If you haven't already heard of it, I implore you to check out Epic The Musical by Jorge Rivera-Herrans. From the musical artistry, storytelling, vocal performances, and acting, Jorge Rivera-Herrans has it all. It is truly one of the best pieces of art that I have ever experienced. The emotions that it invokes are truly something that needs to be experienced. The Underworld Saga just dropped today, so check it out!

Having listened through The Underworld Saga I have to say it's up there with one of my favourites
The first song Underworld is properly thematic and eerie
No Longer You is sorrowful and haunting. I really appreciated the mournful quality Mason was able to portray for Tiresias.
Monster is an interesting emotional piece. I do have more thoughts but I don't know how to articulate them
I really enjoyed the songs
Btw I usually listen to the new songs then the entirety of released songs in order to see how they fit together
Two things I realised doing that
1. I was right. I like the Circe Saga much better when it's sandwiched on both sides by the other Sagas. It's place in the story makes listening to the songs on their own more discordant.
That's because I feel it's the saga with the most transitional songs which just works better with the other Sagas around it.
Its not that I ever hated it but it felt like it was a part of the musical that would grow on me in time which proved to be the case
Related to that-
2. The way Jay uses certain instruments and sounds and vocal call backs is really effective in the storytelling. Listening to any saga on its own is enjoyable. The songs are good, but when you listen to the whole thing you can really appreciate how each song fits in the story and how it enhances the emotions of the moment
I also think it's very sweet that Odysseus' mum was played by Jay's mom.
I just really like this musical. It's really well thought out and while I have favourite songs and favourite Sagas I am really enjoying every update

OG!Shang Qinghua probably purposely weaponised his sleazy charm and "sexy twink who leaves your hookup with all your valuables but you still fuck him again" charm and that's very correct and sexy of him
He definitely fucked around on sect and with others
Airplane!Shang Qinghua deploys that charm by accident and with no awareness
People expect to wake up in an inn well fucked and penniless when they have a drink with him and are surprised when he just finishes his drink and leaves because he has more paperwork to do
Like with his sect peers, he's a loser and a coward because he's cultivated that image
With merchants and demons?
Cocktease
The difference:
- Airplane!Shang Qinghua is attractive and sexy at times but is incapable of being aware of it
- OG!Shang Qinghua is attractive and sexy at times and is very aware of it

I think the problem is how I imagine her not just leaving is not the same as you do so we're talking at cross purposes
I would try to explain better but my brain is full of eels today
Either way I hope your day is good :)
I've been rewatching Avatar: The Last Airbender because why not and I'm losing my mind at Zuko's proper introduction. I don't know if it's hindsight, shifting characterizations, or just me not watching this in a long time, but this was amazing.
We start off showing he's an impatient and very angry kid. Reasonable, and the sort of flaw we might expect to see in a villain. Kinda funny that he expects to go up against an adult and fully 4-Element realized Avatar, but the kid is desperate and Iroh clearly expects his nephew to get the banishment-denial kicked out of him.
What's important here, though, is Zuko's introduction to the Southern Water Tribe.
Tumblr media
Here, we have a very intimidating entrance where his entire ship just sails through the ice right up to the village's front door. It's quite ominous and this is our first proper introduction to how the Fire Nation interacts with a foreign people.
Sokka charges, I'm assuming fully prepared to die, and Zuko casually knocks him out of the way. Okay, so clearly the Water Tribe are entirely outgunned.
He asks "Where are you hiding him?" and the people of the Water Tribe go silent. I assume they're either just too scared to talk or actually protecting Aang.
Whatever the case, it's important to note that the Southern Water Tribe know the terror the Fire Nation can inflict. We have a whole episode dedicated to tracking down a division of raiders. Sokka was able to not only identify the ash-mixed snow as signs of an incoming attack, but estimate how many ships the amount of ash measures to. These are a people who have experience being terrorized and are probably expecting something terrible to happen.
And then, after they don't answer, Zuko grabs Gran-Gran. There was a horror sting to it, and everything the tribe knows about the Fire Nation suggests that Zuko is about to threaten or straight up hurt her to get answers. Classic "terrorize the elderly" bad guy stuff.
Tumblr media
And then...
He goes "He's (the Avatar) be about this age and is a master of all four elements!?" and lets her go.
And all of a sudden, the tension that was built up is shattered as Zuko went "I know, I'll give them a reference for the person I'm looking for because clearly they're confused and I wasn't specific enough."
This went from a show of villainy to a show of Zuko being totally socially awkward and misreading the situation entirely. Not helping is that when he does try to menace them a moment later, his fire is slow and angled quite safely.
It still worked on the Water Tribe because they're understandably scared, but all I could think of is that this was the equivalent of a playground bully trying to make someone flinch with that fake-out lunge thing.
Because the fact-and something we'll come to learn-is that Zuko is TERRIBLE at being a Fire Nation oppressor. He's capable of doing morally dubious things and is a competent fighter. But he's lousy at terrorizing people and cruelty-that's kind of the point of his banishment.
And while we can see the story paint this picture of Zuko's true character as the story goes on with hints of good and conflicting loyalties, here we get to see just how bad he is at being "the bad guys".

Ok I don't think Azula is inherently a worse person then Zuko I think she's a better strategist
I'm not a good enough strategist to know how exactly she'd do things but she wouldn't leave the very small population in that specific village, that the Avatar had already proved would obey her for their sake, just walk free.
At the very least, she would take hostages and she definitely would have swung back around to bring the Avatar back after he escapes
Azula would never just bash in, be bad at menacing, and peace out like Zuko did
Azula wouldn't leave a resource untapped because she's smarter than Zuko
I'm not dunking on her. She's just extremely competent, which is why she's the scariest antagonist. I love her

I didn't say Azula would have slaughtered them I said she wouldn't have just left. Because you forget there is value in that village
The Avatar cares about what happens to them
Aang offered himself if the village is left alone which makes them an invaluable resource
Zhao would murder them because he's a vicious bully
Azula would see a way to keep the Avatar under her thumb
No Azula wouldn't murder them indiscriminately
But she also wouldn't have just left them alone either because the strategic thing to do would be to keep them under her control and under a constant immediate threat

Plz imagine the absolute STATE mbj would be in if sqh ever fully unlocked his author god powers. Like Bingge comes back and tries to attack mbj and sqh gets between them before even bingmei can move, and sqh is *furious* that his son (from the original timeline) would go after his king. Sqh basically orders bingge to kneel and drop xin mo, and to literally everyones shock (including bingges lol) he *does*. Like,,, it cuts over to mbj, so turned on and in shock that hes frozen his feet to the ground and hes blushing *so* hard lmao. (sqh deserves to have absolute authority in the world he created and mbj deserves to be very horny about this development is what I'm saying)
Oh that would be AMAZING
Shang Qinghua would go full on God Mode and Mobei Jun would be naked faster then you could say "wtf"
But the thing is, and I hate to admit this....but Bing-ge would be into it too
Someone more powerful then him stepping up to him?
Someone who will inevitably in the confrontation demand that Bing-ge call him "Daddy" and awaken something deep in Bing-ge?
Dude will be gone for God Shang Qinghua who has just given him even more psychosexual issues then he already had
Meanwhile Mobei is just so horny he's vaguely worried it's going to damage things

I鈥檓 so emotional about dinosaur stuffed animals,,, there are these creatures, extinct long before any of us were alive, but we found their bones and their eggs and their footprints. And we made drawings and models of what they could鈥檝e looked like. And we made them into stuffed animals so we could hold them. We made them soft so we could love them. I鈥檓 sobbing

Btw I hate to admit it
But our Airplane who is just some fucking guy and is constantly compared to a hamster
In canon he is described by Cucumber as good looking if kinda sleazy
He would look like one of those sexy characters who you know would sell you out for a corn chip but somehow repeatedly talks his way into your bed and into mooching off you
He does work it's incredibly shady but he can also charm his way out of situations and manipulate his way out of ones where charm fails
You get the feeling he's always at least a little amused at you
You can't catch him at anything but you find yourself slightly paranoid in his presence. At first concerned for your wallet and later concern of what he knows
I'm just saying that he has a following on An Ding, every merchant he has ever talked to wants to ruin their life by fucking him, and it's not a wonder that Mobei Jun wants to be taken roughly by him to the point its getting sad
And I 100% think Shang Qinghua doesn't realise he has these vibes
It also doesn't work on the other peak lords because they have seen him in a fight and also on the day the expense report is due
They know him at both his most embarrassing and his most terrifying
(Mobei has too but he doesn't care)
They just don't want to have to expense reports
