btw diavolo and i have matching furbies that are loosely themed after one another so we can hold them when we miss each other. we dress them up for dates and he takes photos of them for his silly little devilgram account where he has a very dedicated following. i have a clear little pocket in my backpack where mine sits so everyone can see it and his has a little baby carrier type thing that he forces barbs to carry around.
mine is named deejay (diavolo junior), his is lilro (lil rowan) or something like that <3
i had a dream luke/wedge was made canon. i mean the 'canon' was them holding hands on screen while ezra found soemone else's hand to hold bc ig the goal was for them to end up together but luke liked wedge a bit more sorry ezra oops. also. keep in mind this was the same dream where i met a guy who called himself 'the muppets version of robin williams'
on today’s thalialuke thoughts, the reason why thalia is able to cut off luke so quickly whereas annabeth isn’t is because it makes sense for thalia that luke got there. thalia knew luke better than annabeth ever did, she knew how much she hated his parents and how much resentment he held against the gods. and above all, she knew how he had started to act since his visit to may castellan’s and his talk with hermes. annabeth does not (says thalia) bc she was 7 and understood up to the point of “luke’s parents make him upset”. so thalia has seen luke already pushing it and making bad choices and then she dies and then she wakes up again and she’s immediately told that he’s gone, that he’s made an awful choice and she mourns him and it breaks her heart but it checks out. thalia can see how he got there and she knows how strongly he hates his dad and the gods and it still hurts her to go against him but if anything, going against him and seeing him fully as kronos’ little pawn, it solidifies her understanding that there’s no bringing him back, luke is gone. she won’t go soft on him because she knows that his choices go way beyond what they had, the family they had. thalia understands there is no bringing him back while annabeth hopes she still can somehow.
tldr; thalia understood luke’s motives better than annabeth, hence why she is way more tough on her approach to luke.
What if when Luke first got to camp, there was another, older son of Hermes who was the cabin head? Let's just say that his name was Alex.
Alex helped Luke in very much the same ways that Luke helped Percy when he first arrived at camp. Alex made sure that he had plenty of toiletries, shared the snacks that he would sneak from outside with Luke. He was there for Luke while he was trying to cope with Thalia's "death".
Alex took Luke under his wing. Taught him how to fight. He taught Luke almost everything he knew about sword fighting. They would spar everyday.
Alex was the big brother he had never had. Alex was so nice, kind and caring. Always ready to lend a listening ear and kind heart when needed. Sure, he was still mischievous and definitely a son of Hermes ( the pranks that he would put together were legendary and talked about for years later) but, he was still always there for anyone in camp. He was there for Luke.
Then, about a couple years after Luke had arrived at camp, Alex was sent out on a quest. A quest from Hermes himself.
Luke helped him pack, the whole time asking if he really had to go. Asking why he would do anything for their father and why how he could even trust the gods Asking why he couldn't just turn down the quest.
Alex just looked at him and smiled, "sometimes, you just have to take risks and trust people. For better or worse, I'm choosing to trust father. I'm sure he'll watch out for me. Besides, as long as I've got my sword? Those monsters don't stand a chance." He pulled Luke into a hug. Luke could feel him shaking slightly before he let go. "Take care of the others while I'm gone, alright?"
Luke nodded, "don't worry, you can count on me."
Alex just smiled, "good. Well, I'm off. I'll be back soon!"
Luke would find out a few days later that Alex had unintentionally lied. That he wouldn't be seeing him soon and, that his choice to trust their father is what had lead to his death.
The day that Luke found out about Alex's death, he vowed to never make the choice to trust his father like Alex did. He vowed to make all of this stop. So that no one would have to lose their big brother to monsters and vicious gods again. 🥲🥲💔
i don’t know if you want to bring this up again so feel no need to publish this ask, but claiming show canon automatically overrides book canon is also giving a credit to riordan which he did not work to deserve. there are countless authors who include a diverse cast of characters from the start and get no acknowledgement. he never made that effort in his first series and people shouldn’t pretend he did. though, i am very happy that he has chosen to do things differently in the live action!
Thanks for your consideration!
Regardless: I agree fully with this. It's something I was also considering but didn't point out as that wasn't my focus. It gives credit that is not owed, it gives him more diversity than he actually included in the original books. There was ONE notably black character in the first series, One. The second series included One (notable) black girl (who was strongly connected to slavery and also killed off and brought back and also put in a relationship with an older guy and and and-). He does not deserve credit for things he didn't do.
I'm glad he's trying to improve, despite my issues with him, but Book Annabeth is NOT overridden by show Annabeth. Any claims to such ignore his intentions in the original writing, for good or bad.
The Show Annabeth is black, and Leah is going to do amazing I'm certain, she deserves love and support. But her being Show Annabeth does not mean she's Book Annabeth. That's an objective fact, not a dismissal of her. They're two different Annabeths.
Both are wonderful, and I look forward to seeing Annabeth on the screen just like I've loved having Annabeth come to live via the books.
ngl you really don’t notice how pervasive the shipping brain-rot in fandom is until you’re scrolling thru a tag for a media in which you don’t “ship” anything
I am like 20 minutes into Purple Hearts and I am trying to understand so hard how what anything that Luke or his friend say is like, normal and not like, idk, bigotry?
