Floyd - i don't know. uhhh. in his lab coat(?) vignette there's this moment where a guy bumps into him, is like 'hEY WHO DO YOU--' and then realizes its floyd and backs off. basically the guy who intimidates them to make them weaker, ig? terrorizing them. 'binding the heart' in fear. i mean he'll still hurt them ofc, but the point is is that he's the scary one, jade's the 'calm' one, thats his image to people. i dont know him nearly well enough to really get it.

Kalim - wishing for everyone to be happy. to dance and sing and forget about all the troubles. throwing parties and feasts to cheer them up (and granting them relief when needed). although it doesn't always end well and his attempts can end up 'useless', like how oasis maker is 'useless' when people already have easy access to water. but at other points desperately needed.

Jamil - turning him into the 'master' and the other the 'servant'

Vil - planting 'curses' in plain sight. masking it. disguising it. acting. like putting on makeup to change something. maybe. possibly. (this is weak) maybe a false reassurance. a mask.

Epel - accepting who he is (that he's short and seen as 'cute'. and so using it to his advantage.) like, seeming 'soft and dainty' but actually a guy who can beat someone up. like, 'you'll just go to sleep..' very bad at comforting someone when theyre crying and i think this would still be an issue with you even if youre her kid/adoptive kid.. younger sibling... something.. tries the basic stuff you do to calm a crying kid down; funny faces, candy, toys, ect ect. over time she does get better at identifying what you need in scenarios where things are upsetting you. speaks for you a lot of the time when there can be a possible conflict, kind of shields you from things that could hurt you out of fear that something is going to hit too hard. long run its not ideal, but similar to caine, it works in the moment, you know?

RAGATHA:

very sweet and patient with you, hardly ever raises her voice at people and she will never raise her voice around you. gently urges you to try to speak for yourself and stand up for yourself when someone is being a little mean (though, to be fair, i cant see any of the current cast being intentionally mean.. we'll get to jax in a minute hush). very encouraging, too. kind of a mix between letting you be sensitive, but also urging you to try to get a little tougher, you know? never makes you do things youre not comfortable with doing, though. lets you hang out in her room if youre getting too overwhelmed with something, lets you play with and mess with some of her sewing stuff (supervised! needles are sharp!)

JAX:

teases you but is gentler with you, though with how sensitive you are sometimes even softening himself isnt enough. while the others try to shield and protect you from the world around you, hes likely going to try to push you to be more... bold, tough, you know. not sensitive. i feel that he might be too pushy with you and may thrust you into the deep end before youre ready for it, so either youre going to need to speak up, or someone else will... generally not ideal since hes more of a big brother figure that kind of messes with his younger siblings rather than a parent.... shrugs.. does stand up for you the second someone else makes you cry, regardless of if they do it intentionally or not

KINGER:

the dad. the father, the papa. the grandfather, even. maybe its because i hc that he already has kids out in the real world and he instinctively knows what to do with you... but i think he would be really good with you developing a thicker skin. does not shame you for who you are, though. actually i feel like he would also remind you that being sensitive isnt a big deal and it doesnt exactly make you weak compared to others. it just means you have big emotions, all the better to connect with people, you know? good dad. probably plays catch with you... those talks kids and dads have when theyre fishing that carries a life lesson... or maybe admin was introduced to really specific scenarios growing up... shrugs

cross between jax and pomni i think. zooble is bad at comforting people, but i do think they would push for you to grow a spine and snap back at someone when theyre messing with you. though unlike jax they dont immediately throw you into it, rather i think they would have one on one time with you where you guys just talk about the stuff... still stands up for you, though they tend to give you a minute to speak for yourself during situations to say youre not okay with whats being done to you. probably teaches you little comebacks and insults to say to people when theyre being assholes

GANGLE:

honestly? she can relate. i can see this going two ways... perhaps being both at the same time...? shrugs.. she can relate to you because shes also sensitive, and it leads to you guys having this sweet sibling connection where you guys dont feel so bad for crying so easily. or it inspires gangle to try to be tougher, for your sake, so you have someone to lean on during tougher days. i think both are nice, in my opinion. similar to ragatha she lets you hang out in her room, drawing.. you both use art to express yourselves when wording things get too hard

other than that I think he’s funny, and I actually really enjoy his stage presence, its how he caught my attention in the beginning. some notes of vamplore from me and my brain thats basically canonical for all my vamps before i forget it all later

younger vampires (like my recent unnamed sim) look not as human as older vamps- they cant retract their fangs, eyes r almost constantly glowing, ears Very obviously pointed. they also dont have a separate feeding or "dark" form

initial skintone change depends on how long they've been dead for, its not so much if u get pale or not but you would get grayer as a vampire for however long u spent actually dead before being reanimated. lilith and caleb were dead for a while before coming back which i why theyre visibly so stone-like in their dark forms while unnamed was dead for less than n hour theyre fine

as time passes and they mature they can learn to separate their more human form from their dark form. ofc its never gonna be perfect (like with caleb and lilith theres still a glint of red in their irises, slightly pointed ears) but once u hit the hundreds of years of life ur basically indistinguishable from a normal human- all the monstrous traits are regulated to dark from transformation

eye colours for my vamps r almost always red but artificial undead creatures like nervous for example can have different ones (like his in his dark form if you downloaded him are neon green to match the plumbob universal juice that was implied to have been injected into him while he was being experimented on)

however once u hit around 900+ years of life u start to uh. for lack of a better term calcify? i guess? stiffness begins to build up skin cracks and warps a vamp beginning this process will begin to experience heightened aggression and will need to feed much more frequently. the process can be staved off by consuming blood but unless ur drinking blood like 24/7 without rest or running out of it eventually u lose ur senses and just. turn to stone. i will say tho most vampires have not lived that long to even experience that

vampires arent a natural species theyre specifically a transmissible curse created by a faction of magic users to use against another faction long ago in an ancient war. it varies depending on uh what world im looking at but for the most part its only effective on people with the latent potential to be a magic user, whether realised or not. people without that spark just die normally

Mmmmmm post sleep Tennocon Rambles under the cut

Ofc because I just started vet school last week (yay) I couldn’t attend in person. Really sad I couldn’t attend because I’ve always loved it when I went to the 2017 and 2018 events. Had to watch the stream, but it look like from pictures everyone had tons of fun and I’m glad it was a success. Next year, please let it be closer to the middle of the summer akdjejak

Art panel, the highlight for me as always as an artist myself. Really cool to see all the concept works from way back in Dark Sector. I’m so sad the art book was so expensive and sold out so fast, but I hope this means they can be inspired to do a reprint in the future (maybe when food expenses arent draining my bank like a whirlpool….) The new upcoming concepts I can’t say I’m a fan of all too much. Grendel is my most hated frame but the boar is a cool inpiration for him. I personally think the game is very oversaturated with Liger concepts, so as per most Liger deluxes Sevagoth wasn’t my cup of tea. They designed the frame, why not have someone else take a shot as his deluxe? I didn’t catch who designed Yareli’s bu that one was interesting.

And….. the Heirloom skins collection. They’re pretty. I though Mag’s was for Nova and got too excited for a bit. And as a Frost main I’m always glad for more content containing him, hell I squint at his skin because it has a few elements that are strikingly similar to my Deluxe concept for him back in 2021. But. The price. I want to buy it, but this entire collection pitch is exactly what Digital Extremes has vow to not do in all 10 years with their fair free to play model, and this sets a very bad precedent if it were to continue. $90 USD is too high of a price for a pack of skins marketed as being in celebration of 10 years, inflated artificially with the Regal Aya. A pack of 6 (with an extra bonus, making 7 total and 400 platinum) is $40 which means everything in the second tier pack is only $30. The same price as the low tier. The only new thing the skins intoduce are the Signas, which are cool, but I gesture to Kaithe coronets. The skins have no new visual effects for abilities, no new animations, not even new idles like recent Deluxe skins have. Rebecca used the word “prestigious” for describing the pack. And I beg her to NEVER use that word again for cosmetics. Prestigious content is a very slippery slope. Take the Prestige skins from League. Because of those skins Riot is now thinking they can make a variant recolor of a very old Jhin legendary and mark the price up to $200. Warframe doesn’t need that. Not to mention the FOMO. The Heirloom pack is gone at the end of the year. Even past Prime Access comes back in Resurgence after a few years. Nightwave brings back old items from past story events. The only thing that has never returned was the Founders Packs, for a good reason. The Heirloom collection feels like a rehash of the Founders marketing in the present state of them game where it’s most likely not trying to stay afloat. FOMO has never existed in Warframe, and it shouldn’t be added now.

Don’t even get me started on that 10 year Accolade in the packs. Accolades have usually been for people who made a notable contribution to the game. Founders, Closed Beta testers, Creators. All of them have some sort of impact on the game be it keeping it afloat in the starting year or contributing to the Community. Now a shiny sticker can be added to any account for as low as $30. I’ve been playing the game for 8 years. I’m not a ‘10 year supporter’ yet. The wording itself insinuates that to supoort the game for a decade, you need to pay. That Accolade should have been something added automatically when your account turns 10 years old.

Overall I’m extremely disappointed bu the Heirloom marketing as it stands. Will I buy it down the road? Chances are high when I’m not bleeding for food with school going on, which is at the very end of the year right before it goes away cause I also give into FOMO. DE has adjusted their strategies before, and I hope they do so now. But this has already set a bad first impressions for any future Heirloom content.

Anyway, rant over on that. Sound panel was cool. Always cool to hear how specific sounds are made like Kullervo. The Heirloom debacle kinda soured my mood for a bit, so I focused more on studying my classes and then went shopping with my roommates.

Came back a little late to TennoLive, probably halfways thru the Soulframe demo. From what I saw I really like the whole concept and thematic. The little turtle guy is so cute. Excited to see more of its development and eventually play it.

The Warframe aspect I had more range of feelings. Whispers in the Wall looks really cool and I’m excited for exploring what the fuck Albrecht is doing. I love how its expanding Deimos more, instead of adding another island and button to navigation. It feels like it’ll require the New War to access, since its all based around the aesthetic of the Man in the Wall seen at the very end of the quest. I’m very interest in the human Loid (best design from Liger since Nezha Empyrean imo). I hope he gives more insight into the attitudes of the Orokin since he is 99% likely from before the Old War.

And… Warframe 1999. I got sucked into Warframe because of it’s unique spin on fantasy sci-fi. And throughout the 8 years I’ve played it’s stuck to its aethetic formula to a T. Seeing CRT monitors and Nokias along with Entrati designs, the modern sci-fi elements and callbacks to Dark Sector makes it feel out of place. Blasphemous almost. But, I’ve had this feeling before with Duviri. I had reservations as to whether Duviri would break the Warframe Universe as we knew it. But DE made the Paradox make sense, and the aethetic language of the world fits perfectly into the formula. I absolutely love Duviri. I need to see more and play 1999 in order to feel how it connects to the Origin System and Duviri as a whole, be it the very distant past (and being born in 99 myself makes me…. Haaaaa) or a parallel universe connected by Void Fuckery(tm). But seeing how Duviri played out I have no real doubts DE won’t pull it off again.

I need to get my art out there, not that its the greatest, as you can see, especially compared to the other ask blog creators out there, but i also want to have fun with this so im starting a Creepypasta ask/art blog myself, and im starting off with simple basic information that can lead to questions and such. Please note these are my hcs and opinions, so I'd appreciate if everyone would respect that. Thank you!

Okay, starting off with a quick note, this is only a simple artstyle, and it may change, it may not, though im hoping as the blog progresses, my art will improve. Another two things to keep in mind is that I may not always answer a ask with art, and that this blog will have mentioned drug/alcohol addiction, violence(they arent Creepypastas without a little violence here and there), and MAYBE sexual themes, im not too sure about that one. Basically, this blog is not for the faint of heart. Take care and please do not read or look at this blog if any of it may possibly trigger you!

-His birthday is April 23 1990, and he died the same day in 2002 at the age of 12. He didn't age as he was trapped in his game cartridge, but he finally managed to escape by the time his next birthday rolled around, and he is now a aging spirit ever since then

-See the wings? I also came up with the idea that he was supposed to be an angel, its a wonky hc and probably not one a lot of people will be used to, but I like the idea. Ofc, he never became an angel, instead being kept on the surface world by Slendermans powers, but he still has the wings

-Water will burn his skin, even if its ice cold water

-His closest friends are Jeff, Toby, and Liu, Jeff being perhaps his best friend as in my au/hcs they've known each other in both the past before any incidents and after, therefore having known each other for about 8 or 9 years. They may or may not have a 'bromance' in this blog(aka yes they do) so if you dont like that, I'll ask nicely again, please step away from this blog.

-He is perhaps one of the strongest pastas due to his magical properties and abilities

-He is also a proxy, and in my au/hcs, only the most skilled of the Pastas are chosen to be put in training to become a Proxy. The only proxies as of the beginning of this blog are Maaky, Hoodie(I know their from Marble Hornets, and I have watched it, but Im one of those folks who like the crossover:), BEN, Toby, and Jeff

They are in groups most times. like lizards you have a rep for them starts at 0 (for most..."people" they dont really like. cancer.) for others, they start higher as they since your a kid. And for one character they will send hitmen out to you. Each one have randomly generated looks and traits. They are. NOT. dumb. as they can do what you do. throw your weapons and items back at you

i have to say I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the atmosphere & layouts of the merchant & treasure rooms!!!! Genuinely so much beautiful & gorgeous detail put into it, i love all the patterns & markings covering the walls/room in general!! &nd the lighting they used makes it look even more prettier than if it had none!! if i could come back as a rw creature these guys are high up on that list.. currently… i would heavily enjoy having large all-knowing eyes that simultaneously have nothing going on inside, and horns on my head and trade & paw at dirt all day long but… i will consider my options & we will see as we go on…. !!!

Name: Riven Liam Arthur

Looks: Aesthetics only gym bro (so he strong but not stronger than Helia for example) . His skin is rosy with a slight tan, and his eyes are narrow and indigo-colored. He has short red-violet hair that is spiked back with only two bangs framing his face.

Relationships: Soulmate is Musa (after a shit ton of work to deserve her ofc) he is the closest to Nabu, has a rivalry with Sky

Personality: He is very insecure on the inside coz he thinks he needs to be better than everyone or else he is nothing. he is also thin-skinned and sensitive to what people thought about him. As a result, he is easily affected when people laughs at or humiliates him. Riven's insecurities caused him to doubt the authenticity of those around him and question who his true friends were.

But on the outside, Egotistic. Riven is the impulsive, competitive, realistic and goal-oriented member of the Specialists. He can be rather hot-headed, experiencing moments of envy and blind aggression; but he is also protective and caring (mostly towards musa or his parents but only when they arent looking). This compassion is not solely limited to his love interests, as he was extremely unwilling to leave Griffin and her students behind while they were imprisoned in their school's dungeon during the Trix's ongoing invasion. Riven has trouble expressing his emotions in a suitable manner, even when he is not putting up a cold front. He is a bit of a lone wolf. arrogant and mean-spirited, which often puts him at odds with everyone.

Despite his initially unfriendly attitude, Riven is shown to have a conscience early on, though it is often overshadowed by his many shortcomings. He can also be reflective when not blinded by his anger. Riven expresses that there are many things he dislikes about himself, but denies the notion that he is a monster, claiming that even he "has a heart". He goes on to prove this statement through his gradual development as a character. Riven displays an even more vulnerable side when he went off to mourn and cry for Nabu when he died.

As time goes on, he still struggles to express his emotions, he is noticeably friendlier and more cooperative. he becomes more compassionate and relaxed, no longer taking his friends' jokes too seriously (even making some himself). He smiles a lot more and doesn’t mind engaging in some goofy behavior. In spite of this, Riven remains a straightforward and blunt person. He is very realistic and vocal. he listens to Timmy when he says he can still sense Tecna's magical vibe (indicating she is alive) and quietly comforts him.

History: his family are all uber successful and he is praised for his intensity at home coz he and his brothers r all rlly competitive. He was pretty privileged as a child so he never knew any hard times, and thus he sees “struggling” as a weakness that people need to overpower. His parents spoiled him for sure. After season 3 Musa breaks up with him after the events of the movie since he was so easily used as a spy again. He acts like it doesn't bother him and dates around but he actually really misses her. In season 4 they get back together in the middle after Riven proves that he has changed/is trying to change for the better.

Weapon: a scimitar-styled purple phantoblade and a bolas, sometimes he also uses a dagger boomerang. He is also very good at dragon wrangling and is a very skilled thief and lock picker. all his wepons are purple in colour, like the gem on his uniform

I just watched a Steve Harrington edit and now my brain is fucking racing

In this edit, it was more focused on Steve from s1 and s2 and how his character has developed since then. But the part that stood out to me the most was when Tommy H called out to Steve after their fight, "That's right, Harrington. Run away just like you always do!" Then it was cut to Steve running to his car after seeing the Demogorgon in the Byers house where Nancy and Jonathan were abt to fight it. And ofc as they say, the rest is history.

So watching this, I was reminded of how this was also a part of Eddie's schtick/"arc" for s4: running away and staying.

It threw me off how contrasting this was compared to Steve's arc of running away and staying. I mean the comparison is overlapping where a guy who has this front to others is now completely shattered by a string of events that put into question their own sense of self, thus they ran away so when put on the lines to do something - to help/protect someone - they made a decision to stay. Ofc the biggest contrast is that one lived and the other died.

Idk where I'm going with this tbh but I can't help thinking several strings of thoughts:

1) why did it have to be death as a final option for Eddie's decision? Like yes, protect Dustin as best he can (which he did!) but running away for Eddie doesn't make him any less worthy of a person! Like compared to Steve (who was at the time running away from facing his feelings/problems head-on), it's reasonable for Eddie to run after Chrissy died or to run once grabbing the demobats' attention. It just...didn't have to end that way for him.

2) is Eddie's ending somewhat of a play on Steve's arc? I mean jokes aside, Steve and Eddie are Dustin's role models who on the surface appear like total opposites and yet...

3) if Steve got to spend more time with Eddie, if EDDIE DIDNT STEER THE CONVO TOWARDS NANCY IN THE UPSIDE DOWN WOODS, then maybe -just maybe- Steve would've opened up about his experience abt running away - "Give yourself a break, man." Then they'd be level - they'd understand each other. Maybe, just maybe, as Steve walks up the steps into the Creel house, a sense of foreboding sinks into his skin as he turns to see the cloud of demobats follow the song and he has to make a choice. To stay to protect Nancy or run to Dustin and Eddie. To run or to stay.

I mean, you could take this as a Steddie post if you want but can you imagine the dynamic that could've shifted if Steve ran to Eddie (and Dustin)? Like Steve leaving (and maybe Nancy nodding to him, resolutely) is symbolic of his recent arc: his relationship with Nancy bc let's face it, he's been dragging that with him ever since s2. He needs to drop that weight (and by extension, so should Nancy). (Also I can't rmr but was Steve absolutely necessary to be w/ Nancy and Robin to smoke Vecna?)

Then Steve coming back for Eddie could be the wonky ass message of whatever this show is trying to go for (I won't actually try to think they are bc let's face it- they arent but I need meaning) which is: you are not alone. Steve has been where Eddie was before and he knows if possible, self-sacrifice for those kids would the most obvious choice because they are fucking worth it. And he knows how much Eddie means to Dustin and he wants to at least do this for him (and also maybe because he's starting to like this so-called Munson Freak) so when he finally makes it back, he sees Eddie on the bike, finds a secure hiding place and gestures for Eddie to come. They make it out alive and hold out strong. Gasping for breath, sweat across their brows, an exhausted half-assed smile on their faces - "didnt i tell you to make him pay, Harrington?" "not if you weren't around to see it, Munson."

also don't want to start discorse so fine to not answer but- it does also bug me that there is far more top surgery trans art than bottom surgery or other kinds of transition options. same way there's a bunch of stuff about binding but i had to hear about the existence of packers by word of mouth from a transdude friend. (almost like there's a bias away from dicks or genitals in general because people still find those 'gross')

no literally and theres definitely bias away from phalloplasty (which would be something easy to show in visual art the way top surgery is easy to show bc rff phallo takes a skin graft from your forearm which leaves an obvious scar in a place thats not nsfw or at all hard to show but ofc never is), and i also dislike that when top surgery is shown like 99% of the time its two perfectly even flat pink lines that sit just under the pecs when irl scars can be uneven or raised or different colors or in different places or literally anything

and its just interesting in danger days specifically bc most people hc the zones are a really accepting place for trans people but the only types of trans ppl i ever really see are those who are on T and have had top surgery (or want it but havent gotten it yet) with the perfect even scars, transfems who may or may not be on E, and non-binary people who are perfectly androgynous so as not to reveal their agab. and like ofc its fine to have characters like that but it would be nice to see something else

like. i have way too many opinions on this that are definitely gonna get discourse-y and i dont need to write a whole essay but basically it would just me nice to see disabled characters whos disabilities arent just waved away by giving them the right kind of aid and trans characters with a variety of experiences in regards to medical transition, especially in a world where those things are way harder to access than irl

For the abo finishing school: what if Nico and Kevin meet during a class and just instantly know that they are mates, but because they both have the emotional maturity of a peanut, it all goes to shit. Maybe Kevin gets uncomfortable with his compatibility with Nico and rejects him rather harshly, hurting Nicos feelings and making him lash out in turn. Thus creating a form of rivalry/competition between them where they will: make fun of and tease the other (eg Nico stealing Kevin's things and holding it above his head to get his attention), or ignoring the other (Kevin acting like he doesn't see the Omega flirting with Nico, but just accidentally spilling juice on them).

This also means that they can't pick each other for mixed classes, but turn everything into a competition. Creating a really sexual and aggressive atmosphere even in innocent domestic classes like cooking, because they can't keep their eyes of each other, and also trying to one up the other and make suggestive poses with the other participants. No one wants to partner up with them anymore.

Their first meeting being civil enough, until they bump into each other/shake hands/any other way in which their skin touches and they just KNOW what they are supposed to be. But its scary cos both came to this school cos they are honestly clueless about mating and lowkey scared about settling down, mating, and having pups.

I just absolutely wheezed at "emotional maturity of a peanut" cos i think thats the best description of these two ever sksfdsfsdfsfsdf. Kevin rejecting Nico and nico just being so hurt and lashing out and the rivalry starts there, both wanting to show they are better off without the other and too good for them too!

Nico just holding Kevin's backpack above his head until Kevin growls and punches Nico in the balls, Kevin spilling his orange juice over Omega Max who was innocently talking to Nico and just creating an uncomfortable environment for some other students.

And its sad cos it ends up with both of them not having many friends, so Nico cant really joing casual playfights and Kevin has no friends to nest with, and ofc they arent finding anyone else to court either. The Omegas finding Kevin crying his little heart out at some point cos his heart is just aching, having no pack, having lost his chance at an Alpha, and being so far from home... And Nico just gets really quiet and flinches when Daniel tries to get him to join the playfighting and both are just going through it(tm)

Maybe they have another kneeling class and everyone pairs up quicker than ever because they are all in on the plan, leaving just kevin and Nico who are too tired too bicker and desperate enough for any type of contact that they dont turn each other away either. and kevin just starts crying when he kneels between Nico's legs and rests his head on Nico's thigh while Nico strokes his hair cos this is all he ever wanted! And Nico just slips off his chair to hug Kevin and apologise and Toto should tell them to sit up and practise more but he can see they need this as well! And pllls Kevin being pulled into a nest that evening by the other omegas, and the alphas getting Nico to join their playfights again!

FUNFACT

while i was doing research for some LOREEEEEE when i found out tranqs dont work for humans , the movies had lied to us , for it to even TRY to work on humans it takes about 5 - 10 minutes to even START to have an effect , there is a VERY thin line between tranqed and full on DEAD bc since tranqs are usually for big animals so to much tranq can kill while to little can do nothing at all so have fun with this info you gained 👍 and use it wisely and make your stories realistic ANDD tranqs are very likely to off someone so if you want to kill of a character you should use a large dose of the tranq drug why? while first of all if you assume the tranq hits the skin and injects the drug , the dose NEEDS to be 100% perfecto and like I said , To much will cause the heart and lungs to stop and too little with do nothing second , if the character / victim as an allergy to ONE of the drugs used to create a tranq then they can very much die no matter the dose third , humans arent built to handle tanqs since tranqs like i said are used for big animals such as , lions , tigers , elephants ect , and since humans have a WAYY less body mass then them , example , normal adult humans weigh about 60 - 80 kg on avarage , lions weigh about 130 - 190 , elephants weigh about 2,700 - 14,000 ect , so if you use even a TINYY bit of elephant tranqs on humans they would die or get on overdose but if you use like a rabbit tranq they wont die but it wont be pleasant and plus people go to med school to learn how to handle these drugs properly they are called anesthesiologist ofc i recommend you do your own research since this isnt all and tranqs are cool hh

old v new

just want to talk about the differences between these two pieces :] casual essay under the cut

first off, in the nine months between making the first one and redoing it i have a) learned how to make space backgrounds in a way that i am very fond of, b) picked up a textured brush, and c) have gained some more understandings of my layer modes

now. i didnt like make a new piece and start over from scratch. i keep a save of the art with layers and a save of the art i can post. i have a whole system, is why my art always have a 1 at the end if youve ever looked at the file names. the only thing i completely changed is the background. got rid of the stars added my space and readded stars and added the moons. and some glow at the bottom.

other than that i color shifted the ship wall theyre leaning against to be more purple than green, and did some heavy blurring and smudging on the lighting and changed the layer modes. i had left the group layer modes on the wrong setting (pass through vs normal) and it dimmed all the work i did so much. because of that i actually had to go back, after i fixed it, to tone down a lot of the lighting i did, especially on the faces. i took my big textured brush (which i also used for the background. deceptively simple to do that actually) and just set it to eraser mode and did a few taps over the spots that needed it. i used the same method on the moon actually, i just made a white circle and duplicated it and erased it with a tap and it ended up like that.

anyway all of that is to say that the little changes really changed the whole, like effect of the piece. before, everything felt really flat and i was disappointed in how the lighting showed up, but i thought there was nothing i could do. the back lighting was a last minute decision and it looked cool but also a bit out of place. it was a great concept but i didnt have all the technical skills and the right eye for what i wanted. i had actually drawn it before and gone no i need to try harder and do better with this actually. i went hard into the anatomy and lighting, but fell the the side on the background.

which is what i went into this time, and what helped give it the effect it has now. they arent as flat with the improved lighting, the background has depth and actually looks like its a night sky, the moons give context for the back light, and its no longer all the some sort of contrast.

in the before they kind of blended into everything else because it was all given the same emphasis in contrast. if you step back and squint the only things that stand out are fjord's lighter green skin and jesters skin. not the worst things to stand out ofc, thats their faces on the most part. but in the after, its their whole bodies (and the moon) that stand out and thats what i want.

one thing i didnt expect to see, when i set them next to each other, was to think that the newer one seemed smaller than the other. they look smaller, when i didnt resize them at all. i didnt touch the line art, except to put it on a multiply layer and to make it a color other than black (almost black green and almost black blue). that, plus the enhanced lighting, and surprisingly the moon in the back also makes the moment sadder and more lonely? which is the exact mood in the actual scene im portraying, where jester and fjord have a talk and jester sheds her happy mask for a moment to share her sadness and loneliness at leaving her mom. in the new piece they are surrounded by darkness, with the only visible features being themselves lit by the moon and the moon itself. in the older piece the sky is lighter and filled with stark stars that negate that effect completely. With all that starkness consolidated into the single white moon, it feels as though the moon is a third figure in the scene that, since it is addressed and centered, makes it so that any notion of any other audience moot. the moon is the only audience for the moment between them and its indifferent (not a stand in for us, because we are not indifferent). Ruidus is there as well, because of what we know about it now. all the forboding and negitive enegery around it, and having placed it above jester, shows that its a serious, if beautiful, moment of her, again, showing sadness and loneliness, non-positive emotions.

anyway all of this is to just say: look at what i did! isnt it neat how i did it. look at the very cool side effect it caused! wow im so proud of that, isnt it so cool.

i also think itd perhaps be a really cool card for jester and molly's oracle deck, im thinking connection and then upside down is loneliness. idk i havent looked at the cards and their meanings and the specific art yet, i just thought id be cool cause of the connection/loneliness theme of jester that kinda first shows its face to us with this moment
