CURSED CHILD

chapter two : the rumour.

summary : clopeh can't enter the henituse museum without finishing his book length prayer for his cale-nim.

★﹒ ( First name ) doesn't know if Clopeh Sekka has things for redheads. But there was a thing that she was sure of, Clopeh is a certified crazy bastard. He was worse than that dragon who commits arson and burns down a whole damn mountain while laughing like a madman. And what's the reason why he did that? Simple, because he was sleep deprived and the elementals won't let him have his peaceful sleep.

The girl deadpanned at the sight in front of her. Clopeh had promised that he would take her out to a museum today. So that's the main reason for the extravagant outfit that the staff of the orphanage prepared for her. But, before they could even enter this damn museum, Clopeh had his hands clasped as he recited a prayer.

Does.... He finally lost his mind? The little redhead crossed her small arms as she looked at Clopeh. Her hands were sweating to the fact that people were looking at them. While her lips unconsciously pouted. Fuck, her child's senses were screaming at her to throw a fit right here, right now to get this bastard's attention.

So, instead of doing that. She tugged the end of the cape of the knight who was escorting them. "Uh... Mister... Is sir Clopeh alright? He's been like that since earlier."

The knight sweatdropped at her question, he awkwardly scratched his cheeks and crouched down at ( first name )'s level. "Little miss, the young master is always like this when uh.. visiting this museum."

"Why?" The little girl innocently asked. "Because he is obse— I mean, he idolizes the firstborn of the family who founded this museum."

( First name ) couldn't help but notice how forced the knight's expression was. He was practically praying to Angela, the God of War, the God of Death and whatever mythical creature that this kid would stop asking him about his liege's weird habits. Yeah, this is considered weird— but just remember that one time when he accidentally entered Clopeh's room and those concerning amount of pictures and drawings of the Young Master Henituse plastered on his liege's room. It was more than enough to traumatise his poor self.

' Maybe I should ask the Duke for a bonus.' he thought.

"Okay." ( First name ) simply said, as the knight's face brightened. "I'm going to look around, Mister! Please tell me when Sir Clopeh came back to reality!"

( First name ) waved her small hand at the knight as she started looking around the museum. Then, a certain painting caught her attention. She noticed how detailed the painting was. And how beautiful the man in the painting is. He was wearing a commander's uniform and had a small smile on his face.

"Pretty." Her reddish brown eyes shone as she looked at the painting. She was caught up in her small words where she was cursing the gods and goddesses for being unfair to her because she wasn't able to get the beauty of this red-haired man in this painting. She wasn't able to hear the murmurs of the people around her.

All of them were flabbergasted because of one thing. They've seen a peculiar sight of a small redhead that looks a lot like their Young master Silver Shield! What? And this kid was looking at Cale Henituse's portrait with those longing expression (when the truth is she was planning the whole event where she will be burning all temples of the God of Death and Angela, the Sun Goddess across the continent) does the young master has an illegitimate child that the people doesn't know of?!

As they started making their gossip inside their little brains. Clopeh's knight had already called for ( first name ) saying that Clopeh was looking for her and they should go to a restaurant nearby instead of staying here. Because Clopeh wasn't able to finish his one book-length prayer and he couldn't enter the Henituse Museum without finishing it.

"Okay." ( First name ) stoically said as she walked away from the painting. Not even aware that a certain orange-haired butler had seen her and now he was speechless and couldn't move from his spot.

Hans, that butler has his jaw dropped as he remembers the little girl that he saw earlier. Those lazy reddish brown eyes that can look down at you like you were some kind of dirty insect were very similar to his liege! That crimson hair! And those mannerisms!

Hans swallowed hard as he started hesitating whether he should tell it to Cale or the Duke himself. But then, decided that the Duke had the right to know about the existence of his granddaughter.

Later that day, those rumours about Cale having an illegitimate child that he kept from the public's eyes had already spread to the Roan Kingdom and the other neighbouring kingdoms. Those rumours kept on getting more and more ridiculous.

And Cale Henituse, the person on the rumour was now laying inside his room on the Henituse estate while sleeping. Ah, slacker life, how sweet it is. He can sleep 15 hours straight now and can laze around after all of those shits that he got involved with. His lips then curved into a sweet smile as he opened his eyes. Only to find two pairs of cat eyes and a pair of dragon's blue eyes staring at him.

"What the fuc—"

Cale almost falls from his bed after seeing his children, On, Hong, and Raon staring at him. He was about to ask what was wrong when he noticed that everyone, by everyone I mean the Molans, Choi Han, Lock, Rosalyn, Mary, and Eruhabe was staring at him with those eerie smiles.

"What?!"

"Unlucky bastard, tsk, tsk." Eruhaben shook his head making Cale more confused. "Cale-nim." This time it was Choi Han who was looking at Cale with a hint of betrayal in his eyes.

What the heck is going on?

This time, Rosalyn chuckled as she spoke in amusement. "Have you heard the news, Young master Cale? The crown prince had fainted."

"What? Why?"

"Because he heard that his younger sworn brother has a secret child that looks a lot like him." Cale deadpanned, is that so? But then he realized something causing his eyes to widen. He is Alberu's only sworn brother! "Huh? What the fuck?!"

"So, be honest to us young master-nim." Ron spoke with his benign smile. "Young master-nim, are you hiding something from us~?"

Vicious people. Cale suddenly wanted to escape this hellish place. What the heck are they talking about?! What secret child?! What happened while he was asleep?!

Then, Hans barged into his room. "Mister Ron! The Duke has fainted!" Fuck it, let him sleep slack in peace!

So.

Why I think Sandrone might be Mary-Ann Guillotin. Spoilers for Fontaine side quests.

Smoke and mirrors

As we have noticed in Liyue, Inazuma and Sumeru (and to an extent in Mondstadt) we do not normally *see* Harbingers until they appear for the final act, only the mechanisms they set in motion.

(Childe is an outlier and it's not like he's done anything productive yet)

Also most of Harbingers' lore so far has been dropped through things in the overworld (Signora's and Scaramouche's stories are in artifact sets, and Dottore's research notes are all over Sumeru). Somehow we have nothing on Arle's and Sandrone's backgrounds so far, which means we likely have something and we just don't know it yet.

Also Arlecchino is all over the plot, so I assume the important Harbinger in this chapter is Sandrone, everything else is an entertaining show to distract us. If she only appears in the final act, it would make sense if her exposition is done through lore tidbits scattered across the map.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit

Now another angle.

I'm almost sure that the contradictory verdict is caused by a certain someone's connection to the Primordial sea. (I'll eat my HoD artifact set if it's not. not like it's a good set but eh)

So whoever framed that certain someone needs to: 1. Know how the Oratrice works (either an engineering genius or they know an engineering genius) 2. Know about the Primordial sea and the Abyss (a gentle reminder that Vaucher knew about its properties through Jakob) 3. Have a motive

Idk, the combination of the first two *screams* Narcissenkreuz to me. I assume the motive is destabilizing Fontaine's energy system. It furthers Harbingers' goals and it would be too lucky a coincidence if it was someone else. So... A Narcissenkreuzer and a Harbinger. Noice.

We have Mary-Ann disappearing during that accident in Elynas without a trace. No body was found. Sus. We know Alain founded the Research Institute and worked on his own projects until death from old age. He could have transfered his consciousness into a robot. Also someone else could have.

(maybe the big robot is Alain then. as they say in Mondstadt, ehe)

Other characters' voicelines

Since Scaramouche's line about her says Sandrone is nowhere near an engineering genius and has produced a "copious amount of garbage", I assume it's not Alain. Mary-Ann it is then. She has her brother's old designs and theories but that's it.

Then there's Childe's voiceline about Sandrone:

When it was added I assumed it was about how clueless Childe can be about the consequences of his actions, but also what if he really didn't do anything (poor boy. everyone is so quick to suspect the worst about him).

We know that Mary-Ann and Alain had a big falling out with Rene and Jakob because of the Abyss research and what they did to Carter. If Sandrone is in fact Mary-Ann, it's possible that whatever Childe is just reminds her of Jakob. Or of Carter. Sorry Childe, your existence is just a trigger for the poor traumatised girl.

Summarising all that: guys, gals, fellow Romans and other forms of life, it's Sandrone. Everything in Fontaine is about Sandrone.

Things this theory doesn't account for unless you squint really hard.

- They don't look much alike but then a lot of years have passed and we have Herta from HSR and the way her appearance shifts slightly with each new puppet.

However, they also don't look that different.

- Why did Lyney need to investigate the Oratrice? If at least one Harbinger knows how it functions then what is left there to investigate? Maybe he was trying to tamper with it, of course. Or maybe they know the Gnosis is in there.

But then the Harbingers aren't exactly known for good communication between coworkers.

- If Mary-Ann is alive, why did she leave her brother behind? Why didn't she go back for Seymour?

I have no good answer for this, so this is likely proof that Sandrone is not Mary-Ann then.

(maybe she doesn't know Seymour is alive and he will recognize her sometime later in the story, of course)

- Who was the familiar voice Lyney heard near the Oratrice? It's not familiar enough to recognise but someone known to him. I doubt he knows Sandrone subordinates or met Sandrone herself. Or maybe he's lying and it's someone he recognises and wants to protect. Or maybe, as Cricket says in their post, that was a distraction too.

- Also there's Rene who happily dissolved into collective consciousness and no one heard of him after that. He could know any kind of things (including how the Oratrice works and what's happening with the primordial seawater) and it's a stretch of course, but any of the Harbingers (Arle included) could be working with him. Anyway, where's Rene?

Do you think maybe you could do a part 2 to ‘We’ll Go Slow’? Maybe the day Klaus takes her home from the hospital and gets her settled and she’s on bed rest or something. I’m interested to know if his family would go along with it?

Maybe some of her recovery and Yandere!Klaus very clearly manipulating her, making her believe her family kicked her out or something and he’s all she has, but she’s all he has and he worships her. Maybe some smut if you want and some talk of that ‘family they wanted’?

Just a lot of Klaus making everything the exact way he always wanted it but thought he could never have it. Manipulative and loving in his own creepy way.

Unconditionally

PT1

Klaus smiled as he jogged on up the stairs with a ‘get well soon’ teddy bear in his hand. He found that y/n loved his little gifts and acknowledgments.

The y/n he had followed for months was a little different to the y/n she remembers being from however many years ago. She was a lot shyer, less experienced in the world and more innocent. It was perfect, like the gods had handed him her in a golden platter.

He slowed as he got to her ajar door. He composed himself and walked in, seeing her sat up with a book in her hands before she saw him and set it aside.

“Nik” she breathed, a smile spreading across her face

“My love, how are you feeling?” He asked while nearing her bed, poor girl couldn’t walk yet, her spine had been damaged causing many issues with balance and such as well as a shit load of pain. Klaus found it better to carry her or wheel her around, plus the doctors recommended it after seeing the agony she went through. Though he still brought her to physio therapy each week because although he wanted her to be reliant, he felt disgusted with himself at the thought of leaving her quite so helpless, she didn’t deserve to miss out on simple opportunities just because of him. He wanted her to be able to walk with him, to be able to twirl her around and see her run after their children. He wanted her to be able to carry their babies and birth them without such high risk of her spine damage.

She was his angel, his prized possession and he wanted life to be easy for her.

“I feel a little better” she was lying, he knew and so did she, he smiled sadly at her before putting the teddy on her lap.

“For you to snuggle at night” he whispered as his hand reached out to grab her hand gently

“Thank you Niklaus…when will I be able to come lay with you?” She asked softly, the doctors said she needed her own space, bed and although the idea annoyed Klaus, he wouldn’t be the source of her pain.

“Soon my lovely, very soon” he whispered

It took a little while longer for her to be able to be up and about, still with Klaus holding her hand every step of the way.

Of course she became tired rather easily but that was okay, he enjoyed being her support system. Especially now he had convinced her he was her only person. That her family had moved away without her leaving her utterly alone.

She was only all the more grateful to him for staying with her despite her forgetting everything of their love.

She felt guilty for loosing so much of their time and for making him wait to have the life he wanted.

It took many breakdowns for her to finally come to the understanding that Klaus was never going to be mad at her, never leave her, ever.

His heart broke for her each time he realised her mental pain as well as her physical. The way she would sob on the floor about how she didn’t mean to ruin his life and she was sorry she wouldn’t let him touch her like that. But he never once pushed her to let him do that. As much as he desired to have her so intimately, she was fragile and traumatised from the accident. She didn’t know remember him and so he wasn’t ever upset with her reluctance.

Even after another few months when she was nervous about it, he was gentle and understanding.

“It’s not expected of you sweetheart, you never have to do anything you don’t want. I love you, unconditionally.” He told her and it was true. He didn’t care if their relationship was only emotional, he was lucky to have her at all.

But he knew that she wanted to give him more and so he helped her get to a point where she was comfortable.

Where talking of them having kids brought joy to her eyes and she would pull up a list of baby names she loved.

Until eventually she was panting beneath him, her hands holding his as he slowly thrust within her, his lips softly pressing to hers as gentle whispers of praise was whispered through the air to her.

And after nearly two years she finally fell pregnant with their child.

Klaus was over the moon and what was even better was that she was too.

She had insisted on getting the nursery ready as fast as possible, she was overly excited and since finding out she was all over Klaus.

He loved her, he always had and he always would.

THE OWL HOUSE SEASON 2 HAS CAPTIVATED ME, so here are my reactions/thoughts to episodes 18 and 19

Episode 18: FINALLY MORE GUS TALK!!!! We get so much information about all the other characters I WAS BEGINNING TO THINK MY GUY GUS WAS BEING NEGLECTED!!

His power is so cool, I need more people to be as excited about illusionist magic as me and Gus are! HE LITERALLY CHANGED THE WHOLE SCHOOL AND TRICKED THE HEAD OF ILLUSIONIST COVEN!

Speaking of, the head of the Illusionist Coven being just some wanna be director is fucking hilarious, he is a snob and I hate him with a passion but I want to laugh at him, so much

Gus literally saving all the students at the school too is being SEVERELY looked over right now, like DUDE HE LITERALLY SAVED ALL OF YOU!!!!

All the guards this episode had me in stiches!!! I WANT MORE GUARDS BEING FUNNY IDIOTS!! ESPECIALLY SEVERINE, god, someone get Severine some therapy, like SLAYYY GO BACK TO THE TINY CAT COVEN! GET SOME SELF ESTEEM BACK!

Obviously, i cannot talk about this episode WITHOUT talking about our boy, Hunter.... who was living in the school stage. Listen, I won't judge the guy, he is homeless, his whole life has been thrown upside down, I feel for the guy it was just a surprise! (/lh) ANYWAY, I LOVED THE GUS AND HUNTER FRIENDSHIP GROWTH! From the sharing of the breathing thing (TWICE!!!) and the comforting each other AMAZING

Amity and Willow learning how to be friends again was also an amazing plot line, I love to see how their friendship will expand

Episode 19: THE WEIRD DREAM THING??? AND KING BEING CONNECTED TO THE COLLECTOR?!? Listen, I still don't fully understand who the collector is BUT THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THEY HAVE APPEARED IN ONE OF THE GANG'S DREAMS! Yeah, I haven't forgot about it being in Eda's dream too! I am very confused, it seems lonely, but evil, but also just a chaotic vibe, I am conflicted

POOR KING! He literally just found out traumatising news and THEN people keep treating him differently now?? I spent the whole start of the episode wanting to just hold King and keep him safe from everyone, HE IS JUST A LITTLE GUY!!! HE IS JUST A BABY!!!

BUT! Steve to save the day. I am now a Steve Stan. I am a Steve fangirl. If Steve has 1 fan, its me, if Steve has 0 fans, I am dead. BRING BACK STEVE!!!! I adore Steve, with every essence of my being, HE WAS ACTING LIKE KING WAS FAMILY AND- AHHH, best friends your honour, they are best friends

FUCKKK The Eda and Raine and Luz angst was a plotline I was NOT ready for after the absolute fluff that was King and Steve helping people and vibing. SOMEONE GET MY PAL RAINE OUT OF THERE!!! Plant coven girl is literally obsessed with them, tf

Eda just wanting to save the kids, to protect Luz and King- I will admit, it hit me in my feels, Eda still treating King as a kid (AS HE SHOULD BE) and Luz and wanting them both away from danger AHHHHHHH

Luz bestie, I love you, but PLEASE EDA WAS RIGHT

HOWEVER HARPY EDA CAMEO!!! RAHHHHHH, I am still obsessed with it, we need more of Harpy Eda in this show.

AND FINALLY, THE ALLIES!!!! GOD. I am obsessed DARIUS I KNEW I COULD TRUST YOU!!! I don't know if I posted, but I REALLY liked Darius but knew (well, thought) he was evil, BUT NO I CAN NOW FINALLY LOVE HIM! AND EBERWOLF! Didn't forget him (did just have to search his name tho)

OH AND! The Palisman!!! I was going to mention this as I hadn't been mentioned in a while, BUT CARING FAMILY BONDING BETWEEN EDA, LUZ AND KING!!! I fucking love found family. Can you tell!!#

IN OTHER EXCITING NEWS! I am about to watch the season 2 finale episodes! No idea what to expect, but I am literally addicted so will take anything, i am sad I am so close to finishing it though, as Season 3 has less episodes

BUT it means I can finally interact with the fandom, etc etc

Fire and Ice reread!

I didnt enjoy this nearly as much as the first book, so 7/10, i give my reasonings in the My Thoughts section. The writing is less clunky in the way its written, but the writing itself is, eh, its not terrible but its not book 1 standard.

On the bright side, i'm loving Windclan and the thunderclan apprentices.

Prolouge

Poor morningflower, having to give birth road-side without her mate

Its been nearly a moon since windclan was driven out, so they were there when rusty joined thunderclan

Chapter 1

They need to grow in their leafbare fur, interesting! Probably never brought up again though

"After many moons as an apprentice" its been 4 moons max, and you spent one of those moons not actually training, how did you even qualify for this

Ah yes, exposition monolouge on what happened the previous book

God i love how respectful whitestorm is

"Only been warriors for a few days" you literally just finished your vigil, dude, its not even been a whole day

Honor is a big thing for the clans

I like the idea of longtail just walking around camp giving the least subtle hints for days on end

My thoughts

Eh, 7/10, a lot of it was just frustrating to read. Im really not a fan of miscommunication tropes or whatever hypocritcal shit was going on between fire and grey. Im also getting really sick of spottedleaf, The cloudkit being brought in scene was bad and weird, and dustpaw's just an asshole.

I liked the mentoring scenes, the apprentices, and yellowfang. I quite like brokenstar and tigerstar, even if their both bastards, and my boy whitestorm is still well written. I like that the queens are good fighters, and how supportive princess is of her brother. We didnt see much of runningwind but im fond of him. They still havent explained why sandstorm warmed up to him so suddenly, but its only book 2

Overall, a bit of a sour one, i definitely prefer the first book, out of the two, and i still think fire and ice should've been the name for the 6th book

Afterthoughts about the main story of Pokémon Scarlet (spoilers obviously):

At various points in the game I felt that things had been half-assed, probably due to time crunch and insufficient staffing, like the lack of fun NPC interactions, poor town planning and shopping options. The plot which culminates in “The Way Home,” however, my word, they whole-assed that. This was my best experience yet in terms of feeling like I got to be in the anime, either the climax of a season or one of the movies, and that was super cool and satisfying.

I know now why I love Arven so much, he’s a blend of the grumpy but caring big brother (eg Piers) and the traumatised character you are there to help heal through your journey together (eg Lillie). I like this SO much better than a rivals plotline where you’re supposed to crush some other kid’s dreams to achieve yours (eg Hau, Hop). They even addressed this with Nemona, the most conventional rival, by having Paldea’s Pokémon League structured differently so that Champion is a rank multiple people can hold at the same time. You don’t have to knock Nemona off her perch to succeed and she’s just absolutely thrilled to have you rise to join her.

Is Penny so sarcastic and unpleasant because she was bullied and it’s made her defensive, or did people take against her because she’s sarcastic and unpleasant? No kid deserves to be bullied but some kids are disliked for a reason. Anyway Penny, you have cool hair and a cosy hoodie but you’re coming off as a bit of a dick, maybe work on that.

Nemona, you are one of nature’s sunbeams and if I shook you I would hear your brain cell rattling around like a bead. I loved it when Koraidon was nervous and she petted its nose.

The dynamic in the crater of everyone wanting to claim me as their BFF was pretty amusing. For the record, Arven is my bestie (we shared a life-changing field trip after all), I like Nemona very much and I am taking care of Penny because Clavell asked me to.

The team-getting-to-know-each-other dialogue text as we moved down through the crater went by a bit too quickly and without pausing to let me press A when I was ready to advance, which was strange.

Also strange was the apparent last-minute attempt to give Nemona some backstory. She’s… posh. Well shit, I’ve seen her house, I could have told you that - and it has no bearing on what she wants or how she behaves at all. Not even “I want to earn my own achievements and not be treated differently based on my family’s status.”

While I thought that the storyline about Arven and his parent (mother in Scarlet, father in Violet) was really good emotional stuff, I was struck by how - well, S/V are interesting with regards to gender. There’s been a deliberate if flawed attempt to make the player character customisation gender-neutral (but in the “unisex means everyone wears boys’ clothes” way rather than providing a skirt version of the uniforms that anyone could wear - at least they didn’t limit the hairstyles) and there are characters who are distinctly unconventional in their gender presentation - Rika with her dapper butch style, Grusha who many people mistook at first sight for a pretty girl, Mr Saguaro in general (although he seems a bit more like the incongruous comedy option). You can also see the two professors option as an effort at balance, but it has the side effect that while both characters are neglectful parents to Arven, a neglectful mother tends to be perceived more harshly than a neglectful father, particularly if she prioritises a high-powered career over her child. I may have missed something but I caught only a glancing reference to who Arven’s other parent might be and Arven makes no reference to feeling let down by that person. Thus, playing Scarlet, I sometimes felt a bit uncomfortable about the impression a child who only played Scarlet and didn’t know about Violet would be getting.

It’s interesting to look at Sada alongside Lusamine. We get a much clearer impression in S/M that Lusamine is narcissistic - that she’s built up this idea of how great she is being so loving and caring to all those rescued Pokémon, and she thinks of her love as this fabulous blessing and gift, rather than something Lillie and Gladion should be able to expect. (I won’t say “take for granted” because children should appreciate their parents’ love and care, but not with a sense of obligation or unworthiness for it.) Sada doesn’t really have the same kind of dialogue getting that point across, although you can infer she’s a similar kind of person. I appreciated the exchange between AI Sada and Arven when she speaks to him apparently from the real Sada’s memories and emotions, and apologises and Arven says that she can’t just say something like that now. It doesn’t really make things better for him and it would take more time and effort than a few loving words, however sincere, to make the necessary difference.

Of course, then she almost immediately peaces out to go back to the Stone Age rather than stick around to try to make it up to him. (Complicated, to be sure, by the fact she isn’t his actual mother, she’s a robot who’s kind of trashed and riddled with weird crystals and frankly probably won’t survive long where she’s going, but still, she chooses to leave him.)

I was a bit saddened by the fact that part of Arven’s acceptance of what happened seems to be a belief that it was understandable for his mother to be more interested in a time machine than in him. No it wasn’t! You’re a good boy! Evidently his little buddy is going to have to stick close and encourage him to think better of himself. And maybe we can go on an Adventour with Peony, I think that would really cheer him up.

Also, unbelievably awful that Sada or Turo made him responsible for Koraidon or Miraidon when he was just a kid, gave him no help to look after a Pokémon no one alive has any experience with, and made him feel like it was his fault when he lost control of the situation. What bloody useless parents. No wonder Arven resents Koraidon or Miraidon, and it’s a sign of his good character that despite feeling that way he’s still basically kind to it.

Anyway, I’m glad we healed his dog.

And all that said, “the Professor is the Big Bad” was a really fun twist and also kind of economical character-wise. Chairman Rose was an absolute dud of a Big Bad, particularly after a batshit powerhouse like Lusamine, so I was pleased to see he was an anomaly rather than typical for the games going forward.

I've seen so much hate on Nancy for "messing Steve around" and it's actually so ridiculous. I love Steve, but early seasons Steve did a lot of fucked up things and Nancy? All she did was break up with a person she didn't love. Nancy is a fricking traumatised teenager and she gets so much hate for things that just make no sense. People say that she's dismissive of Jonathan being poor and having struggles that she "doesn't understand" yet they ignore the way Jonathan dismissed her struggles with all her coworkers being sexist arseholes and treating her like garbage as though that was something she should just suck it up and deal with. That's what is bullshit around here.

Nancy who constantly protects everyone around her. Who looked Vecna in the eye and kept shooting. She stayed strong no matter what. She was shooting at flayed!b*lly when he was literally going to kill her and everyone else in the car. And yoy really want to talk about how she's "stringing people along" um no she really isn't. She's literally just trying to live her life and solve mysteries to ensure they all get to stay alive.

Steve was not a good person in s1, saying that does not mean you can't love who he is now. But don't act like Nancy has done anything that's worthy of all the hate she receives. The writers just don't know how to give her a proper storyline where she gets to properly explore everything. My ideal ending for Nancy is her discovering that she doesn't want a relationship and her going off to college with her wife bestie Robin and feeling free. Just let my smart, snarky girl live without treating her like she's the fucking devil for standing up for herself and not staying with people she doesn't love

Anyway, Nancy Wheeler is the bravest and most loyal character and I will not have her good name tarnished on this blog. I love her and she deserves the fricking world.

Book Cover Redesign Brief Trial 1:

James and The Giant Peach: The dark twist cover that makes you focus on the dark aspects of Roald Dahl's books.

Inspired by Penguin’s new cover design for Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory cover.

This book cover makes readers approach the classic story with a different lens, and in a more mature approach: looks at the decisions the children make, and how they are motivated by their parents. This is interesting as the book focuses on how horrible, naughty, or spoiled the children are, without much focus on how in actuality the parents are responsible for their behaviour.

Articles below on how this cover design was seen as strange, creepy, and dark.

Below are the original illustrations of the first publication of the book by Nancy Ekholm Burket. As this illustrator worked with Roald Dahl in creating these visuals, it shows that Roald Dahl had envisioned his story to not only be slightly eerie but also to show the weight of James' mistreatment.

To begin with, I began reading the book (as advised by becky) ignoring any previous impressions of the narrative or book I already had. I realised the first couple chapters were vey much focused on how James was mistreated by his aunts (and i made the deduction of how this may have traumatised him)

According to my initial idea sketch, I attempted to combine the sinister interpretations of the book with Quentin Blake's illustrations and present them as James's hopeful or trauma induced delusions. However this was unsuccessful due to how vastly different the two styles were. Even editing the colours to be more even did not work. Therefore I decided to assess what I think worked and what needed to be changed.

I though the portrayal of James' poor living situation by the run-down dark small window worked as the book describes his room to be as bare and small as a jail cell. Furthermore James looks out of the window in the book as his only means of escapism (he is not aloud to roam outside without his aunts' supervision and torment). Although the hands were meant to show his longing, how he is malnourished and starved by his aunts, I decided it looked too much like a horror film poster and need to be toned down. Quentin Blake's illustrations as James' perceptions and delusions did not really work as they were in a watercolour art style and were line drawings.

My final design shows the view from James' window. The view is deliberately blurry to hint at how it is his delusion or mirage. Altogether I think this cover is more visually effective however it overall is very dark may be too harsh of a contrast in comparison to the playful contents and tone of the book.

Furthermore as the brief details the necessity of the inclusion of "illustrated by Quentin Blake" and how it will have to appeal to "family and children" audiences, though this experimental approach inspired by Penguin's new Charlie and the Chocolate factory cover and the book's original eerie illustrations, it was not suitable for the brief's requirements. Quentin Blake's illustrations are very straightforward in illustrating the scenes of the book and makes it very difficult for there to be room for readers' interpretation in a negative way. Therefore I decided to take my visions of using visual symbols to another book.

I started playing rdr2 but stopped because like idk but I can't seem to get over the fact that all the women are prostitutes and they don't really have any important roles. Like what's Abigail do? Ooh she's a mother who's always mad? What do the other women do? Oooh they sleep with the gang. What's Sadie do? Oooh she becomes a badly written femme fetale who suddenly becomes a flawless killer. The women are just so badly represented.

I get the feeling you didn't play the game naturally or see any random encounters, because none of what you said is true. There's a lot to unpack here, so let's start with the "all the women are prostitutes" comment.

First of all, none of the women are prostitutes, a fact that deeply irritates Micah. During a coach robbery where he rides with Arthur and Bill, he even says, “Why the hell do we need a gaggle of girls who won’t even fuck you if you put a gun to their head? Is it too much to ask considering they get a piece of every damn dollar I bring in?” Poor baby. He even tries to proposition all of the women (Grimshaw included), but they all insult him and send him running with his tail between his legs. It’s hilarious and I love it. Arthur also responds to Micah with, “Everyone does their share. I don’t see you lifting a finger around camp.”

Now a bit about the girls:

Mary-Beth was a skilled pickpocket, but she ended up being caught by a group of her victims. She mentions this during a conversation with Arthur, where she points out how hard it was for women who came from nothing, and the inequality of it all. RDR2 actually regularly highlights how difficult frontier/outlaw life was for women back then, often pulling zero punches. While fleeing her pursuers, Mary-Beth luckily ran into Hosea, who helped her escape and welcomed her to the gang. You can see Dutch lusting after her a few times, because he's an old pervert, but she always shuns his advances. She was never a prostitute and she was actually underage when she joined.

Tilly was a child outlaw and a member of the Forman gang from the age of twelve. She ended up killing the leader's cousin because he [as is heavily implied] tried to rape her. She was around sixteen at the time and tried to return to her mother after the ordeal, but she unfortunately passed away while Tilly was running with the Formans. Out of options, she eventually joined the van der Linde gang after Dutch saved her from some unspecified trouble. You can find most of this out during one of my favourite side missions, where she gets kidnapped by Anthony Foreman in retaliation for killing his cousin. With Grimshaw’s help, you can rescue Tilly and put an end to it once and for all. She was never a prostitute and was also underage when taken in.

Susan Grimshaw was one of the original members of the gang and one of Dutch's first lovers. They parted amicably and both fell in love with other people (Dutch with Annabelle, and Susan with a doctor who sadly ended up dying), but she stayed with the gang because of their mutual respect for each other. She later became the arbiter of the camp and a kind of surrogate mother to Arthur, John, and the other girls. She was never a prostitute, but rather a rough-and-tumble outlaw.

Karen is a little more complicated. Overall, she was a scam artist (Hosea even called her an “actress”) who sometimes lured men into brothels, then stole from them or picked their brains for leads. That doesn't necessarily mean she was a prostitute; however, it just means she used sex as a manipulation tactic. Out of all the women in the group, she was the freest and most unconventional. She also stood on guard duty and participated in heists. The only man she ever slept with in game was Sean, and his death absolutely devastated her. If you talk to her or observe her interactions, you also discover she’s a raging alcoholic suffering from some very deep-seated issues. She likely did have to do things she wasn’t proud of in order to survive, but in my opinion that makes her one of the most realistic members of the group. She was never described as a prostitute.

Molly was an aristocrat who left her family to be with Dutch. His abusive treatment eventually led her to suffer an identity crisis, where she ended up hysterical and heartbroken. Her story is sad, but she was never a prostitute. If anything, Molly is the best example we have that Dutch views people as items, not human beings.

Abigail is the only prostitute in the game, but by the events of RDR2 she's an ex-prostitute. To say she's nothing more than "a mother who's always mad", I feel, does her character a great disservice. First of all, she left that profession behind to raise her son, to give him a decent chance in life. Unlike John, she stepped up immediately to become a responsible adult. I don't think people realise how impressive that is because, one, she could've easily abandoned Jack at the roadside (which was common back then), two, she could've induced an abortion, and three, she was quite young when she had him; around nineteen years old.

You say the women are "poorly represented", but they're stronger, smarter, and more mature than most of the men. A few of them even become self-sufficient in the turn of the century, something dear old Dutch couldn't even do/accept. Abigail in particular helps Sadie mourn her husband and the two grow very close. Their interactions are both grounded and heartwarming, with Abigail telling Sadie she’ll suffer the loss of her husband, but that it’ll get better if she keeps on living. She takes care of her, and Sadie later returns that kindness. These women are so full of quirks and humour and personality, I don’t know how you missed it.

As for Sadie ... where do I even begin? Badly written? Femme fatale? Flawless killer? Sadie is one of the best written characters. She's not flawless, she's exceptionally flawed, temperamental, and traumatised. It's never expressly stated, but it's implied at several points throughout the game that she was repeatedly assaulted while the O'Driscolls kept her captive. At first, she's petrified and miserable, to the point that all she does is cry and express suicidal ideation. Then, she gets angry. Very angry. Having nothing left to live for, her home and husband torn from her grasp, she throws herself headfirst into danger, which almost gets her killed on a number of occasions.

She's not a "flawless killer", she's a messy killer. She's not an expert death-dealer, and that's made evident from the start -- but she was a hunter who shared the workload with her husband, so it's not as if her skills just magically appeared. You do see how much it weighs on her, however, near the end of chapter six. If you help her kill the rest of the O'Driscolls, she laments what she's become because she thinks her husband would be horrified. She’s extremely complex and struggles between mourning and moving on.

I also can't help but laugh at the "femme fatale" accusation, because Sadie actually defeminises herself, which is understandable considering the hell she’s suffered. She even wears men's clothing, which wasn't illegal [anymore] back then, but it was openly frowned upon. Femme fatales use their beauty and sexuality to their advantage, ensnaring men with their feminine wiles. Sadie never does that and fights side-by-side with the boys. Interestingly enough, that's partially why Calamity Jane, an actual historical figure, garnered so much attention, because of how she behaved/dressed. It’s pretty clear to me that Rockstar might’ve used her as inspiration for Sadie. This was a real woman who lived from 1852 to 1903.

In addition, Sadie plays one of the most important roles, yet she does so without falling into the category of a Mary-Sue. She saves the gang and moves them to a new location when the Pinkertons attack Shady Belle. She hatches the plan that frees John from prison. She helps Arthur rescue Abigail after she gets kidnapped. She tracks down Micah and puts an end to his reign of terror. But most of what she does she accomplishes with a partner--Arthur or John--both of whom she respects immensely. No one, not even Arthur, does everything alone, and when they do there’s usually negative consequences. It's the camaraderie and shared experiences that make these characters successful, and aside from Charles and Hosea, I’d even argue that the women are more well-rounded and fleshed out than the men.

I gather from for comments that you didn't finish the game, so I hate to spoil it, but I kind of have to if you walked away with this mindset. The women of RDR2 are a force to be reckoned with.

Once Upon A Time Rewatch: 7x19 Flower Child

So, turns out I had a fever during last week’s rewatch because I have covid. Not doing too bad though.

I think Alice would have liked her auntie Yarrow and grandmother.

Does Gothel only have one sister or is she just the oldest of all the nymphs?

It’s so bizarre to me that this is supposed to be the land without magic before everyone was destroyed and humanity started again. Like this is freaking before ancient times and their clothing looks like it belongs in maybe the 18th century. Although, I suppose it could be that humanity advanced over the years before everyone was destroyed. 

Isla is just the freaking ultimate bitch. She’s like Regina George but if she committed genocide. 

So Gothel has magic in the lwom now because she absorbed it from Anastasia. I’m only learning this on this rewatch. Must have absorbed a lot of it. And it seems it wasn’t Anastasia’s brand of magic.

That’s ridiculous. You’re telling me this desk sergeant dude found and woke all the Coven of the Eight in less than a day when Gothel couldn’t?!

Good to know Gothel doesn’t seem to be homophobic though. That’s about the only decent thing she’s got going for her. Tbh Seraphina seems to be her life partner anyway. They’ve known each other for thousands of years and there’s nothing hetero about their interactions. Seraphina deserves better, of course but ngl I ship it.

I can never tell if those tears are real. I’d like to believe they were and Gothel feels some regret for what she did to Alice but I’m not sure. I think she means what she says about the world being cruel to her so she became cruel.

Tilly must have memories of her mum leaving when she was very young for her not to remember her face.

How is she gonna explain away her creepy waving at the security camera?

If I was Tilly I’d demand a DNA test, though that could prove difficult if they wanna keep their nymph blood hidden. 

Aggh poor Tilly.

Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like if things had been different, if Gothel hadn’t tricked Hook and had loved and had joint custody of Alice. She had the potential to be a good mother, if she’d only taken her own mother’s last words to heart. Instead, she did the complete freaking opposite and terrorised and traumatised her own child. But still, idk could make an interesting fic. She’d still have her dark tendencies and would perhaps try to brainwash Alice but still she would be loving in this hypothetical au. I just love complicated mother-daughter relationships. 

She does still look upset even after Tilly turns her back.

Facilier would make a great step-grandad to Lucy. I love their dynamic.

I don’t understand how Facilier seemed to have magic in the lwom from when he first appeared in HH. He messed up the lights when he entered the room. Maybe because his brand of magic exists in some form in this world. Also, I wonder why he took 2 years to reach out to Regina. Did someone wake him up? And if so, who?

God, I hate Gothel for upsetting Tilly like that.

Isla is the worst.

Seraphina is probably screaming inside every second she’s around Isla. She must be terrified for her life on top of having to put up with such a fake ass biatch.

Seraphina’s trying to help her out. 

I really like Seraphina and I think it’s mainly ‘cause she looks a lot like my cousin. I want to know more about her. How does she have magic? Why does she always end up hanging with genocidal monsters? Did Gothel/Isla kill her family? How did she really feel after Gothel slaughtered all of humanity presumably in front of her? Is she constantly in fear and will she ever catch a break??!

Wow, what a bully. I can’t believe she went from bitchy mean girl to genocidal so quick. Talk about turning it from 0 to 100.

Why does she say “you lied” specifically to Seraphina?

Okay but that look between Gothel and Seraphina. Jesus Christ, why am I shipping them?

I think I’ve said it before but Gothel’s ability to put people in a trance and control them is so cool and opens up so many opportunities. I wish it was explored more.

Bless Tilly. She always wanted a mum. I wonder if Alice felt the same. I wonder when and how Alice found out Gothel was her mother if she was ever told. I headcanon that Gothel told her cruelly a short time after her father was banished. She probably taunted her about not even her own mother wanting her or something. Anyway, Tiana’s married to Wish Hook and is Alice’s mother now. And I’m sure Zelena’s a great mother-in-law.

It’s interesting that so many people are starting to believe they were magically cursed before the curse is broken. That’s a lot to believe.

Love Tilly’s little mushroom and bunny set up. She must have just made them. Love that she always finds unique ways to entertain herself.

Love that Rogers foresaw that she’d be hungry and brought her a sandwich. So sweet of him! And it’s marmalade! He knows his kid! 

And he’s so happy. And she’s so thankful. I love them so much.

I wonder what would have happened if Tilly stayed in the car.

Oh my God, I do feel for Gothel here. They killed her whole family!

At first, I thought Isla killed them all herself, which I honestly wouldn’t put past her.

So, they were all her sisters? Are tree nymphs all women? I have a theory that Gothel’s father abandoned her, which is part of the reason she gives Hook such hell.

Oh, Gothel’s mother is called Flora.

She would have loved Alice and would be rolling in her grave if she knew how Gothel had treated her. She wanted Gothel to be a good mother to all. Imagine if she knew how Gothel had colossally failed at that with her own daughter.

When Flora says she holds a very powerful seed within her, is she referring to Alice? Could she see the future?

“All mothers know that only goodness can bear sweet fruit.” Gothel completely ignored her. Must have had her earpods in.

Rogers going into full protective papa bear mode when they take Tilly. He’s about to murder someone.

He’s so scared for her.

“I swear Eloise, I won’t let my badge stop me from killing you if you hurt that girl.” Bless him. He’d do anything for her even when he doesn’t remember she’s his daughter.

What the actual f is wrong with you Isla?!! You commit freaking genocide and then throw a party!! She’s seriously messed up.

Now she’s scared.

Okay, I can’t help feeling sorry for Gothel hear. What she went through is absolutely horrific. 

The way she seems to feel a special kind of betrayed by Seraphina. You can’t tell me they didn’t kiss.

I don’t think Seraphina’s got a choice in the matter. Guess you gotta join her, girl.

Gothel’s pretty powerful. Love that she’s a chlorokinetic. It’s nice to see more unique powers for the magic users in this show. 

Rogers: “Hey. It’ll be alright Tilly.” Bless him. He’s frightened himself and knows Tilly must be even more scared and anxious and the most important thing to him is to reassure her. The girl’s traumatised as it is and he must be worried about how this event will affect her mental health. 

Tilly: “I really don’t like it here.” I just wanna hug her. Someone get her a marmalade sandwich! 

“I am truly sorry I never saw it sooner; how special you are. Had I known you were like us things would have been very different for you.” I wonder if that’s true and how things would have been different. And did she only just find out Alice was magical or something? It seems like it. Otherwise, she would have approached her sooner, I think.

Seraphina, my girl! Are you okay? How have you been? 

Rogers trying to work out if he ever fathered anyone.

Psst. Cheeky self-promo for my fic ‘The Letters from No One’. It’s about Rogers receiving letters telling him that he’s fathered a baby who he gets really attached to just by reading about her, and later is told she died only to realise years later that Tilly was that child. 

Also, if Tilly is so easily convinced that Rogers is her father does that mean the father she remembers died when she was too young to remember what he looked like? It could be a result of her memory not being very good. Or I guess she might be questioning whether that guy was her biological father and whether Rogers might be her bio dad. Anyway, read my friend abetternameneeded on ao3’s fics about Tilly growing up with the cult with her misguided father. They’re amazing! 

Gothel: “You were born from both sides of the looking glass.” I see your Alice in Wonderland reference there Gothel!

Do all the coven members hate humanity as well. She does know they’re human, right? I guess she makes an exception for witches.

Seraphina has seen some freaking horrors tonight. Are you okay, hun?

What if Seraphina just wants to go home and drink some hot cocoa? My girl’s had a long, traumatising day! 

Oh, is that the place that becomes the place where Gothel and Regina fight in the next ep? I think it must be. And the cave’s underneath that, I guess.

Oh, thousands of years later. I thought it was just a thousand. I wonder how many thousand years later. Shouldn’t it be more like millions? What about dinosaurs?! Wow. Mother Gothel is kinda our worlds creator. Who’d have thunk? People should be worshipping her I guess cause that kinda makes her God. Oh yeah and she’s mother nature, so that makes sense.

Does Seraphina’s magic keep her young? Magic seems to do that because I think Regina and Zelena are in their 60s or 70s this season. 

But, like, is Seraphina immortal? How’s she still alive. Did Gothel keep her alive?

Don’t touch Rogers. Tilly looks so disturbed. Same, girl.

Curing Henry was too easy in the end.

They’re so ready to believe wow. I’m not sure I would. Although I’d like to believe it.

Why didn’t their kiss work? Do dark curses need a Savior to break them? Otherwise, it should have worked. They both believed. Is it cause they’re not holding the book? It can’t be. Idk, it doesn’t make sense.

Aww. Tilly already wants to spend the rest of her life with Margot. My heart! Gosh I love them.

I wonder if Rogers believes he’s Tilly’s father at this point.

She’s so happy at the prospect of Rogers being her father.

Love their spell. It’s so creepy. My favourite line is ‘old for nursery, dark for church.’ Though I have no idea what any of it means.

Gothel: “Hold on to your mother’s hand dear. I’m your family.” Some family she is.

Poor Tilly. She must be freaked out by all this.

It’s no bother!! I love getting requests from you guys! The more, the merrier. I sort of hc that the brothers and MC do have movie night every week or so and with them being demons, they tend to levitate towards the horror genre. Thank you for sending this, this is really cute :)))

The Brothers watching Scary movies with MC:

Lucifer:

-Haha mf already knows how this is going to end

-He warned you, he really did

-The horror movies DevilDom has to offer are nothing, and I mean nothing, like the ones from the human world

-I’m not going to go into detail but imagine Two Girls One Cup, in a less kinky and more gorey way (then times that by 10)

-But you were adamant into giving it a go and he literally could not deny you in that moment

-Because you were giving him the puppy eyes

-That’s like, the finishing blow you use every time to get your way with him and as far as you know it’s the only one that works so-

-He expected your reaction to the last second

-You were traumatised for lack of a better word and you were basically watching the whole film through the cracks between your fingers

-Seeing you in that state was like a punch in the gut but he couldn’t stop himself from throwing in a subtle ‘I told you so’

-“I told you watching something like this before bed is a bad idea, MC.”

-He might be a bit condescending and judgemental at first, but he’s probably going to baby you a bit for the rest of the night

-Because he feels bad he allowed you to watch it in the first place

-HAHAHAHA SOFT LUCIFER HAS BEEN SUMMONED, USE HIM WISELY

-He will start muttering words of comfort to you later because he’s certain you’re going to have trouble sleeping

-Because of that one time, he’s very hesitant to let you watch another horror film anytime soon

-But he will relent eventually (especially if you want to watch a human horror film as those are technically less extreme)

-If it makes you happy, he will go through with it, even if he has to let you cling onto him for the rest of the day

-Besides, the way you cuddle into him while you’re watching a horror film is very cute and endearing to him

Mammon:

-Ah yes, the most effective method of waking up the entire House of Lamentation at 3:00 am

-Mammon screaming his own vocal cords out in his room as he tries to get through his human’s favourite horror movie without dying of a heart attack

-It was his idea because he’s definitely the type to go: “Yeah let’s do this, it will be fun. Don’t get too scared alright MC? The Great Mammon will be here to protect ya.”

-And then ten minutes in, he’s basically in your lap

-Half an hour in, he turned himself into a demon burrito with his blankets

-You were enjoying the movie, laughing at the stupid sound effects and poor quality while Mammon next to you has wrapped himself in like two dozen blankets and pillows

-“Mammon you’re going to overheat.”

-“Don’t be silly human, I’m a demon who lives in hell. I can take high temperatures the same way I can take this damn movie!”

-He doesn’t take either of them well

-Mammon and the horror genre don’t mix well together to begin with

-So even if you might enjoy horror, he doesn’t react well to it at all

-And he’ll be low-key relieved if you tell him you guys don’t have to watch any sort of horror film for your date night

-“Well I guess if you don’t want to, then we don’t have to. Can’t make my human do something they’re uncomfortable with eh?”

-But if you do watch a scary movie with him, be sure to show any sort of physical affection to him as often as possible

-You don’t have to say anything, just hold his hand or let him put his head in your lap or something

-It might stop him from screeching like a female sloth in heat

-The last time that happened, his brothers weren’t too pleased with him

-They about to recreate the horror film scenes onto him, bring the popcorn have fun

Levi:

-For some reason, I feel like he doesn’t get scared easily while watching stuff

-I mean, after decades of obsessively watching animes with brutal character deaths (like Attack on Titan style) and grotesque horror games that are pretty nasty even to demons, let alone humans;

-A horror film, from the human world or even DevilDom, doesn’t do much for him

-It will have to have very good psychological horror in it if you want the hairs on his arms to stand up in anticipation

-Tension is a big deal for him and he will immediately shut off the TV if there are any cheap jump scares

-But, if you manage to find just the right thing for him?

-You’ll both be hiding under the bed in no time under the bathtub more like

-Hell, if the film you’re watching is that good, he might even be holding onto you for dear life without realising it and getting flustered about it

-For weeks afterwards, any sound that is remotely similar to one from that movie will probably send both of you into panic

-You came to his room one night because you’ve had a nightmare about the stupid film and legitimately thought there was a fucking demon serial killer in your room

-So you wanted to stay in his

-“But what if there is a serial killer in your room and now you just led it to me MC????”

-It’s all jokes, there’s no question he would lock both of you in his room and then stay there with you wide awake until dawn

-You’re his best friend after all, he would have to be completely heartless to leave you on your own! (Besides Levi is terrifying when he wants to be)

-One time you were sleeping over and the sound of fumbling woke you tf up

-And Levi immediately turned into his demon form, like he was ready to throw hands with this fictional murderer that supposedly sneaked into his room

-“DON’T WORRY MC, I’LL PROTECT YOU!”

-“Ah never mind, it’s just Mammon breaking into your room again to steal your Ruri-Cham figurines and sell them on Akuzon.”

-“Oh OK.”

-“.....”

-“WAIT MAMMON WTF YOU FUCKING SCUMBAG, GET OUT OF MY ROOM-“

-I’m playing Minecraft

Satan:

-Believe it or not, Satan doesn’t care much about horror movies

-Don’t get me wrong, he loves watching his brothers shit their pants out of fear in the middle of one while he silently smirks to himself because watching other people suffer brings him euphoria

-Especially if someone actually manages to find a film that is excellent enough to spook Lucifer, because then he will be cackLING

-But, overall, he watches a lot of shows revolved around drama and crime

-That’s his thing

-However, he won’t turn you down if you’re up to watching a scary movie with him

-Any time spent with you is valuable time seeing as it won’t be long before his brothers start hogging you again like the cockblockers they are

-He is honestly surprised to find out you seem to be rather amused by those sort of movies

-So, even if it’s not inherently something he does on the regular, he would definitely watch a scary film with you if you enjoy them that much

-But in exchange, he makes you promise to read with him until bedtime rolls around (imagine Lucifer having a fucking curfew for his brothers and you lmao)

-So for the rest of night you guys just read together, ya know, like sappy romantics

-Tbh, this man will do almost anything with you as long as both of you are having fun

-He knows it’s not likely, but he insists on sleeping in the same room that night just in case you have nightmares and he needs to comfort you

-Satan is a gentleman. Idk how many people that don’t play OM expected to hear this

Asmo:

-Why would you want to watch a movie when you could be watching him???

-I mean, you would rather watch all that gory stuff on the TV than his beautiful face?

-Horror films aren’t something he generally looks for while trying to pick a movie to watch

-He can definitely handle them better than Mammon but it’s not something he takes great pleasure in watching

-But the first time he ever sits down with you to watch one, he’s very intrigued to see your reactions

-You started feeling the sensation of absolute dread creep in at the very beginning and you were trying your best to act like you weren’t getting affected by what you saw on the screen

-Beel will show up if there’s food and that’s that

-He doesn’t care what type of movie is playing on the TV as long as he has a bucket of popcorn next to him at all times

-Horror films aren’t something he can’t handle, he’s a demon like the rest of his brothers and he is used to...violent deaths and such

-He doesn’t get scared but there are times where he gets attached to the characters

-Especially movies with actual good and not cringeworthy dialogue

-Therefore, when they die, he gets sad even if they’re just fictional and their death had no real impact

-He also thinks that the way you can watch these things without flinching is impressive

-I mean, he can watch it and so can his brothers because they are demons

-They’ve done worse things than the things you see in horror films

-But you’re a human! So it’s weird to see you watch a person get repeatedly slammed against a wall until their neck snaps without batting an eyelid

-Overall, he does not have an opinion on scary movies

-He gets a bit emotional when a character he really liked dies

-But other than that, he’s just focused on eating

-And occasionally patting your head affectionately

Belphie:

-He doesn’t really like horror films because there’s a lot of screaming and tense music and he’s just trying to nap in your lap (rhyme)

-He doesn’t really need sound effects like that in the background while he’s trying to sleep

-But one day he was like “Hey, what if I show my favourite human this particular scary film?”

-And he did

-And he’s internally dying and feeling guilty and yet so flustered because of you

-It’s like you suddenly turn into this very fidgety and anxious mess and he thinks you just look....cute

-At some point you were getting overwhelmed and sprung up on your feet to turn the lights on

-And he just grabbbed your wrists, pulled you down next to him and let you press your head against his chest

-As mentioned, he’s a little shit and will tease you for being such a scaredy cat

-“That was the most predictable jumpscare and you still flinched, wth is wrong with you lmao.”

-But at the same time....

-“Relax. It’s just a horror movie. You’ll be fine. Besides, I’m here. Like I would let something bad happen to you.”

-That’s sweet, even if the tone of voice may not imply it because he’s such a brat-

-He actually really likes holding you for once, because usually he’s the little spoon

-He’s still a bit of a sadist so I imagine him sitting there and watching this while giggling to himself

-Isn’t he the cutest, laughing at other people’s misery and their never ending suffering?🥺🥺🥺 UwU

-Ah well, at least he has the decency to spoil with affection afterwards and make sure you have no nightmares that night

-You know, as payback for the horrific shit he made you watch with no warning

Chapter 3 - Mealtime Woes

Her daughter spoke! She was just selective who to. Cass could work with this; this was her ball game!! Excitement filled her veins as she carefully hugged the girl. After the bathing drama she didn’t want to traumatise her too much more. Her daughter could talk and chose to speak to her!! To her of all people. If Cass hadn't claimed her as her own already this would have sealed the deal.

The girl jabbed Cass breaking the hug up. She was still pouting but now also looking disgruntled. The hug, and touch, not having the same effect on her as it did Cass. The murmur of “Chocolate” came out her mouth again, still almost silent that you had to be keen to notice. Luckily this was Cass and with all her past, the subtleties would always be noticed. Her daughter would always been seen/heard and listened to in Cass’s world.

Cass nodded to the girl. She did say she could have chocolate for being good. “Chocolate yes, food too” signing along. She hoped that the signing would allow the girl an alternative way to communicate and pick it up. Maybe sign lessons would need to be added to her mental list.

Cass held her hand out for her daughter to choose to take. The hand was critically looked at by the girl before giving Cass a sceptical look, but the girl eventually took the pre offered hand. Cass hummed in contentment; her daughter trusted her, well sort of, the trust was growing at least. She was trusted more than those who had or found her. A warm happy feeling flowed through her body.

Leading her to the kitchen Cass went about finding the girl some chocolate. Her daughter kept a sharp eye on Cass’s movements as she went about finding the promised chocolate. The girl's eyes growing wide and filled with emotion as she saw Cass (and Jason’s) chocolate stash and bar being given to her before she slotted a hesitant mask back into place. Again, the girl cautiously inspected the chocolate before devouring it quickly as if it would be taken from her. Cass slightly frowned, what had her poor baby gone through. She would protect her with everything she could now she was in her care.

Cass’s thoughts were interrupted by the doorbell. Her daughter jumped at the noise, eyes blown and scanning the area for threats and escape routes. Not long after came the noise of Jason swearing under his breath as he crashed out of his room to go take the food setting her daughter on edge more. Cass internally chuckled quietly to herself at her brothers loud blustering behaviour which contrasted completely with how stealthily he could really be but was concerned about how the loud noise set her daughter on edge. The girl had winced at the loud noise like it pained her.

Guiding the girl to the table, Jason came back into the room food in his hands. Dim sum, dumplings, noodles, veg and a soup were quickly decanted onto the table. Jason instantly poured a third of the soup into a smaller bowl and placed it in front of her daughter, evidently having decided that was best for her daughter, before loading his plate up with a bit of everything from the selection. Cass grinned at her found family as she brought drinks to the table and started to join Jason in grabbing food.

“So, what happened in the bathroom?! It’s the remains of a warzone Cass” Jason somehow asked between the mouthfuls he was shovelling in.

Cass frowned at Jason’s table manners. It is NOT good example for her daughter. Tapping the table Cass signed to Jason ‘ Manners!!! Alfred will not approve . He would be horrified. ’ “Manners” ‘ Bath time contained more steps than originally planned and anticipated. You will clean it up as I will be settling in MY daughter’ “Bath messy. You clean.” with a glare.

“ME clean!!! YOU made the fucking mess Cass!!! And I’m a guest here, where are your manners Cass hmmmmm. What would Alfred say about that” Jason blasted back before looking at ‘Cass’s daughter’. Speaking softer than he had been a minute ago “Hey Kiddo, as Cass here has decided she is now your mum that makes me your Uncle Jay. And as Uncle Jay I’m saying ya need to eat some of the soup. It will be good for you and your stomach. It’s safe. Promise”

Cass nodded along with Jason’s sentiments to her daughter. “Safe. Eat now” ‘You can eat it. It's safe. Won’t hurt you. It tastes nice.’

The girl shook her head and pushed the soup way. “Kiddo, it’s good for you. Ya need to eat” Jason tried again. They didn’t know when she has last eaten a proper meal and she could do with gaining some weight. The glare he received back was a good one. Not quite the Demon Spawns or Bats level but it was a good glare.

“Ya claimed a stubborn kid Cass. She’ll fit in perfectly with the rest of the crazies B has claimed as his. Found out her name yet?”

Shaking her head at Jason in response to his question, Cass returned her focus to her daughter. “Eat now. Food time”, the girl’s blue eyes bore into Cass’s before turning to look at Jason's. With slow deliberation, the girl picked up the spoon while her eye contact remained flitting between the pair as she moved her spoon held hand out into the room away from the table. Ensuring she still held their attention she dropped the spoon, sitting back with her arms folded, frown upon her face. Clearly not impressed with the soup/food provided.

That was not what Cass expected and strangely cat like. Surely the girl was hungry. She needed a new tactic. Forcing her to eat wouldn’t work and she already had a battle with the bathroom she didn't need or want another one. Jason would be clearing up that mess even if it meant disappointing Alfred. Though she may escape Alfred’s wrath as he now had a great grandchild; yes, that may win her favour. A quick tilt of her head brought Cass back to task how to get her girl to eat. Chocolate worked in getting her to trust her in the alley. It also worked with getting her clean even if she wasn’t happy with it. Should she use it again for getting her to eat a meal, though she could almost feel Alfred’s chagrin if she did that already.

“OUUUUUUUUCCCCHHHHHH” “Hisssssssssssssssssssssssss”

Jason's shout brought Cass out of her thoughts. Jason was cradling his hand with a look of surprise on his face. While her daughter was now standing holding a chopstick in her hand like a weapon. Quickly figuring out Jason took action to get the girl to eat without thinking and she attacked him back, Cass could only grin with amusement. The newest Cain-Wayne was not to be underestimated. Jason should have known better given he was just as bad when he joined the Wayne clan. They all were a little feral at the start and took time to adapt (did any of them ever actually stop being feral?). Her daughter though was clearly now looking distressed and like she would flee the apartment which caused Cass to leap into action to soothe her child. Recalling how Selina sometimes soothed Cass, Cass took to stroking her stubborn but brave girls' hair and humming. Selina would love her new granddaughter Cass was sure.

“She’s another gremlin! Fuck Cass, Demon Spawn is enough, we didn’t need another one! She has claws. Fuck, I didn’t know what she did with the chop stick but it bloody hurts!”

Cass deadpanned him and pointed “Mean!” before turning to her upset girl. “You chose food?” maybe choice would help.

The girl twisted and tilted her head in silent question. “You choose” ‘Your choice on what you eat’ responded Cass. Her girl suddenly skipped up and grabbed Cass’s hand and led to the kitchen to point at the cupboard which Cass had taken the chocolate out. Cass paused. With a reply “No chocolate, Din Sum or soup now” the girls eyes narrowed and pointed again. Cass let out a big sigh and shook her head. Another stalemate already! Oh Great Alfred’s! She would beat Bruce; she could do this; She would not cave.

Jason joined them in the kitchen just as the girl decided to change tactics. Instead of glaring, she looked up to Cass with her blue eyes wide, shimmering with unshed tears, lips wobbling before whispering “Chocolate”. Cass was at a loss, when angry and put out the girl looked cute and amusing, like an angry fluffed up kitten that needed soothing. This though shot to her heart. Could she resist these puppy dog eyes?

Jason caved first. Almost within seconds of the girl switching from hostility to sadness and launched her sad eyes if Cass was honest. “Hey, hey now kiddo, no tears now. Sorry for forcing you to eat soup. It’s ok ya know. You want chocolate, right?” pausing as the girl nodded. “Chocolate on its own isn’t a meal kiddo, but we can sort something out ya got me.” Jason picked Cass's daughter up to put on the counter before bustling around the kitchen opening and closing cupboards grabbing items as he went. “Fuck, you’re light kid, a right little pixie. I’ve got an idea you’ll like. You get your chocolate, but you will have to eat the rest of it, cos if you don’t, no more chocolate in the future, ya got me!”

Big eyes widened to stare at him, fear flickered through them at the mention of no more chocolate, but again she puts her mask back on quickly. Cass went and sat next to her girl on the counter, side hugging her close. The pair watched in curiosity at what Jason was doing. Cass trusted Jason to help her feed her daughter with something suitable based on his experience, though more chocolate was definitely going to get Alfred's disapproval, meh, she’ll blame Jason, she is bringing Alfred a great grandchild after all.

“You got a name Gremlin Two?” Jason stated as he worked his magic with the ingredients he had collected. The growl he got in the return caused him to chuckle “Ok not Gremlin 2. Pixie then? You’ve caused enough chaos for Cass this evening to be one, plus you’re light enough to fly away like fae do.”

It didn’t get a growl but the shaking over the girl's head Cass knew the girl didn’t like the name. Sadly, without the growl Cass knew Jason would forever rename her that.

“Done! Now let's get back to the table, I’m starved, and my food is getting cold” Jason announced leading the trio back out to the food.

They all resettled down, Cass and “’Pixie’” looked at what Jason had created. Chocolate spread covered apples, bread sticks and rice cakes were on the plate. Small chunks of cheese and some grapes were there too. Not huge amounts but enough to ward off hunger for at least what remained of the night and not cause nausea. Probably more than enough to keep hunger gone for a long while if it was anything like his time on the streets.

“’Pixie’” picked up an apple licked at the chocolate spread. The sounds of joy escaped her as she wiggled in her seat and started wiping the chocolate off to eat more avoiding the apple.

"Remember the deal Pixie, all of it or no more chocolate"

The girl pouted but put the apple in her mouth with a mock glare at Jason. Even eating the apple caused her to hum in apparent happiness.

Cass smiled at Jason. “Thank you” before tucking into the feast they had in front of them. It might not meet Alfred’s approval, but her daughter was eating, though how to get the girl to eat without chocolate may be a challenge. At least she is eating though. That's a future problem to worry about at a later point, main thing was she was eating and clean. Not a very Batman approved approach with all his planning, but this involved a child. Children didn’t follow the plans especially semi feral ones, so a more flexible approach made sense to Cass. Cass was sure Alfred would approve.

Now that they all were eating and with Jason repeatedly calling her daughter Pixie it brought up the name issue. It was next on her mental list of things to do.

1) bathe daughter

2) dress cuts and bruises

3) feed daughter (in progress)

4) name daughter

5) put daughter to bed

6) get clothes for daughter

7) investigate daughters' markings

8) investigate sign language lessons (which language to be decided)

Pixie would not do as a name. Her daughter though not hating it did not like the name, she held the name in distaste based on some of her micro behaviour but not wanting to upset due to the chocolate promise.

Knocking on the table to get the others attention ‘Do you have a name?’ “Your name?” Cass queried looking at her girl. “Yeah, Pixie, do you have another name that you go by?” Jason joined in asking. The girl paused in her eating of her chocolate-based meal and look at the pair. She held a thinking face as if pondering the question, weighing up the responses she could provide. After a few moments she shook her head. A quick look passed between the adults at the table, understanding that behaviour it was clear she did have a name but was unwilling to share it. Whether it was due to distrust of them, or dislike of the name was unclear.

“Do ya want us to give you a new name then Pixie?” Jason tentatively probed. "'Pixie'" pointed at Cass and nodded, she did not trust Jason’s naming skills. Jason huffed and rolled his eyes, “Over to you now Cass”

Cass hummed in response. Thinking back to what the other street kids called her, “Dolly” and “Marionette”. She didn’t come across as a puppet to Cass. Though she seemed to be inclined to follow adults' lead, her daughter held a fire within her, she seemed to gauge the threat around her and chose the best course of action for her survival. That to Cass screamed someone who wasn’t a puppet.

Dolly as a name could closely linked with so many rogues in Gotham so wouldn’t do. Marionette, hmmm, Marinette maybe, Marie... Cass quite liked that, close to what she had been before with the kids so would most likely to respond but not too close to bring up trauma.

‘Do you like Marie?’ “Marie?” she asked her daughter. A sharp contemplative look was her response. She let the girl read her knowing she was searching for something, an answer to an impossible question. Both Cass and Jason observed her trying to figure out what she was looking for unsuccessfully. When she had reached her conclusion, she pointed to herself and whispered “Marie”.

Notes: according to internet search Marie can mean: wished for child, rebellion, mistress/lady of the sea, sea of bitterness/sorrow, which kinda fits I think (except for the current aversion of water)
