a lovely quote i've been keeping in mind this week is, "human happiness lies in a series of tensions" from last week's 채씨표류기 episode and i'm so excited to watch today's one!
it's only natural that i feel drained at the end of the week as there's so much to do between work and studies... having something like this to give even a small energy boost is very precious to me 🥺

Unfortunately. I have Opinions about how teachers teach. I've never really been a teacher myself but I still think You're Doing it Wrong.

No but seriously I’ll say it here too. DNI’s are functionally useless and counterproductive.

im currently active in writers forums and it's quite upsetting how every week or so there's a new discussion that amounts to "should non-native speakers be allowed to write"
because some people out there will straight up start a convo like "if you cant speak or write perfect flawless english you shouldnt write books or fanfiction or participate in any type of creative writing because its grating to read and just wrong", and then someone points out that some people have reading disabilities or aren't native speakers and may just need another correction pass by a reader.
And that first person will bounce back like "yeah but that doesnt change that its bad and grating to read and they should just not write at all/only write in their native language, because its 'destroying the english language'"
and I've never participated in these because I'd rip their heads off. English native speaking monolinguals online sure have some fucking nerve

Why Low Serotonin Doesn't Actually Cause Depression
youtube
Since the chemical imbalance theory was first described in 1965 by Harvard psychiatrist Joseph Schildkraut, depression has been described and perceived as a condition caused by low serotonin or a serotonin deficiency.
SSRIs, often our first-line treatment for depression, were believed to block the reuptake of serotonin in the brain... therefore, correcting the brain's chemical balance and easing the symptoms of depression.
But things don't seem to work this way...
In this video, I examine the latest research regarding serotonin and its role in depression and explain why the chemical imbalance theory of depression (first described in 1965 by Prof Joseph Schildkraut) is an outdated model that misleads the public and does more harm than it does good.

i feel like it’d really benefit humanity if they understood the psychological concept that just because you are experiencing very strong feelings does not mean those feelings are correct

i love finally having the vocabulary to explain why watching k-media is helping me learn korean in a way that means i "get" the auditory flow of the language even if i don't understand all of it yet.
"speech segmentation," which is the ability to tell where one word begins and another ends in a particular language, improves as understanding of the meaning of the words improves, and it starts with "transitional probabilities," which is the ability to predict what sound will follow another and is what makes me able to speak korean-sounding gibberish 😂
side note: i could say i'm sharing this song because it's slow and the korean is enunciated well, so it's good for practice, but i'm also biased and just love this song so much

People who are alcoholics can have stable normal lesbian relationships wtf
yes....I am aware? r u purposefully missing the point ???? here's a fun quote for u
In certain young people today like these two from my writing workshop, I notice what I find increasingly troubling: a cold-blooded grasping, a hunger to take and take and take, but never give; a massive sense of entitlement; an inability to show gratitude; an ease with dishonesty and pretension and selfishness that is couched in the language of self-care; an expectation always to be helped and rewarded no matter whether deserving or not; language that is slick and sleek but with little emotional intelligence; an astonishing level of self-absorption; an unrealistic expectation of puritanism from others; an over-inflated sense of ability, or of talent where there is any at all; an inability to apologize, truly and fully, without justifications; a passionate performance of virtue that is well executed in the public space of Twitter but not in the intimate space of friendship...
The assumption of good faith is dead. What matters is not goodness but the appearance of goodness. We are no longer human beings. We are now angels jostling to out-angel one another. God help us. It is obscene.
Read a book plz !
