Throughout history humanity has been focused on interpreting the contents of dreams… often at the expense of understanding what dreams actually are and how our brains creates them during our sleep.
In this video, I look at the latest research in the field of dream science and REM sleep. I describe how our brains create dreams and what these processes tell us about how our brains work and about our consciousness. Happy Viewing 🙂

In this video, I talk about marathon running and why I think everyone should run marathons!
I go over the research and explain why and how endurance running can improve brain function and protect the brain in old age. Hope you guys like the video!

Why Low Serotonin Doesn't Actually Cause Depression
youtube
Since the chemical imbalance theory was first described in 1965 by Harvard psychiatrist Joseph Schildkraut, depression has been described and perceived as a condition caused by low serotonin or a serotonin deficiency.
SSRIs, often our first-line treatment for depression, were believed to block the reuptake of serotonin in the brain... therefore, correcting the brain's chemical balance and easing the symptoms of depression.
But things don't seem to work this way...
In this video, I examine the latest research regarding serotonin and its role in depression and explain why the chemical imbalance theory of depression (first described in 1965 by Prof Joseph Schildkraut) is an outdated model that misleads the public and does more harm than it does good.

Fuck. Pro-Life.
“Pro-Life” is not about life.
It’s about turning the United States into a Christian theocracy that will 100% be a worse place for women and minorities than countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran.
It’s only been a few weeks since Roe vs Wade has been overturned, but anti-abortion activists are already pushing the narrative that 10 year old rape victims should be forced to give birth through some misogynistic mental gymnastics.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now… the anti-abortionists want to deny pregnant women life-saving abortions in the event of a medical/surgical emergency. IN A MEDICAL EMERGENCY.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The anti-abortion activists are literally trying to kill women and there is nothing pro-life about that.
The idiots who prance around calling themselves “Pro-Lifers” are not idiots. They are dangerous and this is a war. It’s a war against women. Get angry.

How Gut Bacteria Can Both Cause & Prevent Brain Disease
There are over 100 TRILLION bacteria living inside your gut. Altogether, they outnumber the body’s own cells by a ratio of 10:1 and boast as many as 20 million genes combined.
youtube
Until recently, scientists dismissed the “novel” idea that the gut microbiome could affect the brain 🧠 and our behaviour in any meaningful way.
This appears to be changing now as research indicates that specific gut bacteria can either cause or prevent a range of neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental conditions like ALS, Parkinson’s and Autism.
Find out how in my latest video 🙂

The U.S. Senate voted unanimously (believe it, or not they actually agreed on something) to make Daylight Saving PERMANENT from 2023 onwards.
This helps to solve the problem of our current system where we turn the clocks forwards and backwards every year — something which is believed to be responsible for increased traffic accidents, depression and even strokes/heart attacks for the 2-4 weeks following the change.
However, I personally question the wisdom of transitioning to Permanent Daylight Saving..
Why not transition to Permanent Standard Time?
I discuss some of the potential health drawbacks of Permanent Daylight Saving and the US’s failed experiment with this same idea in the 1970s!
Keen to hear what you guys think :)

“My brain JUST CAN’T DO MATH.”
You’ve probably heard some variation of this statement plenty of times at school, and even beyond that (from friends, family, colleagues at work etc..)
But is there any truth to it?
Are some people’s brains “hardwired” for Mathematics, while other people’s brains 🧠are not?
I did the research🧐 and allow me to tell you what I found out in this 8 minute YouTube video!

When you watch old videos of Jeff Bezos, it’s easy to see why MacKenzie fell in love with him. The two of them seemed like really great, ambitious people who deserved each other.
It’s also sad to see how Jeff’s priorities have seem to have changed SO MUCH since then and how that ended their marriage. I’m glad tho that she’s living her best life, in a happy relationship and continuing to be the good person she always was ♥️
MacKenzie keep living your best life!

Neuralink: Bridging The Gap Between Human & Machine
youtube
Neuralink! Also known as, Elon Musk's other (other) project.
You've probably heard of Elon Musk's plan to insert brain chips into the human brain, finally bridging the gap between human and machine.
Academically, this is known as a brain-machine interface and it's actually not that novel an idea!
In this video, I'll refer to two key scientific studies, discuss the threat of AI technology, why Elon Musk wants to put a chip in your brain and whether or not it's feasible.
Once you're done watching the video, feel free to tell me in the comments whether you would ever consider getting the N1 (or whatever future iteration) chip.
Could this be the future of humanity?

Feeling a little stressed out lately? Well.. you may want to try to RELAX because stress, or chronic stress, is your brain's worst enemy; impairing memory, learning and decision making.
Stress has been shown to lead to significant brain volume loss in the hippocampus and the prefrontal cortex while also strengthening connections in the amygdala. Hyperactivity in the amygdala is believed to increase anxiety like behaviours.
In this video I describe how you do this glucocorticoids travel through the blood brain barrier; increasing glutamate levels in the brain which is believed to be "neurotoxic" and accelerate the brain ageing process.
But why do some people thrive while others struggle under the same stressful conditions?
