The Mile Man
Tumblr media
Mile ∞ tells the story of an old woman, Eve, who cares for the freeway exit/entrance at the end of the world. From her daily routine to a gift from a god, Eve tells of the pieces of ∞ that led her to greatest accomplishment. The story is told in four parts: “The End of the World is a Freeway Exit.”, “The Last Rest Stop on Earth.”, “The Mile Man.”, and “I Am.”
Listen on Youtube & Spotify - https://youtu.be/2URUd8PeAjw?si=t6zP5z9BdChTIJ2y
___________________
“I have adored the Mile Man. He, though not my employer, was my supervisor. My delicacy. I asked him if I may grow the garden; he brought me seed and tools. When I paved the way for his Caravan, he always smiled to me.
Many years ago, in my garden, I installed a microphone. I often speak with the fleeing Travelers and loitering Jumpers, but my memory has slowed and dulled with the wrinkling of my skin—I needed aid to remember. I added transcribing to my nightly routine. It was not very long after the garden’s installation.
The Mile Man had the hardest job; he did so well. He transported so many who kicked and screamed against the beauty of the infinite exit. I hope he knows he was appreciated.
A couple years ago, I planted cameras in my garden too. I added watching to my Saturday routine. I have been much happier avoiding the city. Instead, I look at the pictures on my wall.
The Mile Man worked this interstate forever. He always knew what the Beyond had in store. I wondered, worried, which journey down I-∞ would be his last. I watched the horizon anxious for his Caravan. He always came back. I never suspected his last trip would be a return visit.
∞ learned that the Mile Man had not been emptying certain seats on his Caravan. The Mile Man had been amassing followers: worshippers. Travelers who had a love for the End, or an unsatisfied finale, or a seed of evil.
Why did he not ask me?
Everything changed—my love, my devotion, the structure of the End of the World—when ∞ came in Heavenly Father’s Chariot.
The garden needed tending: I tended it. I did not always catch the Caravan on the horizon, and the Mile Man, and his empty vehicle, waited on the bridge I build.
The road was laid half; the Mile Man pulled in. I felt jealous; someone sat in his passenger seat.  I only noticed the death of the engine as the Chariot halted itself behind the Caravan on. My gawking alerted the Mile Man.
I could not help but stare for ∞ is breathtaking. ∞ is the most gorgeous creation of the Beyond. I could not have known the word beautiful before I met ∞. I felt I needed to bow so where I stood, I did. Her eyes are large; her iris and pupil are one: solid blue. Her sleek black hair is pulled tight to her scalp by a cloud. Studded infinity signs pierce her ears and along her lacrimal are tattoos of the same sign. Her lips plump and painted, or maybe naturally, blue. Her eyelids and cheeks sparkled; radiated.  Her shirt: a heart shape of sparkly blue that revealed her ribs and back. Perfectly shaped; perfectly muscular. Perfect. Impossible to describe. Her wrists adorned with bracelets. The back of her hoop skirt made of clouds. The front was only the wooden cage revealing her shirt a leotard. Blue ballet slipper laced to her knee. Her visible thighs tattooed. A snake curled around one; the Mile ∞ sign on the other. I think I ramble, but I want to record all of her. There are not enough words to describe her in a moment of emotion. To see her smile… oh my…
The Mile Man exited his vehicle with a cordial bow, an arm across his torso. He, a man who I admired, was nothing compared to her. He approached her as an equal. Her arms were crossed.
“Good day, ∞. Do the roses bloom today?”
“Oh, my most loyal, must you make me cross this bridge?”
“You yourself made Forever temporary. Neither expected eternity for me to be on I-∞.”
∞ slid open the Caravan door. Inside sat three creatures more color than person.
“This is not progression. They are revolting.”
“Do not be so harsh; they were once your children.”
“I did not give you your gift to be used for Tragedy.”
The Mile Man grabbed her hands and forced her to face him up and close, ““Listen! You cannot expect me to walk among gods and not fester with ambition!”
He pushed her feet a few steps and her against the Caravan’s walls. I wanted to see what they could do to each other. I ached to see how her perfect physicality and his gorgeous hands could work against each other what pent up passions they held. I ache to know how prior touches had been received.
“What gods do you walk among? Surely, not me.”
“I know that we are more.”
“Patience would give you more. Forever progressed.”
“Forever is a babysitter.”
∞ pushed him away. “and you will be Nothing! Return down the beyond.”
“You shan’t make me,” The Mile Man returned to the van. He removed a trinket; he commanded his worshippers, “They are barely corporeal, and, soon, I will fall the same. Goodbye, ∞.”
“Enjoy what you have theifed from me.”
“Oh, I will, my Heavenly Mother.”
“I do hate when you call me so. We are equals. We always had been.”
“And now?”
“Now it is not so.”
“So, you are everything, and I am Nothing?”
He kissed her. She cut her hand.
“From now on, that is all you will ever be,” She smeared her blood across his face.
On foot, Nothing and his Worshippers walked into the world.
I wonder what is to come.
As ∞ watched his departure stolid and cross, I looked to my garden. I had considered it beautiful, but even the most beautiful rose could not come close to her.
I picked the most appealing fruit I could find, a pear, and as she felt her loss, I proffered it to her.
I gave her my condolences and offered her respite.
She must have been very overcome by the Mile Man’s departure for her offered smile was small.
She said, “Thank you, gentle caretaker. I regret what you just witnessed.”
The kindest creature ate of my fruit. I stared after her chariot with the core in my palm. The seeds of it I planted.
So fair a creature aware of me! So perfect a person smiled at me. I barely folded the road before my time to leave. I hope the pear tree takes. An eternity of her gratitude in my garden!
I have combed the footage, slowed it, sped it, cherished it. I cannot unsee her. I have missed the passing Mimes tonight.
What if ∞ chose me?”

What is cornea and how does it help in vision ?
The cornea is the transparent, dome-shaped front surface of the eye. It covers the iris (the colored part of the eye) and the pupil (the central black circle within the iris) and acts as a protective layer that helps to focus light entering the eye onto the lens and ultimately onto the retina at the back of the eye. The cornea is a crucial component of the eye's optical system and plays a significant role in vision.
Here's how the cornea functions and its role in vision:
Optical Function: The cornea is responsible for refracting (bending) incoming light rays. It is the first structure that light encounters as it enters the eye. The curvature of the cornea helps to bend and focus light rays onto the lens, which further refines the focus onto the retina. The precise bending of light by the cornea and the lens is essential for creating clear and sharp images on the retina.
Protection and Shielding: The cornea acts as a protective barrier for the inner structures of the eye. It shields the delicate lens and retina from dust, debris, and pathogens. Additionally, the cornea is richly innervated with sensory nerves, which makes it highly sensitive to touch and foreign particles. This sensitivity prompts reflex actions such as blinking to protect the eye from potential harm.
Maintaining Vision Quality: The cornea's clarity and transparency are vital for maintaining good vision quality. Any disruptions in the cornea's clarity, such as scars, irregularities, or diseases, can lead to visual impairments like blurriness, distortion, or reduced visual acuity.
Refractive Corrections: The shape of the cornea influences a person's overall vision and refractive errors, such as nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. In certain cases, surgical procedures like LASIK (Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis) can reshape the cornea to correct refractive errors and reduce the need for glasses or contact lenses.
Transplantation: In situations where the cornea is damaged, scarred, or diseased, a corneal transplant (keratoplasty) may be performed. During this procedure, a healthy cornea from a donor is transplanted onto the recipient's eye to restore vision.
Tears and Lubrication: The cornea is kept moist and nourished by the tears produced by the lacrimal glands. Tears help maintain the cornea's smooth surface, prevent drying, and contribute to clear vision.

Everything You Need To Know ABOUT YOUR EYES – Dr. Aanal Shah
Tumblr media
Taking care of your eyes is very crucial in today’s day and age because any frequent eye related issues can lead to hindrance in the day to day lives. To prevent this, it is very important to schedule regular eye check-ups with an Best Eye Doctor in vadodara and avoid further complications. You don’t have to be an eye doctor to realise how important it is to keep your eyes healthy. However, as you age and other factors affect your vision, it can be difficult to know where to turn for help. As an experienced eye specialist, Dr. Aanal Shah explains that eyes being a complex organ can undergo numerous issues and discomfort which should be addressed at proper time by consulting an eye doctor.
How do your eyes work?
Eyes are a complex organ that allows us to see and interpret the world around us. It is made up of several parts, including the cornea, iris, pupil, sclera, lens, retina, optic nerve, conjunctiva, eyelids, eyelashes, tear ducts, and vitreous humor.
The eye works by focusing light onto the retina, which is the inner lining of the eye that contains photoreceptors (cells that detect light) and other nerve cells that help to process and interpret the visual information that is received. The retina is useful in sending this processed information to the brain through the optic nerve.
The iris, which is the coloured part of the eye, controls the size of the pupil, which is the opening in the center of the iris that allows light to enter the eye. The pupil gets smaller in bright light to reduce the amount of light entering the eye, and it gets larger in dim light to allow more light to enter the eye.
The lens is a clear structure which is present inside the eye which can help to focus light onto the retina. The shape of the lens can change to help the eye focus on objects at different distances. This is called accommodation.
The cornea can be described as a clear, dome-shaped surface covering the front of the eye and helps in focusing light. It is made up of layers of cells and is responsible for about two-thirds of the eye’s focusing power.
The sclera is the white, outer layer of the eye that helps to protect and support the eye. It is made up of tough, fibrous tissue and is the part of the eye that you can see when you look at someone’s eye.
The conjunctiva is a thin, transparent layer of tissue that covers the front of the eye and the inside of the eyelids. It helps to keep the eye moist and protects it from dust and other foreign particles.
The eyelids are the movable folds of skin that cover and protect the front of the eye. They also help to spread tears over the surface of the eye to keep it moist.
The eyelashes are the hairs that grow along the edge of the eyelids and help to protect the eyes from dust and other foreign particles.
The tear ducts are the small openings in the corners of the eyelids that allow tears to drain from the eye. Tears are produced by the lacrimal gland and help to keep the eye moist and clean.
The vitreous humor is a clear, jelly-like substance that fills the space between the lens and the retina and helps to maintain the shape of the eye. It is made up of water and collagen fibers and is contained within the vitreous chamber of the eye.
Conditions affecting the EYES
There are many different issues that can affect the health and function of the eyes. Some common eye problems include:
Diabetic Retinopathy and Hypertensive Retinopathy
These are two types of eye conditions that can affect people with diabetes and high blood pressure, respectively.
Diabetic retinopathy is a condition that occurs when high blood sugar levels cause damage to the blood vessels in the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. This damage can lead to changes in vision, such as blurriness, floaters, and difficulty seeing at night. In severe cases, diabetic retinopathy can cause vision loss. It is the most common cause of blindness in people with diabetes.
High blood pressure can also damage the retina’s blood vessels over time, limiting its function and putting pressure on the optic nerve, resulting in vision problems.
Both diabetic retinopathy and hypertensive retinopathy can be treated with medications, laser surgery, or traditional surgery, depending on the severity of the condition. It is important for people with diabetes and high blood pressure to have regular eye exams to detect these conditions early and to receive appropriate treatment.
Retinal Tears and Detachments:
Retinal tears and detachments are two types of eye conditions that can cause vision loss. If you experience any symptoms of a retinal tear or detachment, it is important to seek medical attention from an expert immediately. Dr Aanal Shah is considered an expert retina specialist in Vadodara with years of experience.
A retinal tear is a tear or hole in the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. Retinal tears can be caused by trauma to the eye, such as a blow to the head or a sports injury, or by other factors, such as aging or the use of certain medications. Symptoms of a retinal tear can include floaters, flashes of light, and a curtain-like veil over part of the field of vision. It is crucial to not leave a retinal tear untreated, as it can lead to a retinal detachment.
A retinal detachment can be described as a separation of the retina from the back of the eye. It can be caused by a retinal tear or by other factors, such as trauma, inflammation, or changes in the vitreous humor (the clear, jelly-like substance that fills the space between the lens and the retina). Symptoms of a retinal detachment can include floaters, flashes of light, a sudden increase in floaters, or a shadow or curtain over part of the field of vision. Retinal detachments can cause vision loss if left untreated.
Both retinal tears and detachments can be treated with surgery to repair the retina and prevent vision loss.
Complicated Cataracts And Glaucoma
Cataracts are a common eye condition that occurs when the lens of the eye becomes cloudy, which can cause vision to become blurry or hazy. Cataracts are most commonly observed in older adults, but they can occur at any age. Complicated cataracts are cataracts that are more difficult to treat due to factors such as the location or size of the cataract, the presence of other eye conditions, or the presence of medical conditions that make surgery more risky.
Treatment for cataracts usually involves surgery to remove the clouded lens and replace it with a clear artificial lens. Complicated cataracts may require more advanced surgical techniques or specialized equipment to remove and may also involve additional steps to address any underlying conditions.
Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that can damage the optic nerve and lead to vision loss. It is usually caused by high pressure within the eye, but it can also occur as a result of other factors, such as inflammation or injury. Complicated glaucoma refers to glaucoma that is difficult to treat due to factors such as the severity of the condition, the presence of other eye conditions, or the presence of medical conditions that make surgery riskier.
Treatment for glaucoma can include medications, laser surgery, or traditional surgery to lower eye pressure and prevent further damage to the optic nerve. Complicated glaucoma may require more advanced surgical techniques or specialized equipment and may also involve additional steps to address any underlying conditions.
Both complicated cataracts and glaucoma can cause serious vision problems if left untreated, so it is important to seek medical attention from the eye specialist at Vadodara if you experience any changes in your vision or eye health.
Macular degeneration:
Macular degeneration is a condition that affects the center of the retina (the macula) and can cause vision loss. It is most common in older adults and is usually caused by age-related changes in the retina. There is no cure for macular degeneration, but treatments are available to slow its progression and help to preserve vision. You need to remain under the guidance of a retina specialist to keep a check on the condition.
Refractive errors:
These are problems with the way the eye focuses light, which can cause blurred vision. Common refractive errors include near-sightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. With proper consultation from an expert eye doctor these problems can be addressed with eyeglasses, contact lenses, or surgery.
Eye infections
They are another type of eye condition that can cause inflammation and other symptoms. Eye infections can be caused by viruses, bacteria, or other microorganisms and can affect different parts of the eye, including the conjunctiva, cornea, and interior of the eye. Common symptoms of eye infections include redness, itching, discharge, and pain. Eye infections can often be treated with medications, such as antibiotics or antivirals.
Ocular Tumours:
Ocular tumours are abnormal growths that can occur in or around the eye. They can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous) and can affect different parts of the eye, including the conjunctiva, iris, sclera, and retina. It is still important to have any unusual changes in your vision or eye health evaluated by an expert eye doctor.
Symptoms of ocular tumours can vary depending on the type and location of the tumour, but may include vision changes, eye pain, redness, swelling, and abnormal pupil shape. Ocular tumours can cause vision loss if left untreated, so it is important to consult an eye specialist,  if you experience any unusual changes in your vision or eye health.
Ocular tumours are usually diagnosed through a combination of eye exams, imaging tests (such as an ultrasound or CT scan), and biopsies (tests that involve removing a sample of tissue for examination). Treatment for ocular tumours can include medications, surgery, and/or radiation therapy, depending on the type and stage of the tumour.
It is important to note that ocular tumours are relatively rare and most people with eye growths do not have cancer.
Eye trauma:
It refers to any injury to the eye or surrounding structures, such as the eyelids or orbit (the bony socket that holds the eye in place). Eye trauma can range from mild to severe and can be caused by a variety of factors, such as falls, sports injuries, accidents, and assaults.
If you think you or someone else has suffered an eye injury, it is important to seek medical attention immediately. Eye injuries can be serious and can cause long-term vision problems if not treated promptly. If you are unable to see a healthcare provider right away, you can protect the eye by covering it with a clean, damp cloth or bandage and seeking medical care as soon as possible. Do not try to remove any foreign objects from the eye, as this can cause further injury.

I'm like weird sometimes because I met a person years back on undertale amino and idolized them so hard they're still in my memory now. She went by dub vanilla berry, hezeru, cherrumilk, and I think more and had art reminiscent of tearzah and reinagoth. She was accused of tracing at some point but she quickly detached herself from it and was genuinely super talented because she made very beautiful and cutesy art. She also had a cutesy persona online and had a lot of smaller artists or just kids on amino worship her, as well as having a lot of friends all around. I was like a really big fan, I thought she was adorable and snarky and fun, and I loved her art and the persona she put out and always loved seeing her progress, like she was who I wanted to be at that time. And we came in contact at some point and turned out she was a fan of me and my art as well, I don't know if she was just saying it but she was so sweet and I'm weak against that so I just chose to believe it. And I was in a group chat with her and some of her other cutesy friends, and I'm I remembered drawing some art for her and just enjoying talking with her. She sent blurry or dark pictures of herself a couple times and she was someone who loved tea and cakes and anything adorable and I think I heard someone call her Misha at some point. She released speedpaints at some point after rebranding to hezeru and I remember being amazed at her using firealpaca for art and having a cute link interface with cat or bunny icons, as well as using super thing lines for her line art. Then some time later she left a mean comment on another person's wall, it was some drama about people grinding to follow as many people as possible to raise their level and get more followers and be on the community leaderboards, and dub believed that artists and content creators deserved the spot more than someone just following a bunch of people (amino drama lol) and so she was mean about it which got her suspended, after which she either left completely or was banned (I don't really remember). then i found her on insta and her name was cherrumilk with a slightly changed art style and it was super sparkly and pretty and anime-like and I adored it, she was taking requests so I asked about it and.. well she made a drawing of my persona at the time, and mind you it was glorious, it was beautiful, it's still one of my favorite drawings I've ever received because there's just something about it, I was extremely overjoyed and even got it by email. She did abandon her instagram account, and her boyfriend at the time posted on amino a huge drawing with different people's ocs who were all dub's friends, she said she spent several days working on it and I was also in it! It was so so cute. Anyways then she just vanished, poof, gone! Another artist with a similar vibe appeared some time later, and a lot of people thought it was her, but we never got any confirmation on that, and the art was different (though dub was always great at doing different art styles). So yeah, I haven't heard from her or seen her in years, all that remains is the art of hers I have saved or got, and a dead amino community dedicated to her. For some reason I still miss her, or the idea of her, and the story of her existence in my life will probably stay forever in some capacity.
I'll probably never meet her again, or at least I won't know it's her, and I probably also won't know anyone who was close to her. All I can say is that she was a big part of my life at some point where she knew it or not, and that she made me feel more confident about myself and my personality, as well as indirectly influencing my passion and art progress. She may never know it but she was a key part of me becoming who I am today, albeit I suppose that sounds weird. Either way, I'll probably never get any closure, and this is extremely messy as I don't remember the exact timeline and didn't disclose all the details, but I just wanted to throw it out there.
Duh, hezeru, cherru.. if you're there, know that you were a big inspiration, a nice friend, and a weirdly impactful presence in my life. And if any of you knew her if remember something from that era, please talk to me <3

Especially thinking about Lacrime and Iris. And sort of Irene as well.
Lacrime is an Addams Family oc who's a huge yandere who loves killing the people she's in love with because she likes the feeling of mourning and the romance of death.
Iris is a preteen temporalmancer who's been homeschooled by her archeologist father.
And Irene is a tween vampire who lives with her vampire bassist dad and wants to be an artist someday

Eye Care Tablets-extremely complicated organs
The eyes care tablets are extremely complicated organs. Many variables must come together to achieve a clear picture. Continue reading to learn about common eye issues and the structure of the eye.
Tumblr media
Retinal designs
Detail is one of the main parts of the eye. Issues or breakdowns in any piece of the eye cause a few normal eye sicknesses.
Cornea
The cornea is a straightforward tissue layer that assists center with lighting at the front of the eye.
The channels of tears
The tear channel openings are situated in the upper and lower eyelids close to the inward corner of each eye. The lacrimal organ, then again, secretes tears from the upper eyelid to the outer layer of the eyeball. Accordingly, tears keep the cornea damp and clear of particles. The tear channels are answerable for eliminating tears.
Iris and understudy
The iris is the eye's brilliant part. The understudy, or the opening in the focal point of the eye, is constrained by an assortment of muscles. The iris controls how much light entering the understudy.
The retina and the focal point
The understudy is covered behind the focal point. It directs light to the retina, which is situated toward the rear of the eyeball and contains light-delicate cells. Moreover, the retina changes over pictures into electrical motivations that are sent to the optic nerve.
Optical nerve
Behind the eye, the optic nerve is a thick heap of nerve strands. It passes information from the retina on to the mind.
Incorporated Guard and Upkeep of the Eye
Without the help of individuals, those extraordinary designs could generally not work. The foreheads, eyelids, and lashes all team up to keep garbage out of our eyes. Flickering, then again, reestablishes and keeps up with the tear film by cleaning up trash and different debasements, while an arrangement of organs and pipes recharges and keeps up with the tear film.
Keeping Your Eyes with everything looking great
We will be constantly captivated by how these designs and cycles cooperate to make our visual experience, yet all of this intricacy recommends that anything might turn out badly. This is where, for instance, your eye specialist comes in! Keep up with your normal eye assessments and inform us assuming your visual perception changes.
Supplement that care your eyes
Plant-based eye care tablets from Health Veda Organics help restore eye health and protect against blue light exposure. Aids, on the other hand, helps with visual function and free radical neutralization.

One of the Bad Ones
From a little thought of mine <3
Masterlist
Pairing: (platonic) female!oc & crosshair
TW: sad/depressing thoughts, a little bit of human experimentation, self-depreciation, PTSD
Word count: 1895
QUICK NOTE: this is a concept with my oc Dain and her (platonic) relationship with Crosshair. Dain is a chiss jedi who hates the republic. She was the TechnoUnion's test subject years before Echo got there. She was rescued by the Batch and Co. when they went to rescue Echo. If you want more details, let me know!
-
There were good days and bad days for Dain. This day would be one of the bad ones.
Hunter and Wrecker were getting some much-needed rest, recovering from the day before. Tech was messing with a small part of the hyperdrive in his bunk with Echo helping, not getting the rest they needed. That left Dain piloting through the ridiculous amount of traffic on Pasaana, their new mission destination, with Crosshair as her co-pilot. A content silence consumed the ship, only Tech’s fiddling with a blow torch, Hunter and Wrecker’s soft snores, and the clicking of controls filling the cramped space.
Dain was consumed whole by her usual track of mind. The horrors of Skako were always her first destination. It was hard not to think about it, she was there for years. She constantly had to rhyme off the different things she could see, focus on the light reflecting and refracting around the ship, squeeze her eyes shut and dive into the life forces of her crewmates to bring her back from the fluorescent-lit laboratories and chilling surgical tables. Her limbs disobeying her commands as her captures messed mercilessly with her eyes. She could feel the tiniest of needles embedded in her iris, the sorry excuse for a numbing agent being injected.
She could still feel the helplessness that she constantly felt every second she was conscious on Skako. The bacta tube she was confined in when the surgeons needed a break still haunted her. Her long hair frail and coarse flowing like a separate entity, her oxygen mask so tight around her face practically another body part. She felt like she was being slowly and carefully pulled back to it, she could feel the warmth of the liquid seeping up her calves and past her knees, almost above her waist.
“You okay?”
Those few words violently pulled her out of the tank she was sinking into.
She didn’t feel the little drops staining her cheeks. Of course she wouldn’t, she was too messed up to feel the things that made her organic. She saw a sparkling on her cheeks refracting the light of the speeders and pods held up in front of her.
Dain quickly wiped them away. “I don’t know what you’re referring to.”
“Simple question,” he said, his usual snark present.
“I am perfectly adequate; I don’t know where you’re getting your ideas from.”
“Your bullshit doesn’t fool me,” Crosshair sighed.
Dain whipped her head around to his dead serious face gazing out at the fully stopped highway. “I beg your pardon? I am not, as you say, bullshitting.”
“You’re suffering. You really think this act is convincing?”
She was perplexed.
“Don’t look so surprised.” He went back to prepping the ship from its parked mode to move a couple inches further.
Dain did her part in guiding the ship the few little inches. They stayed in silence for quite a while, Dain trying to stay afloat by following the train of speeders and pods zig and zagging across miles and miles towards the capital city. Crosshair had propped a tiny black book on his raised knee, sketching away like he always did when he had extra time.
“How could you tell?”
Cross continued with his pen. “Hm?”
“How could you tell?” Dain asked a little louder.
“Well crying doesn’t cover anything up,” he gestured with his pen to her newly wet cheeks.
She quickly went to work wiping them dry, the force drawing a deeper blue to her skin. She dropped her hands in her lap in defeat, her shoulders sagging. “I can’t control it.”
“Nothing special.”
“I misspoke. I can’t feel it.”
Crosshair seeded his sketching of the pods and speeders.
“I remember what lacrimal feels like, seeping from the tear ducts,” she continued. “But I just... I don’t function like that anymore.”
He didn’t know what to say. What do you say to such a horrific fact? What did they do to you?
“I, um, overshared. Apologies.”
“No,” he objected. “It’s, uh, fine.”
Dain sunk into her seat, pulling her knees up to her eyes instinctually. Making herself as small as possible eased a little itch in the back of her mind.
She was a leader before all of this, she didn’t want to shy away into a corner and fade away in her own shadow. She stood with purpose and commanded respect. She was a decorated soldier, higher in rank than most Jedi. She had a family who she loved and who loved her. She depended on the Wolffe Pack as much as they depended on her. She was one of them.
She held a burning passion against the Republic. She fought to someday end the war so she could help burn it down and build something better in its ashes. Something that didn’t negotiate living being's lives like they were poker chips to be tossed in a pot.
It was all gone. It disappeared. She only wanted to melt into the soil, maybe help the earth flourish with trees and wildlife beside a rushing river. She didn’t hold a passion for anything she used to. She wasn’t the leader she needed to be, she didn’t have a family, she didn’t have anything to fuel her anymore. She was empty and purposeless. Maybe I’m better off melting into the earth.
“Here.”
Crosshair tossed the little black book and the pen to Dain, landing in the space between the armrest and herself. Dain stared at it for a moment, unsure of what he was playing at.
She slowly unfurled herself, her feet setting on the floor without a sound and her nimble hands bringing the book and pen to her lap.
“You can’t stay in there forever, you know. It’ll drive you insane,” he started.
Dain’s shoulders deflated. “I know.”
“It’s impossible.”
She eyed him wearily. And I thought this was going to be a pep talk.
“You just have to escape long enough.”
She stayed silent and a small bit of intrigue nipped at her fingers.
“Try it,” he gestured to the open landscape in front of them.
Dain shimmied to the edge of her seat to prop the book to a blank page against the dash in a free spot of any controls.
“Any requests?” She asked without an ounce of cheek in her words, only what seemed to be defeat.
“Nothing you can remember.”
She looked around the desert in front of her. Only a city that looked like a birdbath all those miles and miles away and the pods and speeders backed up were to see. Nothing she could see really sparked interest in her, nothing ever did anymore.
Just as she was about to toss the book back, she found her subject. A little patch of orangey clouds against the scorching sun. The entire sky was filled with them, the light bouncing off every fluffy edge and casting long shadows, but this patch’s edges were sharply defined and outlined against the glowing of the sun. There was no double meaning, no metaphor she could attach to it. Nothing sad to see in the clouds, it just looked graceful and meaningless.
She scribbled away on a page, not having enough energy to criticize her chicken scratch. She remembered a piece of advice from someone she hadn’t thought about for what felt like decades. You always get caught up in what you think you’re seeing, not what’s actually in front of you. Exasperated laughter echoed in the aftermath.
She proceeded with that in mind, trying to stay out of her head and only taking what was in front of her to transfer messily onto the textured parchment.
Crosshair was the smallest bit surprised the broken woman in front of him kept sketching away for more than five minutes. He half expected her to toss it back and retreat into whatever hell her mind had become.
He didn’t believe it when Anakin told the rescue team on Skako that it was Force Marshel Dain Lec in the bacta tank, floating eerily like a dead specimen with a tight black shirt and shorts that gave away how much she looked like a dead, decaying skeleton.
She was basically a myth in the GAR. Force Marshel Lec was one of the most decorated soldiers in history; her battle plans and strategies were studied by captains, commanders, and generals. The Bad Batch admired her work, it was exactly their style of getting things done. But she only worked with Commander Wolffe and his battalion, she didn’t ever grace the rest of the GAR with her presence. The fact that she was one of the only Chiss serving the Republic only added to the mystery of Dain Lec.
But it wasn’t just her bat shit crazy plans and strategies that she was known for, her humanity and empathy were only dreamed of. The regs all had their fair share of generals who hated them for existing, some even had the unfortunate fate of serving under Krell, but the Wolffe pack only spread the word of her immense empathy and compassion. Ruthlessness and compassion never went hand in hand, but somehow the universe broke logic and made Force Marshel Lec.
Crosshair couldn’t put the myth to the face. Sitting beside him, still sketching away on the consul, was a shrivelled and washed-out woman who couldn’t feel her own tears. Granted, it had only been a few months of her being dumped on them along with Echo, and she hadn’t been in the thick of the action yet, only drawing up plans and flying the ship, but he couldn’t imagine what else an escaped science experiment could do.
“You underestimate my abilities a staggering amount, Crosshair,” Dain’s permanently shaky voice broke his thoughts and sent him into a panic.
His thoughts staggered. “You- you-”
“Force users can’t read other beings' thoughts, but I can most certainly piece together the ones that float by.”
Crosshair thought someone raised the temperature in the ship by 20 degrees.
“I... I...”
“I’ve made the best snipper in the GAR speechless,” a small smile spread across her lips. “It’s perfectly fine, no ill will befalls this situation. I’ve endured far worse than the judgement of others.”
He didn’t know what to say. Again. He felt embarrassed over anything, over the fact he’d stoop to such lows. Why was he like this? Why did he have to point out the worst in people who were already suffering enough? Was it some kind of ego thing? Was he that insecure?
Dain tossed the book and pen back to Cross, making him jump. She looked at him intently, trying to catch his gaze that was anywhere but on Dain.
“Cross.”
He sighed and met her foggy crimson eyes. It didn’t seem like a confrontation. She brought her knees up to her chest again and fidgeted with something in her lap. How could she be considered a leader? Stop it.
Her gaze turned to one of sympathy. Pity.
“You should consider your own advice, you really think this act is convincing?”
He scoffed and leaned back against the co-pilot's seat, turning his attention to the backed-up traffic.
She sighed deeply, like the weight of the world was getting heavier with each conversation they had. “I’m still here, even if everyone here doesn't want me to be.”

Tuttavia, indie come etichetta è in realtà molto limitante.

Astonishing flames - Akaashi Keiji
Tumblr media
Summary: Escaping into the night to cleanse your mind and rest your soul, leaves you with the most chaotic mind and restless soul. Warnings: None Word count: 953 Date: The ninth of August, 2020
Tumblr media
You feel the thick smoke reaching your lungs, coughs trying to climb up your throat, finding a way to dispose of the enormous amount of carbon dioxide.
The heat that traced over your skin ever so slightly managed to break the armour apart, the thick layer of muscles finally seeing the starry night sky.
Tonight would've been a beautiful night to climb your rooftop and sit on it until you'd fall asleep underneath the twinkling stars. There was no doubt about the fact that you'd call your boyfriend to savour the beautiful sight together, fingers intertwined and a peaceful bubble forming around you.
But the universe wouldn't let you have that.
Instead of giving you something beautiful, it gave you a night to never forget, a night to never get over and a night to be burned in your brain forever.
Just moments ago, you were walking home from a small one-in-the-morning grocery trip to fuel your body. With a plastic bag filled with a strawberry milkshake and a bag of sour worms, you walked back home, a content smile plastered on your lips.
It felt comforting, too comforting.
It was at that very moment that you saw the flashing red and blue lights in the corner of your eyes. Three police cars darted past you, followed by two fire trucks and a single ambulance car.
It was an odd occurrence. Normally, your city, Niijuku, was a peaceful one. There rarely were cases where this much help was needed. So, to say the least, this was a sight you'd simply not see that often.
Coming closer to your house, the smell of burned wood enrolled into your nose, the smell intoxicating.
And when you turned around the last corner, you finally understood why.
The place you would always go to after an exhausting day of school, the place you would always go to wrap your arms around your mother, the place where you would run after you little sibling after they had stolen one of your shirts again, the place you always called home,
was surrounded by nothing more than flames.
The building burned with colours you never thought it would. With every second passing by, every extra flame that got developed, you knew another of your possessions burned away.
A sudden chill swept through your limbs as if a cold wind cut right through you. You stared in disbelief to the burning building, knees going out as you fell right on top of the concrete that was underneath your feet just a second ago.
"No, no, no.." Your eyes suddenly allowed a lot more light to fall onto your iris, the pupil in the middle of the organ growing smaller. Your brain couldn't comprehend the scene in front of you, refusing to believe this was happening to you.
The flames got reflected by your eyes, your body still stuck to the ground as you watched the firefighters enter the building.
It's at that moment that you realise your family is still inside, bodies probably burning up while they try to fight their way out.
The thought triggers your fight or flight, body suddenly feeling as light as a feather as you bold forward, head empty.
Two pair of arms wrap around your upper arms just when you're about to enter the burning mess.
"Let me go!" You screech out, fighting off the strong grip. "My family! My family is inside of there!"
Your sight gets blurry, thick, salty tears spilling over the edge of your eyelids as the flames all become one big blur.
"Ma'am, we need you to calm down and take a few steps back," you can barely make out of the voices, mind still hazy, clouded. "Our men are trying to save your family."
People from around the neighbourhood are running towards the fire, a sight that looks like a bonfire from across the street. They watch the flames destroy a simple building. To them, it's just a simple building. Nothing more than a simple building.
They watch it like it's on TV, not your house, not the place that was your home.
And then you see them, your mom, dad and little sister.
Your dad is coughing, his lungs finally catching a glimpse of the fresh amount of oxygen. Your mom looks much weaker. Her body needs two strong men to keep her up. And then your little sister, she seems mortified. The difference in skin colour on your dad looks much bigger than your sister's, indicating that he probably took her into protection to keep the flames from kissing her skin.
"Y/n!" The voice is loud, a couple of octaves louder than usual.
You didn't want him to see you like this: vulnerable, weak, angry and scared.
But there was no escaping from him once he wrapped his arms around your trembling body from behind.
His arms made you feel secure, better.
"Keiji," you whispered out, tears leaking out of the lacrimal. Your eyes tried to follow the bodies of your loved ones, all of the sound around you falling on deaf ears.
"I was just- I went to.. I came back and-" You tried. You really did. But there were no proper sentences flowing out like a normal, functioning human body could do.
"It's okay, they're gonna be okay." It was a mere thought, a guess, and yet you took his words as the truth. In this very moment, there was no difference between your imagination and reality. The two worlds seemed to mix, inseparable.
He could say you were purple, even though you could see your own skin colour through your eyes, and you'd still believe his word.
Because he was him, Akaashi Keiji.

Once upon a time, @shadsiethewriter suggested I do an analysis of Hordak’s eyes. Voila: this is that analysis!
I’m going to attempt an anatomical assessment here, and as such y’all will have to take it with a massive tablespoon of salt. Out of all of Hordak’s anatomical curiosities, his eyes are the one I personally interpret as least akin to ours and find the most difficult to make any sort of even semi-informed judgments of. So. Take this as you will.
Tumblr media
First and foremost: a quick rundown of what the typical vertebrate eyeball consists of when looked at from the front: the clear cornea, white sclera, colored iris, and black pupil. The cornea is the clear “dome” over our iris and pupil, allowing light to pass through it. The sclera is the “white” of the eye and consists of fibrous tissue, maintaining ocular globe structure. The iris is the pigmented tissue that controls pupil size, while the pupil is essentially a hole that allows light in. Light passes through the pupil, gets focused by the lens, and lands on the light-sensitive cells of the retina, which send the input information to the brain via the optic nerve.
In addition to the eye itself, there are also periocular structures to consider: the eyelids, various glands, eye muscles, etc. In many animals, there is also the nictitating membrane (the third eyelid).
There’s a whole bunch of fancy physics involved in vision, and the whole setup is essentially a biological camera, but we won’t get into that here. We’re just going to focus on what we need to. Same with the periocular structures: I’ll discuss these where pertinent to Hordak’s anatomy.
Tumblr media
Now, I’m not actually going to start with Hordak’s eyes. I’m going to start with Horde Prime’s. Why? Because Horde Prime is, as far as we know, a sort of “template” for Hordak (made him “in his image” and all that, dontcha know), so looking at his eyes as a sort of comparison may give us insight into Hordak’s own ocular anatomy. Plus, Prime’s eyes actually do appear to be far more like our own; this again allows for better comparison when noting how Hordak’s are not.
Tumblr media
Horde Prime has green eyes with no visually apparent sclera, likely two eyelids, and a fringe of very pretty eyelashes on his “main” eyes. His lids and perioribital region feature light grey pigmentation that is either natural markings or makeup.
let’s be real it’s makeup
Other than their number, there is nothing particularly odd about Horde Prime’s eyes when compared to various vertebrates. While the lack of visible sclera is strange for a human, it is par for the course for many vertebrates we are familiar with.
Tumblr media
Cats, for example, have irises that are quite large and fill most of the space between open eyelids, making it appear as if they have no “white of the eye” (Catra’s eyes are actually like this). This is the case with a huge number of vertebrate animals we’re all familiar with. Most of them, I think, actually.
Prime’s vertical pupils are commonly seen in the natural world, though on Earth, they tend to be found in ambush hunters that are active both day and night, such as cats and foxes. Prime is... probably not an ambush hunter? I hope? Most likely, vertical slit pupils were used in his design because, culturally, they tend to be associated with inhuman, evil-looking creatures. Which has nothing to do with the biology, of course, so we won’t really go into it. Let’s instead assume that his pupils are as they are either due to previous evolutionary history or because he personally thinks it looks intimidating.
All in all, Horde Prime has eyes that appear, at least at this point in the story, very biologically normal. They feature all of the external parts that are needed for vision. Save for the lack of visible sclera and the slit pupils, they appear quite human.
Let’s assess Hordak’s eyes now.  Similarities first, just to get them out of the way.
Tumblr media
Hordak has eyelids, just as we do. We see them whenever he blinks, and we really see them when he suffers a syncopal event in season three. It is difficult to ascertain the nature of his eyelashes because of the black pigmentation in his periorbital region (assumed to be makeup), but there’s no reason to think that they don’t exist. they are probably also very pretty
Tumblr media
Hordak also has lacrimal glands, or some sort of similar structures, because he is able to produce tears in response to strong emotion. Lacrimal glands produce the aqueous portion of the tear film in many mammals, serving to lubricate the eyes; in humans, and in Hordak, tears are also produced due to strong emotions, generally joy or grief.
With the presence of lacrimal glands or similar in Hordak, one may assume that a whole lacrimal apparatus is present, meaning existence of the lacrimal puncta and canals that typically drain tears from the eyes to the nose (AKA the reason your nose runs when you cry). This is not something that would be readily visible, but given the apparent existence of typical tears, it’s not far-fetched.
Tumblr media
With the similarities out of the way, we can now focus on the very obvious differences. Right off the bat, we can see one that is very important in terms of Hordak’s actual vision: he has no pupils. Now, in normal Earth-vertebrate terms, one cannot see if one has no pupils. If there is no pupil, there is no way for light to enter the eye and hit the retina, so pupils need to be present.
There are a few possible ways Hordak might be able to see “without” pupils. One way, and the way that I think is most canonically likely, is that his eyes are cybernetic in nature and thus not bound by the anatomical rules our eyes are bound by. This would also account for their glow (something Horde Prime interestingly seems to lack) and their ability to have their color changed during Hordak’s reformatting.
Beyond suggesting this, I can’t say much more about it; any cybernetic enhancement goes far beyond my anatomical knowledge and lands firmly in the realm of science fiction. With cybernetics in play, anything could be going on with his eyes. So, we’ll just have to leave it at that.
A more biological possibility is that Hordak's eyes are actually all-pupil, and that what he is lacking is the iris. This is actually a condition some humans have, termed aniridia. It is usually a congenital issue but can occasionally arise due to ocular trauma. Now, in humans, this is an abnormality that negatively affects vision and can cause other eye problems, but for Horde clones like Hordak, this might just be what their eyes are like. A lack of related issues may be due again to cybernetic enhancement or due to alien anatomy we are not privy to. Same for the color: humans with aniridia have all-black eyes, but light reflected or created at the back of Hordak’s eye may be responsible for a red color in an “all-pupil” eye.
Tumblr media
A final possibility I can think of is that there is a pupil, but we can’t see it well  because Hordak’s eyes are constantly covered by a nictitating membrane. This “third eyelid” is present in many vertebrates (your cats and dogs have them, FYI) and is generally used to protect the eye while still maintaining vision. A transparent eyelid, essentially. Now, I think this is highly unlikely to be part of Hordak’s anatomy, because we never see him blink like this, but it’s still a thing that exists and might provide a fun headcanon for some of you, so I’m mentioning it.
Besides the lack of pupil, the other two differences I can note (as briefly mentioned) are the glow and the involuntary color change. While both are possible biologically (rapid color change and bioluminescence are both very present in the animal word), given the sudden change in Hordak’s eyes as a result of his reformatting, I would have to hypothesize that these factors are likely cybernetic in nature.
Now, biology aside, let’s take a moment to assess the symbolism and meaning behind Hordak’s eyes, namely in terms of color and lack of pupil.
Tumblr media
Horde Prime and obedient, active clones both have green eyes, and Hordak’s eyes turn green when he is reformatted, supposedly returning to a sort of “baseline” state. My personal interpretation of this is that Hordak’s eye color is an indicator of functionality: when he is labeled “defective,” his eye color is altered to reflect his new status. Rather than his defect including being “born” with red eyes, his eyes are turned red to inform everyone around him that his defect exists and that he has effectively been rejected. The glow, present when his eyes are red but oddly absent when they’re green, may also carry the purpose of making Hordak more noticeable; marking him as “dangerous,” so to speak. Of course, we don’t have conclusive proof of this at this point, but it seems logical. Certainly, Horde Prime seems capable of dictating what color Hordak’s eyes are, rather than it being some sort of uncontrollable attribute. This makes it more likely, to me, that the color is an intentional thing meant to carry a message.

Now, the lack of pupils is even more interesting because, while Hordak and the clones don’t have them, Horde Prime does. What could this mean? Well, in my experience, creatures portrayed without pupils are often meant to be interpreted as more “alien” by the audience. Less human. Less intelligent. Perhaps even mindless. The reason for this is instinctive, I think: pupils allow us to see where an individual is looking, to follow their gaze, to make intentional eye contact. Without them, it might be difficult to interpret a creature’s expressions and easily connect with them. It puts up a mental barrier, you see? Takes away some sense of intelligence and sentience from a creature. Makes it look blank.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Horde Prime did this on purpose: manufactured his clones without pupils so that they appeared less like “people,” whereas he has pupils and is thus able to connect more readily with other sentient species. He’s the person; the clones are not.
And that’s that, I think. Obviously take all the anatomy with that heaping tablespoon of salt; I’m willing to bet that much of how Hordak’s eyes work is down to alien cybernetic nonsense. But that said, it’s still fun to muse about, isn’t it? And the potential symbolism is interesting, anatomy aside!
