Hallo! Could I get Kai Satou, Rio Ranger, and Midori's reactions (separately) to having their own personal (gender neutral) simp... Kai Satou

I'll be honest with you, Kai is kinda dense

He won't realize you're simping for him until someone (likely Sara) points out your behavior to him

He's not experienced with romantic affairs at all so someone is gonna have to spell it out for him

He doesn't really take note of your staring or how flustered you appear to be when you're around him

So yeah, he's clueless as hell

But once Sara points your behavior out to him, he'll be the first to approach you about it

Though he doesn't show it, he's secretly overjoyed that someone feels the way you do about him

Once he knows, he won't stop taking notice of your behavior even after you two are in a relationship

It makes him feel so warm inside seeing you sneaking glances at him and constantly looking for excuses to be near him

How can he not feel joyful when you're looking at him like that? How can he not crack the smallest of smiles when he sees how flustered you get as he holds your hand?

He also loves your acts of service, it being his love language.

One day, you tried cooking something for him to thank him for always feeding you good food, but you ended up screwing it up and serving him some sad steak. Even if your cooking failed, it certainly didn't fail to make this man overjoyed that you'd tried to share his passion with him, so he ended up eating the whole plate for you.

Though, as happy as he was, he now prefers you stay out of the kitchen and let him do the cooking.

He loves how much you love him, and to be honest he loves you just as much. It shows in his smiles reserved for your eyes only and how he'd do anything for you just as you'd do anything for him.

Rio Ranger

This one's another dense one, but not in the same way that Kai is

While Kai is clueless, Rio is confused

Why do you keep staring at him? Why do you get so stuttery and blushy when he's around? Why do you seem to be looking for excuses to be near him? He's so confused by your odd behavior

He's so used to being disliked and feared that he just doesn't get why you seem to want to be around him.

At first, he hates it. He hates the way you ogle him from afar. He hates how you seem to always be in the same room as him. He hates how you're not fearful of him like everyone else is. Why aren't you afraid of him? You should be!

That's pretty much his thought process at first.

Over time, he slowly starts to get used to your behavior, though that won't stop him from trying to push you away. He still thinks you're weird.

One day, however, you seem to be missing, and he feels strangely empty without you around. He's confused. He doesn't like you, so why is he wondering about if you're alright or not?

He would rather die than admit to anyone, even himself, that he was actually worried about you.

The next day you show back up, following him around once more after you had spent the day resting due to illness.

Why is he...relieved to see you?

He doesn't like you, he knows this. So why is he relieved that you're back with your strange antics?

He doesn't know it yet, but he's become attached to you. He's come to enjoy the way you look at him and follow him around. He's come to adore how you seem to be willing to do anything for him.

He does his best to repress those feelings. No, he doesn't like you at all. In fact, he hates you. He hates the way it makes him feel when he catches you staring at him like he hung the stars in the sky. He hates the warmth in his chest when you get a little too close. He definitely hates when you give him little charms and trinkets.

Maybe one day he'll come to realize how absolutely smitten he is with you.

Pairing: Joe Tazuna X afab!Reader

Sypnosis: The story picks up shortly after the events of Fairy Tale. On a weekend when MC's parents were out abroad, the young mistress of the household was down with a fever. It was also the day when Joe and Sara promised to visit the girl and bring her company. After waking up from her nightmare, MC eventually confided in Joe about her dream. After leaving the girl to recuperate, Sara confronted Joe about his feelings for the girl. For the rest of the day, Joe contemplated his own nightmares and feelings for MC.

"Sara... (Y/n)..." Bullets of sweat came rolling down his fair face as he uttered those names. He stood there before everyone else, the large grin on his face contrasting the expressions of his companions.

"This isn't real... It's just..."

"Sorry... I even tricked you two," the boy apologized, forcing his tone to be upbeat as ever. Though, as soon as his chocolate hues opened, the fear and agony were shown for everyone to see, a clear giveaway of his situation.

"Joe... Stop it...! I don't believe it... I..." the girl known as Sara exclaimed, her eyes brimming with salty tears. Soon, her voice faltered as she trembled like a fragile child.

Joe only watched as his best friend was trying her best not to fall to the floor, his face full of grief over this unfortunate outcome. Turning his attention to the other girl he had known since middle school, the brunette's jubilant facade immediately contorted into those of despair.

"This is a lie... right?" 

A stream of salty tears came cascading down from the girl's dull (e/c), lips parted and quivering. Slowly raising her heavy head, she faced the boy who was about to meet his demise. "J-Joe...? Please... this has to be a joke... right?"

"Sara, (Y/n), you two didn't vote for me," Joe said, forcing another bright grin to settle on his face — to convince his best friends that everything will be alright, despite the very obvious. "...That's what made it clear."

"I..."

"All of you guys are my friends," he declared, smiling one of his infamous closed-eye smiles. Then, slowly opening his lids halfway, his brows creased while regarding his beloved with a bittersweet smile dedicated only to her. "So...work together and do your best."

"Joe... Joe... D-don't leave me...! Please tell me that this is just a joke! Please! Someone! Anyone! Just...!"

"Last... There's something I wanna say. Sure enough... It's hard for a guy and a girl to say this sorta stuff to each other, huh...?" Joe awkwardly chuckled, rubbing his nape while briefly glancing at both girls. Collecting all of his courage, he conveyed his feelings for the two people he holds dearly. "I love ya, Sara! I love ya, (Y/n)! You two are my best friends!!"

Quiet sniffs turned to sobs. Sobs turned to wails. The two girls whom Joe was friends with ever since middle school became a mess upon hearing his last words. Sara's knees buckled and she fell to the floor. The poor girl was hugging her trembling body, her attention fixated solely on her friend. Meanwhile, (Y/n) stood still in her spot beside the brunette. Her complexion was as pale as a ghost and she remained motionless, however, her waterfall of tears and her pain-stricken face was an indication of her predicament.

"Yes, yes, it's over already. Eheehee," the blasted shrill voice of the floor master cut through the heavy atmosphere. A condescending sneer was plastered on her face, situated above the rest of the group just to look down on their pathetic selves. "Kai Satou, chosen by vote, will be the main event. Whereas you're the opening act. Hurry up and die."

"No... No... No...! No...! No!!!"

"Hey... Hey... Hey!" 

Snapping her eyelids open, the mentioned female heaved a heavy breath upon being awoken from her slumber. The bright light of the room immediately invaded her eyes and she forced her lids shut, groaning in pain and discomfort. It took the girl a few moments before she collects herself from whatever happened prior.

"H-hey! Are you alright (Y/n)?" a soft feminine voice broke the girl out of her trance.

The (h/l) (h/c)-haired girl whipped her head towards the sound, and there by her side were two familiar faces — a young man with spiky brown hair and chocolate eyes and a young woman with an almond ponytail and amethyst hues. Confusion instantly formed on the (h/c)ette's face, and she briefly rubbed her eyes and glanced around, realizing that the furniture indicates the room she was in was a bedroom. Her bedroom, to be precise.

"Wh... Joe...? Sara...?" she asked in disbelief. "Why are you two... here?"

A frown settled itself unto the boy's lips, crossing his arms. "What do you mean? Did you forget that we promised to visit you on the weekends? Today's one of them."

"Don't blame her, Joe; it isn't (Y/n)'s fault that she had a high fever the days before," Sara scolded the boy before focusing on her. A gentle smile was on the brunette's face as she took the towel off her forehead and feel her temperature. "Are you feeling okay, (Y/n)? You were quite in a difficult situation when you were sleeping earlier: labored breathing, red face, and bullets of sweat. Joe and I panicked when we entered your room and saw you in that state."

"I... I think I feel a bit okay."

The teen sighed in relief, standing up from the edge of the bed. "I'll go and tell Kai-san that you woke up. We will be preparing your food."

"Okay, thanks, Sara," (Y/n) meekly called on her.

"It's no problem," Sara smiled back, stopping by the doorframe. Before she left, she glanced at the other brunette in the room and met his gaze. "Watch over her, Joe."

"That goes without saying, Sara," he replied, giving her the thumbs up as she left the room and closed the door behind her.

Now turning his attention to the sick girl still laying on her bed, Joe's smile disappeared and was replaced with a frown. He took a few steps towards her and slowly sat on the edge of the bed. Brown irises scrutinize his best friend's appearance, especially her face which was littered with sweat. Her gaze was somewhere else as her mind was adrift as well. 

"Hey," he called softly. "Is something wrong?" 

"Huh?" (Y/n) snapped out of her trance at his call, shifting her attention to the worried male beside her. 

Joe sighed. "Your body is slightly trembling and you are sweating so much. I don't think that fever can make you uneasy like this, ya know?" 

"O-oh... I'm sorry for making you worry," she averted her eyes in shame, biting her lower lips

"Hey, it's fine, (Y/n). It's not your fault that you got sick," Joe reassured, quirking a gentle smile. 

Taking the discarded towel from her side, he faced the bedside table and dipped it into the provided basin with cold water. After he wrung the water out, he returned to her side and helped her sit up. He leaned closer to the (h/c)ette and carefully wiped the sweat from her face with the cold towel. This gesture, however, made the girl blush. 

"You don't have to do this, Joe." 

"It's fine. I don't want you getting cold sweat or else you'll worsen, you know?" he grinned, finishing up his task and rinsing the towel after. 

(Y/n)'s red-hued face was returning to her normal complexion, though her heartbeat was still racing. She glanced down and muttered, "Thanks, Joe." 

"It's no problem," returning to his seat by her bedside, Joe regarded the girl with a serious expression. "So, can you tell me what's bothering you?" 

Silence enveloped the two shortly after. Despite Joe's happy-go-lucky attitude, he is extremely observant and can be serious at times. Although (Y/n) likes him because of that, she was still taken by surprise by his bluntness. Seeing that she can trust him with her secret, she exhaled and prepared herself to confess.

"I...I had a nightmare," Joe's brown eyes widened a bit at her words, but wordlessly prompted her to continue. The girl let out a shaky breath and glanced outside her windows, avoiding Joe's firm gaze. "In my nightmare, I saw... you and Kai-san die."

Joe listened attentively to (Y/n)'s story. With every shaky breath, the (h/c)-tressed teen explained what she had experienced for the past nights. Her heart began speeding up upon remembering the memory, (e/c) hues starting to tear up. Though before she could fully break down, Joe immediately embraced the girl to comfort her. He whispered countless reassurance to her while patting her back. (Y/n) calmed down a bit, although her face was still red from earlier.

"I...I'm scared, Joe... I don't know why but that nightmare felt so real," she hiccupped, burying her face in Joe's neck for security and assurance. Her trembling limbs were gripping the boy's clothes tightly, afraid that he might disappear any moment. 

"Ssh... It's gonna be okay... Everything is gonna be okay," the brunette coaxed, lovingly patting her soft tresses and her back. "I'm real. And I'm safe. See? You can touch me right now, right? The same goes for Kai-san as well. We won't leave you, (Y/n)."

"R-really?"

"Really," gently pulling back, Joe stared at the girl's (e/c) orbs. He sported a gentle smile as he wiped her tears away. Then, he caressed her flushed cheeks with his fingers.  "Nothing's gonna hurt me or Kai-san. We're not gonna die on you, either."

"Promise?" She asked, her eyes hopeful.

"Promise."

After that, the sick female finally calmed down. Joe's smile widened a bit when she regained her cheerful demeanor. Although her face has evidence of her earlier breakdown, her cheeks retain the red hue, and her eyes are swollen and glassy. Nevertheless, the teenage male was glad that he was there to comfort his best friend. After a minute, both of them heard the door opening and two individuals entered the room.

 "You're finally here, Sara. Hey, Kai-san," Joe glanced at the approaching duo, his grin present on his face.

Kai nodded in his direction as he placed the meal on the table near (Y/n)'s bed. Joe stood up from the bed to let Kai do his work. And as for Sara, she was holding a basin of fresh towels and cold water. When she got closer to the other girl, she instantly noticed the (h/c)ette's red and puffy eyes. Her gaze narrowed though she remained silent.

After that short conversation with his best friend, Joe went down into the living to lounge in the meantime. He casually laid on one of the many sofas, playing with his dog keychain which was gifted to him by the young mistress of this household. Thoughts about (Y/n)'s earlier revelation came flooding his mind, troubling him greatly.

"Hey," a feminine voice said as footsteps came close to Joe. Sara stopped behind the couch and leaned on it, peering down at her best friend who briefly glanced at her. "What happened earlier?" 

The boy sighed and plastered a small cheeky smile on his face. "Took you long enough. I thought you weren't gonna ask what happened between us."

"Please, I'm not dumb nor dense," the pony-tailed girl scoffed, rolling her eyes playfully at him. "Anyway, tell me what happened. I could sense that something weird was with you two. Don't tell me you've made (Y/n) cry, Joe."

Despite her obvious joke, Sara received a slight glare coming from Joe. "You know that I'll never do such a thing, Sara. I care for (Y/n) so much that I don't want to make her cry."

"It's just a joke... Anyway, we've got time so speak up," she sighed, pushing her body off the sofa as Joe sat up.

Sara walked around the sofa and sat beside her best friend. Her violet eyes were glued to the brunette beside her, silence enveloping them while she waited for Joe to speak up. Meanwhile, the said male let out a heavy sigh and leaned against the couch, staring at the ceiling above. He raised his hand which still held the dog keychain, his eyes dropping halfway as his conversation with his crush replayed in his head.

"(Y/n) told me about her nightmare. She said that in her dreams, she saw my and Kai-san's apparent death," Joe paused for a breather, peering at the female beside him to see her listening attentively. "She said that she and you were there watching us die..."

Once Joe finished his short summary of (Y/n)'s troubles from earlier, silence immediately surrounds the two brunettes. Sara took a while to comprehend his words while Joe continued playing with the keychain. After a while, a loud sigh sliced through the air.

"Do you think that (Y/n) was afraid of losing you two that she developed nightmares like that?"

Joe pursed his lips in thought. "Maybe..."

A brief silence ensued after. The atmosphere was gloomy after that revelation. Joe closed his eyes and exhaled, trying to let out his frustrations and troubles through that. It was evident by his furrowed brows and frown that whatever he is thinking or feeling greatly concerned him.

"Hey, Sara. Could you hear me out?"

"Sure."

"Promise me not to laugh, okay?"

"Of course."

At that, Joe gulped and gathered all of his courage to speak, although his anxiety was evident by the sweat rolling down his face. Nevertheless, he, too, confided in his best friend. "I... I had a similar dream to (Y/n)'s."

Violet eyes widened a bit at his revelation, staring in belief. Sara had always known that Joe is an upbeat and positive person, though oftentimes, she can't help but worry about the two whenever they are not their usual selves. Although hearing his words, she still finds it hard to believe.

"Really?"

Joe nodded. "In my dream, the same events happened. Though, I saw everything from my perspective. I saw you two standing next to each other, shock and horror present on both of your faces. There were others more present, but their faces are blurry that I can't clearly remember them."

The male let off an awkward chuckle afterward, covering his eyes by resting his arms on top. Just remembering the nightmare itself was enough to make the brunette grow anxious by the minute. He totally understood what (Y/n) felt... because he, too, experienced the same. Meanwhile, the pony-tailed female watched Joe in silence. Although she can't comprehend anything that happened to both of her best friends, she was still upset that it was grave enough to trouble both of them. If Joe didn't tell her about (Y/n)'s condition and if he didn't confide in her, maybe she'll never know whatever troubles them at all.

"I told you two how precious you guys are to me... that no matter what, you two will always be my best friends," the male's voice wavered at the end, his breathing unsteady as he shakily exhaled. He could still feel his heart thumping aggressively against his chest, the surreal feeling of those tubes stuck to his flesh and draining him of blood sent shivers down his spine. Nevertheless the feeling, he continued. "I died because of blood loss; my death was painful and slow. And during all that, I saw you and (Y/n) trying so hard to save me from my impending death. It hurts seeing you in such a state, you know? And as for Kai-san, I could've sworn I saw him commit suicide and slit his wrists with a knife. "

There was a brief silence after that. Sara's crestfallen eyes trailed down to her palm, watching the steadiness of her hands compared to Joe's trembling ones. Others may consider Joe and (Y/n)'s story as absurd or just a mere nightmare, but Sara knew better than that. There are endless possibilities that it may be a premonition of something, and Sara isn't gonna stay ignorant of that fact and brush it off as a mere coincidence.

"Do you think that your and (Y/n)'s nightmares are somehow related to you two?" She asked, concern lacing her tone.

Joe just shrugged his shoulders. "Who knows..."

"Hm... Maybe those dreams are like alternate universes. Maybe they appeared to you two for a reason," she explained to which the male just nodded. Sara sighed.

Silence once again enveloped the two. And after a few minutes, the male spoke up. "And yeah, after that, there's this one moment where I met you two for the last time. It was like my spirit showed itself to you two and comforted you guys. That feeling was like the last goodbye, you know?"

"Don't make it sound like you're really dying. (Y/n) would be sad if she heard of this," the brown-haired female scolded, jabbing Joe on his side which earned her a pained grunt.

"I-it's just a dream, Sara!"

The girl huffed, crossing her arms and eyeing Joe up and down. "Then..."

"Then...?" He quirked a confused brow, prompting the girl to continue.

An exasperated sigh escaped her lips, shaking her head in disappointment. "When are you gonna confess to (Y/n)?"

At that statement, Joe's face flared up, completely surprised by his best friend's proclamation. "W-w-where did you get the idea from?!"

"What do you mean? It's obvious that you like her. It's all evident with your actions towards her," Sara deadpanned. "Other people can clearly pick up the implications behind your gestures. It's really a miracle that (Y/n) hadn't noticed it yet."

"... I won't..." the flustered male shyly looked away, hiding away his red-hued face from the girl.

"Why not?"

"I don't believe that (Y/n) felt the same way that I do..." he gazed down his lap, brown hues containing a glint of sadness in them.

"It's better if you know yourself if she felt the same or not. Don't assume things, Joe."

However, instead of following her advice, Joe shook his head and stood up from the couch. He glanced back at the confused female and smiled sadly at her. "Sometimes, giving up is better than hopelessly pursuing."

At that, Sara watched as Joe exited the living room with his last statement echoing in the room. The girl blinked at the occurrence, baffled by the male's words and actions. Although she understood where he's coming from, she can't help but be infuriated with his attitude.

Sara sighed, face-palming. "That guy..."

"(Y/n)? You called for me?" A certain brunette asked, knocking on the open door.

As she heard his voice, the teen glanced at the person at her doorway. A smile plastered on her face as she motioned Joe to come in. The male entered the room and stopped just behind the girl. Curious about what she was doing on her desk, the brunette teen peered over the girl's shoulder. The sick girl was writing in her notebook, some words he could decipher which piqued his interest.

"What are you writing?"

"Oh, nothing much. I was just writing down whatever happened in my dream."

"Ohh... Why though? Isn't it uncomfortable if you were kept reminded of those nightmares?"

The girl sighed, leaning back on her chair, and glanced up. (E/c) eyes were met with brown ones, and after a while, Joe did his signature closed-eye grin. This prompted a small smile on the girl before she returned to her work, biting her lip.

"My nightmare started a few nights before. At first, it was just small clips and I can't see nor remember any clear images. However, recently, those dreams started to become longer and the images seem to be clear. The frequency of when it would appear also increased," (Y/n) explained. Soon, a frown was plastered on her lips, sighing in dismay. "I wanted to find the reason why I'm having these sorts of dreams. What do they mean? Why do I feel so affected by them? I was trying to see if it was just a coincidence or if it is connected to me... Some people do believe that dreams are manifestations of our inner desires or fears."

"Oh, I see. I'm not that smart to know that writing your dreams will help but I'm amazed that you've thought of that," the boy nodded, though he only gets the gist of her explanation. "Is that the reason why you called me though?"

The girl scratched her temple sheepishly, feeling nervous for some reason. A light blush decorated her cheeks, fiddling with her fingers. "Yes...? You're the only one that I'm comfortable with discussing this secret, Joe."

"Me? Why not Kai-san?"

(E/c) eyes dropped halfway, staring at the notebook. "Even though Kai-san is understanding and I trust him, it still feels different when I'm sharing this with you. It felt right that you're the one I told about this. It's like we're on the same wavelength, you know?"

Due to her sincere words, Joe's pale cheeks flared up. Butterflies started to flutter inside his stomach and his heart rate increased. Though, Joe covered his flustered state with a large grin. "Thanks, (Y/n)! I couldn't agree more!"

She chuckled at that. "You and Sara are planning to have a sleepover, right?"

"Yep~ And Kai-san agreed that we both can sleep in your room. Though I'll be sleeping on the floor with the provided futon and you girls will be on the bed."

"Will you be comfortable on the floor, Joe?" She frowned at him. "I mean, there's a lot of space in my bed for the three of us."

"You do know that it's inappropriate for a guy and a girl to share a bed if they're not intimate enough, right?" He said, averting his gaze elsewhere to hide his reddening blush. "Besides, I'll be fine on the floor, as long as none of you guys step on me."

The (h/c)ette snickered at his joke which made the boy even more flustered when hearing her laugh. Joe was glad that his best friend was feeling much better. Just the thought of them three spending time bonding together was enough to send a smile to his face.

"Thanks for everything, Joe. For being there for me and being my best friend."

Brown eyes softened, staring gently at the girl as he muttered. "Yeah..."

The bright moonlight seeped through the thin curtains of the mistress's room. Quiet stars twinkling above that decorated the evening skies. A certain male sat comfortably on the window sill, his gaze fixated on the giant white ball perched atop. It was already way past bedtime, and the two girls were already asleep on the bed. Seeing that he can't sleep, Joe decided to take this time to contemplate many things that transpired today.

Joe had a somber expression while watching the cityscape outside, his brown eyes trailing over everything he finds interesting. His thoughts wandered towards the girl he had a crush on, recalling the day he first met her and the times they had bonded until they are close enough to be called best friends. A minuscule smile appeared on his lips, his eyes gentle while a faint blush bloomed on his cheeks.

"I can't believe that it's almost five years since the three of us became friends," he murmured. "Time does fly when you're having fun."

However, his pleasant feeling didn't last long. As soon as his thoughts derailed towards the nightmares he and (Y/n) shared, his heart made a single aggressive beat before it raced inside his chest. The smile vanished and was replaced by a frown. A slight wrinkle was visible in between his eyebrows, eyes now containing a sorrowful glint. Joe took a deep breath and slowly exhaled, closing his eyes as he did so. Yet, despite his effort to calm himself, he could still feel the surreal horrors of his nightmare.

"Dammit..." Joe clutched his heart, feeling the pain of the tubes sucking his blood agonizingly slow. Sweat started to emerge on his face, his heart racing in fear. "Dying like that in my dream was really scary... but now, hearing how (Y/n) felt when seeing us die like that, I could only imagine how much suffering she had to go through."

Sighing out loud, Joe decided that it was enough contemplating for tonight. He stood up from the window sill, about to return to his futon when he stopped abruptly. His eyes landed on the sleeping form of his best friends, though his gaze was fixated on a particular (h/c)-tressed teen. He quietly made his way towards the bed, carefully sitting on the edge of the mattress.

Soft eyes lovingly observed the sleeping girl, seeing her peaceful breathing pattern. Slowly raising his hand, the male caressed her soft locks affectionately. (Y/n) stirred in her sleep, however, making him flinch and halted his actions. Joe remained motionless, his body tensed and pink smeared on his cheeks at his act. After a minute of waiting for something, the girl returned to sleep and he relaxed, continuing to pat his crush's head.

At this act, a tiny smile emerged on her lips, seemingly enjoying the affection. Joe sported the same smile as well before he leaned down to her. Closing both of his eyes, the brunette male planted a chaste kiss on the girl's forehead. He pulled back and caressed her cheeks, whispering the words that he doesn't have enough courage to say to her face-to-face.

"Even if you don't love me the same way as I do, I will always be there for you. I will stay by your side to make you happy and protect you. I will never let you go, (Y/n)... I love you."
