Christmas in July Event?
So I’ve been thinking about this recently because with April coming to an end and July coming up after May and June, it made me wonder about something. Does anyone want to do a Christmas in July Drawing Challenge? Anyone can participate (as long the content does not cross lines like breaking laws). Anyone who celebrates Christmas or any other Holiday taking place at that time (Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, etc.), loves Christmas Specials and Movies, and anything winter related. All this listed above, but we all draw them in a summer setting. What are the elves doing over the summer preparing before Christmas comes? Where is Santa's Summar Vacation at? Or maybe you just want to draw a snowman on the beach. It doesn't have to be a thirty-day challenge event. Just do what makes you comfortable kind of event. What does everyone think?

Alice in Wonderland / GPP
Julie had never seen anyone with rabbit ears before, not outside of conventions and Halloween, and definitely not on a random Sunday afternoon in the park.
Curiosity piqued, she’d followed the tall blonde and his white rabbit ears and soon fell quite literally into a whole other world filled with a small eclectic mix of residents, a couple more with their own animal characteristics.
And while she’s never experienced a tea party, croquet game…or day like this in general…ever before she can honestly say that she wishes she didn’t have to leave all her new friends behind–but knows she can’t just abandon her family without a single word–maybe someday soon she can return.
(Send me an AU and a pairing and I'll write a 3 sentence fic)

Artists in Wonderland - Number 6
Welcome to Artists in Wonderland! Running till the 4th of July, I’m counting down My Top 10 Favorite Illustrators for “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland!” The Lewis Carroll stories of Alice are as immortal as they are odd, and many great artists have handled them in different ways. This countdown will pay homage to just a few of them. Our 6th Place illustrator uses a style I imagine at least a few people reading this will find QUITE interesting. Today’s artist is Kriss Sison!
Tumblr media
Sison’s omnibus edition of both “Alice” books is one of the most recent, released in 2014. It was part of the “Illustrated Classics” series by Seven Seas Entertainment. Seven Seas is a publishing company that specializes in manga-style works. Their “Illustrated Classics” collection takes multiple pieces of classic literature and releases them in special editions illustrated in a manga/light-novel-esque style. Wonderland in a manga or anime style is nothing new. Japan has an ENORMOUS following for the Carroll stories; in fact, I may be mistaken, but I think it’s possible that Japan has released more work inspired by or directly based on the “Alice” stories than any other country, including both the United Kingdom and the U.S.A. From reimaginings like “Pandora Hearts” and “Alice in the Country of Hearts,” to “gimmick episodes” like those found in “Black Butler” and “Ouran High School Host Club,” to “guest appearances” in things like “100 Sleeping Princes and the Kingdom of Dreams” or “Grimms Notes,” it’s everywhere. Even pieces that are not directly adapted from the books show their influence: several Studio Ghibli movies, for example, such as “My Neighbor Totoro,” “Spirited Away,” and “The Cat Returns” all have a sort of “Alice-ness” to them. So, what sets Sison apart from so many other Japanese or Japanese-influenced interpretations? Very simply this: no one, to my knowledge, has taken this approach to the ACTUAL STORIES before. At least to my knowledge, there was never an illustrated copy of Alcie quite like this before Seven Seas made their edition. Seeing the original Carroll text matched with this type of art style is actually very special and unique. And while the style is familiar, Sison’s imaginings of the different characters are entirely her own invention. There’s a lot to admire with this edition; the artwork is plentiful, in more ways than one. Each chapter in each book is given a minimum of two illustrations, and these black-and-white inked pieces are scattered in a very clever way to detail the action that goes through each story. Along with these monochrome images, Sison also includes seven full-color images, including a textless spread of the cover art (which I have provided above in favor of the ACTUAL cover). And there’s still more: at the end of the book, she even includes a few pages of behind-the-scenes artwork, showcasing her concept sketches for some of the characters and a step-by-step play of her drafts for the cover art. What I love most about this edition, and the artwork that accompanies it, can be summed up in three words: color, action, and personality. While most of the book is illustrated in black and white, the cover art and the six other color images included are absolutely gorgeous. The colors used are richer than thick candy, but never feel garish or gaudy. There’s a sense of dimension and weight to things, and the world feels truly dense and alive in these colored images. This is lost in the monochrome pictures, but they make up with it due to the latter two points: what this style, and the way it’s particularly handled, really achieves is making the characters and events in the story feel truly alive. With a lot of other illustrated copies of “Alice,” there’s a sort of static quality to them; as if you’re looking at a portrait or a photo. They’re wonderful, of course, but they feel very still. Sison’s artwork makes the characters feel like they’re truly living and breathing, leaping from the pages, with incredible expressions and fantastic personality to every one. And unlike a graphic novel (or a manga), none of Carroll’s text is lost in translation because, as important as the illustrations are, they ARE ultimately illustrations to the complete story. For those who find the manga/anime style something of a put-off, this edition will not likely engage you much. But if you’re open to the idea, and if you love the “Alice” stories, you definitely will want to check this one out. It’s fairly easy to find, as far as I can tell. I’d also recommend looking into other works by Seven Seas, such as Sison’s illustrated omnibus of “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” and “The Marvelous Land of Oz.” Lions, and tigers, and anime girls, oh, my!

Year of the Alice Day 185
This is my first (and hopefully only) one-year project (which will be only 365 days) and this one is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland-themed.
In this pic, the Queen of Hearts from Alice's Wonderland Bakery is watching red fireworks to celebrate the 4th of July.
Made with Microsoft Paint.

It takes time to make the bracket cuz I gotta arrange all of these to be at least semi-equal in popularity to each other, and then make all the edited photos. I’ve been rather busy lately, but it should be up by tomorrow night :)

Every time a hyperfixation that makes me happy dies I think of this lol
Tumblr media
The dca brainrot is making me the happiest I’ve been in a while, just like it did for you! It was re-sparked in early July when I started reading So(u)l, and it was one of the best summers I can remember cuz it gave me so much artistic inspiration and happiness :)
And now that I’m in school, reading Bethroned and other dca fics have literally actually saved my mental health. When I came back to college it was ROUGH for the first few weeks, I was not doing okay. But the saving grace was that at the end of the day I could Alice in Wonderland myself and jump into worlds with the dca and go on fun adventures, and that helped me a lot.
So basically I’m saying thank you, I’m so happy right now and doing okay because I just happened to randomly click on So(u)l in July and it all went from there haha!
Please don’t feel guilty about the dca brainrot fading, that happens! And i think it’s awesome that you wanna focus on your ocs, they deserve love too!! I am SO HYPED to see more art of Arche and Elio, you did an amazing job designing them!
hghdfsh wAUUGH THANK YOUU SOBS SOBBING
<3<3<3 also HDDGFHS THATS THE IMAGE I ALWAYS THINK OF TOO

𝑀𝑒𝓁𝑜𝓇𝒶𝒶 (@𝓂𝒾𝓉𝑜𝒷𝑒𝑒)
Hello! I'm Melora! I forgot to do an introduction so I'm gonna do that now!
I started writing for fun wayyy back in 2018 starting with My Hero Academia self inserts (cringe i know.) and have been pretty much hooked since!
In July of 2023, I had decided that I wanted to publicize my works in fandoms I'm interested in, like Twisted Wonderland, and Obey Me.
But, things got in the way, and now it's been almost a year since I've written anything.
I recently decided to come back because I missed writing. It was a pretty big creative outlet for me and was a big part of my life I had just let go of.
IM BACK NOW THOUGH SO-
𝐹𝒶𝓃𝒹𝑜𝓂𝓈
Heres my masterlist!
I'll pretty flexible with my fandoms, so even if you don't see your desired fandom, you can send an ask and I might write it!
Twisted Wonderland
Obey Me!!!/Obey Me!!! Nightbringer
Jujustu Kaisen
Honkai Star Rail
Genshin Impact
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Dungeon Meshi
Wind Breaker
Bungo Stray Dogs
𝑅𝓊𝓁𝑒𝓈
I have a few rules just to keep things on my blog nice and tidy! Please read them! I will not budge on my rules for anyone!
I will not write:
Yandere
character x character ships (unless one of those characters is an oc)
x reader with people under 16 (Luke, Ortho, Bailu ect.)*
x reader smut with people under 18 (Ace Trappola, Deuce Spade, ect.) * I do not care if the character is "above 16/18 lore-wise". If they look/act like they are under my age criteria, I will not write it!
Other than that, I'm pretty open to any other requests! Have fun!
(I reserve the rights to change my criteria at any time, for any reason, without disclosing it/my reason explicitly, so check back often!)
𝐹𝒾𝓃𝒶𝓁 𝒩𝑜𝓉𝑒
PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE IF YOU FIND ANY GOOD FICS PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE FEEL FREE TO MENTION ME IN THEM OR LET ME KNOW THEY EXIST IM SO STARVED OF FICS I HAVENT ALREADY SEEN PLZPLZPLZPLZPLZPLZ MY DMS ARE OPEN.

On July 4 1862 Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (pen name Lewis Carroll) took the three Liddell sisters, Lorina, Alice and Edith, on a boat ride along the River Thames. On the bank at Godstow he told the story of Alice’s Adventures Underground (later renamed Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland) for the first time.

161 years later this book, and its sequel Through The Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There, have had an indelible mark on our culture. A classic of children’s literature, it has never gone out of print. It has been translated into 174 languages, adapted into dozens of films (the first of which was made in 1903) and inspired countless works of art. Its nonsensical whimsy and celebration of childhood is beloved by children and adults everywhere.

Out of any story I’ve read, Alice has had the most profound impact on me. I am forever grateful to the man who told it and then wrote it down, the man who captured its magic with his illustrations, and - above all- the little girl who inspired it.

“Thus grew the tale of Wonderland: thus slowly, one by one, its quaint events were hammered out and now the tale is done, and home we steer, a merry crew, beneath the setting sun. Alice! A childish story take, and, with a gentle hand, lay it where Childhood’s dreams are twined in Memory’s mystic band. Like pilgrim’s wither’d wreath of flowers pluck’d in far off land.” - All in the Golden Afternoon, Lewis Carroll

#Writeblr Introduction
Hi! I'm Emily (she/her), a 30-something Australian trying to write things that people want to read. I mostly write low fantasy and/or soft sci-fi, usually with a romantic streak.
Even when I actively try to not include any romance, my characters tend to just all fall in love with each other anyway. It's annoying.
Anyway.
Let's be friends! I'm totally happy for you to send me asks, tag games, etc.
I'll be posting writing content (both mine and others') in amongst fandom material. Mostly Disney (Tangled in particular), with some Doctor Who and other things thrown in when the mood strikes.
I'll be honest, Tumblr moves fast and sometimes I can't keep up. But I'll try to interact with you as best I can.
Current WIPs:
Paradox
TAG: WIP: Paradox
A time travel romance with an Eleventh Doctor/River Song vibe. Meg takes on a job assisting an elderly professor sort through all his files and begin writing his memoirs. The last thing she expects is to fall in love with his younger self.
Current status: first drafting
Wonderland
WIP INTRO POST
TAG: WIP: Wonderland
Inspired by Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, this is the third book in my series of virtual reality retellings. Max Drosselmeier finally finds out the reason for his ability to remove things from the virtual world and into the real one, but not before his limbs start disappearing one by one. (Ahem, you can read about and buy the first two books here if you like.)
Current status: first round of revisions
I also write short stories when the mood strikes, and in July 2023, I started writing fanfiction again after a ten-year absence from fandom.
Things I like to read and/or write about:
forbidden love
love affair that's too hot to last
characters not realising they're in love with one another, or being oblivious to the other one's feelings
found family
friends-to-lovers
characters begrudgingly having to work together and realising they're a good fit
fairy tale/classic story retellings
jerk with a heart of gold
banter
male characters (especially love interests) who look like Josh Groban circa 2007 when I saw him in concert age 18. 😂
and probably more that just aren't coming to mind right now.

Artists in Wonderland - Number 9
Welcome to Artists in Wonderland! Running till the 4th of July, I’m counting down My Top 10 Favorite Illustrators for “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland!” The Lewis Carroll stories of Alice are as immortal as they are odd, and many great artists have handled them in different ways. This countdown will pay homage to just a few of them. Our 9th Place illustrator creates a truly surreal experience. Today’s artist is Salvador Dali!
Tumblr media
For anyone reading this who is REALLY into art, or else REALLY into the “Alice” books (or both), placing Dali so low in the Top 10 is probably tantamount to the most sacrilegious blasphemy any heretic could utter. I ask you to please note that this is all opinion based, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Having said that, let’s start off this explanation positively, because as you might expect, there is PLENTY positivity to be had. For those of you who don’t know (and I hope that will not be many of you), Salvador Dali was one of the most influential artists of all time. He was effectively the leader of the Surrealist movement in art, and was the creative mastermind who most allowed that particular style to enter the public eye. In his time, Dali was something of a controversial figure: his artwork blended elements of pure surrealism with more representational techniques, including the Pop Art movement and Expressionist artwork. This, and his flamboyant personality, mixed with his limelight appeal, made him loved by general audiences to his craft…but amongst more serious critics and his contemporaries, there was a bit of a conflict between whether he should be considered a madcap genius, or a traitor to the movement’s ideals. Whatever the case, he is still recognized as the most important Surrealist artist who ever lived. His paintings, drawings, and cinematic endeavors are the stuff of legend, with work that ranged from the whimsical to the utterly disturbed. Surrealism is an art form that focuses far less on realistic representation and logical construction as it does on a fantastical, intentionally absurd and strange expression of one’s inner emotions. Dali’s artwork certainly fits the bill there, but interestingly, Dali himself was a man with a more practical sense of the world than one might at first expect: most famously, he had a vested interest in mathematics and architecture. His artwork reflects this: at first, his creations seem like abstract splashes of color and shapes, but the more you look at them, the more cleverly composed you will realize they are. It was only fitting that this man and his art style would eventually be coupled with a story that matched this paradox of logic and chaos perfectly: “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” In 1969, Random House (of all companies) commissioned Dali to create a series of paintings based on the first of Carroll’s books. These paintings were then used as the illustrations for a special edition of the story published that same year. Dali’s illustrations were long after celebrated as not only some of the most fabulous art to be connected to the book, but also as perhaps some of his personal finest works. Ironically, despite this, the book - and the artwork - became EXTREMELY hard to come by in the coming decades: finding a print of Dali’s Alice pictures, or a copy of the 1969 Random House edition, was next to impossible, and prices were appalling. That all changed in 2015, when Princeton University Press re-published the book in celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the “Alice” stories, at the reasonable price of about $25. This special edition was a Godsend to lovers of Carroll, as well as lovers of Dali’s art, who had long wanted to see how the master surrealist and the wildness of Wonderland would match up. For most serious Carrollian scholars, this is one of the definitive illustrated copies of the Alice stories. I, however, am not “most serious Carrollian scholars.” As far as Dali’s artwork goes, it does not disappoint in the slightest. It truly is some of his finest work. Much like the previous edition I talked about in the countdown, illustrated by Alice Von Gotha, Dali does not illustrate the scenes and characters of the book, but rather creates a series of frontispiece pictures to accompany each separate chapter. And much like Von Gotha, the images are less representational of the characters or events, and more inspired by them. Dali does not depict most of the Alice characters in his stories. Instead, he mostly focuses on landscape work, depicting trees, mushrooms, oceans, and so on. He incorporates visual elements that are found in each chapter, and then lets his watercolors and wild imagination do the talking without the majority of characters being properly present. The only constant character in each image is Alice, consistently depicted as a faceless girl skipping rope (a recurring image throughout Dali’s work). Dali does not capture the personalities and forms of the characters, but instead focuses on the feeling of Wonderland itself: it’s disorganized, insane, a madhouse of color and exotic, imperceivable, dreamlike sensations. Indeed, nowhere has the dreamlike quality of Wonderland been so beautifully captured as here. Sometimes it is scary, sometimes it is beautiful, and sometimes you seriously don’t know WHAT it is, but it’s still doing SOMETHING to your heart and mind. HOWEVER, much like Von Gotha’s artwork, the problem is these gorgeous, sumptuous paintings also have to act as illustrations. And, again, sometimes they do not service the writing itself. Again, it’s problematic when the book outright says “look at the picture” and there’s nothing there to help guide the reader. I suppose I just prefer more representational art when it comes to stories like Alice: as much as I adore Dali’s painting for the Mad Tea Party (seriously, I want a print of that to frame on my wall), I much prefer to actually see what artists do with the characters and sets in a more “physical” than “metaphysical” manner. This is all just a matter of personal taste of course. TL, DR: absolutely BEAUTIFUL paintings, brilliant works by Salvador Dali…but far from a “definitive” illustrated copy for me, personally.
