I watched ATSV again in theaters and noticed some interesting things:

Gwen's dad at the beginning wears a Vision Academy sweater. Not only that, he's in the gymnastics group. This means that Vision not only exists on Earth-65, George has entered it. Maybe it explains how Gwen knew how to blend in so well. And that she chose to take ballet lessons because of her father.

When Miguel's universe was falling apart, not only he but Peter B. and other spiders were there. It gives extra weight to the whole Society thing. It's not just a sad story a random guy told, it was a catastrophe witnessed by several of them. I don't blame them for believing so much.

Peter and Gwen have known each other since they were 4, assuming she's 16 and George's speech after his death says he's known Peter for 12 years.

A spider person having their Sense Triggered when someone they love is not themselves in danger is not new. Miles felt his father falling at the beginning of the film. Pav felt Gayatri on the bus. But what is abysmal is that Gwen's felt between dimensions. In all other cases, they were from people present in the same space and dimension. So that says a lot only about the love she feels for Miles (and also about her spider sense.)

Oh these are interesting!

I actually notice that shirt on my last viewing! I cannot believe it took me this long to realize.

Funnily enough, my first thought when I saw this is that Gwen was Vision's and this was a shirt in support of her. But considering how faded this looks, your explanation makes more sense since I really doubt Visions Academy has lower classes than middle school.

Though not gonna lie, I found funny the idea that the visions in Gwen's world may be just another run-of-the-mill school, just to appear in Miles's world and be like "why did he get the nice version?"

May keep that hc regardless.

Oh I knew Peter was there from the first viewing, what I didn't realize was about the different spiders!

Let's see who he can spot.

Julia Carpenter is here! I am not really familiar with her character (I don't read comics, for now at least,) but hey, nice to see they are bringing some classics.

I'm going to assume this is Peter B, but I don't think anyone can blame me for mixing this one up if it isn't the case.

Cowboy Spidey is here!

This one we are going to wait for the HD version of this movie because I had a hard time finding a frame where I could kind of see them let alone be clear who they are.

I still need to finish that analysis, but honestly the organization as a whole works in some ways that upon reflection, not only I am not surprised they believe it, I'm more than anything horrified how no one realized how nuts the place was getting.

Good eye! I haven't noticed this one myself, and again, I had seen this movie several times. In my defense, sometimes the audio is hard to catch and I had issues catching stuff at it is. I really need to get a good version of this movie with subtitles.

But this is cool! It really goes to show how important was Peter for Gwen, they really had known each other since forever and I can't imagine not just how much it hurt Gwen losing Peter, but her needing to get used to reality of not having around after doing so for so much of her life.

Goddammit when I thought Peter and Gwen's tragedy couldn't get worse-

This one y'all know how I feel, and if you don't, here.

I still hope we get a more in depth explanation, though I wouldn't be surprised if we don't. Regardless, is undeniable how much Miles matters to Gwen, and viceversa.

Hey Hi! I just learned this and I didn't know who else to ask but, uhhh... is the Madame Web in the movie supposed to be Cassandra Webb? Like very disabled Cassandra Webb? The woman who needs a "special chair" to function? I genuinely thought it was Julia Carpenter/Cornwall but it isn't?? I actually thought they mixed up Jessica Drew and Julia at first but no I saw somewhere they said it was Cassandra!

(Also there's no Jessica Drew in sight?) I hope this reads as frantic as I feel

Yep, it's supposed to be Cassandra.

Since it's an "origin" story, that's their justification about why she's young and abled. They very clearly modeled her after the current iteration of Julia.

Julia became blind when she inherited the powers of Cassandra after she died during Grim Hunt storyline.

Heh, imagine if this movie is based on Grim Hunt, Cassandra dies before she even truly becomes Madame Web, Julia ends up becoming MW, and Mattie -the only black woman in this ensemble- dies.

Summary: My Senior Year. Man was I a mess. I was doing my stage management internship while writing my twenty four page research paper. Which, I had no plan for at all that year. So, I decided last minute to just do it on my favorite fairytale and just run with it. My professor had me rewrite the first half of my paper at least ten times that semester before I even got it right. And, by that point I was stressing on whether or not I was going to even be able to finish my paper.

So I've mentioned a bit about Sindorumeladil and Calana Sinahl, who are Laataazin's family from before Skyrim, when they were still known as Imperial veteran Brais.

For those who don't know, Brais, or Laat, came back from the Third War against the Aldmeri Dominion shattered and tired, and found their single remaining family member, sister Julia, pregnant and alone in their small house in the Imperial City. Julia did not survive long after the birth of her child, Calana, and remained tightlipped about the identity of the father - only that he was passing through, that she never thought to see him again, that she had loved him whilst she had known him. When the child was born, it became clear that she was half elven, and Julia admitted the other parent had been an enemy operative stationed in the Imperial City during Lord Naarafin's control of it. All she had of him now was a signet ring he had left her, which she begged Brais to keep safe for Calana, until the time came when she would be old enough to protect herself, if she decided to seek him out.

Brais took the infant Calana and left the City following Julia's death, unable to bear the memories and hoping to avoid exposing Calana to rising anti-elven sentiments in the capital with the signing of the White-Gold Concordat. They travelled for some time, driven from place to place by Calana's young and frequently explosive magical talents, and Brais' inability to hold a steady job whilst dealing with single parenthood and PTSD. Eventually, Brais found work as a carpenter's apprentice in Chorrol, where they stayed for the next few years.

In that time, Sindorumeladil, Calana's father, had gone back home to Alinor. Following the war and his secret role in helping the Imperials recapture their city, he was anxious to deflect attention from himself and secure his position, in the hope of one day finding and marrying his human lover, Julia, who he had no idea he had left pregnant. He lived at that time at his family's estate in Firsthold, under the watchful eye of his mother, Viraneminwe Sinahl. High-ranking, powerful, and calculating, Viraneminwe had personally trained many of the agents that Sindor had either betrayed directly or used during his subterfuge. Their troubled relationship, rocky from a lifetime of opposing views and emotional differences, exploded into outright animosity when Sindorumeladil confessed that he intended to return to Cyrodiil and seek out Julia. To prevent him from going, Viraneminwe assigned him her former trainee Elenwen as a guard, prompting Sindor to injure her and flee the country.

Now on the run, Sindor travelled to the Imperial City, hoping to find Julia. He found the house sold and no sign of where she had gone. Distraught and imagining she had either died or gone to hide from him, he was close to giving up, until the new neighbours mentioned the child that was born - a healthy human child, whose elf-freckled skin glowed in the sun like a star. Recognising he was the likely parent, Sindor braved reaching out to his connections through the Argonian bard and close personal friend, Plucks-the-Strings, desperate for any route to reach his daughter.

In exchange for throwing the weight of his family name behind Elenwen's promotion to First Emissary of the Thalmor to Skyrim, Elenwen used her personal acquaintances within Thalmor intelligence to track down Brais and Calana. She delivered the information to Sindor, who nervously went to visit.

Brais and Calana were reluctant to know Sindor, particularly Brais, who feared and despised the Thalmor battlemages following their experiences in the war. Sindor offered to support Calana and Brais any way he could, and promised he would not attempt to take Calana away or separate her from Brais. After some time, enough trust was built that Sindor suggested moving to Valenwood, where they would be further from both Alinor and the Imperial City, and the tensions that continued to flare in both. Viraneminwe in this time sent a letter to Sindor, commanding him to return home and present his daughter to Auriel in the Altmeri tradition. Cautiously optimistic that his mother had decided to accept Calana even if she had not been pleased by Julia, Sindor took Calana and Brais and went.

During their time in Alinor, Brais became familiar with Viraneminwe and other ranking members of the Thalmor council, through parties and scandals. Unofficially recruited as an operative of the double dealing and counter-Thalmor faction the Beautiful, Brais took a commission from the Thalmor, which they continued to serve out while living in Valenwood with Sindor, Calana and Plucks-the-Strings, who were also involved to greater and lesser degrees.

One such job was hunting an escaped Blade, last seen in Riften. Packing their bags, Brais took the next carriage to Skyrim ... and Helgen, and thus their story as Laataazin the Dragonborn begins after suffering intense injuries that affected their recollection and capacity to relate to their own memories, and their life as Brais ends.

But for Sindor and Calana, their life continues. Mourning Brais as dead at Helgen keep, Sindor attempted to continue raising the now teenaged Calana alone, who was resistant to him and highly rebellious, frequently getting into trouble with local Bosmeri anarchist groups. Facing increasing pressure from Viraneminwe to return to Alinor, Sindor now balances an extremely fine tightrope of lip service loyalty to his mother and supporting his daughter, continually fearing for his and Calana's lives. love that one, it’s definitely one of my theo songs too

lately my favorite genre of theo song has been theo & audrey. or just theo remembering audrey. i like mitski’s the frost & i guess. julia by the beatles. everything reminds me of her by elliott smith. last night i dreamt that somebody loved me by the smiths. the velvet undergound’s after hours and pale blue eyes. though i think these are both mentioned in the book? or at least alluded to.

another favorite genre: back in ny and sick in the brain. miss misery by elliott smith. how to disappear completely by radiohead. heaven knows i’m miserable now by the smiths. i don’t like my mind, when memories snow, there’s nothing left for you by mitski. song in e by julien baker. and all of b-sides by julien.

hungry like the wolf by duran duran, basket case by greenday, and blue light by mazzy star all feel like vegas songs to me. and long, long, long by the beatles always makes me think of boris and theo reuniting.

i also imagine theo listening to something way dramatic to the point of corny on the way to his engagement party like goodbye to love by the carpenters. something of his mom’s left on his old ipod. he walked all the way uptown listening to this with his head hung, full cartoon mode, cause he’s out of his mind and pathetic.

Trisha Baga

Earth, 2023

Trisha Baga’s newest paintings are based upon images captured by the James Webb Space Telescope or views like the Hubble Ultra Deep Field, a composite photograph of distant galaxies assembled from 800 exposures over the course of eleven days. “Even though I always get down and dirty with whatever medium I work with," Baga explains, “it does feel less like I am being a painter painting, and more like I’m behaving as an extension of the Webb telescope. Like through hand painting them, I’m behaving as yet another layer that re-enacts and interprets the information generated from that whole sublime global project." The painting Earth derives from hubbel imagery, yet Baga removed the galaxies and painted them at the bottom of the image like a pile of rocks, which the artist notes are elements used to create natural pigments and are therefore building blocks of painting itself. Baga has often described their work as “being about transitions, […] about different layers and mediums touching each other, like different bodies." Their ongoing work with ceramics is also incorporated into this work, as the galaxy shapes at the bottom of the image were hand-fashioned from clay and then painted from life. “It’s about gravity!” Baga explains, “I imagined the galaxies cut out of the image and subjected to earthly gravity and scale.”

Trisha Baga b. 1985, Venice lives and works in New York. Their immersive large-scale painting installation BODY CLOCK— a constellation of painting, light projections, staged objects, and sculpture— was exhibited at Art Basel Unlimited in 2021. That same year, their video installation HOPE illuminated the façade of Kassel’s Fridericianum on the United States election day. Their work is currently on view in the show HOPE at Museion, Bolzano curated by Bart van der Heide and Leonie Radine; and will be part of a groupshow at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in November. Baga’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Pirelli HangarBicocca, Milan; CCC, Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, Harvard College, Cambridge; Zabludowicz Collection, London; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Baga has also participated in group exhibitions at ARoS Aarhus Art Museum, Aarhus; Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna; Biennale f��r aktuelle Fotografie, Ludwigshafen am Rhein; PS1, New York; Centre d’Art Contemporain, Geneva; European Biennial of Contemporary Art, Zurich; and Julia Stoschek Collection at ZKM, Düsseldorf, among many other venues.

Leading the Order of the Web takes up most of Julia’s time. She watches the Web and all the other heroes, appealing to them when need be. There’s Rachel, of course, and the hero makes sure to spend as much time with her daughter as possible. When she first agreed to the governmental program that would give her the abilities she has, Julia never imagined she’d end up blind or in the role that she is. Cassandra Webb really changed the direction of her life, and now Julia is living it to the best of her abilities.

✗ RACHEL CARPENTER (616) is always going to be Julia’s priority. She knows that it can’t be easy to be her daughter, and she loves Rachel. Her kid is smart and has a good head on her shoulder. What they do isn’t easy, but they’re figuring it out together. It doesn’t matter what happens with the spider-totems. Julia wants to be there for Rachel first and foremost.

✗ CASSANDRA WEBB (616) didn’t ruin Julia’s life, but she definitely changed it. Without Cassandra, Julia wouldn’t be Madame Web and she’d still have her sight. The old woman dying had a lot of implications for everyone, and all Julia can do now is carry on her mantle and try to live up to her legacy.

✗ THE ORDER OF THE WEB → Although there are many on the team, Julia is their leader. She wasn’t elected into the position or anything like that. Her role as Madame Web made it come naturally. Julia takes her role very seriously and it takes up most of her time outside of what she spends with Rachel. The Web is both great and terrible and it needs a guardian. Julia -- in addition to Spider-Zero -- has stepped up to fill that role.
