I know I’ve been kinda MIA in regards to posting my own content. I’ve had an emergency irl that I’m still working through and everything. So, please be patient with me! I have been writing the Jeric fanfic I said I would, it’s going to be a fairly good sized oneshot that’s easy to read. I feel like I’m almost done writing it actually so I should get to editing in a few days. Not sure when the release will be yet, hopefully in just a couple more weeks though! Thank you for your patience and support! Have a very Jeric day 🤭💖
I'm still physically wiped out and my head's too fuzzy to do 'real' writing/revisions on my story, but I'm just coherent enough that I want to chitter-chatter about my fic.
So in the course of working on Choices, one of the things I've spent an inordinate amount of time on is figuring out the 'cohorts' for the valleyfolk. What I mean by 'cohorts' are the groups of people who are in a similar age-range to one another and then further subdivided into 'natives' (aka 'people who grew up together in the valley') and 'transplants.' After all, one of the things I'm trying to accomplish is interweaving three large expansion mods with the base game and coming up with a cohesive whole, and that means knowing who from the various mods have known each other basically forever.
Under the cut, I break down who's in what cohort. I may or may not later flesh out my thinking about why I plopped certain people into certain groups, mostly because when I started to do so with this list, the post grew disgustingly (more) bloated. If I do, I'll probably do a separate post for each cohort. After all, this is the site for rambling about this sort of random stuff, right? 😅 (Edit: that's exactly how I spent my afternoon. You can find my thoughts on each cohort here: Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3, Gen 4, Gen 5.)
If you squint just right, these could be considered spoilers for SVE/Ridgeside/East Scarp.
I divided the population of the valley into five different cohorts/generations. Ages are based on how old they are/would be during the course of Choices. They are also in order of eldest down to youngest. I have actual ages recorded for most of the characters, but it cluttered up this list waaay too much.

Yeah, I know there are characters missing (especially from East Scarp, as I have difficulty keeping track of all the individual NPC mods, and SVE), but there it is. I wonder if this is actually interesting to anyone other than me. Oh well. 😅
sharing my writing journey for 2024 (warning: this is long)
So, for 2024 I decided that I wanted to buckle down on my writing. I even bought a planner to keep track of my WIPs and other ideas.
I’ve now decided to write an entire fic before publishing it. That way, it’ll already be prepared and all I’ll have to do is have a deadline for editing a chapter and uploading it.
I will say, for my next long fic, it’ll be another Jeric story :pp !!! I wanted to try a new genre so I'm dabbling in it with this new fic. That’s all I can reveal plot wise, I'll of course drop little tidbits when I start the fic. I was going to work on it during Camp Nanowrimo but some stuff has been going on with that website and its mods so I'm not even gonna deal with them anymore. Instead, I'll use a spreadsheet to track my word count. For the next few months, I’ll be finishing up my current long fic (Two of Cups) and that’ll be my main focus for the time being. I want to finish it by at least June or July.
I'm entering a few writing competitions to get some extra change in my pocket 🤭 I'll, of course, share some original works that I've written up here, probably poetry bc it's better than my prose works. I entered one already and my school is going to hold a competition soon so I'm thinking about sending some poems to that one.
Over the summer, I'm going to try and fit in some time to work on my screenplay! Fingers crossed for me bc this is the first time I've done smth like this 🤞🏽 It's basically going to follow the plot of a novel I started in my freshman year of high school. But I decided to scrap the novel idea bc I thought it would be better as a movie!
Later on, I was planning on re-plotting my Cho Chang fic. I probably won't upload that until next year. It was also going to be a Nanowrimo project for November. I thought the plot was dumb so I'm fixing it up. I'm probably going to cross-post it to Wattpad even though I haven't used wattpad in FOREVERRR. But that's where I had planned to post it before and I already had a nice lil cover ✨
At the end of 2024, I'm hoping to get at least two longfics done and write at least three oneshots. I have an idea for a shawngela and jori (victorious) fic but since my agenda is full so far, we'll talk abt it later ;))

I think I’m going to post the prologue to Choices tomorrow, update with chapter 1 on Monday, and then continue with the schedule I have set up for Mondays and Thursdays. Partly, I’m doing this because the prologue is only about 2k (most chapters sit in the 4-5k range, though a couple are closer to 3k and a couple of others are closer to 8k), and partly because I’m impatient to start the thing, you know?
But it means I’ve been working on tags and a summary for Choices; this, in turn, has me contemplating what is Choices about? What sort of story is it? Why would anyone want to read it?
When I started writing Choices, I did so because I wanted to explore the characters from not just the base Stardew game but from three different mods as well—SVE, Ridgeside, and East Scarp—and how those characters would change because of all the other people that the original game and mods honestly can’t take into account. What’s Jeric’s relationship with Oliver, the governor, and Josephine considering they took him in off the streets before Oliver was born? What do the Bladebanes think of Mateo considering they’d donated quite a few of the original artifacts that were in the museum? Philip loves comics, Sophia loves anime and cosplay, Sebastian GMs Solarion Chronicles, and Henry still has a wide collection of Pokemon cards—do they ever get together and geek out?
But it’s hard to say that’s what the story is about.
There’s the obvious thing, right there in the title. It’s about choices, about the decisions people make, why they make them, and how those choices affect not only themselves but the world around them. It’s about the comforting lies we tell ourselves to make peace with a choice we’ve already made. It’s about the families we’re born into and the families we make for ourselves, about going back to a place from our childhood and trying to decide how much of that child still exists inside of us. What happens when you’ve spent your whole life running from your past, and then you are forced to confront it? What do you choose to do?
But that doesn’t tell you the flavor of the thing. It’s a nice overview from 30,000 feet up, but it doesn’t tell you the kind of story it is. Choices doesn’t fit neatly into any one particular genre, though Slice of Life probably comes closest followed by romance and maybe fantasy. There are elements of both comedy and tragedy, drama and fluff, and so many moments of hurt/comfort. It’s definitely a slow burn.
It does focus in on a particular subset of characters, mostly because there’s a cast of nearly a hundred characters if you combine all of those mods, but even then it’s a long list: Callie (the farmer), Sterling, Shane, Emily, Mia, Henry, Jeric, Philip, Shiro, Yuuma, Jas, Elliot, Leah, Mateo, Tristan, and on and on….
I suppose, in the end, Choices is the sort of thing that I like to read: long and complex with both heavy moments and incredibly silly ones, a great deal of foreshadowing, and the feeling that this is a world and community that lives and breathes even when no one is paying attention. And, honestly, if even five other people end up reading the bloody thing, I’ll be ecstatic; it’s incredibly niche. But I love Choices. I love this world that I’ve fleshed out and the people that live in it. I hope that a few of you decide to come along for the ride too.
