The…
Some friendship... (also I'm fucking up past and present tenses, but idgaf)
You know I just realized how absolutely humongous a crock of shit the whole Maya turning into Riley because she's getting better grades thing is, and that Riley only was accusing her of that because of Lucas. I mean, I knew it was bullshit before, but I never really though of how gigantic a 💩 it was until today.
Girl Meets Father is the fourth episode of season one. In that episode, Cory gives Maya an F on her test. Maya gets upset that she failed the test.
Maya tells Riley that "sometimes, I'm not so proud of who I am".
Maya tells Riley and Cory that she "tried to write like I was smart", Riley responds that Maya is smart.
Cory corrects Maya on one answer of the test saying "it's a tiny difference but an important one. Because if you know it, Maya, you don't fail". Maya then replies "I want to not fail".
Riley was encouraging Maya, while Cory was quizzing her on the subject of the test.
Maya says to Cory: "I just don't wanna fail, Mr. Matthews.
We go from that (Riley encouraging Maya to grow and better herself) to season three, Girl Meets Triangle, where Riley accuses Maya that the person that Maya has grown into is not who she really is.
Riley tell the art teacher that "Maya's a rebel". That Maya dances on teachers' desks, is the queen of detention and the president of Mayaville.
Riley is saying that Maya needs to be fixed because "she's been getting good grades, she's behaving all over the place".
Maya tells Riley, "I'm me! I've always been me, I'm always gonna be me! Nothings going to change that!", Riley retorts with"you haven't stood on a teachers desk or been in detention for a long time. You sold your house in Mayaville and you moved to Rileytown."
No matter what Maya says, Riley keeps insisting that Maya turned into her, blah blah blah.
Riley goes on about how Maya's style has changed towards Riley's style.
So, in the beginning of the series Riley was encouraging Maya to grow and do better. Maya even told Riley that she's not proud of who she is. Maya does mature and grow...
THEN Riley finds out that Maya likes the same guy as her. That can't happen, she can't have Lucas choosing Maya; so she accuses Maya of becoming her and wants Maya to become that failure that Maya thought she was in the beginning of the series (plus telling Maya that while Riley will have one husband, Maya will go through 5 husbands and that Lucas won't be one of them). Riley accuses Maya pulling the fire alarm, of stealing from the cafe (for me, that kind of accusation is something that a friendship can never bounce back from) and she basically forces Maya to revert back to the person she wasn't proud of being, to believe that she doesn't deserve good things or good guys... all because they like the same guy.
Thus, by the end of the series; Riley destroyed all of Maya's growth and forced Maya's regression and Riley became a hypocrite.
TW for the this chapter: Mention of a miscarriage, lost child talked about, brief mention of throwing up.
"What happened that's makin' you so concerned about Aud not likin' this poem? Which is very good, I might add."
Shawn stared at his hands and began to pick at the skin around his thumbs. Once again, Jon put his hand on top of his.
"Shawn?"
The teen pulled away and let his hands drop limply into his lap. "Nothin' I ever did was good enough for Mom."
Jon took a deep breath and prepared to hold back his temper and opinion on Virna.
"What happened?"
"Every year I tried really hard to make her happy," he said so quietly Jon had to lean over the table to hear him. "I couldn't really get her anything, you know. But I tried to make her stuff. She seemed pretty happy until I was six. That year she locked herself in the bedroom and I didn't see her all day. The next year she wasn't there and didn't come home for several months. The next year not even Dad was home, so I went to Cory's."
Ignoring his rising anger, Jon tried harder to focus on Shawn. "So Mother's Day was usually spent with Cory's mom?"
Shawn nodded.
"Last year, I tried to make breakfast for her, but I didn't do things right. I burned the toast on accident, and she ranted about Dad smokin' and stinkin' up the house, even though she smokes too." He looked up at Jon briefly, then stared at the window over his shoulder.
"She hates scrambled eggs, but they were all I could make at the time. She tossed my breakfast in the trash. She was more interested in lettin' the whole trailer park know what a loser Dad is. I tried to cheer her up by giving her the card I spent a really long time workin' on. I told her I loved her. She looked at the card, told me my handwritin' is so bad she can't read it and she doesn't like poetry anyway. She shoved it in the trash on top of the eggs and burnt toast. Then she left."
At that moment, Jon despised Virna almost as much as he did Chet. He could not imagine treating any kid the way Virna treated her son even if an ex-girlfriend showed up claiming her kid was his and lied about it.
It was cruel.
Shawn slumped over the table as he continued, "So I went to the Matthews and stayed there. Right before dinner, Mom showed up and acted like nothin' happened that mornin'. We got home and she spent the rest of the night complainin' about how ungrateful I am because I chose to spend Mother's Day with Mrs. Matthews instead of her and how that made her feel like a terrible mother."
Jon put his hand over his mouth and counted to ten so what he really thought about Virna did not come out. After a moment he reached across the table and took hold of the teen's arm.
"You didn't do anythin' wrong, Shawn. You did what every kid would do for their mom if they could. And you know Audrey isn't Virna. You could burn the kitchen down and she'd just teach you the basics of cookin' again and give you a fire safety lesson afterwards."
Shawn frowned at him then his expression softened. "You'd the burn the kitchen down before I would."
You figure out that it was your sister who let Cori in. But she did that without any vicious thoughts. Morpheus gave you an engagement ring and said you can return home and also your family can be present in the wedding in their dreams. And you also figure out that he gave a little bit of his power with ruby. Maybe, he did this unconsciously, because he was hurt. Anyway, you gave back his ruby when everything fell in place.
Father was worried until you return and tell him that you are alright. And also he was surprised that you are going to marry Morpheus.
“Are you sure?” he asked. “You know him for a week”.
“You just don’t know him well”, you replied. “He is so gentle. He will never hurt me. And I’m really in love with him”.
“Alright”, he sighed. “If you are happy, then I’m happy too”.
You couldn’t believe that this was really happening. You have met the man of your dreams and saved him from the curse. But now you were standing in your room in the Dreaming and looking at your reflection in the white, beautiful dress.
“May I come in?” you heard Morpheus’s voice.
“You can’t wait to see me in the wedding dress, admit it”, you smirked.
“I can’t wait to see you. Point”, he smiled.
You can’t take your eyes off him. At that moment, he was dressed in a black suit, and his hair wasn’t a mess. He was looking like a dream. So handsome, it was unfair.
“I was just thinking about what my life was going to be," you said.
“What do you mean?” he asked.
“Shall I stay here or in my world?” you asked.
“As you wish”, he said. “You can have your own life in the Waking world and we will share time in your sleep”.
“And if I want to stay here?” you asked.
“Then you’re welcome”, he replied. “Usually human can’t live there. Only after death. But I think my sister and I will find the solution”.
“After death?” you asked.
“Matthew and my other ravens were humans once”, he nodded. “After their death they stay there. They died in their sleep”.
“Oh, should I die then?” you said.
“No, I will talk to my sister”, he said and kissed the top of my head. “I don’t want you to be dead to stay here”.
“Good”, you smiled and hugged him. “But I don’t know how I can stay a whole day without you in the Waking world”.
“Someone became clingy”, he smiled.
“Maybe a little”, you replied. “Don’t make fun of me”.
“It doesn’t mean that I won’t come to you in the Waking world”, he reassured me. “Or that you can’t visit me during the day”.
“That’s good”, you said.
“I can’t wait till you become mine”, Morpheus whispered, hugging me tighter.
“I’m already yours”, you purred.
“Is this an invitation to skip to our wedding night?” he asked.
“Perhaps”, you giggled.
“You’re playing with fire”, he whispered.
“Oh really?” you smirked.
And he kissed you so passionately, you forget about everything else. You can’t believe this god of dreams and most handsome man is in love with you.
“I love you”, you whispered.
“I love you too”, Morpheus replied.
And then he made you forget everything that surrounds you again. You can’t believe your happiness. You already have the adventure and the love of your life. And you believe that everything will be good after that.
seeing anti-gmw discourse on the tl so i thought i'd add my two cents
gmw was an egregious hell fire that squandered a once beloved sitcom's legacy and there is not a single thing in three seasons of that shitshow that made it worth producing BUT you guys need to stop acting like bmw didn't also have blatant propaganda.
cult fiction is one of the most famous episodes of the show and the entire resolution is about shawn finding god bc he's pressured into filling the "empty void" inside of him with something other than the cult......the hypocrisy was going crazy. (they also make a big point about the power of prayer in resurrection when josh is in the nicu, but this is a far less offensive example bc the matthews had already been established as being at least somewhat religious.) like there is an entire scene in CF w the matthews guilting shawn into finding god bc he needs something to fill that void.
rider strong also spoke about the show's weird holier than thou view about sex. he got into an argument with michael jacobs about not just saying cory and topanga wanted to have sex, but to discuss safe sex options for them bc it was the respoonsible thing to do. as usual, rider is right and the show consistently put corpanga in a pedestal bc they weren't having sex. like.....at least once an episode in 6-pre wedding 7 they would talk about how their relationship is so mature and how they're the perfect couple (......while cory would berate topanga for not being comfortable w all that). there is an episode where cory/topanga call shawn/angela "sluts" bc they are having pre-marital sex (the misogynoir of this is not lost on me either)
the bmw-gmw universe has always had propaganda, you guys just didn't notice it when you were kids
Advocating for peace & ceasefire: An open letter to my representatives
Hi I am Sam-Amina Matthew-John Bailey, a lifelong Coloradan, I'm sending you peace and goodwill Senators Michael Bennet, John Hickenlooper, & Representative Brittany Pettersen
I must join the lively chorus of voices demanding we all do our part to unite for peace - as manifested by a deescalation of military force, advocating for Israel to cease fire, and defunding of the United States militaries role in the conflict occurring to this day in Gaza.
It is so urgent for us to take action to save the lives of innocent people of all ages. We have no business encouraging or spending our tax extracted dollars on this senseless violence.
Let's refocus on righteous ways we can benevolently spend our wealth that may benefit the health of our global community, such as enhanced public transportation, healthcare access, and housing unhoused peoples.
As an artist among political scientists I've found the people who you serve as a sitting Senator in Colorado generally share a passionate zeal for righteousness. There's a transcendental coalition of humans all across this state that, regardless of if they identify as Democrats, Republicans, or Independents, who are sincerely God fearing people. People who long to do good to others and love our neighbors.
Thus I both strategically recommend and supplicate myself to you as a voter in this state that your office becomes a vocal bastion of peace, demanding Israels ceasefire and the cessation of our peoples part in fueling genocidal missions in any part of the globe.
Cori Bush, Rashida Tlaib, André Carson, Summer Lee, and Delia Ramirez are leading such a movement in the House.
Thank you so much for your time, service, and consideration,
Happy Holidays Senator Bennet, Senator Hickenlooper, & Representative Pettersen
I will be praying for the wellbeing of you & yours,
Sam-Amina Matthew-John Bailey
Inshallah I'll share with y'all if my neighbors & elected representatives respond.
May they be well, experiencing luxurious peace in their lives.

HARTFORD WOLF PACK VS BRIDGEPORT ISLANDERS - PLAYOFFS ON THE LINE
By: Alex Thomas, Hartford Wolf Pack
HARTFORD, CT – The Hartford Wolf Pack conclude a brief two-game homestand tonight as they welcome the rival Bridgeport Islanders to town for a crucial matchup in the Atlantic Division.
Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m., and coverage is available on both AHLTV and Mixlr.
Tale of The Tape:
This is the season's 12th and final meeting between the Wolf Pack and Islanders. It’s the sixth and final time that the sides will meet at the XL Center in downtown Hartford. The Wolf Pack won their fourth consecutive head-to-head matchup on March 29th, taking a 4-1 decision in Hartford.
Paul Thompson opened the scoring for the Islanders 13:07 into the game, but the Isles would not solve Louis Domingue again. Jonny Brodzinski tied the game at 2:10 of the second period, firing home a shot on a two-on-one for his 19th goal of the season. Jake Leschyshyn then gave Hartford the lead for good at 9:49, sneaking a shot through Cory Schneider on the short side while on the powerplay. Karl Henriksson tipped home a point shot from Brandon Scanlin at 17:02 to make it a 3-1 game, allowing Hartford to pull away for good. Domingue made 16 saves in the third period, while Brodzinski scored his 20th goal of the season at 17:57, hitting an empty net.
The win was Hartford’s fourth in a row in the season series, giving them a 6-5-0-0 record. The Islanders are 5-6-0-0 head-to-head. The Wolf Pack was 3-2-0-0 in the five prior meetings in Hartford.
Brodzinski scored two goals in the last four meetings against the Islanders.
Wolf Pack Outlook:
The Wolf Pack won their fifth straight game on Wednesday night, knocking off the Toronto Marlies 2-1 in overtime. After going the first 58:48 without a goal, both teams struck in the final 72 seconds of regulation time.
First, Anton Blidh jammed home a rebound at 18:48 of the third period for his 12th goal of the season, putting Hartford ahead 1-0. With the net empty, however, the Marlies would find the equalizer at 19:47, 59 seconds later. Topi Niemelä fired a shot through traffic that found the back of the net for his first career AHL goal. In overtime, Hartford got revenge for a March 11th loss when Leschyshyn pounced on a rebound at 1:42 to push the Wolf Pack to victory.
Domingue made 30 saves for his seventh straight win. That marks the longest winning streak by a Wolf Pack goaltender this season. He now has 20 victories in his first season with the Wolf Pack.
Hartford’s current five-game winning streak is their first since a seven-game winning streak during the 2020-21 season. The club has won three in a row at home, tying their longest home winning streak of the season.
Brodzinski leads the Wolf Pack in points with 46 (21 g, 25 a) in 44 games. Will Cuylle, meanwhile, leads the team in goals with 24.
Islanders Outlook:
The Islanders are coming off an overtime win of their own, beating the Springfield Thunderbirds 4-3 on Tuesday morning at home. Thompson and Jeff Kubiak gave the Isles an early 2-0 lead, scoring at 2:30 and 12:03 of the first, respectively.
The T-Birds would score three unanswered from there, though, with Dmitrii Samorukov getting them started at 2:02 of the second period. Nikita Alexandrov would tie the game at 1:24 of the third period, while Keean Washkurak put them ahead at 2:52. The Isles responded at 14:25, however, with Chris Terry scoring to force overtime.
In overtime, Andy Andreoff came down the left wing side and ripped home the winner 3:41 in to keep the Islanders alive in the playoff race.
Terry leads the Islanders in scoring with 67 points (23 g, 44 a) in 62 games. Andreoff, meanwhile, leads the team in goals with 33. He sits second in the AHL in goals behind only Calgary’s Matthew Phillips, who has 34 on the season.
Game Information:

LISTEN: Mixlr
Play-by-play voice of the Wolf Pack, Alex Thomas, will have ‘Wolf Pack Pregame’ starting live at 6:45 p.m. on both AHLTV and Mixlr.

I honestly can’t understand the lack of…(sorry, I couldn’t stop myself) intelligence of Riley and Rucas (and Joshaya) fans and how they can possibly buy into the “Maya turned into Riley” and the “Maya never actually liked Lucas, she only liked him because she turned into Riley” bullshit? I guess it’s because they are stans of the character/couple, and they just don’t care about actual facts:
a) You can’t turn into someone else. It’s not frickin’ possible. People can change, but they can’t turn into someone else.
b) You either like someone or you don’t, it’s as simple as that (and again we’ll emphasize this point: you can’t use an excuse of liking someone because of “turning into someone”, see a)).
c) Trying to manipulate and convince someone to believe that they have changed their personality to become you and insisting that the only reason why they were interested in someone is because they turned into you… that is abuse.
This is exactly what Riley was doing to Maya. Insisting that Maya changed into her, insisting that Maya only liked Lucas because she became her, and that was also the reason why Maya was doing better in school.
Riley was doing that while also showing how low her opinion of Maya actually is: Maya will have 5 husbands, accusing Maya of pulling the fire alarm, accusing Maya of theft (if I was Maya, that would be the final nail in that friendship coffin).
Riley needs Maya to be inferior to her. Riley needs to be superior, it props her up. She can’t have someone from a broken home becoming better than her… and Riley’s absolutely can’t have Lucas pick some lowlife over her.
Also, I wonder if there’s something wrong with the Matthews family, period. Cory likes to take pot shots at Maya and her life… and then we have another gaslighter (and narcissist), Josh Matthews.
Josh loves the idea of Maya pining over him and waiting for him. Having someone fangirl-ing over him gives his ego a huge boost, and he’s not going to let that go. So, instead of using Riley’s gaslighting accusations, he comes up with another bullshit excuse: Maya only like Lucas because she was trying to protect Riley 🙄🤬. This way he kills two birds with one stone. He gets to keep having fawning over any scrap of attention he throws her way, while his niece gets the guy. Win-win for the Matthews.
It honestly makes me wonder the actual reasons of why GMW was cancelled. Was Disney getting complaints from parents over the way Maya was being treated? If I was a parent, I sure wouldn’t want my kid watching a show which was partly based on bullying and manipulating a character, never mind that it was the main character doing the bullying and manipulation.

So I'm using both Autumn in Philadelphia books because I know allure is in the first one. lol
Cloud: She did not want her brother, she wanted her father and since she couldn’t have him, she refused to interact with anyone but her mother. It was heartbreaking watching the little girl drape herself over Audrey’s shoulder while crying for Jon. It brought a dark gloomy cloud over Shawn.
Style: Hannigan’s was a cozy little bar and grill joint on the corner of 5th and Grant. It specialized in home style family cuisine, but in the evenings after nine, mixed drinks were the entree of choice.
Sweet: For a sweet moment, the years dissolved away. He lay down on the couch and put his head on the pillow. He felt Audrey’s fingers begin gently massage his scalp. With a happy sigh, he took that hand and kissed her palm before letting go. When he was fifteen and they would watch TV like this, Shawn would daydream that Jon and Audrey were married, and they had adopted him.
Whisper: His head spun, thoughts and emotion swirling at a dizzying rate. “I don’t understand,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper as he tried to sort through everything he thought he knew. “Cory said Jon married his nurse.”
Table: Julia was setting the table with earbuds securely in her ears. She glanced up from her job and locked eyes with him. Her blue-gray eyes held his gaze with an unblinking stare. There was no hint of expression on her face, just an unnerving look that went right through him. The look made him squirm a bit. She went back to what she was doing without a word to him.
Answer: Katherine paced the lobby of the Library anxiously. Eli and the Matthews boy had been running interference all evening with fishy tales of where Jon was and what he was doing every time she asked about him. Every time she called his room, Cory answered with some inane story: there was a spider in the girls’ room, Trini accidentally started a fire, Shawn was drowning in the bathtub. Eventually, Frankie Stecchino let it slip that Mr. Turner was out on the town. He had started to say more when both Eli and Cory jumped on him.
Wrong: “I always he felt like he was cheating on you,” he admitted, feeling foolish in light of the truth but desperate to explain himself. “I was so angry at him, even though he did nothing wrong. I hated every woman he brought home after you left. Everyone I thought he took home after I left.” He hadn’t meant to say that last part out loud. His eyes were wide with unspoken apologies.
Doubt: Audrey had left his side and was standing in front of him, looking at him expectantly.
“Come on, Shawn. Let’s go home.”
He looked up at her, eyes enormous with unspoken vexation and doubt.
“I’m not ready.”
Foreign: The concept of a generational home was a foreign idea to Shawn. Such a thing had never crossed his mind given his transient life from such a young age. Briefly, he wondered if he would ever have anything close to a history like that.
Stone: The trio exchanged greetings near the pair of stone lions that guarded the library entrance. It took a while for them to find a quiet, hidden spot to hole up in in the Main Reading Room, which was about 78 by 297 feet with a 52-foot-high ceiling. Although it was highly unlikely that they would encounter anyone they knew, the group decided it was better to be safe than sorry.
Vine (oh, you got me here, the closest I could get is Divine): Cory backpedaled through the store in a panic while trying to talk the bully down. He prayed for Divine Intervention; he’d lost his parents and friends in the crowd, and it seemed hopeless to find someone willing to help him.
Spirit: “To watch his spirit be broken down day by day,” he chuckled gleefully. “That’s what they do you know, my people. They take the strong-willed, the proud, the favored, and they break them into nothing.”
Katherine shared his delight and laughed. “I’m sure Cory will regret the day he went to Jon about you.”
Bloom: Totally stumped on this one. Couldn't even find it in the short stories.
Luxury (great words! I'll have to substitute with wealth): The Gold Coast was an affluent part of Western Connecticut. The area was home to many wealthy Manhattan business executives and was a bastion of wealth. The Gold Coast was most notable for its expensive waterfront properties located along its shore as well as the proximity of its cities and towns to New York City. Westport, Connecticut was ideally situated near the middle of the Coast.
Bright: “All right,” he said gruffly, his cheeks blazing bright red. He held his hand out to Shawn. “I want the five bucks.”
Shawn’s eyes sparkled with an impish gleam and his shoulders shook with laughter. He looked back and forth between the two on the couch before he gave Jon’s hand a hard slap.
“I don’t have five bucks. I just wanted to see you guys' kiss!”
Symbol: He watched the snow, yellowed with time, fall on the American symbol of freedom. Shawn was everything but free. He felt trapped, like he was imprisoned in a very tiny cell the walls of which were closing in on him.
Allure: A soft rap at the door interrupted his musings. He instinctively glanced up at the clock first; still four minutes to go until his meeting. He turned his attention to the doorway where a girl he didn’t recognize stood. She glanced around the room with wide stormy eyes. She would have looked as though she stepped off the cover of Allure if it hadn’t been for her apparent nervousness. She clutched a couple of folders in front of her
Spark: Well, at least what Minkus said to upset him now made sense. Jon was still baffled that Minkus of all people could spark this kind of reaction out of Shawn when no one else could. Anyone else would’ve come face to face with Shawn’s temper and fist. How in the world could Minkus send Shawn running to his classroom in tears? As far as he knew, the two hadn’t spoken to each other since the end of middle school.
Shower: Julia was sleeping in, so there was no one to fight over the bathroom. He stared at himself in the mirror and made a face. He had the worst case of bedhead. Determined not to go out with Jon looking like he’d stuck his finger in an electric socket, Shawn ended up in the shower. The entire time he worried about what he and Jon would talk about as this was his first outing with the superintendent as an adult.
Heat: Ms. Tompkins wasn't anyone special to him in that regard. Had it not been for her connection to Jon, she would have simply been one more teacher who couldn’t wait to get him out of her class. One he would not have remembered. However, the intense heat of the gaze of the people in the room was formidable and uncomfortable and he felt pressured into formalities he had no interest engaging in.
Jack Hunter and Eric Matthews: to celebrate @ambitionsource coming back, let’s appreciate one AAA’s finest faculty members- who put Cory Matthews in his place!
