Soo haven't read the thea sisters series for a while (Ive only remember reading the very old ones lol), but I have seen you (and maybe some people) complaint that the friendship stuff in the book is very on the nose or in your face. Is it... really that egregious in the newer books? Because I don't remember them being agresively friendship power in the older ones (aside from maybee ... the ice treasure? with the whole jealosy stuff tho they are not that aggressive).

Yeah the older ones were a lot more subtle with it, and even the most explicit example I could find (two scenes in the non-English translation of Shipwreck where Vi describes the friends as "friends worth a lifetime") was very wholesome and sweet and brought me to want to hold Violet gently in my hands and give her pats more than I already did. Ice Treasure was the girls maturely getting together to resolve a love triangle that would've torn the group apart had this been written in another series, and you have to respect that mature way of thinking.

But are they that egregious in the new books?

I wasn't intending for this sequence to sync up perfectly, but here we are. Each group of screenshots is from one book each.

Also these are from the special editions because they're the worst offenders but I don't doubt that there are some in the main series and Mouseford series but I dun wanna go find them let me live my denial fantasies--

It started off mild in Cloud Castle, when Vi does a heroic sacrifice and explains why she did it

As you can see, despite the clunky Scholastic translation, it's very wholesome and cute and you can tell how much Vi cares for the girls and how much the girls care for each other

And it's realistic!! You care for your friends, naturally you don't wanna see them get hurt (like genuinely hurt) and you wanna make sure they're okay.

A-as you can see tho in the later books it got worse... Like so much worse.

The screenshots above are in chronological order, so we have special edition books 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, and Treasure Seekers 1 and 3 (thank god book 2 kinda doesn't have it overtly). Next part will just be rough context blurbs of each of the scenes so you have a teeny bit of context. (Context ain't savin' these scenes tho)

Book 5 is set in an underwater fantasy world where there's this Mariana's Trench-like bit of nightmare fuel called the Infinite Abyss, where you look down and magic literally sucks you down into the abyss. Because of uh... reasons that were very (and I mean VERY) poorly written in the book that I sincerely hope is just the Scholastic translators being Scholastic translators, Vi ends up looking down while crossing over it, and she and Colette get yoinked down. Yes the scene after they've recovered is the cringiest bit of dialogue I've seen in my life. There is this one cute loom scene in the book that makes sense since the loom basically allows you to make a tapestry of your happy memories and the happiness you feel from that memory, but uh friendship was tied into it so uh eeehhhhh... The happiness part already made sense, you didn't have to tie the power of friendship into it c'mon :/

Book 6 is uh, apparently even in the original Italian it was kinda meh, and I wager the scene got carried over to English about the same. They're fighting this witch wanting to conquer the Land of Flowers, and Flora does a heroic sacrifice that jus,,, the attack jus dissipates as soon as it touwches her,,, why,,? powew of fwiendship that's why,,

Book 7 is... good god I could make an entire thing about it, but I'm torn between wanting to make a Tumblr post about it or a YouTube video about this book and how underwhelming it is, because I could wax eloquent for about a half-hour about why it's so disappointing and arguably the worst of the special editions, and some cute little animations or doodles from me would make it so much more entertaining and could sidestep getting clapped by Scholastic or EdiPiemme, hopefully? I dunno, maybe when I'm less busy with school.

Anyway what's wrong with Book 7? First of all uh the dragon is a redeemed villain type of thing and even if you read the book the thing doesn't make much sense. They tried to make him a misunderstood villain thing, but too little was done to add detail to that? All the important stuff involving him was done off-screen, and the uh him freeing his fiance from her gemstone prison is yeah, you saw it up there, I'm sure. Paulina gives him words of encouragement, she rolls decently in her charisma, and boop now he's hooman again and his fiance is free, yippee

Also the fiance?

This woman right here?

Don't be fooled by that basic fairy design, this woman is the literal personification of the power of friendship trope. For what little time she spends with the girls and helps them with the obstacles they have to deal with. They need to talk to this antisocial wolf guarding the next checkpoint? That's fine, she and the wolf are childhood friends! They need to get past this impossible labyrinth cave to get a super-valuable gemstone that the inhabitants of said labyrinth cave hold very dearly? That's fine, she met one of the fairies and helped her, so they're friends! Literally power of friendship personified. Thanks, I hate it :D

Book 8 is the book that exists. It's one of the special edition books ever for me, and the only thing cool that happens there is Nicky pulling a Robin Hood archery trial. Besides that? Eeehhhh... this scene in that book isn't so bad since the characters who do the power of friendship thing are actual magic fairies in this magic world.... but at the same time the girls making comments on it is making me die inside, did I mention these girls are uni students--

Book 9 is eeehhhhhhhhh.... it's an underwhelming finale for the special editions for one, for many reasons that could garner itself a ramble here, but eeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhh.... I'm just mad at the Violet slander ngl wHY DO THEY MAKE HER THE FRIENDSHIP PROPHET I GET SHE VALUES HER FRIENDS BUT SHE'S STILL A PRACTICAL LOGICAL WOMAN IN PERSONALITY YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO HER--

I stand by the fact that Treasure Seekers as a hardcover series for Thea Stilton is really good for those who loved the older books as a kid and are coming back for nostalgia. You read the first book and it feels like you're being welcomed back to the Thea Sisters you knew and loved back in the days of seeing the cool girlboss covers of the books in your school library and spending hours reading the cool adventures they got themselves into around the world (and even outside it). I dunno if they meant is as a homage to the older books, but it felt like it when I read it.

Anyway literally the only thing sullying these books is the power of friendship monologues in book 1 and 3. The worst part of it is that Violet once again is the one saying or thinking these things and it feels so out of character and out of place, like HELLO??? Vi sweetie the only thing stopping that shady businesswoman character from holding Pam at actual gunpoint is the 6-10 age range of the books? This ain't the time for the power of friendship??? Also who gave her the friendship ball and can they please let Violet punt it at them? Book 3 is the same-- I mean in this context uh I dun wanna spoil it so uh yeah, but Vi is basically disagreeing with the villain in this conversation they're having, and literally the only thing ruining it is her saying "the power of friendship" straight up. If she said "my friends" or "my sisters", it would've been so much better-- same goes for the time Vi is talking to the girls again and they ask her what she said in the previous one-on-one convo, it would've been better if she said something cute like "friends like you"-- but we can't have nice things huh, Scholastic? (Dunno if the original Italian one has the "power of friendship" one but I sincerely hope not, and it doesn't sound like it since the original Italian intro letter of book 3 went so hard--)

Vi deserves better smh -m-

Anyway there's my rant. Yeah, it does get really egregious in the later books. Where did we go wrong :(

Kart Racing bowuigi time, inspired by that infamous Luigi death glare

SO, Luigi takes racing very seriously, much more than most of the other pastimes he and his brother get involved with. Maybe because it's something he knows he's good at, maybe because he likes machines, maybe, somehow, going fast gets his blood pumping in a way that's not fear-based for once. It doesn't really come to much since everybody else mostly races for fun, but whenever Bowser starts trash-talking Luigi can't help but talk back.

Bowser doesn't mind, in fact it gets him even more fired up, and pretty soon the two of them have become rivals in this one very specific area. Once Mario is sure it's just trash-talking and Bowser doesn't mean Luigi any harm, he's even sort of supportive of it. Rivalry is almost like friendship and Bowser could use more of those.

Then Luigi shows up on race day with an injured arm. Bowser is furious. The injury won't keep Luigi from racing, but it'll definitely slow down his reaction time. How's Bowser supposed to gloat about his victory when Luigi's at a disadvantage? Who does he need to hurt in retaliation for this insult to his abilities?

Luigi is having none of this and replies that he could beat Bowser without using his injured arm at all. Bowser says fine! Prove it! Letting it rest will help you heal faster anyway!

(wait a minute)

Bowser does beat Luigi's time that race, but just like he thought gloating isn't any fun at all. Time passes, another race is comes up (maybe it's a tournament? I don't know how actual car racing structure works) and this time Bowser corners Luigi in an empty room to make sure Luigi is fighting fit.

There's trash talk, there's arguing, there's threats, and then they're looking at each other with their hearts pounding and blood pumping and suddenly all that passion turns into a kiss.

Making out, really. They only break apart when they both need to breathe, and even then Luigi can't remember why this is a bad idea. Bowser thinks it's the best idea he's had in years and suggests meeting up after his victory so he can show Luigi a new way to get pounded.

"First of all, who says it's new to me? And second, who says you're going to win?"

After some more back-and-forth, Luigi says, "Wanna bet?" Bowser says hell yeah he does, and they agree that whoever gets the better time gets to top.

It takes a while before what he's doing sinks in. Luigi never really thought of himself as someone who would treat sex like a game. The fact that it's Bowser he's playing with is a whole other level. But... is it really so bad, as long as they both want it? Just an agreement between two single adults. It doesn't have to be weird.

It's weird. But it's good, too.

After that the bet is on every time they race. From the outside it looks like Luigi and Bowser's rivalry has cooled a little bit. There's less trash talk, though it's no less pointed. A lot seems to be communicated between the two of them with just a glance and a gesture. If they hadn't already been seeking each other out every time it would almost be suspicious.

It's gone on for long enough that Luigi and Bowser have started getting more... creative when it comes to their bets, when something goes wrong. The track was pretty far from most of their homes, so the gang decided to stay overnight before and after the actual race.

And Mario catches Luigi sneaking back into his hotel room in the wee hours of the morning, with a very suspicious limp.

Luigi tries to brush it off, but there's a smug grin on Bowser's face when they're heading out, and he makes a joke being on Luigi's tail, and all of a sudden Luigi has to hold Mario back from throwing hands right then and there.

tries to (gently) push you over while you're doing the poses. can't help but burst into laughter at some of the incredibly strange poses that they instruct you to do. was looking forward to doing those crazy poses where he holds you in the air by his feet, but it was a beginner class so he didn't get to n he was very disappointed about that </3

found it really fun, to his own surprise. was originally rlly reluctant and only went along bc you really wanted to do it, but he liked the idea of couples yoga strengthening the emotional connection between two people. his favourite pose was that one pose where you essentially just sat cross-legged opposite each other and hugged with your foreheads touching

good luck trying to get this guy out of the house/ his studio lmao. almost bursts out laughing with you at the very strange poses you have to do, but manages to keep it in by Not looking at your increasingly confused and alarmed face. he feels fine as you two are leaving the class, but he wakes up the next day with his calves aching so bad

another person who probably booked the session for you two. you've both done yoga before (him bc he wanted to and you bc he'd insisted it was good for you) and couples yoga sounded fun so you both wanted to do it. grabs onto you like a lifeline and giggles every time he slips or almost falls over. is already thinking of buying another yoga mat for you so you two can do this stuff at home

almost fell down a total of 5 times. is Determined to do the poses well tho, bc he doesn't wanna make you look bad in front of the others even tho you don't mind bc they're literally just strangers. kind of enjoyed it? he's not sure, he's just wondering how cheap the budget of the building was for them to make the ceiling so low that his head is only 3 inches away from it when he stands up

his center of balance is pretty firm, okay, but he has really sweaty hands which is kind of a disadvantage bc most of the poses involve you two holding hands. tries his best not to scream so loudly, instead lets out the most adorable yelps when he feels wobbly. had fun!! would definitely do it again… maybe in like 2 months

he is Offended when he heard you booked a beginner class for you two. complains about it on the way there, and then struggles during the class bc what do you mean you're going to have to put your feet on his knees??? he can't hold up your legs like that. very loud. and dramatic. has managed to make friends with at least 2 other couples there. somehow.

initially tells you that no thanks, he's not up for that bc he is definitely not flexible enough for yoga. eventually ends up agreeing tho, and is sitting next to you on the mats listening to the instructor and wondering how the hell he ended up coming here. kind of zoned out the entire class, but you tell him you had fun so he guesses he did too. 

chan:

LOVES the idea of couples yoga. was waiting for you to suggest it and then immediately says yes when you offer. goes out and buys the two of you matching yoga pants an entire week before the session. he's a little wobbly, but he helps balance you whenever you look wobbly and is beaming so hard the entire time. has a great time. has the greatest time, actually.

For most of the week, Floyd's committed himself to following you around like a lost puppy. It was amusing the first day (and ominous to those who weren't aware of his involvement with you), but now it's Friday and you're beyond fed up. It was one thing to watch him seat himself beside you at lunch, thereby snatching Ace's usual spot, but it's another entirely to have him wait outside of Ramshackle to pick you up.

He's determined. You weren't expecting he'd last through the week. You're not particularly entertaining when you're so focused on your own priorities, but somehow that hasn't deterred him.

"Do you need something?" you ask, shutting and locking the door. Grim left before you, but now you almost wish he was here. The tension, though not as thick, is still troubling to navigate.

"Nah. Just wanna shadow ya today."

"You've done that all week."

"Shrimpy's been interesting all week."

You roll your eyes and stride ahead. He easily falls into step beside you, his hands stuffed in his pockets. It's quiet for all of two minutes before Floyd decides to break it.

"So what's up with not calling me back?"

"You'd know since you were following me all week." You peer up at him, arms folding sternly over your chest.

"That's just it. I don't."

"I was busy, Floyd."

"Busy," he parrots with a slight frown. "Mmkay."

"I need to study for a few upcoming exams."

"I getcha."

"So you can't distract me."

"I'd never."

"I'm serious. I need to get my grades up. I'm on the verge of falling behind."

"So I'll study with ya."

"Absolutely not."

Floyd pouts. "It ever occur to you that I wanna spend time with you outside of sex?"

"Not once."

"Well, I do."

"I highly doubt that." When he doesn't justify that with a retort, you add, "I haven't been ignoring you if that's what you think."

"I never said that."

"Okay... So why're you so hung up on me not calling you back?"

For a slim second, you think he looks conflicted. There's doubt in those normally bright two-toned eyes of his. But then it's gone, quick as a flash, and Floyd's back to wearing his sticky smile.

"'m not hung up. I was gonna ask ya somethin' real important."

"And you couldn't text it to me?"

"Nah. Calling's better." Floyd skips ahead towards the building. "You doin' anything for break?"

"Probably not."

He turns to look at you. "Cool."

You hurry to catch up, taking the stairs two at a time. "Why? Are you?"

"Yeah. I'm not gonna have my phone, so we won't be able to call."

"What? But... Oh, right. The sea." You wonder if you'll miss him during those two weeks. It'll definitely be quieter. "Have fun."

The both of you come to a halt in front of your classroom. He smiles at you. It looks sincere enough, almost hopeful.

"You could come with, y'know."

"To the sea?"

"Where else? Jade 'n I will show ya around. Take ya to our favorite spots."

"I'll think about it."

"Aren't you writing a paper on merfolk? You could study 'em up close if you came with. I'll even letcha check me out for your research."

You raise a curious brow. "Is that the 'real important' thing you wanted to ask me?"

"Maybe. I'll tell you if you come with. I'll get Azul to make you a potion. He'll do it."

"What's the catch?"

"No catch."

"Where would I stay?"

"My parents' place. They'll let you. Won't be a problem at all." He tilts his head at you. "Sooo, you comin' or not?"

"Um... I don't know. I'll think about it."

"Sure. Lemme know when you decide." Before he takes his leave, he adds, "I bet your paper'll be a real hit. Might even get you back to passing."

You scoff. "I can write it without your help."

"Of course you can. I never said you couldn't." And then he's slinking off to his classroom, his giggle still bouncing around inside your brain.

When you find your seat in class and dig your textbook out of your bag, a startling thought hits you: Wait. I'd stay with him at his parents' place?!

Just what are you getting yourself into? More importantly, why do you feel so inclined to agree?

No but what do you think younger Rafe is like?? I’m talking like 12 year old Rafe. Do you think he be one of those obnoxious elementary school boys that think they are so cool? Do you think he was a good student or not. I mean he graduated eventually but idk if he would struggle with school or not. Or if he got along well with his sisters at one point? I wanna hear your opinion on this!!

so this ask marinating in my box because i was going to write something long about it but i'm stupid?? so anyways (let me know if y'all want more about this au)

1.) rafe is so obnoxious when he was younger, always up tree tops, diving into the pool, and yelling about how he was the king of the forest. he was always the king of something with his loud voice

2.) he definitely thinks he's so cool, and he hates the way you disregard him with your pretty pink princess dress, and little tiara. you glare at him from distances, and tell him that you'll turn him into a frog

3.) as the two of you grow up, you become more academically focused, not paying attention to the lean rafe who towers over you when you check out books. he comes into the library to make fun of you, and you roll your eyes at him, perfect manicured hands on your math books, and emily bronte

4.) he hates it all, but enjoys the look on your face when you get focused. he hates to admit it but he struggles at school, looking at the pages of the words until they start to move. it gives him a big headache, so who cares about school? but he sees you hanging around the academically smart boys, the ones that know all the answers and decides to crack open a book.

5.) quickly enough when he gives it a try he doesn't figure it out, so instead he asks you to tutor him. you look surprised, looking up at him with his letterman jacket and agree. he looks amused at the way you flush when he asks. maybe he has some sort of effect on you.

6.) the tutoring lessons work so well, and with your soothing gentle voice, and soft hands to guide him the way. suddenly he sees the way you see everything, as if you were the key to it all.

7.) he gets along with his siblings, especially wheezie who's old enough to get teased by him. he's mean to her sometimes, but there is some sort of softness with the two of them, the black sheep of the family. one thing that i feel would happen between them is wheezie forgetting to make a science project, and wobbles over to rafe.

8.) within 1 hour rafe has made a full display for her, his face orange with sticky fingers, hair ablaze. he has a proud dad smile on his face, sneaking into the science exhibition to just look at his sister. wheezie is laughing too, looking up at her big brother with happy eyes.

9.) it all goes downhill when he tries to make a pass at you in tutoring, giving you a soft kiss on the lips. he pulls away thinking that it'll be fine, but you had a suprised expression on your face, "what was that for?" and he smirks, "what do you think?"

10.) you run out after 10 minutes of that encounter, and rafe stands on the sidewalk next to tanyhill watching you pedal away.

he'd just lost the best thing in his life.

so invested already. if you'd be willing to give a rundown on your danny phantom rework thoughts...?

So this is a project I've been doing entirely on the side and is purely conceptual, at least for now. The majority of the art I've done for it are just Sketchbook doodles, haha. I've been calling it Phantom Redux!

Phantom Redux is a complete reboot of Danny Phantom, featuring new designs, new story, old story done better, etc. The set-up for the story is the same, Danny Fenton, while messing around in his parents' ghost lab, accidentally activates the ghost portal, giving him ghost powers, but also busting the door wide open for ghosts to invade Amity Park. And so, Danny takes it upon himself to capture these ghosts and send them back to the ghost zone!

But while the set up is the same, it'd be tackling things that the show wouldn't/couldn't/did poorly, in particular it'll be extremely gay, and obviously Danny will be a trans boy. I do also plan on depicting ghosts slightly differently, while they are connected to the living they are not literally a dead person who came back with cool powers.

-Sam: "Are you dead???" -Tucker: "Could you try to sound a little less excited?"

Episodes would be generally episodic but with overarching story arcs, much like in the original show, but will lean more into the fun horror side of things than in the superhero pastiche, I think we can all agree those were the least-interesting parts of the original.

This is of course all hypothetical for the moment, as the ghost boy does not yet belong to me, but Danny Phantom is the show that I think deserves a reboot the most right now (and also Gargoyles tbh,) and my reboot will be fantastic when Nickelodeon is destroyed for their crimes/I have the time to put this into motion.

That's the most basic rundown, but I'm happy to get more specific, if there's anything else you wanna know about!

The WIP Questionaire

Thanks so so much from @verba-writing for the tag! I had such a fun time reading your answers too and I'm very excited for paranormal romance 😍

I feel like I wanna flag that a lot of my answers are very anime/gaming-sphere oriented and I hope I'm not totally alienating my mutuals by revealing just HOW MUCH I'm not a book person lololol But this is with what we're working:

The Questions are:

1. What was the first part of your wip that you created?

The very first thing I made was the high premise: It was synthesized from the Overly Sarcastic Productions question "What if all the Kings Under the Mountain came back...?" and then I added the context "...in a Nuclear Crisis to discuss piece?" And in my head, it was this HBO-style modern fantasy Game of Thrones meets West Wing type deal. But then... I didn't want to write the modern piece. (The modern piece should be written by people in countries from all over Europe about what it means to be a hero in various cultures.)

So I set it in 1800s fantasy world instead!

2. If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?

The first arc would be Dance in the Game by Zaq

The second arc would be Lacrimosa by Kalafina

The Gods' Arc would be Paper Boquet by Mili

3. Who are your favourite characters you've made? Why?

Is it to cliché to be like "my current self-insert protagonist is my favorite character I've ever made"? Her and my antagonist are just THE BEST and I love them.

4. What other pieces of media do you think would share a fan base for your story?

Mmm, I think Untitled Yssaia Game's story would appeal to queer Game of Thrones fans who could FEEL the straightness in GoT, especially if they also like anime. I would hope I could get general anime fans as well as Arcane and Genshin Impact fans, but I feel like those are too mainstream and Yssaia is not. Realistically, I think I'm gonna get the Wadanohara people and the Ib people and, if I get really lucky, the To the Moon people.

5. What has been your biggest struggle with your wip?

Marketing lol -- explaining what it is to people in a way that they realize they want it.

6. Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them!

They walk or ride Rumateurs (which are alpaca-like beings with ossicones) or take ships or airships or trains. I don't like writing about travel that much though so it is a background element.

I am pre-editing the first arc for my alpha readers and the third arc has another 50k to 100k words to draft. We're at like 250k words total right now and it is so unwieldy 😭😭😭

Summary: it’s your birthday and Wandas looking for you, she doesn’t know why you don’t want to celebrate your birthday but when you tell her she makes it her mission to make sure you have a happy one

"Has anyone seen Y/n?" Wanda was walking through the compound looking for you, she had a surprise for you but it was useless if she couldn't find you.

"I think I saw her on the roof" Nat replied "is she excited about her birthday?"

Wanda shrugged "I think so but I made her a birthday breakfast this morning and she wasn't too excited" Wanda was confused, she thought you’d be really excited about your birthday like she normally is but you acted as if it was any other day.

Nat patted the witch on the back bringing her out of her thoughts "she's probably a little nervous, it's her first birthday with you, you know what she's like"

Wanda nodded "yeah, I guess, okay get ready for the party later and I'll bring her down"

You were in fact sat on the roof lay on your back with your eyes closed enjoying the cool breeze coming over you in small bursts

“Nat told me she saw you up here, are you okay my love?” Wanda’s voice surprised you and you jumped up “oh hi! Er yeah I’m okay just needed some alone time”

Your girlfriend sat down next to you bringing you into a hug kissing your forehead “wanna tell me why you’re not excited about your birthday?”

You should've known that you couldn't hide your feelings from a mind reading witch "who said you could read my mind?" You said softly making Wanda frown "I'm not? I'm capable of reading people's emotions without delving into their minds princess, and I know you're feeling upset"

You sighed feeling bad that you presumed your girlfriend would read your mind without permission "I'm sorry Wanda I just-I've just never been a fan of my birthday, no one ever wanted to celebrate with me so, I just never bothered, my friends didn’t like I what I like so it felt more like a forced chore they were doing, I didn’t want that to continue”

Wanda's heart broke, she could never imagine not celebrating her or her friends birthdays "oh honey I'm so sorry, well those people were idiots not to celebrate your birthday, we're gonna have so much fun! Come on" she jumped up trying to get you to go with her but you remained still "baby?"

"Is there a party downstairs waiting for me?" Wanda shifted nervously "...why do you think that?"

You chuckled "I saw the worlds best Assassin fail to creep through the compound with balloons and a cake under her arm"

Wanda groaned "worlds best Assassin my ass, well now that you know you should also know Tony got you a pretty cool present"

This peeked your interest "oh? A present from the billionaire playboy philanthropist? Maybe I will come down" you jumped up kissing Wanda on the cheek and walking past her "oh so you'll move for a expensive present but not because your loving smart sexy girlfriend made a party for you?"

You knew she wasn't really upset but you spun around back to her and hugged her tight "sorry honey, I'll make it up to you later"

"Oooh and I thought it was your birthday not mine" she moved her lips to yours kissing you softly making sure it didn't escalate, she didn't want any peeping drones watching you two, not again anyway, Tony didn’t want a repeat of Valentine’s Day.

"Are you feeling better?” Wanda whispered to you and you nodded "sorry, it'll just get some time getting used too, having my birthday celebrated"

Wanda kissed your forehead "that's okay but you should know every year the parties will get bigger and better and it'll be the best day of your life and mine, until the day I ask you to marry me of course"

You pulled back surprised searching for any joke on Wanda's face but didn't find any "what??"

She smiled "you heard me, one day I'll ask you to marry me, nothing too elaborate, just me and you some flowers, maybe Nat holding a camera but she'll have her mouth tapped shut so she can't make her snarky remarks"

You would say you're a little surprised but honestly the first date Wanda pretty much asked you to move into her in the compound, she claimed it was for safety but a few months in she admitted she wanted to keep you close, you didn't mind you didn't have to pay rent or buy groceries, what woman wouldn't want that?

"Okay Wands, nothing too big though okay?"

"No sky writing?" She pouted and you smacked her lightly on the arm "let's just go downstairs"

He stood up and dramatically turned around pressing a button opening the pod in the room revealing an exact replica of his own iron man suit but in purple, what was going on?

"What do you think?" He said looking back at you "you made a new suit in a different colour?"

Wanda slid up behind you holding you in her arms "that's your present"

"Fuck off!" You shouted jumping from her arms towards the pod scanning it and seeing your name on the arm "oh my god can I come on missions now?!"

Wanda stepped in before Tony could say yes "no! It's just for show and to maybe like fly around the building"

Clearly Wanda didn’t think you’d want to go on missions, like she said, just to fly around the building and shoot some targets

The group laughed at Wanda's ridiculousness, of course you were going on missions with them, why else was Tony would make a new suit "don't worry Wanda the widows said they'd look after her" Tony tried assuring her

"The 'widows' are looking after her, that's not gonna go well"

"Baby come on it'll be great! We can kill people together, that's so romantic"

Wanda stared at you strangely but also worriedly "how do you know I kill people?"

You shrunk a little under her gaze glancing to Nat but Wanda saw ir "Nat! Do you tell her I kill people?!"

Nat smiled and nodded "you're damn right I did, she loves hearing the stories"

Wanda sighed heavily deciding to stop talking and take a glass of champagne from the table downing it in one "I'm glad you love your new suit baby, but time for cake!"

You laughed bringing Wanda into a kiss tasting the sweet remnants of the champagne she just drank "you taste as sweet as the alcohol, I can't wait to taste you more later" you kissed down her neck making the witch giggle.

"Hey!" Tony clapped his hands separating you from Wanda "no intercourse at the party until we've all left"

You laughed "you all want to leave then?"

Nat threw a cushion at you throwing you off a little "you're insatiable Y/n, I'm surprised Wanda can walk after being with you"

can i ask how you get the motivation to write? ive been writing for most of my life but i have such a hard time sticking with it

Honestly it just comes from the overwhelming desire to create. In a perfect world, I would rather animate or make comics, but my life is short on time, so I write instead. I can take my fic with me everywhere, squeezing in writing time while in lines or alone in the office or whatever. It's versatile.

For long projects specifically, it helps to have a plan. You don't have to outline everything [though I know people who do that]. Knowing you have a premise and a major climax somewhere is sufficient. The premise is interesting to you, the major climax is the very cool finish line you want to cross. Setting that goal of "write until you write the thing you desperately want to write" keeps me going. It's why I write chronologically instead of cherry picking scenes I have ideas for and then filling in the blanks later. I treat those scenes like they're dessert. You want it? Work for it :3 not to say cherry picking is a bad thing. I know plenty of people it works for. I just know myself, and if I give myself the fun payoff when I want it, I won't slog through the rest.

In the shorter term other things that help:

Making music playlists or mood boards or whatever. Give your brain a reason to keep picking at the story outside of the story context. Make it fun to work on. Don't feel like writing but don't want to forget you have a project? Add songs to the playlist, look up photos for setting inspiration, make a Tumblr tag for quotes. It has the added bonus of helping your story along, and giving you a reason to make the world and characters better.

Don't be afraid to drop it. Like, seriously. I know this whole post is about motivation, but nothing kills a project more than getting insanely guilty about said project. You're allowed to take days, weeks, months, years to rest on a project. Just because you put it down doesn't mean it'll stay down, and agonizing over putting it down will just ensure it's harder to pick up again. If you're staring at a project and you would rather do literally anything but work on it, don't work on it.

Uhm, counter to that, if it's been awhile and you're scared to start again? Just write gibberish. I have a section on every large document called "cut pieces" where I slam out the most dogshit writing and after I get warmed up, I cut it and put it at the bottom of the doc. For two reasons. The first being you've got the swing of things so you can get rid of all the practice you did getting to that point. The second being it might not be as bad as you think it is. Someday you're gonna remember that dialogue, and you're going to want to salvage it.

Keep aids handy! Especially for things that bring you trouble. For me it's descriptions. I love descriptions, but I often have trouble thinking up good ones or I have something specific in mind I can't nail down, or I've been staring at a wall for an hour trying to think of a good way to describe clouds and I can't. So I keep a description document, full of descriptions from books I've read or previous ones I've written, that I can use as a jumping off point. It speeds things up, keeps me from dithering on something stupid, and sometimes someone already described the perfect cloud, yanno? [As before so again, if anyone wants my description document, feel free to ask. It's massive and it's organized.]

Never stop at the end of a chapter. Well, you can stop at the end of a chapter sometimes it's 2am and you just wanna write [Chapter 11] on the header and go to bed. But normally I like to keep writing a few more paragraphs? So when I start [Chapter 11] I'm not staring at a blank page. Blank pages will always win a staring context. Put an I there so it blinks instead.

Change your document color. Like the paper color? White is so mean sometimes. My screen is black with white text. Other writers I know swear by lavender or green. White is just so hard to break man there's just something about it.

Last one but, keep reading. Like, why do you want to write? Because you want to tell a story sure, but why do you want to tell a story? Well, probably because you read a good one somewhere, and you want to give other people that "I read a good story" feeling. So keep reading. One of the most motivating things you can do is remind yourself why you're slaving over a hot keyboard.

ok so.

i get it.

i get why jim and oluwande didn't leap back into one another's arms upon reuniting.

see. at the end of s1, the show did what i in hindsight think was kind of a stupid thing. it had THREE couples. and it separated ALL of them.

and i suspect the thinking went 'well we can't have all three couples reunite at the same time when the crews meet up again! that'll be repetitive and boring!'

and that's fair. it would be.

(which is why separating all three couples was stupid)

so they decided to have three DIFFERENT reunions:

Ed and Stede, a troubled, stormy, hugely passionate reunion, epic romance, merman etc

Lucius and Peter, a rocky but much less volatile 'oh thank god you're alive! marry me!' reunion

and Jim and Oluwande, a super chill 'oh hey, missed you' type reunion, where the separation ended up undoing the relationship

if you're going to have 3 similar story events occur at the same time (which.... you shouldn't, but if that's the corner you've written yourself into), then you want those 3 events to be as dissimilar as possible.

i get it.

here's what i would have done instead:

swap J+O with L+P

because J+O are the more interesting relationship; the one s1 spent more time getting us invested in. it makes sense that it should continue, or at LEAST get a big, heartbreaking ending, instead of them basically breaking up offscreen. imo THEY should have been the couple that got married in s2! that seems obvious to me!

and L+P..... well, i like em, they're cute, but like, a. the audience is naturally less invested in them because we didn't see them get together, b. 'we don't own each other' but suddenly they're monogamously married eh?? and c. lucius on the whole didn't work in s2.

Jim's core comedic role has, from the start, been The Serious One with the Big Dramatic Quest!

give JIM the rocky, passionate reunion! let Oluwande leap into Jim's arms! let Jim be angsty and recover! let Jim propose marriage!

Therunawayupdates!

Right everyone, Hello people! This is a long post so buckle up!

You all know or at least have heard the basic idea when it comes to this little project/initiative within the server which was kinda inspired by what missmonsters used to do on her discord server as well as just Jo…just a constant inspiration.  As of right now, this is a project initiative thing that is starting up/being held on my Discord Server and hopefully maybe sometime in the future it'll be posted/work somehow through Tumblr

This is a fun initiative for writers both experienced and inexperienced to take part in! We all know writing can be very fucking tedious at times…so why not add prompts into that mix? That always has the chance of being quite ridiculous and crazy! That’s all part of the fun, right?

As of right now the plan going forward is there will be prompt drops a few times a month there isn’t a set schedule for this initiative like it is all subject to change and adapt if people feel like they’re getting too many prompts or maybe even possibly not enough prompts! In addition to that the only time there should some sort of schedule is if someone or multiple people who is participating want to start a prompt challenge with one person or a group of people it is in those circumstances there is a deadline aka a schedule. 

Now I imagine the prompts on some occasions are probably gonna be wild, crazy, ridiculous and whatever else you can possibly think of. With that it is in my head that maybe once a month at least at some stage throughout this lil project there will be prompts…ideas?....inspirations? Given out…picked? For people taking part in this and what I mean by that is I do like the idea of fics being inspired by movies, books, TV Shows literally any medium you can think of. I do think it would just be a really fun and cool experience for people and seeing the progress of it all. 

One thing I do wanna make clear is there is no one set person running this thing, I didn’t wanna risk the chance of ruining the fun and spontaneity of this lil project by just assigning one person to be in charge. Unless there is like a big announcement or like as I mentioned before the assigning of prompts for fics such as a movie, TV shows, books etc, it is all between the group of people taking part which I’m hoping will be a nicer experience and rules won’t be needed. Though if it is needed I feel like you all know by now you can contact me or one of the mods and we’ll get whatever it is under control. 

I think that’s everything…..besides well okay the tumblr blog @runawayswrite that is going to be used for reblogging the fics that were created and written using the prompts discussed in that channel. The tags that will more than likely be used for that blog/submissions will probably be #RunawaysWrite and #RunawayPrompts. Now I’m also including #RunawayPrompts because I’m thinking depending on how the prompts go I will also post them to Tumblr for the vast amount of writers on this hellsite, just for an added thing for fun even if it was just random followers adding a silly lil thing to this whole initiative that I thought would be nice and fun especially if they didn’t have Discord or straight up didn’t wanna join. 

This post is just letting people and other writers know on the off chance that they do wanna join the discord and participate or just participate through Tumblr at some stage even if that is at a later date. If people do wanna join my discord do just send me a message!

Leaving it up to Tumblr to choose my next comic chronology in like... 2 months when I'm free of green lantern (2 months is not very generous I fear)

Reasoning under the cut :3 (very long)

Duke- pretty short (less than 200 issues), I really like his character from what I've seen of him. I think it will also be hell (as is the nature of most batman adjacent chronologies) but it'll be worth it... Nice and short one and also swag character

Jefferson- 1. Black lightning is very fun early on and 2. I've already made the spreadsheet so I just have to read it. He's just like... A very cool character and I like him a lot so far. I just am gods scaredest soldier with long chronos (which his isn't too bad but it's ALSO batman adjacent and those are so scary)

Barbara - my best friend Babs but also if I have to reread the killing joke I AM killing Alan Moore ok. In theory I love her SOOOO much. In practice I think the fact I'm having to keep a "how bad is the disability rep" counter next to each issue says a lot. Unfortunately. Also already made this spreadsheet but I think it would be a very bad and good time.

Clint- again in theory would be fun. He seems right up my alley but alas if I have to see Tony Stark I do fly into a blind rage. And unfortunately I think he appears a lot... And also unfortunately I think I would suffer due to blonde man disorder ok (as I always do)

Silhouette+Aaron- package deal bc they're siblings. I've already started this one and then stopped because whoever is writing the early stuff SHOULD go to hell for what they're doing. For those unfamiliar, silhouette is one of the only heroes I've ever seen using forearm crutches (pretty awesome) and her power is that she can kind of travel via shadow iirc? Which would be really cool if they didn't like... Make her lose all her clothes and mobility aids when she's doing this. Which is why I quit. But she's very very cool minus that (and in my mind... I know she's written better later on) and her brother is his own can of worms (in... Definitely a way). In theory tho I rly gotta get through their stuff

Theodore - first off: I am a FIEND for marvel 70s horror comics. Second off: he is better than swamp thing. Third off: his big red eyes. But to be serious though like .. the Steve Gerber and Gerry Conway era of man thing is SO good and like .. political in an interesting way. I just need motivation to get around to it. Also he's cutesy ok!!!

Jason Blood- another consequence of the 70s horror era fan but this guy has CRAZY lore. He's a medieval knight who got possessed by a demon thanks to Merlin and then he's just lived through the centuries and become an occult guy. Reasons why I stopped this one - sometimes old horror comics are bad and horrible. And also a like 60 issue Garth Ennis written series. But I do really wanna finish his stuff bc he's like .. DC's version of Hellstrom (which. Genuinely awesome character, if you're interested in older horror comics def check his original run out <- my plug for my silly husband hellstrom who sucks so much or whatever. He's rly good tho seriously)

Jennifer - I've already made her spreadsheet and started it but the writers are soooo fucking bad most of the time. It's actually horrific. Pros for her- pretty good character when written well (her hellcat series stuff was REALLY nice for me. But I'll always hype up patsy walker aka hellcat at any chance) cons for her- the misogyny ... And my reward for finishing it is watching the she hulk show. So take that as you will

Dracula- I started his stuff bc I was PROMISED Gerry Conway (who is like.. one of my top 5 writers. He does amazing old horror comics and made a bunch of very cool characters). And then he left like 2 issues in and it went downhill. Some of the same authors who did some of the good (other marvel vampire who is redacted for my own safety ok) issues did stuff for drac. In theory this would be silly campy 70s horror comics fun. In practice oh my god I am gaining new authors to hate so bad...

i think that otouto works so well as a trio is that theyre able to like. take on specific roles that osomatsu usually provides for the six, so otouto can function pretty well without him because theyre able to do that

like todomatsu, most of the time, can and will take the lead when the younger trio are seperated (im including fesmatsu bits those are canon and i love tjem), hes able to point them all in a direction and usually suuji will follow (unless they have a different idea on how sth should be handled in which case theyll be like Um. No<3 GDJF) because totty makes decisions and makes them quickly and hes generally p smart about em too, hes a conniving little trickster of a man and is good at getting his own way which does translate p well into leadership skills (a counterpoint could be if he doesnt wanna do something he wont but this is abt what they Can do not what thay Do okay alright BDNDV)

ichimatsu has a calming disposition and also generally takes that role in the group as a whole, but its v prevalent in otouto, the amount ichimatsu asks the others Are You Okay? and tells them It'll Be Alright Because X, Y and Z is very very sweet like he is actually extremely caring

and jyushi brings the lightheartedness and levity needed in the group, like he would never let any situation get too serious or sad like thats prevalent through yhe series he just doesnt like seeing people he cares about upset or sad and he can and will attempt to remedy that

all of these are traits that osomatsu exhibits when he bothers to put his big boy older brother boots on, osomatsu, obviously the leader they have and will continue to follow his lead for ever, hes extremely caring and calming when he isnt the one causing the scene what needs to be calmed and hes able to provide levity whenever the rest of em are like ouh :(

obviously theres a lot of other things in otoutos dynamic that make them work (ie. they like each other HDNDV) and having the same kind of traits as The Leader isnt necessarily what makes them work well but the fact that yhey have those spread among them is cool and fun and interesting and def is a contributing factor smile

ani on the other hand. mmmmmmm. lol

i think animatsu have. WAY less respect for one another than otouto do. osomatsu still considers himself in charge and the leader, but he has the two brothers who are Least willing to listen to him in his court in the context of the animatsu trio

karamatsu sees himself as equal to osomatsu in ranking he usually says We are the oldest, as the oldest two brothers yadda yadda, like in his mind he is on equal footing with osomatsu and maybe even slightly higher because he Does not respect his ass at all HDGNFVR and so its like ah yes Us the older brothers and our little brother choromatsu smile, and like he does respect choromatsu just not to yhe extent that choromatsu wants him to

choromatsu is a bigheaded Fool and considers himself far above both osomatsu and karamatsu DBDNV i doubt hed listen to jack shit the others say, theyre all three of them in their own ways Trying To Lead and thats just not gonna work HDJDB

thats why i think otouto r more harmonious than ani they spread out the "workload" where ani are clamouring so that they dont have to GHFJDG
