I've gotta make a fake trailer for show/movie turning it into a different genre which theoretically is hilarious and fun, but I'm scared because now the fate of my bachelors degree lies in the hands of a shitpost

Will was crazy for the “and us?” in the rink-o-mania fight scene.
But Mike was even crazier for the “we’re friends, we’re friends!” right after.
Because while implying that there’s an “us” with you and your crush is bold, Mike and Will have been best friends since they were like 7. They’ve known each other for years and have practically been attached at the hip for most of them. Saying “and us” in reference to your very close friendship with someone isn’t totally abnormal. But Mike heard this and immediately stated that him and Will are friends. Which, okay? He never said they were anything more. The reason that we see the “and us” in a romantic light is because we’re aware of Will’s sexuality and his feelings for Mike, but from an outsider’s perspective, it could very well just mean “why are you neglecting our friendship?” I mean, if you think heteronormativity is bad now, image how it was in the 80s. Someone being gay was probably not a conclusion a lot of people would draw, unless they were displaying obvious or stereotypical signs of their sexuality. So then, why does Mike hear the word “us” and automatically think of romantic undertones? Why does he immediately get so defensive and state that him and Will are just friends? Probably because the idea of him and Will being more than that was already in the back of his mind.

This couple spent a season separated from the main action with the plot focusing their relationship after they didn't have the best communication for a year.
Now quickly am I talking about Jancy or Byler?

This shit with Kit Connor is bringing me back to the Love, Simon days, and I just gotta rant. Like first off, yeah the movie has some problems that didn’t really exist in the books, but so many people downplay the significance of that movie hitting the theaters. I’ll say, for myself, I was 18 and had just come out to my closest friends as bi a year before. It was genuinely the first romcom happy queer movie I had ever seen. I went home and cried my eyes out. And then I got online, and all I saw was people shitting all over it—calling the author of the book series, Becky Albertalli, a fetishist and saying the movie was “for the straights” because “all the actors were straight”.
Becky Albertalli was forced to come out as bisexual to defend herself. And then, what do you know? Like half the cast came out as queer in some compacity in the next few years following its release. It’s almost like they were literally barely out of their teenage years and were still figuring themselves out, or not ready to open up yet. Hell—Nick Robinson’s brother, who’s not that much younger than him, only came out to Nick as the movie was filming. Also one of the actors even stated that most of the production crew openly identified as queer, and the director was an openly gay man. But apparently that means fuck all, and these young actors should have their personal lives ripped into and either be called queerbaiters or be forced to out themselves.
For all the shit talking people did of Love, Simon to prop themselves up as some saviors to the purity of queer media, all they did was recreate the plot. A bunch of fucking Martins outing Simon. And of course it’s all happening again with the Heartstopper cast. They’re even younger too, which really breaks my heart. Coming out is never easy, but the fact that people are demanding it on a global stage from a bunch of teenagers? A bunch of teenagers on a show that stars Charlie, a kid who was forcibly outed? Talk about consuming media with zero critical thoughts.
And I know that these people never learn their lesson. I can only imagine the reaction from the general audience of Stranger Things next season with Mike and Will. The hate for Will’s character started immediately following the season, and Noah had to navigate all these questions about queerbaiting when the show isn’t even over. And I can only imagine what it’s going to be like for the actors following season five. Which, again, is ridiculous, because they don’t owe anyone an explanation.
Anyway, Simon said it best, “I'm supposed to be the one that decides when and how and who knows, and how I get to say it. That's supposed to be my thing, but you took it away from me.”

also thoughts on yamace now that you've seen them
Stabbing me in the esophagus would have hurt way less than watching these two interact. I want to give you a proper answer like I always do instead of incoherent screaming, but I watched the flashback so recently that I'm still fucking sobbing. I can't stand gay people and their daddy issues. They make me insane. But since I'm an annoying writer, I will try and explain why Yamace has suddenly made his way to my top 5 ships in only three episodes. I'm pretty sure everybody knows all of this already because I'm late to the boom of episode 1015, but damn, I really need to talk about this or I'll die.
Okay, first of all, their personalities are so good together. They're both silly and fun to watch and impulsive and they want to be free from the chains their fathers put them in (metaphorically and, well, also literally). Perhaps the animation and direction of the show (especially on episode 1015 because oh my fucking goodness) helped a little in setting the romantic mood, but the interactions were all them. These two are literally something else.
To me, it's the angst of falling in love in the span of a night with a stranger with whom you have a lot in common and then watching them go, hoping to see them again- Like, basically being the only thing you look forward to because you don't have anything else except them and the freedom they promised you. And then watching them drift away between your fingers without being able to do anything. It's the frustration and helplessness and the way Yamato's life was the best it could've been and then crumbled down to the point where he had to place his faith in a man who he only knows because Ace talked about him constantly without shutting the fuck up because he's the most annoying brother ever (I love him).
And- I don't know, man. The chemistry is unmatched. Like, I actually felt I was interrupting their romantic moment watching that shit. If I hadn't known anything about them I would have genuinely thought they would kiss.
The whole "You can't choose your parents" and "What do you really want to do?" left me crying and sobbing on the floor. I literally had to sit down on the floor and cry because I couldn't take the parallelisms between them, both being children of important pirates and feeling (a very valid) resentment towards them. It's so good. The way they bond and talk to each other,,, The way they look at each other? This is the type of thing you only see in a romcom. Because quite literally: What the fuck.
And it's not only the obvious parallelisms or the fact that their personalities match perfectly (and also that, aesthetically, they look amazing together. But I think that's what happens when both boyfriends are hot af) but the fact that in the span of a night... Their feelings were so genuine. Ace wanted to come back, he just wasn't strong enough at the time and he was so positive and determined to become stronger so he would go back to Tama and Yamato,,, And Yamato? Waiting for Ace? Yamato waiting for his only friend to come back but knowing he will never do it? Yamato was so cute and excited to meet Ace, and seeing him hurt but it hurt less knowing that he would come back. The fact that he's dead takes that away from him. It just makes him have more faith in Luffy because he carries Ace with him.
How can a ship be so fucking good in only three episodes???? Going fucking wild. Ace taught him the meaning of living freely. Ace made him want to fight to be free. Ace changed his life and, honestly, Yamato changed his life too because it was the second biggest promise (first one being with Luffy, about not dying) he made and he had to actually train and fight to fulfill it. And he wasn't able to do it, but the whole "Luffy carrying Ace's promise" thing makes me go fucking wild.
Well, basically, to finish this: Expect a lot of posts from me about Yamace from now on and also a lot of edits to Taylor Swift songs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is so,,, God. It's so romantic. The lightning. The smiles. The fact that they're literally two intersecting lines that will never meet again. It makes me sick.

Happilyfeatherafter’s ficrec Fridays
Back back back again, and I don't know guys, I think we should all just totally stab Caesar! Welcome back to a new fortnight of fics that I’ve read and loved recently.
If you want to find more you can see my previous rec lists here!
15 March 2024
Are You Writing From the Heart? by  @luckshiptoshore is now complete!! Congrats Luck! Full disclosure, Luck is one of my very best friends, but that just means I know not only how much of a talented fic writer she is, but also how much of her heart and soul she poured into writing this love letter to queer storytelling, season 4 Destiel as a romcom, meta text (and subtext), and finding out who you really are when society and your upbringing is fighting against you. Castiel is a ghostwriter for L.S. Shore's Supernatural novels about Neal and his brother. Caught in a storytelling rut, Cas finds himself adding the fallen angel character of Bel...what could possible go wrong? Meanwhile at his local writing coffee shop spot, he meets the handsome stranger Dean who is an up and coming standup comedian and Supernatural fanboy. They because firm friends, but that's definitely it because Cas is straight....right?! Following these two dummies as they FAIL TO USE THEIR WORDS is a total joy, as Luck's humorous and emotional writing paired with her eye for detail is so very on point, and I'm so excited more people will finally get to read this story in full.
Baker Six by komodobits because !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot tell you how goddamn excited I was to get this email notification and finally be back in 91w world, and to witness these early stages of Dean and Cas' relationship through Dean's eyes at last. This barely needs a rec because it's THEE 91w Dean, but komodobits hasn't missed a beat in getting back inside their heads and I was once again swept away by this iconic love story against the odds. Head the trigger warnings as always, this is truly on the front lines as a medic in a war zone. Baker Six was written for the very good cause of the fandom Palestine fundraiser, in support of the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund. Please donate if you can!
Truth & despair by @shallowseeker was a recent discovery and such a fascinating read! It's set in a post-15x18 verse, but importantly it features a fun Sam narrative perspective that delights in his lens by...being a bit of an unsympathetic oblivious dummy (affectionate). I really appreciate a crunchy Sam characterisation and oooboy does this pay off. Dean is steeped in his grief for Cas, and Sam is oh so concerned. He reaches out to Mia Vallens to understand his own grieving, and that leads to him making a discovery...Dean's memories of Cas' death aren't what he claims happened. With the unwelcome reappearance of Chuck (he lost...didn't he?) and LITERAL sinkholes appearing in the fabric of the universe, can they figure out what's happening to save Cas and save the world? This wip plays with physics, theology and narrative fuckery in such intriguing ways. I can't wait to see how it wraps up in the next two chapters.
The Leap by @friendofcarlotta started reading this one when Tina reshared it on Leap Day...because of course. I'd actually read it before but it more than lived up to the reread. 'Castiel Krushnic is a police officer in Soviet-occupied East Berlin. He is also gay, in a city where that’s a dangerous thing to be. One night, he meets Dean Winchester, a mechanic from the American sector. Their mutual attraction is instant, and a convenient hookup quickly turns into a passionate love affair that defies all rules and expectations.' Meticulously researched, emotional, heartrending and thought provoking. I highly recommend taking the leap on this fic!
See you in two weeks and OMG it's @deancaspinefest time!!!! I'm so excited *clears calendar*
Tag list under the cut - let me know if you'd like to be added to be notified of future recs!

Public Figures Owe You Nothing
Same thing, different fandom. Now, my first soiree into internet fandom was Glee nearly fifteen years ago. Given insane popularity of the show and one of their two main couples, Klaine, and Darren Criss being a straight man, I am no stranger to the "only gay (out) queer actors should play queer roles" argument.
I don't necessarily disagree completely. Queer actors should be highlighted in queer roles. But guess what, the film industry is shit.
Not everyone is out, can afford to be out, is ready to come out publicly, or cares to have anyone in their business. There is a huge number of fans who are way too invested in the parasocial relationships with their "favs" and cross lines.
It's a tale as old as time. Darren Criss' now wife, Mia (Swier), was mercilessly harassed online and honestly in person. I distinctly remember people MAILING her things. There was an incredible amount of hate directed towards her because SHE wasn't a HE and a group of fans were hellbent that he and Chris Colfer were secretly in a relationship, even though both were happily in their own relationships. (Both of them are actually still IN those relationships and I love that for them.)
Someone gave Dannell Ackles (wife of Jensen Ackles) a gift at an event. When she reached it she was cut by a bunch of rusty hooks in a fucking voodoo doll.
One of the NSYNC members (I can't remember if it were Chris or Joey) ended up being broken up with by their partner at the time because of the amount of hate they were getting.
This came up because someone said on instagram that they "will not be watching [RWRB]" because [Taylor and Nicholas] "are not out" and "they are gay for pay". So, me being me, says to them that the actors owe you nothing. Their sexuality/gender identity is no one's concern but their own.
Also, it was really disgusting what alot of Heartstopper did to Kit. He's just a baby and they strong armed him to coming out before he was ready and made him feel like he had to justify it. Cruel irony being that it's the exact opposite of the point of the books, and exact opposite of his character. I'll never forgive them for what they did to my son.
I went on to tell them that Hollywood is shit. It's homophobic, racist, sexist, xenophobic, transphobic, everything phobic. They like beautiful and handsome, classically beautiful, white, straight actors that fit into their perfect mold. As soon as actors come out they get type cast, lose rolls (because how could a homosexual portray intimacy with a woman? It's not like they are actors or anything). I, of course, got blocked because they didn't agree with me and that's fine.
Did you know that many actors in the union don't even make the $26,000 a year that is required to qualify for health insurance? Most actors are working class. Yes, many acquire a net worth, but it's honestly one huge disaster from losing what they have. The median salary for actors in the US is about 60K a year. So why would a working class actor or even a upper middle class actor, want to potentially dismantle their career trajectory by telling something that is really no one's concern anyway?
Not everyone wants to be stuck in a Ryan Murphy rotation. Maybe once we get more queer film and show makers and Hollywood execs start to fuck off we'll get more. I'm 99% sure that RWRB is the ONLY gay romcom without underlying trauma porn. The only other one that comes close is a Christmas movie.
Actors are still human and deserve privacy. They owe fans nothing. Their partners deserve privacy. If they are queer good for them. If they are not, good for them. But fans don't get to dictate who comes out and when. So yes, we want more queer actors in queer roles, but we don't get to decide if the ones who are not open get to have these roles. Sometimes it is who is best for the role.
As far as RWRB: Neither Taylor nor Nicholas have ever made any public statements on their sexuality and are both private people when it comes to their relationships. It's really goofy that people think it's an appropriate question to ASK them personally. Interview or not.
All that matters to me is that they killed that online and the characters they acted were madly in love with each other.
Moral of the story: they can want someone and love some one and not want that life for them. Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka were together for three years before they came out and that's when NPH came out - at 34 on his terms, as it should be. Some people really missed the message of the book; that queer people deserve to come out when and how THEY want to.

i understand the reasoning behind the backlash against ppl that focus on the love in stranger things above all else, but like. the tides are turning in such a way that it's like some people expect there to be minimal/scarce levity or interpersonal growth next season, and.. to me.. that sounds about as unlikely as the idea that st5 will be a gay romcom.
stranger things has always made time for love (of all kinds) and lighter moments between the horror and action. sometimes the horror and action is the act of love, and sometimes the only way to save the day is by focusing on the love and letting it power the heroes and light their way forward.
this show goes dark for sure—i mean, we started this previous season with a literal brutal and gory massacre of many young children lol—but. it's still overall a mostly "light" show, because of how the darkness is mediated by the light. those moments are important because they further humanize the characters and incentivize the viewer to want to see them have their happy ending after everything.
there's always light, love, and laughter to be found in every season. interpersonal relationships have always progressed alongside the main plot, especially because we know that those two things are linked & community/love is the only way out, and that isn't going to suddenly change just because it's their last stand.
it's for sure not going to be heartstopper, but i feel it's likely not going to be the road or the mist either.

Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe
In 2014, Maia Kobabe, who uses e/em/eir pronouns, thought that a comic of reading statistics would be the last autobiographical comic e would ever write. At the time, it was the only thing e felt comfortable with strangers knowing about em. Now, Gender Queer is here. Maia’s intensely cathartic autobiography charts eir journey of self-identity, which includes the mortification and confusion of adolescent crushes, grappling with how to come out to family and society, bonding with friends over erotic gay fanfiction, and facing the trauma and fundamental violation of pap smears. Started as a way to explain to eir family what it means to be nonbinary and asexual, Gender Queer is more than a personal story: it is a useful and touching guide on gender identity—what it means and how to think about it—for advocates, friends, and humans everywhere.

I love a good mafia movie (goodfellas, duh). I love an old school buddy comedy with gay undertones (midnight run) or classic action movies with gay undertones (Heat), and yes i also love a good superhero movie (winter soldier). and yes, i also love a good romcom (basically any romcom hugh grant has done. almost all of them have aged pretty good). i love good trash (psycho goreman), i love sad movies (banshees of inisherin), i love old disney movies (lion king)....

Why byler would change the world ?
(I apologize I’m not a English-speaker, I’m learning in school but it’s a English literacy so I probably made a lot of mistake :’)
This was inspired by @lordystrange !
(Its probably not very good but I tried to offer my thoughts and thinking about it ^^
It’s a great question to begin with, but it’s pretty simple to understand
First of all, stranger things is one of the most seen show in the world, so do we know a lot of world-famous show that have gay main couple ? No, or at least I didn’t know any, If byler is endgame (it will be) a lot of person will see it, the WORLD will see it
It won’t be a silly ship that the duffers would create just to please people or to fill an agenda, no it was built since the beginning, people would have been trick into watching a gay romance since the beginning (straightbaiting my belove <3)
It’s not just a couple, it’s kids that fell in love, because queer children exist, because we exist, we’re not alone and we have the right to be seen on screen.
Because it hurt to see all those straight happy-end everywhere and just a gay character in the back, whose only personality is being gay, because we don’t want a bury your gay, because we don’t want a random boyfriend to appear in the last 2 minutes of s5. Because it’s just not what we need. The world need to see two kids falling in love, just pure love, because it’s not wrong, we’re not wrong and that’s the most important things in the world
Because we deserve to have good representation and I don’t talk about gay romance like heartstopper i talk about representation in a show that is not created for a queer public. A show that isn’t based on queerness
I want to see a world where Mike and Will love each other and it’s just as normal as Lucas and Max, it’s just love after all
Because we were insulted for thinking that mike and Will could be a cute couple in s2, because we were mocked for thinking that Will might be gay in s3, because we are again ridiculised for thinking that maybe Mike and Will, a mlm ship, could be endgame
Just imagine the impact on popculture ! Stranger things would be one of the first and biggest main couple straightbait (at least as I know :’) It would be incredible, it could be one of those series/films couple that are classic, constantly referred to, just a part of pop culture. Because right now between all these famous couple there is mainly straight couple, or at least the most famous are always straight Ross and Rachel, Leïla and Han Solo, Peter Parker and MJ, i can’t think about any endgame *very* famous gay couple
Plus they’re so adorable, they are really what the other need, Will NEED mike and mike want to be needed they’re just perfect for each other and I live just to see them happy, to see Will happy because he deserve it, because he can’t be another of those character who just suffer
Byler endgame is the right choice because it just make so much more sense, they were built since the beginning, they’re mean to be together since even before s1, the « crazy together » was planned before s1 and El was supposed to die at the end of the first season, I’m sure the duffer know exactly what they are doing, and why are they doing it
That’s why i think Byler endgame could change the world, it would probably change popculture, it would give a good exemple to futur tv show, people don’t necessarily want the main couple to be straight, the genre doesn’t change that, it doesn’t matter if it isn’t a gay romcom, a gay couple can be one of the main endgame couple !!
(+ bonus : Toxic mileven shippers that insult us because of that since the beginning would be wrong and that my dear will go down in history !)
Thanks for reading this It was probably very messy I added stuff as soon as I had ideas and I didn't read it again because it's late I need some sleep but I just wanted to list it all a bit xD

December 10th, 2023. “Fuck,” he swore softly, and then again, “Fuck.” A little over two months until Steve said I do, binding himself to a total stranger. Eddie wasn’t about to let his best friend get snatched up by someone who was likely not good enough for him, let alone someone Eddie had never heard of. Steve was too kind to be taken advantage of like that — too special. How things had ended up as they had, Eddie couldn’t be sure, but one way or another, he was going to get to the bottom of it.

I think Hollywood (and also books and musicals) are allergic to Jonathan/Mina because it goes against the basic romance formula: There is no CHASE in it.
-They are in love at the beginning, they remain in love in the middle, they are still in love at the end: The is no will they or won't they drama.
-The man runs to the woman and the woman runs to him at the same time until they reunite, again and again: The thrill of the interested party pursuing the other one until they catch them is nowhere here.
-They start engaged, get married near the middle and remain married: There is no hollywood-style strangers-to-idiots-to-lovers that ends with kiss/sex/marriage. Or dramatic breakups before reconciling. It's steady and staunch.
-They rarely fight and when they do fight it's respectful and quickly descalates: No bickering or screaming matches or drawn-out arguments that show "sexual tension".
-He is just too damn nice to her: How could that awaken anything in a woman!
Those and more have been making writers toss the whole thing away and shove cheating, abuse, mutual contempt etc in their relationship and giving Mina something more spicy.
There is a chase. They're running together hand-in-hand, chasing after their goddamn dreams, they've been doing so since childhood. CHILDHOOD FRIENDS ARE ALSO A FUCKING TROPE. I guess not in Western media though. Fuck you, my culture.
That's the thing, we don't need a romantic subplot. We don't need will-they/won't-they. I'm SICK-- LET THEM BE MARRIED. LET MARRIED COUPLES BE IN MOVIES THAT AREN'T ABOUT LIKE?? FUCKIN DIVORCE OKAY???
"He's too nice" yeah I fucking hate how men have gaslit women (and all of society really) into thinking men showing unwarranted aggression is being attractive. No, that's just a red flag, you aren't feeling passion, you're feeling fear. People who think that kindness is unattractive haven't fucking graduated from kindergarten. They're still pulling on their crush's pigtails like idiots. I hope that one day they all find someone who loves and cherishes them so they'll stop being so inclined to sell fucking lies.
ONCE AGAIN, DRACULA ISN'T A ROMCOM IT'S A FUCKING REVENGE FANTASY. Jonathan and Mina are running hand-in-hand to murder their abuser. That's your fucking chase for ya.
They still wanna add will-they/won't-they to a story that doesn't fucking need it? Okay. Have the goddamn Suitors fuck. Have them all participate in a one-night stand and not be able to fucking deal with the repercussions. The part of the movie where everyone suddenly gets super dumb? That's just the romcom part where the Suitors haven't puzzled out that they're all in love with each other so it causes a bunch of misunderstandings and the Harkers and VH are just begging them to get their shit together.
Oh wait, that's gay, isn't it? And as we all know, an abusive straight relationship is infinitely more acceptable to a wide audience than a healthy queer relationship.
I hate it here.

Decided to make a Steddie fic rec list because I’m bored and love seeing these. No theme or anything. Just some of my absolute favorites from the top of my head. All of these are completed and all of them have happy endings because I’m a sap! These are also all really good writers so you should probably check out their other stuff too! Took You For A Working Boy by Pukner (M, 43K) - Set during a lowkey apocalypse after season 4. Eddie comes out as gay and Steve tries to figure out why he feels so upset about it. Explores genderqueer Steve Harrington in such a beautiful and delicate way. Also focusses a lot on Steve and Robin’s friendship, which I always love. Straight up cried over how sweet they all are. cause in the back of my mind, i’m in the back of your car by GreatUnironic (E, 68K) - Modern, Formula 1 AU, but don’t let that stop you if you’re not into racing!! I feel like most people know one of their other fics (The Greatest Thing About You Standing In The Doorway Is That It’s You), but I also really love this one and I think everyone should read it. Deals with Steve becoming injured after a racing accident and staying at Eddie’s house to recover. Handles Steve’s injuries very well, great exploration of long term effects of internalized homophobia. Also just so sweet. The Party Crashers by how_about_no (M, 35K) - Real romcom energy in this one. No upside down. Eddie and Steve are practically strangers when Eddie invites him to crash a party together and it becomes a habit. Such well written flirty dialogue, incredibly charming. Makes me kick my feet and giggle every time I read it. Instant serotonin boost.
Till I Kissed You by 96tears (T, 18K) - Eddie tells Steve he never really understood the big deal about kissing. Steve concludes he must be bad at it and they decide to kiss to settle it once and for all. Both of them spiral into a sexuality crisis when they like it a lot more than expected. Such well written oblivousness, it kinda reminded me of my high school self. Packs a lot of punch while still being really funny and sweet. I love stories where Eddie also doesn’t know he’s queer yet.
Doing Nothing With You by Red0akTree (M, 106K) - Steve and Robin get a place together and Eddie and Nancy start coming over all the time. Really nice, slow slice-of-life feeling as Steve and Eddie grow closer. Deals with the struggles of becoming and adult and worrying about your friends moving away and accidentaly kissing your friend when your drunk and panicking about it. All very relatable stuff!! Incredibly sweet! Also features Jonathan and Steve and Eddie smoking weed together, which I always think is fun. Star Star by poorlittlegreenie (M, 93K) - more fake dating, in a modern NYC AU this time. Robin joins a new band which means Steve has to hang out with frontman Eddie and they get off on the wrong foot. Jonathan asks the two of them to pretend to date for a little bit to show Will an example of a happy gay couple. Enemies to lovers vibe even if they start to get along pretty quickly. Incredibly fun but then also kinda angsty. Both of these boys have some attachment issues to work through, but they get there in the end! Might do more in the future!
