Tony groaned and threw himself onto his bed face-first. He waited for a moment, then let out another groan, louder, and even kicked his feet a little.
“Oh, that was your ‘ask me what happened’ groan, my bad,” Jim said, turning from his physics homework. “What happened?”
“The dean said I couldn’t test out of my writing classes,” Tony complained into his pillow.
Jim blinked, then said, “That sucks, man. I’m sorry.”
“But I don’t even—what?” Tony began, confused.
Jim raised an eyebrow. “I said ‘that sucks.’”
“…Oh,” Tony said awkwardly. “So you weren’t going to tell me to suck it up?”
“No, because we edit each other’s essays already, so I know that you know how to write,” Jim explained patiently. “I think you should be able to test out instead of having to waste your time getting those credits, so, I’m sorry. That sucks.”
“Oh,” Tony repeated, looking vaguely embarrassed. “Um. Thank you. My English teacher at boarding school was really stringent about essays so.”
Jim stared at him, opened his mouth, then decided not to ask. Tony said a lot of things that he started to laugh about and then realized everyone was looking at him in horror. He figured this was something they could unpack later. “You wanna cuddle and watch Short Circuit until you feel better?”
That was apparently a question Tony didn’t need to be asked twice, scrambling from his bed over to Jim’s and immediately rolling himself up in his comforter.

It is utterly ridiculous that it’s taken over twenty years of friendship and Tony being kidnapped for the fourth time since they’ve known each other for Jim to realize he has more than just platonic feelings for his best friend.
Utterly ridiculous and completely stupid.
Because Jim had always thought he was a relatively smart guy, but this. This is just fucking idiotic of him. For him to have wasted all those years and only figured out how his heart feels now, when the stakes are so much higher and Tony has disappeared into the Afghan desert for almost three months.
This just can’t stand. More than just a military guy, Jim is a rocket scientist. And if he can figure out rocket science, then he can figure out how to find Tony. And once he does, he’s not going to waste any more time. He’s going to take the only man that matters into his arms and lay it all on the line, bare his heart and soul to him and hope for the best.
His superiors believe they have the authority to stop him from taking a jet over the desert skies to keep searching for Tony? They can think again.
Jim’s not a quitter. And he’s not quitting on Tony.

Having a great time with the random asks going on lmao!!! Thoughts on rhodey and Tony MIT era? It’s not how they met in the comics but I’ve always thought it could be such an interesting dynamic if done well you know? Something about this straight-laced-military-bound guy and this rat of a rich teenager way too young to be there and how that friendship got started and eventually evolved into what it clearly is in Ironman 1? Unfortunately I’ve skimmed the tag and every fic on ao3 is more about the idea of howard beating Tony’s ass or contain some INSANE Tony ship,,, alas.
This got long. Just wondered if you had any thoughts™️ or if this one’s just a me thing.

Honestly Rhodey is so underrated that even in ironhusbands fic, he’s more of a prop for the writer to get into their feelings about Tony or playing into some kind of stereotype that it is!!! Exhausting. I love the idea of these two nerds at MIT, figuring life out and an introspective of how they’ve been bonded together through ALL of this shit. Sticky got the “star crossed lovers” treatment, WHERE is the ironhusbands Rhodey POV of them through their 80s MIT days up till endgame!!!!!!!

The conference room was a room designated for all conversations Tony knew he didn’t want to be a part of, but got roped into anyways.
Usually this meant mission debriefings or political issues that were whole team discussions.
Today however, that wasn’t the case. The world wasn’t ending, no one in an important government office was angry at them.
And yet here they were, sitting in the conference room, with Clint of all people speaking in front of them.
“So next wife and I’s anniversary is next week, and I need your help getting the farm ready.”
“Clint, I know I ask you this a lot, but what?” Natasha was sitting up front, presumably to save Clint from himself.
“It’s our tenth anniversary, I want to do something special, but it’s hard to get her away from the farm for long periods of time, and someone has to watch the kids, so it’s a whole thing and I need your help.”
Tony raised his hand. “These are straight people problems. Can I leave?”
Rhodey, ever the saner one of them, pulled his hand back down. “What my husband means to say is what can we do to help?”
“I am so glad you asked, Rhodes, thank you. We need to remodel a bunch of things I’ve been putting off for years, someone needs to go on vacation with my wife while we get this done, and someone needs to take the kids.”
“Do you even sort of have a plan?” Sam asked. “Because it sounds like you don’t have a plan.”
“I know what needs to get fixed up and the rest will fall into place.” The finger guns Clint gave him really drove the point home.
Natasha sighed. “Alright, I’ll take Laura to the city for a week, Tony can take the kids, and the rest of you men can deal with Clint’s bullshit,” she delegated.
“Nope, I need Tony to do electrical work,” Clint argued.
“Fine. Thor can take the kids.” Natasha rolled her eyes. “He’s basically one of them anyways.”
“Why did you volunteer me first?” Tony asked. “Like why would I be the first choice for that?”
“Because you’re good with kids, Tony.”
“You are also basically one of them,” Rhodey said.
“I resent that, and as my husband you should be supporting me, not Natalie.”
She stuck her tongue out at him.
“Anyways, please tell me more about this electrical work, Clinton,” Tony turned to the man with the crisis.
“So you’re in?”
“Yes we’re in, because frankly this is an insane conversation and I have better things to do with my life, so let's wrap this up.”
“Great. Fantastic. Thank you guys so much. Nat, let us know when you get her out of there and I’ll write out a list of things Thor can do with the kids. The rest of you need to be out to my farm as soon as my wife is far enough away that she won’t suspect anything. You’re the best!”
And just like that, Clint was gone.
Natasha stood and took his place at the front of the room. “I’ll get you all the schematics of his house with the general outline of what needs to be done. This is typical Clint, I’ll handle it.”
“This was, by far, one of the worst meetings we’ve ever had,” Steve said. It was the first time he had spoken since they walked in and saw Clint at the front of the room.
“If Steve says it, you know it’s true. Meeting adjourned, people. See you whenever we get called out to Clint’s farm because lord knows I’m not leaving my lab before then,” Tony said, getting up to leave.
“I will make sure he eats and sleeps and generally doesn’t die.” Rhodey followed him out and together they made their way down the hall.
“They’re sweet, don’t you think?”
“Who, Clint and Laura?” Tony asked. “I mean, we don’t see them interact that much, but they seem to do okay for themselves.”
“Yeah, but I mean, Clint is making such a big deal out of this just because he knows it’ll make her happy.”
“He’s also being incredibly unorganized about it. Check your email for the layout of his house, I’m going to have to redo the entire electrical and fix their dishwasher, among other things.”
“You say that like it won’t be the best week of your life.”
“Why would renovating Clint’s house be the best week of my entire life?”
“I don’t know, it’s a change of pace. No robots, no aliens, just good old fashioned house work.”
Suddenly, Tony stopped in his tracks and turned to stare at Rhodey. “You’re being weird. What’s on your mind, Honeybear?”
“Nothing, I just think it’ll be fun to get out of the city and get our hands dirty.”
“Do you want to live on a farm? Is this you convincing me to get out of the city so we can live a quiet life?”
“Why would you think that? Tony, I would never ask you to leave the city. You thrive here. Everything you’ve ever known has taken place in and around a big city. I would never ask you to give that up.”
“You know I would if you asked me to, right?”
“I’m not asking you to. I might ask when we retire, but not now.”
“So you’re asking for when we retire, is that what I’m hearing?”
Rhodey smiled softly. “Maybe you could keep that in mind when we’re at Clint’s.”
“Deal.” He kissed him lightly before starting back towards the lab. “I will need some help gathering my tools and other supplies, and you’re just the man for the job.”
“Want me to get the coffee started and start a list for the hardware store?”
“This is why I married you. You read my mind. While you’re at it, could you also-”
“Find the closest hardware store to Clint’s place? Already on it, love.”
“Remind me to think of what I should do for you for our next big anniversary. I have to outdo Clint, and you deserve only the best.”
“I’ll set a reminder for JARVIS. Your travel toolbox is in the third cabinet to the left by the box of scrap metal.”
“What would I do without you?”
“Who knows. Speaking of, you’re out of coffee down here, so I’m going to run upstairs and get some while you get a head start okay?”
“You got it.” Tony watched as he left, the soft ding of the elevator resounding in the distance. “Hey JARVIS?”
“Yes, sir?”
“Start looking at properties upstate, won’t you? Somewhere with a lot of land, a good amount of trees, maybe with a river nearby.”
“Special occasion, sir?”
“Eventually. Just get me that list, and don’t tell Rhodey.”

Fic idea free to a good home:
There's a whole host of fics in the winteriron community where Bucky and Winter are separate personalities but the tendency I've seen (if they're not both pining after Tony) is that Winter falls for Tony while Bucky resumes an old fling with Steve.
But.
I don't really ship stucky largely because I like those two more as brothers (the same reason I don't ship ironhusbands, you know? I get why people see it, and I’ll read a short now and again if it’s a writer I trust, but it’s just... not how I see those dynamics. Not to mention that Winter did kill Tony's parents, so it’s kind of weird for him and Tony to be together even after Tony forgives it.
HOWEVER. I am always and forever HERE for Tony being swept away by old-fashioned Bucky charm. And just imagine Steve glancing around mid-combat and spotting Winter doing the murder-strut and thinking holy shit that’s hot... wait, why is that hot??? because he definitely has a kink for danger and absolutely no self-awareness whatsoever.
I don’t want to write it, because it’s still too much stucky for me, and also because it’s not a proper AU. But I’d almost certainly read it if someone else wrote it and tagged me... :D

“Am I going to have to pick you up and drag you to bed?” Tony’s eyebrows frown as he sees Bucky in the lab doorway, “Peter’s coming over tomorrow and I know that you want spend the whole day with him and despite how lovely he is Peter takes a lot of energy, so bed.” Bucky tells the truth and he’s not acting especially politely because this is day 3 of Tony not coming to bed with him and Rhodey.
Tony would retaliate that he had been sleeping and JARVIS was logging it as sleep in his habit tracker, but it was sleep in the lab and in short periods of time, which Rhodey may count but Bucky did not. Bucky spent a whole war not slepping properly he was not going to let Tony not sleep because of the lab.
Frowning Tony watched as JARVIS turned off his holographic blueprints, “did Rhodey send you down?” If Rhodey had sent Bucky down that is when he knew it was bad, he was actually in trouble. Tony used his puppy dog eyes to his best advantage when he says, “becuase I was working on the new blueprints of your arm, and I just had to get ti done, but if you wanted to help…” Tony trailed up and it didn’t take much for Bucky to be gesturing for the holograms to resume their positions and sit in the wheely chair next to Tony.
Quickly Bucky became just as excited about the project as Tony was previously before ebing interrupted, he was confiscating Tony’s coffee by drinking it himself, but in Tony’s eyes you lose some you win some and his partner influencing his insomnia seemed to be a win.
“Have you thought about the feature I was telling you? The shockwave one that I could maybe turn off and on?” Bucky’s tone raised as he became excited and Tony snikered.
They spent the next hour sitting like that, shoulder to shoulder in their individual chairs, Tony’s backless stoll and Bucky’s wheely chair. It seemed to be they were making decent process on the schematics when they were interrupted by a cough from the door way, both men’s eyes went wide.
They were in trouble if Rhodey unpleased expression was anything to go by. There was a loud gulp from beside Tony.
“I seem to remember giving Bucky 20 minutes to make sure you were in bed, which seems strange because it’s over an hour later and you are both still in the lab. I know for a fact that it does not take 20 minuted to turn off holograms and have Bucky carry you to bed. Thought I should investigate what was really happening.” Tony gulp was just as loud as Bucky’s previous one.
Looking to eachother they both are quick to fend for an apology, random words spilling out of their individual mouths.
Rhodey’s eye squint and he lifts his hand into a stop motion, “my ultimatum for you both is you follow me to bed as I walk out and then I get a massage when we get back to bed, because I am exhausted and because of the stress you two have caused me,” Rhodey side eyes them both, “I have knots all over my body.”
Coming closer to his partners so he is stadnign across from the works bench with one flick of a hand, and then leaves without another word.
Bucky and Tony scramble as they are quick to follow, “that is not an ultimatum,” Tony whispers to Bucky, Bucky nods, “I’m fairly sure he knows that.”
Sleep, sleep sounds good now.

lowkey otp: science boyfriends (i'm more invested in their friendship but i do love them as a ship), starmora, spideychelle, buckynat and stucky
highkey notp: st*rker and th*rki ugh
[softly] don't notp: ironstrange, frostiron, clintasha and romanogers. i see the appeal with all of them but ironstrange doesn't really interest me (seems often based on steve hate and i don't like that), frostiron just isn't for me and with clintasha and romanogers i love the friendship sm and i think their dynamics are much more interesting in a platonic way.
highkey otp but i'm scared of saying it because it's not a very popular choice: honestly idk
highkey otp and anyone on my tumblr knows it: stony and sambucky ofc <3 i'm also a huge ironhusbands/rhodeytony fan but there's not much content :( so i'll just stick to fics - compared to other ships there's also not that much but the quality is usually amazing.
