can we just take a second to appreciate Aryan Simhadri? he's a fantastic actor, every second he's on the screen he manages to make his actions scream GROVER. he's perfect for his role just like Leah and Walker are yet I don't see nearly enough people talking about him and his contribution to the show in this fandom. he's not only nailing the Grover Underwood vibe but he's also providing so much phenomenal Indian/Asian rep. he's giving so much depth of character and that is so rare for Indians (and Asians generally) in popular media, and he's so conscious of how his background interacts with Grover's. Aryan has given so so much to us and now I wanna hear y'all celebrating that.

Percy Jackson Characters Explained by Dogs

So, after reading this post about how Percy Jackson is actually terrifying, but we (the readers) don't notice it as much because we're always on his side, I commented that certain dogs can explain it more visually. So, I decided to make it into a post (with images). Now, here we are, putting dog photos next to PJO-HoO characters. Here we go:

Percy Jackson = Caucasian Shepherd or Belgian Mallinois

He’s a sweetheart to family and FAMILY ONLY. To everyone else, he will label you as a threat until proven otherwise. (Also, I just realized Percy fits the Mastiff type dogs perfectly, which is what Mrs. O'Leary is).

2. Nico di Angelo = Dalmatian

He’s not seen as violent, but every now and again he will tear someone or something to shreds. Which, coming from a "harmless-looking" individual, makes him creepy. (Ironically, Nico went to Dalmatia in HoH).

3. Jason Grace = Rhodesian Ridgeback

He will stare down and hunt down lions, but is not known for violent outbursts. (I just realized it also fits his "raised by wolves" bit, since the RRs need good socialization to be stable).

4. Annabeth Chase = Border Collie/Dingo

She's highly intelligent, fierce, adaptable, and extremely intimidating when focused on a task (usually involving hunting of some kind). Also, the size difference between Percabeth is an added bonus. (Can you imagine the tiny Dingo with the giant CS curled around it?)

5. Reyna Avila Ramírez-Arellano = Greyhound

She's dominant, laser-focused, and will chase down her goal, no matter who or what stands in her way.

6. Leo Valdez = Basenji or Nureongi

He's slightly out of place (Basenjis don't bark, but yodel) with a very dark past (Nureongis are only bred for dog meat), but has the personality of a sweetheart with a hidden fire.

7. Hazel Levesque = American Foxhound

She's good around horses, and feels comfortable in both violence and family.

8. Frank Zhang = Dogo Argentino or Aksaray Malaklisi

He doesn’t seem intimidating at first glance, but a closer inspection reveals a strong ferocity that has killed many beasts (also, he's freaking huge).

9. Piper McLean = Calupoh

She's extremely beautiful, which allows her to get away with certain things that would otherwise turn some heads (reference to her charmspeak, as well as her desire for revenge).

10. Thalia Grace = Carolina Dog, Siberian Laika, Canaan Dog, Brazilian Caramel, or Indian Pariah

She's too wild to stay in one spot, but always close by whenever someone needs assistance.

So, yeah, that's what I got so far. I might make some more in the future, but we'll see.

PS: I changed the "were" to "are", since some companies in Korea still breed Nureongis for meat only.

This is not my usual content but I feel like it’s something I need to say

On principle, if a character in a piece of media has a backstory that is in no way related to their race, the actor portraying that character can be of any race and what should take priority in casting is their talent

Attached to this sentiment, if a character in a piece of media has a backstory that is very much related to their race, the actor portraying that character should be of that race and the second priority should be talent

Now what does this mean? I will give examples

Leah Sava Jeffries, black actress playing a traditionally white character, Annabeth Chase. In no way does Annabeths whiteness relate to the core of her character or backstory, so Leah’s talent was what got her the role. The role is not reliant on race, anyone of any race can play Annabeth because her backstory is not reliant on race

Francesca Amewudah-Rivers, black actress playing Juliet Capulet, a traditionally white character. In no way does Juliet’s race relate to the core of her character or backstory, so Francesca’s talent was what got her the role.

Avantika Vandanapu, an Indian actress being fan casted as Rapunzel, a traditionally white character. In no way does Rapunzel race relate to the core of her character or backstory, so Avantika would be eligible for the role if casting directors decided she was fit based on talent

Do we see the pattern

Ok now, the inverse

If a white actress was fan casted or casted to play a traditionally black character whose backstory was highly relevant to her race, this would be an issue.

If a black actress was fan casted to play a Japanese character whose backstory was highly relevant to her race, this would be an issue

Just because a character is traditionally white does not mean that their whiteness is a relevant factor, especially if it is a fictional character!

Stop being racist, start using logic

((once again just in case putting the warning that I am in fact a dumb American but I'm trying my best 😭))

Annabeth Chase

-There were quite a few surprises you faced when you came to America, mostly how uncrowded it was! Growing up in Lucknow you were used to the hustle and bustle of the city, especially at Hazratganj Market!

-New York wasn’t nearly as busy as you expected it to be, sure there were people bustling about but it had formed nice paths of walking that flowed in a steady stream! As you got to camp you were ready for the worst.

-You had heard horror stories about American’s after all, so you couldn’t help but be a little nervous. You smooth out your chikankari kurti/kurta (they’re beautiful by the way!) and make your way into camp.

-You got a few looks but nothing as hostile as you expected. In fact most people seemed to be impressed which helped boost your ego. To your surprise someone approached you and began to speak Hindi to you!

-That’s how you met your now girlfriend Annabeth Chase, and you couldn’t be happier. She wasn’t only smart, she loved to eat the different foods you make. In fact it was part of the day she looked forward too the most!

-Her favorite dish you had made her so far was tunday kebab, though it wasn’t easy to get the buffalo meat for the dish you were glad she loved it so much. You didn’t mind putting in that extra effort to make her happy.

Reyna Ramírez-Arellano

-Being born in Mumbai you were used to crowded streets and chaos. When you moved to Camp Jupiter you were greeted with the exact opposite.They handled everything as perfectly as possible and to your surprise when you first got there they had a translator there to help you.

-It took a while for you to fully grasp the american language but with the help and support of camp you got the hang of it soon. Though you didn’t have a full grasp of the English language you were able to communicate in the universal language of food.

-The camp fell in love with each dish you made and word spread around like wildfire. Much to your surprise the praetor of camp had come to try your food. Knowing she was there you had to break out all of the stops, wanting to impress her. Wanting to get your feeling of thanks to her kindness and leadership… You couldn’t afford to mess this up.

-So you decide to break out the big guns, batatya rassa! You knew she’d be able to handle the spice and flavors. You work your magic and proudly set the dish down in front of her. A crowd had formed around you all waiting with baited breath for Reyna’s reaction.

-She takes a bite and after a few minutes of people holding their breath, she cracks a smile “it’s good.” she says covering her mouth to try and hide the chewing and smile. Everyone goes wild with utter shock bursting in cheers that you were able to get Reyna to smile like that.

-That’s how the two of you met, now every single day your girlfriend comes on her break for some food and tea (not chai tea, thank you Pavitr). Getting to enjoy some time together and introduce her to some more of your cultural food, and you couldn’t imagine any better way to spend the day.
