Being a long-time fanfic writer is such a weird thing, because on the one hand you are positively convinced you could never be good enough for actual publication, while on the other hand you go and read some (a lot) traditionally published books, and holy crap, are they bad, like really bad, and yet they are (semi-)successful, and you could absolutely do better than them.
