Hey Alex 👋
What are some movies you’ve really enjoyed in your life?
My cousin actually asked me yesterday what I though the “greatest film of all time” was, and I said I am not qualified to make claims on that level… but movies I enjoy, now THAT’S something I can do!
The Mitchels vs. The Machines - I think this was a Netflix Original, but it’s an animated film produced by Sony, and has so much life and love in it! Just a fun family film about a robot apocalypse with quirky characters and very relatable family struggles, but in the end a very sweet resolution that makes me envious 🥺 10/10
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World - I’m noticing a pattern with these movie titles so far… anyways, while the comics were better overall (and I need to finish them) the Scott Pilgrim movie was pretty great! I highly recommend it to people curious about Scott Pilgrim to get essentially a crash course in Scott Pilgrim, and then read the comics if you want more.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail - While I’m ashamed to say that this is the only Monty Python media I’ve interacted with directly, The Holy Grail is such a great movie and very much my style of humor in a lot of ways XD
I have to give a shout out to the original live-action Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies, especially the second one. I have a lot of great memories of watching these with friends, and every now and then I still rewatch the second one if I want a dose of nostalgia 👌
The Hobbit Trilogy are so so so so so good, for a long time I didn’t realize there were people who disliked them compared to the book? As someone who has read and reread The Hobbit religiously over the years, the movies are pretty damn good! Some parts aren’t quite up to snuff with the book, but some parts I think do a better job of explaining the course of events than in the book (and especially Gandalf’s travels being viewed as part of the film lends itself incredibly well to preceding the Lord of the Rings trilogy). Sure the dwarf/elf romance may have been unnecessary, but it was kinda cute and has some good poetic quotes about it. All in all, some of my favorite movies right here, but especially the first one.
your name. (Kimi no na wa) - I adore Makoto Shinkai films, 5 Centimeters per Second was one of the first anime films I ever watched. your name. is just one of the greatest movies ever made, such a beautiful love story, animated brilliantly, and the funniest part is that Makoto Shinkai considers it INCOMPLETE because he had to rush the ending to meet deadlines… and it’s still a masterpiece! I recommend watching the sub version if you can, because there’s a lot of intricacies involving the Japanese language and things that gets a little lost in localization and dubbing. Honestly might be my favorite movie of all time.
The Spiderverse films by Sony are some of the most spectacular animated movies of the decade, at least! I grew up as a Spider-Man fan, and especially loved the Andrew Garfield movies, and these movies scratch that same itch, while also featuring sooo many variants of Spider-people from different comics and crossovers. Both Into and Across were fantastic, can’t wait for Beyond!
Growing up a big Star Wars nerd, I might be expected to name an original trilogy film, but actually I think Rogue One is my favorite Star Wars film ever! It’s got all the makings of a fantastic sci-fi thriller, set in the Star Wars universe, about a famous line from the original movies: “Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR…” (this might also be the only good thing Disney has done for Star Wars movies idk)
To a much lesser extent, The LEGO Movie actually holds up quite well in my mind! Always love revisiting a fun family film like that :3
There we go! Is this more than you asked for? Probably, but you get it anyway! X3 Thanks for the ask~!

What is the most over-hyped book you read this year? Probably Iris Murdoch's The Sea, The Sea considering it's a fairly popular book (i had to wait in a surprisingly long list of people who had it on hold) which i had heard some people rave about but eh i wasn't really impressed
Did any books surprise you with how good they were? The biggest surprise was A High Wind in Jamaca which sounds like it would just be an adventure book but ended up being a lot more and really impacted me .. also ones that id say surprised me just cause i wasnt really expecting it were Colonel Lagrimas by Carlos Foseca Six Legs Walking by Elizabeth Bernays, and The Archive of Alternate Endings by Lindsey Drager
How many books did you buy? a lot i really dont know tbh

👰🏽 🚣🏽‍♀️ 😭 🐉 for the emoji book game
👰🏽 - What’s your favorite book-to-film adaptation?
Jane Eyre 2011. I can't wait to wax poetic about it on monday bc I am a cary joji fukunaga WHORE I tell you an absolute SLUT for that director's work. aesthetics IMMACULATE vibes UNPARALLELED
🚣🏽‍♀️ - What book from a larger series stands out to you?
first of all I think I've already mentioned animorphs #19 The Departure. absolute masterpiece. second, I utterly hate myself for even having read this garbage, but I enjoyed Faith of the Fallen way more than any other book in the (again, garbage @yn rand propaganda, do not read) sword of truth series as a teen. something about the enemies-to-friends of it all in the ten seconds the author forgot to write shitty republican allegories and wrote characters, I suppose.
🐉 - What’s your favorite series?
it's soooo impossible to choose just one. I love the Locked Tomb books, I love the Monstrumologist books, and as a kid I was obviously quite into Animorphs (see above.) I would mention the Annihilation/Southern Reach books but I like the first one way better than the next two so idk if that counts as loving the series. huh perhaps that should have been my answer to the prior question oops
😭 - What’s the saddest book or scene you’ve ever read?
not a book, but euripides' The Trojan Women is one big downer from start to finish and makes me very sadmad (#AchillesIsOverParty FUCK that guy all my homies hate the greeks ILIUM FOREVER no I have not read madeline miller and I never will because I hate him and no amount of being uwu gay is going to bring back polyxena or astyanax ok. I will destroy that fictional greek trash man if it's the last thing I do)
I was also made very sad by like 80% of what happens in the Locked Tomb books but special mention to the jeannemary incident. that one gets me every damn time. ouch
send me bella's book club asks

10/10-11/2023
tuesday - wednesday
i need to put the days here so i don't forget what day it is. that's still a problem for me.
saw the hellp!!
Tumblr media
look at them, with the ccp behind them. a beautiful image, even if they don't love communism . but i hope they do . or at least one does.
Tumblr media
and i just love getting pictures of people taking pictures. my gf took the first photo, i'm not one for pix at concerts but i felt like some heavenly force was telling me to take a photo of that woman taking a photo.
their visuals during the set were great, i think, they have a sense of humor about themselves definitely but they somehow reach towards what dennis coopers does briefly in his second movie, where this boy loops a gif of someone exploding in a movie over and over, ruminating over his own death/desire to explode, that dissociative image, or the image pulled into / extruded by time into dissociativity, and also, the strange sorrow of trawling old imagehosting sites like flickr and things and finding people's random photos. i think they have something very real with that. also they put in footage from one of the lord of the rings movies and i think those movies suck because i don't like fantasy but i think their repurposing of that footage was kind of great, turning it into a weird emotional spectacle briefly.
izzy spears was, i dunno, he felt like he was cut off live, like prevented from getting where he wanted to go, i loved his moves, and he had a great look, but the music was simply not loud enough (my fault for wearing ear plugs? i dunno.) i kind of get the sense/hope though that there's a lot to look forwards to w/ him. i'm still not all the way on his voice and stuff but the stuff i heard that wasn't on his ep (i think) was produced in a very cool way.
i'm right now trying think if i should faff about with a modular synth for a little bit and then go to bed or not.
i think yves had a great leather jacket, very scorpio rising, and scorpio rising's one of the best things ever imo. so they get to remain in my good graces just for their loox alone.
tomorrow is a big day cuz, idk why i didn't mention this sooner but we're going to denver for a bit, my gf has an obligation there, and i'm tagging along cuz i'm curious. i think maybe a lot of people there will find me disgusting or something but i hope not. i just get that vibe but idunno. i don't know anything about colorado really. i'm excited to see the airport. i'm worried about being able to run the blog while i'm away cuz i can't get the app on my phone. i might steal my gf's laptop and try to login to tumblr from there and do my updates. i need to write my password down and stuff.
okay did that. idk how long my entries will be while i am there, or if she'll let me, but we'll see.
i'm excited to come home and get new ears on my music, and also like, i dunno, read more about butoh and angura i guess. i want to keep researching that, i found a wordpress that's dedicated to researching/writing about it, and that person has subtitled and translated some plays and put them youtube. really cool stuff.
youtube
here's one i'm excited to get to, a shuji terayama work. i love his film stuff that i've seen, so i'm very excited to see this. i've also read some of his short stories, they're very interesting, if not what i expect from the guy who turns maldoror into a short film, a great and very strange one at that. he really keeps it very poetic and loose and strange, the outer limits of the image unconstrained by narrative editing but the presence of a narrative text binding the work, it gets close to experience of impressions and the flights of fancy present in the book, the excessive images and the way they feel in your heart, rather than how they truly play out. i still need to finish that book but i got into it decently. it's just an issue where i go so slow because i want to drink every page totally, taste every inch of it so i can understand and then, understanding it, i can learn and use what i learn in my own writing. it's one of those books, so ornate and expertly written i just can't help but sit there in awe of it i guess.
listening to this album disrobics by this band gay beast is making me really want to mess with a synth, so i'll give myself some time for that right now i suppose.
that was fun. tomorrow i have to ride a plane. that won't be fun, because i don't like sitting still that long it gets borringggg.
i guess i will talk to myself in denver tomorrow night. how strange. i am scared because apparently there are going to be lots of french people, and there's some kind of bedbug epidemic in paris. that wigs me out terribly. hopefully it's not a problem for these people i'm about to be around.
anyways, i should sleep now, byebye!!

Live(ish)blogging my reaction to The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost, for posterity, part one: the long ass introduction I feel obligated to read.
Introduction by Louis Untermeyer:
Every time I read the lore behind poems I know, which is three times, I learn something that fundamentally alters my perception of the work. Only once have I appreciated the insight. This occasion was not that time.
Additionally, and I don’t know why I’m surprised by this, but this guy is such a Robert Frost simp. I truly don’t think there’s a better word to describe it. When explaining how at first only one magazine wanted to publish any of Frost’s work, Untermeyer basically calls all the other magazines cowards with shitty taste:
They were totally uninterested in poetry that refused to repeat the pretty platitudes of verse; they were afraid to consider a new kind of pastoral poetry which, instead of using the shopworn stereotypes of exaggerated country sentiment, showed the country in its quiet, sometimes drab, but always true colors.
Like, wow. Rip to those other poets. Who, you know, were well-liked enough to get published and all that. But no, I’m sure their art was nothing but unimaginative drivel, Frost’s number one hype man says so and surely he wouldn’t be biased.
Moving on: how the hell is “poetic radiator” a job description?! Now I’m picturing Frost sitting against the wall, making loud humming noises and intermittently saying things like “Poems are cool, yo! You should write one!”
Okay, finally some valuable insight. By my definition of valuable which is extremely relative.
Preferring a reality of experience to a retreat to a fantastic dream-world …
Idk if that’s the right way to end that quote. fuck it we ball. This quote is referring to Frost, and it interests me because of what it could say about Arthur’s gravitation towards Frost’s poetry in Malevolent. It also explains why I’ve never felt particularly drawn to Frost.
Yeah, I should say this for context: the only reason I am reading this book, the only reason I bought it at half price books in the first place, is because I enjoyed the poetry included in that podcast. Well, that’s half the reason. The other is that I don’t really get Frost. I appreciate his artistry, but the emotions he conveys are not immediately relatable to me.
Take, for example: the big one. Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening. The first time I learned of it was through the story behind Eric Whitacre’s choral piece Sleep. I don’t remember if I read it then or not, if I did it made no impression on me. Years later when I actually read and reflected on it, an admittedly childish dominated my mind:
why not just go into the woods for a time?
It’s bad weather, just get wherever you’re going late and blame it on the snow or forgetting something. Cell phones don’t even exist yet, you’re free! Nobody needs to know. The miles will be there when you get back.
I know what the poem is saying. I can understand the experience it’s speaking to, even. But unless I really try to get what it’s going for, I don’t. And that’s why I’m here, reading the longest introduction known to humankind, instead of working on the large assignments due tomorrow, as Robert Frost intended-in-reverse-as-in-definitely-would-not-appreciate-especially-since-he-was-apparently-a-teacher.
I want to get Frost’s poetry, or at the very least make my best attempt at it. I’m a nerd, I basically get a stat boost to this type of thing. I can do this. All I have to do is make it through this introduction. And then the actual poetry collection.
I did it. The introduction is finished. I’m being overdramatic, there were only like two pages left. The last thought I have to offer today is on the last line of the excerpt from Frost’s “The Lesson For Today”:
I had a lover’s quarrel with the world.
It’s described as what he wants written on his tombstone. My first thought was “same”, my second was “wait a minute, is this just a universal thing?” and my third was “no, it’s because I refuse to pick a struggle.” Meaning not everyone would describe their existence as such, but plenty of people probably would.
So yeah. This has been a journey and it’s literally just passing through the gateway. Thanks for watching, like and subscribe, I will be back with more at some point.

hey, uno! hope you're doing great! i seriously enjoyed the latest updates (especially the rewritten version of zenin mikoto's story, i've been waiting for so long for that story to update and seeing the link makes me giddy!)
if you don't mind, i'd like to ask; how do you usually come up with the titles for your books? personally for me as a writer, i think one of the hardest part is coming up with a decent title for my works. so i'm wondering how do you decide on yours?
thank youuu! i love mikoto and i've had an ending for her story since i posted the first chapter tbh. buuuut okay, okay, let's move on to the question!
Tumblr media
how do i come up with titles?
note: this is a how do i come up with a title, not really much of a tip-thing, but if you find this helpful, then go ahead :D also, i’m pretty sure ya’ll are asking for a short answer but i like to be thorough, and i can be talkative so hahaha
frog in a well, rain on my parade, kill the goose, and abalone on the shore
all of these titles are based off of idioms
frog in a well represents fushiguro and kugisaki’s refusal to come out of the ‘well’ and thus, relentlessly judges the hero society despite not really trying to understand them; the idiom ‘a frog in a well knows nothing of the great sea’ is basically the best way to describe their situation
rain on my parade comes from ‘don’t rain on my parade’ which is literally ‘to not spoil someone’s pleasure’, and rain is all about ‘spoiling’ kugisaki’s identity; kugisaki treats everything in the naruto world as something that will eat her alive / everything’s out to get her
abalone on the shore represents unrequited love
kill the goose (now, for this, just let me finish froggie, and i’ll throw myself to this fic, swear) is from the idiom ‘kill the goose that lays the golden egg’ means ‘to get rid of something that is profitable to you’, except this one is more complex? i didn’t choose to add the ‘golden egg’ for a reason. aki getting rid of ‘the golden egg’ is aki getting rid of makima who he thought was the source of his ticket to the gun devil, etc etc.
so in summary: these types of titles are just idioms that reflect the story :D it’s really fun to grab some idioms here and there because not only do they immediately seem poetic, but they also add a layer of meaning and anticipation to the story!
the bell of mīdera, begonia begonia, sunday without god, today i too, good thoughts good words good deeds
the bell of mīdera is based off a folktale depicted in the fic itself, just interpreted differently to fit the story.
begonia, begonia is quite literally, based off of the flower ‘begonia’ are typically pink flowers (representing sakura) that mean ‘beware’, so it’s like:‘beware, beware’. with how begonia is going, the title will start to fit in more.
sunday without god is from one of the animes that made me cry the most, sunday without god (literally made me bawl my eyes out); the fic revolves arounds shintoism and are written in a span of a week, which suits it even more.
today, i, too is a song by vaundy. to be honest, i just mostly wanted to use that title but the song is about and is one of my favorite songs. i can’t explain what it’s about because it’s really wow, and just describes the fic very well. so, listen to it. please.
good thoughts, good words, good deeds is a reference to the three wise monkeys which the whole story revolves arounds
in summary: symbolism that references the topic of the story. honestly, just pull up some vague symbolism, make up an excuse, and you’re suddenly in the leagues of ‘very poetic / very symbolic’ titles.
consequences of change, red and orange, concerning a problem, 2/3, (not) breakfast in bed
now ... this one is just ... hard to explain
i just pull it out wherever i pull it, or like, take a quote from the fic, then turn it into a title
Tumblr media
not to be that person but small cases for fics help a lot for some reason ... idk it makes everything more aestheticallly pleasing

kitty i can't wait for your thoughts of Shadow and Bone asdfasfaw
Ok well I just finished and I have so many fucking thoughts. Most good! Some, less so. Part of it may just be my bias because I’ve only read the Six of Crows duology and have little interest in actually reading the original trilogy, because I know how it ends and Leigh clearly hates me personally and doesn’t want me to be happy (/j), so I was already predisposed to be far more invested in the Crows and Darkling/Darklina segments (genuinely, the Mal/Malina scenes/storyline bored me to tears, and while I appreciate that the show went out of its way to change Mal’s character to make him much less of a toxic douchebag [I’ve read enough excerpts and explanations of his actions in the books to really loathe book!Malina], it isn’t enough to make me ship them when Darklina is right there), but I also don’t think it’s a stretch to say that the Crows absolutely stole the show.
It’s actually kind of funny, because I’d assumed they were only being so heavily marketed to hype the show up even more, since while there’s a lot of TGT/SoC fandom overlap they are also two fundamentally different genres and I’d wager there are a lot of people who are massive fans of one but not so enthused with the other, while remaining fairly insignificant to the overall plot. Turns out, they make up fully half of the show’s runtime (much to my delight). Which is part of what I think will help this series stand on its own, both as a book adaptation and simply as a fantasy TV series.
I’ll put more of my story-specific thoughts under a cut, so there’s lots of show spoilers to follow!
I know that a lot of early reviewers were saying that Alina’s motivations and storyline revolved too much around Mal, and that really held true for me. It made sense in the beginning--he was the only constant in her life, she was thrust into something new, terrifying, and completely unfamiliar, and they’d developed an unhealthy codependence as a coping mechanism for their childhoods and the traumas they faced, the lives they lead growing up in a war-torn country. But she started coming into her power, falling for the General--not just his power and charisma, but what she felt when she was with him. The way he helped her summon the sun, the way she felt free in a way she never had before.
Until it all went to shit--but the Darklina make-out scene in episode 5? Fucking iconic. Poetic fucking cinema. The way they were quite literally about to have sex on that wartable (and someone better write fic of that moment, what if they hadn’t gotten interrupted), and the General left, but then he ran back just to kiss her one more time... this is what OTPs are made of ok.
I think what really bothers me overall is that Alina ultimately lacked agency in her one storyline, pretty much the entire way through. She did make a few choices, but they were mostly incidental, and a lot of it was Alina desperately trying to get back to Mal rather than seizing her own power and destiny and running with it. The most prominent example is the end of episode 5--Alina is having happy make-outs and almost bones the General in his own war room, and then he leaves, and Baghra comes in and infodumps to her about how evil he is and how he’s only using her and she needs to escape.
I recognize that a lot of this is probably because that’s essentially what happened in the book and Leigh is an executive producer for the show so she has a lot of shot-calling power. However, I really think that even in the book this plotline would’ve been better-served by having Alina make these discoveries on her own.
For example, imagine that the letters which were used as framing devices for episodes 2 and 3 were vitally important to the plot, rather than being one-offs that are mentioned a few times but not really affecting much of anything. Alina begins to get suspicious when she doesn’t receive word from Mal, and she starts wondering if her letters are even reaching him--so she starts snooping. She finds ashes in the war room hearth, late at night,, and recognizes a fragment of Mal’s signature and larger piece of her own. She now knows that someone--possibly the General, but maybe that creepy priest guy, or someone else in the palace--is keeping her and Mal from contacting one another. So she starts snooping around even more. She asks the General leading questions, trying to figure out what the truth is of his intentions. She still feels this pull--this connection to him, and she hopes she’s wrong, but she’s not willing to just sit around and wait for the other shoe to drop.
The Winter Fete still happens, she still gets the hot make-out session with the General, and then when he’s called away, she snoops through his papers, looking for anything that can tell her the truth. She finds a hidden compartment filled with journals.
She reads about Aleksander’s past (and, incidentally, wasn’t that supposed to be a huge moment in the books, him revealing his true name to her in private? kinda wish it had been kept that way in the show but who knows where they’ll go with it in the future)--that leads to the flashbacks in episode 6. She feels for him, but she also reads further--she gets a firsthand look at his desire for power, something that began as a noble desire to save his people, but was twisted by a lust for vengeance (for his lost love and all the Grisha who were killed) and shot through with greed, the realization that if he found the Sun Summoner he could control the Fold, rather than just destroy it. He could create a new world where Grisha could live without fear--where Grisha could rule.
Alina is terrified. Whoever the General used to be--whatever humanity she saw flickering in his eyes, the way his heart fluttered when they kissed--she can’t trust that it’ll be enough to save her from plans centuries in the making. So she goes to Baghra, the woman who helped her discover her power, learn to channel it--the woman who always seemed to know much more than she ever let on. Baghra gives her side of the story--Alina got it from the General’s perspective first, now Baghra is telling her something framed much differently. She isn’t sure what or who to trust, but she knows that Baghra seems willing to help her escape--but rather than trusting her ‘loyal Grisha’, she makes the choice she made in the show, to choose the other path, and winds up with the Crows.
Idk how Mal and the Stag thing would fit into this (if it isn’t obvious by now, Mal just... doesn’t interest me), but Alina’s story and her character arc would be so much stronger for it. And she’s supposed to be the central character, so her story being weak and her agency so frequently being compromised ultimately hurts the show as a whole.
I know I’ve gone on and on about Alina and the Darkling (look, I’m a slut for enemies-to-lovers, and also lovers-to-enemies-and-back, so Darklina and Helnik are where so much of my investment is rooted--plus Kanej, but that almost goes without saying), but the true standouts of the series were the Crows. Inej, Kaz, and Jesper, and Nina and Matthias in their episodes, stole the show (along with the Darkling, Ben is far and away the best actor in the cast and I love that for him, but Freddy, Amita, and Kit are also amazing, and Danielle&Calahan were fucking phenomenal as Nina and Matthias--I do have to say, though, that the whole cast is really solid and has amazing chemistry).
They worked together so perfectly--Freddy and Amita communicated so much with their eyes alone, especially together, and a whole lot of their relationship dynamic is rooted in how they exist together, which really came through. The show altered the Crows timeline considerably (I’m pretty sure Kaz would’ve been 14 during the original trilogy lol), so Inej is still at the Menagerie, but things like Kaz putting up the Crow Club for Inej’s freedom, the way Kaz needed her but could never bring himself to say it (until the end of the season dklhfgdkjfgh i SCREAMED)--the way Jesper played off the both of them, and it’s so obvious they all love each other even though they’re criminals and thieves and murderers, and Kaz would never admit it (out loud--which actually feeds into my theory that his love language is acts of service; Kaz does things for the people he cares about, he never announces it and he will almost always try to downplay it, but the way you know he cares is if, for example, he puts his entire life, everything he built, up as collateral for your freedom), but they’re a family.
One thing that I was kind of iffy about was Inej’s refusal to kill--but I thought it might be something they were planning to work into her overall character arc, and they did. It was the one line she hadn’t crossed--in the books, I’d imagine that it took a while for Inej to wind up at that point, being willing to kill on top of everything else. So I actually like that they worked that into the Crows plotline, and Inej killing for the first time was to save Kaz’s life.
Just like Kaz’s first selfless act was to save her.
(He’d deny it, of course. He protects his investments. He needed her for the job. But the truth is, he did it for her. And he’d do it again. Even if he’d never admit it.)
Meanwhile, Nina and Matthias’ storyline was pretty much note-for-note according to their backstory as it was revealed in Six of Crows, and I loved every second of it. Their chemistry was perfect, their journey from enemies to begrudging allies to friends to maybe something more (Matthias’ stomach cockblocking them when they were about to kiss had me fucking SCREAMING AT THE TV, and then of course the whole ‘betraying him to save him’ thing happened and I sobbed), and then suddenly right back to enemies.
Because from Matthias’ perspective, he trusted a witch--believed in her, liked her, wanted her--and she turned on him. He has no idea that she wasn’t the one who knocked him out in the first place, and no reason to believe her, because as far as he knows, she just confirmed everything he’d ever been told about Grisha. That they are deceitful and treacherous, would turn on you as soon as look at you, that they are dangerous and not to be trusted. It wasn’t revealed in-show but I imagine Matthias’ backstory is largely the same, which means that his entire family was slaughtered by Grisha when he was a young boy, and then he was turned into a brainwashed child soldier by the witch hunters and never knew anything else.
They are perfectly primed for their SoC arc next season and I, for one, am so stoked to see the rest of their journey. And if I slip Netflix a couple twenties, maybe they’ll let Helnik have a happy ending please please please.
Anyway, yeah! I have a lot of thoughts but things are still percolating in my head so I’ll probably float around the tags for a bit and let things settle. This is just a preliminary overview of my thoughts in the immediate aftermath of bingeing the entire show in one night kldfjghdkjfhgkjgf
EDIT TO ADD: I CAN’T BELIEVE I FORGOT ABOUT THE TRUE STAR OF THE SHOW, M I L O
MILO BEST BOY. MILO THE MVP. MILO DESERVES ALL THAT IS GOOD IN THE WORLD AND I HOPE HE LIVES A HAPPY AND HEALTHY AND FULL LITTLE GOAT LIFE.

Hello.
It is the Unus Annus anniversary and I am fuCKING EMOTIONAL
So I will be ranting.
Proceed at your own risk
Unus Annus was such an inspiration to me, and I'm sure a to lot of other people. I never got to finish all of the videos, and that is something I will probably always regret. I was a fan of Mark and Ethan before, but I would've never considered this. I didn’t find Unus Annus at the beginning, I stuck in the middle and rode out through the end.
Unus Annus really had two main messages that stick out to me. They both help different people. One is that the clock is always ticking, and you will never get a single second back. One quote from the final live-stream really struck me in the gut when I heard it the first time. "Seconds turn into minutes that turn into hours that turn into weeks that turn into months that turn into years." And now that I'm thinking about it, that point was so properly explained when a whole year went by without me even really noticing. It's been a year since I stayed in my room all day to watch that live-stream. It feels like 2 months ago. It feels like 50 years have passed. Another quote really got into my head.
"Imagine if you gave yourself one year. To do one thing. Not the craziness that was Unus Annus, but one thing. One year can change your life."
Idk who knows this, but I'm an author. I've been working on the same book series for... 2 years now? And I don't even have a decent outline except for a vague idea. So, purely because of this quote, starting at new years (2022), I will be dedicating 1 year to work on my book.
The second meaning didn’t really apply to me personally. The main idea of Unus Annus was that you have to enjoy something while it lasts, because it will always end and will only exist in your memory. It was really a reality check for people who were used to forms of media (books, shows, movies, yt channels) that lasted forever, cause in this day and age things just don’t go away. But that was the thing, Unus Annus was gone. Everything around it was being painstakingly and carefully paved into cement,  but it was scratched into a random piece of wood by two 12 year old boys out playing in the woods. Its not forever, it’s not going to be set in stone, just like everything else. Nothing is set in stone, everything will leave or die or be forgotten eventually, and that’s what Unus Annus taught people. And I think that’s beautiful. It helped people dealing with losses in their own lives. I’ve so many stories online of people who had a loved one pass away that hit them hard, and Unus Annus helped them by both being hilarious and consistent, but also talking about the inevitability of death and how we can’t stop it, we can only accept it.
Unus Annus was by no means a dramatic, poetic masterpiece of a channel. It was a shit-post channel, was what it was. It was two idiots with a camera doing as much as they could in one year. You expect this to be poetic? These idiots stuck themselves inside a cryo-chamber, made molds of each others faces, put fake feet into their pants and made a fucking pee sauna, for goodness sake. This channel was a disaster. And that’s what was amazing about it. It was brilliant, it wasn’t beautifully put together by geniuses focused on only humanities mortality. This was created by two best friends laughing in a restaurant. This was two chaotic man-childs trying to summon demons, messing around with sex toys, and singing bullshit songs. (”iT’s tHe dAnCe oF iTaLy, wOaH WoAh woAH”) It doesn’t have to be Deep™ and Old™. It was beautiful the way it was, ADHD bastard having-a-mental-breakdown-half-the-time Ethan “S- skittle-? skrittle-? no-” Nestor and  I-literally-hate-you-so-much-but-only-i-can-insult you Mark “dOn’T tOuCh mE” Fischbach.
Unus Annus’s message is really amazing. They made me view everything in a different light. If a death can bittersweet, no death was more then that of Unus Annus. It’s like an old friend I lost but instead of them reaching out to me or asking for help, they’re gone, and that’s all there is it to it. They’re content and I’m content. Now I must live my life like they taught me.
My greatest accomplishment in life is that out of the 8 billion people on this planet, I was one of the only 1.5 million people that were watching when the clock struck 0. I’ve heard so many stories about that night. People watching it on their tv, people in a video call with their friends all crying, people sitting together in their living room, screaming the countdown. For me, I was sitting alone in my dark bedroom at 2 am. I wasn’t supposed to be awake, but how was I supposed to miss this? I was crying at the end, I think. It’s kinda blurry. I remember leaning forward, my clasped hands pressed to my lips, as I intently watched my phone screen. My world was ending. And yet, my world was just beginning. I still remember the first words that came out of my mouth when the channel was gone. The first thing I said, after all that.
“You motherfuckers.
You motherfuckers. You did it. You actually did it.”
Because they did it. They followed through. And not like ‘oh wow you actually deleted it’, but they followed through. Do you know how much determination that takes? They posted a video everyday, a majority of the time needing them going over to Mark’s house, during the middle of the pandemic. And they posted every day for a whole year. Not to mention having to be consistent on their own channels.  And then followed through with their promise to delete everything. That takes a level of determination you just don’t usually see in youtube today.
Anyway, this post has gotten way too long.  Unus Annus touched my soul and changed me in so many ways. It was and still is such a big and amazing part of my life. It truly was a masterpiece that meant so, so much to me and a lot of other people. Truly, nothing will ever compare to it. It cannot be recreated. It was a first, and it will go down in youtube history. And I really, really hope people don’t forget about the miracle youtube channel that was Unus Annus.

I was tagged by @mousedetective!! Idk how old this is, but it just popped up when I search my username so I’m going to do it now; I’m so so SO sorry if it’s super late!!
You’re given the chance to cure any disease that kills people and to come up with a vaccination that will keep anyone else from getting it. Which one do you choose? Oh, that’s such a difficult question… I would probably choose MS (multiple sclerosis). I had a health scare last year that could have been the onset of MS, and while I’m very lucky that it didn’t turn out to be that, the research I did on that disease definitely makes me want to choose it for this.
If you could adopt any animal as a pet, what would it be? A fox!! Specifically, either a Japanese red fox or a Sierra Nevada red fox. I just love them so much ❤️
Favorite fictional millionaire/billionaire/trillionaire? Tony Stark. I will (and do) fight people that hate him.
Which female character should get the next solo DC Comics/Marvel movies? Riri Williams. I want her to take up the Ironheart mantle sooooo badly in the movies! She’s so cool, and an amazing role model for girls. I know there’s going to be a Disney+ series, but I think a movie (that would also set up something like The Champions or even The Young Avengers) would be amazing 🌟🌟🌟
Favorite moment from any Sherlock Holmes adaptation/ACD canon? Andrew Scott in the pool scene of BBC Sherlock’s Season 1 episode, “The Great Game”. He’s just…poetic cinema. Absolutely phenomenal.
PC, Mac, or Chromebook? Mac, all the way. Once I went Mac, I didn’t go back 😅
If you could get anything in the world on Amazon for under one million dollars, what would it be? This might be kind of silly…but the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics had this stuffed curling stone as a souvenir with the Olympic mascot on it, and I wanted one soooo badly but they sold out before I could get one. I love the Olympics, y’all. I would cry if I was able to get one of those. There’s an unopened one I think on eBay? But it’s like $10,000 and I cry inside every time I think about it. But it’s under one million, so… that’s what I’d choose 😅😅🙈🙈
Do you prefer one long fanfic or a fanfic series (as a reader and/or as a writer)? Ahhhh such a tough question!!! As a reader, I read both. I might have a slight preference for a fanfic series over one long fanfic. As a writer, I tend to either do multi-chap fics and would probably do a series.
Do you name your car and/or electronics? Kind of?? My cars are all named “Little Car”. Doesn’t matter what they look like; they’re all just my Little Car.
What song do you have stuck in your head right now? Bed on Fire by Teddy Swims! Specifically the acoustic version. His voice is absolutely amazing, to begin with, but the song itself is so haunting and heartbreaking that it’s just exquisite. ❤️❤️
Do you mostly watch television shows from your own home country or from other countries? If other countries, which one(s)? I watch mostly from my own home country, but I also love watching British television shows too!
My Questions:
What’s your first fandom? Either the first one you contributed too, or the first one you participated in by reading or by something else?
If you were cast in a movie, would you rather be cast as the villain or as the hero?
If you could live in any fictional universe, where would you like to live?
What’s up next on your queue for movies or tv shows?
Who’s your favorite hero? And who’s your favorite heroine?
What’s the movie or book you always enjoy watching or reading no matter how good or bad other people might think it is?
If you could go to the Olympics, which type: Summer or Winter? And which event?
What’s your favorite holiday?
What’s one thing you did on your favorite vacation?
If you could have any animal for a pet, which would you like to have?
What’s one thing you completed recently? Like, it’s finished; it’s done?
I tag @alexleeanne , @canibecandid , @whitesilenceinthesnow , @mythrianalpha , @syanara , @queenviking970 , @elephantsinthecloset , @schamoo , @pixiidust , @foolap !!

Love Struck!AU x Monsta X
me: im not love struck. hyungwon: _____ me: pause
Shownu
you walk by and shownu sees it in slow motion, rose colored background and angel hymns playing in his ears
the food on his chopsticks falls right down because he’s still staring at the spot you where just in and jooheon gives him a weird look
when confronted with the idea that he sees you as something more than just a friend he short-circuits
“uh....well....that....well it....that....well...”
minhyuk: it’s ok, take your time
you catch him off guard one afternoon, reading a book recommended by one of his friends
you slip in beside him, pointing at one of the lines
“isn’t this a little too poetic for your taste, hyunwoo?”
his lips part, glasses threatening to slide down his nose as he forgets how to string together a sentence
you smile and a warmth bursts through his huge body that he’s never experienced before
you don’t notice his neck go pink as you lean in even closer
he’s so scared you might hear the white noise blaring through his mind as your arm brushes his
“do you like romance novels?”
you question, curiously and shownu wants to say one thing but all he can do is give out a curt
“i like you.”
Wonho
doesn’t know where to look when you’re in a room
eyes go this way and that way and he starts bothering hyungwon for attention or picking at the lint on his sweater
when you address him, smiley and sweet, he knows his ears are on fire
and that if he makes a quick escape you might not notice
so he always has some outlandish excuse
“kihyun needs me to crack his back - he’s getting so old these days!” “i made plans to go to the market.........in busan” “ouch! i think im having a heart attack - talk to you later?”
closes his eyes and the first image in his mind is you - every time
shakes his head like a confused puppy like: stop thinking about them!
but he can’t,,,,,he’s stuck
“i don’t get it - why do i keep thinking about them?”
kihyun deadpan: “you’re in love”
changkyun: “oh i was just gonna say he’s sick, but i guess that’s the same thing.”
for some reason you’re at the gym before him and wonho debates just turning around and dipping
so he keeps going in and out of the changing room with his duffel bag and everyone is like ..........?
until you spot him and wave and boy damn near drops this heavy bag on his foot out of surprise
you show him that you’re getting stronger, flexing up your arm and wonho just can’t control himself
“you’re so cute”
“what?”
“I MEANT........the dumbbells are just getting cuter........huh............”
Kihyun
suaveness backfires on him very hard
“the weather is so hot today and so are,,,,,,,,,” “and so is?” “and ,,,,,,,,, so are ,,,,,,, these pants why’d i wear jeans in the heat hahaha i need to go”
pickup lines he can never finish and you just look at him quizzically as he tries to save face
will not admit it to anyone but practices greeting you in the mirror
gets caught by shownu who blankly watches kihyun posing in front of the mirror until it’s been fifteen minutes and shownu is like dude, get out - i need to shower
loud and confident usually, but somehow it becomes a little awkward when you’re around
voice cracks on two or three occasions
you get invited to the summer barbecue kihyun is throwing and of course he plans everything perfectly
except for the fact that this is a beach and so everyone is showing up in,,,,,,,beach attire
and when you come running down the beach toward him, kihyun drops the burger he was in the middle of flipping and nearly burns himself on the grill
and you’re like oh shit are you ok and he’s like what do you mean im dandy ,,,,, as he almost puts his hand down on the grill AGAIN
and you have to catch him and scold him for not paying attention
and he whines because “it’s hard to pay attention”
and you’re like why??? it’s easy - just don’t put your hand donw on the fire-
but he’s like no no it’s hard to pay attention because,,,,,,,because
you: because???
minhyuk strolling by munching on his watermelon: because you’re in a swimsuit and kihyun has the mind of a dog
you: wh-
OOP too late, kihyun is chasing minhyuk down the beach with his skewers
Minhyuk
won’t shut up about you
“anyway they were playing the piano with me and they were doing so well even though they said they hadn’t played in YEARS!” “i think they cut their hair a little shorter, it looks nice did you guys see it what did you think?” “oh look they have the game they were telling me about-”
it’s like he’s the daily news alert
but all the news is about you
and when he talks about you - his eyes gleam with sparkles, he almost goes into a day dreamy like trance
if hearts could start swirling around his head, they would
but when he is (rightfully so) accused of having feelings for you
he’s like
“WHAT? WHERE IS THE EVIDENCE?”
everyone: our ears hurt because you haven’t stopped talking about them once so ,,,,,, maybe ,,,,,,,, that’s the damn evidence
refuses it before jumping back into a long rant about how adorable and perfect you are
one afternoon, hyungwon decides he’s had enough, so he tells you that you should try beating minhyuk at talking
so you and minhyuk play the compliment game - spewing sweet and corny things about each other back and forth
until you inch close enough that your noses almost brush
and you go
“minhyuk, you’re so pretty far away but up close it’s even better!”
he’s so shocked, flattered, and over the moon that he stares at you speechless
and hyungwon is like “finally. silence”
you start to wrry when minhyuk is frozen for ten minutes straight and you’re like “how do i get him to function again”
hyungwon: idk. kiss him.
Jooheon
faints every time you lay a hand on him
both metaphorically and physically
like you were accidentally pushed against his chest during the bus ride home and next thing you knew he almost blacked out and hit his head on the hand pole
obliviously, you always assume it’s because he’s dehydrated or tired
minhyuk: looking into the camera like he’s on the office
gets all tingly and giggly when you touch his shoulder
makes squeaking sounds when your hand brushes against his
basically becomes a big mushy puddle of heart eyes
and mumbling incoherent sentences of affection
you: omg i think he might be having fever delusions or something
hyungwon: no,,,,,,,,,that’s definitely not it,,,,,,,,,
hates being told he should “just confess” like what the fuck do you mean “just confess” bold of you all to assume he can “JUST CONFESS”
everyone wonders what will happen when you two start dating and jooheon gets to kiss you
like will he just,,,,,,,,turn to dust? probably
you want to join the guys for lunch after their practice but the table is so cramped so you jokingly ask jooheon if “this seat is taken?” will pointing to his lap
never in your life have you seen someone flip their whole plate over to make room for yours and nod so hard you think it might snap their neck
you, embarrassed: o-oh i was just,,,,joking,,,,but,,,,um,,,if it’s ok,,,,,?
jooheon getting ready to just, turn to to jelly when you sit  down:
changkyun: if he dies i get the rest of his rice
Hyungwon
hard to read expression when you’re around but sirens are going THE FUCK OFF in his head whenever you as much as smile
anything you ask him or any questions directed at him from anyone else is just answered with a “hehe,,,,yeah”
can’t formulate much of a thought outside of: holy shit they’re so cute holy shit what do i do holy shit just lean up against the wall it’s fine holy shi-
minhyuk: bro what do you wanna eat?”
hyungwon looking over his head at where you’re talking with shownu: hehe,,,,sure
minhyuk: cool hyungwon machine broken
his nervous habit is chewing on his bottom lip and you think he’s just concentrating on music or on something
but head empty. just you. that’s it.
you ask hyungwon to teach you a little about turntables and being a dj
and he’s like “oh sure” but then you stand directly in front of him, back almost against his chest as you play around with the different switches
and he like,,,,,,,seizes function
and you’re like “oo can i try these on?” pointing to the headphones around his neck
and when you reach out to take them off, he just takes a hold of your wrists and you’re like “oh? i shouldn’t touch them?”
and he’s just like hyungwon, c’mon say something cool. say something that won’t be embarrassing like hehe yeah. this is your moment!
“you can touch me anywhere”
“what?”
“............i mean hehe sure.......”
Changkyun
in capital L love with you but pretends he isn’t
crosses his arms and tries to keep a straight face when it’s obvious you’re doing something adorable and everyone else in the room is like ahhhh cute!!!
changkyun, scoffing: it isn’t even that cute...........
wonho: you shouldnt lie with the lord watching changkyun
changkyun: what
when you’re not looking, he steals glances and lowkey hates the fact that later he’ll be trying to work on something
and he’ll remember how you looked today and it’ll make him pause and just,,,,,,,kinda wish he could just walk over and talk to you
there’s really no reason he won’t just ask you out - he’s just being a big baby
you think he doesn’t really like you all that much so you get a bit anxious when asking him for a favor
but you really wanna throw a surprise party for another member so you end up asking changkyun for some help
but when you do, you accidentally hiccup in the same sentence
and you’re like oh no im a fool but
but changkyun just breaks
“how are even your hiccups cute????????”
“wh-what?”
changkyun, reaching his breaking point over a damn hiccup: “oh my god im in loooooove with you”
“wh-what??!?!?!?”
changkyun, laughing without stopping as he pulls you into his arms LOL
jooheon later on in the day: so you’re telling me you confessed to them because. they hiccuped?
changkyun: yeah. im also contacting the genius world record to ask them to put it in as the cutest hiccup to have ever been hiccuped
jooheon: ok. whipped much.

6. If you read in more than one language, is there a difference between the experience of reading in your native language(s) and reading in other languages?
ooooh thats SUCH an interesting question, since yeah i read in both french and english and theres definitely a difference in experience tbh, first of all like i cant explain how but french and english have inherently different vibes so even reading the same book in both languages feels different you know? also even if i consider myself fluent in english, still happens that if im tired or a bit distracted, it will be harder for me to read and i still need to look up words sometimes lmao so depending on the written style of the book it could be less smooth for me but usually its no problem. also i have to say, i used to think that english would feel less “pretty” or flowy or poetic and you know what? i was wrong as hell lmao, and im so glad ive been getting more into english-language literature! but yeah basically idk how to say it except.......different languages different Vibes™ it just is different atmospheres lol
7. If you’re not a native English speaker, how much do you read in your native language versus how much you read in English? How do you feel about that? // If you’re a native English speaker, go find a book in your second/third/etc language, or in translation, to add to your to-read list
okaaay so !!! super pertinent because see, i couldnt even tell you which one i read more in (like i own more french books physically, but i own more english ebooks, because easier to find in general. honestly i’d say it probably comes pretty even in general, and i dont have any specific feelings about it lol. if a book is originally in english i read it in english, otherwise it just depends. usually classics i will read in french, and others just. basically whatever language i can find, i will say tho for some reason i usually prefer reading theatre in english. i also go through phases sometimes my brain feels wired more in the mood to read in french, sometimes in english. but yeah as a whole? idk which language i read more in lmao
9. Fiction or non-fiction or both? In what ratio? Where do you draw the line between the two?
okayyyyy so. i DEFINITELY read more fiction no questions asked here lmao however i do enjoy non-fiction a lot, its just i dont tend to read it cover to cover (unless its like. stuff im hyperfixating on lol like just blasting through a yuri gagarin biography LMAO) but yeah usually non fiction is like. i enjoy exploring a specific chapter or something, so a lot of non-fiction i never finish or it takes years and years just bc i like look things up sometimes or im in the mood to learn more about xyz specific things. i used to read a lot more non fiction tho when i was like 16-17-18 y/o i read mostly non-fiction lmao i cant tell you why tho lol just. a Mood of mine. but yeah nowadays... fiction 10000% and as to where i draw the line. like. if it has a narrative track of some sort its fiction, and well ofc if its ... fiction lmfao. so like not about Real Events/People and/or Romanticized™ or Novelized™ form of said real events/people, i know it can be tricky w historical stuff but basically if its not like informative, specialized, factual text... i will prooobably put it in fiction

Review/Reaction of IT Chapter Two
Let’s just start right off the bat and let me just say that Bill Hader better get a fucking award for his performance.
Alright. Here we go y’all. im trying to stay in order with what happened but so much happened in the movie that my brain is just all over the place so excuse me while i try to form words
UNDER THE CUT CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS
• first opening scene is a fucking LOT okay like i sobbed my eyes out and it was just not cool. adrian and his boyfriend? CUTE AF. Him getting brutally beat up and then killed by Pennywise while Don just watches? NOT CUTE AF
• Mike is a precious boy and I love him so. He cares about his friends so much holy shit. they all get mad at him for lying to them tho.But he only did it to protect them. Mike knew some SHIT(tm) our boy is so smart?? I’m glad they kept to his original storyline
• Older Bill gave himself so much shit this film and i just felt so bad. like we know it isnt ur fault okay?? We know you loved your brother, stop putting yourself down. also?? him becoming protective over dean? please stop my aching heart.
• Jessica Chastain owns my whole heart and she can kick my ass anyday. She plays Bev so well and captures young bev’s personality so well. her scene with mrs kersh was very weird. i knew the second she ran naked in the hall i’d be seeing some weird fucking shit okay
• Jay Ryan could kick me and I would personally thank him like?? wow what a man. He immediately recognizes bev when he first sees her and im just?? im happy. so many hidden new kids on the block reference and it had me fucking rolling in my grave
• JAMES FUCKING RANSONE MY DUDE OH LORD okay listen. he gives off young eddie’s panic and chaotic energy so perfectly i felt like i was watching him as an adult, who just never grew up. I think thats what he was going for honestly. He played eddie SO FUCKING WELL
• I’m so sad about stan. THats all you need to know okay. I’ll talk about his letter later on in this. Stan deserved better. that’s all.
• if you are not a fan of vomit you’re not gonna enjoy richie tozier. literally any time something bad happens hes just like ah shit here we go again *vomits* and honestly? that made me laugh. like hes just like oh shit something is happening let.. let me just.. no no its fine guys ill catch up.. EHBWFIJHDFSIJ no okay but bill hader stole the fucking show. his acting was phenomenal and,, again,, i’ll add more onto that later.
• richie scares the shit out of dean. because he thinks hes pennywise. but can you blame him? the kid just. stared at him all creepy and shit. but its so funny. the losers make fun of him bc he doesnt know his own lines from his acts and richies just like “I dont write my own material” and eddies just like “I KNEW IT! I FUCKING KNEW IT” dead. goodbye.
• Young losers were still my favorite part honestly. Eddie kept bouncing that stupid ball in stan’s face in the clubhouse and i was waiting for him to get punched in the face tbh. That didn’t even seem like eddie, that was Jack’s energy bursting through the seams lmfao
• young eddie runs into a fucking box and shrieks and if that isn’t me idk ewhdfiajksjdoi
• THE FUCKING. HAMMOCK. SCENE. okay listen to me. thats gay. hammocks are now gay. gays only. gay interacts only. the bickering between reddie had me in TEARS. eddie kept kicking at his face and just?? casually??? lays on him when richie wont move??
• stan’s fucking shower cap ehfdiujasdiosa and then richie being like “nobodys afraid of spiders stanley okay” and eddie slowly removes his because he cares what richie thinks more than spiders ok
• a flashback from after they defeated IT in the first move with reddie “eddie youve been gone for 24 hours your face is most likely on a milk carton by now” “shut up richie”
• yong Richie has me weak af this whole movie, like always. just getting on Eddie’s case. HE PINES SO HARD OH Y GOD Like wow my sweet boy is so fucking in love ouch. which?? BRINGS ME TO MY NEXT POINT??
• THE ARCADE SCENE?? he checks out the kid standing next to him and tries to get him to hang out more and then the other kid tells him to stop being weird because he’s not gay, too, and then uses the F slur. richie was just so hurt. paul bunyun scene happens after that and hes just like “I just shit my pants” and i cried.
• pennywise screaming “lets play truth or dare, you wouldnt pick truth! you dont want them to know your secret” gave off the same energy as eddie’s leper blowjob scene from the book. same energy. do with that as you will.
• they had some flashbacks that included pennywise and im not sure if this was before or after they had defeated IT in the first movie but i interpreted it as after and if thats the case... hes supposed to be dead. but now thinking back on it, it was probably just more scenes before they put pennywise to rest for 27 years.
• young richie went to the kissing bridge after that and we ALL KNOW WHAT HAPPENED THERE. fucking.. r + e :((( although we don’t see him carving the E. but reddie is canon so suck toes antis
• stephen king pretty much being like “I know u and ur endings really do suck” to bill when he comes to buy his bike was so fucking funny. it almost felt like a self insert lmfao. ALSO HIM MAKING BILL PAY 300 BUCKS FOR THE BIKE BC HE KNEW HE COULD AFFORD IT? iconic.
• richie and eddie opening the door to the dog had me laughing. pennywise was just mocking them at that point. they’d be such good dog dads and now im sad
• i was really confused because they added part of stan’s bar mitzvah?? like it wasn’t even the same from the first movie. like they should’ve just put the deleted scene in from ch. 1 and then added that part. thats one of my very few complaints. im slowly hiding them in here.
• henry bowers was kinda irrelevant in this honestly but thank you eddie for stabbing him and richie for killing him for trying to kill mike yall heroes
• BEVS BLOOD SCENE ?? CORRESPONDING WITH BENS BURIED ALIVE SCENE? poetic cinema. 10/10
• the big fight really disappointed me in all honesty. but i think thats because andy said he cut so much from there. i expect it to be better with the director’s cut
• eddie saving richie and then immediately being stabbed by pennywise’s claw? IM DEPRESSED.
• “Rich! rich, i did it! i think i killed him!” Our boy was so happy with himself :(
• eddie’s last words WERE NOT “i fucked your mom”. he was talking to richie and you can hear them talking while the rest are preparing to end pennywise. so im hoping we get that as a deleted scene.
• richie goes back to help finish pennywise but when he goes to check on eddie.. he’s dead. ://// and bev is like “richie, come on, honey.. im sorry” and richie does not want to believe him. he grabs and hugs eddie so tight i swear i could feel that hug from the audience.
• another thing im disappointed in and am sliding in is some of the animations? Like. fucking weird. but okay. luckily i didn’t care too much.
• THE SOB that richie lets out when he holds eddie really hurt my fucking soul jesus christ just kill me
• the losers try cheering him up after and like. thats their friend too but you can just totally tell he’s crying in a different type of grief. THAT WAS HIS FIRST FUCKING LOVE.
• they all remember after and thats really important to me okay
• stan writes letters and its spoken outloud while the other losers get little montages of what theyre doing with their life after the battle. Richie goes back to the kissing bridge and recarves- YES RECARVES AND YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THE E BEFORE HE DOES- he recarves the E and while doing it, stan’s voice says “be proud of who you are” and im fucking cry ibg okay
• in the end, i give this movie a 7/10 rating. although some of the animations were weird and some of the flashbacks had pennywise in it (like hes supposed to be currently dead but ok... maybe nightmares??) the actors were PHENOMENAL and the chemistry between older richie and older eddie made me so happy. my ship is canon. but im still sad about stan and eddies death.
• ignoring canon in 3.. 2.. 1.. now

36: Define Art. creating something, it can have a meaning but it also can’t, a lot of people give it a deep meaning, which can be it, I just think art doesn’t always have to be deep are spectacular it can be someone making something because they have so much going in their head and they find peace in creating art and get inspired by their own experience, people also can it just do for fun, there are so many different kind of art and artists, I don’t think it can’t be defined

71: You are walking down the street on your way to work. There is a dog drowning in the canal on the side of the street. Your boss has told you if you are late one more time you get fired. What do you do? save the dog obviously!!!!
72: You are at the doctor’s office and she has just informed you that you have approximately one month to live. a) Do you tell anyone/everyone you are going to die? b) What do you do with your remaining days? c) Would you be afraid? I think I would tell people, I’m not sure, but like so have people got the time to say goodbye the way they want to, I would travel the world I think, do everything on my bucket list, maybe some illegal stuff 🙈 (where no one gets hurt tho obviously), I don’t think I would be afraid... I mean I’m suicidal, I’ve literally been connected to death my whole life, if you understand what I mean
73: You can only have one of these things; trust or love. uhm trust I think? If I would have love but don’t have trust I wouldn’t really feel loved anyway, I do really want to experience how it feels like to be loved tho...

78: Can insanity bring on more creativity? yes I think so
79: What is the single best decision you have made in your life so far? to get dogs
80: What size shoes do you wear? uhm 38 eu, 4,5 uk and 7 us
81: What would you want to be written on your tombstone? a loving ... I hope to be a loving daughter, friend, wife and mother, someone who was always there for others

94: You have the opportunity to sleep with the music-celebrity of your choice. Who would it be? I find this so weird to say for some reason... if I have to give a name it would be harry styles I think, because damn look at that man, but I don’t know, I would rather be friends with him than sleep with him tbh, I know you can do both haha, but idk I’m not like yes I want to sleep with him haha, I think I’ve read too many fanfics about him that I would find it awkward

99: If the whole world were listening to you right now, what would you say? you’re all ignorant assholes haha, no idk what I would say, there are a lot of good people on this world I know, but man there is some fucked up shit, so maybe I would educate some people or it would have something to do with mental health, maybe about loving yourself or that it’s not a sign of weakness and that we should be treated as equals to physical pain, we should be taken seriously... I don’t really know, there are so many things haha

The Leverage finale
Gonna rant in public because @rainaramsay expressed interest. I have no theme this is just my thoughts as I rewatch this episode. Idk why I’m doing this. (Also I don’t know how to format, so sorry about that)
Oh right I forgot that this is a fucking sad episode why am I doing this to myself
Ooh the return of the Steranko! I am very glad they brought that back
I just love when they bring things back in general, like in the white rabbit job all of the companies looking to buy dogson are previous marks and how they have like three brand names for safes that they reuse a lot. It just makes it feel like a real world that people live in.
The theater! Perfect for Sophie! And the mentioned the tunnels, which I believe we encountered in the gold job
Sophie says “I have just the thing” and my immediate response is always “the play’s the thing” even though I know it’s from a different play than the one they are doing
And can we talk about how they are doing the same play as the pilot? Actually I will probably yell about that closer to the end
Parker being all emotionally cognizant and Nate just reciting physics formulas in response
God I love this bit (and I love that they are still including references to Nate’s alcoholism)
Just, Parker, the new mastermind, who doesn’t “let feelings get in the way” (like Hardison - this is the reason he can’t be the mastermind, much to his chagrin. He’s too much of a cinnamon roll)
Nate says she spins problems like puzzle pieces until they click, but I think it’s more like juggling all the fiddly bits inside a lock until it clicks open
HE TRUSTS HER HE TRUSTS HER HE TRUSTS HER!!!!!!!
Zachary is the lead! Love him!
Sophie saying she doesn’t miss acting at all 😏
She is a good director, though
"I'm exactly where I belong" I'm gonna die I am so happy for all of them
Oh no here we go
Cut right to Nate covered in cuts being interrogated about the mistakes he made
"Mr. Ford, how did your friends die?" CUT TO COMMERCIAL
This must have killed me the first time around
I do love this investigator though. I think I remember from the commentary that it wasn't originally supposed to be her, but it worked out really well
Nate looking around like he's confused (and trapped) while not being able to put together a full sentence (I'm not sure if I ever developed a solid headcannon for how much of this scene was him faking and how much was actual injuries from the actual crash) (I'm open to ideas!)
Ellen giving a vicious predatory little smile when she says that she's here to help him
I wish I could do gifs or screencaps or something. This is one of my absolute favorite callbacks! Parker in that little black bonnet thing jumping off a building having the time of her life and the boys do their "twenty pounds of crazy in a five pound bag" thing (whuch my autocorrect recognized as a phrase for some reason? Do I really yell about that but enough for it to suggest those words in that order? Fantastic)
But this time their faces and voices are full of affection. She may be an insane thief/mastermind, but she's OUR insane thief/mastermind
And coming after the white rabbit job where we had that line about how she's not and never has been crazy, the fact that you can tell they are saying this as a callback without meaning the crazy part is just perfect
It makes me wonder how many other times they have repeated this, because you can't convince me they haven't
Aah Sophie's horrible rendition of Lady Macbeth! Same speech, different ways of doing it just as badly (props to Gina Bellman)
Is this the same outfit? Hold on I need to check.
Y'know, I didn't think they changed that much physically over the years, given that they are adults, but going back to the pilot, I keep going awww look how tiny they were! (Especially Aldis. Like I know they had problems because he was getting too hot and ripped, but Damn)
Anyway, the dress is very very similar, same color and pattern, but it very slightly different. I will maybe post my very very horrible pictures after I finish this
Parker is so good at computers now that she has this adorably bored face when hacking! I love that they taught each other their stuff!
Using chaos as a distraction and co-opting the expected response as a cover! One of my favorite tricks!
Parker changing in the elevator! And the boys turning to give her privacy! And this isn't even the first time they did a callback to this! I love my respectful boys! Remember when Hardison turned the David around? So pure!
Ah, we are setting up for competency porn and then it all goes bad! Aah!
I love Eliot's little "wassup?" Before fighting the guy. Points for intimidation, Spencer
My stronk babies opening an elevator with their fingertips
And Hardison's recurrent fear of heights combined with Parker's love of them
She says "I got you" (twice)
Oh god Beth's acting in the elevator shafts
Oh I'm gonna cry
Oh and a "dammit Hardison"
Oh Gina's face
Even in a situation as tense as this, Eliot still takes the time to empty the gus and toss it away
I don't think I've ever seen him check for an ankle piece, actually. How has that not come up before now?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
"Age of the geek, brother" I'm sobbing
I mean, so is everybody
Look at this acting!
I love that they didn't go for the clichéd established couple dying in each other's arms, but instead put Eliot in the middle, giving us our yummy hurt ot3 goodness
And Parker sitting up so she sees the other two go
Ugh. Where's that poetic cinéma image when you need it?
Anyone remember the perfectly timed bridge from the pilot?
What number Lucille are they on?
I love that they actually stop in from of the barrier at the bridge, then take a moment to decide before just going for the crazy impossible stunt because why the hell not at this point
Ah Nate and Sophie are holding hands on the way to death too!!
And cut the scene before they reach the top of the bridge. Time to see Tim show us why he's an academy award winner
Ooh and here's where we find out she was lying! (Should this be the part where I started wondering if Nate knew? Probably. Did I? Not even a little)
There was a big twist where the person Nate was facing off against was playing him in the pilot too
But John fucking Rogers didn't play ME in the pilot. I take that personally.
Ooh hints at the true story are being dropped
Ellen is almost adequately suspicious
JUST WALK TWO FEET FORWARD ELLEN! LOOK AT THE STAGE! COME ON!
"You loved them very much" Yeah he did. They all did! Aaaaaaahhhhhhhh!
She knows he's lying, I love that (just like Dubenich knew Sophie was manipulating him)
"The only thing I ever had"? That's intense, Nate
God Tim is a good actor
(Like I low-key don't like Nate at all, but Damn he is well acted)
And he just turns it off, just like that
Wow
I am really into her little impressed face when he goes all Sherlock and explains how he knows they are at interpol
The glass! Of course Sterling brings him the glass! Not a pilot callback, but a good callback nontheless. The commentary says it's literally the same exact glass every time. I will have to go back and verify that at some point. I swear it didn't have those ridges around the bottom in at least one episode, but I also trust John Rogers, so idk
I love how sterling knows everything from the moment he appears, and Ellen doesn't even know what the black book is
"That's why you joined Interpol? Screw justice. You're the order guy?" What a good line for Nate and Sterling's relationship
Nate's not even interested in hearing Sterling's evil speech of evil about the bailouts
I actually really love the little exposition flashbacks
Her look of horror and dawning comphrension when he explains why he is there is fantastic. If we bring this show back, can we have more of this lady?
Yeah, Ellen, why IS he still lying to you??
Sterling remembered to be cautious about the coroner's van, but not cautious enough!
That's some timing. How did Nate arrange that ? Oh right, this was triggered by the arrival of the van, which he probably set the timing of
Nate's face after "Parker's still in the server room." Yes, sell that fear to Sterling! Make him believe he's right! I wouldn't have thought to fake a reaction to that. But that's why I'm not a griffer
And he trusted sterling to have a snark remark so that he could have an attention-stealing reaction to distract him
I try every time to see the kids going in, and I never manage to catch all of them
Why does Nate turn away here?
God, that really is a terrifyingly lifelike Hardison face
I gotta say, the first time I saw sterling shoot the Hardison corpse, I was really convinced that he was right and he was really killing Hardison for the first time
"Second question... No, Nate, why don't you tell her what my second question is?"
Honestly, the first time around, I had forgotten about that secret meeting between Nate and Hardison
"The plan's the thing" A callback to earlier in this episode. I'm dying. I love this show so much
And they can do that without being annoying because every leverage episode is like three or four episodes rolled into one. Sometimes more!
That's one of my favorite parts, but also one of the very few downsides
I get so excited watching the flashbacks that show how it all happened
Omg I love the thing where they stack! Parker crouching, Eliot just above her head, Hardison looming tall! It reminds me of the princess bride for some reason
Sterling is the Trojan horse, the way out is the way in...wait, didn't they do that with at least one other episode, where the floor was a horrible way in, but last minute they used it as a way out?
Are these callbacks or parallels at this point?
Sophie taught Nate how to act! "She found her calling." Yeah she did! So proud of her!
"Your ride to a life sentence in a secret prison has arrived" So dramatic for someone who knows Sophie is behind the wheel
Ooooooohhh he called him James!
"You and I are not the same" okay sterling
"Justice is always easy" YES GO STERLING wait that's a callback to the justice vs order thing earlier in this episode. I just got that
I have seen this so many times and I still notice something new every time I watch it
Does John Rogers have a tumblr? I want to tag him but I don't think he does
What is Parker wearing? Why is one sleeve randomly yellow?
I can't believe Nate is proposing in a hoodie
I love how the kids pop in with insults and Nate just agrees. He knows it's true
That's a huge fucking rock
"Did you steal it?" "No." "Oh, cause that would have been more romantic"
"I'll steal the first anniversary ring" lol I love these guys
Parker insists he follow the proper procedure
Oh wait, the ot3 are gonna branch out with other crews?
Y'know, in an alternate universe I could have shipped Eliot and Sophie
GOD
I'M CRYING AGAIN
"You're the smartest man I know" where have we heard that before?
Parker recognizing her feelings! (And they've been preparing her for this the longest)
Aah, the circle shot from above and the breakaway, but this time not everyone breaks away!!!!!!!!!!
"You do know that Laura is not my real name, don't you?" Sophie I'm gonna kill you
And then the big obvious callback to the pilot, where Beth meticulously studied Tim's acting to recreate it
Loving the look of this scene. The costumes, the blocking, all of it
And they made sure to switch which parent was crying
Very excited for leverage international. Gimme!

Hi, Ais! I had read The Foxhole Court trilogy thanks to you and I loved it! (not as much as I loved ICoS hehe). Can you recommend me more books as good as TFC and ICoS? It can be fantasy or fiction, M/M romance would be great too. What are your favorites? Please help me find something good!
Yaaay! I’m so glad! God I love that series T_T Nora write more everything plzzzzzz
It’s like me with One Piece, lol; it’s a life’s goal to keep recommending AFTG/TFC to everyone I meet who may be even a little bit interested XD And like OP, if I ever hear anyone ends up reading/liking it I get so happy lol
[[Oh damn - also I always fail to tell people this and just realized, RIGHT BEFORE POSTING, I should probably go back up and mention - FYI I’m working on an LGBTQIA+ fantasy/sci-fi series called Wildwood Rising, first book is Incarnations. In case you’re curious. I’m editing it super slowly atm, but on my Patreon I give updates here and there on it. Anyway read the glossary + first 4 chapters for free here, although I’ve actually done some editing which will make the chapters change so keep in mind that’s super draft mode. More info at my writing masterlist if you need it.]]
Anyway I have a few thoughts on recs, but FIRST - I have to give a disclaimer. Also even the disclaimer has to be under a cut apparently because RAMBLING
DISCLAIMER - so you know whether or not to listen to any of my opinions:
I am an extremely character-driven reader. I like stories that have plots, absolutely, because I usually can guess the ending of a plot a few steps into a story and that gets boring and old fast.
Which is probably why to me, characters are the most important part of a story, as is character progression.
I need to feel like I get that character, whether or not I agree with them every moment of their choices, and if the story is a romance with a couple, I have to truly be sold on the idea that THESE TWO should be together, not just because they happen to fulfill tropes of whatever is currently most popular in whatever genre, but rather because they actually fit as two human beings who I could realistically see falling in love.
I also really like reading stories of people STAYING in love if it has to be a romance; I get really bored by stories that spend all this time getting someone together, and the whole thing is believable until sex gets involved and suddenly they’re instabanging and then that’s the end of the story. Because sex = healthy relationship?? idk, it’s honestly probably the fact I’m asexual that this is a pet peeve of mine.
Anyway this is absolutely not shade but so many books which people think of as “m/m” have a totally different vibe than what I tend to want to read. They are often written specifically to be sort of male sexual romance books in which the point of the story is to get two dudes together sexually and then if there’s story beyond that, bonus Jonas, and if not, well, at least they whipped their dicks out on page.
I’m not at ALL knocking this type of book, or people who like reading those sorts of books. There’s damn good reason to write and read those sorts of books, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with them. I mention this only to say that for me, as a reader, my attention span is soooooo short dude. I have little to no attention for stories that revolve almost completely around sex, especially if the sex isn’t even built into the character progression.
But here’s where there’s a huge difference for me: the characters.
If I connect with the characters, I will read almost anything. I’m a reader who’s phenomenally biased toward reading character progression and preferring a mixture of darkness with lightness in the story - dark themes but also humor, some sort of balance like that. Whether or not characters have sex, whether or not there’s a solid romance at the base of it, whether or not a lot of things I care about less than I care about connecting with the characters.
Ideally for me, a book series or even a singular book has a good plot that’s interesting, great characters, great character progression, and a variance in emotions combined with solid enough worldbuilding that I feel like I’m there. But for me, to read and recommend something, I could give a lot of passes on an underdeveloped plot if the characters and their progression is great enough, but if it’s the best plot in the world and the characters don’t grip me I will never recommend it.
Also, again, this is no shade to m/m as a genre, and more of an explanation of my phenomenally short attention span and super pickiness as a reader… but I find that a lot of the stories I try reading that are marketed as m/m start out strong for me as a reader, but by the end I’m less enamored. The ending is too abrupt or I don’t like the dynamic of the main couple or the vibe is off or the plot is too easy to predict or etc etc. So I really only have a very small list of m/m I ever recommend tbh - I tend to like stories that aren’t specifically written to have gay/LGBTQ male leads but rather feel like they are a story which happens to feature LGBTQ/gay male leads. That may seem like a minor difference but for me, the vibe between the two is massively different, and can dictate whether I love something all the way through or not.
I just wanted to mention that because I know not everyone feels the same way, so if you really love plot more than characters, you may want to take some of my recs with a grain of salt because you may find you don’t love them as much as I do, and you love other things more. I feel like honestly I’m way too picky of a reader probably, so other people probably have much better lists.
(Oh yeah btw, all of this is me framing things as a reader. To be clear: I’m not saying AND IN CONCLUSION I AM THUS A BETTER WRITER or anything at all like that lol I’m not a better writer than anyone tbh. I’m just saying as an extremely picky reader, these are stories I like and/or things I think others should give a try if it speaks to them)
M/M:
DEFINITELY RECOMMEND
Raised by Wolves by W.A. Hoffman is my other favorite m/m series along with TFC/AFTG, and I have been recommending the two at the same time for literal years. This post is me waxing poetic about it and why I love it. So is this post. Also here too which tells you the book order etc. I love the hell out of that series, but it’s definitely the sort of series that people may have a strong reaction to for various reasons. Let’s just say if you were to actually do a bunch of trigger warnings for ICoS, the list would be long. RBW would have a similar list that’s similarly long, probably. I need to read the latest story that came out from RBW a year or two ago; only reason I haven’t is I totally want to reread the story from the start but goddamn that’s an undertaking if I do lol I might though, after I finish my current ebook read. This series is finished (well, idk what the newest short story is about but as for the main series, it’s done)
MOSTLY RECOMMEND
Psycop by Jordan Castillo Price - one of my flaws, probably, is that I’m too honest, and I don’t ever mean to be a dick but I also can’t stand the idea of misleading anyone or lying. So in all honesty, the plot on this series can be kind of frustratingly light or predictable at times. HOWEVER, I looooove the characters. I frickin LOVE Victor Bayne, the MC. I’d started this series ages ago, read through like book idk 5? 6? and got kind of frustrated by some plot stuff, never finished reading the series. Recently I randomly remembered it and decided to try it again. I read all the way through all 10 books and then almost immediately started over again because I was curious to reread from the beginning knowing some things now. There are some things this series does super well, IMO, and I could do a whole post on this series if anyone wants. But tl;dr is I really like the worldbuilding of the psychic powers, I LOVE how Victor’s such an unreliable narrator and how the series deals with showing the way anxiety and addiction and etc affects the mind, and I LOVE how the main couple at first seems super like wtf?? in terms of how quickly it comes on (like, literally, first chapter - just read it lol) but the more you read, you see how perfect they actually are for each other. One thing too: I almost didn’t read the 8th book (Skin After Skin) because it’s got a minor character as the main POV and I wasn’t sure I wanted to break my roll going with Victor as MC. But I did read it and I’m very glad I did. If you read this, DEFINITELY read book 8 where it is in series - it gives you a really good, more objective view of the main couple, plus it’s interesting seeing the characters from a totally different viewpoint than Victor. The series is ongoing but I still recommend it. If you want to check it out, JCP has the first half of the first book available for free to read, and you can buy the books on Amazon etc - http://psycop.com/stories/ATLexcerpt.html#buybook
NOT SURE YET IF I RECOMMEND
Widdershins by Jordan L Hawk - This is the first book in a series called Whyborne & Griffin, of which it looks like from the quickest glance at Amazon so far there are 10 books? I’m trying to do next to no research on the series because I want to be surprised. Kobo tells me I’m about 23% through the first book, just about to start chapter 8. I have this listed under “not sure yet if I recommend” because as aforementioned, I have a tendency to have a totally different view of a book or series in m/mdom at the beginning vs end of the first book or the books in the series as a whole. So far I really like it though, and I hope it remains a vibe I can get behind, because right now I’m really enjoying it :) I love nerdy MCs. Languages are my jam, man.
OTHER SERIES I LIKE
I’m mostly just gonna say titles/authors on these with short mentions because this is so long but I can talk more on any if you want:
The Tamir Triad by Lynn Flewelling (sometimes called by its first book: The Bone Doll’s Twin). I don’t want to say too much on this so I don’t spoil you on anything. It’s kind of dark and pretty richly written, though.
Six of Crows + Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo. I talk about the series here, and talk about “if Kaz were in ICoS, he...” here.
Plus a bunch of other mentions of authors or books here
LASTLY - non-book recs aka shows? I totally recommend the tv show Lucifer, just sayin. And Brooklyn 99. And Nate and Jeremiah By Design but that’s getting into the HGTV territory of the world so I should probably stop.... lol
