So did Dr. Gaul just not want any winner for the 10th Hunger Games and that’s why she released her snakes into the arena, knowing they’d kill everything with an “unfriendly” scent or was that another test for Coriolanus. If it was a test and he failed, what was her plan for the Hunger Games winner?

#the ballad of songbirds and snakes #the hunger games #listen i know that there’s an ‘antidote’ if that’s what you want to call it #but every tribute was bitten by multiple snakes multiple times #and it didn’t look like there was anyone waiting to rush in to save the one who only got bit a few times #i assume based on what katniss has said and the whole thing with the double suicide = no winner #that they NEED a winner and that they’re willing to pull out the #tribute who lasted a few seconds longer than the others (ie when the competitors froze to death) #but i don’t actually see how they could have pulled it off in this instance #i’m rereading the book #maybe i’m forgetting something critical and dr gaul calls her snakes to her with a whistle like dogs or something idk #that brings up another interesting thought about the mutts and how long it took to learn to control them #particularly across various species #particularly since the birds had to be hand-caught via nets and couldn’t just be whistled back into a cage #AU where coriolanus just lets lucy grey die in the arena #au number two where dr gaul’s snakes get loose in the capitol and start killing citizens

Great time to remember that, in the books, Percy didn’t actually come to understand just how terrible the gods are (as a whole) until The Last Olympian. And he didn’t start to get bitter as hell about it until even after that. The show is doing a great job of setting this up, in my opinion.

The show really hits you with the fact that Annabeth is the head counselor for the Athena cabin. Like, obviously she’s been there for a long time, but none of her older siblings are more fit for the job? How many others who are more experienced and older have already ventured off on deadly quests, never to return? Just how much death and tragedy has this girl witnessed at camp?

Yes Jane should have married Rochester:

1. Even at the beginning of the book, Jane talks about needing something to take care of. This is something fundamentally intrinsic to her. She believes human beings are literally wired to take care of others. By the end of the book, who do you think takes care of who?

2. During her initial engagement to Rochester, she actually fights back against him when he calls her “elfin” and ethereal. She wants to be seen as a woman, not a vision. It’s very telling that she actually marries him at the end when he changes his view and learns his lesson. It’s very telling she marries him when she is a woman of her own means and discovers her family. She only marries him when she herself realizes she is her own independent person. It is not a “girl no,” moment. It’s a marriage where she actually has the upper hand.

3. Girl doesn’t marry him immediately when she finds him. They talk first. They talk for a long time. They tease each other. I would argue this is where she truly falls in love with the man at this point. (Same thing with him)

4. I am tired of the narrative that true female empowerment is to be single. True empowerment differs from woman to woman, and as we established at point one, Jane’s character is literally someone who wants to take care of others. Furthermore, being in an equal partnership, being in love, is empowering and I’m tired of people saying it isn’t.

5. It’s not that she “should.” She wanted to. She likes him. They have fun conversations. The end.

This might be a hot take, but I actually like that Percy figured out Luke was the traitor at the last minute. There were A LOT of clues that would’ve been hard to ignore, and he ignored them for as long as he could. And it’s clear that even after accusing Luke, he’s still surprised and heartbroken at Luke’s confirmation of his suspicions. He was holding out hope, guys!!

Also, the Betrayal Scene flows better as an exchange of dialogue and a swordfight than it did, in the books, as a monologue and a scorpion sting. This also leaves a bigger impact on the viewers and characters because it’s more emotional.
