The Dog Scene from The Super Mario Brothers Movie
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thank you @scribeprotra  for permitting me to unleash this. Followup to this post: X
First of all, this scene is the first time we get to see Mario do actual plumbing, and it establishes that this business isn’t just a pipe dream (ha ha). Mario is actually a really skilled plumber. He sees the problem, knows what to do in an instant, and wraps it all up in less than a minute. So later, when all of Brooklyn is flooded, and Mario laughs that the hired workers “aren’t even looking in the right place”, we can believe he knows what he’s talking about.
Tumblr media
Then, comes trouble: Francis The Dog, Mario and Luigi’s first real adversary... a kind of tutorial boss fight. Foreman Spike was antagonistic, but he was all talk. He would bully, threaten, and get aggressive, but he wasn’t going to throw the first punch. Francis, however, is out for blood.
We see an echo of what happened earlier when they confronted Spike. Mario stands between Luigi and danger, pushing him back, ready to defend him. However, unlike Spike, Francis doesn’t walk away, he goes for the throat, and it throws both brothers off kilter.
Luigi, while anxious and fearful, proves he’s not a man of mindless panic. When Francis comes at him he’s yelling for Mario’s help, but he himself is climbing to higher ground while grabbing the nearest available object (a toilet brush) to defend himself. This pattern continues for the rest of the movie: though he isn’t much of a fighter, his survival instincts are quite good.
Mario, on the other hand, immediately turns combative when Francis goes after Luigi. He draws the dog’s attention, and they skirmish for a bit before Mario finally seals Francis off inside the shower. Mario is not exactly a warrior yet, but he definitely has good fighting instincts.
Of course, let’s not forget Luigi holding off the jet of water with the mirror foreshadowing him holding back Bowser’s flames with the manhole cover. That’s been talked about before... I want to talk about THIS shot:
Tumblr media
Mario is holding out a wrench like a sword, Luigi is holding up the mirror like a shield. That is them in a nutshell, and why they work so well together: they are sword and shield, offense and defense, impulse and caution, working together to balance each other out.
When Francis leaps at them, they instinctually hold on to each other for dear life, but still manage to duck out of the way at just the right moment as the dog accidentally flings himself out the window behind them.
Despite the dog being a violent threat, he is also a beloved pet to the homeowners. So what does Mario do? He throws himself out the window after Francis.
Tumblr media
He trusts Luigi won’t let him fall, and he doesn’t. There was no time for a plan to be discussed, they were simply on the same wavelength.
IN CONCLUSION: The dog scene is what introduces the audience to the very different ways Mario and Luigi react to danger. It also shows us how tight their bond is, and why they work off each other so well, even beyond the emotional support they provide each other. The one downside is that the scene hints at a really cool fighting dynamic that we didn’t have time to properly explore in the film. The next time Mario and Luigi are fighting side by side they’re effortlessly mowing down enemies with the power star, and the sword-shield dynamic is lost. But I’m very excited to see the future of how they work as a team now that we’ve established the setting and set the two up to become heroes.

A prompt if this sings to you... established relationship mid-30s sidgeno taking in a rookie to live with them? Maybe a Russian? Maybe not! Maybe it's ABO and the baby alpha is overwhelmed by milfy Sid/baby omega is overwhelmed by dilfy Geno? Maybe not! IDK I just want to see an awkward 18 year old being completely rabbit in the headlights witnessing these two icons and heroes being dorky and frisky and middle-aged at home.
Ooooh I love this!
This isn't my best work, but I haven't written in ages and I'm rusty, so—you get what you get, haha. But this is such a fun concept and I had a lot of fun thinking about it!!! That's part of why it's so disjointed I think, I had so many ideas about how this could look and what it could involve and I wanted to cram everything in. Maybe I'll revisit this when I can actually properly use the English language again and clean it up!
--
Mack doesn't get a choice about where he lives his rookie year.
Not a lot of guys do, really—if they're bouncing between the A and the big club, they get real familiar with a few specific hotels, and if they make the show right away the team usually encourages them to look for something in a particular neighborhood—but Mack, after the excitement of the draft was over and the contract negotiations began in earnest, didn't even get that much leeway.
He's a first overall pick. He's an omega. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins. Of course he'll be living with Sidney Crosby and his mate.
Crosby—call me Sid he'd said, backstage after Mack stumbled his way onstage and held up his jersey and smiled so hard his face hurt—sends him and his parents an email in late summer, offering up a suite in his house in one of Pittsburgh's suburbs. He'll have a bedroom, a bathroom, and a living area to himself, along with a small fridge, and Sid says he'll help Mack get a car, too, if he doesn't already have one.
Mack's agent is copied on the email, along with four names from the Penguins organization that Mack doesn't recognize. It's not really an offer, after all.
Mack's parents are overjoyed. They're both betas, and when Mack presented his mom had practically lost her mind trying to figure out how to parent him appropriately, and they'd both been desperately worried about him living on his own. As if that had been an option; every interview at the combine included some discussion about where he'd stay, and it seemed like every team had a plan, no input from Mack required.
His dad's more focused on what he'll get out of living with Hall of Famers. "Watch how they spend their time off," he says to Mack as they're standing at Pittsburgh International. They'd all driven down in Mack's new car together, and spent the last two days getting him settled in and seeing the sights, and now his parents are flying back to Vancouver. "You're never going to have a better example than Malkin and Crosby. Pay attention to them, and you'll be fine."
Mack's not sure that this is quite what his parents had in mind.
Sid's amazing, of course. He knows what it's like to be an omega in the league—for all there are more now than when Sid was drafted, they're still an extreme minority, and going first overall, over all the alphas eligible, has only happened twice. Well, three times now. He walks Mack through the accommodations at the rink, connects him with the dynamics counselors and heat coordinators, and he spends a lot of time just listening to Mack, sharing his own experiences and talking him through his panic and nerves. Mack's lucky, and all the guys from BU are jealous as hell, constantly blowing up the GC with questions that Mack's not gonna answer in a million years.
Geno, though?
Mack's been around alphas his whole life. Sports at a higher level are riddled with them, obviously, and omegas aren't cloistered away anymore—he's not required to cross the street if he approaches an alpha, and North America has been totally integrated for decades.
There's getting in board battles with alphas his own age, though, or interacting with random people out in the world, and living with an alpha in his 30s, in the space he's marked as his.
Geno's not nervous around him. Which, obviously, why would he be, but Mack's used to the guys his age being a little on edge, a little anxious, a little fumbling in the presence of Mack's pheromones. Geno's a whole-ass adult, though, and he's been mated to Sid for as long as Mack can remember, so of course he wouldn't give a shit about some 18-year-old kid.
The whole house smells like Geno, a mix of coconut and snow and citrus. It's comforting; Mack's never slept so well in his life, and it just feels safe, knowing that there's an alpha around all the time. Sid's left his mark too, of course, but there's no escaping that an alpha lives in this house, an alpha who's strong, and confident, and sure of himself.
It takes Mack two whole weeks before he can talk to Geno without turning bright red and stuttering. He'd feel more embarrassed by his behavior, the way he reacts to Geno's scent, if he thought Geno noticed for one single second.
Because the thing is, what Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin seem to spend most of their off-hours doing is...each other.
Mack's never walked in on them—they're too thoughtful, and he's seen the way Geno stares down other alphas who look a little too closely at Sid, he's not interested in anyone seeing Sid that way—but he can smell them, all over the house. Geno's got a hand on Sid constantly; at his waist as they move around each other in the kitchen, on his legs when they sit on the couch, cupping the bond-bite on Sid's neck when they think they're alone. He smells like he wants Sid all the time.
And Sid absolutely reciprocates.
Mack can't blame him. If he had an alpha like that— He doesn't let himself go too far down that path, because he has to live with them, and he's too young anyway, he wants to focus on his career for a while, but there's something about how happy Sid looks, the way he teases Geno until they're both pink and smiling, the way he gets this look in his eye when he watches Geno putter around in the kitchen, that makes something in Mack's gut twinge with longing. He wants this, someday—a mate, a home, someone who makes him that happy.
He just wishes they'd do a bit more to hide when they're going off to fuck, though. Mack's cycle is still irregular, and being this close to a mated pair who are having sex practically every night—Mack is shocked they can still do it that much at their age—is gonna push him into early heat one of these days, and then he'll have to ask for a ride to the facilities, and Geno will know, Geno will smell it on him, and they'll both be so nice and understanding and go out of their way to assure him it's normal and make sure he has what he needs, and it will just be the worst, most mortifying thing that's ever happened to him.
Anyway, yeah. Mack's pretty sure his dad had something else in mind, when he was talking about what Mack could pick up from living with Crosby and Malkin.
It's going to be a long year.

Okay, so maybe teasing your husband wasn’t the best idea after all. Though this is pretty much exactly what you wanted, isn’t it?
Seonghwa has your naked body pressed flush against the floor-to-ceiling windows of your shared apartment on the 20th floor, thankfully far enough up that the people below aren’t likely to see you. He is still fully dressed, leaving not an inch of space between you two as he holds you from behind. One of his hands grips your neck with just enough pressure to make you feel fuzzy and the other is rubbing firm circles on your clit, stopping every now and then to give your pussy a few light slaps that have you jumping.
Earlier, per usual, you got home from work an hour or so before Seonghwa and went to change into comfy clothes, but you caught your reflection in the mirror and couldn’t help but feel a little extra sexy today. It has been one of those days when your hair is styled perfectly, your makeup turned out flawless, and you just feel as though you’ve been walking on sunshine since the morning.
Feeling confident, and also a bit mischievous, you couldn’t help but snap some nude pics that you knew would drive Seonghwa crazy. Afterwards, you picked a few to message him, but your finger lingered over the send button as you considered the potential consequences of your actions. You would be blatantly breaking the rules he has set forth for you as his submissive, but that is also what you find the most fun about such power dynamics. While being obedient is enjoyable, teasing Seonghwa by being a brat and then letting him punish you however he pleases is beyond tantalizing.
You mustered up the courage and sent the photos with a cheeky little message just to add fuel to the fire. He never responded, causing you to think he may not have seen it at all, but his intimidating demeanor when he barged through the front door had immediately alerted you otherwise.
It took an impressively short amount of time to get to your current position, goosebumps now rising on your skin from the chill of the glass as your palms lay flat against it to steady yourself. The feeling of Seonghwa’s fingers on your clit has you melting into his touch.
“Were you really so desperate for a punishment, baby?” he purrs directly into your ear, his hard-on poking against your ass. “You wanted me to use you like a fucking toy, hm? Is that why you were such a naughty little brat?”
You moan at his filthy words, not thinking fast enough to reply, and he slaps your cunt harshly to prompt your response. “Yes, sir! I wanted you to use me, sir!”
Your desperate words have him chuckling darkly against your skin. “If you wanted to take my cock like a good girl, all you had to do was ask.”
He removes his hands from you momentarily to quickly undo his pants and pull them down just enough to release his massive erection. He roughly grabs you by the hips and wastes no time in shoving his entire length into your needy hole, making you choke on a gasp and fight the weakness in your knees. Seonghwa’s fingers lace through your hair and abruptly pull your head back so that he can nibble on your earlobe.
“What do you say?” he growls.
“Thank you, sir!”
His grip on your hair stings intensely, but he distracts you from that pain by starting to kiss marks into your exposed neck and brutally thrust into your pussy. Without anything to properly grab onto while pressed against the window, you rely on Seonghwa’s strength to keep you from crumpling to the ground, overwhelmed with pleasure.
“This is what a brat gets. They get fucked like the desperate slut they are for everyone to see,” he pants against your shoulder as he picks up the pace, the obscene sound of skin slapping against skin filling the room. “Be a good girl and let everyone see how well you take my cock.”
While you’re both sure no one can actually see you well enough to figure out what you’re doing, the idea of someone watching you get absolutely wrecked by Seonghwa is far more arousing than you expected. The combination of this thought, his merciless thrusts, and his dirty mouth has you begging and moaning pornographically. Each time your pussy clenches further around him, he fucks you even harder, snapping his hips in perfect time.
“Yes, baby. Let me use this naughty fucking hole.”
You can tell by his pants and grunts that he is getting close to his climax, so you bring one arm down to stimulate your clit. Seonghwa is having none of it, finally releasing your hair and allowing you to press your face against the glass once again. He firmly grabs your wrist and wrenches your arm behind your back so that you can’t touch yourself.
“Sir,” you whimper in the hopes that he’ll understand what you want.
“Shut the fuck up and take what I give you,” he commands dominantly.
With a few more thrusts, he is burying his cock deep inside you and cumming as he bites down on your shoulder. The sensation has you moaning as well, but it isn’t enough to push you over the edge. You expect him to cater to your needs once he is finished, but he simply pulls out and takes a step back to admire his work while redoing his pants.
“Go get cleaned up,” he demands sternly, causing you to look back at him in total confusion. He can’t help but smirk at your neediness. “Is there a problem?”
“I didn’t cum yet,” you reply meagerly to his challenging tone of voice. He sighs and turns you around before roughly groping your ass so that you are pressed against him once again.
“Only good girls get to cum,” he taunts, only more amused by your pathetic pouting. “Maybe if you behave the rest of the night, I’ll be nice and let you cum before bed.”
Your eyes light up and he smiles at your desperation to please him.
Yeah, you think to yourself. Sending those photos was definitely a good idea.

OK so as someone who just genuinely loved Dual destinies and is keeping my theis length DD apologia in the drafts at least for now. I genuinely want to know why people don't like it.
I have seen this take from so many AA fans who I completely agree about everything else with. I need to understand why it sounds like we played completely different games.
I will put some I've seen but feel differently about under the cut
Critisms I find unfair:
-it doesn't tie up the loose ends AA4 left hanging. We don't hold any of the other games up to this standard because they all properly finish up the characters arcs. Aa5 cannot be blamed for the problems we want to overlook in AA4. I do also love AA4 but it does leave a lot of dangling plot threads that the others don't and that would be a fucking nightmare to tie up *staring directly at sibling reveal*
- Clay comes out if no where. He's very well established through the game. He just isn't mentioned in AA4 just like Fran isn't mentioned in AA1 and Dahlia isn't mentioned before AA3.
Critism I acknowledge is a reasonable opinion people can have but strongly disagree with
-Spilting the game between the protagonists stops them having proper arcs. Athena is our weird girl for this game. She is our maya. We get to play as her for 1.5 cases. For the majority of the game she's taking up the weird girl screen time and she's honestly still doing that in the ones you play as her. She's just a weird girl who happens to be a lawyer. In the main game Apollo and Phoenix have a roughly equal amount of screen time by chapter. They cut the bloated filler not the arcs (yes I will argue that 5-2 is needed for Apollos arc. Its there to set up his relationship with Athena that us a catalyst later on)
-Phoenix and Apollo are OOC. No. Phoenix is still a cryptic little bitch when you don't play as him and in AA4 he was so very clearly missing being a lawyer. It makes sense. Apollo very clearly in the last case of AA4 regains a lot of his respect for Phoenix. No, he doesn't do this on screen but again that is AA4s fault not dual destinies. That's how he acts the last time we see him so that's how he's acting now.
-The Phantom comes out of nowhere. Plot wise, maybe. But so do a lot of AA villians. Thematically, he's the perfect fit. DD is a game about trust. Very, very explicitly. A spy is someone who can't trust anyone. The phantom is a man who's shut himself off so much from emotions that he no longer recognises why trust is needed. And also has an ability that directly preys on people by making them think hes a trustworthy figure. He's not an incredible villian but he is thematically cohesive.
-almost a part 2 to the last point. The Fulbright reveal comes out of nowhere. First of all 5-2 has some very very choice sprite framing lol. But beyond that it also is a thematically smart choice. We as players are conditioned in AA games to trust the recurring detective. The villain should be someone that we trust. The guy was likeable but also fundamentally always kinda hollow and did in fact pull a shit ton of strings in 5-4 that we all ignored because we trusted him. The clues are there. You're just not ment to pick up on them because of the formula of these games.
-Edgeworth doesn't need to be there. Again game with a theme of trust. He doesn't necessarily need to be there but his dynamic with Phoenix does. They spent 3 fucking games setting up how important it is that those two trust each other and in a game about trust his absence would be felt.
-I don't see this a lot but I did see it a few times. Blackquill is a bad prosecutor. Honestly this is a taste thing and I love him. He is my little bastard man. Also thematically he embodies the two people you aren't supposed to trust in these games, a convict and a prosecutor but is actually a cool guy.
-I've never seen this but I can guess it's happened. Pearl comes out of nowhere. Again theme of trust. Phoenix has just lost the two people he's been relying on to trust the most and needed to be reminded that there were other people he loved and trusted so letter from Maya and visit from Pearl.
-mood matrix. I like the mini game I think it's fun. My brain likes to sit and logically think about what emotions it would make sense for someone to feel in situations.
Criticism I agree with but really don't bother me
-Trucy is side lined. Yeah. I love her to pieces and will never complain about getting more of her but it doesn't make sense for her to not be there plot wise and they clearly just didn't have room for her. I am happy with my Trucy scraps. I would visit her and present every piece of evidence to her to get as much dialogue as I could.
-Klavier is sidelined. Also yeah. But he did genuinely need to be there for 5-3 thematically for that case. (It is literally a showdown between his school of thought and the one he thought phoenix had) but they couldn't make him procecutor because he'd be too much on their side. It had to be someone who at that point seems at least a little morally dubious. I wish there was more but I will also happily take my Klavier scraps.
-the anime cutscenes. I don't love them but I do have a little switch in my brain marked "watching anime" that I can flip and enjoy them for what they are.
-the switch of the voiced sound effects. Yes they are worse but like, I can live with it.
Stuff I don't like and won't defend
-turnabout reclaimed racism and fatphobia (also blatant animal welfare ignorance). I'm not defending it or overlooking it but it's not the only game in this franchise to be problematic.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think that narrative fits with Hotchniss. Emily I think is mature enough in her decision to date someone whom she has a lot of risks to begin with, and Aaron, I believe is the type of guy who can read the situation quickly and will solve the problem immediately, or he will let the relationship go, especially because Jack is involved too. I think they will consider this matter individually and together before they date each other and risk everything they've built for years
It’s funny because I actually agree with all of your points. I definitely don’t think it’d have been easy if they made hotchniss canon, which is one of the reasons why I’m glad it’s not. I can see so many issues (such as Hotch treating Emily differently) that would potentially have to be solved by Hotch stepping down or one of them switching to a different division—some major change like that that would really hinder the team dynamic. One thought I’ve been having recently is that if one of them is incapacitated for whatever reason—injury, sickness, personal matter, whatever—the other would be too, especially if they would be married. And obviously missing one agent is difficult, but to miss two and one of them is the unit chief would stilt the dynamic of the team and make solving cases harder, I think. I also don’t think Aaron would fully be able to treat Emily as just one of his subordinates after that, no matter how hard they both try.
I think both of them would try to hold back so much, because they know how complicated it would be for both of them, but they just wouldn’t be able to help it. Both of them are very professional and are very attached to their jobs because they worked so hard to get to their current positions, so they’d be very hesitant to take the first step, so much so that something almost doesn’t happen, until maybe a major incident like Doyle that would make them say fuck it, you know?
Also I would like to believe that Aaron would have learned from his mistakes with Haley and he would start putting his family first instead of work. And Emily would get it, of course; she works the same job and knows how he feels about it, but she could also help him get there. I know that for Emily, family (BAU fam, Jack, Aaron) would easily come before the job so she wouldn’t struggle with it as much as he does.
However when it comes to Jack, I think this is one of the points where Aaron wouldn’t hesitate, because (this is a headcanon for me but I consider it canon haha) Jack loves Emily so so much and she loves him so much too, he just got so attached to her and Jess after Haley. I think Jack could be a driving force in getting them together lol.
All that said, I don’t think they’d fully work in canon, unless it would be a season 12+ situation in which one of them is out of the BAU. Idk how to explain it properly but in theoretical canon it would work but in actual canon it would be pretty difficult. I try to make my fics as realistic as possible, but in the end I am aware that they contain a little bit of silliness because there are so many things about an established relationship in the BAU that are not plausible, especially between Hotch and one of the other team members. Realistically there are lots of problems that wouldn’t slide—what if they break up? What if they have kids and they both want to stay in the BAU? What if they can’t maintain the professional boundary?—but in the end I’m just shipping them and writing fics for my silly little mental health. I can say all I want that I want them to be canon, but we all know it’d be too messy for that to happen lol. I will be content just writing them sneaking into each other’s hotel rooms and secretly holding hands under the table <3

thoughts on my interpretation of dazai + his past in regards to fanfiction writing
this mainly applies to dazai during 15 and his time in the pm, but could work for ada dazai albeit with minor adjustments
see on the one hand i have the urge to write dazai as incomprehensible unfathomable indecipherable. he'll be darkness incarnate pretending at being human, and he can be something colder and crueler than anyone else in the world. he can be something dead. he'll be a living corpse, closer to death than living.
on the other hand i want him to just be a mess of a human being who's a little too smart and a little too empty and little too hurt. he can be someone who's tried desperately to find meaning in life, failed at every turn, and buries himself in darkness instead until it permeates his very being. he chokes on kindness, if that one episode of bsd wan where atsushi gives him flowers is any indication. he can see himself as irredeemable, regardless of how other people perceive him. he can genuinely believe that he can't possibly have positive human relationships not founded on mutual goals or manipulation, as i write in his perception of chuuya at the start of 15.
the issue with both of my interpretations (i am fonder of the second one) is that we haven't gotten any actual backstory for dazai. we know what he was like at fourteen/fifteen—but by then, he'd already established his worldview and opinion that there is no meaning in living. mori literally finds him when he tries to commit suicide; the pm may have encouraged his cruelty and violence, but that was all already there. what happened before that instilled in dazai's mind that he wanted to die? despite being given a frankly massive amount of coverage in light novels, the manga, and the anime, we still know virtually nothing about dazai's past. it's so difficult to properly analyze and understand dazai's character and actions because we don't know the reasoning behind these things. all individuals are dependent on their past experiences—it would be necessary to understand dazai's past in order to get a better picture of his character as a whole.
my first interpretation assumes that dazai has, from birth—similarly to yozo in no longer human—always been "empty". it assumes that dazai has never felt like a human being, never been able to understand them, and never been able to relate to them. the second interpretation, however, assumes that while dazai may have felt alienated as a child, there is a reason for said alienation and the ensuing suicide attempt and worldview.
the key part, however, brings into question what exactly the reason was: bsd follows (very, very lightly) the ramifications of a post-war setting. you see it in fukuzawa and yosano's backstories, as well as fukuchi's motive in villainy. did dazai somehow participate in the war? was it instead abuse by an organization or by family that impacted dazai's understanding of living? it's impossible to guess the canon backstory of dazai, but i think it'd be reasonable to assume that there is at the very least a concrete reason or event in dazai's past that results in his mannerisms and behavior that we see in canon. i would be hesitant to go into government experiment/inhuman territory, however, because that ruins a very important parallel: the one between chuuya and dazai.
i've mentioned it before—essentially, dazai is human but feels/acts inhuman, while chuuya isn't human (though certain evidence suggests otherwise, but the point stands) but feels/acts wildly human. they're eachother's antithesis; however, they wholeheartedly and without a doubt believe that the other is irreplaceably human. if dazai does turn out be some aspect of the book (as theories suggest), that doesn't quite make sense in regards to the consistency of this parallel, which is very important overall to soukoku's dynamic. i have so many more thoughts about this but i'll stop here for today.
in short i am trying to write a cohesive backstory for dazai that actually makes sense in my fic (i am failing)

Why do I feel like Oscar is intentionally keeping Lando at a distance because he assumes it would never work out? And Lando kind of wishes Oscar would show an interest but he isn't so Lando pulls back too? Maybe I'm totally crazy but feels like they're doing a double fake out. If not then why not just be friendly the way they are with other guys?
This is my thought on them too. Anon explained really well. I see the same when I look at them. One of them wanna get more friendly but other's shields up and visa versa :I
(the quote comes from this anon and possibly also this one I'd received before)
I've tried giving this a look at other angles since obv none of us knows - and likely won't ever know - for sure, and I think the one way I can see this being the case is mixed signals? bc I feel like it being deliberate on either of their parts is too far a stretch.
long thing below and usual caveat that no I do not write this stuff thinking I actually know what's going on and it's just for fun and I do not take it seriously !!
like on the one hand, for a while before and even after meeting Oscar, Lando kept having to hear about this "rookie" who'd soon be his teammate and how he'd be the more experienced one etc. jokes about him "looking after" the new kid and how is he settling in blah blah. none of which Lando was remotely enthused about, understandably so. unlike team sports, mentoring isn't really something teammates do for each other in racing since they're each other's greatest measure of competition.
and Lando joined F1 so young (and was in the McLaren development program even younger) that while his talent and personality often deceives a lot of people into thinking he's become established and experienced, Lando himself doesn't rate experience much when it isn't bringing race wins or the WDC any closer. and his personality on camera was largely defined by latching onto Carlos and Daniel. he was a little more vulnerable around Carlos but mostly the dynamic of big brother/baby brother was the same for both those relationships. Lando with Max F and the Quadrant folks is pretty different to who he is with those older guys.
so it's easy to see why he didn't feel at all prepared to play the role that everyone kept assuming for him when Oscar came along. and re this babbling I did I genuinely think the difference between how young and small Oscar still was when they first met in winter of 2022 to the infamous "did you grow, what the fuck" moment was transformational for Lando. you look at his eyes gluing themselves to Oscar when Oscar isn't looking and the cheeky way he keeps getting Oscar's attention - and the way Oscar can't hide his surprise and how pleased he is - and I truly think the dynamic started to shift from a sort of stiff friendliness to Lando being genuinely interested in this guy.
Lando said himself that before the season properly started, he and Oscar had been so busy when they were in the same space that they didn't really talk beyond hello and goodbye. which needn't have been the case. I think a fair part of that was Lando's poor bruised heart at having Carlos leave and then Daniel being bought out, just not ready to deal with what he could fairly assume would be some younger guy jumping in wanting to do the bromance bit and glom onto Lando's popularity - all while probably cynically planning to strategize a way to a better seat or maybe one day take Lando's place at McLaren. his knowledge of Oscar at that point was of what a strong up and coming threat he was and that he had the balls/audacity (depending who you ask) to go up against his development team. and that Oscar had gone F1 fandom viral multiple times and was actually an existing personality to F2 and F3 circles. nothing about Oscar seemed vulnerable or unsure and yet people would not stop asking Lando about him as if he were Lando's responsibility.
and as Oscar said, his low frequency personality can often get mistaken (even by Mahk Wibba!) for not caring or being engaged. and if someone wasn't aware of his social media then I could see them thinking that someone as cool and calm as Oscar was almost aloof or disinterested.
with that limited knowledge, Lando would have been right to be wary. hell, Lando was distinctly cool toward Daniel when Daniel showed up pushing the 'landan' agenda as replacing carlando. we all know they ofc became good friends. but we also know that Lando wasn't remotely going to be guilted by Netflix or the fans into feeling responsible or overly concerned for Daniel's struggles. Lando was still very young and focusing on cementing his place in the sport. Daniel's inner and outer turmoil as a 30-something was for him to deal with.
so knowing what we now do of Oscar, this was not an ideal setup for him to meet the driver and new teammate - The Lando Norris - who he'd been a fan of for almost all of his junior career.
and on Oscar's side, it is extremely safe to say that after the Alpine/DR drama he just wanted to get his head down and prove to McLaren he wouldn't be any trouble and was more than willing to put in overtime at MTC and solo with the engineers (I think he essentially said this in the Laura Winter interview). his time spent in the car would speak for itself. but I feel like it's also fair to assume that Oscar not only being a fan of Lando's already but also knowing that he was following in Daniel's wake, Oscar mostly tried to just… not be a problem for Lando. that he put all the power and control over how their relationship developed outside of the track and meetings fully into Lando's hands - if indeed a relationship would develop (and it doesn't always). Oscar was used to looking after himself and he'd probably preferred to not risk upsetting Lando's routine or worse, pissing him off. I would not be at all surprised if that's what Oscar assumed was the safest, simplest approach.
but !! Oscar not launching into a bromance for the sake of his own image and him not trying to push for a relationship immediately for the sake of cementing the partnership would absolutely have felt weird and alien to Lando. and considering what was popularly said about Oscar following the Alpine stuff, him not pushing himself into Lando's space possibly would've come off as distant or cold and probably a bit calculating/cocky. maybe even a bit as if Oscar was so sure of himself, his youth and so laser focused on his own advancement (and boy did Netflix frame it up that way, dramatic Dutch angle and all) that it seemed as if he didn't see the point or the need in benefiting from an alliance with Lando. again - that's just possible conclusions that someone like Lando who hates having his stability threatened might have felt.
this is an even more HUGE leap but we know that Oscar visibly watched Lando closely since the start of the season and was learning from him and about him. and that Andrea had already instilled his new 'team before driver competition' ethos. and that Lando had seen examples of Oscar showing up for him - as a teammate at least - when their relative 'fortunes' before the updates would regularly see Lando in a better position or a better result. and like, if I were to truly jump to a conclusion here I'd say that Lando's gradual thaw in between Australia and Monaco absolutely delighted Oscar - and that he wouldn't have expected any more from Lando at all. Lando being chummy with him during media and a bit of bonding over the state of the car at the time could easily have felt more than enough for Oscar. (and just to throw in here as well that in those much earlier videos together, there were little flashes of Lando's sarcasm bordering on passive agressive but Oscar just laughing delightedly. like I think he fully either didn't mind or didn't notice that Lando was bleeding a bit of genuine annoyance over the car into their dynamic at times. the British theory test is a very good example of that.) whereas from Lando's perspective, maaaaaybe Oscar being so content with so little effort from him - compared to Carlos and Daniel - could have confirmed his suspicion that Oscar wasn't actually interested in being truly friends or bonding? idk that's me really exploring a big blue vague space asgfjlsagf. even more than I already do lol.
now I'm not saying at ALL that these friendships are remotely phony or PR because they're absolutely close in real life! but there's also no doubt in saying that like a lot of the drivers, Carlos and Daniel show up to a new teammate with the usual bromance shtick in their back pocket. and with how successful carlando and dando have proven to be with fans and sponsors and networks, they play into it with just a touch of cynicism even now. again, not saying that's nefarious at all and Lando's no dummy when it comes to personal brands and "shipping" etc. the boy is a youtuber/streamer lol so he /knows/. but yea, the 'oooh aren't we acting gay!' and overly touchy feely stuff especially is entirely for the fans' benefit. and we eat it up aslgfjsagf.
but Oscar has literally never had a bromance in any of the stages of his career and he doesn't publicize any of his non-racing friendships like the boys from boarding school he's still close to. we know he has probably a higher level of awareness of queer existence/culture than most of these guys and he doesn't hide it. I know the bar is in hell but it's significant enough that Oscar's never once used 'gay' as either an insult or as a hilarious joke - and he's had an active presence on social media since 2019 (his dad managed everything before that). when a Prema challenge was for him to kiss someone in the room and Arthur kept pushing, we know from the thumbnail that Oscar gave him a kiss through the covid plexiglass and then rolled around giggling. but he didn't treat kissing a guy in particular as 'hilarious' and he's never 'played gay' with any other guys. he also doesn't talk about Lily as if she's an accessory or "his". he brings her up in the context of things they did together or things she told him etc. the boy just doesn't know any degree of toxic masculinity apparently!!
where this gets confusing for Lando is that men are always dying to touch or cuddle or fawn over him - whether it's as a cute little brother like Carlos does (sorry fellow carlandos but that's the non-rpf truth) as a stereotypical bromance like Daniel does (and oh how I love that his ass caught feelings when he didn't mean to) or some potent mixture of fondness and attraction, which constitutes basically every other man who's met Lando.
and god knows I've written time and again how poor Lando does not know what to do with Oscar when Oscar looks with such intensity and he says so many things that show Lando respect and care and kindness. but he simply will not touch him ?? and he won't even half-fake half-serious flirt with him !! and he won't even take the bait when a bromance moment is pushed on them ! and when they're pressed close like in Twister, Oscar looks pink and flustered and refuses to put his leg between Lando's even though Daniel and Carlos have practically wrestled Lando with limbs akimbo multiple times. Oscar initiating the side hug at Silverstone was such an event that even Lando looked staggered by it. that's so strange !! Oscar is not remotely homophobic and he's not at all stand-offish physically and he's fine with people touching and hugging him. sure he doesn't do excessive PDA even with Lily but he still does some. he clearly is fond of Lando and doesn't mind when Lando decides to touch him. but we haven't even seen them hug ! and Oscar will give Lando such sincere praise and respect but he won't use hyperbole or make jokes like Carlos saying he was jealous of Lando liking Daniel or Daniel cracking sexual jokes about him and Lando.
and I fully feel like that breaks Lando's brain a little and has to make him falter at times bc everyone touches Lando and crosses easily over into some form of casual intimacy with him. Lando hides absolutely nothing and is extremely easy going. people feel very comfortable engaging with him, knowing that he'll play along so long as they're being kind or friendly.
and I think that's where the decision Lando made to let his brattier moods out around Oscar comes from. it's a very weird sort of compliment to Oscar that Lando isn't worried about pissing him off or being rejected - and I think it came from Lando being a little frustrated with Oscar for not falling in line with how everyone else is with him and not being able to get a secure read on how Oscar feels about him. as well as like I said earlier how Lando would be a little passive aggressive in his humor but Oscar never took offense. so Lando lets all his petulance and impatience come out around Oscar in a way I don't really know that he does much with anyone else? I think there's been a few times he's gotten like that around Max but Max has a good strong hand with him. but even when Lando goes Full Brat like the beloved Tic Tac Toe filming day Oscar is still endlessly charmed by Lando and you can see Lando soften and blush bc he knows he’s really letting it all out and Oscar is still being so good with him. Carlos would’ve picked him up and put him in a bin and Daniel would’ve out bratted him ajsbjsbsjd.
we know that Silverstone was a huge stepping stone for Lando and Oscar's relationship but I wish I could pinpoint before then when it was that Oscar realized just how much he couldn't apply his former racing friendships as a model for interacting with Lando. that Lando is anything but 'typical blokey guy' and even more than that, he isn't remotely typical or like anyone else in any way. definitely it was after Australia and by Austria the shift had already happened and we could see Lando watching Oscar as much as Oscar watched Lando. the trust and beginnings of feeling comfortable had already begun to be earned before Silverstone for sure.
and by the time he did this BTG interview, the genuinely fond way he talked about Oscar and mentioned the ways they're similar is such a major shift from simply saying that Oscar is calm and super quiet and fast as a driver. then we hit Singapore (where Lando sought Oscar out to spray champagne on him) the double podiums and Oscar's extension.
and then the Austin weekend and the filming they did and Lando posting that beautiful photo of Oscar smiling back at him all seems to have brought them to a place where yea, if we're being honest the lingering looks and the sense of sweetness to their shared humor is the dynamic we've had ever since.
and at this point I think what people are mistaking for a fakeout or misunderstanding is just that their lives outside of racing are so vastly different. Lando is in perpetual motion and constantly in demand and if you don't do a common activity with him like golf or padel then good luck catching him. whereas Oscar has been snared by a growth spurt that seems like it's still going on and he's either sleeping, sleeping, sleeping some more, spending time with Lily, sleeping, or spending time with his friends if possible. so there just isn't really an overlap with how their lives are right now.
to go out on another pretty out there limb, the one thing I might say is that Oscar still defaults to letting Lando call the shots about how much he wants to spend time together outside of being teammates. his own life is so uncomplicated that from his perspective it would feel a little daunting to try and insert himself in Lando's ever-changing schedule and multiple friend groups - esp since he already has so much time with Lando anyway due to the racing calendar. we know that it happens at times and that it's never broadcasted, only mentioned after the fact. it tends to be flying together or choosing to have lunch or after race meals together. the one time that rly gets to me is after Vegas when Lando could barely muster the energy to hit the tables with Max, Ria and Aarava. we find out later he spent at least part of that night with Oscar and someone mentioned that Oscar will have wanted to watch the cricket so like? it's kind of touching as well as saying a lot that the best time for their social lives to overlap is when it can be calm and quiet and Lando specifically does not want to be busy or loud. Lando dopey with painkillers and moody about crashing out of the race, possibly holed up in a hotel room with Oscar and the cricket playing on TV just sounds very sweet and likely. but other than those moments, their social lives just don't intersect easily. yet!!
but yea, I think ?? that by now they've kind of reached a comfortable place of knowing - at least for now - what their relationship is. it's why I honestly assumed Lando was finally doing the visit to Daniel's ranch and wouldn't be meeting up with Oscar in Australia. they're simply not to the point of coordinating off season schedules. even less of a surprise since he ended up spending less than 24 hours in Perth before he and Martin moved on!
ofc we as fans cannot get enough content of them together and just want more. but a lot of that is McLaren social media deciding to drop off just as McLaren started climbing up the grid ??? if they can get their shit together for 2024 then we'll see as much Lando and Oscar as we always did Lando with Carlos and Daniel.

Stan Edgar's and Homelander's relationship: my two cents
Tl;dr: Stan Edgar's show-canon relationship with Homelander presumes (and loosely establishes) the relationship between comics Homelander and James Stillwell, including James' Stillwell's extreme confidence vis-à-vis Homelander, which explains a lot of Stan's more insane choices provoking Homelander, but I remain naively hopeful that the show also means to show us in the end that he has miscalculated.
Following up on this post trying to figure out what the hell Stan Edgar's end game is with Homelander, I just want to add a small point to what I think is an excellent discussion because I think you can't really answer the question of Stan's intentions via-à-vis Homelander without establishing what the show-canon relationship between the two is supposed to be (even if the execution is done badly). Personally, I think show canon tries to do one of two things: 1. take the canon relationship in the comics and twist it by having "James Stillwell"/Stan Edgar miscalculate or 2. take the canon relationship in the comics and keep "James Stillwell"/Stan Edgar as the mastermind. My guess (and hope) is that they are going for number 1, but who knows, maybe there's some secret third option.
Either way, what is clear is that the show is trying to replicate, in some form, the dynamic that exists between Homelander and James Stillwell in the comics. That's apparent when Stan Edgar tells Starlight that Homelander will stay in line as long as he is in charge, which is supposed to establish that Stan Edgar is 100% confident in his ability to manage Homelander no matter what.
(It is also hinted at from Homelander's perspective when they replicate the comics plot point that Homelander is confused by/scared of his blood pressure/heart rate/whatever other readings he gets, and when he wonders if Stan Edgar is the headpopper because he thinks he must be a very powerful supe due to his lack of fear.)
Tumblr media
Seriously, I think the sentence above is central to understanding the relationship. BUT, interestingly, when he says "and we both know why", the viewer doesn't know why, and this is where the show could have really done a better job explaining it.
This is a problem with many of the points taken directly from the comics because they are casually imposed on the show without properly "translating" them to the new medium and the new storyline to actually make them significant to the show (instead of just mentioning them on the side). Another good example of this is Maeve's alcoholism. We see her drinking in S1E1 during a work meeting, then we don't see her drinking in meetings again though she still has occasional drinks, and in S3, she tells Butcher she's been sober for X months. But that's really all we see of it -- it never becomes a major point in her character arch and gets lost easily. So from a storytelling perspective, that's dissatisfying. Either weave the point properly into the character's arch, or leave it out entirely.
So anyway, back to the main point, which is that the show presumes the relationship from the comics and makes it visible here and there. I think they do a slightly better job with Homelander and his relationship with Stan "James Stillwell" Edgar than with Maeve's relationship with alcohol, but the point is still not translated very well. However, what we can take away from it is that for whatever Stan Edgar does, he always proceeds from the assumption that he has Homelander 100% under control, same as when James Stillwell tells an enraged Homelander, who has come to kill him, to do it already because he is bored out of his mind by his rant.
That is the level of confidence that should be assumed behind every single of Stan's actions that affect Homelander. My personal take is he takes some joy in humiliating Homelander and getting away with it, especially since this person he considers largely irrelevant to the company's bottom line has just given him a ton of extra work.
I did also consider the possibility that Stan is doing this strategically to show who the real boss is and bring Homelander back under his thumb, and I guess that's possible given that he has just had to deal with two Homelander contingencies in a row -- the supe terrorists and HL discovering Ryan. That would seem like a good time to reassess his prior assumptions about his control over HL. But I do think his confidence in his ability to manage HL is supposed to be taken as real and not just an act in S3, so my personal headcanon is that Stan is being petty. Homelander annoys him, so why only punish him once if he can do it -- cost free in his mind -- over and over again?
Anyway, my hope is that the show is going with having Stan Edgar miscalculating instead of masterminding. I don't want a "Stan as puppet master who saw every single one of Homelander's moves coming" storyline, but based on the way the scene between Homelander and Stan Edgar on 99 was done, miscalculation also seems more likely, because Stan does slam the glass down on the table as he leaves the room, which I'm guessing is meant to indicate that despite his blood pressure and calm demeanor, his blasé attitude was an act and he is waking up to the fact that, oops, he did miscalculate.
That doesn't answer all the questions, such as why choose Starlight over Maeve, but I mean, the answer to that one is pretty evident from a storytelling perspective: if you have a central heroine and a character who will leave the show at the end of the Season 3, which of of these two characters are you going to put at the center of a major conflict? Obviously the one who is your main heroine. Bringing in a new person mid-season just for this would be... a very questionable choice in any writer's room.
Anyway, I would also argue that in this case, it doesn't really do much harm to Stan's character building and story arch. It's totally in line with his own and Vought's overall ethics that they would discard a woman who, by industry standards, is old, and go for a fresh face, their rising star, a person Stan presumes to still be impressionable and malleable -- he knows how to work with people like that. Sure, she may not be as young as Vicky was when he got to her, but it's reasonable he would assume he could shape her more easily than Maeve, so I really don't see any plothole here.
Starlight's relationship with The Boys is irrelevant because Stan canonically does not see The Boys as a threat. He may not love Butcher, but he's good enough to form a temporary alliance with, and Stan certainly does not view him as a existential threat to himself or to Vought. That may be another miscalculation, but for the time being, given Butcher's hyperfocus on Homelander and his inability to see the big picture about Vought, it seems fair enough. Stan also doesn't believe that he's giving Starlight a whole lot of power with the new position. The co-captains are performing monkeys in his mind (just like Homelander himself has always been), so the risk, to him, is not much higher than having her join The Seven in the first place.
It certainly doesn't answer the question of why Stan put Stormfront in The Seven given what must be a very complex relationship between the two. Clearly, she's influential at the company, clearly, they work together (she does the high risk stuff for him so that he can maintain plausible deniability and distance himself from the ugliest parts of Vought's medical experiments), clearly, they do not like each other (unless there's something we don't know). But perhaps that's their deal: Stormfront does the ugly stuff for Stan, Stan gets her closer to her beloved Nazi-ideal-conforming potential son-in-spirit. Obviously, their exact relationship is never explained directly. It's either a plothole or a plotline that was left open because it will be closed later, or a plotline that was left open and will remain open because the way shows are written means not all loose ends are tied up in the end. Personally, I don't think we'll see this one resolved.
Anyway, best case scenario, the show will deliver as a twist on "James Stillwell" as someone who miscalculated on multiple fronts (mainly Homelander, possibly Butcher, but that's probably just my pipe dream lol) thanks to his overconfidence, and gets destroyed along with Vought as a consequence. Worst case scenario, this will all fizzle out and not be resolved properly as the show descends deeper into the contemporary American politics non-plotline.

You cannot physically stop people from shipping in the LU fandom. As long as it's properly tagged so it can be avoided it's fine
You’re right, I can’t. And I don’t want to. I enjoy my Zelink, Malink, and Midlink (and many more) and I love to see our boys explore romantic relationships with their princesses, sidekicks, and npcs. And I always tag everything so people can avoid ships if they’re not comfortable with them.
But I’m guessing that’s not what you’re talking about.
You want to make a fuss about how I’ve made my thoughts clear about Linkshipping, in and out of LU.
So here’s the deal, once and for all: Non-LU Linkshipping is not bad. In fact, I support it! I’ve been reading @ageless-soul-au and I LOVE the dynamic between their main ship. The creator of @linked-maze is also open to Linkshipping, and has drawn ship art of their characters.
Too often, people forget that LU is one comic drawn by one person. It’s not the only Links-meet AU and it doesn’t control the rules for every other fandom. Nothing is stopping you from creating content for a different Links-meet AU (that allows Linkshipping), or making your own. You can ship as many Links as you want, and nobody can tell you you’re not allowed to.
The difference with LU is that the one person, who draws one comic, that happened to create one fandom, requested that you respect her wishes to not use her characters for Linkshipping. That’s right: Jojo is not Nintendo. She doesn’t own all Links, but you don’t own her Links. There’s an infinite amount of Links out there for you to ship together, from established AUs to your own. What’s so special about LU that you NEED to be inconsiderate and ship her Links when you can ship somebody else’s (including your own)?
Everybody in the LU fandom is aware of the single rule that Jojo has asked us to follow with her characters. And we like it that way! Shipping discourse is almost nonexistent and it’s a safe place for people on the aroace spectrum who just want their found family content.
But if you come to the LU fandom with the sole purpose of disrespecting everyone just to give yourself a sense of power over somebody else’s creation, I don’t know what to tell you. I hope you reconsider your choice to slap the LU label on your Linkshipping content. I hope you realize how rude it is to everyone when you actively try to mess up the fandom experience for hundreds of people when you could simply avoid LU altogether and let everyone enjoy the content they came here for.
At this point, the only people starting discourse are the wannabe LU-Linkshippers themselves. The majority of the fandom is comfortable with Linkshipping AUs separate from LU, and there’s no need for us to harass non-LU Linkshippers for doing what they want while respecting Jojo and the LU fandom. You’re making a mountain out of a molehill, and for some reason you’re dead set on making it our problem too.
This isn’t what I want to be known for. I just want to be a fic writer who loves to angst Legend. I’m not going to involve myself in discourse and I’m telling you right now that if you try to bring it to my ask box, it’s over before it started. Go check out some other AUs and turn off anon if you absolutely have to continue this discussion in a civil manner.
Thank you for understanding.

I keep saying Sanuso has the same energy as Amyrory from Doctor Who. I thought at first that maybe I was reaching a bit because it was just the vibes that made me say it. But!! Recently I watched this episode, "Day of the Moon" which made me realize that they do have the same dynamic and something like that could easily happen to them.
Okay, so very very summarized for the people who don't watch this show: Sanji (Amy) is in a very very dark place and he's fucking scared he might die (just add his fear of the dark that I always mention) and he's all alone and waiting for the crew to come save him. They have this communication device but they can only hear Sanji and he can't hear them. So he's basically on his own and waiting to be saved without knowing anything about the outside.
And there's this conversation between Usopp (Rory) and Luffy (The Doctor):
SANJI [OC]: : I love you. I know you think it's him. I know you think it ought to be him, but it's not. It's you. And when I see you again, I'm going to tell you properly, just to see your stupid face. My life was so boring before you just dropped out of the sky. So just get your stupid face where I can see it, okay? Okay? (Luffy sits beside Usopp.) USOPP: ..... LUFFY: He'll be safe for now. USOPP: Can't you save him? LUFFY: I can track that signal back. Take us right to him. USOPP: Then why haven't you? LUFFY: Because then what? I find him and then what do I do? [...] LUFFY: Personal question. USOPP: Seriously, you? LUFFY: Do you ever remember it? Waiting for Sanji? Whole Cake. USOPP: No. LUFFY: You're lying. USOPP: Of course I'm lying. LUFFY: Of course you are. Not the sort of thing anyone forgets. USOPP: But I don't remember it all the time. It's like this door in my head. I can keep it shut. SANJI [OC]: Please, please, just come and get me. Come and get me.
So I think, hear me out, that Sanji has been kidnapped. Or something. It doesn't really matter. The point is Usopp wants to go look for him and Luffy has one of his more serious/captain moments in which he has to make the hard decision of waiting until they can rescue Sanji. But the thing is-- Usopp thinks all the things Sanji said were about Luffy, and not him. And I think we don't talk enough about the angst this could bring to Sanuso. Even with established Sanuso, Luffy means the world to Sanji, and I think there could be this layer of jealousy because Usopp thinks Sanji would prefer to be with somebody like Luffy. Which is dumb because Sanji loves him to death, but sometimes the love, admiration, and devotion Sanji has for Luffy make Usopp worry.
Then they find Sanji, great. And this happens:
USOPP: I can't get him out! SANJI: Go. Go. USOPP: We are not leaving without you. SANJI: Look, will you just get your stupid face out of here?! (Usopp stops and looks at Sanji.)
[...]
SANJI: What's the matter with you? USOPP: You called me stupid. SANJI: I always call you stupid. USOPP: No, but my face. (Sanji reaches out and opens Usopp's hand to reveal his recorder.) USOPP: I wasn't sure who you were talking about. You know, me or... SANJI: Him? (Luffy) USOPP: Well, you did say dropped out of the sky. SANJI: It's a figure of speech, moron. (Sanji pulls Usopp into a kiss.) USOPP: Thanks. SANJI: You're welcome.
And I just think it fits them? The whole thing about Usopp wanting to desperately find Sanji and thinking Sanji is talking about Luffy and not him? Sanji quite obviously talking about him because that is his stupid face? In an established Sanuso situation this could definitely happen, imo.

Need help with Convex, please!
Hi, Hermitcraft enjoyer who jumped on in Season 7 here. I recently finished updating my hermit tier list (gives my fingers something to do while watching episodes) and found that Scar and Cub are my fourth and third place favourites respectively. (Zedaph and Gem btw). Obvi this got me thinking about how there is, theoretically, an entire season and a half's worth of dynamic between them that I've never seen! This is exciting, except, I don't really have time to watch through the whole of their seasons 5 and 6 to get to the good duo stuff. (Both of their season 6 lineups are well over 100 episodes... Cub has over 200!! Yikes.)
So I'm consulting you, an expert, to help me out. Is there a list of particular episodes that show off their dynamic especially well? Or, if not that, then is there a good jumping on point from one or both perspectives to get right to the good stuff? I suspect the seasons don't just start with them teamed up after all. A number past which they're already an established group would be nice to know.
hello! welcome to a massive rabbithole :D
there are two playlists of the episodes with their interactions (s4 & s5 and s6) if that's something you would be interested in, though i can't necessarily recommend those for properly wanting to learn about them as you would miss quite a lot of stuff and things will most likely feel confusing :p if i remember correctly the vex stuff starts in scar's episode 24 and cub's episode 40 in s5 so i guess that could maybe be a bit of a jumping on point? (though there are a few pranks before that, you can find a links to the prank episodes here)
unfortunately the thing with convex stuff is that it's rather... complicated. it's everywhere, once you start looking. little bits and casual mentions all over the place. my best tip would probably be trying to watch through the seasons while doing something else, having the episodes play in the background so you can tune in when something sounds important, or skimming through things like long parts focused purely on building to get to the more relevant stuff. scar's seasons have less of the vex stuff but they're also a lot shorter and easier to get through and with that knowledge you can pretty easily watch cub's episodes from here and there and have some sort of an idea of what is going on :D it's a lot but man is it also a lot of fun
i'm sorry this isn't a very good answer for what you were asking for but i hope you can still get something out of this!

My issue with “Helluva Boss”
Yes the humor relies a lot on vulgarity, sex, drugs, and a lot of cussing. Not my cup of tea but it’s not my issue with the series. I genuinely use to love this show, but recent episodes and a rewatch have me very disillusioned with the series. I’m gonna talk about why here.
At first glance, especially in season 1, it’s pretty good. A lot of decent set ups and the chance at world building. The basic premise is interesting and the characters are fun. It genuinely has a good foundation and the potential to be GOOD. It’s why I’m so upset with it now.
To start off, the writing is weak. Nothing that is set up is ever paid off. The main premise we were set up, a small business started by a lower class character of sneaking off to earth from hell to commit assassination jobs. It’s a fun premise! Again a LOT of potential. It’s implied heavily in the show that imps are lower class, usually servants or country hick folk. And higher class and stronger demons look down on them. It’s said by another imp in the show it’s impress and rare for an imp to have his own business!!!
But it teeters off and looses focus of this by heavily focusing on shipping. (Not saying you can’t mix comedy, romance, and drama in one series, but the show doesn’t do this well) It falls off in a way the show star vs the forces of evil did when the show started focusing less on the more interesting concepts (the racism and classism between mewmins and monsters) and started heavily focus on shipping, switch Tom, Star, Kelly and Marco and others) HB does exactly this. Throwing away other concepts and stories they made the show more interesting just to focus on shipping Stolas and Blitzo.
Another issue I have is how the main couple is portrayed. A ship including a very privileged rich upper class prince character and a lower class character whose race is implied in the show to be seen as less than. Classism and racism is not a good dynamic to start with, but with good writing and some sensitivity can be done right.
But again, it isn’t written well. To make the ship look better it’s almost essentially get written between season 1 and 2 and shifts almost all the blame for the problems in the relationship onto the LOWER CLASS CHARACTER WHO FACES RACISM AND FETISHIZATION FROM HIS RICH PRINCE ROMANCE INTEREST.
This mixed with the very questionable sexual coercion and potential sa issues that are involved in their relationship- it’s very uncomfortable. Not saying a ship isn’t allowed to be toxic. I find toxic characters fascinating tbh, but there is a art to writing them-
As in you have to acknowledge your characters are toxic and have your audience see the characters acknowledge this and try to change and do the work to be better. If both Stolas and Blitzo were written to acknowledge both have sone faults in the relationship and both are hurting each other in different ways and tried to work on themselves it could still be good! HB does not do this. It sets up a couple that on both sides is very toxic but only treats one side as so. The one who in reality based on past writing the show no longer acknowledges, is the bigger victim in the relationship!!!
They completely recontextualize the characters by essentially retconning how they got together, starting season two they take what’s potentially a good pairing of toxic characters who can grow and heal together to just trying to victimize one and make the other the “bad” one. Yea both are toxic but to now make Blitzo the main problem in the relationship and Stolas as the victim of just loving someone who doesn’t treat him write- it’s not good writing. It’s honestly gross.
Stop setting up issues like classism, racism, fetishization, in your show, in your ship, if you don’t actually want to acknowledge it. Stop writing serious real life issues into your stories if you can’t properly handle them. You can’t just pretend now those issues aren’t there in season 2 after establishing these issues in season 1. You can’t retcon this shit between seasons. Have the balls to acknowledge how you write your characters to be shitty people and make them work to be better. Not just pretend they are better without any work being put in!!!
And I could go on how all the gay characters seem grossly fetishized and fit into basic stereotypical top/bottom roles. Soft uwu bottom who goes no wrong and strong and big bad top. Yes some gay men have preferences but being so focused on top and bottom dynamics is weird.
The writing of the female characters is gross as well (the creator will say HB is the boy show and HH will be the girl show but it’s an excuse for cheap writing) all the girl characters are props and get no character or growth of their own. They all exist to prop up the boys. To help further along their development and stories while getting none of their own. The female antagonist in the stories are essentially one dimensional with her personality of “bitch.” And only exist again to be against the boys. The girls in the show are constantly demeaned and talked down to by male characters and treated like “stupid bitches” and this is all okay and funny. But when a female character says something bad about the male characters they are wrong and antagonist and will get a rock dropped on them for laughs at the end of the episode, because the show itself treats the males with depth and forgiveness (because trauma) but the girls are lazy evil caricatures who must get beat down in the end because clearly they are wrong and bad, even though it’s funny when male characters do the exact same shit. Some serious misogyny here.
Also another writing issue is.. it feels a lot like trauma porn. Every main (male) character has to have some deep trauma all somehow about a dead/missing mom and abusive dad (all three main make leads have a variation of this same trauma)
Not every character needs a traumatic back story. Not every trauma has to be death and murder and abusive dads. If you have to have your characters be traumatized to make them interesting or explain away their shitty behavior this is just bad and lazy writing.
It doesn’t feel like she’s trying to tell a story here at this point. Season two ends up feeling like fetish and trauma porn and half baked single dimensional characters that exist solely to sexualize and traumatize.
I hate to be this angry and critical of an indie show but even without all the drama around Viv and the treatment her workers the show itself has simply become a toxic poorly written mess of tropes and stereotypes that are simply meant to sell a product not tell a real story.
I wanted to like this show, and I genuinely use to. But after this new season and a rewatch I simply can’t enjoy it anymore. Anything this series had going for it is now trashed. It’s a shame to see.
Again I use to genuinely love this show. My anger with it comes from seeing it fall so far from the potential it had. But maybe that’s on me.

Sorry if this is a bad question or more likely just hopeless. I’ve been trying to find a good Connor Hawke comic to read (first found out about him in Damian’s Robin solo and he and Rose were the only two things I liked besides the Robin chase but I’m a bat brat) and I’ve only read the Silver Monkey story and as I’m not a fan of Oliver Green at all (my exposure to him has in no way been positive) and I HATE Dixon and I know he’s the main writer for Connor, but I had to drop the Tim solo because of his obvious, I guess bigotry would be the right word to use here, but he is one of the three writers I refuse to let myself read anymore to try and keep my blood pressure low. Are there any Connor stories or series that exist outside of those parameters to read because I’m having 0 luck. I’m also not sure if you’re a fan of Mia or Emilio or have any go-to stories for them, but I know nothing about them and I’d like to change that if at all possible.
i understand, i do i do. while i think dixon is capable of good character writing, and he did manage to do it in connor's run, i also understand his very very obvious politics shine through all the time and it gets tiresome (at one point in his ga run he manages to write OLIVER QUEEN "both sides"ing literal nazis that he and hal fought in GL/GA). here's the best i can do for recs outside of dixon (though few and far between)
Before i start, i do wanna clarify that his character in robin is. well. pretty different from his actual pre-established character. I'm not saying you won't like him, and im genuinely begging you to give him a shot, but if youre looking for the snarky brawler type, you might be a lil thrown by the polite buddhist monk you're gonna get.
you are in luck, as his first few appearances were by kelley puckett, so if you havent already read GA vol. 2 #0, do that first! #91 and #92 are also by puckett until dixon takes over for #93, so read those if you dont mind just stopping in the middle of an arc, otherwise avoid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
now this next rec IS 1/3 written by dixon but if you can get through it, the crossover connor has with wally and kyle is enjoyable, thats Green Lantern Vol. 3 #96, GA Vol. 2 #130, and The Flash Vol. 2 #135
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Connor's JLA run! JLA Vol. 1 #8-#15, #8 and #9 are specifically about connor saving and joining the league, the rest of the issues just feature him in a team setting, as, well, its the league.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
if you want to read mia as well, read Green Arrow: Quiver (GA Vol. 3 #1-#10), Connor plays an important role but its almost entirely in the very last issue, and it's more about Ollie's role dynamic with him than anything else, so just read that if it tickles your fancy.
Tumblr media
I wish i could recommend more of GA Vol. 3 for connor, unfortunately he's pretty fucking sidelined, and for every good moment theres 2 bad ones. (immediately after quiver he is shot and put in a coma for an arc, somehow this isnt the last time this happens.) Though i do recommend #11, and i think #21 is a good issue to read for ollie and him, but it also includes a pretty huge retcon to Connor and Ollie's past
Other than those, he has One-shots in Green Arrow 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular: "One", DC Pride 2022: "Think Of Me", and DC Festival of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebration: "Hawke & Kong"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
to answer your second question, my URL aint lesbianspeedy for nothin! Mia is what i breathe and bleed, my recs for her are here!
as for Emi, your best bets are Green Arrow Vol. 5 #18-#20, #22, #28-#34 for her origin (though read N52 green arrow at your own risk, even i havent properly read these), Green Arrow Vol. 6 #1-#7 (this may feel like a completely new character, i'm sorry, dc has a angsty characterisation problem, if you enjoy either of these characterisations, i'd recommend you keep reading said runs past my specific recs for more issues with her!) and Stargirl Spring Break Special + Stargirl: The Lost Children #1-#6

With everything going on in the world with knowing what your lovers, Light Yagami. You know he'd never do anything you wouldn't want to do. You've gave your consent every time he needed it.
though if we are being honest, it's always been out of fear, of course you loved him and felt safe.
It seemed as though he was subconsciously telling you what to do.
As you've grown with him you've learned that you crave the praise he gives you after you say "yes"
"You're always such a good girl for me, always letting me do whatever I want to your pretty body."
he'd say.
------
It confused you when he said he wanted you to fuck Laiwiet.
Was he joking?
Was he making some un-comical insult to his enemy.
They did work together so it makes sense for them to have some sort of 'relationship' towards eachother.
But for Light to ask you to have sex with someone who is trying to destroy everything your Boyfriend has worked for seems... off.
--------
You've never thought the day would come you'd be sandwiched between L lawliet and Light Yagami.
Yet here you are.
The praise you've gotten just by sitting there and letting L eat you out is almost too much for you to handle.
"look at how well your taking it, such a good girl for us"
God, The things these mf say to you is ungodly.
"C'mon can't you take just a little more sweetheart, you've done so well already you can go just a little bit longer."

Final thoughts; Ko cant properly write threesomes or any smut for that matter but people still love it<3333

Sorry to hide behind anon for this because i feel kinda silly asking. Y'know where your new mean Rain fic ends? Does one of the other ghouls come for him, or the scene ends after the fic ends and Rain / Dew care for him 'off screen'? The fic was really good and really well written, but a tag or warning for 'no aftercare' would have been really helpful for me if the scene does end where the fic does.
No, I’m sorry! I didn’t think to tag it that way. And that’s my fault.
And actually, I was going to add a little follow up tomorrow. Because I normally don’t write that way. I should be sleeping but instead I was in bed thinking about what I wanted to write. I wrote this sitting in the dark and it is probably riddled with typos but I feel better putting it out there now. Below the cut, some sorry ghouls.
Although Dew had fallen asleep rather quickly. He woke up with a start. A strange feeling settled in his gut. Rain heard him shoot up in the bunk, leaning against the wall with a grunt.
“What’s wrong?” Rain already knew what was wrong. Although part of him knew that the new ghoul enjoyed the scene. He hadn’t ended it properly. He let his unexpected jealousy consume his thoughts, dictate his actions. And that was his fault alone.
Dew slipped out of the bunk wordlessly, but Rain knew where he was headed. To the dim light shining from the back of the bus. Rain swallowed his pride like a mouthful of gravel and followed.
Mountain and Swiss must’ve left right after they did. Because looking at the blue light flashing on the wall, they’d actually only fallen asleep for maybe 20 minutes or so.
Phantom sat, wearing the same clothes he’d kicked to the floor earlier, one of the questionable throw blankets on the sofa wrapped around his shoulders.
Dew shuffled to the kitchen, making some lemon ginger tea, no caffeine, a personal favorite of his that he hoped the new ghoul would like. When he returned with the steaming mug, Rain was already crouched on the floor in front of him. A distinct change in the dynamic earlier.
He held out both hands, palms up, like some kind of white flag. Phantom eyed him wearily before sliding his hands on top.
“I’m sorry. I should’ve asked more questions. I should’ve established boundaries. Yours in particular. I saw the line and I crossed it. But it won’t happen again. You don’t have to forgive me. But just know it wasn’t Dew’s fault. I take responsibility for all of it.”
Dew stood at his back, shocked by such an open omission of guilt without much provocation. Although Dew wasn’t blameless. Lost in a haze of lust, he too saw that blurry line and didn’t do anything to stop Rain from crossing it either.
He closed the space between them, offering the mug before sinking to the floor beside Rain. “It isn’t all his fault. It’s mine too. I’m sorry I didn’t intervene. I’m sorry if we hurt you.”
Phantom sat there, processing what they were saying to him. He hadn’t really considered the wider implications of their actions either. He assumed it was some kind of hazing, some kind of game that maybe he wasn’t ready to play. That he also agreed to participate without knowing all the rules.
Dew took one of Phantom’s hands into his own. Trying his best to channel some kind of comfort through the minimal contact.
When Phantom finally spoke they were practically hovering in an anticipation of what he’d say. “I forgive you.”
Rain shook his head. “No, it can’t be that easy. How can we make it up to you?”
“It is that easy. I know why it went too far. You pushed, I let you. Because I liked it. To a point. And I was too lost in getting off to even realize where the point was that I didn’t like it.”
Not quite the answer they expected. Rain spoke first, “It’s not your fault. It’s mine.” Dew echoed his words.
“Well, we can all point fingers at ourselves, I guess.”
“Can you tell me, where it went from good to bad?”
Phantom sunk further into the worn cushions, still allowing his hands to be held prisoner even though he wanted to use them to cover his face.
“When I realized at the end that you actually meant what you said. I already know I’m not him. But I didn’t think you actually wanted me gone. Didn’t even want to remember my name. Throw me off a moving bus.”
“Oh, no. No.” Rain pressed his forehead into Phantom’s hand. “It has nothing to do with Aether. It has everything to do with the schism in my brain that exists between sex and love.”
Dew looked through his hair at Rain’s face. He knew what he meant. “Your hearts big enough to love more than just me.”
Rain knew that. He saw it all around him, in his pack. But coming to this point in time, what it took to get where they were, for Dew to be the one giving him advice about love, that he was his mate, his partner. His. Finally his. He’d closed off his mind to the possibility.
“You don’t have to love me. I just don’t want you to hate me.”
“I don’t.” Rain murmured against the back of his hand. Rain felt a little bit like he was sinking. That he’s fucked everything up royally. And not just between the 3 of them. Because what affected one or two affected them all.
Phantom leaned forward, resting his forehead against the top of Rain’s head. “Maybe I don’t truly understand. From experience. But I get it. I forgive you.”
Rain nodded. Not quite ready to feel absolved. Starting over was far too much to ask even if that’s what he wanted the most.
Rain took his wrists, flipping them over to expose his inner forearms.
“See, already healing.” It was true, there were only faint white marks in his skin now, thanks to his particular breed of magic.
“So, can we just - be friends?” Phantom meant act civilly to one another.
Rain and Dew nodded vigorously. They meant real, true friendship. Which took time. But they had time.
“Well, I guess thanks for not letting me cry myself to sleep on the sofa.” It was a joke but it landed the wrong way, tears welling up in two pairs of eyes.
“No, I was joking. I mean maybe I wasn’t. Self depreciation might be a problem for me. That’s why I liked it when you treated me like a stupid dog.”
“You’re more like a puppy.” Dew replied. “Especially on stage. Good thing your tails’ hidden away or you would knock over all the lights, fling the mic stand into the crowd.
A rather endearing shade of violet crept across Phantom’s face. “Can’t help it. It’s - exciting. Maybe not for you anymore.”
“Oh no, it is. Every time.”
Phantom yawned, displaying his double row of sharp canines. Dew had never seen that before. But clearly they were all exhausted so he’d ask another time.
Phantom drained the last of the tea, smacking his lips together. So he must’ve liked it, Dew thought.
Rain finally felt like he could bring himself to stand again, pulling Dew up with him. Phantom next.
“Well, goodnight I guess.”
“Goodnight. But where are you going?” Dew asked as he made his way to his bunk.
Phantom cocked his head, pointing at the curtain.
“No one ever sleeps alone here, thought you would’ve noticed by now.”
That same violet blush darkened across the high planes of his face. He still wasn’t sure if it was an invitation until Dew yanked him into their bunk. As a gesture of goodwill, they let him have the middle. Taking turns fiddling with his feathery black hair, playing with his tail, squishing him a bit too hard between them.
Both Rain and Dew let out a resounding sigh when the mattress started to vibrate thanks to the intense purr rumbling like a lawnmower between them.
Dew remembered being new, he remembered laying just like this. Between Ifrit and Mountain. And Rain, just the same. In between Aether and Cumulus. So friendship it was. Letting Phantom fuck Dew again? That could be tabled for now.

hiii!! i come to you with a logan and oscar idea, poly or separate, idc. so it’s established that what leads to oscar joining logan and his dom is logan finding him in subspace but alternatively going with the past d/s au, what if logan knew that oscar had this horrible dom and it shattered his heart everytime he thought about it like “i have a good dom, why can’t oscar? oscars good too, why can’t he have good things?”
so this leads to Logan talking to his dom about oscar and his dom saying yes because well all oscar and Logan really want is to be good, at their cores they are good boys. so logan finds oscar and that time and brings him with him back to his dom and at this point they are both sobbing, oscar from his bad drop with his (team assigned) dom and logan because once again he can’t really rationalize in this headspace that oscar can’t have as good a dom as he does. so you end up talking with both of them when they are out of subspace and coming to an agreement that oscar is now your sub. i think that with logan being collared it might cause some issues like internally for oscar, especially when he enters subspace like “am i not good enough to be collared too?” :(. which of course he is and you end up having to have a long conversation with oscar about how you love him just as much as you love logan. and thought number 2 which is far less developed: what do you think logan is like as a little? cause i personally see him as being more laidback, kind of like max but with less trauma. but he still has his moments unlike when he’s not little, little!logan is wayyyyyyyy more hurt by you (his mommy/daddy) talking to other littles. ESPECIALLY ones he feels like are better than him. he’s always afraid you’re going to leave him for a “better” little. feel free to add any of your thoughts (also sorry for any mistakes, english is my third language) -love 🎾anon
Firstly, please know that you guys can always send ideas that don't merge with the 'canon' of our verses! Nothing is set in stone and I love exploring different ideas. Anyway, I love this so much.
I love how pure Logan is about it? He's really just there like 'I good boy, I have good dom. But Oscar good boy? Why no good dom for Oscar? MUST FIX" and that's it. That's far as the plan goes.
He's long since decided that when it comes to anything to do with scening and dynamics, it is your problem. Ever since you collared him, he kinda just tells you his vague thoughts and lets you do the rest cause you're his dom and he trusts you.
So with this, he thought no further than the fact that Oscar deserves a better dom and you are a better dom therefore you must dom Oscar and him together.
Of course you say yes when Logan brought it up to you. Not only because you would do anything to make Logan never look so sad again, but also because you genuinely love Oscar and it breaks your heart to know he's not getting what he needs.
You except Oscar to be upset when he comes to you, but you don't Logan to also be in a breakdown. Logan is just crying and hugging Oscar, mumbling that it isnt fair! Oscar should be with you and him, not some terrible mclaren dom!
Of course hearing this makes Oscar cry even more, because he wants what you and Logan have so bad.
You don't actually scene with them properly, because you havent been able to talk to Oscar about his limits yet and because they're both far too upset. Maybe you let them kneel for you? They get to kneel right next to each other, their legs pressed against each other and they can even hold hands. Within ten minutes they've formed a cuddle pile at your feet and honestly it's just the cutest?
You've got two good boys cuddling at your feet, looking up at you for praise and reassurance.
Oscar spends the night, cuddles between you and Logan and has the best sleep he's had in a long time. You discuss everything in the morning and all of three you realise that Oscar needs to also be your sub.
So that's what happens.
But yeah Oscar definitely has a problem with Logan having a collar, and it's actually so difficult for him to workout what his problem even is? Because he's not upset that Logan is collared, he's happy! He loves watching you and Logan together, and his heart would break if you took Logan's collar away.
But at the same time, his heart just aches sometimes? Cause he... he wants a collar too. He wants to really feel like he belongs to you.
And I think Logan feels really guilty about that? He can see that it's upsetting Oscar and he doesn't know what to do. Oscar just joined, so he knows it's too early for Oscar to be collared, but he also knows that there's no way in hell he's going to take his collar off around Oscar. He hasn't been without a collar for over three years and he's not about to start now, it would break him.
Maybe you get Oscar a play collar? A collar that he only wears during scenes and that he can request to wear around the house too. He can't put his own play collar on, it has to be you that does it and if you aren't there, then it can be Logan but you must order Logan to do it.
Oscar ADORES his play collar, and pretty soon he's always wearing it around the house.
Within two months he's gotten his own day collar, because once he knows what it's like to wear your collar, he doesn't ever want to stop.
Maybe Oscar and Logan get each other bracelets? So it's like they've kinda collared each other too.
LITTLE!LOGAN:
I'm not gonna spend too much time on this because of how long the d/s au idea was, but I do want to say this: I love the idea that he's jealous?
He's actually a pretty independent little, happy to watch cartoons and drink from his sippy cup while you work or chat to another caregiver but the moment you even look at another little, he's pouting and whining and fussing. HE'S your baby boy, no one else!
(Except... except he doesn't mind when you look after Oscar.)
