So the doors all through the show are a representation of the entrance to levels of the mind of someone and Vecna is intruding in their minds

for Will in season two the door opens on its own and Will goes out and then they cut and the next episode he seems to be fine like nothing happened but in reality Vecna got inside his head and started to possess him slowly

then in season 4 there's Vecna that to enter Chrissy's mind tries to open the bathroom door at first

and then he tries again at Eddie's trailer and Chrissy at first resists and she runs away and Vecna says "Chrissy open the door"

every door is going more and more inside their own minds but Vecna follows them to enter forcefully... he scares them into their worst nightmares

after Vecna is inside their minds he traps the victims inside by putting barriers outside of the doors like he wants to keep them prisoners in their deepest fears to keep them there

All of this also reminds me of the It movies and the doors the characters have to go through!

There are also many other instances in which doors are featured inside the mindscape of someone like with Max trying to shut the door and Vecna removing it

And then we have the door with the rose inside Vecna's mind space and Nancy being guided through that to see Henry's story because she's inside his mind now

We see Henry going in and out of different rooms and these doorframes all bring to a specific moment in time in his memories

I can't put all the other pictures but we also have El going in and out of the same doors when she's running inside her own mind in the loop in her memories

Also in Nancy's nightmare when Vecna attacks her he tries to keep her inside by shutting a door but she opens it and runs at first

And I'm sure there are other moments if I look for them... Like

In season 3 there's the red door El goes through to enter Heather's mind

I think I remember Patrick seeing a door opening with the clock inside (but I have to rewatch bc I'm not sure)

I don't think Fred goes through any door except the one in the ground if you count the grave as a door idk lol

The only thing I can't really figure out is the "leave the door open 3 inches thing" of El and Hopper... I have to think about how this fits metaphorically 🤔

Voiceplay Visuals: Golden Hour

From one post about a kinda-strange Voiceplay video to another!

It took me a while to decide to watch this video as well (because basically I saw the thumbnail and was like "Hm."), but I'm very glad that I did, because, well, if you've seen the video, you know what I'm talking about. 😁

This video was uploaded on the 18th of March, 2023 (almost exactly 11 months ago as I type this, though for you it will be just slightly over a year ago), and stars the young and talented Anthony Gargiula (pronounced gar-jool-a) in his first guest collaboration with Voiceplay, and, in an acting role, the video also features Kathy Castellucci as "the toymaker"! So let's get into this!

For any of you who haven't already realized: "Stimmen Spiel" is the literal German translation of "VoicePlay"! (Also I wonder if 1999 was when 4:2:Five (aka VoicePlay) officially began and/or got its original name?)

You'd think this would be obvious enough for all reactors to notice/comment on it, but no

VoicePlay certainly never fail on the creative front, I'll give them that!

It was Geoff's head that struck me as the most odd-looking here, and it took me a while to figure out why that was (kinda embarassing, really ^^;). It wasn't until I was watching a reaction video where the reactor was speculating on if it was very difficult to edit around Cesar's beard that it hit me: it's the hair. It's notably flatter than it usually is (i.e. less volume), and possibly shorter (or at least shorter-looking) as well.

It then wasn't until a while later (I'm really not always the sharpest tool in the shed 😅) that I realized that this explains why in Geoff's Headless Horseman video, the disembodied back-up Geoffs have their hair pulled back - to make the editing easier!

Geoff asks in the comments "who thinks they know what's in the mug that Kathy's drinking?" For the record, I have no clue, but I'm gonna guess coffee 😄

(If you think you're gonna be getting a lot of screencaps of the "singing heads", think again!)

Really good drawing actually (kinda looks like Cesar - deliberate perhaps?), I wonder who actually did it?

Not entirely sure what the sideways writing on the left page says, but I think the third word is "comparable"? And the writing underneath it I believe says "legs same". The sideways writing along the edge of the right page says "eyes have to be evenly spaced apart".

(Also the writing across the top of the right page says "all features must be constant by numbers")

The width measurement between the two eyes on the right page is 9 inches, and I wonder if that was just a random number/average distance between the centres of a person's eyes, or if actual measurements were taken from you-know-who for this? (Same goes for the other measurements written in the book!)

Did the person who did the drawings in this book do all the writing as well? Because it's aesthetically nice, but not the easiest to read!

The writing on the left page says "all markings must be [????]" (I can't make out that last word).

Also might as well take this opportunity to point out the Pinocchio doll sitting in the windowsill in the background! (Above Geoff's head.) Pinocchio is of course the story of a puppet who becomes a "real boy", so a very fitting inclusion/easter egg for the video (and Pinocchio is originally an Italian story - coincedence? 👀)

We stan Kathy Castellucci in this house! Love her! 💜

Partially sharing this as a "this was an interesting little visual effects/editing moment in the video that I felt like I had to acknowledge" thing, and partially sharing this as a "if I had to see this, so do you!" thing 😆

The mannequin body now has a white shirt with slightly-puffy long sleeves and a loose collar. Hm, who of the group has occasionally worn shirts like that I wonder?? 🤔 (😜😁)

I'm wondering a lot of things about this video I know, but did Kathy actually do any proper tailoring/stitching on that outfit?

God help me they're TOO CUTE

Honestly what a freaking payoff for a video that my brain was otherwise reluctant to fully process. Sure, there are reasons for at least listening to this song on Spotify, such as swoon-worthy original bridge section written by the one and only Geoff Castellucci, and the gorgeously stunning 5-part harmony on "shine" right after that bridge, but THIS ^ right here is the reason for watching the video. Shoutout to Layne, who edited this video and did the arrangement (other than the bridge, which was all Geoff's), and shoutout to both Layne and Tony, who are both credited with video concept, set design, and direction!

(And I feel like I must add that Kathy herself commented on this video, telling fans that "This only shows me creating prototype #1. You can safely assume my next projects were numbers 2, 3, 4 and 5. And they all turned out perfect 💙")

omg! your typing of alicia vikander left me bamboozled. i thought she was FN. doesn't she have that squarish body shape that you mentioned models usually have? like, i agree that she looks more dainty than angelina but she still looks super athletic no 🤔

This is a really good question!!

I feel like I kinda already touch on that with the playlists I’ve made for both Marc and Steven (I haven’t made one for Jake yet). But, those playlists are also a mix of songs that I personally associate with them and not necessarily what I think they’d listen to.

So to be specific…

STEVEN - Other than ABBA (Chiquitita, One of Us and Slipping Through My Fingers are his favourite, you can’t convince me otherwise), I think Steven listens to softer-ish music?? Like he DEFINITELY cries to Mitski when he’s just super fucking overwhelmed (especially First Love/Late Spring, and I Bet on Losing Dogs). But he also listens to old French music when he’s content. Though he only listens to them on records. As a record collector myself, I like to think I can pick people out who vibe with a record player, and he’s one of them.

MARC - NOW. Marc is a lil’ different. I definitely think Marc is the type of person to like a little bit of everything?? Like he has, at least, one favourite song from each genre. Which makes him super fun to listen to car radio’s with, because he won’t be opposed to any station you put on. BUT, he definitely has his preferences. And one of his guilty pleasures is Nirvana. Music is incredibly powerful, and so I feel that after the abuse from his mom started, he would’ve turned to an outlet (other than Steven). So of course pre-teen/teenager Marc is going to turn to the most angsty shit there is. Thus…Nirvana. At the time, he would say Smells Like Teen Spirit is his favourite (because what person doesn’t say that at some point in their lives). But now, he would say that he always loved Heart-Shaped Box. (He also definitely would’ve gone to a friends house to watch Unplugged in New York, because his mom probably would never let him have the tv. I take no criticism.)

JAKE - so Jake is a little trickier, just because we saw so little of him. (I wanna say he would like any sort of Spanish music, but I think that’s kinda typical??) Strangely though, I think he’d honestly be into Lionel Richie (All Night Long and Endless Love, to be exact), and possibly even 70s disco? Idk I could just be projecting entirely, but I feel like he secretly listens to Donna Summer in the safety of his limo. And if that’s the case, Last Dance is one thousand percent his favourite. Now, I also believe that Jake is the type to make a playlist specifically for sexy time. Both of you have given your own input, songs that each of you like that help get ya in the mood. The things like nearly 10 hours long, and a lot of it is just The Weeknd, Doja Cat, etc. (you put Let’s Get it On in there as a joke, but Jake’s adopted it as “the warmup song”). THOUGH I WILL SAY, CLOSER BY NINE INCH NAILS IS ON THAT FUCKING PLAYLIST TOO AND ITS BOTH OF YOUR GUYS’ FAVOURITE FOR OBVIOUS REASONS.

Spleen - "That Was My Head" Darque Fonque 1997 Illbient / Trip Hop

Although his biggest successes have come via his partnership with UK alt-indie darling PJ Harvey as her producer, Bristol native Rob Ellis has also headed up a nebulous side project called Spleen, which was less of a band and more of a large collective. In their roughly ten years of work, Spleen managed to release a total of three albums and three singles, and PJ Harvey herself is considered to have been a member of the project.

The thing about Spleen though is that every single song in their catalog was made by an assortment of different people, meaning no song has the same exact lineup. And I guess that's what led to their sound being classified as a whole bunch of different things, from stoner rock, to art rock, to jazz-rock, to avant garde, to ambient, to experimental rock. But with this track that originated from their first 12-inch, 1996's Like a Watermelon, they appear to add illbient trip hop to that varied list of genres.

Illbient, for those that don't know, is this very eerie, unsettling, dark, and off-kilter form of instrumental hip hop or trip hop. Its foremost practitioner is a very talented guy who goes by the name of DJ Spooky (naturally), and he was part of this tight-knit scene that formed in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in the mid-90s. Illbient's biggest label, WordSound, is also responsible for releasing top-notch hip hop producer Prince Paul's long-awaited debut album, Psychoanalysis: What Is It?, in 1997, which got into some hip hop experimentalism as well.

Anyway, that Brooklyn-made illbient sound appears to have also seeped its way across the pond, as the duo of Techno Animal—Godflesh lead singer and former Napalm Death drummer Justin Broadrick and his constant collaborator Kevin Martin, aka The Bug—brought it forth in 1995 with a lengthy double-disc called Re-Entry, which was released on Virgin. Then the following year, Spleen went in a similar direction with a song called "That Was My Head," which first appeared on the Like a Watermelon 12-inch, and was then included on Middle Earth Recordings' Darque Fonque compilation in 1997.

But there's actually a common thread here between Spleen and Techno Animal: a drummer from Chicago named Lou Ciccotelli, who's played in some UK bands, including one called God, which also claimed the two guys from Techno Animal as its members. And Ciccotelli is also credited with co-writing this Spleen song with Rob Ellis, so maybe he's the one who brought the Techno Animal-God sound along with him to make this tune? Most other Spleen tracks don't sound like this one 🤔.

The overall eeriness of this over-eight-minute song comes through immediately, sounding like some kind of anxiety-inducing horror film score, with strewn-about, disconcerting sax phrases laid over ominous strings. But it's not until about 70 seconds in when this thing really starts to take shape and adopts its illbient sound, with what I'm guessing is Ciccotelli's contribution: a killer, booming drum track. Now, almost every drum track—whether it be hip hop, trip hop, or illbient—is made with either a drum machine or some kind of software. But there's a certain crispness, clarity, and depth to a live recorded drum track that you just can't replicate with any kind of electronics, and I think Ciccotelli's playing on this tune proves my point here.

Once it enters, Ciccotelli's beat holds steady, which then allows Ellis to get all this pent-up experimental avantgardism out of his system. He starts with the sax, gets to keys and an organ, and then he starts unveiling sounds that leave me scratching my head as to what he even used to create them ⁉ Maybe he literally banged his noggin on some things and that's why this song is called what it is?

Me: "Okay, so what did you use to make *this* sound?”

Rob Ellis: "Yeah, that was my head"

Me: 😮

Either way, I tend not to vibe much towards illbient, because a lot of it's just too weird and cold for my tastes, but Ciccotelli's live drums here are too nice for me to ignore, and it allows me the opportunity to get out of my comfort zone and experience whatever the hell it is that PJ Harvey's producer is conjuring up behind him.

Spleen was really ~something else~.

By the way, another terrific trip hop track that uses live drums is Red Snapper's original demo of "4 Dead Monks," which appears on Warp Records' We Are Reasonable People compilation. Check it out if you dig this too 👍.

Hmm I definitely agree with most of your rant regarding neils ao3 characterization, with the idea that gay relationships can't be written as heteronormative, honestly especially if one of them is gender nonconforming, and I do think some of the dislike around his character can be from a place of transmisogyny. And people who ask for more masc4masc and fem4fem couples are a bit dumb. But I still have a bone to pick with his characterization on ao3 and I can't put my finger on whyyyy

Maybe, it's because (and I'm speaking about the state of the fandom back around 3??or 4?? Years ago when I would actively go through the tags and look for fanfiction and neil was my fave) it was always neil bottoming in every fic ever, no matter what character he was being shipped with in the fic, but like a lot of these fics or even the ones that weren't explicit would have something happen to him where he was the victim or he needed to be coddled and comforted by everyone else, and while I don't think neil is impervious and will never feel and inch of distress in his life, i can't help but think it's a bit ooc (not that there's anything wrong with ooc fic) and it's like neil can also be dangerous and has the capacity to hurt ppl and can be a dickhead but I don't think alot of fic back then showed that? They'd just call him sassy maybe he'd make a few quips and that's it. I think theres a lot of fics out there that wipe out his complexity ig. Maybe I just hate his characterization bc I wanna be a contrarion and I find his characterization boring if it's like that because you can find it in any fandom assigned bottom ever and ive seen it too much so i wanted to see a switch up or its more about his personality being written and less about being feminine and bottoming though i do think the ppl who write him being more feminine also tend to write his character a certain way. But like I also cant help but wonder where it comes from, like it's neil written like this and rarely ever andrew so

i see what you mean re: neil losing his edge, and i do think that it happens a lot with him because he is the protagonist and a prominent character in the vast majority of aftg fics, but i wouldn't say the same de-fanging process doesn't happen to andrew. the fandom has made it a point to soften all of andrew's edges; it's one of the most common bones people pick with nora that she never gives into the idea that andrew becomes a normal, well-adjusted, life-loving member of society post-canon. whether i enjoy andrew in a softer way or not is irrelevant, but i think this is definitely not a neil-only phenomena. i wouldn't even say it's really more pronounced when it's neil! i just think that helplessness, that lack of agency and bite, is a staple of most fandom content because it's self-indulgent and forces characters to act on their relationships by asking for and receiving help from their peers, whatever it might look like for each specific fandom

now i will say that i don't think that the process of making characters wholesome and ultimately consumable has anything to do with whether they are written as feminine or not; whether they are only in a receiving position or not. sexual preferences and gender presentations are inherently neutral: they don't say anything about a person's personality. i think neil bottoming being such a popular trope is just due to a natural consequence of how andrew and neil's relationship is presented in the books — andrew as someone who, at the point of where canon stops, physically cannot allow himself to be on the receiving end of any sexual act, and neil, who loves him and wants to help andrew to find pleasure in whatever way he can. it's the dynamic we're given in the original text, so it's what people tend to think about more.

of course i'm not saying it never overlaps with neil's excessive sanitizing and de-fanging, and it might as well be, for some people, that neil's acquiescence to andrew having control of what they do in bed is an entirely justifiable reason for writing him in a more feminine way. my opinion is, i think, just that that is not inherently immoral — that feminine people with those sexual preferences exist, and at times might even find that their gender presentation plays a big role in why they prefer to interact with sex the way they do. the history of femme pillow princesses in the lesbian community is vast, just as is the history of stone top butches. these minor niches don't imply that all feminine and masculine people must respectively bottom and top, but we do no one a favor by disregarding their experiences when they are a big part of how queer people do sex. i think we fall into old conservative myths when we moralize sexual preferences; i think we try to conform to cisheteronormative ideals when we deny gender presentations that are inherently tied to sex.

and just as a personal comment, i actually agree with you about neil being written as a perpetual, helpless victim and losing his agency. i don't enjoy it. i think it is born from indulgence, born from projection and wish fulfilment, but indulgence isn't immoral. projection and wish fulfilment aren't immoral, either. and, while i don't like the sanitization of aftg characters, i think it is less a character or fandom-specific issue and more of a material consequence of late stage capitalism; it's a symptom of a sickness that goes beyond our little constructed world, and one we should discuss, in my opinion, outside of the boundaries of fandom and individual guilt

i guess my tl;dr is that sometimes things are bad and we have to sit with their right to exist anyway. and my general tl;dr is that we help no one when we go out of our ways to condemn and criticize content where one of the characters is gender non-conforming because of said gender nonconformity. and, ultimately, that what we are missing is more fanfiction about kevin day in tiny tennis skirts

I was reading Kengan omega again because I miss Raian, and anyways, the point is that it comes when granpa kure dies. I always wanted to know more about her relationship with Raian. I think Raian and his gramps never were close not even an inch close.

Their relationship was more like based on convenience ( gramps side ).

Raian is arrogant and very self centered .

I think in Erioh younger years he wasn't as arrogant as Raian since he started working at the age of 20 being the first fang of mutsodo, that gave him more sense of responsibility and self awareness at a very young age which madr him kinda more realistic when it comes to life expectations.

Whereas Raian is a spoiled brat, privileged kid who nothing can stop him not even Gramps himself

If you read through the chapters you will find out that Raian has no regards to the way he addresses his gramps, but you can literally see glimps of their relationships if you read between the lines.

Erioh, believes strongly in Raian's abilities, kinda proud of this offspring / breed

Erioh before he died he said that Raian will surpass him in his prime time, that is enough evident that Erioh had hopes on Raian to evolve and develope .

Raian as an individual usually goes opposite his gramps instructions and orders most of the time but there is one thing that Raian will never do ... To jeopardise the safety of his clan and his ppl and say No if Erioh had the final say. Raian will obey, Period.

There was also an incident when they had fun picking on each other and you can tell , how patient and understanding Erioh is with Raian.

The relationship between them is not weired its just like a wild child being mindfully treated and carefully observed by a responsible elderly man who been there and done it all.

Erioh don't control Raian he actually made him the wild card of the clan and he let it be because the clan probably needed a sadistic man like him. I guess Erioh mis-calculated that along the way because Raian turned out to be a monster on many levels 😁😆😅.

Over all I love Erioh and I love how Raian and Erioh relationship is anything but conventional.

When Eioh got killed in the end , Raian was sitting there far from everyone looking down and angry. I kinda feel that Raian felt guilty somehow for letting his gramps die.

It's weird to say this but I feel that Raian deeply respects Erioh and he wants to be a better version of him.

Raian doesn’t have a role model but Erioh has always been and will always be his reference in many things related to assassination businesses .

you know.... ive been reading these tags....... and i just think its funny that having valid motivation behind the outburst doesn't excuse the way that luke talks to annabeth bc he is just a big ole meanie and having real emotions behind his harsh words isnt an excuse....... but no one seems to be batting an eye at percy literally calling her stupid to her face.........

and obv as a reader it's easy to be like 'but percy cares about her! he's speaking from a place of frustration!' and that's true, but luke also cares about her even if the situation is a little complex and his reasons for being angry with her in ch 31 were very valid! he has every right to be upset with her and while he shouldnt have snapped on her, he is human! but percy snaps and it's just crickets.......... inch resting !
