Guess who underestimated the homework his teachers would leave her before Easter?

It was me 😍 and I lived the great experience of sleeping 3 hours (I don't recommend it, don't be like me) but thank God Easter finally arrived. I don't know if this happen in Brazil but México is too catholic to exist and if you are a student you have 1 beautiful week off because Jesus did his thing Hehehehe

Fun fact about me. It took me years to realize that the USA bunnies and eggs were for Easter. Like my head couldn't comprehend that we celebrate in theory the same thing or something similar because here instead of chocolate eggs there is blood, destruction and rebirth and stuff like that hahaha

Well, I will stop rambling about that and I'd better start rambling about our eternal debates.

Every time Coriolanus saw Persephone I had to laugh. Im so sorry 😭😭😭😭, I understand that it was a really traumatic experience to see a man mutilate a body to commit anthropophagy and not only he did it, Baby Persefone also ate ate human flesh unknowingly (although that's the most tragic thing about it you know? it's implied that Nero Price resorted to such an extreme measure because he had a family to feed, and the man may be named Nero -you can deduce a lot of things from that-, but I can't help but want to give him a hug because no one deserves to have to live through such anguish, all to avoid Baby Perse dying of famine ahhhh) but I just can't help but laugh when the poor girl is just existing and Coriolanus is screaming in his head "she's going to eat me, she's going to eat me, she's going to eat me"

Like dude. Thats a teenager who lived through war and famine in her childhood, not Hannibal Lecter 😭😭😭😭😭

While we know very little about Persephone outside of that incident, she strikes me as a pretty sweet girl by Capitol standards. I don't recall us having a description where she had an overbearing attitude (like Juno, oh she lives in my head for free) or made dehumanizing comments concerning the tributes.

In fact she was quite sorry about Arachne's death, and even though Coryo was being a jerk to her, Persephone gave him a hug under the impression that he was one of those most affected by said event.

She sent food and water to Mizzen every time he asked for it and in abundance. She teamed up with Festus to put together a joint strategy for their tributes to have a better chance of getting out alive and when the drone mess happened she wanted to talk diplomatically with Dr. Gaul because they were hacked and what she sent to Mizzen didn't arrive (and later the boy died) 🥺

Also Persephone is one of those who asks about Coriolanus when he is sent to D12. And the thing is, yes, I think all the mentors have a lot of potential to explore but under the specific theme of "people from the academy who could have been friends with Sejanus", Persefone seems like a good choice to me.

Especially because they have a lot of similarities in their relationship with Coriolanus: he pretends to like Sejanus and Persephone when in reality he is terrified of both of them and has contempt for them.

Besides the fact that she is Coriolanus' neighbor offers a LOT OF POTENTIAL 🤭 does she even know or suspect the Snows situation?, does she know and get along with Tigris?, wouldn't you love a snowjanus fanfic where they secretly date but she is the only one who knows they are boyfriends because she has seen Sejanus there all the time? Speaking of academy students I'M SO GLAD YOU SEE THE VIEW ON PUP 😭 It's a somewhat cruel hc because damn he's been to Sejanus' house, he's experienced first hand the kindness of the Plinth and yet he resents it. He resents it because his father forced him to spend time with the scum of the district, because he's met him and realized in a way that none of his other peers know how different and vulnerable Sejanus is. It's fucked up. Very fucked up.

🤣 On the contrary I think Strabo and Pliny could get along really well, which is terrible for the whole family but also a hc too much fun to pass up. Btw I think it would be realistic for Mr Harrington to meet Crassus. Pls get together from time to time to do hate hour club towards Crassus (they don't invite Casca because he is too stoned but if he was sober oh boi what they could have done and what Sejanus would have suffered from having THE DEAN be a bitchy about a dead men with his father LMAO...)

As I mentioned to Crassus and Casca I think this is the time to discuss it because BUDDIE I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY. I love the very realistic aspect of absent or present parents, the past to say the least haunting and shaping the youth causing unintentionally events to repeat themselves - giving rise to very similar circumstances, continuing behaviors and ideologies (I wouldn't say History repeats itself because I'm a little historian in training and I get the pet peeve...)

IS VERY INTENSE.

The case of Coriolanus and Crassus is in my opinion one of the points that best reflects the discussion Suzanne mentioned wanting to explore with TBOSAS: nature vs. the environment. At what point does culture dictate nature and vice versa. Like Marina's song: Savages. Which is very deterministic in several aspects but I highlight this phrase:

Is it running in our blood? Is it running in our veins?

Is it running in our genes? Is it in our DNA?

Humans aren't gonna behave as we think we always should

Yeah, we can be bad as we can be good

Coriolanus did not know Crassus. And yet his influence over him is overwhelming. Which is quite striking when you consider that he knows NOTHING that tells him who his father really was, only the impression and roles that man played in other people's lives.

His grandmother told him of an exemplary son, a patriotic man, a Snow. Tigris spoke to him of a cold man, of someone full of hatred and terrifying. Casca spoke to him of the worst human being who ever walked the earth, of a traitor, cruel and wicked. And Strabo of someone who hated the people of the district and enigmatic.

All Coriolanus has are fragments and he has had to reconstruct his father from them.

That image is full of holes that Coriolanus had to actually fill in with himself. So while upbringing does influence character (the grandmother's role in Coriolanus' care, the woman who made Crassus, the Capitol itself and its ways), I think what ultimately determines his following in his father's footsteps is that he actually built him - his father - based on cultural and social aspects to which he had access so that being like him in such a similar way was something achievable.

I do not know if it is understood (and I think that the excess of homework made me lose my communication skills), but I mean that as Coriolanus does not really know who his father was, and can only try to define him through others who denounce him based on a social or cultural norm, to which he can aspire to pursue it is possible then that he can follow in his footsteps.

If Crassus were alive, if he were flesh and blood, capable of contradicting or affirming these denunciations on the basis of his coexistence with society, Coriolanus could not have been like him. He would have reacted to a living and unpredictable something because Crassus would be a flawless human.

And that mean something. Like Coriolanus idealizing his in a very strange way because she is dead, she is not a human anymore..., although all this argument is under the idea that your context shapes you. And we can't really ignore biology: Coriolanus bears a strong resemblance to Crassus physically. So how far do genetics go in determining character? When he was born blond and with blue eyes - the eyes of his father - was his fate sealed?

(As we know and you explained well when we discussed the choice of Coriolanus as protagonist: the final answer for Suzanne I think is a 50% - 50% and emphasizing that the important, the determining factor really lies in our own criteria and the choices we make and what each one of them implies and the responsibility we acquire of what socio-cultural ideas we decide to perpetuate).

Now my very personal opinion on Crassus and Casca.

While I like to slander the Snow's as much as anyone in this specific case I like to believe that there were no bad intentions because that makes it more fucked up lmao. I think Crassus genuinely liked Casca and actually believed he was doing his friend a favor since Casca mentions he was doing poorly in Dr. Gaul's class.

So think of it this way: Crassus knows his friend is in danger of missing class. They team up to do a paper in said class and on a night of drinking Casca is suddenly sharing a good idea, one that Dr. Gaul might specifically like!!!, it was his chance!!!!!

Crassus just needed to write a nice paper with what Casca his bestie already told him. "I'm sure Casca would thank me, I gave him the encouragement he needed to get his smart brain to think of something to avoid having a bad grade with dr. Gaul!!!!!" Yippee 😊

It's that horrible things happen because of good wills that to me is fascinating. Because Crassus had no way of knowing that they were going to go to war with the districts. Much less that the Capitol would win said war and that Dr. Gaul would implement the college project they did so they wouldn't lost grades

In what world would that happen?

I can tell you from experience but there is no more terrifying hotbed for atrocities than academia and its constant theorizing, hypothesizing, perhaps. People will say ABSOLUTELY WILD things as long as they view everything hypothetically.

Which is what Casca does. What Crassus sees and approves. And what Gaul implements because she knows best, how the world works.

I think Casca / Crassus in any case is a parallel to Clemensia / Coriolanus because Coryo also didn't believe that doing Dr. Gaul's work and lying about Clemensia's participation in it was going to bring such fatal consequences for her. And if you notice all the mentors didn't believe that they were actually going to implement their ideas.

They were surprised that dr. Gaul told them it was a possibility: it was at that instant that they discovered that the idea could cross the mind's field and become real.

As an aside. I once saw on tiktok a very interesting question and it was exactly at what point Casca will have started to hate Crassus? We know they argued after that incident but Casca could not have condemned Crassus at that point for the reasons he later does (creating the hunger games).

Maybe he complained because he got him drunk!!!, because he didn't write the paper right!!!, or because he didn't need to be saved from losing a grade with Dr. Gaul!!! (And I can very well see Crassus getting upset because: "what is wrong with Casca?!!!!!! I helped him and this is how he repays ME? How ungrateful!) but not because he ruined his life and condemned the districts.

Nah. That came later. Maybe when the first games happened, a youthful bitterness turned into Casca eternal condemnation.

With this, I don't want to say that I am against Casca / Crassus and Sejanus / Coriolanus parallels. ON THE CONTRARY I LOVE THEM VERY MUCH!

In short, I can't help but wonder what Casca must have felt when he saw Sejanus blindly trusting a Snow. If he must have wanted to warn him or if every time he saw them together he thought of him and Crassus (the phrase "like a moth to the flame?," he projects himself). IT IS DELICIOUS AND CRUEL

A PART. See all the ideas we discussed about Sejanus' unfortunate fate if he had stayed in the Capitol?, most of them I got from Casca because I'm sure THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SEJANUS IF HE HAD STAYED.

Casca mentions that he tried to stop the games JULI!!! HE TRIED! AND MANY TIMES. We don't know what those attempts consisted of but we know they failed and not only that but they blew it. That man had a big guilt eating him alive and somehow everyone let him be a drug addict in an academy full of sons of the elite? I'm telling you that happened because they wanted it to happen!

Someone gave him morphiling. Someone gave him access to a dosis everyday. Someone let him become an addict without ever helping him get sober. Someone let him "embarrass" himself in front of other people, especially children.

Someone did everything they could so that NO ONE WOULD TAKE CASCA SERIOUSLY, so that he would self-destruct *I roll on the floor in consparanoia*

Well I'm normal again. I'll just say that this infodump is kind of like spoilers for the wedding fic because those are my headcanons and you'll ultimately see them there...

About the fandom and the movies:

Really the tribute actors deserve a lot of appreciation because they did wonders AND GOD YES I AM OBSESSED BY HOW AMAZING THE MARCUS ACTOR WAS. THE GUY DIDN'T EVEN SPEAK ONCE TO SEJANUS BUT HIS EXPRESSIVITY????! ughhh yes yes yes you are so right about the angeeer, the tiredness HE EXPRESS

😭😭 As you are also right about how much small changes contribute greatly to the quit any politic aspect of the films. Because even if they are one page or one line details, they were put there to help better convey the big message and getting rid of them, makes the story lose its intentions and strength (especially the choice of cast we already saw with Rue's case, that can provoke strong reactions and questioning, Katniss being played by someone POC would have raised a worse stir but at the same time would have forced an interesting questioning).

In def I think the biggest flaws of THG movies were the choice of main cast (except Peeta althought with this I dont mean I hate the main cast. I believe they were infredible!!! 🥺 but ugh the big message really feel and come a lot lest), focusing on the love triangle (that was so dumb... The triangle ITS LITERALLY ALMOST NON EXISTING IN THE BOOKS) and getting rid of the more disruptive parts (NEVER SHUT UP ABOUT DISABLE PEETA). I'm not surprised that happened, in fact that approach is the one that allowed the books to be adapted to the big screen: because those aspects respond to the market and its tastes.

It's the way you ensure a profit, a business, and although as people have grown older they have begun to appreciate THG more for its denouncing content, the truth is that I'm sure many of us approached the franchise because it seemed on the surface to be something far away and impossible, that had little to do with reality.

Because many products today are like that. Made by and for consumption, just like that.

The human mind is fascinating. Because the cousins are still close. Tigris always felt pressured not only to meet the expectations of her own parents (I don't think they were strict or cold but the type support her and are proud? and YES YES YESSSS YOU PUT IT PERFECTLY INTO WORDS!!!!! coriolanus idolizes crassus because, despite knowing what other people said about him, he never knew him (this also may be a reach, but what coriolanus thinks of crassus is what he thinks as the ideal man, the ideal dad, the ideal person, the person coriolanus aims to be, and even a bit of himself; and all of that is also a mix of everything he hear about crassus: everything, including the bad things, and in the end, coriolanus molded himself into what he thought of crassus snow, but without ever knowing him). you know that phrase, "never meet your heroes"? sometimes, it's not just because they're straight up assholes, it's because they're humans with flaws, and therefore, they can't be idolized. we can't create a perfect version of them in our heads (because that's what we do with people we don't know, we never talked to; we create versions of them in our heads, as if they're characters).

and that's what coriolanus does with his dead father.

(and yes!!! I've seen a BRILLIANT post earlier where the person made comparisons between lgb, coriolanus and sejanus and the three mains philosophers who mold the tbosas narrative; but even though there are three main philosophers, there are also plenty of other debates sprinkled there. and one of the debates I can see is the determinism. right before the start, when we know that the main character is coriolanus snow, we can bring ourselves to ask: is it a matter of fate, of genetics, of nature? or is it purely choice, a matter of society, a matter of envinroment? and the answer is both... even though we know what weighs the most.)

I REALLY like your interpretation of crassus and casca, and actually, it makes things even more tragic and horrible. that's what they say, isn't it? that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. and also, this is even much more interesting because in the end, it's a big butterfly effect. imagine if casca never got drunk that day. it was a small thing, a small action that ended up causing the most terrifying and horrible event in panem, an event that keeps going and going for more than 70 YEARS. we're talking about 1701 dead children (and I didn't count the 75th quarter quell). and all because of a night casca got drunk... and what possibly was what crassus thought to be a good action.

AND OH MY GODDDDDDDDD I DIDN'T THINK ABT IT!!!!!! AND IT!!! MAKES!!! SO!!! MUCH!!! SENSE!!! I'M SCREAMING

specially because when you think better abt it, coriolanus did almost the same to clemensia (he put her name on a horrific assignment for the games where he said the most horrific things, things SHE didn't completely agree on) because she was mourning over arachne. and he did it much before knowing about what crassus had done.

this maybe doesn't mean anything. but it maybe does. it's just interesting to think abt.

and about the question about when casca started hating crassus: this makes things even worse because... even if casca was mad at first bc of the assignment, let's suppose he didn't hate casca right away (which I think he didn't; why would he hate him like that bc of that? it doesn't make sense to me, at least). that means he probably mourned over his death.

and this also means he probably hated crassus when he was dead, when he couldn't even scream on his face about how much of a DICK and an ASSHOLE and a HORRIBLE human being he was.

I'm sick.

I LOVE THIS THOUGHT, even though it's SO tragic and cruel. imagine casca seeing sejanus and coriolanus pairing up for a school work, and he immediately separates them and makes sejanus do the work with someone else. coriolanus thinks that it's because casca hates him, but it's actually other thing. it's fear. not only fear for sejanus and his fate, but if the first time what happened were the hunger games... then what the hell will happen on the second time? what's as bad as the hunger games, or even worse, that coriolanus snow could do?

and omg you're a GENIUS, BECAUXE EXACTLYYYYYY. because even if casca got addicted by himself, even if it were his choices... nobody helped. nobody did a thing. and it was definitely a choice to let him teach at the academy in his state, without anyone doing anything. if a new generation sees that man, that stoned and addicted man who constantly embarass himself, saying stuff about how the games are bad and yada yada yada... who'll believe him? who'll take him seriously? the new generation would never give in to these ideas.

the casting for tbosas is amazing, all of the actors give their lives for these characters, but the TRIBUTES, ALL OF THEM DESERVE EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING, REALLY.

and yessssssss!!!! I'm not really against casting actors who are different from the book characters, unless we're talking about whitewashing. the thing is, if they kept the descriptions we're given in the book AT LEAST about the seam characters, it would've made a HUGE different in the storytelling. and I agree, I DEFINITELY don't hate the main cast, in the end, I think they did a great job (specially josh hutcherson, he was such a good choice for peeta), but it really weakned some of the messages from the book... and abt the love triangle, the thing is, this was not even the most evil thing of the hunger games marketing from that time 😭 I know it's a common thing that the movie needs to make money, and that capitalism is a bitch, but idk, it's so WEIRD seeing some of the stuff that were marketed around the release time of the movies, specially when we're talking abt a movie like the hunger games.

(there was one thing that REALLY marked me, that was when the marketing team did a line of nail polish, and each color was inspired by a district + the capitol, and the announce had ppl dressed with capitol-like clothes and wigs. and like, it's not rlly a big deal, it's just nail polish, but idk, I wouldn't mind if it was the characters' names or something.... but this always unsettled me so much, it rlly sounded like something the capitol would do, like, "buy the nail polish of your favorite district!!!")

oh and absolutely 😭 SPECIALLY people who did the reverse way, and by that, I mean reading/watching divergent first and THEN reading/watching the hunger games. don't get me wrong, I'm not a 100% divergent hater (even tho I do have my beef with it), but the dystopia in the book is much more of a background thing than a way to denounce stuff. what matters the most is the romance and the characters... where in the hunger games, it's exactly opposite.

and you're so right!!!! even the way ppl talk about watching, reading, listening to thing, it's SO UNSETTLING. they don't say "I watch a lot of fantasy", they say "I CONSUME a lot of fantasy". the popularization of the word "content creator", too. and all of these are easy things, things to watch and ready quickly to pass on the next.

(and this leads me to reflect that nowadays, I feel like fandoms last so much less than older fandoms... exactly because people will move on quickly to the next new thing. they won't take their time to appreciate, to talk about the characters, to make fun memes and read fun fanfics and analyze characters, no, not anymore. but this is just an impression I have, I may be wrong... who knows, right?)

OH THE HUNGER GAMES FANDOM IS REALLY SOMETHING ELSE WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THIS.

like, I SWEAR TO GOD, I've seen people saying that snow isn't the true villain from the hunger games, GALE is. and I'm not a big fan of gale, don't get me wrong, definitely not my favorite character... but how the hell they read three books about a horrible oppressive society and then decide that the oppressed, desperate teenager is the villain, and not the terrible, cruel dictator??? GOD SEND THE FLOOD ALREADY, I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE. and this is not even the WORST take I've seen about this kind of stuff. and yessssss exactly 😭 the rue one, specifically, got me SO shocked, because it really showed how people read the book, but they don't really read the book, they consume it. it was not even a matter of interpretation, it was on the TEXT, and still, people's first instinct was to read the text in a shallow way to the point they completely IGNORED a character's description and imagined them as white.

and as you said, this is a larger issue, because we see this everywhere, in every media that tries to be more political and send a message, because people can't bring themselves to THINK, to ABSORB, to ANALYZE stuff. this all is really concerning, thinking about the future and how fandom culture is slowly changing into a tiktokfication of it (ppl get into a new fandom, enjoy it quickly, don't stop to really think about the takes and stuff, and then move to the next shiny thing; everything is too quick-paced).

AND YESSSSSSS, they're two sides of the same coin!!! lucy gray always seem cheerful and happy to everyone, while coral seems tough, as if nothing scares her, as if she can handle everything. where, actually, they're struggling; they were barely adults when they started raising literal CHILDREN, and they feel so lost, and so alone even though they try to keep the facade that everything is okay and fine. but at least they have each other <3 and again, with coral, lucy gray doesn't feel like she's messing everything up, because she sees, she knows coral struggles just like her, so it's not like there's something wrong with her, it's not like she's doing everything wrong. I love this concept so much <3

Leona threw gold into hell. Also, I thought Leona was going to kill Ortho for that. And I out of the teams, besides Vil’s, Leona and Jamil’s team is the best. I love this group so much. i was taking a break from midterm reviewing and decided to treat myself by rereading <the hitman's guide to getting the girl> and sadjkhfgbaskdfgayusrfgbaskhdfhgadskvga I AM COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY YET AGAIN 😭😭😭😭😭 it almost reads like a romance in verses its so beautifully written and meticulously thought out I AM IN LOVE

im only at chapter 4 rn where they FINALLY KISSED for the very first time but it feels like theyve known each other forever and seamlessly orbit each other, the push and pull that youve perfectly built up in such few short chapters really leaves me breathless and so fulfilled 😭

also, i am really REALLY in love with your brain and would like to spend some quality time with it if you have no objection...👉🏻👈🏻 thus i am here humbly requesting some book recommendations that maybe inspired this fic or remind you of the characters that you crafted in this fic?

hitman's guide!reader is one of my favourite girls!! she's so fun and matches him blow for blow, which was a blast to write!! most of that fic honestly comes from me listening to hozier on repeat because he is my muse.

the way "i'm in love with your brain" is the most beautiful compliment i could ever hope to receive. fuck i love you so much, that means everything to me. plus, asking me for book recommendations might just be the quickest and easiest way to my heart. i seriously love you for that. my taste in books is quite honestly all over the map. a couple of the texts that went into the lore for hitman's guide are:

richard iii AKA my favourite shakespeare play, myths like hades + persephone and icarus, paradise lost, the picture of dorian gray, etc. — very basic classic references but very fun to explore through murder daddy dave!

here are a few more reads that i love/generally live in my brain as i write:

dorian gray is one of my favourites and just so wilde at its core: the importance of being earnest is a play of wilde's that i truly love (and it's fucking hilarious too!). i would honestly recommend anything from the era of the aesthetes, decadents, and the new woman in the late-19th century. it's one of my favourite areas of literature to explore just because of how rich it is. arthur machen, vernon lee, ella hepworth dixon, etc. are all so fascinating to read, and FUN, too!! plus, flipping through volumes of the yellow book and the savoy is such a great experience; they've digitized all the editions of the yellow book, so you can read anywhere! i think aestheticism and decadence inspire a lot of how i write, and they're some of the most interesting literary and cultural revolutions of all time (in my opinion!).

i am a dracula (bram stoker) lover, i must say. vampires are sooo romantic. i adore this novel. the same goes for interview with the vampire by anne rice!!

the haunting of hill house and we have always lived in the castle are some of the best classics in the world if you ask me - i just love shirley jackson so much.

I just got the good ending on Hades I think. I still have to discover all teeny tiny corners of the story, but I really enjoyed it Spoilers ahead!

Oh my god. Family reunion???? Persephone girlbossing Hades around? Hades apologizing??? Did I just witness Zag laugh for the first time (fangirling intensifies)??? Peak fiction I SWEAR Persephone’s easily one of my fav characters after that final cutscene. YOU GO GIRL TELLL HIIMMM lmao The bond between Persephone and Zagreus is so damn wholesome. Theyre both so kind and sweet to each other I love it.

What I also love is the resolve not being some lovey-dovey fantasy. Things are still sore between the three of them, but the gates have been opened up for some healing and growing back together. Really good stuff!

Also loved to see Hades softening up and actually apologizing to the both of them :O This was a sincere and truthful apology too. What's also impressive to me is the depth the characters have. I see a LOT of mostly uncommunicated/only implied stuff happening that still affects the character's decisions. There’s a whole web to explore and we’re being fed tiny bits!

Persephone ran away because she felt like she didn't belong. Her son as he grew up without her knowledge was trying to run away just like she once was, feeling out of place. When Zagreus found out about her and eventually found her, reaching her trying to catch up to all those years they lost, gave him a reason to fight, a purpose.

As Zagreus is attempting to figure out how to mend things and realized that his father still acts to protect her (which can only mean one thing), he eventually told Persephone that her and father belong back together. This must have struck a chord in her, as Zagreus’ determination (or maybe I should call it despair) to mend a broken family perhaps reminded her of herself. Now with her knowing that her son is in fact alive and well, has proven himself to be kindhearted, emotionally intelligent and stubborn; and also is fighting hordes of undead shades just to see her for a few minutes before being forced back to the House of Hades... there was indeed a sense of belonging she could have--or at the very least, create. She probably realized that it wasn’t just Hades that needed her. Her son needed her as well. Really really badly.

I’m getting teary-eyed just thinking of how anyone goes through so much struggle and pain just to see their mother for a few moments. So she eventually decided to return. It's interesting considering the sheer determination Zagreus had when he told her that they NEED to get back together since they were family. Zagreus certainly has his priorities, heart and values in the right place, much like Persephone herself. She must have realized that as well. It lead to her "sudden" and determined decision to go back to the underworld, that even Zag was taken aback.

Like mother like son.

Semi-Attainable

Agatha Trunchbull, Matilda: traditionally played by a male, (a thing I’m not very fond of, but don’t get me started lol) but her songs are right in my chest/belt range, and I enjoy terrorizing children, so.

Jennifer Honey, Matilda: so sweet. so kind. love her to pieces. Also sings right in my mix/head range. Mayzie LaBird, Seussical: despite it being the show everyone does in middle/high school, I’ve never been in it? but I saw a friend play Mayzie when I was little and immediately fell in love. diva icon istg

Mortica Addams, The Addams Family: now we’re talking bb!! i did a school production of the Addams Family a while ago and got cast as Alice. it was a lot of fun, but I think I’d fair callbacks better a second time around, now that I’ve had more proper training. Katherine Plumber: in my top 3 dream roles of all time. her music matches pretty well with my voice, her snark is so fun to read for, and also i can tap. i think if I picked a good audition song I’d have a solid shot.

9. If your OC were to imagine their idyllic life (realistically or otherwise) what would it be like?

It definitely depends on the time period in Radek's life. When she was still with Phillip (pre-Caleb death) she definitely pictured them getting "married" (whatever that means) and then having sort of a hades-persephone deal where she would spend half the year in her home, the demon realm, and the other half in the human realm, and Phillip was free to move between the realms with her or not. I think if you asked her at the current point in the show (s3), however, her ideal would definitely just be having a nice house with Hunter in the demon realm where she can raise him and have him go to school and just have a normal life. probably a similar situation where she can visit the human realm whenever to see Camila. It wouldn't entirely be normal pretty much no matter what just because Radek is a little weird from the immortality and DEFINITELY still healing, but I think she'd do her best, especially for Hunter, who is like, the pride and joy of her life atm.

20. What was the moment at which they knew they were in love, or was it a slow buildup?

Oh good lord. Well.

With Phillip, it was a slow build. She initially just found this random human guy passed out in the forest and decided it'd be REALLY FUNNY to fuck with him. Prime mischief mode activated. She was like, 19, and dumb as fuck. Then suddenly they started hanging out more and the teasing got a little less (derogatory) and a little more (affectionate). Phillip was never scared of her like he was the other witches, namely because Radek never actually did anything dangerous to him. Not that Evelyn did either, but he has his ideas. It sort of culminated into a slow realization when they would spend more and more time together, and then eventually Phillip presented his cross to her as a gift of his affections. Radek was very happy to take it. They kissed that night & Phillip never knew peace since.

With Camila, it was completely different. Radek was depressed, a little bit nutz from Belos dying, and also incapable of feeling any joy. But Camila slowly kind of coaxed hir out of the depression hole in the house and lured her into spending time with her in the living room. Radek didn't really think anything of it other than Camila being really hospitable, until they were falling asleep one night and recognized that pain in their chest a little too much and went. Oh no.

21. What was it about their significant other that made them fall in love with them? Was it a single eye-opening experience or many gestures over time?

With Phillip, I think first and foremost it was just the fact he was funny. Then Radek saw he was diligent, if a bit stubborn, as well as charming and sweet. He somehow always knew what to say to cheer them up and he was easy to communicate with. Not to mention he liked her! Which is an attractive trait all in of itself. Plus he wrote really cheesy love letters and would draw them sometimes, so he wasn't without talent. Pathetic little guy Radek wanted to hold, you know?

As for Camila, it was definitely just how kind and understanding she was. It was the same young-firey-impassioned sort of love but the delicate care that Radek needs. Patience. Camila was especially willing to take things slow which both of them needed. I do think it was a little moment where both of them were cooking together and Radek saw Camila humming while she was at a burner and was like. Oh my gd shes perfect. and then Camila saw Radek cooking and went oh my gd hes perfect. Very funny, very sweet.

23. What sort of routines, rituals or rules do they have or set for themselves?

Radek learned the hard way they have to wash the right side of their face and replace the eyepatch everyday. Eventually they sew the eye shut again but Camila has to do it for them. It still leaks every once in a while so they use those cleansing wipes and it seems to work. It hurts really bad though, so they've been trying to concoct some sort of numbing cream for that skin on their face.

Other than that Hunter has constructed an intricate routine where he wakes up Radek at 9 in the morning just to hug her and then they read together until everyone wakes up. (Sometimes Radek goes back to sleep.)

Lola i am about to write you a novel i am so sorry

for anyone curious this is a bout the book "a touch of darkness" okay so! i have to start with the fact that this was a book bought for me for my birthday and was very much a shot in the dark on if i'd like it or not. and this is all going to be very rambly because i'm really not sure why i'm still reading it 😂

it's a retelling of the hades & persephone myth but it's like a ✨spicy✨ retelling. so look i love some good smut but i'm not a big romance or smut book reader, it's just usually not my jam or something i'm drawn to outside of fanfic. i adore greek mythology which is why the book was bought for me, with the biggest worry being "is the retelling going to be good enough for my dear darling wife who admittedly is sometimes too critical of retellings". My sweet darling beloved husband also did not realize this was a smutty book he was buying which actually is the funniest part of this entire story to me.

at the time of writing this i'm about 50% done the book. now the way this author has gone about doing the actual retelling or reworking of the myth is just, in my opinion, not great. however it really reads like maybe they had this other story and just slapped some greek mythology characters onto the book. the story very much feels like they wanted to write that kinda 'billionaire, possessive, enemies to lover' type story which again just not my usual type of story but hey it's good to give things a chance. also persephone, who this particular book really places the focus on, is just really fucking stupid

the smut is also just not really smutting to put it in the worst possible wording i can. there's like hints of it but nothing has really happened. perhaps i am just impatient but also there's been moments where there's definitely build up and then it doesn't go far and just ends very abruptly.

honestly it feels like maybe the book would have been better if it was not meant to be smutty at all, or there was more commitment to the smut. it almost feels jarring, like i'm being pulled out of one type of story and i'm being plopped into another type of story.

now with all of that i'm sure you're still wondering why is she reading this she has many a complaint. and i really wish i had a firm answer here because i wouldn't be so confused myself. here are some thoughts on why i think i have continued to read it despite all of the above

like sometimes things are objectively bad but they're fun and so it's still enjoyable and while it may not be a super enjoyable book it's also not unenjoyable, it's kind of a middle ground i guess. at no point have i been reading and felt "this is so atrocious that it's a waste of time to read it". so while i don't find it's very good i also don't think it's bad enough to just stop reading. ya know what i mean?

i am also genuinely curious to see where this author takes the myth. i don't necessarily think it's a great retelling or rework of the myth but i am so curious to see where she takes it, at least for this book because i don't see myself reading the rest of the series. that's part of the fun in reading retellings is seeing how things are changed and while i don't love the current choices i've seen the authot has in fact piqued my interest enough to see where things go, or at the very least where this book ends in terms of the myth.

it's also a pretty quick read so it doesn't feel like it's draining or taking more mental energy than its worth to read it. and hey why not try to just finish a book in a genre you never would have bought yourself

anyway i don't know if any of this makes any sense or really explains why i'm reading it. i guess there's just parts of the story i am somewhat interested in but as a whole im just not really liking it. if i had to rate it right now i'd say it's like a 2/5 so not the worst but also not good.

Didn't think too much of the "human" when they popped out of the portal. Sure they had a straw hat and a huge basket full of produce but it wasn’t like they were… Wait… No… Were they…?

Oh no. Oh nonononono, this is not good…!!

Demeter is notoriously doting and protective of her children (see her freakout and breakdown after Hades abducted of Persephone as proof) and they've pretty much done the EXACT. SAME. THING. here!!

It was a mad scramble by him and Diavolo to contact and appease their godly Mother Bear before she came roaring down to Devildom herself to turn them all into barley. Thankfully, Zeus must have intervened at some point because though she was indeed PISSED, she didn't threaten to barge in… yet.

She made one thing very clear. Bend so much as a single hair on her precious child's head and there would be WAR…

The MC received a 24 hour security detail after that. Just Mammon wasn't going to cut it, he needed NO chances. It was a full rotation of Mammon, him and Beel for the entirety of their stay (Asmo and Levi both threw hissy fits at the prospect of babysitting, Satan couldn’t be trusted not to kill them just to irritate him, and Belphie was out for… obvious reasons).

In some ways, it wasn’t so bad. The MC was a very mild sort of person, rather even tempered. He’d dare say they were pleasant, mostly content to just tend to their gardens and be out in the moonlight…

But the problem was, he just could not convince them to stay OUT of nature. Including the forests, which were full of hellish beasts fully intent on gnawing their flesh from their bones… and their specialty was plants, not animals, sooo…

Their habit of sneaking out to wander the woods got so bad that he very nearly considered pulling a Belphie 2 and locking them in the basement for their own good. But Devil knows what damage their mother would do if she found out…

At least they make for pleasant company… And Diavolo seems to like them quite a bit himself so the mortal gets a pass from him. Now if they’d only consider their own safety for a change…

Mammon

They make him a KILLING.

Like, no seriously. Their produce is insane!! He’s never tasted food so good, especially stuff that’s come fresh from the ground! It only took a few berries for Mammon to throw on a straw hat himself and start harvesting! He’s a farmer now, baby!!

Weeellll not quite. He’s still absolutely only in it for the money, but anything he brings to a farmer’s market goes so fast that he can hardly care about the labor! He’s never made this much Grimm in his life!! And it’s totally legit for a change!

He bought himself another car, paid off half of his debt, and even got Levi back that 2 or 3 grand he leant him centuries ago. Really, Mammon’s living his best life and it’s all thanks to MC!

It’s a good thing his blatant grifting doesn’t hurt his relationship with them at all, in fact they seem to enjoy having his help regardless. They bring him drinks on hot days or invite him on picnics and stuff, it’s… it’s really sweet. They’re very nice to him and he appreciates it…

But… COULD YA JUST STAY PUT ALREADY???

It drives him INSANE that they won’t stay out of dangerous places!! After he started caring about them for more than just a meal ticket it only got even worse!!

He’s not usually one for monitoring someone’s every move (that kind of control freak behavior is more a Lucifer thing) but he eventually had to set up familiars around the House just to keep them from sneaking out at night...

What was so interesting out there anyway?? There wasn’t any kind of plant that he could bring them himself! They didn’t have any need to be out there!!

They’d keep telling him they’d be fine but it’s not like he’s going to actually buy that. They were too… nice to be dangerous or anything so why would he believe them?

No more running off, MC! Please, he’s beggin’ ya!!

Leviathan

Wait, gardening? Like, being outdoors and stuff? Ew. No thanks, he’ll pass.

That was more or less his first reaction when they showed up and it never really got much better than that…

He admits that they’re friendly and it’s not like he dislikes them or anything, but their thing so far from his thing that they just don’t have a lot in common… you know?

For starters, they get So. Antsy. when they’re inside for too long! He tried to invite them to a marathon once, but they could hardly keep still and kept looking around like they were searching for a window… He said, “to jump out of.” They insisted just for some fresh air, but he didn’t buy it...

They’re nice enough to listen to his rants, but they’re barely ever inside for him to do so and like HELL is he going to leave his room and stand around out there for that long. Ranting is at least a one to two hour engagement! What if he gets hot out there? And have you SEEN Devildom bees?? Hell no!!

He has, however, asked them on multiple occasions to reproduce flowers he’s seen in different anime, especially ones that have a very unique look and they’ve done some real wonders with that!

He can now claim to be the only person to ever own a Ruby-Jade Vine plant, straight from the pages of TSL when it was used to brew tea for the Lord of Lechery during his brief illness and-is anyone even still listening anymore?

The point is, it’s a flower so rare it was imaginary but now HE has it!... or had it for about a week until his utter incompetence of all things plant killed it…

He begged the MC for another but they were out of the plants they needed to make it and would have to go back to the human world to find more… He’s still mourning his loss… Poor Henry 4.0…

Satan

Well… He’s called this MC “salt of the Earth” and he does truly mean it. Take of that what you will.

He doesn’t get much in the way of intellectual conversation out of this mortal UNLESS he’s talking about plants, farming, or botany… Interesting topics and complex in their own right to be sure, but that’s pretty much their wheelhouse and they like it there.

That being said, the feats that they can perform are genuinely mind-blowing! They are the ONLY person he has ever met who can cultivate the Devildom’s own ultra-rare Phantom Orchid, a plant only blooms when it reaches a perfect state of undeath (i.e. both taken care of and neglected just enough so that it's only barely alive. The balance is so tricky to master that one hasn’t bloomed down there for centuries!)

There’s also something just genuinely relaxing about watching them work or helping them in the gardens… More so than he’d ever expected from such a simple activity.

He admits that he’s taken quite a few strolls through the flower-filled courtyard of the Demon Lord’s Castle just to admire its beauty... But anything that they can grow just blows all of that out of the water!

They even taught him several magic botanical techniques so now he can grow some pretty mad plants himself. Lucifer never expected to find that giant Venus Flytrap in his closet, but one was there regardless. 😏

Just… out of curiosity one day, he asked the MC if they could make him a new kind of catnip. Not for any nefarious reason! You know… just for research purposes…

The nip they made was so effective that the House grounds were FILLED with nipped-up cats for a whole month! He was in Heaven!! (and Lucifer practically wiped those plants from existence so he couldn’t get any more… asshole...)

That must have inspired them because they apparently made a demons-only version that they told him about WELL after the fact. Had he known, he probably would have burned the stuff on principle... Do you know how dangerous demon-nip could be to them? Experiment responsibly, MC!

Asmodeus

Ehhhh, gardening SOUNDS like one of those things that should be super Devilgram-able, but then you realize how sweaty and dirty you get in the process and it’s a huge turn off… Sorry MC.

When they first came down to the Devildom, he thought two things: 1) Such a sweet little flower child, as adorable as they were, would never survive; and 2) even if they could, he would never ever see eye-to-eye with them on the “wonders” of getting all up in the dirt.

Well, he was right about 2, but certainly not 1. Personally, he thinks his brothers worry about them too much, they ARE still a demigod.

At one point he saw a pack of hellhounds almost trample one of their vegetable gardens and they lost it. Word to the wise, never try to take on a child of Demeter in their own garden. Those hounds were wrapped up in rose vines before they could even yelp...

Yeah, the MC would be fine.

That being said, while everybody else clamors over their produce, he thinks that their flowers are really where it’s at!

Taking just five minutes in one of their gardens is something else... He’s never seen blossoms as healthy and immaculate in all the Devildom before! Their beauty could (almost) rivals his own! What they do isn’t just a hobby, it’s an art.

He’s taken multiple pictures with their blossoms and they go viral every time. It’s so rare to actually see gorgeous, petal-filled flowers in the Devildom, most of the native plants are of the man-eating variety.

His only complaint about this MC is that they seem to feel much more at home in work clothes and dirt than they do in any sort of party-look he tries to give them… Cute as they are, they can afford to gussy up sometimes can’t they? Mud and grass stains don’t make for a good look, sorry.

Beelzebub

Beel gardens and the MC gardens as well. Add on that they seem to be able to grow all manner of fruits and veggies and he likes this one. A lot.

They had just finished apple-picking when the portal nabbed them so they had a massive basket of apples at the time. Naturally, Beel more or less stole the thing on sight, but the apples inside were so juicy and good that he almost shook them down for more on the spot!

Imagine his surprise when they, half pleadingly, explained to him that if he got them some seeds they could just grow more… and it wouldn’t even take that long.

To be clear, the formula he saw was this: Get seeds > bring seeds to mortal > mortal grows seeds > mortal makes endless supply of food….

Congratulations MC, you’ve now earned the sixthborn’s eternal loyalty after a grand total of… two minutes. He didn’t even know their name, but he was willing to take a bullet for them (provided he got more of those apples).

The next several months were spent with Beel attached to them to the hip in some way, but honestly? It was just so wholesome anyway…

If he’s helping in the garden, he never complains. He does most of the heavy lifting and actually likes being out there with them (unlike others...)

Many afternoons were spent sitting under fruit trees and talking. Sometimes, they go to the trouble of preparing a picnic or something but it would always inevitably end with Beel plucking the whole tree clean of whatever ripe (or unripe) fruit he can get his hands on with a smile.

The MC never minded though. That’s just another excuse to grow more, right?

His only problem was when the MC would sneak out to the forest… especially when they get too antsy and just go alone.

He HATES it when they do that! How is he supposed to keep them safe if they just wander off?? He knows that they have a special connection to nature and all, but it isn’t safe…

He’s flown in and scooped them back up to the House on numerous occasions and his “talking tos” get sterner after every rescue... Please stay put, MC! He’d have so many reasons to be sad if you were eaten… 😔

Belphegor

Okay, he was looking for a capable, if not gullible, human. Not a shoeless flower hippy!

He honestly wasn't expecting much out of this one... Damn their little heart because they did genuinely believed his lies, it’s just that they weren't… well… They were really good at gardening.

… And it grew kind of hard to keep hating them whenever they'd show up just to give him fresh berries or a bouquet to see him smile… He may claim that his heart is made of nightmares and orphan tears, but who doesn’t enjoy being given a batch of flowers?

Damn their sweetness too… Right to here.

When it came time to kill them he had a heavier heart than he thought he would, but kind of saw it like putting down the sacrificial lamb. Gotta be done to reach better goals... Stiff upper lip and all that.

Unfortunately for him, they had taken to carrying packets of demon-nip with them as a self-defense measure…

He wasn’t exactly sure what he expected when they shouted “Get nipped!” at him mid-attack, but it wasn’t a face full of some smelly herb! Like, really smelly…! Actually, that smelt kind of good… Hold on.

Turns out murderous rage really doesn’t last long after you get what is effectively ultra-strong catnip thrown in your face. They ended up having to go and tell Lucifer what happened themselves because Belphie was way too blissed out on the floor to do anything... They were legitimately worried they might have fried his brain...

He’s told the effects of the demon-nip lasted three days. He doesn’t know, because he hardly remembers any of it... They described him as like he was high on “weed” and “ecstasy” at the same time but he doesn’t know what either of those are either so it wasn’t helpful…

Truthfully, they were so nice to him while he was recovering that he couldn’t even be mad afterwards so all's well that ends well? Either way, he’s sleeping under their orchard trees from now on. It’s peaceful out there...

They burnt all that nip though. It’s some strong stuff...
