Invitation to talk about Sayuri and Nymie?

:D CAN OF WORMS: OPENED!! i'll tell u abt how they got found as Jedi

ok so Sayuri is one of the students that doesn't rlly go home bc there isn't much to go back to. Basically her parents were Rebellion pilots (or one was a pilot the other a mechanic. kinda unsure) but were both killed in action against the Empire abt 3-4ABY ish. obvs the Rebellion couldn't look after a 7-8yo while fighting the Empire

so the remainder of the squad manage to get her back to her parents' home village/ where she was born. so having like Everything change all at once leaves her pretty ?? and gives her some serious trusting-her-environment issues. her coolgirl "i dont care" persona is very much a result of this bc she's worried abt getting too comfy in smthn. (which is at odds w the OTHER issue she got from this event which is "deathly afraid of flying" an issue not helped if Master "traffic laws are just guidelines" Skywalker is piloting. but she tries 2 act like shes fine)

anyway fast forwarding to when Sayuri's abt 13 (roughly 9aby) she's visiting her parent's old squadron on a New Republic bc they'd all come visit whenever she could and after the Empire's fall they did a lot more pick her up and fly her to a base to ALL see her. and they're like omg Sayuri you came at the PERFECT time bc this rlly amazing pilot war hero who's also some like. mystical whatever is here!! he's on his way to some magic place we heard. maybe u can meet him!! which sayuri meets w her usual whatever bc she's not that gassed abt war heroes.

very worth noting that the squad's probably all seen her move shit with her mind, but theyre like oh you know how it is with teenage girls. the "nobody knows what a jedi is" + "the empire existed for a decent bit of her childhood" thing has kept anyone from being like yeahh sayuri should like. talk to someone abt this.

anyway she goes along when the squad are like c'mon let's see if we can see him. ok the only way i can describe this is you know the spiderverse like... spidey-sense recognition thing? that's basically what happens LOL Luke and Sayuri both have a FORCE USER RECOGNISED?? moment and Luke then makes a beeline for her then realises oh shit tiny teenager not jedi. would you LIKE to be a jedi?? and sayuri who hates her village and is feeling the strongest emotional connection she's felt in forever w this stranger she met 2 seconds ago is like okay fuckin sure yeah. and woo jedi!!

So Sayuri falls into the "one of the Jedi found them thru the force or by chance" category of students who get found. However Nymie very much falls into the second category, which is "CAN SOMEONE DEAL WITH THIS WEIRD SUPERPOWERED CHILD FOR US????"

So 2 things about Nymie: 1. like i've said before, she's from a very rich high class pantoran family. super stuck up, mostly raised by nannies & tutors, but somehow Nymie just didn't get the stuck-up genes like all her (4!!) siblings who are just obsessed w their social standing etc and is instead just :D all the time. 2. her proficiency ig is the living force esp in the 'good at connecting to animals' way (which I think means I legally need to draw her w Ezra).

so the former often led her to escaping her family's stuffy parties and galas or whatever (usually to whoever's house it is' garden or somewhere she wasnt meant to be) to find something interesting. usually a pet <3 one particular time when she was 9 she was following her Pet Sense but couldnt find anything in the house. so she kinda just reached out more and long story short thats how Nymie managed to call this hugemassive beast (i'd tell u what it was if i knew pantoran animals LOL) out of the nearby countryside to her. massively distressing for everyone, all these rich ppl were like "OH MY GOD I NEARLY DIED" (it didnt attack anyone). very funny exciting time for Nymie who was enjoying this new beastie friend til animal control showed up. saddening. everyone is confused bc HOW did that happen

a dude old (and cool) enough to have seen more than one jedi in their heyday (+ idk uni researcher knows his shit) noticed what happened w it going straight to Nymie and overheard her account and realised what happened and was like hi nymie's parents. i think u need to get into contact w the new republic bc thats a jedi right there (which they take and go oo social climbing. we have a jedi child people will think we're cooler. bc theyre assholes)

and yeah im losing steam now but luke shows up and she joins the academyyay!

Can you give me advices for how to draw cats and how to draw their bodies?

I'm not the best at explaining but I'll try to explain a little how I started to understand and modify the cat anatomy to fit my style

To begin with, let's take a cat skeleton to understand its structures and how they work

It is important that you circle or just point out the main movement points, other parts that only serve to locate main body parts (skull) is also important, u dont rlly have to do this everytime, but i do this a lot when im studying anatomy or just want to figure out a pose.

wahh, what about a classic thing? use references. a lot of them. trace them over and over again, figure out the shape and draw them with a reference after that, do whatever u want. u can and should play around with references.

now when u have some experience with cat anatomy u can start playing around with shapes! woah thats fun right?? right???? this is not a good guide, it's pure junk actually, This guide does not show how shapes generally appear in the character's personality, so just consider it as a "drawing guide"

i play around with faces a bit more than with bodies, i loveee to just shape the head and than never think about the body every again, I think it's more important to focus on the face shape where it expresses emotions than on the body, but that's just me

a little eye guide, they're pretty simple all the way, i would recommend to look at other ppls art to see how they draw eyes, it's a good exercise + eyebrows; i do whatever i want with those, any shape works

aaaaand a bit of rambling. that's pretty much it, u can ask for specifics if ya want, like a properly drawing guide lol

HI UM i really admire you and your art and i was wondering --

so i really love the way you format your comics, its really straight-forward and lets the reader process every word with ease (which i think adds to the impact of the writing), and that one rue comic with the split colors for the parentheses... how do you do it without making it look so messy?? to bring up another example, the hide-and-seek comic- i love how subtle and genius the call back to hiding behind the door was, it blew my mind... i take a lot of inspiration from the way you format and lay out your comics but for some reason i cant wrap my head around how you do so much with so little (in reality this might just be the result of me wanting to add so many little details for others to find , while being conflicted on keeping it simple, and,,, AGH...) for context : im trying to make a comic about isolation, but i keep filling up the page because i want to add things - when really i know i should be keeping it simple... but other than removing unnecessary details, i want to know what else you do to make your comics so clean and simple yet it rips out the emotions from your heart and has you stare at it as it beats. like... i want that type of impact!! i want to affect others on such an intense level!! i want to induce emotions!!! but how?

(sorry this was long, HAHAHA i just want to drive my point home- again with the 'wanting to add a lot of stuff to prove a point' thing but i digress)

ok first of all that is a huge compliment and it means v much to me, thank you 😭🙏❤️❤️

tbh for me the answer of keeping things uncluttered is paying attention to spacing and eye direction. Spacing depends on timing, if you want an action to happen slowly for instance you can make the space between panels longer, or take more panels for someone to complete an action. There's tricks for directing your eye, if you ever read anyth about focal points (eg biggest contrast, triangular shapes pointing towards what's important), but really with comics I keep in mind you're reading left to right and top to bottom.

The ruehob comic is actually simpler than you think 😅 I already knew which text had to be on the left and right with august's text post. And after that the "lanes" were so narrow there weren't a lot of complicated things I could do, just make sure you still read left to right and saunter vaguely downwards.

when you talk about putting little details, that doesn't necessarily have to distract people. Like I honestly applaud you having the drive to do detailing. You just have to make sure your compositions allow for it. Like if you think about ghibli backgrounds, they're elaborate and beautiful af.

For smth about isolation, my first thought was that you can draw a person in a setting alone among a bunch of objects, for instance. If you keep the person small but surround them with a bunch of detailed objects, it could feel very lonely. Just make sure the person still stands out b/c they're what's important, so for example the background stuff is a less saturated colour, or the person is the least detailed thing on the page. I think that's the main thing, you just have to make sure the things important to what you're saying stand out. Clarity is rlly half the battle when I'm laying things out haha

In school our teacher called this "killing your babies" because it sucks when you work hard on a cool drawing and it just doesn't work out😂This also still happens to me, it's actually partly why I keep things simple so I can work fast and throw out less

He's got other stuff that talks about manga and how eye direction can work and what cool stuff has been done. Off the top of my head his vid about one piece and his vid about gantz have helped me understand how to cause Emotions. Also I think he has one about Junji Ito that specifically talks about how details can make you scared, if you're into that 😂

thoughts running a marathon in my head as i get home from minho(e)'s party. my glitter still hangin' and my mascara is intact but i still feel a heavy weight on my heart as i start to take it off completely. how pathetic can one be? to see the boy you like for so long, talking to another guy/girl and feeling that immediate weight on your shoulders, those bad thoughts crawling back and that heavy heart that won't be fixed with nothing but a confession. minho(e) is gonna kill me for leaving but i did not care, i needed to be alone in my room with my anxiety & emotions like a tsunami in me.

i knew i wasn't the perfect candidate but i always had hope we would be something more. when i first got introduced to him, i fell so hard, it hit me like a wave and i just had to be friends with him at least. now movin' on two years later and i'm still hanging on a crush (that's clearly not a crush anymore) and on a friendship (that i wanted it to be more) and all of my friends saying "you should just tell him!" (ehem, minhoe, ehem) but it's not that easy isn't it?. as i looked at myself once again in the mirror i realized that i was nothing like the guys/girls he used to have a crush on and i have so many flaws. this is where chan comes in and tells me "everyone has flaws" but if i hear that speech one more time, i might kick his ass back to australia. 

i wasn't crying this time, just staring at the ceiling and waiting for the messages of "where are u" to pop up. first one from minho(e) obviously, then binnie, then chan and lastly jisung. god he didn't even know how much a message from him turns my world around and my attention just draws back to him. but then i remember that pretty guy/girl he was chatting with, their long hair, their flirting...

oh god, my worst nightmare was about to come true. i will have the impulse to confess and this night is gonna end more terribly than it already has. i debated whether i should pretend i was sick but i could never do that, they always see right through me so i just responded "sure" and tried to dress presentable. if i knew i was seeing him again i wouldn't have taken off my makeup but barefaced it is. it didn't take him too long since i wasn't that far from minho(e)'s house and i left the door opened. there he was in all of his glory with his beautiful squishy cheeks and his hair getting blonder day by day. i'm not drunk, just hopelessly in love with an idiot. which reminds me, why is he here? why isn't he with that guy/girl i saw him earlier? oh god if i ruined his chances of getting laid he will kill me.

"(y/n) hi." ok this is odd, he never calls me by full name but i'm gonna play along.

"han jisung what do i owe you the pleasure to?" i ask as i look at him from the living room. i didn't even bother to move since he opened the door himself and i was just too fucking broken over stupid shit to care anymore. "thought you would stay longer at the party."

"i got bored without you there." he said and i could tell he was being honest, his eyes never lie as he moved next to me and sat down on the couch. "i thought you would stay longer too but you didn't even tell anyone you were going."

yeah that was a bad move on me, one message would've been enough but when you get so fucking lost in sadness, you don't really care do you?

"i know, i'm sorry about that." i pouted and he just shook his head as he gave me that little smile of his. god i was so head over heels for this idiot and i don't know how much longer i'm gonna last with these feelings until i burst. "you shouldn't have left though."

"why not?" he asked and i could feel his hand on my thigh as he looked at me puzzled. i immediately blushed at the sensation and just didn't know what to say but i found a way to send my words out.

"i just thought you were having fun like chan, minho(e) and bin." i said and i wasn't wrong to think that. he walked in with the person and stayed with them most of the night. god what if it was his significant other? and i was just being an asshole? panicking is the only thing i know how to do. 

"me? not at all, just spent the whole night trying to think how to approach you and failing." ok that was also weird, why would he need to think how to talk to me? we've been friends for 2 years. "i'm sorry i didn't, i'm just a coward at the end of the day."

"what do you mean? you're not sung and definitely don't need to think of ways of approaching me, we're friends right?" i ask and he sighs, i felt like i said the wrong words immediately. i want to get inside his head just to see what he's thinking so much about, i wanna know what he's feeling and what he's saying, especially since i seem to not be getting anything at all.

"that's the problem, god how the fuck do i say this? i'm the worst with words." well that's also a lie since he's the best freestyle rapper i know (don't tell bin) and somehow he's more nervous than i am about this situation. i felt more calm in his presence which is something he always tend to drive me to. i love talking to him because it feels easy and like nothing's gonna bother me anymore when i'm with him. "can i do something? you can punch me in the face later but please just once".

"you can do anything sungie and i wouldn't punch you ever." i said and his trembling hand found it's way to my cheek, caressing it softly. i felt like i could melt right then and there as he just closed his eyes and i did the same, feeling a pair of my lips fitting right in with mine, it wasn't the perfect kiss but it was definitely more than perfection to me. it didn't get heated and it wasn't just a peck but it was so beautiful that i had to make it last. that's when all the doubts went away and i truly felt like i was floating. 

as we split away, i could only feel my hand on my lips as i looked at him and he just smiled again. his full on smile made me blush crimson red as i tried to hide from him but he just took my hands away from my face and whispered softly.

"i am so in love with you since i first met you".

i felt everything come into place just with those words as i responded.

"i've been dying to hear that since i first saw you."

Powers

youd never guess. but when i first watched through LMK i didnt care for Nezha. not rlly. I always thought he was cool and had a nice design but I didnt really care much for him. But i ALWAYS thought his powers and abilitys were so cool. maybe its my bias for pink characters and powers (i also have a bias for blue) but when i needed a character to do some fighting in my fic i snatched Nezha. and ever since i started writing him i couldnt stop. So honestly i gotta put his cool lookin powers as #1 since its what initially hooked me onto his character. both canon and other power HC's i have.

2. His personality PSA: Im not saying any of this is canon. these are my headcanons.

I love canon Nezha dont get me wrong, but im a little biased to my headcanons. well- more then a little XP. I ADORE sassy traumatized fucked up little guys. LMK Nezha is already sassy as hell, as he should be. he's soooooo traumatized if you read into his mythology. and he's also so POWERFUL.

it's just something about characters who are mainly known for being powerful and unstoppable. a force to be reckoned with. but eventually it's revealed this 'unstopable persona' is actually just a mask they've built. They are no doubt very powerful. but one of the reasons people are so scared of them is bc they've built the reputation so no one hurts them anymore. Nearly always on the defensive and holding their emotions inside so thy don't get hurt anymore. But like we saw in the s3 special with MK can still be gentle and kind.

not only that, but needs that kind of kindness and acceptance in his life. Needs a family that will accept all aspects of him. The good and the bad.

TS Nezha is a hurt kid. Traumatized and honestly kinda lonely. Because there's very few people that know the real him. Even if he trusts other people, there's no guarantee that they will accept the real him without the mask he's created. Kin moment.

that and the fact its very easy to shove him into a found family.

3. His white hair.

My favorite lore bit about Nezha is not something a lot of people know about him. In the translation of Investiture of the Gods I own it says he was born with white hair.

4. His Design Theres a reason ive only minorly changed his design in my headcanons. Overall i ADORE it. Again im probably biased because of all the pink but I love characters like him. He's got some traditionaly feminine design choices. at least traditionally in the west (Pink, Long hair, the bottom of his armor looks like a skirt). It's very gender. and he's just cute overall. his design is so much fun to draw and my version is even more fun.

Honestly. The guys got my gender. Masc, but confident in wearing some feminine things. He just seems like the kind of guy who'd like wearing dresses and keeping his hair long, but still masc nonetheless. Breaking gender norms as he should.

5. His dynamics with other characters.

I love writing him interacting with other characters. He just clashes so well with the other characters when i write him in my AU's. both positively and negatively. I love writing him in angst, i love writing him in fluff. I just. love putting this guy into situations XD.

his relationship with his found family in tangled star is SO MUCH FUN to write. traumatized little guy who trusts no one but the people he's closest with. and even they are still getting him to open up.

The infamous Adeptus Xiao. Cold and stoic, strong and virtuous. Kind wasn't at the top of very many people's lists when it came to describing him. But to you, he's a worrywart that doesn't like to show it. He cares for the people of Liyue and even mulls over the health of the elderly at night when he's supposed to be resting. He's the cutest, you think.

After clearing out some demons, he feels your overbearing presence behind him and turns around, eyes wide. He sees you running towards him with a wide smile on your face and holding something out in front of you and becomes slightly frightened at the thought of having to deal with your antics out in the open. Don't get him wrong, he doesn't mind being seen with you. However, he does mind having others see his resolve being broken down by a singular person so easily. His face remains cold, and he's gone in a flash, leaving you to pause your excited stride, a plate of almond tofu in hand.

Your shoulders drop in disappointment, and you sigh, turning around to head back to the Wangshu Inn. You should just have waited for him there.

Your heavy, pouting footsteps quickly turn back into the light and excited ones as you near the inn.

"Xiao!" You called, bursting into the room. It was weird how there were no doors in this place, you'd assume he'd like some privacy. But at the same time, the people here know him and understand to keep their distance.

He was already looking out of the balcony, waiting for you with his arms crossed. You smiled mischievously and set down the plate of almond tofu on a table.

"Hungry?" You asked, creeping over to him slowly. You craned your neck from side to side to try and get a better view as you moved closer.

He said nothing. You inched closer and leaned forward to look at his face. It was bright red, and he was having a terrible time trying to keep a straight face. Weird, you hadn't done anything yet.

"Xiaoooo~?" You asked, drawing out his name as you poked him in the arm. He glanced at you and then looked away, pretending like his face wasn't currently the prettiest shade of pink you'd ever seen. You didn't push it further; you knew he'd probably give you the cold shoulder if you teased him too much.

"Won't you eat the food? It's gonna get warm..." You mumbled, glancing over to the table you'd set it on. The way the light poured in through the balcony made this place feel rather homely.

You watch as he stubbornly drags himself over to the table, like it's the hardest thing he's ever done, and sits down. He sighs. The sigh holds no weight. No disappointment, no heavy emotions, like it usually would. You smile as he starts to shovel the food into his mouth.

When he's around others, he acts cold and disconnected. It makes you happy that at least around you he can act childish, get annoyed, and sometimes smile. Despite still trying to pretend to be some emotionless pillar, he can't seem to hold up the facade around you.

"I love you, Xiao." You say, not having moved from your spot on the balcony. He pauses his eating to glare up at you, and you simply flash him a smile.

When you go out, he will hide. But when it's just the two of you, he wears his own face. His emotions were on display, with no mask in sight.

He lets you have a bite.

6. favorite thing to draw?

When drawing ganqing: hair (always fluffing it up and adding strange triangular streaks to keqing's hair that make zero sense lol), faces, and ganyu's horns. But honestly arms and hands too, because the gestures can express a lot imo. For all the lamenting over anatomy and how strange and hard it is, i think i've improved enough over time to generally just enjoy drawing the whole body of a character.

When drawing creatures: heavily depends on what kinda creature it is, artstyle etc. but generally fur. Like even if i draw dragons, i wanna add some fur. Slugcats are an exception lol, i've drawn them with fur before but i'm a firm believer of smooth, slimy slugcats. Other than that, ears, horns and claws are fun.

GANYU WITH A QILIN TAIL!!!! I'm enjoying all the new art of baby ganyu, but i'm rlly excited abt my "adult ganyu showing keqing her fluffy tail" wip lol. I can tell you i've been lowkey agonizing over having to draw clothes tho 😭😭 But i got over it and it's going okay, so i should be done with it maybe even today. Also what's funny is that ganyu's head in this drawing is a months old doodle i just repurposed for this drawing. I'm glad i got to actually use it for something lol

24. whats a compliment about your art that has always stuck with you?

One time someone said they "love the togetherness of this image" abt my drawing, and that was really nice, like yes!!! I succeeded at putting emotions into this image!!! Also you said "this is like straight out of a scene in my mind tbh" abt the exact same drawing, which i liked a lot too!!! Something abt humans connecting with each other thru art perhaps?

But I also really enjoy whenever people say they like the shapes i draw, or that my art and characters are " so shaped", etc. And character expressions!!

29. do you use a lot of references while drawing?

Yes, usually. Sometimes for simpler doodles i won't have any, or maybe only a few, but a lot of the time my canvas is cluttered with references lol. In-game screenshots, official art, irl photos, 3d model pose screenshots, my own art too. For my latest wip i took photos of my own arms hhhh. Sometimes it also just serves as setting the vibe tho, or general inspo, not necessarily anatomy or some specific thing. Depends on the drawing. (old examples below)

sorry I’m all up ur notifs rn but thought this should be a separate ask - in ur response to my previous ask you mentioned that remus has this air of vulnerability to him which is part of what draws ppl in, and I’m curious whether u feel that that vulnerability is outwardly visible (to other characters I mean) in OAO? Or rather, clearly it is since u mentioned it in this context lol, but I’m curious how that shows through (or if it’s just his vibes)? Since we (so far!) only rlly see him through Sirius’s unreliable narration and he obv knows Remus so well but also describes him as rlly hard to read and hard to get him to show vulnerability, and I’m curious now if that’s something about Remus that’s clear to everyone (which might be what ur referring to about him being mysterious) or something Sirius sees bc he knows Remus so well - I guess I’m intrigued that ppl seem to pick up on his vulnerability when it seems like he’s working so hard to hide his emotions in order to avoid seeming vulnerable, yk? He’s such a fascinating character lol (I am just like everyone in the club fr)

omg never apologise!!! i literally love talking about them <333 SO YES i think in part the vulnerability comes through in his general appearance; sirius is constantly waxing lyrical about how sexy and beautiful remus is, but he's also this bird boned man who looks like he lives off porridge (aka the only thing he knows how to cook) and cigarettes. he has perma eye bags and always looks a bit sleepy. yes, he FUCKS but he could also do with a protein smoothie if ya feel me. sirius's very first impression of remus was that he looked like a well-loved teddy. comforting, but also something to be treasured and protected.

i do think a huge part of the draw for people towards him is his almost contradictory nature; on one hand, he's so very kind and gives off strong sensitive guy vibes (in the same way that all tall spindly men reading beaten up books on the bus do), but he's also elusive af. and i really think this combination of traits makes people go wild; it's like a tease. like you KNOW there is so much there under the surface, but it's all being kept tightly under wraps,, and people can't help but fall for that. they want to be the one to uncover it all! added to that, he's always willing to lend an ear to other people and their problems, but he becomes v dodgy when it comes to talking about himself. sirius always feels guilty for taking up room with his feelings, and definitely part of that (not that sirius realises) is remus using sirius's feelings as a bit of a buffer for his own. if that makes sense? he's not being intentionally manipulative, but he feels like his own feelings are a burden; i think tied to that is a desire to make sure that nobody else around him feels like a burden for their feelings, but also a desire to just feel useful.

also, what will be made particularly evident in the next chapter ;-) is that remus controls himself A Lot around sirius. more than anyone else. around sirius, he's both the most himself and at his absolute most vulnerable, and that combination absolutely terrifies him. and he works overtime to try and keep himself under control. it doesn't help that sirius always finds a way to slip under remus's defenses, so he always tries extra extra hard to guard against that. but sirius always finds ways of surprising him (and vice versa)!

anywho..... i think the essence of what i'm trying to say here is: at his core, remus is incredibly vulnerable, and he works overtime to try to negate that. but!!! we will see some of those walls fall... :-) eventually :-))))

favourite character: the manager....... lobby boy is a close second but he can't beat the manager for me....... it's funny bc i didn't like her much at first but the way her character develops throughout the series is so compelling and goddddd i care abt her so deeply. she's so funny and silly without realising it sometimes but she's also So Sad. i love how over the series she softens up just a little bit personality wise and you can see her start to care abt the others despite herself......... i can't fully explain it but she just fascinates me so much im so hyped to see what travis does with her in the future. also her internal monologues while dealing with guests can kinda be a big customer service mood at times LOL

funniest character: i want to say the manager again but im gonna try to be fair here.......... i think the owner is the funniest character but completely unintentionally on his part lmao. he's so Grumpy and his absolutely all consuming hatred for the lobby boy in the earlier seasons is so funny. he just sees the lobby boy standing there and is absolutely fuming exploding with rage. he's silly. also his rivalry with the manager kills me they're just playing passive aggression 4d chess 24/7

best looking character: ok so we never get to actually see them but it's the manager. i know it's her. i instinctively feel like the concierge is probably hot too but the manager is the sexiest of all of them i just know it

3 favourite ships: uhm. i can't rlly think of 3 lol but my top 2 are managerboy (obviously teehee) and ive started becoming fond of the bellhop x the auditor too (idk if it has a ship name). i don't rlly listen to the show with shipping in mind though so i can't say it's something i think abt much. although i am Insane abt managerboy to a degree lol

reason why i listen to it: bc it's good!!!!! idk why i enjoy it so much bc just the basic premise doesn't seem like something i would enjoy, like as a concept it just seems sorta fucked up and repetitive but the writing is just so good.......... i can't help but get into it and care abt the characters despite the fact that they're objectively horrible lol. i adore them. and the horror is so good and the stories are so compelling and always have this deeply emotional level to them that i didn't expect at all when starting the show

why i started watching it: bc of izzy's @/filthyguts amazing art for the show! its art captures the vibe of the show so well i love his stuff so much.......... very very good art. it's been inspiring me a lot tbh lol but im so fucking busy that i can't find the time to draw myself rn and it's tearing me apart a lil bit rip. but anyways yeah i think his art for the show should be compulsory viewing for anyone who listens to it, it complements and adds to the podcast itself so well

Hey Raven! I appreciated and loved reading your thoughts regarding your recent Twst dating sim asked! What stood out the most to me as someone who is aromantic is how you questioned how romantic love is more powerful/influential compared to platonic love.

I love Twst so much because even if you decide to ship some characters (canon x canon, oc x canon, and so on), it's still inclusive of everyone. You still get to have platonic relationships, even when it's hinted at some "romance" moments. It focuses on platonic relationships and how important it is to heal and work through your problems.

If Twst was a dating sim, I believe it would reinforce amatonormativity and that the boys are only interested in you because they want to date you. Not only would there be a good chance that it would be targeted towards a predominately female audience, which would exclude the male and nonbinary audience that makes up a large portion of the community as well; it would forsake all the hard work the lore has already created.

Not everything has to be romantic, romance is Not the end goal. It's fine to want to ship with the characters, in fact, I encourage it. But if Twst was Just a dating sim, it wouldn't be exclusive to those who identify as aromantic. With just how much everyday media is centered around romance, friends to lovers, "true love conquers all" etc, Twst being a dating sim would feel so exclusive and constricting. I apologize if this seems a bit more emotional than logical thinking. I'm just an aro who is so tired of everything having to be centered around romance or the forced ideology that romantic love will fix all of your problems when it won't.

Platonic attraction/love is so important in stories like these for me because not everything is about romance. But I also think it's important to the other side as well because there are some aplatonic and asexuals within the Twst community! I would love to hear any of their opinions on this as well and see what they think

And with that done, now to the ask itself! ^^ I think you brought up a lot of interesting points for discussion.

I completely agree that romantic love is something that is heavily promoted in all forms of media. It’s often portrayed in a way that undermines the importance of friendships and familial love, or in a way that holds romantic love up as the pinnacle of ALL forms of love. Because of that, it can, quite understandably, feel extremely alienating for those that experience little to no romantic attraction. Aromantics sometimes end up thinking they’re the ones that are “broken”, since they cannot feel what everyone else seems to be feeling. I see you, I hear you, andI understand you.

As I’ve said before, a BIG draw of TWST for many is that it’s pretty open-ended in terms of the types of relationships you can have with its characters. You can ship as many people as you want with whoever you want, and you can avoid shipping them altogether if that’s what you prefer. You can have romance if you want, and you can have friendships if you want. You can be male, female, nonbinary, trans, straight, gay, aro, ace, bi, whatever you want to be. You can truly have it YOUR way just like at Burger King, and we’re lovin’ it just as Ronald McDonald would want us to for that. Everyone can be included.

I really love how TWST appeals to so many different people! 🥰 And I definitely think that platonic love deserves more of a spotlight in media; it’s very underrepresented compared to romantic love. That’s what amplifies TWST’s greatness--it can tell complex stories with deep and compelling characters without necessarily having romantic love as the centerpiece for the narrative. At the same time, people can still enjoy the fanservice (in the card art and some lines of dialogue that are vague enough to be viewed as either romantic or platonic).

Fans interpret the relationships however they wish because the base game leaves the choice up to them. That is the real magic of Twisted Wonderland.

regarding what happened, i can understand both sides of the story <3.

i completely understand what you meant- and i understand that you didn’t mean to hurt anyone and you were just having a bad mental health day/moment & that’s completely okay.

however, we have to be careful around other people as we don’t understand what people are going through. for example, i have bpd- and uncontrollable mood swings and unstable thinking can come with that, but do you see it reflected on my blog? no. because that’s not fair to other people.

i may be hurting badly, but some other people may be hurting badly too and when you’re in a breakdown- most of the time we’re not thinking of other people.

what you can do now is to learn and grow, and take accountability for your actions. join new servers, make friendship posts on tumblr whilst also dealing with your emotions- journal them out, paint out your anger- even draw. do anything to help you feel a little bit lighter & at ease with your emotions.
