a/n: It has been a hot min! But I'm happy to be back :) Life has been super busy and honestly, I just haven't been able to make time for writing :( but hopefully going forward I can do it more because I miss it and I miss you guys! Feel free to send requests esp for this character, can't promise I will get to all of them but I can try! Concept (requested): "Hello!!! Can you do an imagine where Shuri has been overworking herself and the reader is the only one who can get her to take a break maybe with a smut scene (only if you’re comfortable with writing that) :)"

“Griot, open the door.” You demand as you wait outside of Shuri’s lab. 

“Griot!! Don’t you dare.” You hear muffled through the wall. 

“Shuri!!! Let me in!!” You say a little louder for her to hear. 

No response. 

“Panther, need I remind you that y/n is just as smart as you and I do believe if she wants to find a way into this room she will.” Griot says over the speakers in the lab. 

A small smile comes across Shuri’s face when she remembers how brilliant her girlfriend truly is. Just as she opens her mouth to tell Griot to open the doors it’s too late anyways as she hears the swoosh from the doors open and sees her not so happy girlfriend standing in front of her. 

“Look I swear I was about to let you in-” Shuri starts, picking up what she was working on trying to continue working on it as she walks backwards away from her girlfriend. 

“Pass it over.” You say in your best sounding stern mom voice. 

“I am SO close please- let me just get five more minutes.” She says with those dark beautiful eyes. 

“Shuri, you said that last night and when I woke up this morning, your side of the bed wasn’t even touched.” 

A small guilty laugh comes out of your girlfriend as you continue to walk towards her until she is backed up against the table and has nowhere to go. 

“Shuri, what’s going on? Why haven’t you left the lab in days?”

This more careless expression drops off her face as she looks down at her feet. 

“Ever since everything that happened with Namor, I just— I know we reached a mutual understanding but I can’t help but feel like something is still wrong and Wakanda— Wakanda feels unprotected.”

“Shuri— wakanda isn’t unprotected. It has you, we have our black panther and you know that.”

“Yeah, but what if I’m not enough? I’m not T’Challa and honestly I know most of the elders still aren’t pleased with my choice to turn down the throne but take up the mantle of the black panther.” She says with a small chuckle. 

You give her a soft smile as you cup her face bringing her towards you and laying a gentle kiss on her forehead.

“I know you’ve been working very hard on all of your new projects but please— my love, let me take you for lunch so you can try to unwind a little.”

Shuri nods her head as she gently sets down the items in her hands and takes yours as you walk out of the lab together. 

The two of you went to your favourite local food vendor downtown in the Capital of Wakanda. They are a small hole in the wall type of place but always have the best service and the most spectacular food…it does help of course that you’re dining with the princess of Wakanda.

“I am STUFFED.” Shuri says with the most adorable giggle and smile as she looks over at you. 

“Are you feeling a little bit better now?” You ask.

“Much. Thank you.” She says as she leans in for a quick kiss. “I think I know what would make me feel even better though…” she says with a cheeky grin. 

You raise your eyebrows at her when you quickly click into what she has running through her mind. “Oh really?” 

“Mhm.”

Shuri grabs your hand as she pulls you onto the back of her motorcycle which you know can be dangerous but you secretly love it. Getting to hold her waist tightly, weaving through other vehicles and just the feeling of going at such a speed. 

“My queen.” Shuri says, extending her hand looking to help you off her bike. 

The blush ran through your cheeks, you always get a little flustered when she says things like that to you. 

God your girlfriend was so fucking hot. It was the matching purple tracksuit outfit that really just did it for you. 

Shuri led you upstairs to her room while you followed eagerly behind. 

“Griot.”

“Welcome back panther and miss Y/n.”

“You know what to do.” She says. 

You turn and look at your girlfriend with a confused look on your face as she has a devious smile on her face. 

The lights start dimming as a giant white screen begins to roll down from the ceiling across from Shuri’s bed. A projector flickers on with an endless list of movies to choose from along with chocolates and other assorted snacks appearing on the side table. 

“I thought you said you were full?” You say nudging towards the sweet treats. 

“Oh I am— but I actually have one last thing I wouldn’t mind eating…” She responds with a very familiar look on her face. “Oh wait! One more thing.” Shuri says as she pulls out a small box with a bow. 

You open the box only to reveal an unbelievably sexy purple matching set. You raise an eyebrow in your girlfriend's direction as she can’t stop smiling at you. 

“So…”

You let out a chuckle and a playful eye roll as you tell her you’ll be right back as you make your way towards the bathroom. 

The bathroom door unlocks as you walk through it and Shuri turns her head as fast as she can only to have her jaw drop on the floor as she takes in your beauty. 

Letting out the loudest “DAMN!” She can’t help but cover her mouth with her hands as you slowly walk towards her. 

“God, have I ever told you that you are the most beautiful woman in the entire universe?”

“Oh is that so?”

“Oh my god yes.”

You continue to slowly walk towards Shuri but her impatience grows bigger so she quickly walks over to you, swiftly lifting you off your feet. Your legs wrap around her as she holds you up and her lips connect with yours. Your arms draped over her shoulders as she continued to passionately kiss you. 

Shuri gently lays you down on the bed as she crawls on top and begins slowly kissing down your neck as the softest moans escape your lips. Your eyes open ever so slightly as they start to roll back into your head when you see a flashing blue light coming from the side table.

“Shuri…”

“Yes my love? She whispers into your neck as she continues to make her way down.

“I think there is a notification coming from your kimoyo beads.”

“Ignore it. Whoever it is can wait, I only want to be with you right now.”

You close your eyes as she hits the soft spot on your hip causing shivers to roll up your spine sending your head backwards into the pillows. 

The light had stopped flashing but started again but this time it was blinking faster.

“Shuri…”

“y/n. Just ignore it, do not worry.” She says as her lips softly lay a kiss on yours. 

Shuri brings one of her hands up to gently cup your face as her tongue explores the inside of your mouth. Her hands start to trail down the sides of your stomach and begin to tug on the new lingerie she bought you. It’s been awhile since the two of you have spent time together like this and god was your body craving it. You felt like you were falling into a trance…

“Panther, I tried to stop him but you have incoming.” Griot announces.

“wha-WHAT HEY.” Shuri screams as she whips the duvet over your slightly exposed body. You look over at the door frame to see M’Baku standing there with his hand over his eyes.

“Shuri, I am sorry to interrupt whatever I may have interrupted but we need you now.”

“I am very clearly in the middle of something. Whatever it is, you are king now and you can handle it.” She says in a surprisingly calm yet stern tone. “And take your hand down, there is nothing to see.”

M’Baku slowly lowers his hand and makes eye contact with you as you give him a little wave from under the covers. 

“I’m sorry, but you need to come, you know the elders, they do not like to be kept waiting. I swear I would not be here doing this if it was not important. We need the Black Panther.”

Shuri rolls her eyes, “if I had known I would have this many responsibilities I would have never drank that stupid herb.” she says in a sarcastic tone. 

“I will be back soon my love, I promise.” Shuri says as she kisses you on the forehead. “Griot please turn on y/n’s favourite until I get back.”

“As you wish.” Griot responds as your favourite movie is already loading up on the screen. 

“My king.” She says bending over and motioning towards the door for M’Baku to walk through. He just rolls his eyes with a laugh as she follows behind and the door closes behind them.

Although she left you right when things were about to get good, you were still happy to see her getting back to her usual self, sarcastic and always joking around with the most amazing smile too.

As someone who reads a lot of fics with the "no metas in Gotham" (FREE MY SOUUUUUUUUULLLL) I can definitely say that its existence is silly at best, and terribly fucking hilarious at worst. It's even funnier when you actually compare that to stuff batfamily members say in canon not just because it's not something they would follow but also because it's just,,,, not something that would really make sense considering that most of them are either poc or gay (Bruce, honey, you're Jewish, what goes on in your tiny little head) and they 100% would feel personally offended at it, not in a "we're so sad about this" but more so "Bruce I will personally spank you, you dumbass"

Like Bruce honey, your daughter is a young Asian girl, ya really think it's a good idea to be functionally racist next to her??? Like are you sure about that????? What kind of makes this worse is that there is actually no need for this to exist for you to write a good story, it has no storytelling function, so it just comes off as silly and out of touch most of the time,,, because the people who write stories with that rule ARE out of touch. Anyway, I'm gonna go back to reading flash comics and being sick, I miss Bart, I miss my little boyyyy

but yeah. i don't have much to add re: the """"no metas in gotham"""" fanon that i haven't already said, but yea it's just... no thanks. it's funny bc the times bruce has been written as being shitty about metas in canon, he was explicitly depicted as being in the wrong and getting told off by other characters for it, and yet...

but yeah i run the risk of just repeating myself if i say much further. tldr It's Not Good Writing Lol

Also cute lil Ohm is there. And Jennie. It's a good time and I appreciate how unpredictable it is. It's been my little happy evening watch lately.

Current favourite character: I think this was my answer last time I got tagged in one of these but. Ray from Only Friends. He's just so!! <3

Current WIP: I have a few fanvids in progress. Not gonna say they're still going at a promising pace but, I want them to be done so bad! I have a really fancy fun edit going to New Rules for SandRay & NickBoston. I also have a Buffy Summers edit going.

Aside from that I have a few fics but—while I certainly haven't given up on them—I'm not sure I'd call them WIPs considering the amount of time it's been since I last touched them.

Other things I've been working on include writing down Thai words I know on flashcards, which has been a fun if time-consuming process! It's a personal goal of mine to work on learning Thai. I've actually never learned a second language but have always wanted to, so it's rather special to me! I don't know a ton yet but I'm proud that I haven't given up on it. And it's honestly so satisfying when I'm watching something or listening to music and realize I understood something small without having to read subs, or understand a teeny tiny joke that wouldn't come across in English.

Besides that, I was doing a giant WIP in October which I didn't get that far on, but that's making the floofy Wednesday Addams dress. I've at least finished drafting a really nice fitted undershirt and making most of the detailed leather belt with a thick pleather material I had—it just needs to be assembled but I didn't do that bit yet bc my sewing machine was having issues for a while there (anyway I cut out 110 little shapes for the belt by hand with an xacto knife bless my SOUL). Hopefully I'll get back to the project when I'm feeling more energetic again!

Hey this is the same anon, I'm super happy that you liked the idea! Sincerely, I am extremely stoked, thank you so much!

This concept has been running through my mind nonstop ever since that ask and I have a few more ideas. Not to pressure you to add this in the fic or force these ideas on you, yet again I'm just having fun sharing these.

Anyways, Blake and Black brother-in-law moments REAL?! Whitley and White sister-in-law moments TRUE!? Ugh i'm eating up these hypothetical scenarios.

White most likely assigns Black to be Blake's bodyguard whenever he decides to go out, since he has celebrity status and all. The same thing goes for Whitley, though I see Blake accompanying her a lot too. So Black has to thirdwheel, not knowing it's Blake enacting vengeance for all those time he was the thirdwheel when it was just White, Black, and him at the BW Agency.

Also more of how I think Blake would be as an actor, though in this scenario he never received super spy training, he probably got super intense media training from White. They're both coming up with insane, genius, absolutely unhinged strategies to manipulate the media, Light Yagami monologuing typa bamboozlery. And Whitley and Black are just having a pleasant chat, side eyeing them every thirty seconds or so.

I imagine Blake's acting style to be refined, perfect, infallible that it's almost too much. Since he doesn't understand emotions, he studies, studies, studies, and studies. Writing down what his character would do, analyzing every line of dialogue, down to the body language and speech patterns etcetera. That's how he's able to nail so many different characters. AKA Christian Bale ahh acting style.

Now for Whitley, she's the opposite, she's new and unrefined, full of flaws. But full of emotion, her performances reaches out and captures. Delivering the feel needed for the scene and character.

And it really fascinates Blake, how she's so in tune with her emotions, making him kinda obsessed with her reactions...

That's it for now, I haven't even touched the surface for Blake and White's sibling dynamic but I sort of don't want this to be novel-length. Yet again, I am so happy that you accepted that ask! I really look forward to what you're cooking up, take as much time as you need!

I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)? Reading: Yan and noncon I guess? And duping/secrets, which @/desceros does really well. Sex pollen. Writing: oh man. I like hurting my readers. A huge guilty pleasure is that I make massive written works. I can't keep it small or contained, I can't make blurbs or rambles. It needs a pre-established and somewhat explored relationship at the least, and I just tend to go for longer works. I like huge arcs. I also tend to make very....powerful, conniving love interests, visible in both Caiji in Butterfly Effect and Anni in my bay raph fic. Come to think of it, I also tend to pair them with bay raph-

M: Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care to share? Like writing premises? One about making bay donnie origami and taunting him with it in hidden places. Another about bay Mikey in a shame spiral and needing your validation. Another about bay raph learning to be gentle when he touches you. An idea by @luckycharms1701 where bay Leo aches to have Mikey's girlfriend. A short comic here and there about my human fnaf rise au. I hope to one day make turtle pov fics about how much they crave you. Something with bay Mikey x a bubbly reader that likes to eat(not a feeder fic, a chubby reader). I also hope to make loser!reader content😶‍🌫️ and more headcanon style nsfw. I want to make Yan works as well. Though all my premises are on the back burner at the moment, as I can't write for the foreseeable future.

Z: Major character death–do you ever write/read it? Is there a character whose death you can’t tolerate? You won't necessarily see it a lot recently bc I haven't been writing, but I write it a lot. I've killed Big Mama in my human rise comic. There's an average amount of character death in Butterfly Effect, though less than you'll probably think. I however have a very hard time reading it. I mostly read smut or romance, but in the angstier things I read it's still just canonical deaths, like rise bad future works. It's less that I hate it and more that I don't seek it out. I don't think there's a character death I don't tolerate, bc again I don't really read those kinds of works. I do, however, really struggle with reading works where the reader is dead? Too much disconnect, I feel. I LOVE alternate pov fics but I also like actually feeling and being alive, and most of them get very hopelessly sad, which is one of the few things that actually affects me

8. for hamilton, i hope more people can appreciate aaron burr. he is the most underutilized character in the musical, and often times people just completely erase his character and characterization. i could go on for hours about aaron burr. his dynamics with everyone are amazing, and let's be real, leslie is arguably one of the most talented people in the cast. HOW DO PEOPLE NOT APPRECIATE BURR??? anyway for jcs, just jcs broadway 2012 in general. people don't even put this production in the core ones, and it makes me saddd :(( like guys i promise it's good. i know it's different BUT DIFFERENT IS GOOD!! they didn't appreciate it then, and they don't appreciate it now :((( but also for jcs, mary. i need to see more mary love. more mary fics, more mary fanart. just more mary pls and thanks.

I love the use of motifs for songs (like wait for it and burn being the same notes, just at different tempos and with different rhythms) like the implications there that burr and Eliza have some similarities in these songs makes my head spin and keeps me up at night. of course, this is just me being insane for hamburr. like lin is a smart man. he worked on this for years. he did that on PURPOSE. also the fact that alexander is constantly singing other people's themes, like eliza's and burr's, almost mocking them with it. in jcs 2012 broadway, during jesus' arrest, judas is trying to run to jesus with and outstretched hand only to get flung away by a guard. no one talks about this. i brainrot over this moment. judas canonically was trying to rescue jesus. and when he's just centimeters away from touching him, they're ripped apart. also not really tiny, but under-appreciated. the temple scene. the implications of judas walking through while jesus/mary avoid it, the way he's staring at the dancers (men and women), and the fact jesus gets so angry he shoves him that hard. like oh god, they took an already dense scene and made it even more heavy. WHAT WAS GOING ON THERE???

23. hmmm. this ones hard bc most the time, i actively venture into the fandom if it looks interesting. so this happened with hazbin hotel. some mutuals were fangirling over it, and i gave it a try and loved it!!! but i guess if I had to pick one I haven't looked into yet....I think it might be batman?? but not batman??? batman's kids??? idk I see it a lot, and they're always doing lots of whump stuff!

A 10k word count is no joke so firstly, thank you for deciding to share this story with the fam <3 I can't wrap my head around the fact that there was supposed to be more, but you opted to make it a different chapter

So, dearest darling, I just wanted to say:

Each fic you do, the thing I find most exciting is the creative ways you dodge using 'y/n'. Let me tell you, I live for it. Like with the bodyguard au you decide to describe how he talks to mc instead of just simply slapping 'y/n' onto the sentence and calling it a day... and that just does it for me.

For this specific chapter I love how you used Jisung's and Hyunie's characters. Han starting the chapter literally made me go :( Partially bc he doesn't know his besties sleep in the same bed and have been doing so for the past 4 years. I wonder if they ever tell him...

With Hyunjin, ugh the character developed queen you are. Especially the part where mc is making sure he eats that cupcake ("You eat! You eat!"~Han Jisung) Tbh this chapter is so angsty bc yet again I go 😔 Sure, mc's life is basically hell but she has Felix... Who does Hyunjin have? :(((( I'm worried about him, does he have anyone he can rely on? :(

I audibly yelled when Felix caught mc with her hand in her pants 💀💀💀💀💀💀 I CACKLED! It was so funny to me like why couldn't a homegirl think of doing it under the covers😭😭??? Or in another bathroom of that humongous house

This brings me to the humanness of the chapter. A moment of silence for your ever-impeccable use of imagery🙇‍♀️ They're just kids. They really are just a boy and a girl at the end of the day. When Felix leaned over to peck her forehead I genuinely stopped reading for a second. The way he handles her so gently (most of the time hehe), coupled with the way she was counting the seconds.... Like darling be fr😭 How will I ever move on from this fic? I loved every description of how she clung to him because she didn't really know how else to deal with what she's feeling. And for heaven's sake Felix, KISS HER ALREADY! I love how I'm saying this knowing he can't. Ooh which reminds me, i loved the part where you said that crossing that line would have to be intentional. No not-so-accidental hanky panky here hah. For all the cliches that are allowed to slide in fanfiction, I once again love how you simply refuse to be ordinary.

Lastly, onto the smut hehe ;) The tension was everything to me. The build up was superb. All the times he rushed to the bathroom 😭😭✋ My favourite part was when he asked mc if Hyunjin had kissed her. I know that part wasn't steamy but if I was mc that would have told me all I need to know ✋ Anyways, you ate up every fic and it's author's pet with that mutual mast******** I would've physically died. i'm also excited to work with the older teens from st for once, and i think it's been really nice to creatively switch things up for me this way. i've loved getting to apply some of the buffy character archetypes to st characters: Robin is basically Buffy, i've made Nancy a mixture of Willow and Faith, Hopper is Giles (💀), and Steve is kind of the Xander figure

here's a snippet because i am very excited for Chrissy's role in this fic :)

Chrissy Cunningham – The Spelling Bee! – Serving all your Hawkins High magic needs – knock three times on the table in the woods behind the football field – walk-ins only! The teachers had been mercilessly scraping her fliers off the hallways’ corkboards, and Steve had grown so used to them that he hadn’t bothered to really consider them anymore. Since the hellmouth had been opened last year thanks to Will’s disappearance, all kinds of weird shit had been attracted to Hawkins, and Hawkins’ citizens had, in turn, become more attracted to some of their town’s oddities as well. Namely, a lot of the Hawkins High students had become interested in magic, Chrissy being the most interested of them all. She’d transformed from a total popular cheerleader type to the girl who sat in class and played with crystals or read people’s palms. She was still popular as hell and had the top cheerleader spot of course, but everyone had agreed she’d grown a little…odd. But Hawkins has always been weird, just grown a bit weirder, and odd is exactly what Steve needs right now.  Magic is what Steve needs right now. He knows Jonathan still feels something–he saw it in Jonathan’s eyes, in the way his fists had shook against his crossed arms. It wasn’t Jonathan’s heart that had made that decision, but his head, that infernal logic that’s been trained by years of abuse from a deadbeat father that said it was better to cut and run before you end up with a fist against your teeth.

in throes of increasing wonder: an interview with the vampire au i haven't touched in a hot second but never say never amiright lol

working on this one has been most exciting for me because it's set in New Orleans, a city i have spent a lot of time in!! i haven't really seen any byler fics where they're in the south (which like,,,i understand bc the south is The South,,,,,,but also there is some cool stuff here, and not everyone is horrible, right?). so when i have worked on it, it's been fun to incorporate my own knowledge and experiences with the city into my writing. i also will die on the hill that most US cities are largely the same and don't have much variance, but i do think New Orleans stands apart from the rest and has its own really unique vibe/culture. i know every major city will say but like,,,do they have Mardi Gras? do they have king cakes and jambalaya and beignets and a city that sits below sea level? no. they do not.

here's a snippet!

He approaches the mirror, and he examines the damage. Spots speckle all up and down his throat; when he tugs at his collar, they continue down his clavicles and shoulders. His lips are swollen and his hair is a mess, but what draws him in most is the bite. That’s all it can be–what it has to be. Teeth marks, sharp and punctuated against his skin, blood crusted around where the openings have swollen shut. He presses at them, flinches at the throbs of pain they send like shockwaves up to his head, which spins with dizzying delight. More dried blood flakes off and falls like crimson snow against his shirt, which he dutifully swipes away with a half-hearted hand. 

It’s not the strangest thing, especially in a place like New Orleans. He’s seen plenty of people in the wake of a passionate night out with all sorts of discombobulation: torn clothes, patches of hair missing, teeth fillings scraped out and matching tattoos scrawled into each other’s skin. It just means he has to wait for it to heal, to cover his neck like he’d have to anyway. Damn the October warmth; the least he could’ve done is have the foresight to do this in January or February, where he could at least put on a scarf.

Yes! It's rare for me to not want to hear back, but I know and understand that sometimes you got nothing else to say, since I've been on that end too.

That would be TTOU Big Finish Snippet: Workplace Security [AO3] with its all of THREE KUDOS! *paper confetti* I really enjoyed writing something for The Thick of UNIT that was Jamie, Sam, and Bismuth. One of the great things about both Doctor Who and The Thick of It is the side characters and what they can bring to the story. While Doctor Who is able to access all of time and space with its side characters and give us more Human voices to lean upon for anywhere from an episode to a whole series/season, the side characters in The Thick of It give us a sense of just how many cogs are in the system and how big and far-reaching everything is, especially what the ministers and aides are cocking up. It's a reminder of all the banal shit in a government or other large organization and how much of said shit happens and yet you have to carry on best you can. Here we're able to explore all of those concepts in a short audio script fic that has no shortage of Bismuth attempting to figure things out, Sam being a sort of grounding force, and Jamie being... well... Jamie. my next-least at five is the beginnings of a rewrite of an old One Piece fic i haven't touched in years and i really need to get back on that bc i haven't touched the rewrite in more than a few months lol i'm too many dozens of thousands of words into the conceptualization to just drop it at this point

💞what's the most important part of a story for you? the plot, the characters, the worldbuilding, the technical stuff (grammar etc), the figurative language

I'm going to answer this in regards to fan fiction only, since it has factors that don't impact published original fiction and vice versa. A tough one, but I would have to honestly say it's a weird combination of factors that can vary if certain criteria are met. Sometimes I begin to go through a fic where something's not up to snuff and I'll go "I'll entertain this for now" and it's lead to some surprising things. Part of this I think comes from cutting my fandom teeth with varying anime as a teen back in the 2000s. One of the things that I think makes sense when you think about it but we're easily able to take for granted is that one can utilize fandom as experimentation and practicing and figuring shit out. For some people, that's learning how to write a story. Others might know how to make words do things (wording is hard!), but they need practice at worldbuilding and storycraft. Some are trying to figure out how to stay consistent with a character, while on the opposite end of that, there's shit so silly that it can't help but be funny. If there's the right balance, then there are definitely things I can look over, but too many infractions clashing with one another and whoops Nehs out. There's also people who use fandom to practice foreign language skills in general. We see it often with weebs learning Japanese, but it also goes with people writing in English-as-a-Second-Language too. I've seen some really questionably-crafted stories that were rife with spelling and technical errors, but the soul of the story is there, if that makes any sense. They KNOW the characters, they KNOW what they want to tell, they KNOW how to get everything across in every possible way, and probably write really well in their native language, but in English...? They're working on it. And that's great! Part of me wants to branch out into that sort of thing one day, but the problem is that the communities whose languages I'm trying to learn are already very bilingual in English. But yeah... because all of those things were so weird and fluid and just desperately wanted in Anglophone weeb spaces FFN that it made sense to take what we could and encourage others when it came to writing about our anime blorbos. I dunno about everyone else's experience, but I rarely was in the middle of flame wars, so most of my fandom experience tended to be pretty cool. Also, having ESL family helps. It's no joke that it's hard translating everything in your head before you say it--some stuff gets lost in translation... literally!

💫what is your favorite kind of comment/feedback?

In lieu of a mini book report like was common in my teen years (lol), I really enjoy the ones that take something(s) that the reader liked about the story/chapter and picks it all apart. It could just be that they really liked a line or exchange of dialogue, or mentioning how events are going and how that messes with the story, or using context clues to try to parse out what's coming next. Knowing what clicks and whirs and gets into people's brain is so interesting to me and I love getting that information because then that's stuff for me to figure out as well about my writing and how it interacts with folks. Bonus points when someone does it on a by-chapter basis and/or on older stuff! I do also appreciate when someone legitimately corrects me, lol, 'cause Lord knows I'm not perfect.

5. Do you plan or jump right in, and if you plan, how much do you like to do before you start a story?

i plan for the most part. once i'm inspired with an idea i tend to make an outlining doc and just go to town. i'll start with a summary of what's going on in my brain, write down the things that are giving me the current inspo (songs/lyrics, movies, tv shows, etc) and then add in a little bit of timeline. or if i don't add timeline in then, i'll add it in later to keep dates and ages in check. timelines are soooo important to me. and then once i settle on the base layer i build from there. i'll outline chapters if it's a chapter fic, scenes if it's a one shot. i'll have dialogue, a bit of what i want certain scenes to look like/sound like. of course, i follow maybe like 50% of what i outline bc i will be taken over by the muse while writing. but i'd say that my outlines are a really good starting point to know where the overall plot is and so i don't lose the plot. i have 1 fic i'm never going to update/post that i just started writing, no outline, and last i checked it was 86k of nonsense. oh i didn't write an outline for my steddie one shot but to be fair it's based on an au i started writing before vol 2 and haven't touched since. even that au was outlined because i had too many characters and i needed to keep track. so the baseline was there and i just tweaked it given new inspiration such as daisy jones and the six, a star is born, popstar: never stop never stopping. (yes, that was my inspo for that one shot.) so sometimes it's not so specific but i have my ideas written somewhere so i can visit them later when i'm more inspired for a certain plot/idea.

11. What was the last color you used in your current WIP/most recent project?

reading this made me realize i do not use color enough. i found like 2 instances where i said a color. i didn't even describe someone's eye color bc i was too lazy to google it.

For some reason, this touched him but not in the way she was possibly hoping. It touched something white-hot, angry. “Oh, so you know me? You’re an expert on me after meeting me for, what, five seconds at a party over a year ago?”

ayeee so it's that time of year again!! i know i haven't posted much in 2022 (like... just a handful of fics oops) but i still hit a decent word count and made significant progress on long fic wips!

so yeahhh here's my 2022 fic summary which is... basically a chance to introduce my wips LOL

1. Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or what you predicted?

a bit less!! it's about half as much as i wrote last year (which was a whooping 150k word count LMAO), but this range is already more than the average for me in any given year so it's not too bad. in terms of what i POSTED though... i have no excuse for that 😅 most of my word count is from wips/ideas so i didn't have any finished content to post

2. What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?

last january i definitely didn't know i would write for svt!! i kind of had a feeling that deobiblr was already dying at the time, and that's around when i started watching going seventeen to get into them... but yeah didn't know i'd slip so deep into the carat life (blaming you, kim mingyu 😒)

3. What’s your own favourite story of the year?

it's a time loop au wip that i've written about 19k so far!! where our mc is stuck in a loop trying to change their fate of unrequited love by meeting [boy group member] first before his current gf does. so mc tries to alter events and change the course of fate all while trying to figure out a way to leave the loop

4. Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?

uhHHhhH the time loop au i suppose is a risk in itself... bc like... plotting it has been a complete pain when you're trying to consider multiple reruns of the same timeline. every detail has to be in the right place so that when the mc's actions change, we can directly see how that affects the events in the timeline

also writing domestic fluff like i did in best boy... can't say i enjoyed it but it was a good challenge!!

5. Do you have any fanfic goals for the new year?

hmm besides my two biggest wips i'd say it's this jogging au i wrote back in april!! where mc gets roped into a jogging date with [cute dating app boy] despite hating all kinds of exercise. it's definitely the typical jeongjaebae style of humour, secondhand embarrassment, and fluff. very fun to write and has me laughing every time i reread it LMAO

probably the whole truth, the scene where they're making out in juyeon's room LMAO. srry i have no other contributions this year. BUT!!! my e2l wip has the full and extended scene from want so that's something to look forward to 👀

Most “holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story:

best boy. maybe it's not terrible but idk i haven't touched it since writing it bc i hate it 🤡 domestic fluff is... not my cup of tea. i suppose it was a good writing challenge tho. maaaaybe i'll write it one day but... needs a bit more practice

You were insanely competitive but only so that you could match up to his level. And even though it took a while for you to understand your feelings for him, now you know that he's felt the same way all along. Indeed, the two of you are more similar than you think. But then again, it takes one to know one.

12) Do you outline your fics?  If yes, how detailed are your outlines?  How far do you stray from them?

I...do not outline. I'm TERRIBLE at outlining/planning. The story unfolds as I go. I have a general idea of what I want the beginning/middle/and end to look like and where it wants to go, but outlining has never ever worked for me.

18) Do you enjoy research?  Which fic of yours required the most research?

I do! Sometimes it gets frustrating, but for most part, I find it fun and interesting. I think the most research-intensive fic was "Bound with a Same-Heart Knot" (the Victorian yizhan AU) & a friend of mine (a historian) was a great help in that regard.

24) How do you choose whose POV to write in?

Someone once said that you should write in the POV of the person who knows least, for several reasons. I've done that. I've also alternated POVs, as well, quite a bit. I think the story tells you whose POV you need to be in—who's got the most to lose, who's the most oblivious, whose heart has to change, etc. Sometimes it really does call for both, because otherwise the story will be incomplete. So it's both a feeling and a conscious decision.

25) What’s your favorite part of the writing process (worldbuilding, brainstorming/outlining, writing, editing, etc)?

The writing. Definitely the writing. The writing is where my brain comes alive, where the story actually unfolds, where I have the most fun. World-building is SUPER fun, and I think I consider it part of the writing itself, with the way I write. I like to say I'm not a storyteller, I'm a writer, bc if you told me to tell you a story without writing it out, I couldn't do it. But once I start writing, I can give you a novel.

43) Is there a trope or idea that you’d really like to write but haven’t yet?

I haven't written enemies to lovers, really, and I would like to, but I'm not entirely sure I can. I would like to think I could, but we'll see. Maybe someday.

53) What is the most-used tag on your ao3?

Pining while fucking. lol. It's where I live.

72) What’s your favorite writing compliment you’ve gotten?

Whenever I make anyone cry, my powers grow. So if someone tells me they cried when they were reading something of mine, I get SO happy. It means that my writing has touched someone and made them feel deeply, and that's the highest compliment anyone can give me.

75) Is there a particular fic that readers gravitated towards that you didn’t expect?

Hmm. I never really expected that my mpreg fics would get the attention that they have. I really thought they were going to be niche little things, but they are some of my most popular stories. It's pretty great! I love it.

oh gosh i am so embarrassed to say this, but honestly, i haven't read a lot of fiction books in the recent years 😭 i do want to get into them more but i always fall off bc i'm always preoccupied finding new fics to love shdbfj. i've read some memoirs and self-help books that i like!! the most recent one was 'when breath becomes air' by paul kalanithi—not sure if it really influenced my writing, but i liked the way it was written! other than that, i've been enjoying a lot of stuff from my fave fic writers! 🥹 (can be found in the fics i reblog as fic recs!)

i usually have a concept or idea first, most of the time it's a theme i want to explore, but other rare times, it's a piece of dialogue! (sometimes specific descriptive lines also come to me).

then i find the songs. music is a must to my writing process! i find songs that either speak to the story or just give off the ~vibes.

next, i start outlining (this happens simultaneously with picking the songs)—how specific it is varies but i always need to have some sort of guide, just to at least help me with the flow/order of events. it also helps in laying out elements i want to explore/themes i want to touch on/specific recurring details i want the fic to have!!

then, i finally start writing! the hook (first line) doesn't always come first, tho it typically does (bc it sets the tone for me). depending on how long and complex the fic is, this can take me from 2-5 days for ~2k fics, and weeks for ~5k+ ones! (the title also comes whenever it feels like it; though it mostly happens at the start or mid-writing bc it also sets the tone for me!)

finally, i edit! i usually give this 1 day, just to let the fic marinate more HSAHFH and i go through numerous passes, at minimum 2 (one on my laptop, and another on my phone because my reading experience is different on both! laptop for more technical grammar things, and phone for more of the full ~emotional experience)

i will occasionally have friends read it just to ask for their opinions, especially when i'm unsure about a character/concept/if it's boring!! (shoutout to niku, soph, dilly, augustine, emmie, and midi!!)

"What do you like most about your own writing?" & "If one of your fics was going to get you arrested, which one and why?"

1) I like the flow in a lot of my fics, and I think I do good dialogue because I will often write what the characters say in a way I could picture someone in real life speaking! lmao I know my dialogue isn't perfect, and often in transition parts of a piece, the flow will get bogged down, but when I'm just writing a conversation between two characters I find I can get into a really nice rhythm of one person speaking, then the other, back, forth, back, forth, maybe transitioning into not needing to put who's saying what because the beat of the speech carries who says what for me... yeah!

2) Ho man lmao, I don't tend to write stuff that's too hard, like I don't write smut, I don't tend to write stuff that I could come back to later and be squicked out of, because my writing is for me first and if I don't like reading it then it's already failed it's first job lmao, but uhh I think I would probably get arrested for some of the gore I've written in the past? Maybe for like "encouraging readers to commit crimes" or something fgdhshg - or oh wait, maybe I'd get arrested for some of my past fics that I've posted to an old abandoned AO3 account! For a fandom that I'm not gonna say here because it would bare my whole ass to the internet and I've been trying to move away from it lmao. All you gotta know here is that the fandom reacted well to my fics which were not well written and also for one of them almost verged on smut, which is not great because the characters were... not just characters lmfao

Been years since I even touched that account because I've of course moved on, but yeesh lmao. Anyways other than that maybe I'd get arrested for writing stinky old creepy men (Beetlejuice, and not creepy but Ingo Pokemon), get persecuted for writing demons (Blue Exorcist), or putting characters in danger (anything with a kid, and also my recent Adventure Time fics that I haven't posted yet lmao bc I'm actively putting Simon in Situations) so yeah! Nothing really crazy like I know some people could say, which... yanno, maybe I should be writing more batshit stories! lmao but there we are!

I originally posted this on Twitter, and tbh I'll probably get the worst cringe in a day and delete the thread and this as well but I need people who have commissioned fics from me or at least know my writing to know what the actual mcfuck has been going on with me lately.

Re: status of my fic comms right now.

It's not that I haven't been honest with people, I have been, but probably not as honest bc I haven't been too honest with myself either? I am working on them. They will be finished. I guarantee that. But... I have very high expectations for myself. Ones that are, most likely, unrealistic. I am genuinely running on fucking empty right now and have been for the better part of six months now. Not that I was much better beforehand but it's been the worst in the past 6 months.

I'm very open and honest about being physically ill with fibromyalgia and endometriosis. Chronic migraines. Asthma. Spinal issues and the like. I also have bipolar disorder, ADHD, OCD, C-PTSD and, while not diagnosed, am likely touched by the tism as well. As such, I take (or I should say am supposed to take) a lot of meds daily. I haven't been able to take them bc I've been getting violently ill immediately after taking them and no one can figure out why! I also work full time and have been attempting to finish my masters.

That, right there, is baseline 'what the fuck mary take some time to yourself' but, lol. lmao, even. Then my life fell apart in March. How so?

In the span of one week: someone I considered a family member passed away. I finally allowed myself to be open to someone about how I felt after two horribly abusive situations only to get the kindest, gentlest thing ever said to me while also being turned down INTENSELY. And then found out not even 10 minutes after said FAMILY-ZONED (not even friend zoned FAMILY ZONED do you know how weird it is to tell someone you have feelings for them only to get told 'oh i see you like a sister i've never had' and just wanna die) that your best friend died.

Via fucking Facebook message.

And then that week also be the one year anniversary of my Nana's death which I'm sure still was malpractice but we'll never know for sure and I'm still bitter about it. Needless to say, I spiraled. Very badly.

I was already stressed from paying for fixing my car and finding myself needing the extra money from comms more and more and piling on more work on myself bc lmao bills and making my back log even worse and now I felt horrifically alone and vulnerable and embarrassed. And, to be sure, I still did put work out. But I also struggled with a lot of comms that I genuinely had been excited to take on only to find myself just... unable to do them. For one reason or another. Writers block? Feeling like it wasn't meeting expectations?

I'd ask other writers for help. For suggestions. For feedback. For other angles to approach shit. And I got fantastic advice. And still, nothing budged. I literally had burnt myself out and was still trying to run on empty. On fucking fumes. And I still am. And, I'll be honest, it also did sorta sting when I'd finally get work posted and then I'd just... idk. Feel like it flopped. Either with the person who comm'd it or with people in general and that's bc of how Twitter's algorithm hates creators but it's hard to not internalize.

And it made wanting to write and wanting to work on things so much harder because it became less and less about wanting to do something I genuinely enjoy and wanting to smush yalls Barbies around and felt like an obligation with no reward. And that's not yalls fault, truly. But I internalize that shit really hard and take it as a 'you're not doing this right, no wonder people would prefer others write shit and not you, you can't keep up the schedule you made for yourself.' Which is why my timeline even changed in March.

I tried to make a more realistic turnaround time, with the same disclaimers. I even mentioned to people that they'd be on a WAITLIST. And I still feel like I'm not working fast enough. Not because of any pressure from those who have paid. But my own brain. And it sucks.

Because it's making me spiral and making it even worse and it's a snake eating its own tail because if I can just get out of this fucking cycle of doubting myself and feeling like it's not gonna be worth it, I can conquer this shit. I owe so many people so much and I just... I feel horrible. I know that I should refund like, most if not all of you at this point. I just haven't had the funds to be able to do that, tbfh. I only just was able to get caught up on bills these past 2-3 checks. And if you want a refund, please, tell me! I'll do it!

But I think once this batch I have currently listed on Trello is completed, I'm closing comms for a good fucking long while. And learning how to actually enjoy my writing again. Because right now, I don't. I don't enjoy sharing my work and getting no boosts. No comments. Kudos are nice, don't get me wrong, and I love every single kudos that I get, when I get them. But it's hard to not let the self doubt and self critique fester. And again, this is not any of yalls fault. It's my own. And I don't know how to fix it, tbh.

So, once these comms are up, it's gonna just. Stop. I'll probably work on my own stuff, but I didn't even do any of the ship week content that I wanted to do (wolchefant, wolcred, wolmeric OR wolstinien) because I didn't want to upset those who I owed work to.

So, that's the state of me as a fic writer right now. It's more theory than practice, at this point, and I'm just... I'm trying, I really am. I have so many drafts in my google docs right now and I hate everything I've written so much that I'm starting from scratch every time.

Which is why the Trello has, for the most part, stood still. I'm not blowing you guys off. I just genuinely have nothing to show. And I'm sorry.
