Slowburn Au I thought would be really adorable to draw out--

Basic premise; Adrien doesn't immediately fall in love with LB and instead kins her bc she says the things he could never as Adrien. Marinette understands can relate to Adrien social inept-ness on a spiritual level so she finds herself playing the middle-man to help him make friends.

Adrien doesn't think he's in love with LB because he was taught that love is gradual and love at first sight doesn't exist.

Marinette doesn't think she's in love with Adrien bc (Canon divergence starts here) Love is a spark and happens instantly; Like the stories she's been told by her parents.

Obvi they get over this and realize in some ways they're both right and wrong and it takes 4-5 seasons to realize its love, and another 4-5 for a reveal-

By the way I do think that Kagami being confirmed a sentimonster is the best possible thing that could happen for Adrien, because with just Felix, it’s like, yeah but that’s his evil weird cousin, of course his weird gremlin cousin supports him no matter what, of course everything is wrong with Felix. But with Kagami, she could just be like “hi adrien please do not say that sentimonsters are not people, because i am having a bad day and that makes me sad” and adrien would be like “oh i am so sorry. Sentimonsters can be so cool and smart and brave and brilliant and perfect and they can join the polycule with me and my girlfriend who are both so so sorry we did not pay enough attention to you and accidentally made you feel lonely that one time, please come back we miss you” and kagami can be like “youre so right but no thank u i have a new man who will treat me right by being so so annoying all of the time” do you understand

Do you also feel that the power to make sentimonsters could have easily been another power for the butterfly and no one would have batted an eye?

I mean technically the Butterfly kinda has done sentimonsters in a sense, as some akumas do get extra outside of them to act as a means of transportation and a boost of power and it works along their agenda.

Take something like Refleckdoll and you got to wonder, why is that a sentimonster and not just an add on to Refleckta? Because it acts as something for Reflckta to pilot so... why is it a sentimonster?

Another factor is that sentimonsters are tied to emotions and Butterfly's power has long been tied to emotions, to a point I considered it more for Emotion than Transmission. So sentimonsters didn't really bring in anything new, aside from sentipeople which I really hate, especially the insistence that they're actually people. It kinda brings about a can of worms to question, like should a miraculous really have the power to just casually make life? Especially knowing that everything made is allve. Also if terminating that sentimonster is terminating life, does that make you a murderer? And the leads take out sentimonsters too so...

I just find it to be a really iffy power in how they went about it and how Thomas clarifies it.

I really think it would've been better for them if sentibeings (or whatever a friendlier term for them is) were just animated dolls/puppets, and depending on their creation can depend on how "alive" they are, but they're still not truly alive. They act out the role they were made for, they could be complex mentally and emotionally, but they're not truly alive. They don't need what true living things need, like eating and sleeping, nor do they fear termination, if anything may just stress about not continuing the role they were made for if it's not "done" for them. They're not flexible enough to deviate from what they were made for. And depending on the complexity of their creation and the role they're to play, they could end up quite problematic for their creator.

Like, I'm half joking and half serious of maybe thought that Lila should've been confirmed a sentibeing with all her wild lies and how everyone's IQ drops and at this point her lies are just off the walls bonkers (like seriously she's just a 13-14 yo what is going on with her???). Could be a Peacock was rivals with that ancient Fox, so made Lila in her likeness to cause her problems in her civilian life, and Lila never got dismissed so she existed on lying and being antagonistic and chaotic as that's what she was made to do and given this magical purpose, everyone is compelled to believe her and not think too hard about what she says. And she drifts to Paris drawn in by the miraculous activity, she works with HM cause he's causing chaos and may secretly plan to double cross him, she picks on Marinette as Marinette caught onto her lies, she targets Adrien cause Adrien's an easy target, ect..

Like, of all the characters to be confirmed to be a creation of the Peacock, I vote it should've been Lila cause everything with Lila is just wild. Her being this immortal gremlin and agent of chaos and made out of peer spite would make more sense than whatever is even going on with her.

Side note, this power is tied to making "life" which is form of creation, so, why isn't making sentibeings actually a Ladybug power as that's literally Creation? And can you imagine the relief Marinette could get learning that she could just make this efficient Ladybug doll that could do her job for her, she could take a break, keep the earrings safe, and just destress cause Sentibug is made to be the best LB hero out there and she's nailing.

Marinette just catches up on a week of sleep.

Just finished watching Trigun Stampede and its good to know that I am still absolutely feral for the estranged brothers trope.

And my god, Nai's behaviour reminded me so much of s5 Felix. The plot resemblance is so uncanny to me that I cannot not share.

I know you're gonna think I'm crazy for comparing a snot nosed gremlin with a seasoned killer, like someone's probably reading this and foaming at the mouth...

Alas, I have made a chart to make this explanation easier:

The most notable difference here is that Knives' happiness requires Vash's identity to be stripped. Knives only values Vash as an extension of himself and not as an individual. He is in love with the concept of a brother who supports his twisted ideals solidified by their childhood bond, and when he finds out that isn't true, destroys his life to make him see "reason". Probably loved Rem buts its buried under all that misanthropy.

Meanwhile, Felix cares for Adrien as a person but also disregards his autonomy by making decisions on his behalf. However, unlike Knives, Felix is amendable to keeping some humans around for the sake of Adrien's happiness. Felix's twin cousin-complex comes from a place of jealousy and situational projection.

In addition to being upset that Adrien has not fought for his freedom and seeks to liberate him. He is envious of his cousin's ability to make friends but is disgusted by his naivety and inability to think for himself (a past-pathetic version of himself under control).

To conclude, one is a psychotic narcissist who developed delusions of grandeur instead of healing from abuse while the other is a misguided, morally grey teen who also hasn't healed from abuse :(

Very different characters but the fundamentals are all there.

❥ The fic I agonized the most over is literally any fic in my Flowers Aren’t Always A Love Language series (especially Dreaming of Anenome) because I always try to put as much flower language in as possible to put a story within the story. Otherwise it’s An Angel With Demons Wings. I wrote that to get back into writing after a tough time and put a lot of pressure to get it perfect for my wonderful friend @tylindel whom I love. I did a lot of dancing research and made art to go with it.

I got overexcited and wrote all but one line of the second chapter. Of course this fic has ended early despite all the ideas left over as authors split so it remains forever unfinished.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

51 under my current account, though floating around AO3 are the fics I left up when I deleted my old account in a fit of rage (don’t ask 😅). So, 51 plus twenty or so under no name.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

208,386!

3. What fandoms do you write for?

I’m in a lot more fandoms than I’ve published writing for so I actually had to check AO3 to remind myself what I actually write fics for 😂 I have the most fics for Star Wars, though I currently mainly write for The Mysterious Benedict Society and BBC Merlin. I also had a brief Miraculous phase and a few scattered fics from random fandoms.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

1. Rebel Pilot (Star Wars) - Anakin Skywalker finds himself suddenly and inexplicably in a cell with Princess Leia Organa on the first Death Star. When he realizes he’s in the future, chaos ensues, revelations are made, and Luke is the ray of sunshine that keeps them all together. (Oh, and there’s a Skywalker family road trip to kill the emperor and save the galaxy)

2. Viral (Star Wars) - thirteen-year-old Anakin runs a Space Tik Tok account in which he films Obi-Wan doing random things and posts it. Obi-Wan has no idea who is running this horrible fan account.

3. This Part Was Not Foretold (Merlin) - Upon seeing Merlin doing magic, Arthur comes to the conclusion that his friend has been possessed by an evil sorcerer who must be stopped.

4. Jealousy, Jealousy (Miraculous) - Adrien, in an attempt to make Lila as jealous as Marinette as possible, blurts out that they are dating. They are not dating. (But maybe they soon will be 👀) (also SERIOUSLY there’s a miraculous fic in my top five? That was like. My most embarrassing hyperfixation ever. Can we just forget that happened??)

5. Pen Pals Across Time (Star Wars) - Ahsoka convinces Anakin and Obi-Wan to write letters to their future selves. You know, as an exercise. But then the Force sends the letters. Chaos ensues.

Well, this was a real reminder that I did not always peacefully exist within the quaint, whimsical, slightly chaotic fandom that is The Mysterious Benedict Society. For this game, I have ventured beyond the secure perimeter. But as an honorable mention, this is my most popular TMBS fic by kudos:

The Two Mr. Benedicts - Constance uses naming confusion regarding Mr. Benedict and his redeemed twin brother to be a chaotic little gremlin.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Always! I want them to know I appreciate that they took the time to let me know they enjoyed my work, as this motivates me to write more in the future. Sometimes I may take a slight while, but I always do it!

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I almost ALWAYS give my angst happy endings. I was only able to find a SINGULAR FIC with an angsty ending out of all my fics! Our Forgotten Bond is a Star Wars fic about Anakin being brainwashed into attacking Ahsoka and only remembering who he is after he killed her. Yeah. Ouch. I only wrote it because of Angstpril that year okay 😭

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

All of them? Even my angst tends to end happy. Half my fics are just crack so whether the ending is happy is irrelevant. Most of my fics have satisfying endings 😅 I can’t pick one!

8. Do you get hate on your fic?

People used to give me annoyingly critical analyses on my Merlin fics, which I deleted bc they weren’t worth my time. But especially since I’ve been mainly in the TMBS fandom, everyone’s been super supportive!

9. Do you write smut?

Nope. G and T ratings only around here!

10. Do you write crossovers?

Yes, but all of mine are WIPs right now with varyingly recent updates 😅

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes, someone offered to translate Revel Pilot into a language. I cannot remember what language and when I look at its name in the characters of the original I can’t read it and I don’t want to guess and be wrong and offensive so. A Language

13. Have you ever co-written a fic?

I used to do writing circles on discord where we’d take turns writing portions of the story, so if that counts, then yes! You can tell which ones they are on AO3 because they have a ton of authors lol.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

Yikes. Anidala, I believe. Or perhaps Percabeth. Huge sokeefe shipper. Jorgen/Spensa heals me. This question hurts me.

15. What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

My Anidala cutting edge AU. I just wish someone else would write it 😭 I love it but cannot create it right now or possibly ever.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue, and when I put thought into it, prose. I’m good at character introspection and understanding of their relationships. Also, humor—I can make fics hilarious way easier than I can make them touching. (Yes, I think I’m funny. No, I don’t care if you disagree 😂)

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Action scenes and planning of long plot lines. Also, keeping a serious fic from devolving into crack.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I’m comfortable doing it in Spanish bc I know it, I feel anxious when using google translate for other languages, and as far as fictional languages go (such as Mando’a in SW fics or the language of the Old Religion in Merlin fics) I just copy and paste things from the internet!

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Bet you think the answer is going to be Star Wars, huh? Nope. Keeper of the Lost Cities. When I was ten. On Wattpad. Don’t go looking for it.

20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?

AH NO DONT MAKE ME CHOOSE. I’m a particular fan of Rewriting Destiny (my Star Wars/Merlin crossover), Things my heart still needs to know (my Newsies/Anastasia crossover), and Holding On to You (one of my many TMBS Benedict Twins fics!)

Has your opinion on Adrien changed after watching those episodes?

No. My opinion of him tanked long before I was fully apart of this fandom. All it did was reinforce how much I hate the writers. They shoehorn in pointless ass fights, bickering, half assed ideas, and it just pisses me off. Also, I'm more forgiving of his actions than Marinette's. Why to all this? Well...

One. The stalking vs not taking no for an answer. I'm judging these two as they are by far the worst traits imo the pair have. So, I'm more forgiving on Adrien's part as he's supposed to be a 14 year old boy. I dunno what 14 year old boys you've meet, but the fucking shitheads I get to hear about from my friend's girls (12 and 13) they are fucking morons that can't take a hint. Is it right? Fuck no, but I can overlook it more than fucking stalking. I don't care what people may think, but stalking is abusive behavior. Even if the victim is unaware, it is still abuse. Even the gremlin children agree and dont like Marinette for that reason either. I get she eased up on it and it was played for laughs, until Derision. And I'm very well aware everyone responds to trauma, but show writers, up yours!

Two, focus. So, this comes to Marinette being the main lead and she's the main focus. Unless you're Alya, you don't get much focus, this includes Adrien. Sure we get moments, but nothing we can linger on. Things are brought up, resolved, and we return to status quo, until season 4, kinda. Nonetheless, Adrien is quite honestly just another background character to me. A far cry from what we initially saw in earlier seasons.

And three, forgive me for I am sinning, but Adrien really is just the trophy boyfriend. I do disagree with Astruc saying he's Marinette's Ken because that is such an insult to Ken. Ken at least is more than just Barbie's arm candy, unlike Adrien who honestly just needs to look pretty and be nice. But for all the attempts at "development" I just see a boy turned into a prize just as Luka was made to be cardboard.

So, no, my opinion hasn't changed. Adrien simply exists and all those episodes showed me was how much more I hated the writing and presentation of Adrien through shitty ass writing.

Another day another lie, Marinette turned up the volume on her headphones and walked a little faster towards the café. With practiced ease she dodged the subtle jabs and cold stares. The current lie had been printed in papers for all to see, she was a homewrecker. Someone had spotted her leaving Jagged's apartment while Penny was out, while last week it had been Adrien's and before that it was the eldest Wayne's. At least Adrien was her friend and actually her age.

She entered the café and sighed, finally she was safe from the cold eyes judging her every blink. The owners here knew her and not only had they threatened legal action against the media if they were caught harassing any customers, but they had also installed tinting on all the windows to make it impossible to look in. They also treated her just the same as any other customer, it was relaxing. Still she selected a back booth with clear escapes routes.

She had only just sat with her coffee when a tall women with long dark hair and a bright maxi skirt approached, “Is this seat free?”

“I am sorry but I am meeting….” She cut herself off as she recognized the bright blue eyes of her best friend and smiled, “you, I am meeting you.”

“That seems rather convenient now doesn’t it?”

“I missed you Birdie.”

“Missed you too bug, been getting harder to escape reporters “

She sighed and glanced at the pack just waiting for her to leave. “Is it wrong of me to hope for a new super villain to distract them?”

“Nette, no”

“Nette, yes.” Mischief flashed briefly across her face before she smoothed it into something neutral, “It would only be for a month, maybe two, than Ladybug would swoop in to defeat me.”

Her friend had the audacity to laugh, “You don’t swoop.”

There was a pleasant thud as her head hit the table, “I know, swooping is trademarked by your family, bit this is exhausting. How am I supposed to keep clients when every consultation ends as a front page scandal?” Dexterous fingers pried her chin up and forced her to look at her coffee, “Sorry Tim, this is supposed to be us time, work stays at the door.”

He laughed quietly before dramatically pouting, “Here I am all dressed up pretty just for you and not one single compliment.”

She sat up straight and made an obvious show of studying his outfit. “You do look very pretty, is that skirt one of mine?”

“Of course, who else includes pockets?”

“Oh, I have a list if you want.” She pulled out her phone already knowing she would have no need for it. “If you had let me know you were interested in skirts I could have made you some in your colours so you wouldn’t have needed to steal one of Steph’s.”

“Maybe next time.” He placed a hand over hers, forcing the phone down. “Seriously though Nette, anything you need, I am here for you.” He paused, “Unless it is murder, than you need Jay or The Gremlin.”

“I thought they were reformed.”

“They are, but I am positive they would do it if you promised to bake them pastries.”

This brought a more genuine laugh to her lips, “Thanks love, but you know me, I have a plan. I just had to step up the timeline a bit.”

“Your going to do a reveal?” His eyes were wide. She couldn’t tell if it was from anticipation or shock. “Are you aiming for fashion week or a private show?”

She took a wistful drink before settling on her words, “If fashion week wasn’t months away I would wait. I just can’t deal with this palatable hatred for that long.” His hands tightened on hers, he could probably tell she was close to a panic attack. “I have enough designs ready right now, and enough of my friends owe me favours that I will have no shortage of models.”

“Than what do you need?”

“A venue. The good ones are either all booked or cost more than I think they’re worth.”

Tim started to massage her palm, “Did you forget that I am rich?”

“I don’t want the press to label you as another member of my harem.”

His phone dinged and he pulled it out with a flourish, “Look at that, I appear to have placed a rather large commission and paid in advance.”

Her phone lit up with the request, “You already knew this would be my plan and figured out where it would fall apart. How did you time it so well?”

“I keyed a timer to start when I said a certain sentence.”

“You are ridiculous.”

He hummed as he took a drink of her rapidly cooling coffee. “But you love me anyway.”

“I do.”

“You forgot the most important part.”

“Did I now?” Is this what being relaxed felt like?

“Be it hate, rumors or glares, why should we care? None of them actually know us.” She blushed at the affection radiating off of him. “They don’t know how much you care about everyone, how much of yourself you put into everything you do. Hi Cat! May I ask you to rank S5 episodes aired so far? and what did you like the most about each of them?

Finally getting around to answering this now that s5 is officially over. Overall, I'd say s5 was definitely not as bad as people have made it out to be, and I'll share my full thoughts on it later and go over some of the notes I took upon rewatching, but I'd say this season on average was pretty mid? Adrinette hard carried a lot of episodes that otherwise were just okay. Again, I've said it a bunch, and I'll say it a bunch more times, ML's biggest problem is pacing. S5 is probably the most ambitious season of this show by far, and they crammed a shit ton into this one season that would have been more digestible if it were spread out I think.

But anywho, I'll discuss more later. For now, here is my episode rankings for season 5! The ratings are rough, and I will likely adjust them to be a bit more specific when I eventually do my complete episode ranking with all the other seasons, but for now these ratings correspond to how I relate just the s5 episodes to each other. None of them got a 10, and tbh most of these eps sit around 6-7/10, so ranking them was actually kind of hard because as I said, Adrinette hard carried some of these eps, and I just did not care for the other things going on in them. Okay, here we go:

Protection: 9.5/10

Anyone who knows me or is in any way familiar with me probably knows why this episode is here. The picnic will go down as one of Adrinette's iconic moments. The whole set-up was incredibly sweet, and I could stare at that scene for hours.

2. Emotion: 9/10

Outside of thinking that Felix should have come back sooner and that perhaps this should have been the mid-season conflict rather than the Kwami's Choice eps (I'll talk more about why in another post eventually), I really liked this episode. I love how much Marinette has grown. I enjoyed Felix being a lil gremlin man. Idk, I liked it.

3. Elation: 8.5/10

"Cat, but you always shit talk MC-"

Incorrect. I shit talk toxic stans. I'd be lying if I said seeing those two losers kiss didn't make me feel things. I also appreciated the realness of this ep on why they couldn't be together, and that Chat Noir/Adrien had enough respect for Marinette to realize that there was a power imbalance between them. It was very sexy of him.

4. Revolution: 8.5/10

This one honestly surprised me being this high, but so much shit happened in this episode. Like I needed to sit for a sec after watching it because it was a lot to process. While I was rewatching it, I had moments where I was like wait, is this a new episode? But then I'd remember, nope. It's still the same one where all this other shit happened. And weirdly, it didn't feel too rushed? A lot of episodes this season felt like they were moving a million miles a minute and rushing to get to the point, but I felt like for as much shit as went down in this episode, it flowed pretty well.

Also, I'm Adrinette trash so of course I'm gonna rank their first kiss high fucking sue me

Also, hardly anyone talked about the LadyNoir power up! Like hello???

5. Deflagration: 8/10

I know I just dunked on the Kwami's Choice arc, and I will probably do it again because these two episodes were HARD carried by Adrinette. I didn't care about Kitty Noire or Scarabella at all. Their fight was lame, why the fuck did they start talking like that, just, ugh-anyway. I felt like part 2 was the stronger of the two episodes, and not just because of the Ladrien crumb! (though the ladrien crumb was v nice) I enjoyed the Resistance swooping in to help. I enjoyed Marinette outsmarting Gabriel. I enjoyed Adrien ripping the earrings off his dad like how dare you touch her things, you crusty eggplant. I liked the Adrinette scene in the cafeteria. I dunno. I don't think giving up their Miraculous was really necessary, but I appreciated several of the moments in this episode.

6. Passion: 8/10

So, in prior seasons I came to really not care for Nathalie when she was simping for Gabriel, but I gained a lot more respect for her this season. I just kind of wish she'd been like that from the beginning. There to make sure Gabriel doesn't go too far, someone to love Adrien and carry out his and Emilie's wishes. I wouldn't have minded even if GabeNath happened as a result if they were able to talk Gabriel down from his madness and truly let Emilie go in the end. But alas, we didn't. I loved the Adrinette moment in this episode where Adrien just immediately tells her what's wrong. It was such a huge step for him as someone who usually just buries his feelings. And the kwami swap was much better this go round.

7. Jubilation: 7.5/10

My cat is sleeping on my notes, but I remember enjoying this episode. A thought that I had in regards to the fantasy that they saw is that the gift sees beyond the masks, even if they don't. Like, yes, of course they want a life together because they're soulmates. They just can't quite see the whole picture yet. Idk how to explain it, but anyway, it was a cute episode. The nightmare children need to be burned at the stake, but overall, it was nice.

8. Transmission: 7.5/10

Listen. I did not give a single fuck about the new heroes, and their battle was very anticlimactic and lame, but god dammit, the Adrinette in this episode! Adrien audibly recognizing he shouldn't have played with her feelings as Chat Noir. Him seeing his photos in her trash can and telling her he loves her! The motherfucking hand game! Nothing else happened in that ep. It was just them.

9. Determination: 7.5/10

I absolutely loved seeing Adrinette go all pink sparkles when he looked at Marinette, and how Kagami was like stop being a fucking wuss and ask her on a date. As much as I cannot with the statue scene, I loved that Adrien was just like lol yeahhh you kissed me, it was kind of awesome. Like baby boy XD I liked him being lowkey jealous and wanting to be more with Marinette and trying his damnedest to get closer to her when she was freaking out. His patience with her this season has been so sweet.

LN stans can roast me all they want, idc, but I have a lot of thoughts about her switching her affection to CN. Not to say that she doesn't genuinely have feelings for him because I think she definitely does deep down, but I have always seen her pursuit of him this season as a means to run away from her problems. (i.e. her feelings for Adrien) Because she never got over Adrien, and that much was obvious. And Alya even called her on her bullshit. Marinette was trying to force herself to stop loving Adrien by throwing herself at Chat Noir, and while her feelings for him might stem from a genuine place of love for him, she was trying to love him for the wrong reasons. Rather than it being a natural thing, it felt very much like she was only doing it because she thought it would be easier, and she was refusing to face and process what had happened as a result of her loving Adrien. I just wish that the reversal were handled differently. She can and absolutely does love Chat Noir, but in this context, it just felt a little cheap to me. Not as genuine because she was still clearly hung up on Adrien and avoiding that.

10. Multiplication: 7/10

We have reached 6-7/10 territory. A loooot of eps are in this range, so it was actually pretty difficult to rank. I went solely on vibes for this section. Any single scene that sticks out in my memory for each episode were the breaking points on these.

Idk why, but I liked this episode. I loved the scenes of Adrien trying to greet Marinette. I loved everyone getting progressively more bored with waiting for Monarch to show up again. It was cute.

11. Derision: 7/10

Do I think this backstory should have come way, way, way, WAY sooner? Yes. Like s1-s2 sooner. Did I still slurp up all of the Adrinette anyway? ...Well, I'm only human.

12. Evolution: 7/10

I actually skipped this episode in my rewatch to save time because I know it's solid. Bunny Cat was cute. Seeing Gabriel fucking wreck himself because he's an idiot was funny. Alix being the GOAT was fun. Yeah. It was a nice start to the season.

13. Pretension: 7/10

I'm not a Feligami hater like some people. I think it was a bit rushed, but I think that's more of an issue with ML's general struggle with pacing rather than a reflection on the viability of their relationship. I liked seeing how Felix has a softer side because he was always meant to be morally grey. Emotion talked about that a little bit. He had no dog in the fight between Gabriel and LB/CN. He has his own motives for doing what he does, and he's not a bad person, just has done some questionable things to get what he wants. And I think Kagami would be good for him. I loved her roasting him and kicking his ass (and he loved it too).

14. Confrontation: 6.5/10

As the pilot of the Lila downfall plane, you'd think this episode would rank higher, but like, listen. Was Marinette's plan very sneaky and big brained? Yes. Did I enjoy seeing them get caught? Yes. Did this shit need to happen way sooner? Yes! The fact that Alya said with her whole chest in the episode before, "You know we're always ready to believe you." When she fucking wasn't? Like, bitch, your bestie is LADYBUG. Perhaps if she doesn't like someone, recognize that it's for a good ass reason? And I hated how dismissive they were of Adrien when he tried to speak up in that scene too. My honest reaction to Lila being outed was just fucking finally. I rank this one lower as well because they cut a small moment that I wish they fucking hadn't where everyone apologizes to and hugs Marinette after they're exposed. Because they fucking gaslit her for months about this bitch, and she absolutely deserved that apology!

15. Collusion: 6/10

Ya know, I'm not much one to care about Andre. They really tried to paint him as a victim this season, and I just was not there for it. It's okay for him to just suck too. They're all rich, sucky people. It's okay to just say that.

A note I did make that I might talk about later is on the topic of Chloe and her alleged redemption that everyone is mad about and how Astruc just hates Chloe, and I'm not going to say he doesn't. I just think that overall what happened there is when they started planning out future seasons, it was more plot convenient for her to be mean than it was for them to put in the effort to redeem her fully. And looking at some of the other redemptions they've done in this show, we know they would have botched it anyway. They kept her mean because it served their purposes for making things happen. That's it.

16. Revelation: 6/10

For reasons mentioned above in Confrontation, I ranked this episode lower because I wanted to fucking strangle everyone. Everyone in that god damn class knows Chloe is a bitch and always will be. The fact that they all turned on Marinette, including fucking Alya who knows she's FUCKING LADYBUG just ugh. Honestly, when their future plans got fucked in the next episode, I was lowkey like GOOD. Suffer, dumbass bitches! It's what you get! But I'm also just really petty, and I wanted to see Lila finally get shut the fuck up.

17. Adoration: 6/10

This one was fine? Let's go lesbians, I guess. Idk, in comparison to the myriad of other shit going on in s5, this one just felt like filler. Gabriel is an asshole, what else is new? I kind of wish Marinette got a better confession, since, ya know, we've been waiting for it since s1. I wish it were a bigger moment and more heartfelt, but like, eh, I guess.

18. Intuition: 6/10

Seeing Gabriel fuck himself over was nice. Other than that, it was just okay. Get dunked on, you moldy cheeto dust of a human being.

19. Perfection: 6/10

"Cat, did you rank this episode this low because of Adrien's cringy-ass song?"

AND I'D DO IT AGAIN! And the fight was kinda boring. I love Kagami, and she deserved the love in the end, but like c'mon.

20. Illusion: 6/10

A big thing I noted from this episode that became kind of a recurring thing throughout s5 is the illusion of choice. I'll talk more about it in my s5 analysis, but I think that illusion of choice extends to Gabriel's wish too in the end. I did love Nathalie fucking bodying him the second Adrien walked away. It's what he deserves.

21. Destruction: 6/10

This one was fine, I guess. I wasn't super into the format of it being a flashback that Marinette was explaining to Alya at their sleepover after the fact? And that it kind of just glossed over them Cataclysming Monarch, since that was kind of an important thing for this season. ML made some weird choices for big moments throughout this season that kind of cheapened the impact, imo. Idk. Baby girl is smart and all that, we been knew.

22. Representation: 5.5/10

Adrien fighting his dad was the highlight of this episode. You go off, king. The play was incredibly info-dumpy, and I feel like this information should have been spread out more organically. Rather than hinting at all of this shit in s3-4, they should have just sprinkled in these details as actual confirmation back then rather than dumping it all in our laps now.

23. Reunion: 5/10

Listen, this episode wasn't bad, and Adrien being a horse girl is funny, but in the context of this season and compared to the other episodes, this one is honestly just filler. Like, it's cool lore, but feels a bit out of place in this season, especially because she didn't call on her past holders for advice on how to like, idk fight her villain, she called on her for love advice. Just felt very unserious in the context of this season.

24. Conformation: 5/10

This one was fine-ish? The whole finale is definitely the weakest finale we've had. And I've ranked Miracle Queen in my bottom 10, yall. This is saying something. I'll go ahead and continue in my next point because

25. Re-Creation: 4.5/10

Both of the finale eps were just... They happened? I feel like they were pulling at too many threads bringing in everyone the way they did. I feel like the perfect alliance thing was an okay choice? I kind of dislike that Adrien was just no where to be fucking seen for most of these episodes. I know a lot of people are upset that he doesn't know about his dad, and there was no reveal between him and Marinette. Which, no identity reveal, I can live with, but I feel like letting Gabriel make his wish was such a weird choice. I'll talk more about it later, but we've been following this show since s1 and rooting for Ladybug and Chat Noir, and they just let the villain get what he wanted? And you can argue that he didn't really get what he wanted because he died or whatever, but like he got the Miraculouses and made a wish. Stop being obtuse about it. Like what is the ultimate lesson here? What's the message? I'm willing to give s6 a chance, but my future with this show is going to depend on how they unpack some of the fallout of this finale.

And for those arguing over Emilie v Amelie in the ending scene, it was Emilie in the original script and storyboard, and her memorial statue is gone, meaning they no longer have to memorialize her because she's not dead, so unless they randomly decided to not bring her back last minute, that bitch is his mom. Also, they removed a scene where she and Adrien smile at each other, but I digress

26. Migration: 4/10

I'm not going to explain this one, but anyone that knows me, knows why this one is here, and why I didn't care about this episode.

Anywho, my biggest takeaways from this season were that it was a bit too ambitious at times, and I think in general it lacked a lot of the heart of ML. Big moments we've been waiting for fell flat because they got lost in the mess of them trying to cram storylines we should have been getting this whole time into one season. It's not a bad season, and I think it is definitely a step in the right direction. ML just needs to get better about pacing its story arcs so that it maximizes its time and doesn't have to rush through shit to get their point across.

Top 10 Favorite Miraculous Episodes

So, I wanted to do a list of my top 10 favorite episodes of Miraculous so far. I like making lists, sooo why not? :D

1. Chat Blanc

I know there’s definitely people in the fandom who stopped liking this episode a whole lot and considering it the best. But, I still do!

I’ve watched it probably 10 times at this point and I’ve cried just about every time. Seeing Adrien cry after the break up, breakdown in front of Ladybug and Hawk Moth, and yell at Ladybug about how she doesn’t love him anymore is just heartbreaking. I can’t not feel upset seeing Adrien this upset.

It’s such an emotionally heavy episode. Marinette and Adrien finally kiss (on the lips!!) and get together. Gabriel ruthlessly ends that relationship. Adrien learns his father is Hawk Moth and gets manipulated so, so badly. It’s such a well done plot, and the fact that it’s still impacting Marinette and affecting how she treats Cat Noir is insane. The fact that Cat Noir ended the world with his sadness is insane.

Minor detail, but it also was the start of the “Little Kitty on a Roof” song. A song that became a cute, comforting song for Adrien while he’s dealing with stress and loneliness. I lost it when it popped up again in Felix.

2. Wishmaker

If you’ve followed me for a while, you know I’ve written about this episode so many times. Well here we go again!

It’s so underrated. I was in the midst of working a god awful job when this episode came out, and I never related to any Miraculous episode so deeply. Ever.

It talks so much about being passionate about your work and why it’s important to a lot of people that their work is meaningful for them. We get Andre’s full backstory on him hating his office job and finding his passion for ice cream and bringing people together. I love it, I love it, I love it.

Also, learning Adrien has been controlled his entire life by his parents was just as sad as everything he endured in Chat Blanc. It was already suspicious that he didn’t have a childhood dream, but still the biggest shock ever when he turned into himself when he got hit by Wishmaker. I couldn’t stop crying after I first watched that scene.

3. Glaciator

This episode is just…a classic. I feel it sums up the entire love square concept in one episode. They don’t know each other’s identities and end up ditching each other for each other because they love each other’s other identities. It’s an episode that both made the fandom love them but also get so irritated.

Cat Noir hopping onto Marinette’s balcony, opening up to her, and taking her to his romantic rooftop picnic without even thinking twice is incredibly wholesome. It really put a big spotlight on Adrien as a person.

It’s also what made me and a lot of the fandom absolutely love the Marichat ship. It was so unexpected that Cat Noir would choose to spend time and have a heart-to-heart with Marinette. They were already cute in Evillustrator, but this was 10x cuter.

4. Risk

This episode had me gasping so much. Risk’s power hit Marinette and Adrien the hardest since they’ve got so much going on in their personal lives. They really did things I was not expecting.

I - and many other fans - already know Adrien is in love with Marinette. But, the fact that a big risk for him is holding her hand and opening up to her about how unhappy he is being a model and being trapped was insane. Marinette reassuring him she understands and seeing him so genuinely happy after she told him that was so, so adorable.

I also loved seeing Adrien finally starting to stand up to his father, and yelling to himself about how he just wants to be his son. He also told off Lila again - no risk involved. Like, yes, Adrien. Simply yes.

Oh and then my favorite gremlin, Felix, makes a grand comeback and is actually kinda looking out for Adrien (despite there being some personal gain involved). And I still can’t believe he’s the first person other than Nathalie to know about Emilie being kept in the basement.

5. The Dark Owl

This episode is just so funny and clever. I can’t even count on hand how many times I’ve watched it. Plus, me and my best friend quote this one the most. That is why I’m ranking it so high up!

Mr. Owl is so ridiculous and I love how he relentlessly tries to be a hero. It’s actually easy to sympathize for him since it’s something he’s wanted to do ever since he was little. I also love how many times Ladybug and Cat Noir kept having to try and stop him. Nothing will ever beat Cardboard Girl.

Dark Owl was also so clever in how he projected a fake scene of dropping a bus onto a kitten, humiliating Ladybug and Cat Noir. And, also in how he captured them in whipped cream. Like, no one else would think of something like that!

Also his akumatized object wasn’t even near him, it was in his office! The fact that Ladybug had to fly all the way to his office was crazy, and she was ridiculously close to getting her miraculous pulled off.

Not just props to Dark Owl, I enjoyed how clever Ladybug and Cat Noir were too! That plan of closing their eyes to feed their kwamis (the scene when Plagg and Tikki learned about the love square!!) and then giving Hawk Moth the fake miraculous Ladybug had used in her Cardboard Girl situation was very clever.

6. Strikeback

What a beautiful season finale. Oh my goodness.

There was so much angst in this episode. Ladybug and Cat Noir fought. Ladybug had another flashback of Chat Blanc.

Also, Felix landing the opportunity of getting a miraculous - the one that obtains other objects like a pokeball- was fantastic. His hero design was wonderful, and he knew exactly how to get what he wanted, thanks to getting that miraculous.

I loved the two ending scenes: Adrien comforting Ladybug and keeping her safe during her anxiety attack, and Ladybug and Cat Noir hugging. It’s not because I want to see Marinette upset and crying, but because it’s such good representation of anxiety, and having the person she loves comfort her both in and out of costume is incredible.

7. Stormy Weather

This is the very first episode of Miraculous I ever watched. God bless.

Not only is it nostalgic for me, but it’s a genuinely good episode! Ladybug and Cat Noir worked so well together in this episode. Cat Noir had his awesome night vision and that cataclysm run he did. Ladybug had a very, very clever idea for the lucky charm.

I also love the scene when Cat Noir first interacts with Stormy Weather. He keeps making jokes and puns simply to irritate her. So incredibly on brand for him.

8. Glaciator 2

I loved the first, I love the second. I was so sure the romance was gonna be gone for good in the Marichat ship after Weredad. Nope. This episode ignited it again.

Marinette practicing her confession on her crush who she doesn’t realize is her crush is hysterical. Even funnier than the first Glaciator episode. And the fact that Cat Noir laughed at it, and Kagami was the one who egged her to do it all based on a manga made it even better.

But, the cutest parts were definitely them going on a movie date and then Cat Noir leaving the fight to rehearse with Marinette again, definitely falling for her after hearing the unscripted version of her confession. I like how close they became in this episode. They instinctively act like friends because they know each other and see each other regularly but obviously can’t reveal that to each other.

9. Oblivio

I live for this because it’s direct proof of how much Marinette and Adrien love each other. They had their memories wiped and they very quickly came to the conclusion that they’re dating. Adrien admitted, “No wonder I fell in love with you.” They kissed.

I’m such a sucker for romance and this episode fills that void for me. It is so nice seeing the love square come together and they toyed with us in this episode with that.

I also thought it was so cool seeing the an akumatized victim form out of two people. It reminded me of a Steven Universe fusion. The crazy thing is that I was able to figure out it was Alya and Nino just based on the voice. You can hear two completely different voices if you pay very close attention.

10. Stone Heart Origins

Cheating a little and combining the two-parter into one lol.

This is the start of it all. The beginning of our OTP. The immaculate umbrella scene.

I will always find it funny how Marinette originally thought Adrien was some stupid bully who had the audacity to put chewing gum on her seat, and also how badly she didn’t want to become Ladybug. Then, in such a short span of time later, she tells off Hawk Moth, decides to keep saving Paris, and falls in love with Adrien after he apologizes.

What’s also funny but also really sad is that Adrien’s rebellious move was running off to school. He felt so alone and trapped that he felt going to the public high school would be his ticket out. Luckily, Gabriel finally ended up letting him attend, but his even bigger escape became his 2nd life as Cat Noir. He wanted to escape so bad, he didn’t even let Plagg finish telling him what he should be doing.

Honorable Mention: Rocketear

This episode - like Wishmaker - is also very underrated.

I cannot begin to tell you how many times I gasped watching this episode when it first premiered. I was floored when Nino revealed his and Alya’s hero identities to Adrien and shit talked Cat Noir to Adrien (unknowingly to Cat Noir’s face!!) It felt very out of character for Nino and I never expected their friendship to get jeopardized like that.

Nino getting akumatized was also devastating for Adrien and they did an excellent job at making that obvious. His tone of voice, his sad facial expressions, and him giving up his baton were all very telling that he absolutely did not want to fight his best friend. He cares a lot about Nino and it shows. Adrien was so hurt after everything that happened.

Aside from the emotion, it was pretty hilarious seeing Nino get jealous over a fake situation: Cat Noir and Alya being in love. The detective act was great, so was Cat Noir thinking he’s too charming which caused Alya to possibly crush on him.

Plot and characters aside, Zeno Robinson really shined in this episode. I wasn’t used to the change in Nino’s VA just yet, but he did a fantastic job in this episode. Bryce Papenbrook also did an amazing job putting a lot of emotion into Adrien’s voice, making him sound incredibly stressed and saddened.

Monster Roadtrip Hitchhiker Speculation/Wish List

I’ve been playing A LOT of Monster Roadtrip lately, and one of my favourite aspects about it are the hitchhikers and the conversations you can have with them While this series is usually so focused on its meta-aware humour and just sheer ridiculousness (and awfulness) of its characters, it’s honestly really interesting when they decide to shift focus on more down to earth and geniune moments for those characters. It’s honestly made me appreciate characters like Stu and Moss who I just thought of as nothing more than jokes, and showed that even they have more layers than one might have thought That’s not even mentioning all the things these convos do for the character that we already knew had a lot going on already. It’s just such a fun way to learn more about these insane characters (And also the lore? Which, I gotta be honest, I was not expecting this series to get into its own lore but I am eating it all up). The only problem is I wish there more hitchhikers to interact with... And so they’ve been releasing more of them! Via either free updates or paid DLCs, we’ve gotten even more of these guys to interact! We’ve got classics like Hope, entirely new characters like Adrien, and even Amira and Oz as hitchhikers  (At the time of me posting this, we’ll soon even be getting Brian and Vicky! My favourites of the original PCs so yay!) So, seeing as the team seems keen on giving us more hitchhikers via updates, I thought it’d be fun to speculate(dream out loud possible hitchikers we could meet on the road in the future 1: Faith 

The first Hitchhiker I immedaitely thought should be added was Faith. Can’t have the Coven with just two witches after all. Gotta complete the trio! Plus, since I feel Faith is the most down to earth member of the Coven, I’d love to hear her perspective on all the crazy magic stuff, foiling evil plans (and her evil alternate), and just in general all the weird stuff this group has gone through 2: The Interdimensional Prince

The hitchhiker convos are a great way to learn about the characters in this series, and oh boy do I want to learn the deal with this guy Also it’d be fun to learn if his goals of “Marry the first person he sees” have changed ever since the first game, especially seeing as character’s futures is a prevelent theme in Roadtrip 3: Batniss

(I did not realize her picture would be so small that’s adorable) Let’s move on over to Monster Camp! While Batniss was a bit of a joke character meant to take some jabs at common YA novel tropes in Camp, I think she could work spectacularly in Roadtrip Especially with the convos! Like, I’d love to learn what actually inspires this flying gremlin, it could easily turn a pretty obvious joke (just look at the name) into something a bit more interesting to dissect Also I bet her date ending polaroid would be really cute 4: Jerry 

(Okay so I guess these pictures I took were just smaller in general, go figure) I am honestly shocked Jerry wasn’t a hitchhiker in the base game Like, “dangerous hitchhiker” is a trope that fits this guy perfectly and I’d love to see how the team would play with that, mechanics wise anyways And yes he may be a bit antagonistic with a the threats od murder... and the actual murders... and everything that went on in that basement But still, he’s not... not a nice guy? So having convos with him could be a fun(?) way to learn what’s the deal with... you know, the murders

5: Jacqueline

Let’s round this wish list with some of the new characters introduced in Roadtrip! Jacqueline I’d say is definitively one of the break out stars of the new side characters, getting some pretty cool art shown off in the buildup of the game’s release and even getting her own Merkingdom style portrait Plus, with the convos we could learn a little more about the farm life in the Monster realm, since I can’t imagine that being easy at all... and I also really want to learn about her messed up side like that face made her infinitely scarier than Jerry in my book ye gods 6: Whiskey

While there were a lot of other characters I’d love to see explored more (Nu, Mamimi, and the Human from WTF comes to mind) I just love Whiskey so much you don’t even know The expression they gave him are amazing, his personality is magnificent, and just the general idea of him and his design make me love him I would love to get a date ending with this guy (could you imagine him and Juan getting together. That alone picture in my head justifies him in my eyes as a future hitchhiker) But yeah, those were some mons I’d love to see in the future of Roadtrip. I know some of them don’t have that high a chance of getting in as hitchhikers, but it’s fun to speculate still Would love to hear if there are any other suggestions for hitchhikers from the community

Lmao I still think about that cursed idea ask you got a few years back about the idea of Canon!Felix's father being Gabriel's twin brother, which is especially funny with the backing of science proving that if a set of twin females has a child with a pair of twin males, any children born for both pairings will be genetically brothers and sisters, if not identical twins themselves, which would explain Adrien and Felix’s looks if they weren’t sentimonsters. Not to mention that Amelie seems to be especially proud of her family lineage, so she could’ve had her husband agree to take the Graham de Vanily name to preserve it since Emilie took the Agrestes. What would you think of this scenario/family dynamic in a world where no sentimonster children were made/they were born as regular children XD

I'm already working off that. I'm completely ignoring canon's choice of doing feather babies. They don't exist in any of my works and will not exist in any future ones. It's part of the reason I'm glad Ladybug got that power in Miracle Worker, cause now I can skip that concept entirely. And even if I'm working canon, feather babies will just not be a thing. Adrien, Felix, and Kagami are all human.

IF senti people do exist in my work, it'd probably just be Adrien who's a senti, but I'd set it up that there was a real Adrien who died prior to the story setting, and grief stricken, Emilie recreated her son unable to deal with it, and she perished soon after. So Senti Adrien lives as the "perfect son", has fragmented memories, is dealing with a father who has mixed feelings on his existence, is gradually getting "destroyed" by wearing the Cat, but being near the Ladybug is "creating" something new with the senti, and between the two he's gradually becoming real than inhuman, and he has to come to terms he's not truly human nor is he truly Adrien, and where does that line draw? Who does he want to be? Is he truly Adrien? Does he want to even be Adrien?

This would be the only means Senti Adrien is a thing in my fics, and he's the only one, not Felix nor Kagami. At most, Senti Adrien, once real, could change his name to Felix to differentiate himself from Adrien.

Oh, actually, if really working off canon, Lila is the only other I'd make a senti, with her made long ago to terrorize the Ancient Fox hero, was never dismissed, and now she's an immortal magical gremlin, using her magical existence to enact her purpose to lie, manipulate, and terrorize people (and Marinette riles her up just because she's so similar to that Fox hero Lila was made to terrorize, so it's continuing her purpose).

Hiding in Plain Sight

[Here's a little something I cooked up for the Lovesquare Obsessed Discord server a few days ago. Enjoy!]

Gabriel sat straight up in bed at some-thirty in the morning and gasped. "Of course! That will be my next akuma. I'll be sure to win with that one!"

Nooroo rose up beside him from the bedside table, blinking and rubbing his eyes. He thought about asking his master about what new and crazy idea his subconscious had come up with, but he was honestly scared to ask. It was either going to be cringingly ridiculous, or dangerously devious, and Nooroo wasn't sure which was worse.

The next morning, Gabriel worked on his new designs for the coming fall season but he was impatient, constantly looking for the right person to accept his new akuma. It had to be someone who didn't want to make a big splash- most of his akumas that made a big splash got swiftly punched back down (where they belonged), and gained him nothing. His stealth akumas though… they had proven useful more than once. This one was going to be another stealth akuma- with the power to make kwamis reveal themselves. Gabriel was well aware of the kwamis' natural ability to shield themselves from technological detection, but while this power would also negate that ability, it should make it impossible for them to hide -at all.-

The akuma went out as planned, and that second- rate science teacher from Adrien's school became Kwamibuster 2.0. This time, however, instead of directly hunting the kwamis with her vacuum gun, she was given a device that forced them to reveal themselves. School had just let out for the day, but Gabriel was sure he would be hearing reports shortly about people seeing small floating animals about certain individuals. He grinned maliciously, imagining the coming fright and panic of the civilian identities of his nemeses.

Adrien was just getting the last of his things out of his locker before fencing when Plagg suddenly flew up out of his shirt pocket.

"Plagg!" Adrien hissed, grabbing him out of the air and looking around to see if anyone had noticed. Usually, the little cheese gremlin knew better than to come out at school unless he was sure they were alone, but he could still hear the chatter of other students and the occasional slam of a locker door. Luckily, no one seemed to have noticed, although he could see Marinette, with her beautifully flushed face, struggling with her little purse as if the clasp was broken. He spared her a sympathetic smile, shoving his kwami behind his back- a smile she returned in her usual flustered way.

Adrien turned back to his locker and opened the door as if he'd forgotten something and released Plagg inside.

"What are you doing?" He hissed quietly again. "Someone could have seen you!"

Instead of answering, Plagg made a break for the locker opening, but Adrien caught him with both hands before he could get out. The loud clap caused a little hush to fall.

"You okay, dude?" Nino asked, standing by the door with Alya.

"Fine!" Adrien blurted. "I just, uh… saw a mosquito."

"Really?" Alya asked, surprised.

Adrien felt himself flush, thankful for his complexion that usually didn't show much of a blush. "Yeah, it surprised me, too. It's been so cold lately."

Alya and Nino both shrugged and went back to their conversation, briefly moving aside as Marinette rushed past them and out the door, yelling something about being late for her bakery shift.

Adrien chuckled, momentarily forgetting about the kwami still caught in between his hands. Plagg squirmed, calling his attention back to him and Adrien turned back to the locker.

"What was that?!" He demanded quietly.

Plagg kept squirming, but the uncharacteristic expression of discomfort and panic caught Adrien's attention.

"Something's wrong, Adrien," Plagg whined. "I can't… I can't hide! I -have- to get out in the open! I -need- people to see me!"*

Adrien thought fast. "It has to be an akuma, right? Unless there's some weird kwami reason for this?" Plagg shook his little head, still struggling to get free. "Okay."

Adrien looked around- the locker room had cleared out and the rest of the fencing team had yet to arrive. He went over to one of the windows and opened it.

"If you have to be seen, fine. Go fly around the Eiffel Tower, okay? I'll get to you as soon as I can, but since no akuma alert has gone off, I can't skip fencing. I'll probably have to go back to my house first, too, but don't worry, I can sneak out without you."

Plagg nodded. "I'll do my best to stay there, kid, but if this is an akuma…"

"I know. Hopefully we won't need Multimouse to rescue you this time."

He let Plagg go, and the kwami of destruction darted up and out the window, making a beeline for the Eiffel Tower.

Marinette rushed out of the school as quickly as she could, holding her purse shut against Tikki's struggle to get out. Fortunately, the little bug had apparently forgotten she could simply -phase through- things.

Once outside, instead of heading for the bakery, Marinette ran behind the school building. She carefully looked for any observers before finally opening her purse to let Tikki out.

"Marinette!" Tikki almost shouted as soon as she was free. "Something's wrong!"

She flitted about, glancing every which way, and then made to zoom around the side of the building. Marinette caught her before she could, and though Tikki struggled, she couldn't break free.

"Let me go!" The frantic little kwami gasped. "I… People have to see me! Right now! It's important, I know it is!"

"I don't think so, Tikki. This has to be the work of Shadowmoth… somehow. I can't think of any other reason for you to suddenly want the whole world to see you. The question is… is it an akuma, or something else from the guardian's book?"

"I don't care what it is, just let me go! Marinette… please…"

Marinette groaned as Tikki turned the mother of all puppy eyes on her. "Tikkiiiiiii… You know I can't resist those eyes…" Holding tighter to the little embodied concept, she thought fast. "Okay. People have to be able to see you, right? Uh… Tourist traps! Those are usually full of people. And if this is also affecting Plagg, then Chat probably also knows about this problem. Now, I wonder…"

"Tikki, spots on!" Marinette cried.

Nothing happened. Marinette made a sound somewhere between a whimper and a gasp. "Oooooohhh, not again!" She whined.

It was worse than fighting Kwamibuster. Not only did she not know whether this was due to an akuma or something else, but she couldn't even transform, and she didn't even have any back-up kwamis! Although, if this was some plot to find and identify their civilian identities by seeing who went chasing after a kwami who suddenly revealed themselves, then having the back-up miraculousness available probably wouldn't help anyway.

Marinette started pacing, absently squeezing Tikki harder and harder with each pass until Tikki was squirming from more than the influence of whatever power was forcing her to try and reveal herself.

"Ouch! Marinette! Just because you're panicking does not mean you need to squeeze me so hard!"

"Sorry," Marinette muttered, loosening her grip. Unfortunately, that was enough for Tikki to finally dart away.

Marinette screeched in further panic, but before Tikki got too far away, she turned and called back, "Look for me at the Eiffel Tower!"

Adrien was nearly vibrating with pent-up anxiety by the time he got home after fencing. He'd made several mistakes during the practice hour, as distracted as he was, and Kagami had yelled at him to not waste her time (again), but on the whole he thought he'd done pretty well, considering.

Of course, his father had a different opinion. Adrien had just gotten to his room and his hand was literally on the window latch when Nathalie opened the door and clumsily walked in with the assistance of the server motors on her exoskeleton.

"Your father wants to see you, Adrien."

Adrien sighed and turned from the window, hoping his frustration-flushed face would be mistaken for a flush of exertion after fencing.

"Sure, Nathalie. Do you know why?"

"He didn't say," she said, after a momentary pause. It suddenly struck Adrien that there was something different about Nathalie. It had started right around the time he and Ladybug had gotten the Rabbit miraculous back from Shadowmoth, but it was a subtle change. There seemed to be an odd distance between his father and his personal assistant that hadn't been there before.

But whatever it was, it would have to wait. First he had to go speak to Gabriel and then he had to sneak out and find Plagg before the akuma did.

Gabriel was standing, as usual, on the raised platform that supported his standing desk. He really did like that aspect of his office design- it made him feel so powerful when he had occasion to look down on people. The fact that the person he was currently looking down on was his own (beloved) son made little difference.

"Adrien," he said, not noticing how Adrien's usual expression of careful neutrality had morphed into one of shock. "I've had disturbing reports about your performance in the fencing class. If you cannot do better, then I will be forced to remove you from school so you can spend your time focusing on the important things instead of wasting it with your so-called 'friends.'"

Adrien gulped, his eyes wide as they usually were when he threatened to take him out of school, and his voice shook a little as he said, "Of course… Father. I… will do better. I'm sorry."

Gabriel nodded dismissively and saved the final version of the design he'd been working during the short conversation. "Very well, you may go. But Adrien-"

His son froze and turned rather rigidly to stare at him- or rather, past his shoulder, but Gabriel decided he was probably too intimidated to look him in the face right now. … Perhaps he needed to encourage Adrien to grow a backbone, but it was surely too early for something like that. Adrien was still too young to be making his own decisions reliably.

"- don't forget," Gabriel warned, finally actually locking gazes with him. Somewhat to his surprise, Adrien stood a little straighter, staring back at him with sudden determination.

"I won't, Father. I will remember -everything-."

Gabriel once more nodded approvingly, and looked back down, hearing the office door open and shut nearly silently. He decided it was a good time to transform and check on Kwamibuster 2.0. Perhaps she had already cornered the panicked youngsters foolish enough to stand against him.

Adrien blessed his early training in remaining calm in front of cameras and paparazzi as he made his way past Nathalie's desk, which was now sitting -outside- of his father's office, and up the stairs to his room, his steps measured and sure instead of stumbling and frantic. Surely, surely he was hallucinating. His worry about Plagg had caused him to hallucinate.

That, plus his general low-level exhaustion must be getting to him. There was no way he -actually- saw what he'd seen, hovering over and behind his father in the office… right? It… It -had- to be an illusion. … Right?

But… it was an awfully detailed illusion, if that's what it was. Moreover, if it was an illusion, it didn't make any sense! Why would anyone make an illusion of a row of different kwamis hovering behind and over his father, each holding a tiny little placard with a word scrawled on it in different shades of paint, each word written in a different style, and some of them chinese characters instead of french words??

Adrien had actually recognized two of the kwamis- one was Kaalki, the horse, and the other was Sass, the one bound to the snake miraculous- he'd used that one himself several times, so he knew that one was at least an accurate representation. But the others… if he had to guess, it'd been a fox, a monkey, a bee, a pig? an ox, a rooster, a turtle, a mouse, and… a butterfly.

Each had been holding a little placard, and some of them held more than one, switching the boards once they were sure he'd read what they had written. "Gabriel is Hawkmoth. The akuma is Kwamibuster again. Tell Plagg and Ladyblogger- Ladybug must know." Adrien shut his bedroom door behind him, immediately sinking back against it with his eyes shut. It didn't help- the words were burned into his brain as if they'd been written in psychic acid instead of regular ink.

Plagg flitted quickly over the heads of the tourists gathered around the base of the Tower, slow enough to be seen, but quick enough not to get caught by any reaching hands. It wasn't long before something equally small and red smacked bodily into him.

"Plagg!" Tikki yelled, hugging him tightly.

"Tikki!" He also yelled, and hugged her back, although he took care to keep them moving above the crowd.

"I already hate this," Plagg added as the people below them took picture after picture… and something told Plagg that this time, they'd actually show up in the developed photos which was… not good.

"I know, me too. I had to leave my holder behind! And she couldn't even keep me there by transforming! This is going to be a big problem!"

"You're telling me… how am I supposed to get to my precious camembert stash if I have to stay where people besides my holder can see me?? Hardly anyone else ever goes into his room, and even if they did, I wouldn't trust them with his Chat identity!"

Tikki giggled at his typical divergence into cheese-related concerns, as he knew she would. They finally separated from their hug, but continued to fly around together. She was right- this was -very- dangerous. They'd faced an akuma that separated them from their holders before, but back then Marinette had had access to a whole box full of miraculous to use. Now, she had nothing but the rabbit, and that was too chancy to use- if Fluff was unaffected by this… curse, or whatever it was. Chances were, she was also flying around somewhere, compelled to seek out places where people could see her.

Adrien decided to put some of his unfortunate practice in stuffing down his true emotions into… practice… and sat down at his computer desk, pulling out his phone. He quickly activated a hidden app that Max had helped him find- and hide- from his father. It allowed him to choose which texts he sent could be read by anyone else but him (and someone else who both knew about the hidden app, and the password that protected it). This time, he used it to hide the series of texts he sent Alya.

Alya was, at first, incredulous and disbelieving, but when he started describing the kwamis he had seen, she suddenly became a lot more trusting. It begged several questions, but, once again, Adrien put that aside for later consideration. Probably much later. He had a breakdown scheduled for right after he and Ladybug (whoever she was behind the mask, which he might actually find out very soon now) finally took down Shadowmoth, a.k.a. his own father.

So.

Yeah.

He took a deep breath and pulled himself together. Again. No time to wallow now… must help Ladybug.

Somehow.

He finally shoved his phone in his pocket, and went over to the window, easily reaching the sill by shoving his foosball table over and climbing on that. He dropped down to the ground and took a strange path through the garden to the wall, to avoid the cameras.

Marinette was making her slow way over to the Eiffel Tower, nervously checking her phone every five seconds, and hoping she wasn't drawing too much attention to herself with her jumpiness. Everytime someone brushed up against her, she tensed. She'd taken her earrings off, putting them in a little pouch that she tucked into her bra- she had learned from meeting Fei in Shanghai, and she wasn't about to trust her miraculous in a small purse that could be snatched at any moment.

It was both fortunate and unfortunate that the closer she got to the tower, the thicker the crowd became. Fortunate, because she herself got lost in the press of bodies- no one would pay attention to one more teenager. Unfortunate because she was -short- and it was getting harder and harder to see what was going on over people's heads. Normally, she'd duck into an alley or a bus station and transform, but… well, that wasn't an option today.

Somehow she'd have to find her kwami, find the akuma, find her partner (who also couldn't transform, so you know, good luck with that), figure out how to transform, and purify the akuma. There might also be a few other steps in there, but she would wait for her lucky charm to figure those out.

Her phone started chiming, alerting her to a Ladyblog update. Most of the people around her also had phones that were chiming, vibrating, dinging, chirping, and otherwise alerting the people who owned them about an update. The pace of the crowd grew slower as most people pulled up the video and started playing it. Marinette did the same, the sound echoing oddly from the phones around her.

"Hey there Paris! It's me, the Ladyblogger, once more bringing you the scoop on what exactly is going on at the Eiffel Tower! I'm sure a lot of you are there right now, and have seen the two little creatures flying around over everyone's head. Well, apparently those are a couple of magical beings that help and guide our very own superheroes, Ladybug and Chat Noir!"

Marinette felt a very real chill go down her spine, even as the people around her quietly exclaimed. But the video went on, and she could only -pray- that Alya wouldn't give away -too- many miraculous secrets.

"It seems that these creatures are essential to our heroes success so far, but Shadowmoth has struck again, forcing them to abandon their chosen pupils and fly around like crazy people. The boy behind Chat Noir's mask has reached out to me, asking me to spread the word, because just like Heroe's Day a couple months ago, they need -our- help!"

At this point, Alya's image leaned closer to the camera, held up a hand beside her mouth as if telling a secret, and spoke softer. "And no, before anyone asks, I -don't- know who he is. He reached out anonymously, but he's given me enough details to be certain that he really is who he says he is."

Marinette felt a mix of frustration and relief at that- if Alya did know who Chat was, that would make it much easier to coordinate, using her as a go-between. But it was also a further danger, given that Alya already knew -her- identity, so it really was better that she didn't know. She was also really curious to know just what plan her kitty had come up with. Coming up with plans was her job, darn it! … But she had to admit that, given she didn't -have- a plan, it was nice to know he was stepping up, just like he'd promised to.

"So, here's what we've got to do. At the signal, which I'm told will be very obvious, everyone there at the tower should close their eyes and shout one of two things - either 'spots on' or 'claws out.' I'm… not sure -why- Chat Noir asked for us to shout those specific things, but apparently it's important that you choose one or the other, but not both. Supposedly, this will allow the guardian creatures to return to our heroes, once more helping them defeat the akuma of the day."

On the screen Alya shrugged, as if she really had no idea what significance those particular phrases held, and Marinette marvelled at both her calm and her acting ability. But then again, she -had- chosen her for the fox miraculous, and wielding the power of illusion required absolute confidence and strong belief in whatever illusion was created.

On the surface, Chat Noir's plan was actually quite brilliant. If they were both there in the crowd as civilians, having everyone close their eyes and shout their transformation phrase would essentially hide them in plain sight. Once transformed, they could each get away quickly, hopefully keeping their civilian identity a secret from those around them that still had their eyes closed. Really, there was only one problem with the plan. She'd already tried to transform with Tikki… and it hadn't worked.

"So that's it, folks! I know I can count on all of you out there at the tower to follow our very own Chat Noir's plan, right? Of course I can! We need to show Shadowmoth that we'll never let him win! Ladyblogger out!" The video ended on a still of Alya winking and waving, as usual.

Marinette put her phone away and moved with the flow of the crowd, wondering what to do. Everyone she could hear around her was talking about whether or not they were going to follow instructions. Most were on board with the plan, enthusiastic about the opportunity to participate in one of the heroe's big plans, but some were speculating on the why and wherefore and throwing out theories right and left. Some were even planning to follow instructions… but while holding up their phone to record what was happening during that time they had their eyes closed.

The thought of that had Marinette shivering. She got her phone back out and tapped a few quick messages to Alya. If Chat had contacted her anonymously, there might be a way to get him a message- he needed to know that some people were planning to record what happened, even if they didn't look, but what he most needed to know was that she'd already tried transforming and it hadn't worked.

Adrien didn't have time to go to Nino's house for a costume change, but he'd done his best to make himself inconspicous by raiding a clothing donation bin. He felt bad about it, but told himself that he'd take the time to donate some top-quality Gabriel gear after this was all over. Assuming anyone wanted to wear Gabriel-brand clothes after Chat Noir and Ladybug took him down, that is. … Maybe he'd go for a different designer. Clad in an oversize hoodie and slouchy jeans, Adrien made his way toward the Eiffel Tower. He himself ignored the video update of the Ladyblog, but others around him watched it, and he couldn't help but marvel at the way Alya spun things. He did wonder why she credited Chat Noir with the plan, though- he hadn't told her he was Chat Noir, just about the akuma and about his father being Hawkmoth. Then he'd told her to try and get in touch with Ladybug and Chat Noir, because if they needed to transform out in public, that was the safest way he could think of. At least having her credit the plan to his superhero persona would probably make people actually do it- and indeed, he did overhear people discussing the plan in a positive way. His phone started vibrating again, so he checked it, finding several messages from Alya.

[Did you see the video??]

[What did you think?]

[oh, and Ladybug reached out after the message went live]

[She said she already tried to transform with her kwami and it didn't work]

Adrien frowned. Well… that could be a problem. He typed a quick reply.

[That's probably a bad thing. Why are you telling me, though? Shouldn't you tell Chat Noir? It is his plan, after all. ;)]

Alya's reply came quickly.

[I know. That's why I'm telling you. ;)]

[Wait, what??]

[Listen sunshine, I know it's you. I've been following superheroes since I was six- reading comics, learning lore and backstories, following every hero and villain arc… I'm what you call genre-savvy. At this point, it's inevitable that you would turn out to be Chat Noir. For… a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that one of the main heroes being related to the main villain is practically a commandment.]

Adrien stared at that message. 'I mean, she's not -wrong-…' he thought. 'It's just weird that she figured it out through studying -other- hero/villain dynamics instead of personal information.'

He decided to push that aside (to join all the other world-shattering, life-changing things he was also ignoring for the moment), and try to come up with a better plan. Best to just not challenge Alya on her newfound knowledge.

[Alright fine, you got me. Moving on- Ladybug and I will probably have to find and break the akumatized object before we can transform, which means we'll need a way to secure the akuma, while also not calling attention to our civilian identities.]

He waited a strangely long time before Alya replied.

[Omg, you two are so precious! So in sync! Ladybug -just- texted me the same thing. Can I screenshot these and put them up on the Ladyblog after this is all over??]

Adrien smothered a smile. Of course his lovely partner would have thought of that… and of course Alya was going to fangirl over it.

[Of course she did] He finally sent back. [Maybe-]

He cut himself off as the three blinking dots indicated that Alya was typing again. Finally they stopped and her message came through.

[Okay sunshine, here's what we're gonna do…]

Gabriel sat in his office, glaring at the screen of his tablet. He was reduced to relying on news coverage of the crowd around the Eiffel Tower and couldn't control, communicate with, or even call back the akuma that had caused this little debacle.

For some reason, Kwamibuster 2.0 had decided to remove the ability to actually transform with a kwami along with all the ways kwamis could usually make sure they hid from casual sight. It was -very- irritating.

He was also thinking better of this particular plan because his -intention- was to put the civilian superheroes in a spotlight by removing their kwamis' ability to hide. Instead, what he got was two kwamis, separated from their miraculous and presumably their civilian holders, flying around the Eiffel Tower and getting him nothing at all!

The crowd there was too large to pick out any one person as belonging to those particular kwamis, and given the video that ridiculous Ladyblogger had put out, the likelihood of discovering their identity as they transformed was virtually nil. And that would have been the case even if they -could- have transformed. They could have hidden in plain sight, spoken their transformation phrases right along with everyone else, and then made their to the edges of the crowd before anyone around them started to suspect anything. … stupid teenagers. Why did they have to be so… so… not -clever- because they were only children after all. But they were something, that was for sure.

Nathalie opened the door to the office and didn't even look up from her tablet as she informed him of a scheduled video call with a prospective supplier of a particular lace he wanted to use in the upcoming line.

"Not now, Nathalie, I'm busy," he said, nodding to the coverage on his own screen.

"Very well sir. I should perhaps remind you that it took two months to set up this meeting in the first place." Her tone indicated she wasn't going to do anything to smooth over the rescheduling.

Gabriel sighed. He really needed to get Nathalie back on his side, and soon. "Fine. I'll take the call."

Nathalie actually looked up at that, her expression as neutral as it had ever been. Her eyes flicked briefly behind him, but she didn't say anything, simply nodding and shutting the door. A moment later a video call request box popped up over the news coverage, muting it. Gabriel sighed and clicked 'accept.'

"Good afternoon, Mr. Agreste," the representative said with a pleasant foreign accent, currently looking away from her own screen. Behind her, Gabriel could see a grey sky pouring rain. "I hope the weather in Paris is as beautiful as it is ugly here."

"The weather is fine," he replied shortly, glad he had long ago established a reputation for not liking to waste time on pleasantries unless it was a purely social event. "Now, the lace I require is lot number 9-5623-07A from the… what's wrong?"

The rep was staring wide eyed at her screen, blinking rapidly and rubbing her eyes as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing. Then her face changed and she smiled slightly. "Mr. Agreste, do you have any children?"

"I have a son. What of it?"

"Hm. You may want to check and see if they have applied any filters to your video software before you use it again. You have cute little animals hanging over your head on my screen."

Gabriel inhaled sharply, suddenly remembering his standing order over the kwamis to stay within arms reach of him. He mentally cursed himself, his akuma, and then himself again, for failing to force her to leave him and his kwamis out of the akuma's effects.

Then he forced a smile and replied (really quite calmly, considering), "I see. Well, I'm afraid I have no experience with such childish technological pranks nor how to undo them. Perhaps you would like to reschedule?"

"Oh, I'm fine with it, if you are. It will be one of the more enjoyable video calls I have made today. Now, you were repeating the lot number?"

It was a random civilian who discovered Kwamibuster 2.0 clinging to the underside of one of the bridges connecting the plaza around the tower to the rest of the city. Immediately, several people formed a human chain and tried to pull her up and out into view. Among them were several teens, including a boy who looked a little like a famous local teen model… if it hadn't been for his terrible fashion sense.

In seemingly no time at all, all of Kwamibuster's gadgets and gizmos were torn away from her and smashed on the ground, some people even going so far as to jump on them to make sure they broke. A dark butterfly flew up from one of them and almost immediately the tiny red bug-looking guardian creature swooped down on it and swallowed it whole. It then flew up high in the air and started glowing brightly. A moment later, with a loud burp, a white butterfly flew out of it's mouth and the creature did a victory flight over the crowd before zipping up over the rooftops and disappearing.

All in all, it was kind of anticlimactic for an akuma battle, but the crowd around the tower didn't seem to mind that, immediately congratulating each other on a job well done, and proudly posting their own personal involvement in the debacle on thier social media.

Adrien helped Marinette up from where she'd gotten knocked down in the stampede to destroy Kwamibuster's items after the crowd around Ms. Mendeleiev had cleared out a little.

"What's going on?" their science teacher asked in her queruolous voice. "Did I get akumatized again?"

"I'm afraid you did," Marinette said, brushing herself off. She was still a little flushed from her ordeal. "But don't worry, everything's okay now." She smiled encouragingly at the teacher, but Ms. Mendeleiev just huffed, got to her feet, and stalked off.

Adrien wanted to ask Marinette what she was doing there, perhaps even offer to escort her home… but he was feeling the pressure of everything he'd recently learned about his father, and plus, Plagg was probably waiting for him, so he didn't. He merely smiled again and said something about needing to get back before he was missed.

Marinette stuttered her response adorably as usual, and he really wished he wasn't the son of a supervillain. He didn't think she would hate him once she found out, but since he couldn't tell her he was Chat Noir, she- along with a bunch of other people- would probably think he'd at least known what Gabriel had been doing all this time. Yeah. Probably better not to do anything about his new found feelings. For a while at least.

Gabriel found out about Kwamibuster's defeat while he was still on the video call- to his continued aggravation.

"Oh, I see you figured out how to cancel the filter. Congratulations, Mr. Agreste," the rep praised him. "I must admit to be a little baffled by all these new things myself. I miss the little animals, though. They really were cute."

"Hardly professional, though," he answered coldly.

She had the temerity to wink at him. "Professional is as professional does. But as I was saying, it's simply not fiscally feasible to offer the lace at anything less than…"

That night, Chat Noir and Ladybug met up on a rooftop. It was a lot later than their usual patrol times, which tended to be in the early afternoons and evenings, but Chat Noir had messaged her, claiming it was an emergency.

"Milady, I'm glad you agreed to come," he said, for once not immediately making a pun or a flirty comment.

"Of course, kitty. Now, what's all this about?"

He took a deep breath. "Well… I know who Hawkmoth is."

I got some more dolls this month :)

These are made by Bandai. I wanted to have this long-haired version of Ladybug and another Chat to compare to my Playmates one. Plus the owner sold them for a pretty cheap price so I had to get them. They don't have their weapons though, but they do have kwamis. Chat's little bell fell off, and LB's hair is rather stiff, but I'll try to fix that.

Here are the two catboys and their Plaggs for comparison btw.

Some differences:

- B (BandaiChat) has a smaller bell that actually jingles. If it didn't, I could've had lost it. P's (PlaymatesChat) bell is just plastic 😔

- I don't know the names of the materials but B's costume feels more leathery, and P's suit consists of two materials - the leather-like one covering his torso and the fabric covering his limbs.

- P has fake zippers on his suit but his hands are bare for some reason, while B's hands are painted black.

- B's tail has more curl to it and looks S-shaped.

- P is coloured brighter, and his hair looks more like bananas. B is paler, and his hair is a bit darker and a bit more detailed.

- To me, P looks like he is high on catnip and B looks like he is deeply uncomfortable with eye contact but he is trying to be polite and looking at your forehead instead.

(And yeah, P despite me buying him in-box this summer already has some kind of purple stain on his cheek that doesn't come off with anything)

On the back they have copyright dates - 2020 for Playmates and 2016 for Bandai.

Overall, I don't which one I like more. They look like completely different people to me.

But I love that American Plagg is a little chaotic gremlin and Japanese Plagg is a big content cat the size of Adrien's head.
