More Light Than Heat, Chapter 19
To Watch Skyscrapers Tumble

masterpost
Isabella tried to be mentally present for the rehearsal Thursday but all she could think about, for the first time in her entire life, was how grateful she was that summer was almost over.  This, the last week of the season, had to be the longest week of her life.
There was no reason it should feel like it was crawling - she was certainly busy enough.  Between wrapping things up at her internship and handling last minute wedding details, she barely had time to breathe, let alone contemplate why Candace’s text Monday left her feeling so warm and fuzzy.
Rehearsal dinner Thurs, not Fri. Pescada.   And then, a few seconds later: Ferb’s idea.
And she still hadn’t processed that when Django had texted her Tuesday and told her he was sorry things didn’t work out for her and Phineas.  That he was heading back to school, but if she needed to talk, he was there for her.
She…didn’t think that boded well for Phineas, but she hadn’t had a chance to ask.
Plus, she had exactly one more day at her internship, when she would be evaluated for her work that summer and she’d be able to say, definitively, that she’d ruined her dream career before she’d ever had a chance to start.  She wanted it to be over.
She was so close , and she probably could have gotten out of the night without dealing with any of it, except she just had to step outside for a breath of fresh air and run directly into the Flynn-Fletcher boys arguing.
Later, she would blame it on the headache.  It wasn’t even entirely a lie - she hadn’t been sleeping well and, as low as they were trying to keep their voices, Phineas and Ferb squabbling was like a mallet to the skull.  But most of it was a sharp pain in her chest accompanied by that same voice she heard during the tournament.
Wrong wrong wrong.
“Phineas!” she barked, plunging them into blessed silence as the boys turned to look at her.  With a deep breath, she said, “Just tell him.”
Ferb’s brows furrowed.  Phineas blinked.  “Are you sure?”
She forced a chuckle, but it came out more strangled than she preferred.  “I’ve already ruined everything else this summer.  I refuse to tank Phineas-and-Ferb too.”
Crossing her arms, she wrinkled her nose against threatening tears, watching Phineas face his brother.  He opened his mouth, but snapped it shut before saying anything.  Holding up a single finger, he said, “You: hold that thought.”
He slid across the patio to stand in front of Isbella, clenched jaw failing to guard her.
“Hey,” he said, taking her elbows in his hands.  “What are you talking about?”
She buried her face in her hands, leaning into his touch.  She wanted to hold her own, she knew this was all her fault…but it was just so fucking heavy.
“I snapped at Marissa and she hates me now.”
“She’ll forgive you,” he answered, his voice soft.  “You don’t have to be perfect, Izzy.  Just apologize.”
“Even if she does now, I completely blew our collab.  I’m never going to get a job in journalism.”
He rubbed her arms gently, grounding her.  “One bad day isn’t going to ruin an entire summer of hard work.”
“And your parents!”  Her voice broke, but she was too devastated to be ashamed.  “They’re practically my second parents, and now we’ve broken up, and that’s down the drain…”
Phineas was smiling now, the twinkle in his eye suggesting he’d laugh if he didn’t think it would make things worse.  “Isabella, Mom and Dad loved you long before we started dating and will continue to do so until the sun explodes, just like me and Ferb.  You haven’t ruined-”
“I talked to Django.”
The words flew out of her with the force of a train and, based on how quickly Phineas’s expression shifted, they hit him just as hard.  After a beat, he swallowed hard, biting his lip and shaking his head.
“Don’t worry-”
“Phineas!  You have been the best friend a girl could ask for, you went along with this whole harebrained scheme to make me happy, and this is what you get?  To miss out on a chance at something real -”
“No,” he said, a finality to his voice that garnered no discussion, but he kept talking anyway.  “No, Isabella.  This is real.  What you and I have is real .  It’s not less important or less valuable because it’s not romantic.  I agreed to this because you’re my best friend and I love you, and I don’t regret it.  Not a bit.”  He paused, making sure to look directly in her eyes before continuing.  “We couldn’t have predicted how this summer would turn out, but I still would have chosen you.”
Even Isabella couldn’t say if the sound she emitted then was a laugh or a sob, but she wrapped her arms around Phineas’s neck and emoted into his shoulder.  It felt like a long time that they stood that way before Isabella pulled back and wiped her tears away with her thumb.
“It goes without saying,” she told him with a shaky breath, “But I love you too.”
He beamed.  “Yes.  Yes, you do.”
This time, she absolutely laughed before smacking him playfully on the arm.  “Well, go on.  Come clean to your brother.”
He nodded, hand slipping down her arm to grip her palm as he turned to face Ferb.  “Isabella and I didn’t actually break up.”
Ferb only looked more confused and Isabella couldn’t blame him.  She laughed.  “You don’t lead with that.  He means: we didn’t actually break up because we were never actually together.”
If anything, this confused Ferb more.  He looked slowly between the two of them until, finally, Isabella winced.
“Don’t be too mad at your brother, okay?  He wanted to let you in on it, but I just-”  She sighed, unsure how to finish that sentence.  “I haven’t liked him in forever, but everybody just assumed!  Making it impossible to date anybody else, so we just…”
“Faked it?”
“Yeah…”  She twirled a strand of hair around her finger.  “Thought we’d let it run its course and everyone would finally see that we don’t belong together.”  She met his eyes sheepishly.  “I’m sorry we lied to you, but-”
His mouth opened slowly, eyes wide in horror.  “I wasn’t listening.”
Isabella nodded, tilting her head.  She knew he was apologizing, and she hoped he knew she forgave him.  And there it was - the uptick of one side of his lips, the tiny smile that made it clear he understood.
Turning from her, he gave his brother his full attention, holding his gaze for a long moment.  “I’m sorry.”
Isabella felt the tension in the air and the hand she held even as Phineas shrugged.  “You were trying to protect Isabella.”
Isabella took a small step to the side, making room as Ferb approached him.  “But I love you too, and I should have been listening to what you wanted.”
With one last squeeze, Phineas dropped her hand and embraced his brother.  Smiling, she took another step back and a small pivot towards the restaurant, determined to let them have this moment.  She paused when she saw Jeremy waiting in the doorway.  There was no way to know how long he’d been standing there or how much he’d heard, but he waited until Phineas and Ferb stepped apart.
“Hey y’all,” he said.  “Candace’s Bar results just came in, and she wants everybody in there when she reads it.”
“We’re coming,” Isabella called back, answering for all of them.  Phineas nodded, clapped Ferb on the shoulder, and jogged inside.  Isabella giggled at his enthusiasm, ready to follow, but a light touch on her back stopped her.
“Ferb…”  She braced herself, but when she turned to him, her eyes fell on the phone he was offering her first.  Wide-eyed, she stared at the screen until it went black.  She could have unlocked it - she knew his passcode - but she didn’t need to.  She’d seen what he was trying to show her.  It was Marissa’s article on the tournament - and the byline listed both of their names.
Maybe Phineas was right.  Maybe Marissa didn’t hate her and all she had to do was apologize.  She could do that.
“Thank you,” she breathed, finally looking Ferb in the eyes.
Vaguely, she realized that she didn’t know if Jeremy and Phineas had already gone in or if they were standing there, watching.  Vaguely tickling the back of her brain was the reminder that he really needed to get inside and be present for his sister, but it didn’t matter.  She was frozen in his gaze, unable to decipher what she found there.
“You picked a Kosher restaurant.”
He blinked, and it was only then that she realized she had said it.
“Well,” he answered.  “You wanted to know what your options were.”
She swallowed tightly.  “I-”  Cleared her throat as the fog left her brain.  “We should go back in.”
He nodded, but it took another long, few seconds before he actually walked away.  Following him was automatic.  She took her seat at the table between Phineas and Vanessa and tried to settle back into the conversation.  Everything blurred together, but she still felt enveloped by the warmth of it all.
The buoying effect of it carried her through to the next morning when, armed with two iced coffees, she felt ready for the day.  Head high, she walked into the newsroom and slid into the seat next to Marissa.
“I am very sorry I was a jerk to you last week,” she said, pushing a cup towards her.
Marissa took a sip of the coffee before looking up at her.  “We all have bad days.”
She gulped.  “Phineas and I broke up.”
Marissa’s brow furrowed.  “Are you…”
“Not that upset, actually.  It’s trite, but we actually are better as friends.”
Marissa nodded, considering.  “And did your feelings for his brother have anything to do with that?”
Isabella deflated.  “I am so sorry .  It just hit me all at once.  I shouldn’t have taken it out on you.”  She inhaled deeply, forcing herself to sit up straight.  “Ferb would be lucky to go to the Night of the Falling Stars Dance with you.”
“Nah,” she said, nonchalant.  “I don’t date my friends’ crushes.  We could go as a group though.”
“I actually have to drive back to school on Sunday.”
“So…when are you going to tell him?”
She shook her head, sipping her drink.
“Isabella!” she laughed incredulously.  “You can’t not tell him!”
“I-”  She cut herself off, head shaking frantically.
“Isabella, listen.”  She leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees.  “My mom always taught me that there will be a lot of times you’ll have to choose between two different kinds of discomfort.  So there’s the discomfort of telling him, which would last…I dunno, ten minutes?  Or the discomfort of wondering for the rest of your life.”
Conspiratorially, Isabella leaned in.  “See, my mom taught me that, when you’re working with limited information, it’s impossible to know which choice is right and which is wrong, so the question is which choice can you live with being the wrong one.  And if telling Ferb is the wrong choice, I can’t live with losing him.”
“Admittedly, you know him better than I do, but…I don’t think Ferb’s that kind of friend.”
“No, but…I’m not usually the kind of friend who snaps at people for no reason, either.”
Marissa patted her hand.  “Which is why I forgive you.”  Leaning back in her chair, she added, “And why you’re not getting out of me nagging you about this.  That’s the kind of friend I am.”
Isabella caught herself smiling and took another sip of her drink.

*spoilers for infinity War/endgame* Because technically Phineas and Ferb Is in the same universe of the MCU, does that mean that before the Avengers undid Thanos snap some of the PnF crew died? Imagine Doof Dying, Perry living but still visit his tower every day bc he misses him. Or Phineas and Ferb Dying, and Candace trying to bust them Just to rember they're gone.
WAIT THAT’S SO SAD O_O
I can’t stop thinking about what would happen if Heinz died. Perry would absolutely keep coming back to the tower even though there’s no scheme to thwart. Sometimes he’d run into Vanessa, who’s mourning just like he is. Her dad may drive her up the wall sometimes, but she still loved him and she would have to have a lot of regrets about how rocky their relationship had been at times. And assuming the squirrel powering Norm up didn’t die, he’d have the whole penthouse to himself for the first time. I don’t know if it’s in Norm’s programming to be genuinely sad, but I have to think that over five years of only finding companionship in Perry and Vanessa’s visits, he’d have to lose the cheerful air he always has.
In fact, I think a lot of OWCA and LOVEMUFFIN would be fucked up. Only about 25% of nemesis pairs would survive, and 50% of evil scientists and agents would be left without their nemesis. There would have to be a lot of rearranging, and depending on what happens to the OWCA/LOVEMUFFIN member ratio, some agents might be without a job or some might have to double up. Can you imagine Perry taking on two evil scientists every day while he’s mourning the loss of his best friends?
And then when his day at work is done, he’d have two choices: he could go to Doofenshmirtz Evil Inc and not be met with Heinz’s self-assured monologuing, or he could go to the Flynn-Fletchers (it would be difficult to call it “home” now) and constantly be reminded that his boys are gone. I would like to think that both Linda and Lawrence get to stick around, but they’re no substitute for Phineas and Ferb.
Much like Perry’s dream in Phineas and Ferb Get Busted, Candace would be heartbroken. She wouldn’t know what to do with herself if she wasn’t busting the boys. It really is the only thing she’d focused on all summer, and if they just up and disappeared one day, she’d be so lost. I have to imagine that either Stacy or Jeremy would also get snapped away -- the odds that all three would live would be slim to none -- so she’d also be mourning the loss of at least one of the closest friends. Assuming one of them survived, I imagine she’d lean on them for support more than anyone, but they’d be dealing with losses in their own family, too -- they both have at least one parent and a younger sister; I imagine at least one person in their family wouldn’t make it.
I think Candace would really hold a grudge against Perry at first because he reminds her of them. Perry’s used to her being rude -- and it’s not exactly a one-sided thing -- but never to this extent, and I think he’d take that as a sign that maybe he shouldn’t come home. He doesn’t want to sleep in Phineas and Ferb’s empty beds, anyway. It would make it easy to embrace a second nemesis at OWCA, even if he feels numb the whole time, but he’d still need somewhere to go when he’s not working, and I think he might make himself at home at DEI, at least at night when he needs somewhere to sleep. He’d be careful not to disturb anything because even though he knows Heinz is gone, he can’t stop hoping that maybe one day he’ll come back, and Perry doesn’t want to move anything for when that day comes. Even after five years, whenever he pays DEI a visit, he touches nothing but the coffee maker and the bed.
I think eventually, though, Candace and Perry would have to be reunited. It’s a small town; they can’t stay away from each other for long. Maybe it’s Perry who takes initiative, going back home for the first time after a month just to see how everyone’s doing. Obviously everyone’s still broken up about it, but it’s been long enough that people have to start moving on and living their lives without their loved ones, no matter how much it hurts. I don’t think Perry would have gone home to see Candace, but I think once he did, he wouldn’t want to leave. And for once, I think Candace wouldn’t want him to leave, either. Yes, Perry reminds her of the boys, but so does everything and everyone else. But having him disappear within days of the boys turning to dust just left another hole in the household, and it helps to have back the only one who misses them like she does.
I think the gang would absolutely fall apart. They had nothing in common before Phineas and Ferb brought them together that summer, and with them gone, there’s no one to unite them anymore. I don’t think it would be a conscious decision, but I think they’d slowly stop spending time together and that eventually it would be almost like that summer never happened. I even think Buford would stop bullying Baljeet, even as a friend, because it just feels wrong now. They wouldn’t know how to cope without Phineas and Ferb, and it would tear everything apart.
I think the Fireside Girls would grow closer, though. I think Isabella would become much more focused on getting her patches because it’s something to take her mind off the pain and she wouldn’t have to think about the fact that she never got to tell Phineas about her crush, and I think the girls who survived would know what she was doing and they would do their best to help her. I think there’d be a lot of heart-to-hearts and a lot of tears, and maybe they’d expand their duties to try to help others who are struggling the same way they are, even if the best they can offer is some sort of distraction.
And as heartbreaking as it is to think about what would happen when they’re all gone, I can’t even imagine what would happen when they come back. Maybe Perry’s at DEI with 21-year-old Vanessa -- a whole ass adult now -- and Norm, sitting together quietly or reminiscing about the past and bam, Heinz appears in the middle of his lab. I think that might be the first time anyone ever sees Perry cry -- and I mean full-on sobbing; he’s been waiting for this day for five years but he never actually thought it would happen. It would be such a nice, happy reunion, and I can’t even imagine how much it would mean to Heinz to know that Perry stuck around for five whole years waiting for him when he knows that everyone else has abandoned him the first chance they got.
And then they’ve notice how loud the tower is and how busy the streets are and they’d realize that Heinz isn’t the only one who came back, and Perry would give Heinz a big hug before running out the door to see if Phineas and Ferb came home. Heinz wouldn’t understand at first -- why would Perry wait around for five years just to leave within 10 minutes of Heinz coming back? -- but Perry had spent enough time with Vanessa lately for her to know that he has a family back home. That would just make Heinz feel even better. Perry lost his two boys and he still spent so much time here.
Phineas and Ferb would be so disoriented. One second they’re building a giant disco ball, the next they’re standing in an empty yard with no friends, tools, or disco balls in sight. They’d head inside to ask their parents if they knew where Isabella, Buford, and Baljeet went, and their parents would start crying because the boys are back! After all this time, their boys are finally home! and Phineas and Ferb wouldn’t understand why they’re suddenly being given the biggest bear hugs of all time but they wouldn’t protest. And then Perry would run through the door, almost like he somehow magically knew he’d find them, and he’d stay by their side all day, only leaving (after a day full of snuggles, obviously) to go back and visit Heinz. OWCA and LOVEMUFFIN would have a lot to sort out, so he’d hopefully get at least the next couple days off to spend with his family -- both the Flynn-Fletcher family and the Doofenshmirtz family.
Candace would probably be at school -- she’d be 20, after all, and probably at a college dorm a ways away from home. Maybe shed get a call from her mom, sobbing, telling her that her brothers are back. Or maybe someone in her dorm would start screaming and telling everyone who will listen that her dad is alive and her dad’s been dead for five years and this is the best news she’s ever gotten, and soon the entire school (and probably the entire world) is on their phone calling around to see if their own families and friends are okay. The phone lines wouldn’t even be able to handle all this, and the streets would be a wreck with people trying to get to their loved ones.
And can you imagine what it would be like for Isabella, Buford, and Baljeet to see them again? They’d be 13-15 years old at this point, and Phineas and Ferb would still be in elementary school. The boys may be mature for their age, but I have to imagine the five-year age difference would create a major rift in their friendship if they tried to go back to where they used to be. If Isabella still had remnants of a crush on Phineas, it would probably stop the moment she remembered that he’s just a little kid, and she’d have to figure out how to cope knowing that her former best friend (and first crush) is back but that they’re at such different standings in life now. Hell, Phineas and Ferb are probably closer to Little Suzy Johnson’s age than to Isabella, Buford, and Baljeet’s. I think it would really mess with Phineas and Ferb to see their friends so much older and more mature, especially because to them, they’d just been kids building crazy things the day before.
Once again, I think the Fireside Girls would be fine. They probably would have taken in some of the Lil-Sparks-turned-Fireside-Girls like Melissa (not Chase) into their troop to make up for lost members, so the varying ages would be nothing new; they’d just be happy to have their friends back.
tl;dr I think the snap would be heartbreaking and the reunion would be bittersweet and this is the woRST ASK I’VE EVER GOTTEN AND NOW I’M GONNA CRY IN A CORNER FOR A FEW HOURS /j

How would you improve the episode AYA?
...wait...you’re asking me?
I...I didn’t expect this...
Tumblr media
The thing is is that I don’t think I could possibly come up with ideas for this better than, say, @authenticcadence18 or @springsfordays because their ideas are just too good (seriously, check them out, they have the literal best ideas for a rewrite of AYA, holy crap).
But if I were to rewrite it...hm...let’s make a checklist for stuff about AYA that just miffed me:
1. Plot B is fine. Plot B was probably the best part of AYA - Doof’s dilemma made sense for his character (and is hilarious), tied in with the name of the episode, and involved fun little shenanigans. My only gripe is that they didn’t go MONDO insane with it at the end, and said ending felt really abrupt.
(I also wish that, somehow, even Doof was involved with that “everyone knew” bit, but we’re gonna be scrapping that joke for this story - that joke is FUNNY, but it’s also degrading to Phineas, and is sorta a nice way of saying “yeah, you’re stupid for not noticing her feelings even though she’s not entitled to them - you’re the problem. It’s not like the episode is trying to hint at you two having switched roles, no, you’re the only one who was being oblivious and stupid.”)
2. We cut out Plot C entirely. Everyone trying to get Phineas and Isabella together was just...ugh. Why? And they had the audacity to compare what they were doing to all the AMAZING things they did when they were younger, like, guys - you set up some tables, decorations, and cooked them what I can assume to be a run-of-the-mill restaurant dinner - that has NOTHING on a rollercoaster through downtown. And their applause at that sweet but ultimately lackluster confession? Hurt. So much. Now that I think about it, it felt condescending, it unintentionally emphasized HOW uninspired this confession (as much as I love it) was, and it felt like they were taking credit for something they didn’t do.
And if we’re NOT gonna cut out Plot C...have Plot C be about FERB? Leaving for COLLEGE? Out of COUNTRY? Cuz I have a hard time believing that Phineas and Ferb are just OKAY with separating at such a long distance - heck, in “Candace Gets Busted”, FERB is the one who assumes that one day he and his brother are gonna own their own place together. It should at least be BROUGHT UP, don’t you think? (I’m conflicted on whether or not I’d keep Montessa in the ring or at least SHOW US how Ferbnessa happened, because I think what’s weirding people out is that they’re assuming that Vanessa literally waited for Ferb to turn 18 to start dating him - when I think it’s more likely that they kinda JUST started dating during the beginning of Summer? But I think stuff like that really SHOULD be explained because even though I don’t think it’s that weird, I understand why OTHER PEOPLE wouldn’t like the idea)
3. I kinda feel like this should have had more songs? I dunno why, I feel like this all could have been improved if we got a fullblown musical out of this (and...this may be me wanting a “What Might Have Been” reprise, lol) - like, make fun of HSM or something, you can’t tell me you wouldn’t have.
4. I kinda wanted to see more of the “where are they now”. Like, Jeremy, Stacey, Little Suzie Johnson, even that one couple with the lady who’s always like “what did you think, an anniversary dinner was just going to fall from the sky?” - I like stuff like that, it’s so much fun to think about. Also...I legit have so much anxiety over Perry never interacting with him owners ONCE in that episode, and even more anxiety over Pinky never making an appearance at all. Heck, if there was a good time to show us what the HECK happened to Django, now would be a great time.
5. I would have given the episode a unique intro, ala “Night of the Living Pharmacists” and “Last Day of Summer” - like, AYA is as much of a status quo shifter as those two episodes, why was it given the “Phineas and Ferb Get Busted” treatment?
6. Here’s a brilliant thought - NO ONE tells Phineas about Isabella’s crush? How about instead Phineas goes and wants to check in on her, because he really misses her and doesn’t understand why they don’t talk anymore (and he’s tried before, and they’ve nearly had conversations, but Isabella’s just too busy) - did he do something wrong? Is Isabella just too busy now? He needs to know. That should have been his priority, none of this “FrIeNd ZoNe” nonsense.
7. I would have made this into a near movie-length special. With all the topics that this episode brought up, particularly the whole “manipulating the situation” thing, I feel like a longer episode would have given them more time to talk about how stuff like that is...not okay.
[READ THE ACTUAL REWRITE OF THE EPISODE (well, my take at least) UNDER THE CUT!]
Okay, with those out of the way, how I would have written Phinabella the Movie...I mean...Act Your Age (I warn you, it’s not gonna be as good as @authenticcadence18′s or @springsfordays‘s ideas, so if you want quality stuff and not just mushy fanfiction fodder I’d check their stuff out):
I would have sorta made this entire thing take place during the “What Might Have Been” song - what that means is that it’s a collage of memories. How Isabella and Phineas met, how Isabella first got her “crush” (if you can really call it that, girl was full out in love lol), them building stuff with the gang during their canon ages, them going into highschool, Isabella ultimately choosing to give up her crush to maintain her friendship with Phineas (because her choosing to not be as close to Phineas because of a crush isn’t an option), Isabella’s first boyfriend (which probably’s gonna hurt a lot of fans, cuz I envision that to NOT be Phineas; but it’s Phinabella endgame, so relax); the episode just centers on the gang (mainly Isabella since it’s from her perspective) growing up.
Like, yes, all of the memories are gonna be Phinabella centered, but we gotta have SOME side-stories and junk, like maybe how Baljeet gets together with Ginger (and...how they break up...please don’t kill me), what ultimately leads Ferb to want to go back to England for studies (maybe it’s him wanting to be his own person and not wanting people to think he and his brother are just “a pair”), Buford...uh...something with Buford definitely, because I love him and he deserves it. Heck, maybe even the Fireside Girls can have their own arc with a graduation ceremony for their ranks (...what? I’m not linking stuff to the best fanfic ever, noooooo...why would-why would I do that?).
And maybe in this case Plot B SHOULD be different - maybe it should focus on how Doofenshmirtz first got to America, how he first met Charlene, what exactly led him to being evil in the first place, all that good stuff. Though, ultimately, that might be a little angsty - maybe there’s a reason why we don’t see exactly HOW Doof and Charlene divorced, because that could very well be the saddest scene ever, and it’s hard to put that kinda comedic spin on something so tragic (I mean, obviously there are comedies CENTERED on divorce, but like...they always SKIP the divorce part from what I’ve seen). Not to mention that this is a kid’s show, so...I doubt they’d actually show HOW it happened. This is just my thoughts. X’D
Back to the Phinabella.
Phineas and Isabella would have their confession during THIS part of the special rather than the very end (so, like...they’re still in highschool, and Isabella’s already broken up with that other dude in the story, and maybe Phineas had a girlfriend he just wasn’t happy with) - Phineas tries to do something big for Isabella, but it ultimately falls through because of Perry’s current nemesis (we never see who that is, lol), so he settles for something simple (at first he’s scared about it not “being enough” for someone like Isabella, but Ferb’s able to slap that nonsense out of him pretty quickly). He and Isabella spend the ENTIRE DAY together alone, leading to Phineas eventually singing a song he wrote for her to her, and the two have a cute little duet as a result (that has the opposite energy of “What Might Have Been”, so it’s important that somewhere in this episode that “What Might Have Been” is still a thing, it just doesn’t involve Phineas being aware of Isabella’s feelings, and it doesn’t involve Isabella trying to leave somewhere without saying goodbye, this would be more about Isabella, after trying to get over her crush, realizing that she still LIKES Phineas that way). They almost kiss, but they’re ultimately interrupted by Buford being Buford or something, but it implies that Phineas and Isabella are now a couple onwards from here.
Eventually it leads to a small party in the middle of Summer with the gang, with them playing some games and talking about how by the end of Summer, they won’t be seeing each other as much anymore because of college and stuff. They all remanence about the simple times - with Isabella eventually leaving (saying it’s because she needs to check on something, but really it’s because she’s sad that things are ending so quickly and she’s gonna miss everyone especially Phineas), and Phineas going after her to see if she’s alright (he’s oblivious, but he’s always been able to tell if she’s sad for the most part, save for maybe a few instances - but he’s older now, so he’s probably better at telling).
The two go for a stroll outside, and discuss the changes and stuff, how he and Isabella are ultimately going to have to work on a long-distance relationship and how Phineas is going to miss Ferb when he leaves the country, and how he’s gonna miss Isabella. And then they both realize that everything is gonna be okay, because they’ve literally dealt with worse situations and came out stronger for it - Isabella nor Phineas have any doubts in their minds that their relationship with each other or anyone else is going to sever just because of long distance.
Time moves onward, and there are a lot of changes (mainly talking about couples and other stuff - if it were me, there’d be endgame Buford/Gretchen and Ferb/Ginger of all people, and of course Candace and Jeremy would be married by this time). Phineas and Isabella are about to go into their last year of college, and decide to spend one more day together before they, once again, go their separate ways. The gang surprises Isabella by having made an ACTUALLY GOOD AND CREATIVE BACKYARD DINNER for the two per Phineas’ planning (the idea wasn’t bad, the execution was just lame imo), and long story short, Phineas proposes to Isabella. She obviously accepts, and everyone cheers for them as Isabella inner monologues about how change can be scary but it’s okay some mushy stuff about loved ones being there for you when you need them or something.
And finally, we cut to many years later, with Isabella as an adult now, looking out at the backyard of her current home, drinking some tea - this whole movie/special has taken place in this Isabella’s memories (if that makes sense), as she thinks on how she got there. The story ends with a child (we don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl) calling to her and calling her “mom”, and Isabella leaving to check on her kid.
And...that’s how I would have written “Act Your Age”. Again, I recommend this and this over my idea (because again, their takes on this episode are perfect, I don’t think anyone can top them), but if you like it then great. This was still fun to write out and stuff, and I hope you enjoyed it regardless. ^^;

Can’t Help Falling in Love: Ch. 3
IT’S ANOTHER CHAPTER!!! Thanks in advance for reading!!!
First Chapter
Previous Chapter
AO3
...
Like a river flows...
Surely to the sea...
...
Phineas awoke to the usual sound of Perry’s chattering with a bright smile on his face. “Good morning, Perry!!!” he exclaimed cheerfully, ruffling the platypus on the head.
Anyone who knew Phineas knew he’d always loved mornings. After all, every day dawned as a brand new beginning, as the first step on an adventure that could lead anywhere! To Phineas, sunrises were canvases of possibility and untapped potential!!
...and though these musings were true of every morning, today they felt ESPECIALLY true.
“Good morning, Ferb!!!!”
From his bed across the room, Ferb muttered irritably and rolled over.
(Unlike Phineas, Ferb had lost a bit of his fondness for mornings as he grew older. Maturity had instilled in him an appreciation for the finer things in life...such as sleeping in.)
Phineas, though, was already wide awake and ready to start the day.
(Which, admittedly, was normal for him....but there was an extra spring in his step today.)
“Oh, come on, Ferb!!! It’s a beautiful day!!!!” Phineas sprang from his bed, opened the window, and took in a whiff of fresh air…all while gazing fondly at a certain rosy-hued house across the street.
Ferb slowly climbed out of bed, rubbed the tiredness from his eyes, and ambled over to where his brother stood.
Someone was in a particularly good mood this morning.
After a few seconds, Ferb recalled a conversation he’d had with Phineas the night before and realized WHY he was in such a good mood.  “...I suppose this has to do with a certain neighbor of ours and that project you told me about yesterday?” he guessed with a wry grin.
Phineas smiled dreamily—he’d been waxing poetic about Isabella to Ferb for nearly four years now, so there was no point in hiding his expression—and spun away from the window and towards his dresser. “It sure does!!!” he called over his shoulder as he dug through the drawer for a shirt to wear. “Now come on!! The day isn’t going to seize itself!!!!”
Isabella woke up to the sound of her alarm with a bright smile on her face, which was a little unusual for her. Usually, she wasn’t all that eager to get out of bed (since sleep was a relatively rare commodity for her these days). Today, though, she’d barely had her eyes open for a minute and was already bubbling with excitement to discover what the day would bring. “Good morning, Pinky!!” she called out.
Pinky, in response, briefly looked up from his bed on the floor before curling back up and closing his eyes again. (He was retired from fighting evil now, after all! He could afford to sleep in.)
Isabella brought a hand to her face, felt the smile still present there, and giggled. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d woken up in such a good mood!
And then, as the last remnants of sleep faded away and her mind finished waking up, memories of the day before came rushing back.
“....oh my gosh. Oh my GOSH.”
Suddenly, Isabella was ten years old again.
“PINKY!!!!! Phineas and I are doing a project together!! Phineas met me at Nosh Olé and we ate dinner together!! PHINEAS AND I HUGGED!!! ALL THAT REALLY HAPPENED YESTERDAY!!! AAAH!!!”
In a few minutes, she’d have to climb out of bed, start her day, and remind herself that yesterday’s events had been TOTALLY NORMAL. Not romantic! Not special! Just Phineas being his normal, kind, wonderful self.
.....but for now, Isabella was more than happy to squeal excitedly into a pillow and bask in the giddy feeling of being in love with Phineas. Just for a little while.
After years of refusing to do so...it felt unbelievably good.
...
Phineas flew through his morning routine, getting ready and eating breakfast at lightning speeds (Ferb supposed he was really, REALLY eager to get to school and see Isabella again). When he finally got to the front door, however, this momentum came to a screeching halt.
Ferb was more than a little puzzled to find his brother huddled by the door with one eye fixed to the peephole that looked outside. “...what are you doing?” he asked.
Usually, Phineas waited for him to finish getting ready before leaving for school. But he always waited outside in the sunlight and fresh air.
Phineas’s face reddened, and he flinched. He hadn’t consciously considered what he was doing until now...and now that he was thinking about it, it sounded sort of silly.
“Uh…I guess...I’m…waiting for Isabella to open her door so...I can happen to open ours at the same time…and…walk to school with her?”
Ferb lifted up his cellphone and gestured to it pointedly.
“What??” Phineas shook his head vigorously. “No, I’m not going to call and ask her to walk to school with us! ….yes, we’re collaborating on a project, but technically we can just talk about that in class! I can’t use that to justify asking her to walk together!!! ….why are you looking at me like that??”
Ferb snickered. “You sound just like Candace. She’d be proud of you.”
Phineas’s ears reddened at that...but he still didn’t move.
“.....just give it a few more minutes. Please. For me.”
...
Isabella felt a little silly. She’d been standing behind her front door and gazing across the street for a handful of minutes now, waiting for Phineas to step outside so SHE could step outside and walk to school with him.
Well. With him and Ferb.
Isabella knew she’d get to spend time with Phineas during their music appreciation class (and probably after class, to work on their essay and all)...but she couldn’t help wanting to see him sooner. After all, he DID live right across the street from her. Why not walk to school with him? They used to do that all the time as kids! What was different now?
(Well. A lot was different now. But still.)
More than anything, though, Isabella supposed she wanted to make up for lost time…last night, she’d realized how desperately she missed just BEING with Phineas. Once they graduated high school and moved on to the next parts of their lives, who knew how often they’d get to hang out?
WAIT. Was his door opening??
...
Ferb obliged his brother for a few minutes more—he wasn’t one to stand in the way of true love, after all.
And then a thought occurred to him.
If Phineas was waiting for Isabella to open her door so he could “coincidentally” step outside as she did and walk to school with her….perhaps Isabella was doing the same thing.
Ferb spent a few moments recalling instances of Isabella trying to spend time with Phineas when they were younger.
...yeah. She was definitely waiting behind the door.
“Well.” Ferb reached past Phineas for the doorknob. “You can keep waiting for Isabella if you want, but I’m going to head out.”
“Wait, Ferb, no—!”
But it was too late. Ferb had already opened the door.
And SURE ENOUGH. Isabella’s door swung open at the same time.
Ferb couldn’t help but chuckle. Phineas and Isabella really WERE made for each other.
“Oh look, there’s Isabella!!”
Phineas’s face flushed and his limbs stiffened because THERE ISABELLA WAS INDEED. Smiling and pink and as pretty as ever.
Visiting Isabella at work with a specific goal in mind and hugging her beneath the dim light of her porch was one thing (er, two things). Fantasizing about walking her to school was another.
But actually walking to school with her? In the bright morning light?? Which would almost certainly illuminate the blush on his face???
Perhaps he should’ve thought this through more.
...at least Ferb would be walking with them.
“You know, I just realized, I think I left my chemistry book upstairs.” Ferb nudged Phineas outside with a not-so-subtle wink. “You two go ahead, I’ll see you at school.”
The door shut, leaving a very flustered Phineas behind.
He was SO going to throw a pillow at Ferb tomorrow morning.
“Hey, Phineas!!!” Isabella waved as she crossed the street. “Whatcha doin?”
“Umm…..getting ready to walk to school?”
“Me too! Wanna walk together?”
“Uhhhh, sure!!!”
“Hey...where’s Ferb? I thought I just saw him a moment ago.”
“Oh! He, uh, went back inside...said he forgot his chemistry book and that we could start walking without him.”
The word “chemistry” tripped Phineas up because, now that he thought about it, was Ferb even taking a chemistry class this year?
Oh. Oh.
….forget tomorrow morning. Phineas was going to throw a pillow at Ferb the next time they saw each other. Even if that was in the middle of second hour Calculus. He deserved it.
“...are you feeling alright, Phineas?” Isabella stepped a bit closer to him, concern evident in her gaze. “Your face is all red…” She laid a hand against his forehead. “Oh gosh, you’re burning up...you aren’t getting sick, are you?”
“Must be the heat!!” Phineas stammered, recoiling from her touch (not that it felt bad!—quite the contrary, actually—but if he stood there any longer, he was going to spontaneously combust on the spot) and taking a step in the direction of school. “Now, let’s just head to school! Yeah!”
He needed to start moving...and stop thinking about how infuriating Ferb was and how wonderful Isabella was.
Isabella shrugged and fell in line beside Phineas. “If you’re sure!”
For a few minutes or so, they walked in silence. Phineas needed a bit of time to regain his composure, and Isabella was just enjoying being with him at all.
Heading down the street with Phineas reminded Isabella of another time they’d walked around town, and she chuckled absently.
“What’s up?” Phineas asked.
Isabella chuckled again. “I was just thinking about the time we walked around trying to find Meap. Remember that?”
Phineas smiled fondly. “Oh yeah!! That was a fun day!”
“You kept on complaining about that ‘cute-interference’...” Isabella resisted the urge to grimace at her younger self’s antics that day. “...did we ever find out what was causing it in the first place?”
“No, I don’t think we did…” Phineas replied thoughtfully. “...but it definitely wasn’t you!”
Wait. That came out wrong.
“Because. You know. I programmed the cute tracker to ignore you from the beginning. Because I knew you were cute. Are cute! Uhm. It’s a scientific fact.”
……..perhaps Meap would take Phineas to another galaxy if he asked. He could change his name, start a new life there…...escape this nightmare.
If Phineas was having a nightmare, Isabella was living in a daydream because PHINEAS STILL THOUGHT SHE WAS CUTE!!!!!!
(In his own unique way, sure...but as far as Isabella was concerned, that just made it even more endearing.)
Phineas was pulled out of his mortified haze by the sound of Isabella’s laughter. It wasn’t a cruel or taunting sound...rather, she sounded happy. Really happy.
Had HE made her that happy?
He dared a glance at her and found her gazing at him with a gentle smile, still giggling softly. His heart thumped.
“Thanks, Phineas…” Isabella blushed ever so slightly. “...you know, you’re pretty cute yourself!”
...I mean, since Phineas had called HER cute, she could call HIM cute without it being weird, right?
Just in case, she added on, “...in a scientific way, of course!” so Phineas could interpret her compliment as a light-hearted joke if he wanted.
Phineas felt like his soul was about to astral project into another dimension.
Isabella thought HE was cute???
Maybe this wasn’t a nightmare after all...but it definitely felt like a dream.
“....thanks!” he managed to squeak.
….so much for regaining his composure.
Isabella tilted her head at Phineas and looked at him with concern for a second time that morning. “Are you SURE you aren’t getting sick, Phineas? Your face is all red again.”
Phineas just shook his head (partially in an attempt to shake away the stubborn blush sprawled over his face). “nOPE. I mean! I’m sure! It’s just the sun. That’s all. I’m fine. Yup.”
“Well, maybe drink some water when we get to school,” Isabella suggested. “You don’t want to get overheated!!”
“Will do!!!” Phineas replied quickly. “Oh look, speaking of school, here we are!!”
Surely enough, they’d reached Danville High.
“I gotta get to class, but I’ll see you in fifth hour, bye!!”
And then Phineas was walking away, practically sprinting away, because if Isabella kept looking at him so compassionately he was either going to faint or spontaneously burst into song about how much he loved her (and neither reaction seemed suitable).
If they were going to work on their project later, he REALLY needed to pull himself together.
Isabella smiled as she watched Phineas go, though she still felt a twinge of worry on his behalf despite his insistence on being alright. She really hoped he wasn’t coming down with something or overheating.
And then, out of nowhere, a thought occurred to Isabella that tied her stomach into knots.
…what if Phineas had been BLUSHING???
....actually, nope. No way. No. That was highly improbable. Impossible.
Phineas? Blushing? Because of HER??
That was just wishful thinking.
...
Fifth hour eventually rolled around. Isabella arrived in the music room before Phineas did, and as she took off her backpack and sat down, she couldn’t help but marvel at how different she felt now compared to how she’d felt yesterday.
Yesterday, she’d been horrified by the prospect of even talking to Phineas for fear of opening her heart back up to him.
Now, though, just a mere 24 hours later, her heart was willingly wide open again and she was eagerly looking forward to spending as much time with him as she could (just like she had when they were younger).
For a moment, Isabella almost felt foolish...was it really wise to allow herself to re-accept and re-embrace her feelings for Phineas so quickly? Especially after all the years she’d spent distancing herself from him in an attempt to let go and move on? Judging from prior experience, her feelings likely wouldn’t lead to anything more than the occasional hug (even IF Phineas still thought she was cute).
...perhaps it was foolish. But at this point, Isabella didn’t care...even if he didn’t return her feelings, loving Phineas just felt RIGHT.
….wait a second.
Isabella’s eyes widened as she recalled the first lyrics of she and Phineas’s assigned song.
“Wise men say only fools rush in...but I can’t help falling in love with you.”
When Phineas walked into the music room, he found Isabella already scribbling away in a notebook. “Wow, Isabella!!” He sat down. “The bell hasn’t even rung yet and you’re already brainstorming away! Talk about initiative!”
(He’d spent the entire trek to class repeatedly telling himself to focus on the project and working with Isabella...as opposed to thinking about how she apparently thought he was cute...so he’d actually be able to speak to her without. You know. Falling over and stuff.)
(He also hadn’t managed to hit Ferb with a pillow yet...but payback was coming.)
Isabella looked up at him with an eager smile. “I got an idea for our essay!!!” she replied excitedly. She slid the notebook to the middle of the table and gestured to the top of the page, where she’d written out the beginning of “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”
“There’s a lot of different ways to interpret this lyric...and I just thought of a good one!!”
...
Isabella smiled as she walked down the corridor of 300 Hall, clutching the straps of her backpack as she went.
She and Phineas had spent a very productive 53 minutes writing out ideas for their essay. After Isabella explained her interpretation of their song’s first lyric, Phineas chimed in with his own take on it, and soon they were coming up with various meanings for all the song’s lyrics!
Their essay was going to discuss how a seemingly simple song with so few words could take on deeper, varied meanings for many different people and circumstances.
And it would also discuss chord structures and cadences and such. But that part was easy.
(Neither of them had admitted the song spoke to them on a personal level to each other, of course. But this fact certainly influenced their discussion, whether they realized it or not.)
Within the last few minutes of fifth hour, Isabella had suggested she and Phineas meet after school to start officially writing the essay at one of their houses, since she had a shorter soccer practice and wasn’t working that afternoon. Phineas had agreed to this plan, only asking that Isabella wait for he and Ferb to finish their robotics meeting first (soccer practice ended at 4:30, and robotics ended at 5:00). Isabella had cheerfully agreed to meet them outside the robotics classroom so they could walk home together afterwards.
Now, Isabella was almost to the robotics room. She checked her watch: the meeting would be over in fifteen minutes or so. She came to a stop at the door and peered inside the window, and sure enough, there were Phineas, Ferb, and the rest of the team!
Her gaze was, of course, immediately drawn to Phineas. He was standing beside a few younger students, guiding them through the task of building a robot dog that looked suspiciously like one Isabella had helped him build when they were younger. Though she couldn’t hear what he was saying through the door, she could tell his words must have been thoughtful and encouraging, because the underclassmen were all smiles as they worked.
Isabella’s heart swelled. Watching Phineas guide and help others...well, it was just a perfect reminder of one of the many things she loved about him.
Around this time, Phineas happened to glance over at the door (perhaps it was random, or perhaps it was on instinct), and for a split second, he caught Isabella gazing lovingly at him.
His heart stuttered.
And then, in an instant, she was simply smiling casually and waving at him, and Phineas wondered if he’d imagined her previous expression.
On second thought, he had to have imagined it.
What other explanation was there for Isabella looking at him like that?
...
“Hey, Phineas! Hey, Ferb! How did your meeting go?”
“It went great! How was soccer?”
“Pretty good!! I’m glad I don’t have work tonight, though.”
“So am I! Are you ready to go write that essay?”
“Sure am!”
...
Linda glanced at her watch before turning back to the book she was reading. It was nearly fifteen minutes past five. She vaguely recalled Phineas and Ferb mentioning having a meeting after school today, but she couldn’t remember when it was supposed to end.
Hopefully, they’d be home soon. (Sure, they were practically adults now...but she was still their mother, after all. It was in her nature to worry a little.)
Linda was shaken out of these thoughts by the sound of the front door opening. She let out an inaudible sigh of relief as she stood from the kitchen table and went to greet her sons.
“Hi, boys! How was school?”
And then Linda froze, because Phineas and Ferb weren’t the only ones standing in the doorway.
“Oh! Hi, Isabella! How’ve you been?”
“Hi, Mrs. Flynn-Fletcher!! I’ve been good. It’s nice to see you!”
“Isabella and I are working on a project together!” Phineas said quickly (before his mom could jump to any conclusions and say something embarrassing.)
“Aww, that’s right!!!” Linda exclaimed. “That is just too sweet...it reminds me of when you two were kids, always doing stuff together.”
Phineas buried his face in his hands and prayed for his mom to stop talking, Isabella smiled innocently and nodded in agreement with her statement, and Ferb silently cracked up behind them.
“Alright, well, we’re just gonna work on our project now.” Phineas beelined toward the living room, and Isabella offered a little wave to Linda before following.
“Just let me know if you need any snacks or something!!” Linda called after them.
Once Phineas and Isabella were out of sight, she and Ferb exchanged a glance and smiled knowingly.
“...you know, their project is on a love song…” Ferb whispered with a smirk. Linda’s face lit up.
“That is just! The cutest thing EVER!!!”
...
“Alright, here’s what we have so far: ‘Though Elvis Presley’s 1961 hit “Can’t Help Falling in Love” might seem simple, it’s true staying power can be found in how the lyrics can be interpreted in vastly different ways and be made personal to individual love stories throughout the world.’”
Isabella paused for a second to consider how the thesis statement she and Phineas had written earlier sounded. “...yeah...it’s not the world’s greatest thesis statement, but it conveys the topic of our essay well enough. We’ll work on it!!”
“It’s definitely a start!!” Phineas agreed.
“So, what do you want to do next?” Isabella asked, setting her laptop next to her on the floor. “We could write an outline, or draw a flowchart...or we could just start writing whatever pops into our heads and edit it later.”
“What do you usually do when you write essays?” Phineas asked.
Isabella pondered that. “...to be honest, it depends on the essay,” she replied with a sheepish grin.
Phineas chuckled. “Yeah, same here…”
Phineas’s train of thought was interrupted by the sound of his phone buzzing. He grabbed it to check the notification.
“Oh, it’s from Candace! I wonder what she’s up to right now.”
Phineas unlocked his phone and clicked on the message from his sister….and his face flushed bright red.
“Ferb told me about your master plan to walk to school with Isabella this morning...how did it go? ;D”
“What did she say?” Isabella asked, sliding a bit closer to Phineas and angling her head towards his phone.
“NOTHING!!!!!!!”
Phineas clutched the phone to his chest and quickly stood up.
“....I just need to...go tell Ferb something. Will you excuse me for, like, two seconds?”
Then he was racing up the staircase, leaving a slightly perplexed Isabella behind.
Phineas was certainly acting a bit strange today.
...
Ferb was sitting at his laptop and minding his own business when he sensed the shift in the air. Suddenly, he didn’t feel safe.
Phineas appeared in the doorway to their room like a phantom, threateningly clutching something large and fluffy in his arms.
“I just got a text from Candace.”
He threw the pillow at Ferb.
He stayed for a few seconds to ensure it had reached its target (...it mostly just bounced harmlessly off said target's head before landing on the floor).
And then he turned on his heel and left without another word.
Ferb practically fell over with laughter.
...
“Ok, I’m back! Sorry about that.”
“What did Candace need? Is everything okay?”
“Oh, she just wanted me to tell Ferb something. Sibling stuff, ya know.”
“Alright then! Wanna make a flowchart?”
“Yup!!”
...
Isabella furrowed her brows at the word document in front of her. “....this sentence sounds kinda weird…..” She highlighted the sentence in question and angled her laptop towards Phineas.
Phineas looked up from the bibliography he was editing and glanced at Isabella’s screen. “You’re right…..maybe get rid of the commas and break it into two sentences instead.”
“Oooooh, yes, that works!!!” Isabella made the correction before leaning back with a contented sigh. “...you wanna take a snack break now?”
“PLEASE.” Phineas stood from the table in Isabella’s kitchen and followed her to the fridge. “I can’t believe we’re practically finished with this essay!!”
“I know!!!” Isabella replied with a smile. She opened the fridge and pulled out a bag of grapes. “It’s been a long week, but our efforts have definitely paid off.”
“Yup! Once we’re done with the final edits and the bibliography, we can start on the fun part!”
Ah yes. The fun part. Actually singing the love song they’d spent the last week analyzing.
That sounded fun, sure. But also a little nerve-wracking.
Analyzing the song while precariously avoiding saying anything too revealing concerning their own feelings for one another had been hard enough!
Isabella decided to change the subject as she put some grapes in a bowl and moved to the living room.
“So! This is kind of a random question, but…” She plopped down on the couch. “...have you decided what you’re going to do after you graduate yet?”
She and Phineas had been spending time together consistently for a week now, and she couldn’t believe they hadn’t had this discussion yet.
Phineas grimaced as he sat on the opposite side of the couch, and Isabella immediately regretted asking. “Oh gosh!” she voiced quickly. “Sorry, I know that’s a sore spot for some people...here, forget I asked, we can talk about something else.”
“No, no, it’s fine…” Phineas laughed dryly as he popped a grape into his mouth. “I know what I WANT to do. It’s the WHERE that’s tripping me up.”
“Well, you’re already halfway there then!” Isabella replied with an encouraging smile. “What do you WANT to do once you graduate?”
Phineas couldn’t help but smile. When even HE was having trouble putting a positive spin on something, Isabella never failed to cheer him up. “I definitely want to go to college!!” he began. “And I want to major in engineering!! I mean, I know you don’t have to go to school to learn to build cool stuff—”
Isabella let out a snort at that. “OBVIOUSLY.”
Phineas laughed with her. “Yeah, Ferb and I are proof of that...but going to college seems like a really great opportunity to meet new people, learn new things, and have fun!! I’m just not sure which school is the right fit for me yet.” He rubbed his ear and admitted, “There’s a pile of, like, dozens of college acceptance letters on the floor in my room...I’m kind of afraid to touch it.”
Isabella’s eyes widened in disbelief. “DOZENS???? No way.”
She paused to reconsider that. This WAS Phineas she was talking to.
“Actually, you know what, YES WAY. If ANYONE could get accepted to that many schools, it’s you, Phineas! That’s awesome!!!”
Phineas blushed a little at that. “Thanks, Isabella...I guess it IS pretty cool.”
“Has Ferb decided what he’s doing yet?” Isabella asked. “If he’s going to college too, maybe you guys can go to the same school!”
Immediately, Phineas’s smile deflated...he didn’t really like to think about where he and Ferb would be in a few months’ time.
“Well...Ferb is actually going to school in England, but…” He shrugged and frowned. “...I’m not so sure that’s the place for me….I know England was Ferb’s first home but, it’s so far away! I don’t want to go with him, but I’m really going to miss him…”
He sniffled, eyes cast downward.
No matter where Phineas went for school, adjusting to life without Ferb would be pretty difficult.
Isabella’s heart ached. “Oh, Phineas...I’m sorry…..” She reached across the couch and gave his hand a gentle squeeze. “Saying goodbye is hard, I know…but it’ll be okay."
(She knew better than most, after all.)
"You and Ferb will always be brothers, no matter how far apart you are."
Phineas looked up at her, and for a few moments, he didn’t necessarily feel less sad...but he felt better. Isabella’s hand was like an anchor, steadying him in a world that was moving by too fast.
And then they realized they’d perhaps been holding hands for a bit too long.
“Uhm!” Isabella slowly withdrew her hand from Phineas’s and willed her face to not blush. “Maybe you and Ferb can invent something to keep in touch!! Like, didn’t you build a phone for Candace that had a transporter app in it when we were kids? Why not just make a couple more of those and use them to visit each other once a week or something?”
Phineas’s face brightened. “Well, we’d have to be careful to heed international travel laws, but that’s a great idea, Isabella!! Why didn’t I think of that?”
Perhaps saying goodbye to Ferb wouldn’t have to be as permanent as he’d thought.
Isabella shrugged. “Beats me!”
(Internally, she supposed it was harder to think outside the box as young adults, since they had so much more to worry about now.)
…it was a relief to see Phineas smile again.
“Ok, ok, enough about me and Ferb…” Phineas folded his legs beneath him on the couch and leaned towards Isabella, as if to indicate she had his undivided attention. “What are YOU doing after graduation?
Isabella giggled at Phineas’s exaggerated movements. “We’re kind of in opposite boats, actually...I know exactly where I want to go to school, it’s the ‘what do I want to do?’ I’m still figuring out.”
Isabella had already chosen a school? Phineas couldn’t believe he hadn’t known that already.
“Where are you going?” he asked.
“Tri-State State!!” Isabella replied excitedly. “It’s a REALLY nice school, and they have a bunch of different academic programs and great extracurriculars—I already tried out for their soccer team and made it, which is exciting!! And it’s only two hours away from here, so I’ll still be relatively close to home. I don’t want to be too far away from my mom, you know.
“I’m interested in a ton of things, and I haven’t quite decided what I want to do with my future yet, so my plan is to start freshman year without declaring a major, get some gen eds out of the way and take whatever classes interest me, and figure out what sticks after that!”
“Wow, Isabella!!” Phineas exclaimed with a grin. “That’s a great plan!! And congrats on making the soccer team!”
Isabella smiled back at him. “Thanks!!” She was definitely excited about college, though the looming anxiety of eventually needing to pick a major definitely haunted her pretty constantly.
But like Phineas said. She had a plan! She didn’t need to figure out a major (or, heck, majors!) right now. There was still time for that.
Sitting with Phineas, laughing and discussing their futures, caused a fantasy to spring into Isabella’s head. For a moment, it burned so brightly in her mind’s eye, it felt real.
...what if these moments didn’t have to end after graduation?
“Sooo…” Isabella did her best to look and sound casual. “...do you think there’s an acceptance letter from Tri-State State buried in that pile of yours?”
Phineas had to think about that for a second. “Yeah, I think so…why?”
“Because I love you? And because if you go to Tri-State State, I won’t have to say goodbye to you after this summer?”
“I just remember hearing they had a great engineering program!” Isabella elaborated quickly. “I thought you might like to check it out.”
Phineas considered this…and he realized the prospect of Tri-State State having a great engineering program wasn’t the most alluring part of possibly going there.
“....and, if I went to Tri-State State, the two of us could hang out whenever we wanted.” He looked at Isabella, unable to hide the longing evident in his gaze. “Right?”
Isabella wanted to bury her face into a pillow and shriek forever. (But she couldn’t do that.)
“Yes! Yes we could!” she agreed wholeheartedly.
“And, if I don’t go to Tri-State State, maybe I could program a transporter app onto your phone too!! So we could visit each other. But, you know...only if you wanted to.”
Even as he said this, Phineas knew using an app to visit one another wouldn’t be as special as actually attending the same school.
Isabella didn’t seem to care, though. “...I’d like that….”
They sat together for a bit longer, each lost in their own daydreams of what it would be like to attend school together, before returning to the kitchen table to complete their essay once and for all. After a couple more hours, they did just that!
(And they might have shared a celebratory hug upon doing so...but that was between them.)
...
When Ferb came up to he and Phineas’s bedroom that night, he found his brother digging through the myriad acceptance letters on the floor. “Finally going through the pile, I see?” he asked with a smile, sitting down next to him.
“Something like that….” Phineas replied. He sifted through envelopes for a bit longer before finding the one he was looking for. “Got it!!!”
He examined the letter he’d received from Tri-State State and reverently turned it over in his hands, heart pounding. Taking the initiative to actually retrieve it made any tantalizing hopes for the future seem all the more possible.
Ferb examined the return address on the envelope thoughtfully. “Tri-State State, huh?” He smiled. “Is that where you’re going to go?”
“Well, I haven’t made a definite decision yet,” Phineas replied. “But…”
He craned his neck to look out the window, remembering how it had felt to sit with Isabella and contemplate what it would be like to go to school together.
He didn’t want to lose that feeling.
“I can definitely think of at least one good reason to go there.”
A moment passed, and Phineas chuckled.
“Well. Two good reasons, if you count their great engineering program.”
Ferb didn’t need Phineas to elaborate on the other good reason to figure out what it was. It was written all over his face.
...
THANK YOU FOR READING!!!!!! and thank you @youruinedmylifebynotbeingreal for being the best beta everrrrrrr!!!
(also, I have to say, writing chaotic Ferb was just. SO FUN. LOL.)

Le Princess Isabella
Hello, Hello!! So I wrote an au fic and my very first one for Phineas and Ferb. I’ve had this idea for an au for a while so I finally wrote the first couple of chapters.
I’m posting the first chapter here and let me say it’s very boring dnndndjdkn. But I wanted to post it anyways. For future chapters I’ll probably just link it. Here’s the synopsis:
In a faraway place laid the noble land of the Tri-City State Empire where in the capitol of the nation, Danville, the castle of the royals resides. Among the rulers is the heir to the throne, Princess Isabella Garcia-Shapiro ward of King Monogram, wishes to escape her life of strict rules and the pressures of royalty for adventures beyond the horizon of her castle. What the princess does not know is that the journey she craves would come a lot sooner then she expects and in the worst way possible.
Read on AO3 if you want though! Hope you enjoy!!
_______________________________
In a distant land far away from the rest of the world in the oceans laid an Island called Danvillious. There the kingdom known as the Tri-City State Empire was thriving. The inhabitants lived a peaceful way of life with seemingly no worries of a threat to their daily lifestyles. Those who lived in land, or the low country, were farmers, weavers, town folk who took care of the vast rivers and waterfalls that flowed through valleys. The people who lived along the costs were fishermen, sailors who surfed the large waves that were as crystal clear as the sky was blue. Then there were those who lived in the cities. They were mechanics, inventors, scholars and..
"A bunch of snobs! Ptooe" a young boy spat onto the ground scowling at the passer bys that walked around him. He very much despised the city folk for their "high way of life" and despised them even more since the only way they get to have that high life is because he does all the dirty work for them.
"ugh, Buford just because you come from the low country doesn't mean everything said about city life is true." A younger boy walking beside Buford pushed up his glasses as his brows furrowed in annoyance. Buford grunted holding up a pointed finger at the other boy "I could'a told you that much 'Jeet. It's always said that the city is the prettiest place to be but all I've seen is grime, garbage, and a lot of fake perfume. Plus how would you know anything? Oh wait! Maybe you would seeing how you're some high and mighty academy student!" Baljeet rolled his eyes "I'm a professor's apprentice Buford but you're a cleaner. Garbage is your whole lively hood."
As the two boys walked they came upon a small brick building right between two large apartment complexes. A sign hung loosely from the top to above the door reading "Flynn-Fletcher Antiques and Mechanics". Buford spoke in a low voice as he opened the door for the both of them, "I didn't always have to rely on garbage y'know. I helped farm the ingredients used to make the food the people here throw away without finishing."
Baljeet turned to him "I get that you miss the country side but you are here now. Try to make the best of it. Like, I bet you weren't able to go flying in a custom plane made by the Flynn-Fletcher boys on your farm right?" He smiled pointing towards the back of the shop. Buford shrugged "Yeah I guess. You and the other two are alright I guess."
With that the two walked through the- in Buford's words- creepy shop full of knickknacks and old relics from over time on the Island. Srnnnnk. At the counter a teenage girl had her feet over the register and the newspaper over her face snoring deeply. The boys walked up and stared at her for a moment. Baljeet whispered in disgust after a particularly deep snore, "Eek she sounds like a broken radiator." Buford sighed a wistfully "Yeah.. A broken radiator with pretty ginger hair.."
"What?"
"Uhh I mean.. Uh"
Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
Buford smashed the bell placed on the counter repeatedly startling awake the sleeping teenager sending her knocking back over. "Gah! What the hell??" She said moving her head back and forth. Baljeet cleared his throat getting her attention. "Oh it's you two. What do you want?" She said rubbing her eyes irritably. "Hello Candace we were looking for Phineas and Ferb, do you know where they are?"
BOOM!! PRSSH!! CRASH!!
Candace put her head in her hand, "UGH Where do you think they are? Being annoying as usual." Baljeet and Buford glanced at one another then back at Candace. "Aren't you going to try and 'bust' them for making so racket?" Baljeet asked in confusion. "Why bother? Mom and Dad are visiting the capital today on a 'special antique assignment'. No point" The boys shrugged and entered the back of the shop where the Flynn-Fletcher boys, Phineas and Ferb, worked welding a metal sheet onto whatever contraption they were working on now. The two covered in oil stains and dirt all over their blue overalls looked up from where they were working over to their two friends.
Phineas lifted his mask smiling widely, "Hey fellas! You're just on time! Come look what we've added to the wings." He walked towards the other side of the custom small plane to point out the paint job. On the wings the paint a fiery shape along the edges in bright red and orange colors. "Oooooo" the other two boys said seeing the paint. "Right? It was Ferb's idea he thought it needed a more badass look to it." Ferb walked over joining the huddle around the wings. "Well Ferb always has an eye for that sort of thing." Baljeet stated running a hand over the design. Ferb held up a pair of finger guns at him clicking his mouth.
"Yup. Now all we need is to finish the welding which should be done soon. Y'all could wait right over there so the sparks don't get you." Phineas said pulling his mask back over and beginning to weld again along with Ferb. Buford and Baljeet went to the corner of the room where a pile of old magazines, Newspapers and torn books were, Baljeet picked a book and began to read. Buford not one liking to read scrummaged through the papers. "I want to look at the funnies!" He continued shuffling until a single photo fell out gliding to the floor. Huh? Buford leaned over picking up and turning over the picture. On it he saw an adorably beautiful young girl no older than him staring somewhat thoughtfully back at him. The girl was dressed in all white, in huge contrast to her features, and sported gold and red medals and large white coat hung loosely on her shoulders.
"What the? Who is this?" Buford showed the picture to Baljeet. He corrected his glasses analyzing the picture. "Oh! That's Princess Isabella!" Buford's eyes went wide, "Wait! That's THE Princess Isabella?! Ward of the King?!" Baljeet nodded "Yup! That's her, I forget that not many pictures of her actually exist so most people don't even know what she looks like." Baljeet grabbed the photo scanning it some more with a curious look, "Which begs the question how a rarity such as this is in these newspaper clippings. Hey Phineas! Ferb! How'd you guys get this??" He shouted over the welding noises gaining their attention. "Huh? Oh! That picture! Be careful with it!" Phineas dashed over yanking the picture from Baljeet's hand. "Whoof! Possessive much?" Phineas blushed "Sorry It's just it’s the only picture we have of her." He said twiddling his fingers. Ferb walked over "Our folks got it from their last trip to the capital." Phineas continued for him "Yeah Mom and Dad sold the photographer a clock and when dad saw the pictures he knew he had to buy it. Y'know since she apparently isn't allowed outside the castle walls."
"Wow you're dad scored big time! I bet you could sell it for a ton of money!" Buford said excitedly. Phineas furrowed his eyebrows holding the picture away from everyone. "It's not for sale Buf!" Buford held his hands up "Damn okay! What's your attachment to this thing anyway?" Phineas face nearly went as red as his hair. "Well, I just like looking at it that's all. I don't want give it away." Baljeet giggled, "I don't blame you! She's very pretty."
Phineas sighed holding the picture up and staring longingly at the girl on it. "Yeah. What’s not pretty about her?" He moved around the room with the picture in hand, "That long luscious raven black hair. The olive toned skin. Those large deep brown eyes and that cute smile she has.. Besides the things I've invented she's the only girl I've ever loved." Phineas ran a hand over the photo. Buford groaned in disgust, "Oh my God, you're in love with a picture?? What is wrong with you man. I bet she ain't all hugs and kisses in real life. She's royalty, she's probably a brat!"
Phineas stared at Buford with narrowed eyes "Well you don't know that do you? Leave me to my crush on this photo alright?" Ferb and Baljeet looked at one another and covered their laughs. Buford rolled his eyes "Yeah, yeah. Whatever can we get this bad boy into the sky now and leave the princess talk here?" The other boys nodded in agreement and all went to start rolling the plane out to of the back of the shop. Phineas lingered behind staring at the picture once more. The girl's eyes somehow burned through the stilled image. He smiled Simply beautiful aren't you? He carefully folded the photo and stuffed it securely into his front overall pocket and ran up to join the others.

For the asks, I'll ask Phineas and Ferb! And if you've already done that, Phineas for the character asks! :)
You know what, I’ll do both!
This is enourmous though, so under the cut.
PnF:
Favorite character: Ferb!! I just think he’s so chill and fun to watch. So many of my favorite moments in the series come from him, because he may not say much, but he says everything he needs to say and more than makes up by his lack of lines by crushing every single one he does have. Also helps that whenever he sung the song was an absolute highlight for me.
Least Favorite character: God. Linda. It’s just. IDK. She’s so unable to take Candace seriously, and if she really thinks that “there’s something wrong with her”, she should do something about it. I know, I know, it’s just for the jokes, but that has always bothered me.
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): My only real pnf ships are Phinabella and kinda Perryshmirtz (it’s just this thing where there’s so much cute art for them that I’ve just come to accept it as not being that weird, though I don’t blame people for being grossed out by it). I’m also lowkey fond of Candace/Vanessa and Buford/Baljeet, but I’m not sure I’d say that I really ship them. To round it up with number 5... I’ll cheat and say PnF SW Phinabella, just because PnF really got me to buy into the Skysolo expy huh.
Character I find most attractive: Growing up it was definitely Vanessa, but they’re all my children now.
Character I would marry: Lawrence seems like a chill husband.
Character I would be best friends with: Baljeet’s subplot in CATU being how much he likes Space Adventure was super hashtag relatable as someone who is super into SW. We could nerd out together, it would be fun.
a random thought: I wish they’d make a sequel to PnF SW. I’ve joked about it being named “Emperry Strikes Back” in the past, but it’s just... I love SW. I love PnF. PnF SW is a masterpiece. Let me have more of it.
An unpopular opinion: I’m not even sure what counts or not as unpopular, I’m not that involved with the PnF fandom like I was three years ago, but I think I enjoy CATU more than ATSD. Not because I think it has a stronger story - ATSD just has a lot of plotlines everyone always wanted to see, so no PnF movie will ever touch it in that sense - but I just think CATU is more fun. It definitely has a better soundtrack, but even outside of that I find myself thinking about CATU more than I ever did ATSD outside of writing fic where they remember everything.
My Canon OTP: Phinabella, of course. It will always be so weird to call them “canon”, but they are. AYA’s quality or lack thereof aside, I’ll always be glad for the episode for being the first PnF episode I watched in years and getting me back into the show, and I don’t think that would have happened were it not for my 13-year-old self struggling to read in English because there were no good PnF fanfics in Portuguese.
My Non-canon OTP: I already talked a bit about Perryshmirtz, so I’ll talk about Candace/Vanessa instead. I just think it’s so cool how their relationship evolved over the course of the show. A great thing about PnF is that despite having a very strict formula, there are some relationships that changed over the course of the summer, and these two legit had never even met before the show began and turned out to have such great chemistry.
Most Badass Character: You can’t not say Isabella. There’s Perry too, of course, but I think Isabella impresses me more because she’s not some badass secret agent, she’s just... a kid.
Most Epic Villain: Darth Ferb!!! I went into PnF SW mostly unspoiled and that was so cool.
Pairing I am not a fan of: Um. I have nothing against Canderemy, per se, but I always preferred Candace when she had plots with her brothers or Vanessa than her plots with Jeremy.
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): Sometimes I think about the Mission Marvel episode and randomly get mad. It’s not even one specific character, I just don’t think that crossover worked. It’s probably the only episode of the show I only watched once, and I just... really don’t like how some of the characters were written in it.
Favourite Friendship: The kid crew is the best, man. All five of them are such fun characters, and I love all of their interactions. My favorite pair within it is probably Buford and Isabella, who I just think had some really fun scenes together, but you can’t go wrong with these five.
Character I most identify with: Growing up it was definitely Baljeet, as the nerd kid who got picked on and all that. Now, I’m not sure?
Character I wish I could be: Honestly, any of the fireside girls. They seem like they’ve got their life together. Wish I could relate.
Phineas:
How I feel about this character: Phineas is such a good kid. I always preferred Ferb, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think Phineas is awesome. He’s so nice, such a genuinely great person who just wants to help everyone so they can have as great a time as he is having.
Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: Just Isabella, really. I think there’s probably some good fanfic that makes a case for Phineas and other people (Baljeet could be cute, I guess?) but I just can’t really see Phineas with anyone else.
My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Ferb!! They just get each other so freaking well, and for all that the actual story of PnF is less about the two of them and more how the other characters react to them, I don’t think the show would have worked if their relationship wasn’t as good.
My unpopular opinion about this character: Again, not sure what counts or not as unpopular. Maybe that I wasn’t into the “Phineas gets angry at Candace” scenes? Like, I remember before CATU came out people would always talk about wanting another, but I was so glad when the movie came out and we didn’t get one. Get on the trike was funny, but after that it got annoying.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I found the Phineas and Ferb Effect (the actual thing, not the episode) a weird choice, but if they were going to go there, I’d have enjoyed some actual aknowledgment on how weird it was. I know a lot of things got cut from the crossover for time, so I get it, but I do wish there was more of a reaction from Phineas and Ferb to finding out about it.
Favorite friendship for this character: I do really enjoy Phineas and Isabella’s friendship? Like, while I do ship them, I was never really one to wish they’d get together within the show because I didn’t want their dynamic to change, because it was just so good on its own. They’re such good friends regardless of anything else and I really appreciate that.
My crossover ship: I don’t do crossover shipping most of the time, tbh.

Canderemy 239
Again that was supposed to be a small prompt that exploded into 3.1k
Canderemy, E
(Ao3) (prompts)
- Guys, I came as fast as possible, what happened? - Jeremy wheezed as he burst through the door to Flynn-Fletcher’s garden, frantically looking around.
Phineas, Ferb and Isabella stood there waiting for him, their faces painted with concern (or nothing at all in case of Ferb), but Jeremy concentrated on finding that one person he was worried about.
- Where is Candace? And what happened? - She’s in her room - Phineas replied quickly - She’s been there for something like an hour. - We… We’ve had a bit of a problem with our sorbet machine. - Isabella explained.
Jeremy blinked.
- The… The what? - Sorbet machine. I mean, it used to be the sorbet machine, then we modified it to turn us into bees. - she corrected herself. - And now we wanted to tweak it so we can turn into pterodactyls! - Phineas added - But, yeah, something went wrong, and… - Candace got hit by the beam, and now she’s a bit more… feral.
Ferb’s calm voice told Jeremy he didn’t have that much to worry about, but still, couldn’t quite see himself coming to the rescue.
- And… how do we fix this? Don’t you have, like, a button to reverse it, or something? - No, of course not, Jeremy, it doesn’t work that way! - Phineas shouted, throwing his hands into the air. - Hey, man, sorry, I was just worried about- - It doesn’t work like that, because it didn’t arrive yet.
Phineas pointed to the large circular hole with “Reverse” written above it.
- We’re waiting for the courier. - Oh-Okay… - Jeremy scratched his head - So, how can I help her? - She doesn’t let anyone in the room - Isabella explained - Neither them, nor me, and Phineas said that the effects may be getting worse and worse by the minute. So I thought out of all people, you might be the only one to bring her here. After all, didn’t you work as lion tamer last summer? - Yeah, I have - Jeremy spoke - But honestly, I think it’s a step up…
He turned his head towards Candace’s bedroom window, hoping to see his girlfriend, but saw only closed curtains. He took a breath, flexed his muscles, and walked towards the door.
- Alright, I’m going in. - he nodded - Good luck!
Isabella waved him goodbye and watched as he disappeared into Phineas’ house.
- Er, why has Jeremy been a lion tamer for a Summer? - Ferb raised his brow. - Because he’s in college that is a part of American education system. - Phineas replied. - Ah, that makes sense.
As Jeremy took cautious steps, he could already tell something was wrong. The first floor looked relatively normal, aside from a few misplaced items that was, nonetheless a common sight in the Flynn-Fletcher household. But as he stepped onto the stairs, more signs of pandemonium begun to appear: claw marks, ripped carpet, and the unmistakable sense of dread that *something* alive is out there.
Suddenly, a single wooden plank underneath Jeremy’s feet made a creaking noise, and at the same time, a much louder, carnal one reached his ear from behind the door to Candace’s room. Armed with nothing more than an umbrella, Jeremy stepped forward, listening for the unsettling, rustling noises coming from inside.
- Candace? Darling? - he knocked on the door, expecting to hear more racket.
No answer.
With trembling hands, he closed his fingers on the doorknob, and to his surprise, he found them unlocked. With a much louder creak, Jeremy opened the door and stepped inside, carefully looking around for any signs of his girlfriend in distress. It was difficult to find her in the amount of damage at first; both lamps on the sides of her bed were destroyed, the mattress and pillows were ripped, just like the carpet outside, and various memorabilia on the shelves laid, together with the shelf, on the floor. Jeremy looked back and forth, unable to locate her.
He didn’t look up, though.
With a mighty roar, Candace jumped from the wall she was clawed in, onto her prey, and only because of her call Jeremy was able to evade, at least partially, her attack. He screamed, and opened the umbrella, who took most of the damage, but nonetheless served its purpose; Candace was pushed to her back and into the corner, giving Jeremy chance to counter-attack.
- Candace! - he yelled, leaping against his reason towards his snarling girlfriend.
She looked vaguely like her. Her hair was untidy, her brow more bushy, and the angry grimace, so often found on her face was even more prominent now. She was snarling at him, and Jeremy could see enlarged fangs sticking out of her mouth, which, together with her elongated (and still polished) nails explained what caused the bulk of the damage. She was wearing missing pieces of carpet, bedsheets, and, from the looks of it, some movie posters, patched together in form of a primitive one-piece costume.
And she was still eyeing him, with the ferocity he hasn’t seen yet.
- Okay, Candace, take it easy… - Jeremy raised his hand, holding what was left of the umbrella as his weapon - I don’t want to hurt you…
But at that moment, Candace jumped onto him, pinning him to her bed. Her clawed hand dug into the mattress, locking one of his wrists in a peculiar prison, while her other ripped his clothes apart, salivating from her open jaw. Paralysed with fear, confused by her behaviour, and immobilised by Candace herself, Jeremy could do nothing but submit to his girlfriend’s ravenous behaviour, though he didn’t lost the sight of his mission at all.
- Ca-Candace! - he yelped - I want to take you to-to your brothers, they-they will fix you…
He knew he shouldn’t have said that. Candace moved her head, throwing a wild, angry stare at him, one growl of hers telling her she wasn’t going anywhere. And though Jeremy might have figured out earlier what Candace wanted to do with him, only now it became obvious. A steady trickle of her juices dripped from her exposed, naked pussy, now dangling inches away from his crotch, still covered in his boxers. But one last move of her claw later Jeremy found himself naked, if one didn’t count bits of his sleeves and trousers’ legs, which, realistically, did not cover anything important for Candace.
Her smile, became somehow even more carnal, as Candace straddled him, her legs trying to contain his jittering and wriggles.
- Wait, Candace, wait! - Jeremy suddenly screamed, using his only free hand to reach into the dilapidated night-stand. - You forgot the…
But at the mere sight of the multicoloured pack of condoms, Candace became rabid, and his first thought was that she was going to bite his arm off. But she didn’t; like a dog grabbing a string of sausages, she bit the long chain of plastic wrappers and begun tearing them to shreds just with her teeth alone, pausing for a while when she got to the strawberry-flavoured one.
What sounded like a guttural, deep, “No” escaped her lips, and she slammed herself onto his cock, using her claws to immobilise her lover for good. Jeremy let out a yelp, though admittedly, it wasn’t exactly out of fear this time. Perhaps it was the effect of her brothers’ machine, or simply her own, ravenous nature, but she was pushing herself onto him with tremendous speed, bouncing up and down on his cock, coating it heavily with her juices.
The angry grimace on her face turned vaguely upside down, the longer she rutted him, giving Jeremy occasion to show her menacing, sharp teeth. It was difficult for Jeremy to think straight. On one hand, his girlfriend was fucking him wildly, on the other, he knew if he succumbs to the pleasure, it would have dire consequences, and not just the obvious ones. Isabella’s words echoed in his brain, and Jeremy knew that if lets Candace have it her way, she will only become more and more feral.
Gathering tremendous amounts of willpower, and hoping for the best, Jeremy used the temporary moment of bliss that was engulfing Candace’s sense and pushed her up, and grabbed her by her wrists to topple her down. Her behaviour change in an instant, but with her oncoming orgasm hazing her mind, her reactions were slower. Jeremy pushed her to her side, but as soon as she realised she won’t be getting her boyfriend, she fiercely counter-attacked. But Jeremy already had a plan; he allowed her to roll him back underneath her, just so could reach to the other side of the bed, to grab a thick rope that once hold her curtains.
With a might yell, he gathered his strength again, and toppled his girlfriend to her back, before she was able to pin him with her nails. Holding her wrists with one hand, and avoiding her snarling jaw, he tied her to the bedframe, hoping the rope would be strong enough. He manoeuvred out of the deadly lock of her legs, just to grab more things to immobilise her. And soon his belt, as well as the cable to the amplifier were tightly tied around her ankles, though her constant kicking definitely didn’t make it easier.
- Hold… still! - Jeremy yelled, trying his might not hurt his girlfriend, putting destroyed bits and pieces of clothes underneath the make-shift bonds.
He turned around, and met his wild girlfriend face to face. She was still growling, and trying to bite him.
- Don’t you understand? We… I’m trying to help you!
Jeremy cried, and slammed his hands against the bedframe, so much so, the whole thing shook. He expected another snarl to get out of her jaw, but instead, he heard a quiet whimpering yelp that immediately brought his attention. Candace looked scared, cowering in fear, and she even moved her head away when he tried to cup her face.
- Candace, it’s… it’s me, Jeremy. Remember? - Ge…gemy… - a slightly guttural voice responded. - That’s right - he smiled - You’ve had us scared for a while. I’ll need to, uh, tidy you up a bit before your brothers can- - No!
A sharp, vaguely human sounding words escaped Candace’s mouth, as she rattled the metallic bedframe.
- No… No boys. Only Ge… Jermy…
Jeremy moved his hand again, and Candace let him put it on her cheek. A soft, purring-like noise escaped her mouth.
- Jermy… alpha… mate.
His eyes widened, as he suddenly realised what he has to do, what he always had to do.
- Okay, but we’ll do it my way.
Candace smiled and nodded. Jeremy looked to his side, in vain hope to find at least one working condom, but the colourful confetti on the ground told him they’ll need to get to the drug store as soon as he’s done saving his girlfriend. Still taking caution, he leaned against her, and pressed his lips against her, savouring the partially-unknown, musky taste of his changed girlfriend.
He then undid the ties around her ankles, and gently pulled her legs up, so her soaking wet pussy was fully exposed to him. He redid the binding again, locking her legs above her head. He had to be quick; listening to her annoyed and impatient growling, he leaned between thighs, and took the first lick of her juices. Predictably, Candace shuddered, moaning wildly as Jeremy caressed her pussy, performing the foreplay they skipped. And even though she was trying to wriggle out, from her sounds alone Jeremy could tell Candace was enjoying it.
He continued his soft kisses along her thighs and abdomen, making sure to cover as much of her heated body as possible, before he’d try to undo the charm. While his mouth did wonders to her nether regions, his fingers continued to pump more and more juices out of her, until her impatience grew so big, Jeremy started fearing of his life again.
He leaned over her, and slowly, inch by inch, he pushed himself inside her, watching as she throws her head back and lets out a deep, wild cry of pleasure. When Candace moved her head back, she was met with his face, and this time, she was the one to lean in for a kiss. Securing his position, Jeremy gradated the speed of his dives, hoping to squeeze as much of the long, languorous love-making as possible. Granted, with her wrists and ankles tied just inches from each other it wasn’t exactly your typical romantic evening, but then again, Candace wasn’t just a regular girl.
But even with his slower approach, Jeremy knew he’ll have to assert dominance over her. He flexed his muscles, letting the weight of his body push him deeper into her, and as he did so, he suddenly felt the unknown, carnal feeling taking over him. He clamped his hands around her waist to secure his position, as he shoved himself inside her.
- Gah! - Candace cried - Ge.. Jermy! - That’s right, Candace… who is your alpha? - Je… Jermy! - she moaned, letting her boyfriend take over her.
His delicate moves were gone, as he was now hammering his way inside her. He couldn’t recognise himself, as suddenly he was the one letting out occasional growls, though he was sure his fingers still looked the same. In one moment, he jumped from his knees onto his feet, and keeping a steady grip on his girlfriend, he begun mating with her, hoping to dive as deep as possible with each thrust. He watched her face change, as Candace slowly became herself, with each push and pull, and only when the red-haired girl underneath him cried his name, his real name, he came, dragging her with her.
- Jeremy!
Candace’s hands, now much thinner, got out of her restraints, and closed behind his neck, as she pulled him towards her. As Candace’s walls closed around his cock, Jeremy did one last move, spilling his seed deep into her needy pussy, while his knees gave up and he collapsed on top of her. It took him a moment, before his hips stopped their work, though by that time, her sex was already overflowing with his cum, finally satiating both of their wild needs.
- Je… Jeremy… - she cooed, catching breath, and looking into his tired, but satisfied eyes. - Ca…Candace! - he exclaimed - You… You’re *you*, again!
He untied her ankles, and let her legs back into her original position, just before she leapt into his arms, kissing him senselessly.
- Candace… you… You probably don’t remember what happened, and… - Oh, no, I remember it all.
Jeremy blinked.
- Uh, what? - Oh, yeah, turns out when you’re turned into a feral version of yourself you retain all the memories. - she spoke nonchalantly - I went to see what the boys are doing, I grabbed the wrench, hit that button, the button sparked, I got hit by that ray, then I got into a bit of argument with the furniture… - That’s how you call it? - Jeremy chuckled - Shut up, retrospection time. - she continued - And then I waited for you, I’ve been dying to have you…
She closed her eyelids, as her tone suddenly became lower and much, much more sensual than her usual, high-pitched one. She cupped his face, pulling him into a deep, deep kiss.
- And I remember everything we did together… - Ca-Candace… - he interrupted her - We should, go the drug store, we, uh, we didn’t have protection. - I know, I told you I don’t need them today. - W-Wait, how?
Candace rolled her eyes.
- Don’t *you* remember how I took the condoms and tore them apart? Isn’t that obvious it meant we don’t need them? - Well…
She sighed.
- You still have lots to learn. But that… she looked between them, at their still joined bodies - That, was fantastic. Never knew you had in yourself, Johnson. - Well, I think you got it out of me. - he smiled, before the two joined their lips in another long kiss. - We definitely need to repeat that sometime… And by sometime I mean tonight.
It took the two a while to find suitable, undamaged clothes, and to clean themselves up to at least somewhat presentable state, and while Candace got out of it with some dignity, Jeremy had to wear her old shorts and shirt, as they stepped out of the house.
- Candace! You’re fine! - Phineas shouted when she arrived at the porch. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, I’m fine. - she brushed off, marching towards the three - Okay, listen up, we still have lots to repair around the house, but I’m NOT going to tell mom about this, as long as you let me have this machine.
She looked around, trying to locate the peculiar-looking device that used to be the sorbet machine. Suddenly, the familiar feeling of dread took over her.
- Wh-Where is it?! - Oh, we wanted to repair it, so we ordered the reverse button. - Phineas begun. - A-And…? - Candace voice cracked, as she expected the worst. - But they accidentally sent us the “self-destruct” one. Seems they have surplus now, so the machine is gone. - Ferb finished. - Eh, it was probably faulty anyway.
Candace fell to her knees, letting out a wailing cry, as she punched the ground in desperation, contemplating once again the irony of her existence on this planet.
- I’m so going to tell mom that you made that thing and you deliberately destroyed it. - she snarled, getting up on her feet - Come on, Jeremy, we gotta clean my bedroom up so it doesn’t look exactly like what my mom would think it would look like after you visited.
And with that, she stormed back into the house, dragging her peculiar-looking boyfriend, leaving Phineas, Ferb and Isabella in the garden.
- I don’t get it. - Phineas scratched his head - Why does she want it back? It was faulty, who’d like to have a machine that turns you into a ferocious beasts for an hour or two?
Phineas walked to the garage to look for the levitating hoover that would help them. With him out of the sight, Isabella let out a deep sigh, and turned to his brother.
- You sure he is a genius?
Ferb shrugged, leaving Isabella with her own dreams and fantasies, in which Phineas turned into ferocious beasts for an hour or two.

Reevaluating the Phineas and Ferb Effect
Tumblr media
I know I’ve caused a bit of a stir with my vocal opinions on “The Phineas and Ferb Effect”, and how I thought it was something so bad and mishandled it was universe breaking for Phineas and Ferb and Milo Murphy’s Law. The thing is though... I’ve had lots of time to reflect on my positions.
I have come to the conclusion that I was wrong, very wrong in fact. True art takes time to fully comprehend its brilliance, and “The Phineas and Ferb Effect” may be the greatest example of that. I will explain why “The Phineas and Ferb Effect” is not only secretly brilliant, but how it has given me a refreshing new outlook on life. Allow me to explain:
For a long time, humans have been taught that if you try hard enough, you can accomplish anything. Even if we weren’t told this directly, you’d know it just by looking at the world around us. The media is overflowing with hopeful messages that say exactly that.
But people who can’t win, people who don’t try to win, people who try their best and still can’t win...
They are all worthless trash.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those who are born with worth, and everybody else. No matter how hard a lowly human tries, they will never be the same as someone who was born worthy. They say that “effort breeds success”, but that’s a complete lie. The world is not that accommodating.
No matter how hard a small dog tries, it will never become a large dog. No matter how much a penguin tries, there’s no way it will ever soar through the sky. This means unworthy humans will never become worthy, no matter what they do. People with talent don’t become talented, they’re just born with their abilities right from the start.
So, what am I saying? Analysing “The Phineas and Ferb Effect” deeper has caused me to grow an appreciation for its themes. After thinking about my own life, and everyone’s lives around me, I’ve realised that this thinking is not warped, but rational.
Phineas and Ferb, and Dr Heinz Doofenshmirtz - or rather, Professor Time, are worthy humans. We see this in different ways: Phineas and Ferb prove that the Universe directly chooses those who are worthy, meanwhile with Professor Time we see that brilliance and talent, no matter how unrecognised, will always rule out and prove superior.
Throughout Phineas and Ferb, we see the stepbrothers are amazing. It’s because they’re born that way. The Phineas and Ferb Effect shows that their talent is a gift from the Universe itself - if everything will go right for you, it means the Universe recognises you as someone worthy. Hence why we have Phineas Flynn as the Ultimate Creative Mind, and Ferb and the Ultimate Engineer. Together, their ultimate talents are a force to be reckoned with. And as they should, everyone recognises them for who they are and loves them for it.
Professor Time is a more complicated story. Sometimes, people won’t accept the talented and worthy. Sometimes, they will do the exact opposite: treat them as garbage. Professor Time has always been the Ultimate Inventor, however the world resents those who are naturally superior.
What Professor Time needed was hope. Phineas and Ferb always had hope, and thus they were always appreciated, however Professor Time had none. Professor Time had none due to being from a rough background where everyone held him back and was resentful of his abilities.
However, he was fortunate enough to be shown his objective talent shining in the future. If Professor Time was never someone born worthy, then why is he successful in the future? Why is he loved by everyone across space and time? Time travellers that only exist because of his talent and skill came and showed him his predetermined role.
Those born with worth are always meant to change the world. Phineas and Ferb already show that. Professor Time will achieve that. It might not happen immediately, but as long as there’s hope, the worthy will always shine and lead humankind.
That’s why I have so much respect for Professor Time, and even more for Phineas and Ferb. They prove to us their talents are meant to lead the human race. We might have only seen Professor Time’s future, but if we saw Phineas and Ferb’s, I have no doubt they would be leading humankind.
So, everyone else? They’re nothing. Pure and utter nothing.
Candace? She’s envious of her brothers’ natural superiority and wants it herself when she will never be worthy, what human garbage.
Isabella? Trash, she believes in crap like teamwork and friendship, lame. I do however relate to her, she has accepted her inferiority and has seen Phineas and Ferb are superior to her and everyone else, as seen by her deep love for him.
Baljeet? He’s all brains. He has no true talent, he’s just a loser nerd. If he could grow some hope and prove to the world that his intelligence is ultimate worthy, then maybe I could respect him. Until then, he seems to have accepted his place is to serve Phineas and Ferb. After all, what ultimate would fall victim to a dumb plant ray?
Cavendish and Dakota I’ve explained, they accept their low status and realise their place is to follow Professor Time. Cavendish seems to show signs of wanting to be more, but he must know his place. Only Orton Mahlson, the Ultimate TV Star, can stand in the same league as Professor Time.
Perry the Platypus? He might be a secret agent, and a skilled one at that, but he’s no ultimate. He serves the interests of the corrupt government and their forced nanny state, preventing Professor Time from being able to break free of big government and be on top as he should.
I have one concern though, and his name is Milo Murphy. He’s no ultimate, believe me. He’s just a boring, worthless piece of trash like me. He understands his place, and does not seek to be among the ultimates. I actually identify a lot with him, as a fellow lowly and worthless human. My concern is with his affect on probability, known as Murphy’s Law.
Phineas and Ferb are always succeeding, and Professor Time is destined to succeed, and yet the forces of the Universe seek to hold them back. It’s no coincidence they live in the same city as Milo Murphy, and the resulting Murphy bloodline.
I know where the rest of the season must go to reach its destined conclusion: Milo Murphy must be killed. Murphy’s Law is what’s holding the ultimates back, and preventing hope from reigning supreme.
Look, I know Milo Murphy’s death will bring great despair to everyone in Danville. However, his death and the despair created from it are a necessary stepping stone to create the ultimate hope necessary for our ultimates to fully shine. Murphy’s Law brings despair to everyone and everything: eliminate it and Milo’s false hope he tries to promote with it, and nothing holds Phineas, Ferb or Professor Time back.
Through this, Phineas and Ferb’s effect where everything that can go right will go right will finally be able to control everything. The most ultimate ultimates to ever exist can reign supreme! As for Professor Time, he will revolutionise the world as we know it! All of his misfortune will prove to just be because people saw his destiny and were afraid and jealous of his superiority!
JUST THINK ABOUT IT. THE HOPE, I CAN FEEL IT! I CAN FEEL SO MUCH HOPE JUST THINKING ABOUT MY PLAN! SOMEBODY KILL MILO ALREADY, I NEED TO SEE THE ULTIMATE HOPE TO COME FROM IT! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Tumblr media
Oh, also one more thing:
APRIL FOOLS!
okay now that you know i was just fucking around please don’t take this seriously lol

Finally watched MML in English, liveblogging under the cut.
when I watched in Japanese I called the whole thing with Heinz doing the recap "inspired". now that I can understand it, I can see just how inspired it really is (far more than I'd thought), I'm love. I forgot just how much I love Heinz
he doesn't believe Cavendish about him being Professor Time ;_; (admittedly I have Opinions about that whole plotline but)
the jingle for Time Chips, omg
Cav's so willing to strip off for his celeb crush omg. and Heinz is Uncomfortable. (also, looks like "wearing underwear with your crush's face" is a thing people in Dwampyverse do :P)
yeah, accusing Melissa and Zack of dating is sure to be ship fuel
of course the diversion's Melissa's idea, that conniving little (I love her)
"stop foreshadowing" omg
Baljeet's singing is so good. such harmony (my former church choir soprano brain provided the term "descant" but uh yeah)
that jingle XD and of course Heinz's priorities are such a mess that he'd rebrand before he saves the world
Heinz thinking Diogee's an agent, beautiful~ and out of "habit" XD then again, his best friend is short and furry, it's no wonder he'd leap to that conclusion
ahh, foreshadowing with that orange soda thing ("destroying the environment" wow)
Heinz's snark at the questions about Perry, ahaha I love him
okay so "time juice" (it feels weird to hear him call it that) isn't Pizzazzium Infinionite itself, just... similar. :/
"who keeps a clock in their backpack? that's just weird" not as weird as a gd anchor, Milo
"maybe we're related"
"he's either saying he's going with you, or he regrets the impulsive mistakes of his youth" both. it's both, and the """""mistake""""" is falling in love with you, Heinz (but he loves you enough to just sigh about it sometimes)
the way the music pauses when Milo falls into the bush, that's amazing XD
Perry's hypercompetence is so damn attractive, wow *swoons* god I'm such a furry
King Pistachion's instructions to his "kids" is so great XD
that mask gag XD
"too much exposition" "yeah that's probably why your show was cancelled" ooh burn
"yeah no pressure" that's gonna come up later isn't it
Milo's dancing is so great, haha. and that scorecard gag, so perfect
ah, Dwampy, always bringing us those classy bathroom jokes
"Ducky MoGo" I mean it's a catchy name... XD (her intro's kinda underwhelming though. that's where my nitpicks are, the plot)
joking about Ferb talking, nice. and the "yes, yes it has".
"well it does kinda describe us, but it's just rude", that callback :D
"what are the odds" "better than you think" ah yes Milo shows up again
Dakota listing off animals, nice. in alphabetical order, too. also I love that beard sight gag still
"you won't let me sing the zoo song" yeah that probably got old real fast
Go Fish with hot sauce packets. er, hot sauce packet singular. it really says something that Perry's happy to go along with that idea (it's bc it's Heinz, I think)
"'careful' or 'hurry', choose one" yeah it is kinda a choice of one or the other XD
and he squished the hot sauce packet XD
cupholder joke, I love it XD
that extended view of the window with the sounds of destruction. perfect cross-language joke
"what do you usually do when things go wrong" their silence here is telling. (also, the answer? Phineas yells.)
"we have no frame of reference for that" yup
Perry beating up Pistachions to cover for Heinz, I'm love
Candace's attitude to Milo is uh... not fun
"no human being has a neck that long"
ah yes, the duck is still after Elliot, of course
"hey, sometimes Murphy's Law" can be totally helpful!" yyyyyyeah...
oh hey, a woodpecker
okay, the thinking Candace is a Pistachion thing makes that scene make a whole lot more sense
"I was talking about me. we need this guy around" oh, Candace...
"my bad" "we still need him!" I love that XD
the sitcom gags are doubly amusing with the context of the dialogue XD they were good when I watched it originally, but now? amazing. but also wtf Heinz why
"and that's why we use a cupholder"
ah yes, The Island. when I first watched this I knew it was The Island, even before the reveal
oof, Cav dealing with his hero worship not being such a hero. never fun.
Perry's just standing there though, what are you doing Perry
ugh Heinz needs a hug, Perry what are you waiting for
"I know when I'm not wanted" oh Heinz ;_;
it's... it's this bit. where Perry kinda just disappears entirely? there's no other reason for him not going after his nemesis to reassure him the way he always does.
"okay now that's environment. no wonder they banned this stuff." ah yes the callback
and Orton showing up to relate, which is... it makes sense at least? (but where the hell is Perry?)
"oh look a ukelele" Heinz why
ooh the SONG
"and there's a future self up to which I have to measure" oof
"no matter where I go, oh look, I'm already there" *Homestuck intensifies*
and the gd mid-song genre switch. with the "throwing money away" sight gag. ye gods. XD
"I forgot where I was going with this" nice going Heinz
"apparently the locals are not music fans" yeah it takes a suave semiaquatic personification of unstoppable dynamic fury to love your singing voice, Heinz :P
and the reveal of it being The Island, this'll be... yeah
oh hey, voiceover montage song from Milo
is this an Uptown Funk reference? I'm not sure, I don't keep up to date with pop music, but it looks like a reference
OH yeah, Melissa did a ton of research herself. she'd be happy with all this new data
Baljeet's totally flirting there too
...the jokes about Zack and Melissa dating are... idk. they're amusing in the moment but the premise they're built off is uh. I don't like it.
oh boy, the explanation of Murphy's Law... you know, that kinda breaks my suspension of disbelief a little. because instead of unspoken rules, it's now spoken rules with details to find inconsistencies in
"montage time!" I love him
gotta say, I do love the occasional gag of "things spontaneously catch on fire", that's always fun
"several hundred" Dakotas? looks like the 102 estimate from that episode was lowballing... or he's guesstimating
"you're gonna laugh" "probably not" I mean if you set the death montage to cheerful music...
huh, he told the truth. idk why I was expecting him to lie but I was so that's a surprise
he took it really well, which. eh, idk, I figured it'd be used for angst at some point. but apparently not.
oh so it's this SPECIFIC orange soda. also Dakota's been doing this for a while I guess
"well I'm not the environment" these two are... far too similar. Dan Povenmire's typecast himself I guess
"we're gonna need a lot of cupholders" ah yes the cupholder joke again XD
aaaaaand they're captured.
"we had to switch over to the HDMI cables" I love this joke XD
"you and what army" "that army" ahhhh. cliché but always satisfying
oh hi Isabella, showing up in the last uh ten minutes. and flirting a little with Phineas of course but eh this plot point came out of absolutely nowhere
I love how, when Heinz falls out of the thing, Perry's first reaction is to jump out after him and save him. it's a fun dynamic to bring back. also did I mention Perry's competence is attractive?
"oh, that was touching" ahaha XD
"don't mess with Doctor Zone- Doctor Zone? who's Doctor Zone?" XD
welp, giant Pistachion
oof. can really feel its dilemma. poor giant Pistachion :c
giant Pistachion redemption ;_;
"here's an adaptor we needed" XD
AAAAAAA PERRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYy, my heart ;_; he saved them, risking his cover, I can't ;_;
and he retreated to pet mode just in time, ugh ;_; PERRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY ;_;
then he leaves as soon as they're not looking and disappears from the plot
"Murphy's Law And Order" omg
loving that accurate tech support gag
blasting familiar yet not plot relevant characters so we see how bad things are. gotta keep us invested
lemon callback, nice
radioactive watermelon is a bit... out of nowhere. why is he carrying that in his backpack again? (especially when he doesn't carry a clock)
"blowtorch and some peanut butter" nice refrance
yeah, seeing everyone as a Pistachion is... not good. (tbh when I first saw this my only thought was "I hope Heinz isn't in there" bc I'm er biased)
and Heinz is fine, that's a relief. Perry musta kept him safe... speaking of which, where is Perry?
"Vanessa's dad" hm... okay this is a weird epithet but it kinda makes sense with how they'd know him, considering Ferb's crush on Vanessa...
"no, I am Professor Time, and we are not out of time until I say so!" hhhhhh I have a lot of feelings about this. it's dramatic, which is always fun, but. ugh I'm biased, I love Heinz
and the deus ex machina. which is... not quite out of nowhere, but. hhhhhh I have Opinions.
Cav's squee is adorable
nice use of the Doctor Zone theme
ah yes the letter, almost forgot about that plot point from Missing Milo
"I don't feel so good" okay that's not the dialogue but still!
nooooooo not Giant Pistachion ;_;
oh right, in this timeline Doctor Zone wasn't a thing, so Sara's shirt was blank
"wait a minute, why am I still part plant?" amazing
"we're going to be in serious trouble aren't we" yup
rip DEI
"my building! ugh. can I crash on your couch?" CALLED IT
"feel free to cross over any time" heh
oh Heinz XD "where do you guys keep the extra toilet paper? I'm asking for a friend" so either he had an "accident" or Perry had an "accident" (...it's the latter. it's gotta be the latter. Agent Pee strikes again)

More Light Than Heat, Chapter 19
To Watch Skyscrapers Crumble
previous chapter
read on AO3

More Light Than Heat, Chapter 2
In Every Lie, A Bit of Truth
previous chapter
read on A03
masterpost
Phineas opened his eyes and then, in the next instant, closed them again.
Normally he was a morning person.  And a night owl. And...really, he just preferred anytime he was awake because there was just so much to do .  But this morning he had that funny feeling in the pit of his stomach.  It’s not like he hadn’t had them before, or like he was unfamiliar with the string of thoughts cycling through his mind to accompany it, but this time they landed on one he couldn’t shake.
I’m lying to everyone and they’re all going to hate me when they find out.
Technically, he tried to reason, he hadn’t lied to anyone yet.  But he couldn’t not do it.  He’d promised Isabella, and he didn’t want to let her down.
It was the other half of his promise that was making this especially hard.  Any other morning, when his brain wouldn’t stop talking and his stomach churned against him, he’d go to Ferb for a dose of common sense and it always fixed him right up.  But that would require him to tell Ferb about the whole...arrangement.
“Okay,” he whispered to himself.  “You know Ferb like the back of your hand.  What do you think he’d say?”
He heard it as clearly as if his brother had been in the room.  What matters more?  The opinions of the faceless masses, or making Isabella happy?”
“Phineas?  Mum wants to know if you’d like pancakes.”
He sat up, the ache in his stomach dulling.  “Yes please. I’ll be down in just a sec.”
In five minutes, he’d dressed, brushed his teeth, and made his way to the kitchen table, just in time for his mother to slide a plate in front of him.
“Hey Candace.  When’d you get in?”
His sister was too busy flipping through a binder to answer.  Linda rolled her eyes, but she was smiling.
“She came in late last night.  Ten, she said.”
“Oh, you must have just missed Isabella.”
“Thanks for reminding me,” she said, reaching for her phone.  “I’ll have to find out when she’s free to look at bridesmaids’ dresses.  And if she can use her pull at the Fireside Hall to get us a discount. And if she has time to help with the decor or --”
“I thought you planned to use the backyard,” Lawrence interrupted.
“I did, and we’d love to, but I’m a little worried about what happens if it rains.”
Phineas swallowed a bite.  “Ferb and I can take care of that.”
Mouth full, Ferb just flashed her a thumbs up.
“All right...but I still need…”
Her voice did the thing where it got all echoey and far away again.  Phineas swallowed once more, this time just air, and tried to concentrate.  He and Isabella had talked about this, but he had no idea how to feign nonchalance here.  He cleared his throat.
“Uh...speaking of Isabella…”  He breathed out slowly. He actually had no idea if she’d still been talking about Isabella or not.  “I, umm...have news.”
With his whole family staring at him, he almost chickened out, but Ferb’s voice in his head - come on, what wouldn’t we do for Isabella? - convinced him it would be okay.
“Isabella and I...well, she was over last night, and we talked, and, you know, long story short…”  He took a deep breath and then pushed out, “Isabella is my girlfriend now.”
“WHAT?”
And now everyone’s eyes were on Candace and Phineas relaxed slightly.  He wasn’t usually uncomfortable being the center of attention, but his family always saw right through him.  A distraction was welcomed now. Or it would have been, if Candace hadn’t continued, forcing him into the hot seat again.
“Why are you dating Isabella?”
He gaped, blinked a few times, and then did what he always did when lost - he turned to Ferb.  He expected a raised eyebrow, for Ferb to be watching him and waiting for an answer. Instead, his brother’s nose was wrinkled as his steely gaze remained on Candace.
“What’s wrong with Isabella?”
It was like being thrown a life preserver and he scrambled for it, turning his own glare on his sister as he sat up straight.  “Yeah! What’s wrong with Isabella?”
“Nothing!  Most of the time, I like her more than I like you two!”
Phineas looked back to Ferb, who shrugged.  That checked out.
“It’s just weird .  Isabella is…”
“She’s lovely,” Lawrence said, as Candace trailed off.  “We’ve always thought so.”
“And she’s had a crush on you for so long,” Linda said, finally sitting down.  “It’s nice that you finally saw it.”
“Well, she kinda had to spell it out for me.”  Truth.  “But...wait.  You knew?”
“Well...yes.  Yes we did.”
Lawrence chuckled.  “I wouldn’t exactly call her subtle.”
He looked back for Ferb’s opinion, but his brother was absorbed in his pancakes.
“Okay.  Okay, cool.  Well, we’re going to go to the party together tonight, so…”
“Sounds fun.”
“Just make sure you treat her like a lady, eh Phineas?”
“Of course.”  It was so weird how easy this was, so he decided to say something undeniably true.  “I just want Isabella to be happy.”
He finally caught Ferb’s eye, who smiled before standing and starting to clear the table.
“Ferb’s right,” he said, picking up the plate he’d barely touched.  “We should get started on decorating. We’ll be in the backyard.”
In the open air, Phineas’s head felt clearer.  He was looking forward to doing what he did best: throwing himself into a project.
“So, uh...bro.”
Ferb raised an eyebrow at him.
“Izzy said you left during the movie to give us time to talk, so...you know.  Thanks.”
He shrugged.  “What wouldn’t we do for Isabella?”
All of his anxiety melted away and he grinned at Ferb.  “Yeah! Okay, I’m thinking: dance floor that lights up to the beat of the music.  Stage there .  We get the Ferbettes together for a couple songs, and then you do your DJ magic.”
“Is she coming to help set up?”
“Later.  She wanted to spend some time on her dig application today.”
Ferb paused, considering something, then waved for Phineas to follow him.  He led them back to the kitchen where he put the kettle on to boil and pulled down a travel mug.  He placed a tea bag in it and found a bag of trail mix in a different cabinet.
“When we were working on college applications, she always went through a bag of trail mix and she preferred tea to coffee because it kept her focused.”  He filled the cup and put it and the trail mix in Phineas’s hands. “Go. Be a good boyfriend.”
Phineas wasn’t sure what to say so he just nodded once and took the offerings across the street.  Mrs. Garcia-Shapiro opened the door, thrilled to see him.
“Oh Phineas!  Izzy told me everything!  I’m so happy for you two. You’ve always been so sweet to her.  What is that you’ve brought?”
“Hi Mrs. Garcia-Shapiro!  I knew Isabella was working on her application today, so I thought she could use some fuel.”
“How thoughtful!  She’s in her room.  You can go on up.”
He thanked her and went up the stairs.  He knew this path by heart. Since his hands were full, it was a good thing the bedroom door was open.
“Knock knock.”
She said nothing, scribbling something on a sheet of paper.  He cleared his throat. Still nothing. Finally, he crossed the room and set the tea in front of her.
“Oh, hi!  Sorry, I got a little absorbed.”
He chuckled.  “No worries. Ferb thought you’d like trail mix.”
She grinned.  “Perfect. How’s party prep?”
“Just getting started.”
“And everyone took the news all right?”
“Yeah!  It was kinda weird, actually.  Like they were waiting for it or something.  Except Candace. She seemed a little confused…”
“I’m sure I’ll get an earful about it Monday,” she agreed, looking at her phone.  “That’s when we’re going dress shopping.”
Phineas whistled.  “Damn, she works fast.”
“She’s a woman with vision, your sister, and I’ve always liked that about her.”  She smirked. “Runs in the family I guess.”
He smiled.  “And the plans for tonight are the same?”
“Yep.”
He turned to leave but stopped suddenly.  “It doesn’t bother you? To be lying to everyone?”
She shrugged.  “A little, maybe.  But I tried talking to them.  If this is what it takes for me to live my life, so be it.  Besides,” she said with a wink, “There are worse people for me to fake-date.”
He laughed, feeling at ease in the way only she and Ferb ever made him.  He wondered, briefly, what it would be like to really date her. He’d call her a little more often, maybe find a way to visit her at school without Ferb once in a while.  When they talked about the future...well, they were already in each others’ corner, but then they’d be a team, pushing themselves forward instead of just cheering each other on.
He wondered a little longer about why he didn’t want that.
“See you at six?”
He nodded.  “Yeah, sure.  Six.” And he left to help his brother set up the party.
