pairing: xavier thorpe x reader

summary: your best friend xavier only talks to you when it’s convenient, and you’ve always been okay with that. but he’s really pushed it this time.

warnings: suggestive, toxic friendship, daddy issues

a/n: i really like this one! but i need you guys to come through with the requests, i’m not creative at all. comment them below!

the boy’s dorm (3rd person):

it was a friday night in ajax’s room. all the boys were there. kent, ajax (obviously), rowan, xavier, and a few other boys were all in a meaningless discussion about girls. what else would a group of hormonal teenage boys be talking about?

“you guys get no bitches. i literally pulled the hottest werewolf chick in the school.” ajax said confidently. he was talking about enid, the girl he had just taken out on a date earlier that evening.

of course all the boys went into an uproar about how they can pull more “bitches” than the other.

“what about xavier? he has the most popular girl in school. bianca barclay?” one of the boys added.

“xavier has two chicks” ajax explained. “y/n l/n is all over you 24/7”

“that’s not funny, man. y/n is my best friend.” xavier said sounding almost upset.

“so you’re telling me you wouldn’t bang her if you had the chance, because i definitely would.” kent said smirking.

that comment caused all the boy to erupt into a fit of laughter. xavier wasn’t amused as he angrily left the room slamming the door behind him.

in the girls’ dorm (2nd person):

you were in enid’s dorm with enid, yoko, and a few other girls from ophelia hall, just painting each other’s nails and talking about whatever came to mind. when suddenly you brought up the elephant in the room. enid had went out with ajax, her long time crush, earlier that evening, and all of you were dying to hear about it.

“okay e, spill it. how was your date?” you said.

“oh, it was magical! we went on a picnic by the lake! he even offered to take insta pics for me! he’s so perfect.” she rambled with lovestruck eyes. “okay. enough about me. i’m not the only one who’s going to be hammered with questions about their crush tonight.” enid continued. “y/n, when are you going to admit that you are in love with xavier?”

“i’m not in love with xavier.” you scoffed.

you were so in love with xavier. you had been best friends with him since before freshman year at nevermore. you both attended the same middle school. you guys just stuck together when you were sent to nevermore. you both joined the archery club which caused you to spend more time together, and now you guys are practically inseparable. having known each other for so long, you know about his rocky relationship with his father. in fact you are probably the only one who knows all the details. that’s why he always comes to you to talk and trauma dump.

being as close as you guys were, made it impossible for you to not catch feelings. but when he started dating bianca barclay earlier this year, you knew he didn’t feel the same way towards you. so, you have just continued being his best friend and the girl he runs to only when it’s convenient. but that’s enough for you.

“i’m tired” you yawned. “i think i’m going to head back to my dorm.”

“yeah, it’s getting late you guys.” yoko agreed.

and with that you all wrapped everything up and headed your separate ways.

[time skip]

it was saturday, which meant all the nevermore students were aloud to go to jericho. all of your friends already had plans with their boyfriends or their other friends, so you had planned a day out by yourself. you weren’t actually that mad about it. you could use a day alone.

you got up and got ready putting on a cute, but comfy outfit. you did some light makeup, grabbed your bag and headed out.

you decided to walk to town, a little exercise wouldn’t kill you. once you arrived, you headed to the local library to trade out some of the books you had borrowed last weekend. you could use the school’s library, but the selection there was very limited, and you have a very vast selection of books. basically the school library isn’t cutting it, so you find all your novels here.

you walked in the library returning your old books and heading to the shelves to find three more books to hold you over until your next trip to jericho. you found some books that interested you and you checked them out. you shopped around at a few more stores until you went to your last stop. the weathervane.

you walked in and ordered your usual, an iced matcha latte, and headed to your usual booth. you pulled out your laptop and worked on some homework that was due on monday while you sipped on your drink. you were working peacefully for a few minutes when what sounded like arguing snapped you out of your homework.

two tables across from you sat xavier and bianca. they seemed to be arguing about something. xavier looked really upset. you tried your best to make out what they were saying, but it was nearly impossible. they kept at it for a few more seconds before xavier got up and stormed out. bianca put her head in her hands and trailed behind him. part of you wanted to get up, follow your best friend and ask him what was going on, but you knew better. you didn’t want to overstep. if he wanted to to talk to you he would text you. so, you left it alone and continued with your day.

[time skip]

it was 10:00 p.m. that night. you were reading one of the books you had picked up earlier that day. you had your phone on do not disturb mode so you could focus on your book. it never did cross your mind that someone would try to get a hold of you. that is until you heard frantic knocks against your door. you knew exactly who it was. xavier. luckily you had a scored a single dorm this school year, so it wasn’t unusual for xavier to sneak in and hang in your room. but considering what you saw happen today, this wasn’t just a hang.

you quickly hopped off of your bed, shutting your book and taking out your airpods. as soon as you opened the door xavier rushed in and you shut the door behind him.

“why weren’t you answering me?” he asked sort of angrily.

“i was reading and my phone was on do not disturb mode” you replied. “why are you so upset?”

“i found out that bianca was using her siren song on me. god i knew i couldn’t trust her.” he scoffed while running his hand through his long hair.

“i’m so sorry xavier. did you break up with her?” you asked in a settling tone.

“yeah. today at the weathervane.”

of course you already knew that, you watched the whole thing go down. “just know i’m always here for you.” you comforted him as you put you hand on his upper arm.

“i know.” he said as he inched closer to you. he grabbed your chin and pulled your face towards his. your noses were almost touching. his lips lingering over yours. he moved his other hand to the back of your neck and pushed your lips together.

the kiss was hungry, desperate, angry, and full of desire. you wanted more. this is what you’ve always wanted. but why is he doing this. he’s never shown any romantic interest in you. that’s when it hit you.

you pull away.

“w-what’s wrong?” xavier stutters out of breath.

“no. don’t do that. you can’t just come in here and take advantage of me. you can’t just come here and fuck me just because you’re heartbroken.” you say holding back tears.

“do you really think that low of me y/n?” he yells.

“yeah. i do.” you yell back. “this is how it’s always been in the four years that i’ve known you. you only come to me when you’re desperate. like that time in sixth grade when all your other friends had already planned to go to the movies and it was too late for you to join so i was the only one left to hang out with. or that time last year, everyone else already had a date to the rave’n and all the other girls you asked rejected you, so i was your last resort.” you screamed back tears falling down your face.

“i’m sorry y/n.” xavier tried to get out, but you cut him off.

“or like right now. you have blown me off every single time i have tried to talk to you since you got with bianca and you finally talk to when you can’t run to her anymore. not to mention the only time you talk to me is when you need a therapist.” you were now full on bawling.

“i’m really-“ he started.

“now you’re playing with my feelings. can’t you see i’ve been in love with you ever since i’d met you? even when you treat me like crap. no. you only want me when i’m convenient.” you finish.

“y/n, please.” he begged.

“no get out. now.” you cried.

“but-”

“right now. please.” you were desperate for him to leave. you couldn’t even look at him.

with that he got up and walked out and you were left alone with your thoughts. it felt good to get that off your chest after four years.

i do feel bad for fanny. i do. however: george button is just too funny. out of all the side characters in bbc ghosts, i think he'd mesh the best with the current group of ghosts. he'd be down to murder alison, and then immediately abandon julian when he actually tried it. actually, he'd get on with julian like a house on fire. he'd be a terrible influence on the captain, but after, like, five hundred years, he might actually get the captain to decompress and kiss men, who conveniently happen to be him. he'd probably be down to murder with alison as well - he may hate the poor, but he hates barclay more. and he'd badger her for oscar wilde books at five in the bloody morning. imagine what we could have if george died in place of fanny.

Least favorite Star Trek character in each series?

i love all my children equally how could you do this to me!!!!

slightly more rational answer: i have been thinking about this since yesterday when i got the ask and it's like every time i think i have an answer i immediately go "oh but i love them for XYZ" and they move up in the ranks. ultimately most treks are ensemble shows and removing anybody from the ensemble makes it all fall apart!

gun to my head, though, bearing in mind that i love all of them:

tos: gun to my head it's chapel i'm afraid and i feel bad about it. she doesn't really get to grow much and the other most-static character is probably chekov and i had a massive crush on him. in 1967 when they went "you know this show should add a mop top for the teenyboppers out there" they were talking specifically about me 30 years later.

tng: i would take the bullet for real.

ds9: man i'm going through main characters and then secondary characters and then tertiary characters and how are they all so essential and good????? literally i have gone thru a list of characters and a list of episodes and am coming up blank. even the villains are fantastic. eddington is annoying but he's supposed to be and his episodes are all great. sloan himself is fun it's just what section 31 did to star trek in general that sucks. like????? there's not a single name that shows up in the credits that doesn't make me go YEAHHHHHH.

voy: if we can count recurring characters i'm saying barclay. i liked him a lot as a character in tng and but go "for fuck's sake" whenever i see "guest star dwight schultz" on the voyager credits. i dislike pretty much every earth-contact episode after "message in a bottle" so maybe i don't like voyager-barclay because he just happens to be there?? for main cast it'd be neelix shut up shut up i love him in the ensemble but sometimes when they give him his own episode it's too much.

ent: sorry malcolm lovers this was the only show that was an easy choice. like we SHOULD dig into the fact that essentially his greatest wish is to sacrifice himself and he won't be happy until he dies on the job. klingon behavior but not at all for the fun and glory of it just because he kind of just doesn't enjoy being alive???? archer is terrible in so many ways but he's also much more enjoyable to watch being terrible.

disco: this is actually a very weird show to even know who to choose from. the cast changes every year! we barely even know the bridge crew! who is interesting enough to count as a main character?? of the main title cast i'm kind of hot and cold with adira. i like them but the sheer amount of anxiety radiating off them at all times makes me tense up whenever they come on screen. (i just realized it's kind of ironic to say adira because they're basically a mix of wesley and ezri, who would probably make this list for most other trekkies but are two of my absolute faves.) (i will think long and hard about this)

snw: i don't know that i have enough of a read on any of them? i still haven't finished it. chapel (again?? oh no) is the one i had the hardest time warming up to early on because she seemed the most wink-y and out of place in a franchise that usually takes silly things very seriously, but i did warm up to her!

lower decks: if we can go with guest characters i hate badgey (only one on here that gathers the "hate" rating!!). i don't find him (it??) funny and i know i SHOULD find it funny which means whenever it shows up i am both not having a good time and feel bad about not having a good time. the main characters are all brilliant. gun to my head it's boims but it's a close one i love them all.

i don't even know what other shows we have i've run out of steam???

oh right picard. captain shaw??? why is such a large subset of fandom so horny for him??? and shipping him with seven of nine of all things???? is it just White Guy With Trauma because there are like. a lot of other white guys with trauma in this franchise to choose from.

↳ yourinstagram: the reason i publicly spoke out is because i was EXHAUSTED after the band and forth conversations that i would have with people in power at the NFL and ESPN… female employees getting underpaid in comparison to male employees has been an issue since before i signed my contract with the companies. it got the point where i had to speak up publicly or else i would just be wasting my time and getting underpaid for all of my hard work. i would rather get fired than to stay under a contract with the NFL and ESPN for any longer than i have.

- Dating her is a little hard because of her whole siren thing going on, and the fact she’s super popular and all her friends look like they’re going to kill you. But somehow being her partner kind of puts a barrier around you so no one can hurt you, physically, emotionally, or socially.

- You basically become untouchable.

- It’s also kind of tricky to date her because there’s so many rumors that she manipulated you to get with you but that isn’t true at all.

- Bianca has so many doubts and fears that you’ll leave her like her exes have done in the past because of some rumor that happened, so she’s secretly insecure and VERY jealous. She just hates seeing you talking with anyone who isn’t her.

- If you’re talking to anyone with status ((or even worse, someone with no status at all)) she’ll interrogate you with 50 questions.

“So, Y/n, who were you talking to?”

“My—“

“You know it’s actually funny because I heard that the person you keep leaving me to hang out with actually sleeps with multiple people, so I don’t know what you're doing with someone like that since it obviously is weird and you're MAKING it weird by ignoring me for them.”

“Bianca that’s my cousin.”

“…Oh! Ignore what I said.”

- Ok besides all that other stuff, Bianca is so sweet and protective towards you. She also spoils you a lot and doesn’t take no for an answer.

- Her love language would be acts of services and also giving gifts, but not like Enid, since her gifts usually have more expensive taste—hence why when you protest against it. When you decline, she doesn’t take no for an answer. It WILL show up in your dorm room on your bed or on your desk if you refuse in person.

- Something she loves to do is when it comes to showing affection Bianca really likes when she’s able to wrap her hands around your waist and pull you into her chest, as close as possible, and give you soft kisses on the back of your neck.

- When you really get to know her, she’s actually really deep ((haha siren joke)) and interesting. At first you thought she was very surface level ((haha another siren joke)) like most popular people in Nevermore were. Especially with Bianca who’s a perfectionist.

- Expect really introspective talks because of that, like the kinda talks that make you really think about your life and how far you’ve come. Usually they take place at the Weathervane or on the dock by the lake under the stars.

- She likes your bitchy side a LOT. Especially when you’re shit talking someone you both don’t like, she gets totally giddy from her end. Plus she really likes looking and swooning over you when you’re heated in the moment. Despite being fuming.

- Corner. Mouth. Kisses.

- Light touches when she kisses you too, like just barley there grazes of her fingers against your cheeks and collarbone.

- Fights with her don’t last long because they’re usually caused by her insecurities and fears, but if SHE makes the mistake then she does everything in her power to fix it. Yeah, she’s silent at first because she’s stubborn ((like me fr)) but after a day, at most, of giving you the silent treatment then she finally comes to sit by you and just roll her hands on her knees and apologize very quietly.

- Biance is the type to compliment you for you. Example : “You make me feel safe.” “You have the type of presence that makes everyone feel better.” “You have such a warm soul.”

first meeting/modern au - edwina sharma x prince friedrich

"This is an expensive dress."

"As is this watch, perhaps that's why we are stuck like this."

Edwina cannot help but giggle at the situation. Leaving her hotel room, carrying multiple bags herself, plus her own clutch, was not the best idea. The dress, a deep pink with wide sheer sleeves was beautiful when she bought it.

She had not expected to bump into a stranger and get stuck to him. Sophie had said the dress would help her pull - Edwina did not think that she meant this!

The stranger was more amused than anything.

"Let's see," He hums gently as he works to unhook the material from his timepeice. A small thread had hooked itself onto the small movement.

"It is a beautiful watch." Edwina compliments weakly.

"It was my father's." He tells her.

He managed to unhook them, "Well, he was rather a, ah, lothario?" He says, "I do hope this was not one of his tricks."

"Um, I'm Edwina." She introduced.

"Freddie." He shook her hand and then looked at the time, "Ah, good, not late at all."

She gently grabbed his wrist to see that it was nearly six and cursed quietly whilst Freddie raised an eyebrow amused.

"Late for a meeting? Let me guess, an accountant?" Freddie asked.

"Oh, but this is all the rage at Barclays!" Edwina jokes, "No, it's my sister's bachelorette party." She began to pick up the glittery party bags.

"Here let me help. It is the least I can do." He takes four of the six bags and they walk to the elevator together as Edwina tries to avoid direct eye contact.

"These are beautiful party favors," Freddie says.

"Oh, I put them together - a little something for my sister and the group," Edwina explained.

"Slippers?" He gestures to the fluffy items wrapped in plastic.

"You do not know the pain of wearing heels for hours on a night out, do you?"

He clicked his tongue, "Second year of undergrad refreshers week - I won a bet." He says. She giggles. Stand up! Edwina scolded herself.

"You must be really close to be doing all this?" Freddie asked.

Edwina shrugs, "It's nothing. Kate, she would do the same. She's always taken care of me and I just want all of this to go well. For her to have so much fun before going on to have more fun. And I love planning things. And gift bags. This was perfect for me!"

Freddie smiled gently at her enthusiasm as she looked away, her face warm with embarrassment.

"I am the eldest myself." He tells her, "My sister is still in school - uh, year 12? She wants to be a vet and wants me to get married so she can wear a ball gown."

"Oh good for her. You are a cruel brother, depriving her of the occasion!" Edwina playfully gasped.

He grinned, "I am just awful. What about you?"

"What about me?"

"Will your sister be struggling with gift bags with slippers and candy anytime soon?"

"I'm not the greatest at dating." Edwina said sheepishly, "I mean, I have been on dates but..." She shuts her eyes in embarrassment as she rambles and stutters.

But Freddie wasn't teasing or judgmental, smirking and said, "You are single. Good. I still have a chance."

They reached the ground floor and he dutifully followed her to the hotel bar and restaurant to the booked table.

Kate was at the bar, dressed in a mini silver dress and excited to see her sister escorted by a very handsome man.

Kate mouthed 'who's the hot guy?' from behind and Edwina's eyes widened in embarrassment.

"Thanks." She said shyly to Freddie who grinned.

"Have a fun night," He said with a wink and then left, but not before looking back at the funny woman in pink.

Kate smirked, then deepened her voice, "Have a fun night," She said mockingly, "I think he wanted to have a good night with you."

"Shut up. He was just a nice man." Edwina scolded and decided to distract her sister by waving her goody bag in front of her face which only worked momentarily.

"You are beautiful, bon. Thank you for all of this."

"Well, how else shall I celebrate your first marriage?" Edwina teased, making her laugh.

"Anyway, who was the cute man?"

Edwina shrugged, "I don't know. Our rooms are next to each other."

"Ooh, maybe it's fate!" Kate teased.

Edwina shook her head but there was a part of her that hoped so. She didn't realize that Freddie felt the same way.

Oneshot sequel to 'Think'. Q returned you and the other nineteen crew members to the ship, but people are acting... strangely. (Inspired by a funny mistake in my previous Q fic)

Irresistable

It had been three days since you had been kidnapped by Q and forced to play his game. Three days since he promised to drop by every so often to make your life 'more interesting'. For a short period of time you lived in fear of when that moment would be and, more importantly, what he would do. Then, sometime around the second day, your priority shifted from Q.

You didn't know whether you were paranoid, whether your fear of Q was translating to other meaningless things, or if something was actually going on, but...

Everyone was staring at you.

At first you assumed it was because your experience with Q had made you and the nineteen other crew members the hottest gossip on the Enterprise. But then it got weird.

Conversations would stop as soon as you entered a room, people would go out of their way to talk to you or do you a favour, and if you didn't get at least six compliments upon entering a room then the room was empty. Not only that, but you had been asked on more dates than ever before in your entire life. Dinner, lunch, breakfast, afternoon tea - people were desperate to squeeze in some quality time with you.

But most of all, they stared.

You were in one of the jefferies tubes replacing a burnt out conduit. Commander La Forge had insisted on helping you... by standing just outside of the tube... and chatting. It wasn't really like him to stand around and talk while there was work to be done, but you weren't about to question a superior officer.

"...and then I came in and fixed the neutrino field in two seconds. Guess what the problem was!"

You smiled as though you were amused by Geordi's story as you worked. In all honesty, you were a bit worn thin by people trying to be relatable to you over the past few days. Still, even before the Q incident, Geordi had been nice to you. You weren't about to brush off his polite attempts at socialising now, even if it was a little exhausting.

"What was it?" you asked, humouring him.

"No converters! They thought they could not only start up a neutrino field, but stabilise the entire thing without any converters!"

While Geordi laughed, you gave a forced chuckle. You got the feeling that even he knew he was scraping the bottom of the barrel for conversation material. It was lucky for him that the burnt out conduit was behind several wires and tubes and partially melted to the framework of the ship, otherwise you would have come up with some excuse to leave over an hour ago.

Geordi sucked in a breath and you knew he had just thought of a new topic to discuss.

"That actually reminds me of the time -"

Commander Data's calm voice hit the air. "Geordi, may I have a word with you?"

"Not now, Data!" Geordi whispered harshly.

"Is now not a good time?"

"Lieutenant (Y/N) and I were just talking -"

"Actually, I'm done!" you announced, crawling back out of the tube. When you stood upright, you came face to face with Commander Data. He was an android - a tall, very pale and slightly yellowish android with golden eyes, who was well known for his inability to experience any emotions.

So why his entire face twisted into shock upon seeing you was something you didn't feel qualified enough to answer. His bright golden eyes were locked onto you like you were some sort of mythological being come to life. Whatever the expression was, you were pretty sure it meant that something was seriously wrong.

Geordi noticed, too. He put a hand on Data's shoulder.

"Data, what's the matter?"

"I..." The android appeared at a loss for words. "I am not certain. This is the eighth time in three days that I have been overwhelmed by this... urge."

"Urge?"

Data turned his head to Geordi and his tone became almost conversational. "It is what I came to speak to you about. I believe I am experiencing some kind of malfunction."

"Alright, let's go check out your neural net, see if there's anything going on we should know about." Geordi gave Data a light pat on the back and together the two commanding officers walked away.

You stood alone for the first time since waking up that morning. No one had noticed that you were on your own so no one was rushing up to impress you or ask you to dinner or... stare.

As much as you hoped Data was okay, you were glad for the distraction. For this brief moment, you could finally relax.

"Hello again."

You cried out and jumped away from the jefferies tube, where Q was laying flat on his stomach with his head propped up on his hands. He seemed to be in a good mood, with a cheery smile and mischief dancing in his eyes. He suddenly reminded you of a grinning Cheshire Cat.

"You!"

Q gave a light chuckle. "How observant of you," he remarked snidley. "And how are you today, (Y/N)? I must say, you have been quite popular since you came back." He raised his eyebrows. "A new shampoo you're using?"

"You're behind this, aren't you?"

Q pretended to be shocked, putting a hand to his chest and gawking up at you. "Me? Now, why would I do such a thing?" His face dropped into a wicked grin. "I'll see you later - if you can squeeze me into your busy schedule, of course."

In a flash of white light he was gone. You huffed and stormed out of engineering.

If Q was going to mess with you, then you were at least going to try and figure out exactly what he did. Everyone seemed to be experiencing some sort of strong emotion towards you - possibly attraction, but possibly something else. Either way, when it came to emotions, you knew there was only one person you needed to speak with.

You stood outside Counsellor Troi's quarters. It was within her usual therapy hours and you were fairly certain that she wasn't on the bridge. You pressed the buzzer and the door slid open almost immediately. Counsellor Troi stood before you in her red one-piece uniform with her long, dark, wavy hair tied up into a high ponytail. The second her black half-betazoid eyes locked onto you, a huge smile curled onto her lips.

"(Y/N)," she greeted warmly. She stepped aside and held her arm out toward her lounge. "Come in. Is there something on your mind?"

"One thing, actually," you said, walking in and taking a seat. She took a seat in the chair opposite you, crossing one leg over the other and linking her hands over her knee.

"Oh? And what might that be?"

"People have been acting strange around me. Ever since I came back from Q's..."

Counsellor Troi wasn't listening. You could see her eyes had dropped to roaming over your body. You cleared your throat loudly and she startled straight in her chair. She gave an apologetic smile.

"Sorry. Please, go on."

"Well, as I was saying, ever since I came back from Q's game, people have been all over me. People are staring at me, they're going out of their way to talk to me, and I'm getting flooded in requests for dates -"

"Maybe you're just popular?" Troi laughed.

"But it's more than that. Q visited me today. He didn't openly admit to anything, but I'm certain he's behind it."

"Q visited you today?"

"Yeah. I think me winning his game means I've just won a lifetime's supply of Q antics to deal with."

"Have you told Captain Picard about this?"

"No, not yet, but I -"

"I think," said Counsellor Troi, standing up from her chair and walking around behind you. "After this session, you should go and inform the captain about what's going on. In the meantime..."

Her hands slid down over your shoulders and massaged the muscles around your neck. She leaned down and breathed in your ear.

"Relax..."

"Uh!" You quickly shimmied out of her grasp and sprang back up to your feet. You backed away from her towards the door with a nervous chuckle. "I-I actually have to go. Important things to do. No time for massages."

"(Y/N)?"

"Thanks for the therapy! Bye!"

You raced out of Counsellor Troi's quarters and headed straight for the turbolift. Clearly, Troi was a little too distracted to help on her own.

Omnipotent being or not, Q was going to get an earful if he showed his face again.

You took the turbolift to the bridge. The second you stepped out, Lieutenant Worf, the klingon chief of security, looked to you. At first it was just him casually glancing over from his station, but when your eyes met he went rigid, like someone had come up from behind and electrocuted him. His expression was tight and his eyes were wide. You could barely believe the idea, but it seemed almost as though you had scared him.

"Just here to see the captain," you explained. Worf gave a stiff nod.

The klingon's eyes were trained on you the entire time you walked over to the door to the captain's ready room. Other personnel on the bridge who had noticed your presence watched you with stunned fascination. The word 'creepy' didn't cover just how uncomfortable you were.

The ready room door slid open and out walked Commander Riker, almost knocking you over with how fast he was walking. He grasped your arms to steady you. Then his eyes met yours and a large flirtatious grin spread across his face.

"Well, well, well..." he said, dark eyes sparkling as they took you in. "Lieutenant (Y/N), isn't it?" He dropped his hands from your arms. "What brings you to the bridge?"

"I'm, uh... actually here to see the captain."

"Oh? Lucky him," Riker smiled. "I don't suppose I'll see you down in Ten Forward tonight? We haven't gotten to know each other very well since you transferred here and I think it's about time we did."

"Uh... Maybe some other time, sir. I'm a little preoccupied right now."

"I see. Well, feel free to come talk to me after my shift whenever you're available. I really would like to get to know you better."

With that Commander Riker walked off. Sighing quietly to yourself, you buzzed the ready room door and you heard the captain order for you to come in. You pressed for the door to open and stepped inside the smaller room, delighted and relieved to be shielded from the stares of the bridge personnel.

"Captain, I -"

Captain Picard was sitting behind his desk, staring at you, stunned, like he couldn't believe what he was seeing. He cleared his throat and adjusted his position in his seat before giving you a nod.

"Please, continue. What is it you need, Lieutenant?"

"Captain, it's Q -"

"Q?!" the captain repeated, alarmed. A weary look overcame him. "What has he done now?"

"Everyone is acting strangely, sir. Everyone is staring at me, going out of their way to spend time with me, and it's not just some sort of spike in popularity. It's like everyone has suddenly become obsessed."

"And you think this is Q's doing?"

"He visited me earlier. It was pretty obvious that he had something to do with it."

Picard leaned forward onto his desk. "Any idea what he wants or why he might be doing this to you? In my experience, Q usually has some sort of moral lesson to teach or an ulterior motive."

"He told me three days ago that he planned on making my life more interesting."

"Why?"

You sighed. "As a reward for winning his game."

Picard's brow furrowed in thought. "So, you're saying that as a reward for solving his game he's rewarded you by making the entire crew overwhelmingly attracted to you?"

You blinked dumbly at the captain. Captain Picard's eyes widened slightly, realising what he had just admitted, and cleared his throat again. You had never seen the captain look so sheepish.

"I think perhaps it's best if you wait in your quarters until Q arrives again so you can question him further. I've had reports of personnel fighting over the others that had been taken by Q during his game. Whatever is going on between you and Q, I don't think that you're the only one that's been affected."

"I see. Thank you, sir."

"You're welcome, Lieutenant." The captain gave a tight-lipped smile. He seemed just as uncomfortable as you in this whole mess. "Dimissed."

You left the captain's ready room back out onto the bridge. Instantly, every eye was on you. Commander Riker was the only one to smile at you from his seat, while everyone else seemed to be in awe of your very existence.

The second you stepped into the turbolift and the doors slid shut, you let out a deep breath. Unfortunately, the moment you arrived on your level and the doors reopened you came face to face with Mr Barclay. The poor man took one look at you and was stumbling over himself trying to say 'hello'. He was a shy man to begin with and this newfound effect you had on people was taking its toll.

You greeted him politely as you passed him. The man was bright red. You would have thought it sweet if you hadn't known already that this was all Q's doing.

Upon reaching your quarters, you looked forward to the time alone as you waited for Q to show up, to be free of the constant staring and talking and flirting. Your moment of relief was quickly ruined when soft music hit the air and you realised that Q was once again lying across your bed, only this time he was dressed in a red silk robe and surrounded by red roses. He held one of the roses in his hand, waving it just under his nose, and threw you a wink.

"Welcome to later."

"Very funny," you scolded. You walked closer to the bed, scowling down at the omnipotent entity. "Why are you doing this?"

"Can't a Q have a little fun now and then?" Q huffed and rolled his eyes. "Honestly, you mortals have no sense of humour."

"I heard you were forced to be a human once."

"What about it?"

"Well, would you have liked it if everyone was throwing themselves onto you wherever you went?"

Q hummed in thought. "Good point, I suppose. I must say, your nerves about me being here seemed to have disappeared. The (Y/N) I met in the shuttle three days ago would never have talked to me like this. The (Y/N) I met three days ago would have been terrified that I would do something horrific like throw them into a black hole or lock them away forever in a box and sell it to a ferengi merchant."

"Well, back then I thought every interaction with you would mean constantly dealing with the lives of both myself and the crew!" You gave a humourless laugh, "Not making everyone on the ship attracted to me for your entertainment! Really, what could you possibly gain from this?!"

Q raised an eyebrow up at you, still lying on your bed in his silk robe. "So you're not scared of me anymore?"

"You're bored, not evil." You shrugged, "I mean, sometimes you might be trying to teach..."

And suddenly you understood.

"You wanted to show me..." you said, looking down at Q in a new light, "That it wouldn't always be life and death."

Q stood up from the bed and smiled down at you. "You humans are so easily frightened by the unknown, yet always rushing towards it out of some blundering curiosity you can barely control." He shook his head at you, "I'm not here to be some undiscovered specimen or the monster under your bed."

You smirked. "You're here for your own amusement."

Q held a rose out to you, which you took and glanced over. There was nothing special about it; just an ordinary red rose.

"Leave the worrying to Jean Luc," said Q, watching as you studied the flower. You perked up at the sound of his voice, your eyes meeting as he looked down at you earnestly. "Not everything that's unknown is a bad thing. Not everything unexpected needs to be analysed for a flaw or a trick. Sometimes, good things happen, too."

A flash of white light and Q and all the flowers on the bed were gone. Only the rose in your hand had been left behind. In the following silence, you looked down at the rose, and you smiled.

Do you notice any differences between boxing and MMA fans? As i've watched more boxing recently I've encountered boxing fans on Twitter and forums and I can see that a strong sense of nationalism is there, the dismissal of history to get behind a hype train(reactionary), Though I feel as though boxing fans are more fragmented. This means some people are fans of certain fighters and weight classes and just disregard others in a way I have seen really in the UFC. I'm curious what you think the differences are between them.

There are different types of boxing fans just like there are different types of MMA fans. Lots of reactionaries or casuals who dismiss history of things that aren't easily presented to them. Look at how dismissive a lot of boxing fans were of Usyk and Inoue until they beat AJ and Fulton and compare it to how dismissive UFC fans are of non-UFC fighters. There are fans super dedicated to preserving the history of both sports. There are fans who only care about what's going on now. MMA hasn't quite gotten to that time where we're wondering if the current best heavyweight in the world could hang with Fedor yet like boxing fans do with Ali and Tyson, but we'll likely get there someday.

As for general differences I've noticed?

I agree with you that the decentralized nature of boxing leads to people being more fans of certain fighters rather than the sport as a whole. Like, there's a decent chance an avid Terence Crawford or Canelo fan has never seen an Anthony Joshua or Tyson Fury fight while I doubt most people who have watched one UFC champion have never seen others. The really funny part is that you'll have fans of like the 5 top P4P guys being dismissive of the other fighters' accomplishments out of straight ignorance and disrespecting the sport in the process.

I think that also attributes to boxing having more tribalism in it. There is an established boxing scene in almost every country with there being ATG fighters and world champions from like every corner of the planet. Plus boxing's long history of mixing with politics and political movements. There's a lot there. For as much as MMA is an international sport, the UFC is an American business. If Jan Blachowicz had won a world title in boxing, you bet your ass he would have defended it in Warsaw. If Tom Aspinall were a boxer, he'd probably never leave the UK after winning the heavyweight title. There's also just a lot less casual race science being thrown around by MMA fans than there are in the worst parts of boxing online discourse.

I think your average boxing fan tends to be older, though I think there has been an influx of new boxing fans thanks to guys like the Pauls, Ryan Garcia, and other big social media figures. But if you go to a boxing card at like the Hulu theater or the Barclays, you'll see what I mean. It's a lot of guys in their 50-60s. In MMA, I think you get a lot of guys in their 20s-40s. And you can tell they are young because they are chugging beers while jumping up and down screaming at like 7pm. I think this is also reflected in the fact that the online community for MMA is generally much larger than for boxing.

MMA fans are more obsessed with boxing than the other way around. Real little brother complex.

But again, there are different types of fans across both sports.
