SEE YOU AGAIN .ᐟ | PEETA MELLARK
PAIRING. peeta mellark x fem!tribute! reader
SUMMARY. During the events of Catching Fire, you and Peeta have an intimate moment. (Possibly not meant for the camera’s *wink wink*)
AUTHORS NOTE. this is the first thing i’ve ever wrote, please leave me alone if it’s bad. i’m improving lols.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“What about you?” you muttered with a sore achy voice. A familiar silence filled the atmosphere before Peeta answered, “Nobody needs me.”
You looked at Peeta with a sad look, you wish he knew how much he meant to you. You wish he could see the love you have for him. “I do.” You looked at Peeta’s eyes as his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“I need you.” You looked at Peeta’s eyes deeply and then faintly looked at his lips. They never looked so pink until now, or were they always that way? Suddenly you felt the urge to kiss him and you did. At first he was stiff not knowing what to do before he slowly melted into the kiss. He placed his hands onto your hair, gently gripping it.
He then kissed you more passionately, he wrapped his hands around the back of your neck. In that moment, he never wanted to let go. But when he did, he knew it wasn’t for the Capital to see. She kissed him because she loves him, or at least he hoped.
“Alright lovebirds!” Johanna yelled which pulled Peeta and Y/N out of their trance. Y/N looked at Peeta one last time before walking over to where the group was camping. Leaving Peeta in his own thoughts.

omfg it’s been over a year since my biggest slay 🕺🏻
sorry, sirius!
gn!reader x regulus black (they/them pronouns)
summary: you fell in love with your bestfriend’s brother, and the two of you have to keep it a secret.
warnings: kissing, upset!regulus, maybe angst??, sirius being dramatic, idk lol
word count: 1.3k
a/n: this was the most voted so i must give the people what they want :) also i didn’t really know how to end this so, i’m sorry if it sucks & i didn’t proof read lol, i just wanted to get this fic out haha.
Tumblr media
you recalled the first day of your second year at hogwarts. you were waiting for sirius at kings cross with remus, james, and peter. little did you know that it would be the day you met the boy you loved; if you were to tell twelve year old you that you’d be in love with sirius’ younger brother— you probably would’ve slapped yourself.
“there he is!” remus was the one who spotted sirius, being able to see over mostly everyone at mere age of twelve.
“hey guys! this is my little brother, regulus” sirius introduced him as he greeted the rest of you. he had the same hair that sirius had, only it seemed thicker and it grew to the nape of his neck. you noticed he was shy; he hid behind sirius the entire time, rarely speaking and when he did it was only to sirius.
now almost four years later, the same shy boy that you met your second year on the train was gripping onto your waist with one hand while the other was tangled in your hair as you two hid in a broom closet for a bit of snogging.
“ow—“ you mumbled against him when he pushed you against a shelf causing you to hit your head on a bucket of rags.
“sorry!” he broke apart from the kiss. only a few centimeters of space between the two of you as he rubbed the back of your head sympathetically.
“we have got to find a different place to snog that doesn’t smell of bleach” you breathed out as you moved a bottle of bleach away for your face.
“or” he dragged the word, “we could just go to my dorm instead of you sneaking into it at night” he said as he fixed his tie that was previously being tugged on.
“c’mon reg, you know we can’t do that” you kissed him sweetly, he didn’t return the kiss as he was too busy pouting.
last year, the two of you had gotten especially close due to him joining the advanced potions class where slughorn partnered the two of you together.
after a night of studying together in the library, regulus had gathered up the courage to kiss you and to his luck, you kissed him back. in all honesty, you had always had a tiny crush on regulus, although you felt extremely guilty about it. sirius was your bestfriend and i would have been wrong to go after your bestfriend’s brother— but technically regulus went after you so you didn’t feel too bad about it.
since then, the two of you had been secretly dating; midnight dates in the astronomy tower, sneaking around during sirius’ quidditch practices, and snogging in broom closet— hence your current situation.
“so, we can’t be a regular couple because you’re afraid of my brother finding out or because you’re embarrassed to be dating sirius black’s younger brother?” he inquired.
“im not embarrassed of you reggie! you’ve got a game today so don’t waste your energy bickering with me” you changed the topic.
regulus was never good with telling you how he felt but his facial expressions told you all you needed to know; he was upset, very upset.
“yeah whatever, i’ve got pre-game practice to go to, see you” he walked out before you were able to give him a kiss goodbye.
at the game you watched with peter and remus, who managed to get lily evans to tag along; james’ probably begged remus to get evans to come along.
peter had been cheering for his two best friends on the field, “did you see that?” peter shouted at you “james nearly caught the snitch!”
“huh? oh uh, yeah, so close!” you pretended to have been paying attention— well you were paying attention just not to james.
your eyes were on regulus and the way his hair got in face as he flew through the field. the way his hands gripped onto his broom. you wanted nothing more than to let the entire world know how much you loved him.
the game went on and both james and regulus were reaching towards the golden snitch and everyone was on the edge of their seats; even lily was cheering for james.
“whoohoo! let’s go potter!” lily yelled out, accidentally catching james’ attention. you could see his eyes light up before regulus shoved him out of the way and james nearly lost his balance.
“c’mon reg” you whispered to yourself as you saw the snitch only a few centimeters away from regulus’ fingers tip and then boom! he caught it.
slytherins were cheering and ran onto the field, congratulating regulus. remus and peter ran down to the sidelines where james and sirius stood with looks of annoyance.
you ran down the stands onto the field, pushing through the crowd of slytherin. regulus was sitting atop the shoulders of two of his teammates.
“oi! black!” you shouted out at him, you quickly caught his attention, and he hopped off of his teammates shoulders and his wide smile quickly faded.
“can i help you?” he said in an nonchalant manner.
you grabbed onto the sides of his face and crashed your lips into his. nothing but cheers and whistles in the background, but for a spilt second, it felt like you and regulus were the only people on earth. his hands placed on your lower back, pulling you closer.
everytime your lips were against regulus’ it felt magical, but this? this was freeing. it felt enlivening to finally be kissing regulus in front of the entire school.
once you pulled away, regulus had a huge grin on his face, probably the happiest you’ve ever seen him. his smile quickly faded when he turned to the right.
you followed the direction of his stare and your eyes were met with james, mouth gaping with pure shock on his face. remus, a look of not-so-shocked shock. peter, wide eyed with pure confusion.
and then there was sirius, his eyebrows were furrowed and he was blabbering like a baby, “but- did you- no! uh- what? how? why?- YOU!” you and regulus walked to the side of the field where the marauders stood, “you’re shagging my baby brother!” sirius cried out.
“i’m 16 and taller than you!” regulus flayed an arm around while the other was resting around your shoulder.
“shut up! the grownups are speaking!” sirius put a finger in front of regulus face.
you and sirius began bickering, sirius mostly spoke of how wrong it was and how angry he was, while you blabbed about how it wasn’t wrong and that he should happy for the two of you. both do you were interrupted by a loud noise— regulus fired a firework into the air.
“okay! it’s my turn to speak, big brother, and your turn to shut up because seriously do you ever shut up?” regulus concluded “i’m sorry, sirius! but don’t blame y/n. i’m the one who kissed them last year, and i don’t regret it, at all! because of it, i’ve found the one person that i want to spend the rest of my life with! they’re the most amazing person i’ve ever met, every minute i spend with them is the happiest minute of my life and every second i’m away for them, it hurts and i never want to be away from them!” he yelled as sirius stood silent and listened, if anything sirius looked almost— impressed.
it was the first time that regulus ever properly expressed the way he felt about you.
“i love you, y/n” regulus turned to you, cradling your face in his hands; the first time he ever said those words.
“i love you too, reg” you said before placing a sweet kiss on his lips.
“oh, well, i didnt know you two were in love! okay! alright! it’s fine by me” sirius cheered and interrupted the sweet moment you two were having.
“we would’ve been together whether it was ‘fine by you’ or not.. just saying” regulus stated before wrapping his arms around you and exhaling, feeling beyond overjoyed. it felt good to finally be able to be together, even if it didn’t last long. you loved him and he loved you, for as long you could— regulus was right about one thing; he spent the rest of his life with you.

James and Lily sat right next to each other on his bed, his arm around her shoulder’s while she sat upright with her hand on his knee. They were watching Romeo and Juliet, Lily being invested in the story and making commentary while James couldn’t take his mind off of Y/n and Otto.
Who would like a guy named Otto? He thought to himself. Disgusting, self-absorbed git. Looks like a trash version of Lucius Malfoy, and that’s saying something since Malfoy looks like the trash version of himself.
“James?” Lily’s voice went in one ear and out the other. She nudged him gently. “James? James? Jamie?”
“Huh?” His head snapped to face her. “Yeah?”
“You’re about to crush your soda can. Are you alright?” Lily gestured to the Diet Coke can in his free hand. One side of the can was already dented, and if Lily hadn’t stopped him, then the soda would have ended up all over them and the bed.
“Oh, yeah. Sorry, I was just lost in thought,” James said. He set the can down on the table next to the couch, sitting back and setting his eyes on the tv screen.
“Do you want to stop watching the movie?” Lily asked.
He shook his head, “no, I’m enjoying it.” He honestly had no idea what was happening. He knew the two would die in the end, but he didn’t know much beyond that, and neither did he care. He would rather have the movie on as background noise while contemplating how to get away with murder than a silent room.
“Alright,” Lily hummed. Her eyes slowly slide back onto the screen. She begins to play with her fingers, knowing that James wasn’t paying attention the tiniest bit. She knew that something was bothering him, and she has a feeling it was Y/n.
And speaking of Y/n, she was in the library with Otto. They were in the comfortable seating area, Otto in a single-person chair, and Y/n curled up on the couch writing her essay.
Otto’s eyes flickered between his book and Y/n, more so on her than the book. He couldn’t help but smile at the crease between her brows, her tongue stuck out at her top lip, and the way she was scribbling down the words with no hesitation. She was so cute and pretty. Otto didn’t understand how James got her.
“Do I have something on my face?” Y/n asked. Otto’s cheeks become pink and he looks down shyly. “Just admiring you.”
She let out a breathy laugh. “What’s there to admire?”
“A lot. Your eyes, makeup, hair, lips.”
She raised her brows, shifting in her seat. She straightened out her legs, sitting upright against the cushions. She placed her notebook and quill in her lap, facing Otto.
“I thought you said we were just hanging out.”
“We are!” He smiled. “So, I can’t compliment my friend?”
She rolled her eyes. “You said you were admiring my lips, Otto. That’s not a friend-thing to say.”
He shrugged, “so I like to flirt. What’s wrong about that?”
“I’m with James, Otto.”
Otto sighed, getting up and sitting next to her. He leaned against the cushions, resting is elbow up on the ledge. “I know, but where is he? Oh, right, with Lily.”
Y/n frowned, “they’re friends. I can’t forbid them to be friends just because she’s a girl.”
“Yeah, a girl he liked.”
“Did you invite me here to piss me off?” Y/n scoffed. She stood up, grabbing her backpack and throwing it over her shoulder. “I’m leaving. It was nice seeing you again.”
Otto sighed, grabbing her wrist and pulling her back onto the couch. “I’m sorry. I just don’t understand how James would rather be with Lily than you.”
“He’s not with her like that,” she said. “I know, but still. You can’t help but wonder, right?” Otto hummed.
His hand let go of her wrist, his fingertips skimming up her arm. Goosebumps rose on her skin and her eyes flickered from his hand to his face. Her eyes were wide and her breathing became ragged.
“I-I don’t really think about them,” she replied. “That’s good, I suppose. Don’t want to get your heart broken, now do you?” Otto asked.
“I don’t,” she shook her head. Her stomach churned as she saw him move closer to her. Before she knew it, his lips were on hers. Her eyes widened and she felt vomit bubble in the back of her throat. She put her hands on his chest, shoving him away. “What the fuck, Otto?”
He grabbed both of her hands, his eyes wild and penetrating her soul. “C’mon, baby, you know you want me.”
Y/n grimaced, getting up and stepping away from the couch. “I don’t know what the hell you’re on, but you need to open your eyes and ears. I do not want you.”
“But what about the last time we hung out? You were practically begging for a second date.”
“Yeah, that as months ago. I don’t like you anymore.”
“Oh, and you like Potter?” Otto scoffed, getting up and towering over her. She tried to stand tall, holding her head up to show no fear, but one look in her eyes gave her away.
“Yes, I do. Why do you care?”
“Because he’s not right for you. He’s stupid, parties, plays pranks like he’s still 12. And he’s in love with Lily.”
“He’s not!” Y/n exclaimed, the bridge of her nose burning. Tears began to cloud her vision and she tried to blink them away, but they ended up spilling over and running down her cheeks.
“I know it may be hard to hear, but it’s the truth. But you know who does love you? Me.” Otto reached out for her hand, but she stepped back.
“Do not touch me, Otto,” Y/n warned. “Or what? You’re gonna call your big bad boyfriend?” He taunted.
“No, I’m going to throw you out of the window.” It was an empty threat, but she hoped it would work. Unfortunately, it didn’t.
Otto gave her a little smirk, walking forward and caging her in between the wall and him. “I’d like to see you try, darling.” He put his hands on her waist, pulling her flush against him. She punched his chest, trying to get free, but they were in a more secluded part of the library, and she didn’t want to cause a scene.
“I could treat you so much better, Y/n.” Otto’s lips met hers again and she practically threw up in her mouth.
“Y/n?” A voice behind Otto sounded.
Otto pulled away, glaring at the person. Y/n sighed in relief, never have been so happy to see Remus.
“Remus!” Y/n smiled. “Are you cheating on James?” Remus scoffed.
Her eyes widened and she shook her head furiously. “N-No, I would never!”
Remus rolled his eyes, not believing her. “I knew it. I knew you were no good! You two-faced, backstabbing liar!”
“Remus, please!” Y/n begged. “It’s not what it looks like. I need h—”
“Go away, Lupin. I’m in the middle of something here,” Otto spat.
“Fine by me,” Remus shrugged. He was about to stomp off when he took another look at Y/n. He didn’t know how he didn’t see it before, but she looked terrified. Tears were running down her face and her hands were balled into fists and up against Otto’s chest. His hands that were on her hips were gripping her tightly, his knuckles turning white. She was mouthing “help me”, hoping that Remus would do something. Luckily for her, he realized just in time.
“Actually, I think I’ll stay,” Remus said. Otto frowned, “please. We’re trying to continue.”
“There is nothing to continue!” Y/n exclaimed. “Shut your trap,” Otto’s head whipped to her. “You’re going to regret ever —”
Remus grabbed the collar of Otto’s sweater, pulling him away from Y/n, allowing her to become free of him.
“Did you hear the lady? She said there is nothing to continue.” And with that, Remus punched Otto in the nose.
Y/n gasped, her two hands flying to her mouth as her jaw dropped. Otto stumbled back into the table, wiping the blood off of his nose. He smiled sinisterly at Remus.
“You’re gonna regret that, Lupin.”
“Petrificus Totalus!” Y/n waved her wand, causing Otto to freeze halfway into punching Remus. Y/n walked over to Remus, both of them beginning to laugh at Otto’s unwavering scowl.
“What is going on here!” The librarian shouted. She walked over to the three, gasping at the sight. “You two!” She pointed to Remus and Y/n, “detention now! And fifteen points from both of your houses!”
“She was being attacked! I helped her!” Remus explained.
“And while I’m sure your efforts were much appreciated, but you are being disruptive and not following library rules. Go to Professor McGonagall right now!”
The pair hurriedly grabbed their things, practically running out of the library. They went to Professor McGonagall, whom excused them for their disruption, but still kept the 15 points. She then sent them to the infirmary after seeing Remus’s red and inflamed hand.
“Your hand okay?” Y/n asked. “Yeah,” he nodded. “It’s not like it’s broken or anything. Just a little sore.”
“That’s good,” she said. Her eyes wandered over his face shyly, then focusing back on her lap. “Remus,” she started.
“Yeah?” Remus raised his brows, turning his body to her. Y/n let out a sigh, facing him as well. “I want to say thank you for helping me out. I… I don’t really know what I could’ve done. I was just so shocked and scared, I wasn’t thinking straight and I realize I could’ve just pulled out my wand beforehand, but —”
“Don’t apologize.” Remus put his free hand on hers. “It was a stressful situation. Don’t blame yourself for what is his fault.”
Y/n smiled, “thank you. I appreciate it.” Remus gave her a small smile. “No problem. I’m happy to help. You are my friend’s girlfriend, after all.”
“True,” Y/n chuckled.
Remus’s hand fell from hers and his lips curled up into a smirk. “Or should I say fake girlfriend?”

The next two weeks everyone thought Y/n and James had broken up. So did James.
Y/n avoided James every chance she got. She pretended not to hear him calling after her. She ate breakfast in her common room, and made Pandora and Alice swear to not interact with him or Lily.
Y/n felt so bad, honestly. Every time she saw James, her body would try to walk towards him. She dreamt of him each night, waking up lonely and in need. She often smelled his cologne at random times during the day and could almost feel his kiss on her lips. She wanted to talk to him so bad, hug him, kiss him, just hang out with him, but she was scared she would dig a bigger hole for her heart. James was still in love with Lily and Y/n was falling for him. It wasn’t a good situation for either of them.
“Are you going to break up with him or keep this going?” Alice asked.
“I don’t know, Al. I’m trying to do my homework,” Y/n mumbled.
“Look, I know you’re scared of commitment or whatever, but James doesn’t deserve this. He’s actually a really good guy. If you don’t want to be with him anymore, then just tell him,” Alice said.
Y/n rested her forehead on her palm. And the situation just got even more complicated.
Alice and Pandora didn’t know about their fake relationship. Y/n couldn’t just explain to them now. It would risk Y/n looking like a fool and her losing her best friends. She wished that she could tell her friends all her problems.
“Well, he seems to be fine. He’s always with Lily,” Y/n said, her words full of malice.
“Another reason why to tell him it’s over!” Alice exclaimed. “He’s always liked her. More than me,” Y/n said.
“Y/n, that’s not true.”
“Do you see the way he looks at her?” Y/n scoffed. “Yes, but I also see the way he looks at you,” Alice said.
Y/n shook her head. “Don’t fill my head with false hope.”
“I wouldn’t have to if you would open your eyes!”
“Well, lucky for you, I’m happy with being ignorant.” Y/n packed up her things, slinging her bag over her shoulder and walking out of the library.
She walked past James and his friends, keeping her head down and eyes glued to the floor.
“Are you two still dating?” Sirius questioned. James sighed, smooshing his cheek against his palm. “I have no idea. She won’t talk to me. I’m pretty sure she ripped up the letter I sent her.”
“I told you it was a bad idea, James,” Remus sighed. “Shut up! I-I thought it was a good idea,” James frowned.
“And where did that get you? Look at you now. You have a fake girlfriend who is probably leading you on, which is very sad. And you have Lily, who… do you even like Lily anymore?” Remus asked.
“N-No? Yes? I-I don’t know,” James groaned. He rubbed his face roughly, putting his head on the desk. “This is so complicated.”
“Most women are,” Sirius stated. “But… Y/n isn’t complicated. This wasn’t supposed to be complicated. Y/n was supposed to get the guy she liked and I was supposed to get the girl I like. Where did we go wrong?” James asked rhetorically.
“Mm, well, maybe we can start with the whole plan. Or maybe that you bought Y/n lots of money’s worth of gifts. Or maybe you kept going out with Lily and spending more time with her at that one point. Or, hm, maybe when you and Y/n had a make-out session by the lake and almost had sex?” Remus listed.
“Piss off!” James exclaimed. “I didn’t ask for this okay?”
“We know, we know. Moons is just being an ass,” Sirius glared at him.
“It’s the truth!” Remus laughed. “Truth hurts, Prongs.”
“Yeah, I guess,” James mumbled.
“I think Y/n just needs to make up her mind,” Sirius stated. “You do, too.”
“I already have,” James said. “You sure, mate? You seem pretty undecided,” Sirius hummed.
James sighed helplessly. “I just… I feel bad about Lily. I’ve liked her for so long and this whole plan was for me to be able to date her, and know I’m throwing her away for someone else? What if Lily likes me, too?”
“What about me?” Lily hummed behind James.
James looked at his friends who were smiling like idiots. He glared at them, slowly turning around with pink ears. “H-Hey, Lils.”
“Why were you talking about me?” Lily asked.
“Um, just… you know, homework,” James stammered.
Lily raised her brows, her eyes flickering between James and his two friends. “You sure?”
“Yep,” James nodded quickly. “What do you need?”
“Oh, well, I wanted to ask if you wanted to hang out tonight,” Lily said.
“Oh, um…” James bit his lip in thought, looking down at his lap. “I’m not sure if I can —”
“Oh, do you have plans with Y/n? I’m so sorry, I should have asked that!” Lily apologized.
James shook his head, eyes widening. “No, no! Trust me, I don’t have plans with Y/n. I’m not even sure we are dating anymore.”
Lily frowned, “oh, I’m sorry, Jamie. I know how much you liked her.”
James cringed at his little nickname. Ever since Y/n had said it, he didn’t want anyone else saying it but her. It was so strange. He used to love hearing Lily saying his nickname. He used to love Lily asking him to hang out. But for the last month, his feelings towards Lily had changed gradually. He didn’t understand why. She was his dream girl. Or so he thought.
“It’s alright, it’s not your fault. But, I am free tonight, so yeah, we can hang out,” James nodded. Although he didn’t the butterflies he used to, he still enjoyed her company. Lily was a great friend.
“You sure?” Lily questioned. “Yeah, yeah. When and where?” James asked.
“Common room after classes? We can just watch a movie,” Lily explained.
James gave her a small smile. “Sounds good.”
“Alright. See you later, Jamie,” Lily grinned, spinning around on her heel and walking away.
James didn’t linger on her retreating figure. He turned back to his friends, rolling his eyes at their disapproving expressions.
“Seriously, Jamie?” Sirius scoffed. “What? I enjoy her company!” James exclaimed.
“You realize guys and girls don’t just “hang out” and “watch a movie”, right?” Sirius raised his brows.
James rolled his eyes once again, slouching in his seat. “Some actually do, Sirius. Not everyone is a horn-dog like you.”
“Well, sorry that I get pussy,” Sirius shrugged. James looked at his watch, closing his textbooks and packing up. “I gotta go to class. I’ll see you guys later.”
“I thought we were gonna skip,” Sirius frowned. “Sirius, let him be a good student for once,” Remus said.
“Well, I’m not going just because of that. Y/n’s in my class. I was thinking I could try talking to her,” James explained.
“Ah,” Sirius nodded. “Good luck, mate. Make sure to tell her how you and Lily have a date tonight!”
“Sod off!” James gave Sirius the middle finger as he walked away. Sirius grinned, returning the gesture as James turned the corner.
“He’s going to get himself into trouble,” Remus mumbled. “Maybe he is, but he’ll figure it out,” Sirius shrugged.
“Maybe it would be easier if Y/n wasn’t so two-faced,” Remus remarked.
Sirius’s brows raised. “Since when did you not like Y/n?”
“Since when did I like her? She made up this horrible plan that, of course, has failed. She’s using James.”
“Yeah, but he’s using her, too. I mean, I’d say he’s using her more than she’s using him. I don’t think she likes the guy she was after anymore.”
“Oh, well that’s fantastic,” Remus rolled his eyes.
“I thought you were rooting for them. Don’t you see the way she looks at him?”
“Yes, I do. I was the first one to point it out, but now I’m not so sure.” Remus began to bite his nails anxiously. “Just because she looks at him a certain way doesn’t necessarily mean she’s in love with him. She could just love him as a friend.”
“I think it’s deeper than that, Moons.” Sirius put his hands on Remus’s wrists, bringing them down onto the table. “James will be okay. I know he’s not the smartest cookie in the jar, but he’s not dumb. He’s just clueless. Just give James some time, yeah?”
Remus nodded, “yeah, okay. But what if this all backfires and James loses Lily and Y/n?”
Sirius sighed, sitting back in his chair. “Well, that’s up to James. He can have both in his life, it’s just a matter of how he wants them.”
Remus raised a brow, narrowing his eyes at the shaggy haired boy. “Since when did you get so… sensible?”
“I’ve been this way all along, what are you talking about?” Sirius grinned.
————
James stared at Y/n from across the room. He hadn’t taken his eyes off her for five minutes. She could feel his stare burning holes into the side of her head. If they were alone, she would throw her book at him, but they were sounded by 15 other students and a professor. She didn’t want detention again, especially with him.
Class came to an end. Y/n hastily packed up her work, avoiding eye contact with James as she left the classroom. She thought she had successfully lost him, but a hand on her wrist told her otherwise.
“James, go away,” Y/n spat. She turned around, shocked to see it was not James. It was Otto. “O-Oh. I’m sorry,” she laughed awkwardly.
“No problem. I figured you would think I’m James,” he chuckled. He let go of her wrist now that he had her attention. He ran his fingers through his blonde hair, his green eyes staring straight at hers.
She shifted uncomfortably, clasping her hands in front of her. “So, what’s up? Do you need the notes or something?”
Otto chuckled, “I actually do pay attention in class, you know.”
“Oh, I know. But last time we talked, you asked me for my notes. Just making sure.”
“You remember that?” He raised his brows. “Well, yeah. After I gave you the notes then you asked me out. How could I forget?” She smiled.
“I see. Well, speaking of asking you out, I was wondering if —”
“Oh, Otto,” she shook her head. “I-I can’t. You know I’m with James, right?”
“Oh, you still are?” Otto hummed. She narrowed her eyes at him, crossing her arms around her middle. “What do you mean still are?”
“I just mean that it doesn’t seem like you two are together anymore. You both haven’t spoken to each other in weeks, at least not in public. Everyone thinks you both have broken up. Especially since James is hanging out with Lily this afternoon.”
Y/n’s heart sunk to the bottom of her stomach. A wave of nausea washed over her. She knew her friends were asking her questions about her relationship, but she didn’t think that everyone wondered, too. She never thought about how public her relationship was with James. They never did much but hold hands, but eyes were on them all the time. They had to be that way so the plan would work, anyways.
“But if you say you two are still together, then you two are still together. Who are we to listen to the rumors?” Otto asked.
Y/n nodded, “right. Yeah, well, we are still together. We are just… we’ve hit a rough patch. And Lily and James are just friends.”
Otto nodded, “of course they are.”
The pair stood in the hallway awkwardly for a few moments. Y/n let out a sigh, painting on a smile. “Well, I should get going. I’m super hungry, and you know how boys can be at dinner.”
Otto chuckled, “true. But I’d still like to ask you to hang out.”
“I don’t know, Otto,” she sighed. “No funny business, promise. We can go to a public space, too. Like the library? Or we can go to your house’s common room. Whichever you prefer. I just… miss you and your company,” he explained.
She sucked on her bottom lip, debating whether to say yes or not. She hadn’t hung out with Otto in almost four months. The last time they hung out, they had kissed and there was a possibility of them becoming a couple. Y/n did enjoy his company, but she was worried that them hanging out would turn out to be something more. But she realized that the only way that would happen is if she let it. If James could hang out with Lily, then why couldn’t she hang out with Otto. James liked Lily, after all, he was in love with her. Y/n had no romantic feelings for Otto, so it was harmless.
“Alright, sure,” she nodded. “We can hang out in the library. Do you mind if I finish up a paper?”
“Not at all,” he grinned. “See you later, then?”
She smiled, “yep.”
He lingered in his spot before turning around to walk away. Y/n let out a breath before continuing walking. By the wall, across from where they were standing, was James. His face was scrunched up in anger, his hands balled in fists.
“Fine. Two can play at that game,” James muttered. He spun on his heel, stomping away to find Lily. His heart broke with every step he took. Remus was right. She was a horrible person and she was only using him. This was her plan all along: make James fall in love with him so then she can break his heart and save hers for Otto. Luckily for James, he had another girl waiting for him.

The moon shone down on the couple, the stars twinkling in the sky. The moonlight lit up the side of Y/n’s face, making her eyes sparkle. James admired her figure as she looked at the lake. He couldn’t wipe the grin off of his face. She looked so beautiful.
“I’m surprised you told the truth,” she remarked. James scoffed, feigning hurt. “Are you saying I’m a liar?”
She giggled, picking up a grape and popping it into her mouth. “You’re a teenage boy.”
“And that automatically makes me a liar?”
She shrugged, “you tell me.”
“Well, Alice insisted I tell the truth. Lily suggested that I lie. She wanted me to show that I care and I put in effort into this. I appreciate the thought behind her suggestion, but Alice is right. I did next to nothing,” he admitted.
“Yeah, Alice can be quite convincing,” Y/n chuckled. “But I’m happy you told the truth. It makes me trust you more.” She nudged his shoulder with hers.
James’s cheeks dusted with pink. He was thankful the moonlight was mostly on her tonight. “I don’t want to be known as untruthful.”
She nodded, “I know. That’s one of the things I like about you so much.”
James’s jaw dropped, causing Y/n to be confused. “What? Did you see your Bogart or something?”
“I think so. Did you just admit that you like me?”
Y/n rolled her eyes, punching his shoulder roughly. “Shut up.”
James chortled, “I wanna hear it again.” “Piss off,” she mumbled.
“C’mon, you already said it once. What’s the harm in saying it again?”
“It’ll just make your big head bigger. Plus, I didn’t say I like you. I said I liked one of your qualities.”
“Same difference.”
She groaned, “you are so annoying. I don’t know how Lily stands you.”
“I guess you both have a type then: annoying and hot boys.”
“More like annoying and egotistical.”
“Being confident isn’t bad.”
“You’re cocky, not confident.”
“Well, I can’t be that bad. Otherwise you wouldn’t still be here.”
“I suppose,” Y/n sighed. “And speaking of still being here, why are you?” James asked.
“You don’t like me being your fake girlfriend?” She raised her brow. “No! Not at all!” He exclaimed. “I just… you don’t like Otto anymore, and that was the whole reason why you suggested we fake date. What’s your goal now.”
Y/n looked away from him, biting the inside of her cheek in thought. She hadn’t even thought about her reason for being in the relationship since they made it official. He was correct, she barely had a reason anymore. Otto was long gone from her mind and had been for quite some time. The only reason to stay was for James so he could be with Lily. Was that enough?
“I guess I don’t have a goal,” she mumbled. “You’re only staying to help me then?” James asked.
“Seems like it,” she nodded. “Well… that’s hardly fair,” he frowned.
“Ah, it’s okay. I enjoy helping people.”
“Yeah, but you’re supposed to get something out of this, too.”
“This could be a test run for my first relationship.”
“Oh, I’m your first boyfriend?” James’s eyes widened.
“Technically, yes. But you’re not my first kiss.”
“Mm, I see,” he nodded. “I assume I’m your first girlfriend?” She questioned.
“Yep. You’re not my first kiss, either. And you wouldn’t be my first anything else.”
“Great to know,” she remarked sarcastically. “What about you? Have you had sex yet?” James asked.
Y/n grimaced, “why do you need to know that?”
“Just a question,” he shrugged. “Yeah, well, some people aren’t comfortable sharing,” she mumbled.
“You’re a virgin?” His eyes widened. “And so what if I am?” She snapped, her head wiping around to face him. A scowl was fixed on her features.
“I-I didn’t mean that in a bad way. I’m just surprised, I guess.”
“Why? I don’t really look like fucking material,” she snorted.
“Well, you’re really pretty and funny. You’re a little bit of a stick in the mud and you complain a lot, but I like that about you. You smell really good all the time, too. You don’t overdo it on the perfume, which is nice.”
Y/n face became piping hot and she ducked her head down, pulling her legs up to her chest and resting her cheek against her knees. “Thanks, James.”
James frowned at her actions, sitting up on his knees and facing her. “Did I say something wrong? You look… mad.”
She let out a little laugh, lifting her head up. “I’m not mad. I’m a little flustered, honestly. Believe it or not, I don’t get told that stuff very much.”
His eyes softened and he reached out his hand, placing it on her forearm. “It’s all true, Y/n. Whomever you date or marry in the future will see that, too. You’re a great girl.”
She doesn’t fight the grin that lights up her face. She brings her legs down in criss-cross position, causing James’s hand to fall to her knee.
“Thank you, James. It means a lot. Really.”
He squeezed her knee comfortingly. “You’re welcome.”
“Lily will be very lucky to have you,” she stated. “You think so?” James asked, his voice light with nope.
“Yeah,” Y/n nodded. “You’re not the most put-together and get detention every week,” she grinned. He chuckled softly, nodding in admittance.
“But,” she continued, “you’re very loving and caring. I can tell how much you value friendship and family. You’re always joking, but you also know how to be sensitive and serious when the time calls for it. You smell good, too. You shower snd don’t smell like you bathed in a pool of body spray.”
“I value my appearance unlike some guys,” he smiled.
“And it shows. You’re very handsome,” she added. “Thank you. I know,” he smirked.
She rolled her eyes. “And you’ve ruined the moment.” She tore her eyes away from his joyful face, looking up at the sky and admiring the stars.
“That’s my job,” he joked. He moved back next to her, keeping his hand on her knee. Her lips twitched upwards as her eyes flickered down to his hand. She quickly looked back up at the sky, trying to ignore how hard her heart was pounding against her chest.
“Did you get enough to eat?” James asked. “I did, thank you,” Y/n nodded.
The two sat in silence for a few moments until James spoke up again.
“Oh, I almost forgot to give you something!” James gasped.
Y/n raised her brows, watching James as he scrambled up on his feet and walked to the tree next to them. He went behind it, grabbing a small gift bag he had hidden behind the tree.
“Oh, you got me a gift?” Y/n asked. James nodded, “although I didn’t plan the date, I did get you something. Hopefully, I get points for that.”
“I didn’t get you anything,” Y/n smacked her forehead. “I-I didn’t know we were doing gifts. I’m so stupid, I should’ve known. I’m sorry. I’ll buy you something tomorrow.”
“It’s okay, Y/n. I don’t need anything,” he assured her. Y/n nodded, making a mental note to get him a gift anyways. He sat back down in front of her, handing her the gift with shaky hands.
“I-I hope you like it. I realized I have no idea what music you like, but I asked Pandora. I hope she was right.”
Y/n took out the pink tissue paper, eyes lighting up as she saw three cassette tapes of her favorite bands. “Oh my! James!” She grinned.
“Do you like those bands?”
“Yes, yes!” She nodded enthusiastically. She carefully took the tapes out, her smile getting impossibly wider as she saw Queen’s “A Night At The Opera”, the Beatles’ “Abbey Road”, and Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours”.
She sprung up from her seat, wrapping her arms around James’s shoulders. He hesitantly wrapped his arms around her middle, standing up on his knees. He pulled her close to his chest as she buried her face into his neck, becoming immersed in his scent. Y/n sighed contently, closing her eyes as she relaxed against his warmth. Her hands played with the strands of hair at the nape of his neck as they stayed hugging for a long while.
“I got you a second gift, too,” he said. “Oh, I’m so spoiled,” she giggled.
James laughed with her as he pulled away, pulling out a gold necklace. “I know you already have the necklace from the scavenger hunt, but that was technically given to you by your friends. I thought that you should have a necklace given by me.”
“Oh, it’s so pretty. Is this my birthstone?” Y/n asked as she examined the necklace.
“Yes,” he nodded. “I also asked Pandora when your birthday was.”
“You’re so sweet. Thank you, Jamie.”
His heart stopped in his chest. Butterflies fluttered in his chest and he felt weak. “You-You’re welcome.”
Y/n took his from his hands, clasping it around her neck. She held it close to her chest, smiling at James. “It’s so pretty.”
“It is,” he nodded, looking straight into her eyes.
A moment of silence fell between them. The air was thick and warm. Y/n scanned over his face, her eyes falling to his lips. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her flush against him. Her breath hitched as she could suddenly feel his breath on her lips.
“James?” Y/n’s voice came out below a whisper.
“Yes, darling?” He hummed, his arms tightening around her body.
Her eyes searched his, seeing them flicker between her eyes to her lips. His muscles were tense, as if he was holding back. He just needed the okay to move forward.
“Kiss me,” she breathed out.
He moved in quickly, crashing his lips onto hers. Her eyes fluttered close and she buried her hands into his raven curls. Their lips moved together in sync, fitting perfectly together like puzzle pieces.
The kiss started slow. They were feeling each other out as it had only been the second time they kissed since their first date. After a few moments, the kiss became faster and deeper. Y/n leaned into him, opening her mouth to let his tongue slip inside. She tasted him, running her tongue alongside his.
James gripped her hips, laying her down gently. She obliged, sitting down on her backside before laying down on the picnic blanket. James settled in between her legs, one of his hands cupping her cheek while the other stayed holding her. His hand found the hem of her sweater, his fingertips skimming the small amount of open skin. Goosebumps rose on her body and she shivered at his touch, a fire of need lighting up inside of her.
She began to tug his hair roughly, arching her back and pushing her chest up to meet his. Her kisses turned sloppy and needy, the wet sounds of her lips meeting his filling the quiet forest.
James’s heart pounded against his chest as he felt the new meaning behind her movements. For a girl that barely had any experience, she sure knew how to lead.
Her hands dropped down to his shirt, unbuttoning hastily. She took a shallow breath of air. “This okay?”
“Yeah,” he nodded. He began to kiss down her neck, his teeth gently nibbling at her soft skin. She let out soft moans as his lips sucked on her sweet spot at the junction of her neck. She sounded so pretty, like music to his ears. He was determined to make her say his name in that exact tone.
His hands shakily glided up her stomach, finding her hips and molding with her curves. As soon as she was done unbuttoning his shirt, she ran her hands down his chest, pleasantly surprised to find a toned set of abs carved into his smooth skin. He shivered as her nails traced his abs. He lifted his head from her neck, his heart fluttering at the smirk on her face.
“You’re so pretty,” Y/n stated as she admired his face. She brushed a few curls out of his eyes, smiling up at him with a sparkle in her eyes.
“You’re the pretty one,” he mumbled. He brings one hand up to cup her jaw. His thumb glided across her cheekbone and she nuzzled into his touch, looking up at him through her lashes.
“You’re a great kisser, too,” James remarked. She giggled, “so are you.”
“Well, I’ve had my practice,” he smirked. “Mm, I’m sure you have,” she nodded.
“Shall we continue this inside and on a bed? Preferably not near centaurs?” James suggested.
Y/n then was brought back to reality. They weren’t really dating. They couldn’t just make out whenever. She wasn’t ready to continue whatever that was going to turn in to. James liked Lily, not her.
Y/n’s heart sunk at the last fact. She wiggled out from under him, shoving her sweater down and packing up the food.
“Y/n? What’s wrong?” James frowned. He didn’t bother to button up his shirt, standing up and hurrying over to her. He grabbed her wrists, making her halt her movements and look at him.
“Let go of me, James,” she glared. “Wait, I-I don’t understand. What’s wrong? A second ago we were having a great time and now you’re running away,” he frowned.
“That’s just the thing, James,” Y/n sighed. “What, we aren’t allowed to have a great time?” James asked.
“No! We were kissing. You were on top of me and I basically took off your shirt. You bought me two gifts and… and we’re on a date.”
“So? We’re dating,” he said. “Fake dating, James,” she reminded.
“I— Yeah, that’s what I meant,” he said, his face turning red.
“Yeah, I’m sure,” Y/n muttered. She threw the containers into the picnic basket, messily folding the blanket. She carefully put the cassettes back into the gift bag, standing up with her hands full. “This was nice. I had a fun time. I’ll see you tomorrow, yeah?” She wasted no time in walking away. James sighed helplessly, running after her.
“Let me at least help,” he grabbed the picnic basket, but Y/n moved away.
“I got it. It’s Alice’s basket anyways. Just go and hang out with your friends, or Lily.”
James pouted, “but I don’t want to hang out with Lily.”
“Well, I’m tired. So, I’m going straight to bed. I suggest you do the same. Goodnight, James.” Y/n sped away, leaving James almost heartbroken.
Y/n hurried to her house, dropping everything as soon as she entered the dorm room.
“Hey! How was the — woah, what’s wrong?” Pandora asked.
“Nothing. I need to use the bathroom.” Y/n ducked her head as she walked past her two friends. She shut the door, locking it and sat on the toilet. She held her head in her hands as she began to sob. If she wasn’t mistaken, she was beginning to fall for James, and James for her too. She knew she would have to break whatever she and James had, otherwise they both would get hurt.

“Happy one year anniversary, darling.”
Y/n smiles at James, cupping his face and leaning up to kiss him. “Thank you, Jamie.”
“Did you get my gift?”
“I did! It’s on my neck, see?” She pulls the necklace out from under her turtle neck. James had gotten her a locket with a picture of the two inside. On the front of the locket both of their initials were engraved, making it even more special. “I love it. Reminds me of our first date.”
“Good. That was my angle,” he smiles. He wraps her arm around his waist, kissing her again. “I love you, Y/n.”
“I love you, too, Jamie. Mmm, I love you, Jamie. Mm, Jamie…”
Y/n tossed and turned in her bed, hugging her pillow and acting as if it was somebody. She slowly opened her eyes, getting slightly blinded by the sun peeking out of the windows. She closed her eyes again, flipping onto her stomach and going back to sleep. As James’s face entered her mind, she sat up, eyes shooting open.
She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes, looking around the room and finding it empty. She looked at her clock, jumping out of bed as she had accidentally slept in.
“Shit, shit, shit,” she muttered. She grabbed a towel and the sweater she was wearing yesterday and a new skirt, and ran to the bathroom. She quickly showered, barely spending anytime on makeup and hair as she got ready.
She practically almost fell down the stairs as she was trying to make it to class. As she took a sharp turn on the last stairs she ran into someone.
“Oh, I’m so sorry! I’m a little bit of a — oh, James?” She gasped once she laid eyes on the figure.
James gave her a toothy smile. “Hey, Y/n.”
“What are you doing here?” She asked. Her voice had a little bit of an edge to it, as if she didn’t want him there. He didn’t fail to notice and his smile down turned into a frown.
“Well, you weren’t at breakfast this morning, so I was worried about you. But Pandora said that you slept in, so I thought I’d see if you were up yet,” he explained.
“Pandora didn’t wake me up?” She scoffed. “She said you never sleep in unless you’re exhausted, so she wanted you to get plenty of rest,” he said.
“Oh,” you sighed. “That’s… that’s nice of her. And… it’s nice of you to come and check on me.”
“You think so? You seem a little mad,” he said.
“Yeah,” she nodded. “I’m just never late to class and you know me, I don’t like being late or having detention.”
“Don’t worry, your teachers love you. They won’t give you detention.”
Y/n smiled a little. “Thanks, James.”
He smiled at her again, holding out a plate of breakfast. “This is for you.”
“Thank you, James. I’m starving.” She hadn’t even realized she was hungry until she smelled the toast and eggs. “You didn’t have to get me this, though. I would’ve eaten something soon.”
“Well, it’s my job as your boyfriend to do this stuff, right?” He smirked.
Y/n’s face fell again and she suddenly felt sick. It was that overwhelming sense of panic she had felt the last few times her and James were together. And the fact that he was in her dreams didn’t make it any better, either. Him telling her that he loved her rang through her ears like a song. She couldn’t shake it.
“Are you sure you’re okay? Maybe you should take the day off. I can tell your friends to get your homework for you after class.”
“No, no,” she shook her head. “I… I think I’m just hungry.”
He nodded, handing her the plate. “Do you want to eat here? I can keep you company.”
“Yeah, sure,” she nodded.
The two walked to the couch in the common room. They sat down across from the each other. The tension in the air was thick. The pair didn’t talk for a good ten minutes.
“How did you sleep?” James asked. “Um… good,” she said.
“You sure? You don’t sound convinced,” he chuckled.
“I just had a weird dream,” she shrugged. “What was it? Did robots and aliens abduct you or something?” He smiled.
Y/n couldn’t help but smile. “No, sadly. It was a lot weirder than that.”
“You want to tell me or keep it a secret?”
“I’ll keep it a secret.”
“That’s no fun!” He frowned. “You shouldn’t be lying to your boyfriend, you know.”
Y/n snorted, “yeah, my fake boyfriend.”
He shrugged, “thought I’d give that a try.”
“Speaking of dating, it’s our three months anniversary tomorrow,” Y/n said.
“You keep track of that?” James raised his brows. “You don’t?” She scoffed.
He grinned, “I do, I do. I’m just surprised you do. You always seem so preoccupied with other things. Plus, you’re always reminding me of how this is a fake relationship.”
“Well, it is, is it not? You’re always hanging out with Lily, anyways,” she said. “I am not,” he denied.
Y/n laughed so hard she choked on her eggs. “Please, James. You spend like, every night with her.”
“Yeah, well, it’s not like it’s gonna go anywhere?”
“Why do you think that?”
“Because Lily knows we are together, and she’s not a home wrecker. She actually talks about how cute we are all the time. She says we are goals and how she wants a relationship like ours.”
Y/n’s face became warm. “S-She likes us together?”
“Yep. Always saying how great we look, how we compliment each other. And it’s like, yeah, I agree, but at the same time I like her. Not you. Not in that way, anyways. No offense.”
Y/n nodded, “no, yeah, makes sense. It’s a shame, then. Us being together.”
“Kind of, but I wouldn’t still be here if I didn’t want to.”
Something about his words made both of their hearts flutter. James lowered his gaze, focusing on his hands in his lap. Y/n ate quickly, putting the plate on the coffee table in front of her.
“Thanks for breakfast. I should go,” she said.
“Yeah, of course,” he nodded. “I’ll see you later, yeah?”
“You’re not gonna walk me to class?” She smiled. He chuckled, “oh, right. Sorry.”
“Gotta keep up appearances, baby.”
“Oh, of course, darling.”
————
“Hey, Jamie!” Lily called out.
James’s ears turned pink at the nickname. He turned around immediately, giving her a big grin.
“Hey, Lils! What’s up?” James asked. “Where were you this morning? I didn’t see you in Potions,” Lily asked.
“Ah, I was with Y/n,” he answered. Lily wiggled her brows with a smirk. “Oh?”
“N-Not like that,” he stammered. “She was having a bad morning, is all. I brought her breakfast and cheered her up. At least, I think I did.”
“Oh, I bet you did. Speaking of you and Y/n, it’s your three month anniversary today, right?” Lily asked.
James nodded, “does everyone know that?” Lily grinned, “most people. Anyways, I wanted to ask you if I could help.”
“Help with what?” James asked. Lily gasped, “you haven’t planned anything?”
“N-No,” James shook his head. “Was I supposed to?”
Lily groaned, “you are so clueless! Yes, you were supposed to.” “Well, I’ve never been in a serious relationship before! I-I just thought she would know I like her. I tell her like, all the time,” James said.
“Actions speak louder than words, Jamie. Here, why don’t I plan with Alice and Pandora, and we’ll come back to you and see how you like it.”
“I… It’s alright, Lily. I’ll figure something out.”
“No offense, James, but you need a little help.”
“Y/n will know I didn’t plan it, though.”
“Not if you don’t tell her,” Lily stated.
James hummed in thought. She was right, he did need help. He had no idea what to do in relationships, even the fake one he was in. He wanted it to seem as realistic as possible, but not only that, Y/n deserved something nice. She had been putting up with him for the last three months and she wasn’t going to go away anytime soon — hopefully. Even if the anniversary date was planned by other people, James would still have the last say in everything and it’s the thought that counts.
“Okay,” James nodded. Lily squealed in excitement, making James smile.
“Brilliant! I’ll see you later today in the common room. Tell Y/n to clear her schedule for seven.”
“I will,” he said.
Lily gave him a big grin, patting his arm before turning around.
“Wait, Lils!” He called. She turned back around. “Yes?”
“Thank you. It means a lot,” he said.
She smiled, “of course. It’s my pleasure.”
James watched her retreating figure, admiring the way her hair bounced with each step and how her hips swayed from side to side. He spun on his heel with a silly grin on his face, walking with pep in his step to his next class.
He was thankful for Lily and her willingness to help him. He didn’t know the reason, but he didn’t feel the need to try and find out. Not only would her efforts keep up appearances, but it gave James a chance to spend more time with Lily, to get to know her more. He hoped that in time, Lily would become jealous of his and Y/n’s relationship and fall in love with him. And then he could pursue the relationship he’s always wanted with her, and Y/n could be in the relationship with whomever else she wanted to be with.
The plan was going accordingly.
————
“Do you really think she’s trying to help or is she trying to get into James’s pants?” Alice asked. Her eyes flickered over to Lily who was behind them, anxiously awaiting their answer.
“She seems genuine,” Pandora stated. “Yeah, seems,” Alice muttered, focusing back onto her friend.
“I think she has good intentions. I don’t think she likes James. Not like that,” Pandora said. She peered behind her shoulder to look at the redhead. Pandora could tell she had no malice in her eyes, no bad intentions in her plans for James and Y/n. But Alice wasn’t that trusting.
“But what is she does? I don’t want that bitch ruining James and Y/n’s relationship. I don’t want to see Y/n get hurt.”
Pandora sighed, agreeing with Alice. “Neither do I, but let’s give Lily the benefit of the doubt, yeah?” She put her hand on Alice’s shoulder and have her a comforting squeeze. “If James really does like Y/n, then he won’t let anything happen between him and Lily.”
Alice nodded, “he does really seem to like her.” Pandora grinned, “I know. It’s adorable.”
Alice couldn’t help but smile back. “Alright. It’s decided then.” Alice and Pandora turned back to Lily.
“What do you have in mind?” Alice asked, slowly walking over to Lily.
“A candlelit dinner,” Lily stated. “Boring,” Alice rolled her eyes.
“It’s romantic,” Lily frowned. “Yeah, for you and every senior citizen out there. Y/n doesn’t like mundane,” Alice said.
“Fine, what do you think she will like then?” Lily asked.
“I don’t know, but not that.”
“You’re no help.”
“As if you are?”
“Ladies, ladies,” Pandora raised her arms up between them. “Let’s remember who this is for: Y/n and James. Let’s find something that they both like, okay?” Pandora turned to Lily, giving her a friendly smile. “I don’t know much about James, but I have a feeling he likes a little fun, yes?”
Lily nodded, “I suppose so.” “Great! So does Y/n. Now, for their first date we planned a scavenger hunt. Maybe we could do something similar?” Pandora suggested.
“You guys planned a scavenger hunt?” Lily raised her brows. “Yes, and it was amazing. The two had their first kiss,” Alice stated.
“I-I’m sure it was nothing less of great,” Lily let out a breathy laugh. “Does Y/n like the outdoors?”
“Depends on the weather.”
“Well, maybe they can have an outdoor date then? Maybe a picnic and —
“What is with you and sitting down and eating food?” Alice groaned.
“Hey, I’m the only one actually coming up with ideas! All you are doing is complaining!” Lily exclaimed.
“Yeah, because your ideas suck,” Alice spat. Lily scoffed, crossing her arms against her chest. “You know, I thought I would ask you to help because your Y/n’s best friend, but I guess I’ll just do it myself.”
“Lily, no,” Pandora said, grabbing her wrist while she tries to walk away. “Alice is just protective over Y/n. You can understand, right?”
Lily sighed, whipping back around to face the two. “You don’t have to be so rude about it.”
“I’m… sorry,” Alice sighed. “I like your picnic idea. It’s cute.”
Lily’s face lights up with a small smile. “Thank you.”
“We’ll go with that idea, I suppose,” Alice said. “Great! What kind of food does Y/n like?” Lily asked.
“She likes everything,” Pandora answered. “Are we going to make them food or buy it?”
“Let’s buy it. It’ll take so long to make everything,” Alice said.
“Where will we buy it?” Lily asked. “Ever heard of sneaking out to Hogsmeade?” Alice smirked.
Lily was very apprehensive about sneaking out. Although she did sneak out with James, Sirius, and Marlene to hang out, this time it was different. She barely knew Pandora and Alice, and she was convinced Alice would throw her out the window if she got the chance. Pandora made sure Alice kept her temper in check, though.
“Won’t it be dark by the time they go out?” Alice questioned. “Yeah, but they can stargaze. And they get to see the sunset, too. That’s romantic,” Lily stated.
“Hmm, I guess,” Alice hummed. She trudged around the store, looking at the flower assortments.
“What kind of flowers does Y/n like?” Lily asked. “Camellias,” Alice answered.
“We should get some then,” Lily suggested. “Oh, I didn’t realize you were Y/n’s boyfriend. Shouldn’t James be here?” Alice scoffed.
“I told him I would take care of everything.”
“He’s the one who is supposed to be doing all the work.”
“Did Y/n help at all with the scavenger hunt?”
“No because it was their first date. They’ve been together for three months now. James needs to pull his weight.”
“Well, why don’t we ring him up then?” Lily suggested.
“He’s probably busy pranking someone,” Alice remarked.
“Why don’t we just get everything and then ask James if he likes it afterwards? We have enough time to go back and exchange,” Pandora said.
“I don’t want to sneak out twice,” Alice said. “Once isn’t bad enough?” Lily raised her brow.
Alice rolled her eyes, grabbing a bouquet of camellias off the shelf. “Let’s pay for this then go and grab the food. I want to get this done fast.”
“Fine by me,” Lily shrugged. She looked at Pandora who has a sorry smile on her face. “She’s just worried,” Pandora stated.
Lily sighed and nodded. “Yeah, I know. Is she usually this snappy, though?”
“Mmm, she can be,” Pandora chuckled. “She’ll warm up to you the more time you spend with her. But for now, I’ll make sure you both don’t lose your heads.”
Lily smiled, “thank you, Pandora. You’re a life saver. Well, my life saver.”
“Don’t mention it,” Pandora winked.
The three returned to Hogwarts with an hour to spare. Deciding on the food and decorations took too much time and they were forced to have James settle in what they originally got. Luckily for them, James loved everything.
“Thank you all so much!” James hugged each and every one of them.
“Don’t mention it,” Alice quickly pulled away from his embrace.
“Should I tell Y/n you did all this?” James asked.
“No,” Lily said.
“Yes,” Alice answered.
The two gave each other glares.
“You’re suggesting James lie to Y/n?” Alice raised her brows.
“If Y/n knows that he did all this, she’ll fall for him even more and it’ll show that he’s sweet and puts in effort.”
“Yeah, but he didn’t,” Alice laughed sourly. “We three hauled our asses for three hours arguing for him. I’m not about to let my efforts to go waste.”
“You’re going to ruin their relationship,” Lily accused. Alice gasped, “me? Are you joking?”
“Girls, girls, calm down,” James interjected. “Look, I’ll tell Y/n you did this. I’ll make sure to give a special shout out to you, Alice.”
“And Pandora. Pan made sure I didn’t rip the redhead’s head off.”
James chuckled, looking to Lily who was rolling her eyes. “Noted. Thank you all again, so much. I promise I’ll make all the plans next time.”
“Yeah, you better,” Alice mumbled.
James turned to Lily, smiling down at her. “Thank you so much.”
“Of course, Jamie. Now go! Have fun!” Lily grinned.
“Yeah, alright,” he nodded.
Alice and Pandora stared with wide eyes at their exchange.
“Is James still in love with Lily?” Alice whispered. Pandora gulped, “I… I think so.”
“Dammit,” Alice mumbled. “Time to go bust his balls.”
“No, stop,” Pandora grabbed her arm. “Why? He’s going to break Y/n’s heart,” Alice said.
“He’s also in love with Y/n. I think more so than with Lily. We should wait this out.”
“And potentially risk Y/n’s heart getting broken? Yeah, no thanks.”
“Let’s just wait until tomorrow then, okay? Y/n’s been looking forward to this date the whole day. Let’s not ruin it.”
Alice huffed, relaxing and stepping back next to Pandora. “Fine. Only because I love Y/n and you.”
Pandora smiled, side-hugging Alice. “It’ll be worth it.”
“It better be.”

James was surprised when Lily approached him after class. He was a stammering, red-faced mess.
“Y/n won’t mind, right?” Lily asked.
“N-No, of course not. Sirius and Marlene will be there. It’s not a d-date. For us, anyways,” James said.
She grinned, making James’s heart skip. “Fantastic! I’ll see you tonight, Jamie.”
“S-See you tonight, Lily.” He stared at her with a dreamy smile. She walked away, smiling at him over her shoulder.
“Look at you!” Sirius exclaimed. He clapped James on the back. “Makin’ moves!”
“Well, Lily technically made the first move,” Remus stated.
“And James agreed!” Sirius beamed. Remus looked at James worriedly. “What are you going to tell Y/n?”
“The truth?” James replied as if it was obvious.
“You don’t think she’ll be angry and jealous?” Remus raised his brows.
James scoffed, “We aren’t actually dating. Plus, I had to practically beg her to kiss me during the scavenger hunt.”
“That was embarrassing,” Sirius chuckled. “I know, right?” James muttered.
“I think she was just nervous,” Remus stated. “And how do you know?” James questioned.
“She looks at you… not like how a fake-girlfriend should.”
James’s heart spiked. “What does that mean?”
Remus sighed and shook his head. “Nevermind. I have to go to my next class.”
“Moons, you can’t just leave me confused!” James whined.
“I do it all the time,” Remus smirked. “I’ll see you later. Have fun on your date!”
“Thanks,” James mumbled, turning back to Sirius. “What should I wear.”
“Definitely not what you’re wearing now,” Sirius smirked.
“What’s wrong with this!” James scoffed, looking down at his juice-stained pants and three-day old sweater.
“You smell like shit, man. I’m surprised Lily didn’t vomit when she talked to you.”
“I have no other clean clothes,” James frowned.
“Borrow something of mine, then. It’ll be a little baggy, but we can make it work.”
“Thanks, Pads. I gotta go, too. I promised Y/n I’d carry her books for her.” James put his books in his backpack, slinging it over his shoulder.
“You gonna tell her about Lily?” Sirius asked.
“Of course. Why wouldn’t I?”
Sirius shrugged, “Nothin’. Have fun carrying your girlfriend’s books.”
James smirked, “I definitely will. We’re also gonna hold hands and do a goodbye kiss.”
“You need a condom, just in case?”
“Ha-ha,” James rolled his eyes. “See you later!”
“Have fun!” Sirius grinned.
The two boys parted ways as they walked out of the classroom. James met up with Y/n, giving her a small smile as she approached him.
“Where have you been? I’m going to be late,” she frowned.
“I was talking to my friends, chill out,” James said.
She grumbled something under her breath, piling her books into his hands and locking arms.
“How was your day been, darling?” He said the nickname with a little bit of edge.
“Just fine, baby,” she teased him back. “What were you talking with your friends about?”
“Well, Lily asked me to hang out,” James smiled.
Y/n stopped in her tracks and slowly looked at him. He searched her eyes for any type of joy, but he couldn’t find it. In fact, he couldn’t find anything. Her face was blank, lips drawn into a fine line and her eyes wide and unfocused.
“Y/n? Are you okay?” James squeezed her forearm.
“Yeah,” she nodded slowly. “I’m just… wow,” she laughed. “That’s amazing, James!”
He could hear the uneasiness in her voice.
“You think so?”
“Yeah!” She smiled. Her lips were upturned into a big grin, but the corners of her eyes stayed smooth. When she was really smiling, the outer corners of her eyes would crinkle. The top of her gums would show, and she would let out a little laugh, too. James could tell she wasn’t actually happy for him.
He could also tell she didn’t want to talk about it any further. He painted on a smile, one almost like hers. “Thank you. Yeah, I’m really excited.
“Oh, I bet,” she chuckled. She turned her body forward, beginning to walk again. “What are you two going to do?”
“We’re gonna sneak out to Hogsmeade with Sirius and Marlene.”
“Ah, so it’s a double date?”
“No, no. Lily knows we’re together. We are just hanging out while Sirius and Marlene are going on a date.”
Y/n chuckled, “It’s okay if you want to call it a date. I don’t care.”
“I know, but we have to keep up appearances, you know?”
“Yeah,” she nodded. She was silent for a few moments. “Well, I hope you two have fun. Tell me all the details.”
“I definitely will,” he nodded. “Do you, uh, have any plans for tonight?”
“Just gonna hang out with Pandora and Alice.”
“Not gonna see Otto?” James wiggled his brows.
Y/n let out a genuine laugh. It was music to his ears.
“No. Honestly, I’m not sure if Otto and I are a thing anymore.”
“Why not?”
“I don’t know,” she sighed. “I mean, we never were a thing, but now it definitely doesn’t feel like we are a thing. You know?”
“I understand,” he nodded. “Sorry about that. I know how much you liked him.”
“It’s alright. I used to like him a lot. I don’t know, I haven’t really wanted to see him lately.”
“You don’t like him anymore?”
“I guess I don’t,” she mumbled. “Well, I’m sure he still likes you. I heard him talking about you,” he said.
“Oh?” She raised her brows. “Yep. He was saying how he misses you,” he said.
She hummed in reply. “Well, that’s nice to know.”
“Maybe you two can rekindle the romance,” James smirked.
Y/n chuckled, “Maybe.” She stopped on her heel, leaning against the doorway. “Thanks for carrying my books. Have fun with Lily tonight.”
“Thanks. You have fun with your friends tonight, too.”
“I definitely will.”
James smiled and pecked her cheek. “See you later, darling.”
“Bye, baby,” she winked. She watched his retreating figure, laughing a little at how he bounced on his feet. She took a turn into the classroom, finding her seat next to Pandora.
“Saw you two getting a little close,” Pandora stated.
“Well, we are dating.”
“It has been a month! Are you two going to do anything special?” Pandora asked.
“No,” Y/n shook her head. “Why not? Your anniversary is tomorrow,” Pandora frowned.
“It is?” Y/n furrowed her brows. Time had passed by so quickly, she didn’t realize she had been “dating” James for a month. She still thought it had only been a couple weeks.
“Y/n!” Pandora chuckled. “Did you seriously forget your anniversary?”
“I- I guess I did,” Y/n mumbled, still in thought.
“I bet James has something special planned. He’s a romantic.”
“He isn’t.”
“Do you not pay attention to him or what? You’re seriously missing the cues.”
“This is my first relationship I’ve been in in a long time. So what I don’t do everything perfectly?”
“Mmm, I true. I’m sorry, I’m just so excited for you. You seem to really like him, and he really likes you, too. You two definitely weren’t an obvious pair, but you two make it work. You’re a good looking couple.”
Y/n smiled, “You think so?”
“I do. Everyone thinks so, actually. You two are such a good looking couple that Otto is a little jealous.”
Y/n tried to care, but she couldn’t find it in herself to do so. She just didn’t like Otto like that anymore. Thinking about him didn’t feel the same, and when she imagined being with him, she felt bored. How did her crush disappear just like that?
“Too bad I’m not interested in him anymore,” Y/n said.
“True, but you could use it to your advantage. Make James jealous and have a hot, jealous make out session.”
Y/n laughed heartily. “There are better ways to make someone jealous than by boxer like cheating on them.”
“True,” Pandora nodded. “Well, if you need help planning out your anniversary date, let me know. Alive and I would be glad to help!”
“I got it this time. Thanks, Dora.”
————
“You look really pretty,” James beamed.
Lily blushed, looking down shyly. “You look quite nice yourself.”
“Thank you,” he said. “How are you enjoying your food?”
“It’s good,” she nodded. “Good,” he said.
The two sat in awkward silence once again.
This “date” was a lot more painful than either had anticipated. It was just the two of them in the restaurant. Sirius took Marlene to the candy shop and let the couple spend some time alone. James wished Sirius hadn’t left. Him and Marlene were the only people allowing the conversation to continue.
“Do you, um, want to walk around?” James suggested.
“Where to?” Lily asked. “Wherever you want,” he answered.
“Okay,” she nodded slowly. “Let me finish my food first.”
“Of course, of course,” he smiled.
She ate the rest of her dinner. James paid for the bill and the two walked out of the restaurant, searching for where to go.
“Is there a jewelry store here?” James asked. “I don’t know. I haven’t been here in a while. But we can look,” Lily said.
He nodded, “Sounds good.”
The couple walked aimlessly through Hogsmeade, searching in each store for something appealing.
“Why do you want to go to a jewelry store?” Lily questioned.
“Oh, um,” James’s face started to get red. “I assumed you’d want to look a jewelry.”
Lily chuckled, “I like other things than material stuff.”
“I know,” he nodded. “But I was hoping maybe I’d buy something for you, too.”
Lily quirked her brow up. “And what about Y/n?”
“What about her?” James asked. “Are you planning on cheating on her with me?” She asked.
“What? No!”
“Okay, good. I don’t want to be friends with a cheater. Plus, Y/n is a good person. She doesn’t deserve that.”
James nodded. “Yeah, I completely agree.”
“You two are a cute couple, you know? I never expected it, but you suit each other.”
He found himself smiling at her words, imagining him and Y/n as the “perfect couple”. “Thank you. Yeah, she’s great. It’s funny, I had no idea who she was. But then we had detention together and bam, we’re like, dating. It’s weird how relationships form so quickly.”
Lily grinned up at him, making him question her. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“You seem to really like her. The way you talk about her, the look in your eyes. It’s cute.”
James was a little taken aback. “I-I mean, yeah, I like her. She’s cool. But it’s not like we’re going to get married.” He tried to pay it off cool, let Lily know that the two definitely were not serious, and that if Lily wanted to date him, he’d be open.
“You never know,” Lily hummed. She stopped in her tracks, looking at the store in front of her. “Oh, look, it’s a jewelry store.”
“Shall we go in?” James asked. “We shall,” she smiled.
He opened the door for her and the two walked in. Lily made a bee line to the necklaces. James stood in the shop awkwardly, hands stuffed in his pockets as he watched Lily gaze at the necklaces. She looked so beautiful in the dim light of the shop. Her hair was braided into a side ponytail. Her lashes were long with mascara, her eyelids shining gold. Her green irises were wide and focused on each piece of jewelry. James smiled at the sight.
“You think this one will look good?” Lily held up a silver necklace with a heart locket. It looked exactly like the one him and Y/n had found on their scavenger hunt.
“I think so. Want to try it on?” He asked. “Yeah. Can you help me?” Lily asked.
He nodded, grabbing the necklace from her. She turned around and he wrapped the chain around her neck, his fingers brushing against her warm skin. He shakily clasped the necklace, his heart racing as she turned around. She grabbed the locket, looking up at him through her lashes. “How does it look?”
James gazed at her, getting lost in her eyes. He wasn’t thinking of her, though. No, Lily was far from his mind. He was thinking of Y/n and the night of their first date. The way she looked in the moonlight, her small smile at he made jokes, the edge to her voice whenever she got annoyed. How pretty she looked with the necklace.
“James?” Lily poked his shoulder, bringing him back into reality.
“Yeah?” He asked, his voice distant in his ears.
“You okay? I asked you how the necklace looks.”
He coughed awkwardly, nodding in acknowledgement. “Yeah, it looks great. Really great.”
“You think I should buy it?”
“Um…” James hummed, his eyes wandering to a gold chain with a emerald on it. “You should buy this.” He grabbed the gold necklace, holding it up.
“Really?”
“Yeah, it matches your eyes,” he smiled. Lily smiled back. “Alright. I’ll take your word for it.” She walked to the cashier, leaving him alone.
He shook the thought of Y/n away. He was determined to have one thing on his mind tonight: Lily.
