Friedrich and Edwina headcanons?
OKAY SO
neither of them are looking for love when they meet
after the disaster of her debut season, edwina doesn't really trust anyone anymore, including herself, and has decided it's better to find a decently kind husband who respects her rather than one who makes pretty declarations of love she'll never really believe
friedrich's not actually in london for the season, he's here in a diplomatic capacity to discuss the problem of napoleon escaping from elba and retaking france but his aunt charlotte asks him to stay for a while and he's always had a soft spot for her so he can't say no
she takes him to the next ball and friedrich is immediately mobbed by mothers wanting to introduce him to their eligible daughters - he's polite, courteous, but his cheeks are aching from the false smiling and his feet are tired from the dancing when he notices there's one girl in the room that he hasn't been introduced to (who's also the prettiest girl in the room, in his opinion), who he thinks he has only seen dancing once or twice and spent most of the evening sat by herself in the corner
he asks one of his cousins about her and he just shrugs and says, "well, no one wants to court a woman who runs away at the altar" but doesn't explain more than that and friedrich leaves it because he has no wish to dance any more tonight but he does think it's a crime for a woman that lovely to be left by herself
edwina noticed the handome, golden-haired prince, of course, and thought about how last year she might have been one of those girls eagerly anticipating a dance with him, but she no longer believes in fairytales and she certainly doesn't believe in prince charming, and he will certainly want nothing to do with her, so there's no point in seeking an introduction
she doesn't think of him again until a few nights later when they attend the opera - she is (regrettably) in the bridgerton box which is near enough to the royal box that she can see the prince and see the lady sat by him (one of the queen's favourites, she thinks) and she hear the woman trying to flirt with him through the entire performance by asking him to translate what they're singing; the prince answers politely enough the first few times but is clearly getting exasperated and when he outright lies and starts making up an entirely different plotline edwina, who can understand it all perfectly, can't help laughing
and apparently she's near enough that the prince can her as well, because he turns and his eyes meet her briefly when she laughs and she can't be entirely sure in the dark but when he turns back again she thinks he's smiling as well
two days later edwina has been persuaded to join the bridgertons in hyde park when the prince, out for a stroll with his friend the earl of kilmartin, stops to greet daphne and she introduces them
friedrich bows over her hand and cannot resist greeting her - this dark-eyed girl who he has been wondering about since the opera - in german, just to be sure she really was laughing for the reason he thought. sure enough she replies in kind, and he feels rather triumphant because the first time he saw her she looked so solemn and sad and it feels like an accomplishment to have made her laugh.
they fall into easy conversation and he mentions a ball he's been invited to, and asks if she will be there and if he might claim a dance - but her face falls a little and she replies softly that no, she's not been invited
he asks his aunt about her that evening and she pulls a face and tells him the whole story, though with an emphasis on how embarrassing it was for her to have her diamond run out on her wedding
he feels angry on edwina's behalf just hearing it, but even more so when he attends the ball and sees all the bridgertons have been invited and it is only edwina that has been excluded
she is, however, invited to the queen's ball the next week, which is a masquerade - and her favourite ball of the season so far as fewer people seem to recognise her beneath the mask and she does not hear as many whispers following her about
friedrich recognises her immediately, though, and asks her for a dance. she hesitates but they are masked after all so she lets him whirl her into a waltz and when the music ends and he looks into her eyes she can hardly breathe and it's the most terrifying thing she's ever felt
so when he calls on her the next day she tries to put him off, saying her reputation will only harm him, but he only smiles and reminds her that he's a prince of prussia and a little english gossip won't harm him and, besides, he only wishes to be her friend
that makes her relax a little, because she can do friends
and they quickly become good friends, she finds, he enjoys listening to her talk about philosophy and poetry and starts teaching him tamil and in return he tells her of his interest in history and astronomy (picked up from his uncle george, before his illness got very bad) and teaches her to play chess
and if sometimes she finds him watching her with a tender expression on his face that makes her heart thump wildly in her chest, and if sometimes she wonders what it would feel like to kiss him or remembers his what his arms felt like around her while they were waltzing she determinedly ignores it
because she has learned not to trust to fairytales and even as she grows fonder of him she wonders if she's mistaken about him, if he's hiding part of himself from her, if she'll learn something that changes everything, or turn around one day to see him giving that look to someone else
then there comes a night when someone drops a glass and it shatters and friedrich pales and starts shaking, his eyes far away, and edwina takes him outside and holds his hand until he's come back to himself, and he tells her a little of his experiences in the war and how they haunt him still
she tells him of her heartbreak, of the anger that she has tried to push a way but still sears its way through her at times, of the doubt she can never quite get rid of
his thumb gently strokes her fingers as he asks her if she thinks that two somewhat broken people might be able to help piece each other back together
"I don't know," she says, quietly, "but I'd like to think so."
she can't quite admit that she loves him yet, not even to herself - it's not until he has to leave to fight napoleon once more, when he's gone and she reads the papers anxiously every day for reports, and realises that she's more frightened that she'll never get the chance to tell him than she is of being hurt again that she understands how she feels
when he does return (with a few new scars but no permanent injuries) she throws herself into his arms, and he holds her tight against him, and for the first time there's no doubt in her mind at all
they marry in as small a ceremony as is possible for royalty, and although they'll spend much of their time in prussia, queen charlotte gifts them an estate in england for their wedding gift so they always have a home there as well
many years later, when edwina has given birth to their fifth child and friedrich is leading their others in to greet their new sister, she thinks to herself that perhaps fairytales aren't real, but that doesn't mean happily ever afters don't exist

first meeting/modern au - edwina sharma x prince friedrich
for @tarrynmj
Tumblr media
"This is an expensive dress."
"As is this watch, perhaps that's why we are stuck like this."
Edwina cannot help but giggle at the situation. Leaving her hotel room, carrying multiple bags herself, plus her own clutch, was not the best idea. The dress, a deep pink with wide sheer sleeves was beautiful when she bought it.
She had not expected to bump into a stranger and get stuck to him. Sophie had said the dress would help her pull - Edwina did not think that she meant this!
The stranger was more amused than anything.
"Let's see," He hums gently as he works to unhook the material from his timepeice. A small thread had hooked itself onto the small movement.
"It is a beautiful watch." Edwina compliments weakly.
"It was my father's." He tells her.
He managed to unhook them, "Well, he was rather a, ah, lothario?" He says, "I do hope this was not one of his tricks."
"Um, I'm Edwina." She introduced.
"Freddie." He shook her hand and then looked at the time, "Ah, good, not late at all."
She gently grabbed his wrist to see that it was nearly six and cursed quietly whilst Freddie raised an eyebrow amused.
"Late for a meeting? Let me guess, an accountant?" Freddie asked.
"Oh, but this is all the rage at Barclays!" Edwina jokes, "No, it's my sister's bachelorette party." She began to pick up the glittery party bags.
"Here let me help. It is the least I can do." He takes four of the six bags and they walk to the elevator together as Edwina tries to avoid direct eye contact.
"These are beautiful party favors," Freddie says.
"Oh, I put them together - a little something for my sister and the group," Edwina explained.
"Slippers?" He gestures to the fluffy items wrapped in plastic.
"You do not know the pain of wearing heels for hours on a night out, do you?"
He clicked his tongue, "Second year of undergrad refreshers week - I won a bet." He says. She giggles. Stand up! Edwina scolded herself.
"You must be really close to be doing all this?" Freddie asked.
Edwina shrugs, "It's nothing. Kate, she would do the same. She's always taken care of me and I just want all of this to go well. For her to have so much fun before going on to have more fun. And I love planning things. And gift bags. This was perfect for me!"
Freddie smiled gently at her enthusiasm as she looked away, her face warm with embarrassment.
"I am the eldest myself." He tells her, "My sister is still in school - uh, year 12? She wants to be a vet and wants me to get married so she can wear a ball gown."
"Oh good for her. You are a cruel brother, depriving her of the occasion!" Edwina playfully gasped.
He grinned, "I am just awful. What about you?"
"What about me?"
"Will your sister be struggling with gift bags with slippers and candy anytime soon?"
"I'm not the greatest at dating." Edwina said sheepishly, "I mean, I have been on dates but..." She shuts her eyes in embarrassment as she rambles and stutters.
But Freddie wasn't teasing or judgmental, smirking and said, "You are single. Good. I still have a chance."
They reached the ground floor and he dutifully followed her to the hotel bar and restaurant to the booked table.
Kate was at the bar, dressed in a mini silver dress and excited to see her sister escorted by a very handsome man.
Kate mouthed 'who's the hot guy?' from behind and Edwina's eyes widened in embarrassment.
"Thanks." She said shyly to Freddie who grinned.
"Have a fun night," He said with a wink and then left, but not before looking back at the funny woman in pink.
Kate smirked, then deepened her voice, "Have a fun night," She said mockingly, "I think he wanted to have a good night with you."
"Shut up. He was just a nice man." Edwina scolded and decided to distract her sister by waving her goody bag in front of her face which only worked momentarily.
"You are beautiful, bon. Thank you for all of this."
"Well, how else shall I celebrate your first marriage?" Edwina teased, making her laugh.
"Anyway, who was the cute man?"
Edwina shrugged, "I don't know. Our rooms are next to each other."
"Ooh, maybe it's fate!" Kate teased.
Edwina shook her head but there was a part of her that hoped so. She didn't realize that Freddie felt the same way.

Miss Edwina Sharma and Prince Friedrich

S3 Edwina could be so interesting! She became a traumatised jaded young woman in s2 who doesn’t believe in love or happy endings. So she goes into the new season with a cynical mindset: she’s there to find a husband, not love. This is an arrangement of convenience, devoid of emotions. She’s also more guarded and detached because the lies in s2 eroded her trust in people and her self-confidence. So Edwina second guesses everyone and herself “are they lying? Am I just too blind?” There’d be this ambivalence between Edwina not believing in love but deep down hoping it’s true.
Enter the prince, who’s been burnt as well but his aunt insists he meets Edwina (queen Charlotte would be a HUGE shipper). He does and it’s love at first sight for him. He’s mesmerised by her and her sarcastic quips (she’s much more open about what she thinks now). But something’s holding her back. Cue the prince being very supportive, patient, attentive etc. Edwina’s baffled and misunderstands everything he does (which could be very funny). What are his ulterior motives? Does he see her as a game? Why would a prince want her? Edwina would suppress her feelings to not get hurt even when her family tells her there’s love between them. But she can’t believe them yet.
What I’m saying is slow-burn Prince Friedrich x Edwina, heart-eyes Friedrich, repressed feelings, tension, library dates (library gift scene Beauty and the Beast-style), BOOKS, clueless Edwina, frustrated Friedrich, Edwina learning to love, big romantic declarations, Princess Edwina.

Okay, but Mary and Kate interrogating Friedrich whilst Edwina sighs longingly would be hilarious.
Lol, this is perfect! I have so many ideas for this prompt so I'm, quite literally, restricting myself from making this so long 😭. I hope the interrogation aspect was to your liking, as well as everything else. It does have a spicy moment but it's very brief.
Tumblr media
In retrospect, Edwina should have been better prepared for this moment. She honestly should have. When she and Friedrich had first met, almost instantly finding some form of comfort within one another and arranging to see one another more and more, the latter hadn't exactly made it known that he was royalty let alone a prince or the nephew of the queen at that. Rather, he had concealed his identity ("simply call me Friedrich in public, and whatever your heart desires in private").
Edwina would never admit this, but she did squeal very childishly into her pillows that night after.
When the truth had been revealed albeit abruptly when Friedrich, now wearing the identity of the crown prince of Prussia, had immediately locked his gaze on to her and sought to spend most of the ball of the season hosted by Lady Danbury, who Edwina swore had, whilst watching the pair dance the night away, whispered something into Queen Charlotte's ears and had left them both wearing Cheshire cat smiles in response. Not that either would admit it.
And though Edwina had been discouraged by the reveal (she was so tired of things be kept from her, as that ended so well the last time), Friedrich, to her shock, practically fell to his knees before her when they were able to sneak away and expressed his sincerities over hurting her. "That was the last thing that I ever wanted to do," he swore, holding her hand to his chest. "Forgive me, liebling, but I wanted to stay in the moment where I was just a simple man who met a woman who claimed his heart from the start. Without the weighted of my royal status hanging over us."
The pair had been swept up in a form of passion that night, where Edwina had experienced things that had left her desiring the prince more and more (and him the same). But there was something else too. Something that she could distinctly remember dreaming over when she was a little girl, her parents and sister telling stories of how it would one day happen to her, something that she had feared wouldn't following her failed season. She was in love, and it was a beautiful thing.
But back to the situation at hand. Following their shared night together, Friedrich had promptly made his presence known at the Danbury residents with a series of flowers and gifts---for herself, her sister, her mother, and Lady Danbury. When he had confessed that he had wished to court Edwina, publicly that is but no needed to know that outside of them, Edwina couldn't help the butterflies in her stomach as they burst when his gaze fell on her.
To her surprise, however, her sister and mother shared little of the same sentiment. The bare had briefly shared a glance and it wasn't before long that Edwina knew that they would take more winning over to be impressed. Relaying some of her shared time with the prince prior hadn't helped as much either, as Mary had nearly sent Friedrich from the Danbury residents with threats of meeting at dawn had Edwina not interfered and provided a more informed explanation. And while Mary had been reassured, she very sternly (caring little for the fact that she was speaking to a prince) commented that any meetings between the pair would be chaperoned accordingly and no longer will secret meetings take place.
Edwina sighed in acceptance to the former as, with a swift shared look with Friedrich, it had been silently agreed that their secret meetings would still transpire. She could only hope that they would be successful as her mother's keen eyes would follow them everywhere, that Edwina was sure of.
Kate, while feeling some form of peace that her sister would be well taken care of, held no knowledge of who Friedrich was as a person outside of being a prince and set off to fill in as many blanks as she could. And while Friedrich had answered every one of her, many, questions with relatively diplomatic expertise, Kate still remained hardly convinced. When Friedrich had mentioned that he enjoyed horse riding and hunting, Kate gave him little time before announcing that they should set off tomorrow morning and put that notion to the test as what better way to get to know more about the man who wishes to court her sister.
When they returned, Friedrich discussed little of what he and her sister had talked about before leaving a kiss on her head and disappearing into the night, with a drawn out sigh Edwina had decided to seek Kate out.
"It's just that I don't him, Bon. It was rather of a shock to discover a man standing in Lady Danbury's home with the intent to court you. But then I find out that he is a prince as well, adding on to the fact that you too have known each other for longer-"
Edwina quickly cut in before her sister could overwhelm herself. "I know he hid his identity from me, and I will not lie and say that it did not hurt. But I understand now, Kate, as had I'd known than what the two of us have now would have been weighed down during its developing stages. This is a better alternative."
"I just wish to know more about him is all, prince or not I have to make sure that he can provide for you." Kate placed a hand on Edwina's cheek. "In more than just luxuries but for your heart as well. I know that things had been...tense for a period of time, and we have healed from it, but you will always be my sister and I cannot help but worry."
Edwina simply smiled. "And I love you for it, even more for giving me the chance to take care of this myself. While Friedrich is more than capable of caring for me with his status, I have long since come to find out that he'll care for my heart as well."
It was still evident that the prince still had work to be done in regard to winning over her family, but much to both of their surprise a series of acts would assist them in that process. First had been during a viewing at the opera where Friedrich had sat alongside Edwina with the rest of the Bridgertons, chatting ideally with her in-laws and whispering to her in French when he was sure that no one would catch. During a break in the show, Edwina had moved with Francesca and Eloise to the powder room in hopes of freshing up when she felt the sense of dread that had become all to familiar following her failed season.
Lord Charles and other men of high society muttered jeers and hardly concealed stabbing comments her way, watching her with amusement that could only be found in men who held nothing better to do than humiliate women. Edwina held her head high, doing her best to tune out their comments even as Eloise had sought to give them a peace of her mind. Edwina, however, wished to take no part.
That did not mean that Friedrich thought the same.
The matter was relatively a blur, if Edwina was being honest, as she watched from afar as Friedrich had appeared behind the group of men with a faux cheery deposition with his eyes sharp enough to cut. A bitting smile on his face did not change, but the once arrogant posture of Lord Charles and the men around him dropped and became one of embarrassment and, if Edwina looked close enough, possibly even fear?
When Friedrich left the pair and returned to Edwina's side, he gave off little input on what had just transpired. "We simply talked about how it wasn't appropriate for gentlemen talk about ladies in such a manner, and that they should refrain from doing so. Especially toward you."
Edwina knew that that wasn't the whole story but quickly halted her series of questions when she noticed her mother and sister looking over at the pair, this time with mirroring pride and approval in their eyes. It didn't take long for Edwina to find a mischievous Eloise by their side, who Edwina was sure had informed them of everything that had happened.
"Liebling?" Friedrich questioned when he did not receive a response.
Edwina sighed, reaching to loop their arms together as they moved back to their seats and prepared for the show to start again. "I think you just gained my sister's and mother's approval."

💖 & Fredwina
💖 rough kiss
"You're infuriating, do you know that?" The words slip from Edwina before she has even realised what she's going to say. "Is this all a game to you?"
Fredrich's eyebrows raise almost to his hairline and something flashes in his eyes, and perhaps for the first time since she met him his perfect smile slips.
"A game to me?" he repeats, disbelievingly.
It feels oddly, queasily satisfying, to think she might finally be about to get a glimpse of what lies beneath his princely mask, and despite the voice in her head screaming for her to stop she can't help but keep going. She wants to know if he can feel anger the way she does - somehow she has the idea that if someone so golden, so lovely, can burn with rage, it will make her own rage less frightening.
"Yes, you. Do you find it amusing? To play the gentleman and flirt with a girl the rest of society scorns? Is it your way of rebelling or do you just want to use me as a shield against actual, suitable matches?"
"You accuse me of using you?" He doesn't raise his voice, but there is anger simmering there. He steps forward so he's looming over her, but despite the fact that she's rarely been so aware of how tall he is and how short she is, Edwina doesn't feel afraid of him. Maybe that's why she can be so angry with him. "You, who will smile at me and dance with me, tease me and challenge me, but will shut me out as soon as I try to get close to you? Are you not playing with me, schatz?"
Edwina shakes her head, almost wanting to laugh. "How could I possibly play with you? You're a prince, I'm nothing."
"Don't talk of yourself like that," he snaps, and the fact that even in the midst of arguing with her he will defend her from herself makes her want to growl in frustration.
"I don't know what you want from me!" she bursts out.
"Really? I find that hard to believe. You're not an unintelligent woman, Edwina."
Her heart's beating wildly in her chest because perhaps she does know, but she could never believe - no matter how intently he in staring at her, no matter how much it feels like his gaze is searing her from the inside out -
"It's impossible. You're a prince," she tells him again. "You can't."
Then he does look angry, his brow furrowing into a scowl as he says sharply, "The hell I can't," before he has surged forward, clutching her face his hands, and covered her mouth with his.
It is not a soft or gentle kiss, like the sort Edwina always imagined when she read her fairytales and romances. It is raw, unrestrained, his lips almost bruising where they press down on hers - and what felt like anger suddenly feels like something much different, though it courses through her veins like fire and burns her just the same.
His arms come around and she finds herself being pushed back against the wall, locked firmly in his embrace as he continues to kiss her mercilessly, biting at her bottom lip and teasing her mouth open so that he can deepen it. Edwina's heartbeat is now a roar in her ears and it takes her a moment to realise the low moan she can hear beneath it is her own. Her breathing already ragged but she brings her arms up to wind around Fredrich's neck, her fingers raking through his hair as she seeks to bring him even closer and kisses him back with the same rough, unrestrained passion.
Because god, maybe it's foolish of her but she wants him. Has wanted him, almost since they met. She's just been afraid.
But between the slant of their mounts Fredrich is murmuring, "I don't want anything from you. I just want you," and she thinks that if he keeps kissing her maybe, just maybe, she'll start to believe him.

'Brighter Future'
Fandom: Bridgerton Characters: Edwina Sharma Pairing: Edwina/Prince Friedrich Rating: G Words: 1.592 Summary: Edwina writing down her thoughts and feelings on meeting Prince Friedrich for the first time and how to move forward after the failed wedding. A/N: So I wanted to write something nice for Edwina because I’m currently working on two fanfics where I’m not really treating her that much better than the show did (she gets her happy ending but she’s still the victim of Anthony’s behaviour in those fics). And I had this idea for a short oneshot, consisting of three diary entries about her meeting Prince Friedrich for the first time. Hope you like it :)
[you can also read it on AO3]
Friday, June 3rd 1814
Tomorrow is a very exciting day – perhaps the most exciting one in a while. Her Majesty the Queen had informed me that her nephew, Prince Friedrich of Prussia, would be joining us in town for the remainder of the season. She had also told me that she could not wait for me to be introduced to him. It was not the first time that the Prince had been mentioned. Her Majesty had already let me know a while ago – after the whole disaster with the failed wedding – that her nephew was still looking for a bride. Which is also why I believe that his sudden visit was neither scheduled nor a coincidence. Perhaps, he had even decided to visit this town solely to meet me.
If that is true, I believe I should be thrilled. One does not meet a prince every day. Yet somehow, I worry. What if I do not meet his expectations? If my suspicion is correct, the Queen would have without doubt mentioned me to him, letting him know about the woman she had named the Diamond. Will I again be a disappointment to Her Majesty?
And it is not just the Queen who appears to be delighted about the news of her nephew’s arrival. Mother had mentioned the Prince as well, the smile bright on her face. And Kate had said that maybe soon I will be receiving the wedding and the husband I deserve. They are almost talking about it as if it was already set in stone, yet I had not even met him. What if he does not like me? What if no man will ever like me?
Lord Bridgerton and I might have decided to let everyone know that ending our engagement had been a mutual decision. We had been nothing but amicable towards one another in public. Yet people love creating their own version of events, and with him and Kate engaged to one another so soon after, there are more than enough stories to be created. Will the Prince believe the whole scenario to be odd as well?
I could tell myself that everyone just wants for me to be happy, but somehow, I doubt it. Mother wants me to be happy, I know that. Kate wants me to be happy as well, of course, yet I also know that she still feels guilty. I do not know Lord Bridgerton’s feelings – he had told me that he was sorry but he had also lied to me many times in the past. I do not doubt that both of them would prefer for me to find happiness, just so they do not have to feel any guilt in regard to their own happiness. And of course I want for them to be happy – the past cannot be changed. But I also cannot convince myself that their wish for my happiness is completely selfless.
And of course the Queen probably only hopes that she had not been mistaken in naming me her Diamond.
So all I can do now is hope that the Prince will like me. Still, I am nervous. I hope tomorrow will go well.
Saturday, June 4th 1814
I am delighted to write that today has been wonderful and that the Prince had been nothing but charming. A true gentleman and a delightful presence. He had given me the highest of compliments about my beauty and wisdom. And he is also a very handsome man. I had danced with him several times tonight and although I enjoyed it very much, I have to admit that I now feel somewhat odd.
Part of me would call him perfect – perfect in every aspect. A man I could imagine raising a family with, and a man I could imagine falling in love with. Yet another part of me is hesitant. Because it had not been too long ago when I had felt the same about a different man – a man that will now marry my sister.
I had never believed Lord Bridgerton to be disingenuous in his feelings. He had never told me that he loved me, yet his actions and words had made me believe that he was in love with me nonetheless. Looking back at that time now, perhaps I should have realised that his feelings were not what I had believed. Perhaps I should have even noticed that bond between him and my sister. But in the end, I had not noticed anything until the wedding. How do I know I might not be mistaken again? What if the Prince is just like him?
I had let Kate know my worries earlier, after she had asked me whether something was amiss. She had then told me that I should not let the past haunt my future, and had also apologised for her actions and secrecy again. I had told her in return that I have already forgiven her, but that forgiveness did not mean I could forget the past that easily.
And now I worry – I fear, even – that every single man will only ever remind me of the Viscount. That every time I talk to a man, my doubts will prevent me from accepting their honesty. And what would that mean for me? Will I ever marry? Will I ever be able to fall in love? Kate said that there is no need for me to marry this season if I needed more time. But will time help? Not just in regards to my confusion but also in regards to my prospects? What if the Prince proposes to me? Could I decline someone like him, just because I’m confused? Not to mention that I do like him quite a lot.
I cannot help but imagine what would have happened had I not noticed the feelings my sister holds for Lord Bridgerton. We would have married then. And perhaps, at some point, I would have realised that he had never loved me, and never would.
I had shared those thoughts with Kate as well and she had simply replied that – with her moving back to India – perhaps love could have grown between us. However, I believe that the possibility of that happening would have been very small. I had been a trophy for him, nothing more. Certainly not a wife to fall in love with. Kate had then urged me to talk to Lord Bridgerton about this but I do not believe that to be a good idea. With my confused feelings, I would only cause an argument. And that would not help ease any current tension. And it does not matter anymore. I can count myself lucky that it had never gone that far, and I know that I need to move forward. But for some reason, it is not as easy as I wish for it to be.
Tuesday, June 7th 1814
I had just shared a lovely conversation with the Prince. He had been as friendly and charming as before, and had told me that Lord Bridgerton had talked to him. Apparently, he had let him know the entire story, as well as my doubts. I had been angry at first – although, of course, I had not let the Prince know my anger. However, this was my problem to deal with, and people meddling within my life had caused this problem to begin with.
Nonetheless, the conversation with the Prince had been nice. He had reassured me that he understood my hesitation and had then told me that he would not consider proposing to me before he knew I was ready to make a genuine decision. I had been shocked to hear that – part of me is still in shock. I would have not believed that he was already considering to propose to me.
He had also told me how much he likes me – how pretty he thinks I am, how wise and smart, how well spoken and kind. He had said that he had never met anyone like me and that he had no issue with taking some time so we could get to know one another – that he did not need to marry now and was more than willing to wait for me. I’m afraid I had started to blush at his words, and even now, while writing this, there is still a smile on my face.
Kate had told me that Lord Bridgerton had believed the Prince to be an excellent match for his eldest sister. And apparently his requirements for his sister’s future husband had been very high and exacting. So perhaps, the Prince truly is an honourable and honest man. But maybe Kate was right as well. I do not need to marry right now. Perhaps, it is better to get to know the man that might become my husband. I had believed myself to be in love with Lord Bridgerton, and maybe I had been, but maybe I had also fooled myself to love him because I wanted to. And the Prince had offered to wait for me, after all. Either, he will decide to honour that promise, in which case I will know that he is the right man. Or he won’t, and at least then I won’t be married to him. And he is a prince, after all. He does not have to wait for any woman – certainly not a woman who had just been rejected by a viscount. If he waits, his feelings are genuine. And that thought surely makes the future appear brighter.

An Edwina Sharma x Prince Friedrich fic because I watched season 2 for the 100th time and I simply cannot get over the idea of Edwina and the Prince.
Timeline: After Kanthony's wedding.
Part 1 : Meeting him
Edwina's POV
"You look beautiful, didi," Edwina said to Kate, who was wearing a white dress, no, the white dress. It was the day of their wedding, and only close friends and family were invited to the wedding of the viscount.
"Thank you, Bon." Kate smiled and brushed her hand against Edwina's chin. Tears welled up in Edwina's eyes as she helped her sister get ready. Whatever had happened in the past, she had forgotten, and now she was just sad that her didi was going to move away from her.
"Edwina, dearest," Mary asked her concernedly, "Is anything bothering you?" Edwina shook her head and stood behind Kate, who looked at her worriedly. "I'm just sad that now didi won't be living with us anymore."
"Oh Bon," Kate sighed and hugged her, "You know you can visit anytime, right? And I'll write to you, every day."
"Do you promise?" Edwina asked with soft eyes. Kate nodded.
"Girls, we don't want the bride crying, do we?" Mary said and wiped Kate's eyes and Edwina's too. "God, I'm gonna miss you so much," Mary said and hugged Kate tightly. "I'll miss you too, Mama," Kate replied and smiled. "You look so beautiful, my darling," Mary said, and this time a tear fell down her cheek.
"We don't want the bride's mother crying either, Mama," Edwina said cheekily and wiped it away.
Soon, it was time. Edwina walked into the church with a bouquet of flowers in her hands and looked at Anthony standing in the front. This time, he looked truly happy. Edwina gave him a small smile, bow in front of the Queen, and stood at her appointed position. She noticed a young man sitting beside the Queen, who had blonde hair and deep brown eyes and was wearing clothes befitting a prince.

Before she could think more about it, Mary and Kate walked in, holding hands. Anthony's face lit up with something similar to pure happiness and Edwina felt a punch in her gut. Would any man look at her and smile like that?
The wedding began, the two said their vows and they kissed. At the reception, Edwina was making sure that all guests were attended to well and also making sure that her sister wasn't crying.

Both Kate and the viscount were overwhelmed by the members of the ton as they flocked to congratulate them. Edwina silently laughed from the corner as she saw the two of them trying not to lose their temper. Both of them weren't very patient and were likely to lose it anytime soon, so Edwina decided to intervene.
"Ladies and gentlemen, why don't all of you explore the decorations we've all worked so hard for." She said and gave one of her diamond-of-the-season smiles.
"Thank you, Miss Edwina." Anthony smiled and sighed. "We were two seconds away from being smothered by them. God, why did we even invite so many people?"
"Anthony, many of them weren't there for the wedding as it will be against social etiquette to not invite them to the reception either," Kate said to him sternly.
"Don't thank me," Edwina smiled, "It is my responsibility to make sure that you two aren't driven mad by the ton." The two laughed. Soon, Violet came up to them and the bride and the groom disappeared, leaving Edwina to look for her mother.
"Miss Sharma." Edwina looked to the side and saw the queen coming towards her. She bow down in front of her and said, "Your highness."
"Have you met my nephew?" She said and motioned to the man behind her. He bowed down in front of her. "Miss Sharma."
"This is Prince Friedrich of Prussia." The queen said proudly, looking at the prince with love in her eyes.
Well, with as much love the queen can show.
"Pleased to meet you." The prince said. Edwina smiled. "The pleasure's all mine." She was keeping calm, but she was almost lost in his kind, gentle eyes.
