Do other writers ever get this like, hyper-specific dialogue exchange drop into their brains and you know exactly where these character are standing and what they’re doing and how they’re saying these words but that’s all you get. You don’t have much other context and this specific moment that exists only at this time in your headspace??

haha i love that phrase!! as a native english speaker, to me it means to look at something with intense attention, and because it's a silly word i usually use it for style or humor. a noir detective might eyeball a suspect. the dog is eyeballing my sandwich. i'm eyeballing this spaghetti pot, because if it boils over, it's going to be in Big Trouble.

There's nothing funnier than language.

My little brother is learning English and we had to find other words for 'watch'. Lots of the usual stuff and so on until we came to 'eyeball'. It's literally a synonym for 'watch' and now whenever he wants to say something with 'watch' he turns it into "I'm eyeballing you" or "Hey let's eyeball that" and I am dying every time.

#language is my one true love #i had to look it up to make sure it's actually an english phrase because while i am a native english speaker my father isn't #and a lot of funny phrases we use at home come from incorrect language assumptions he made while learning english
