They’re carved in Starclan! It’s why they smell like the moon-sorta.

The warrior I mentioned that died young gives an idea to the uncle about seeing if Starclan (the two of them) could bless his nephew somehow; and she remembers how she used to carve/whittle spare branches not thick enough to support a den roof.

So the kit is carved out of Starclan wood and likely some clay, and is sorta walked out of the branches of life, and as soon as she crosses the threshold into the living realm, she takes her first breath, the scent of stars and the moon tree heavy on her pelt, before her great uncle places her in the sleeping paws of her father, and she snuggles into him as if knowing his scent already.

This kit has a double blessing for this reason! She has Starclan’s Clouds (vitiligo) and heterochromia, and becomes a medicine cat later in her life and gains an honor/ceremony suffix -moon, but still fulfill her perceived warrior duties all the same

Long down the line I imagine it becomes customary to go to your medicine cat and pray to Starclan for kits if you’re a cis gay couple, or a couple that’s having trouble, or single and wanting to be a parent.

Regardless all kits are valued and loved in the clan, and there’s always someone making sure they know that, regardless of blessing or not :)

Man I would totally nab the "StarClan makes cis gay cat's kids" thing if I hadn't already committed to it being a rule in my rewrite that all kits still have to be born of another cat (with souls being what is crafted based on material that exists)

This is unrelated but a looooong time ago with one of my exes, we had an OC lore world that had these wild nature spirits, and all the kids were born from these cool magic fruit plants.

Whatever your fruit was would theme you through life, and your birth sprout became a tree symbolic of your life force. Like if you got sick, your tree would wither. If you were in love it bloomed
