I love how the show NEVER explained that satyrs age at half the speed as humans, they just dropped the whole "I'm 24" and then moved on! And he's actually pretty mature, so new show watchers think he's actually 24 in human years, when no, he is just a twelve year old who's seen some shit.

you'd think that annabeth starts to turn her back on the idea of the fates and the gods deciding everthing towards the end of ep 5 when she refuses percy's "fate" to die in the chair and instead chooses to try and save him

BUT YOU'D BE WRONG because at the very start of that episode annabeth mfing chase saw the three fates cut a string of life while percy just fell off the literal st louis arch and is nowhere to be found and instead she says HES ALIVE. I KNOW IT. she says fuck the fates fuck everything ive ever been taught because i know he's alive he has to be alive.

and he is. and he is and he is and he is and i think in that moment when annabeth was clinging to a sopping wet percy jackson for dear life she maybe started believing that the fates don't control everything because percy's alive and she found him

and so later when percy's fulfilling the fate's prophecy and sacrificing himself to the chair she says NO. i choose who lives or dies and you are NOT DYING ON ME TODAY SEAWEED BRAIN

a minor detail from the nereid in this scene had me wondering...

who is 'us'?

since it's a nereid speaking, are we to assume the nereid is speaking on behalf of all sea life, of atlantis? by extension, does this mean that the ocean has always been aware of percy?

i mean, at least in part that's a given- in the books, poseidon had cyclops checking in on percy. posiedon really isn't making much of an attempt to keep percy a secret, at least not from his own people/subjects.

it felt like a very interesting addition, this implication the sea is looking out for percy, cares for him in what is suggested to be an equal capacity to that of poseidon- the nereid is quick to make this comparison

already, we're having an emphasis on how poseidon claims to care for percy- which contrasts several other gods we've seen thus far (*cough*athena*cough*), and now we're also getting the suggestion that this sentiment for percy is shared by others of the ocean's domain.

there's always been a shared sense of belonging for percy when it comes to the water- at camp, when he meets the naiads he describes it as feeling like seeing long-lost family, over the books it's suggested percy spends a lot of time helping out sea life with their problems (including getting stuck in traps), and when we see atlantis we understand there's whole other civilisations that exist- with their own politics and bonds. atlantis is no different, an entire species of people, a whole ecosystem and political environment- a society. one that already expresses lament for not being able to involve themselves in percy's life until this point, or interact at all.

percy goes from having his mother, and struggling to ever find a place he belongs, to the possibility there's a whole other civilisation he may belong to, who care for him. imagine how conflicting that will feel.

thinking about the Percy Jackson show that’s being made right now, and as someone who was obsessed with those books for years and then got late-diagnosed with ADHD and a learning disability (Dyscalculia), I really hope that the show actually shows how Percy struggles amongst his peers before coming to camp. I expect that the show will portray the positive aspects of neurodivergence since it’s so tied to all the character’s powers in the books (like Dyslexia being because their brains are hardwired for reading ancient Greek)--and I’m excited about that!--but I would also love to see the struggle that comes with being ND and not ever fully assimilating with NT peers. 

give me a Percy Jackson who gets kicked out of school not just because he acts out or has unexplained incidents with his powers, but who struggles in school and has to repeat a grade or two because his Dyslexia is so bad. A Percy whose teachers don’t believe him when he says he’s really trying because his grades are straight D’s and F’s despite his best efforts. A Percy who is a loyal and eager friend but doesn’t always understand NT communication and doesn’t realize when he takes his sarcasm and joking too far and gets shunned for it. A Percy who, at the tender age of twelve, is totally burnt out because no one knows what to do with him, who has awful self-esteem because he’s been told his whole life that he’s failing, who believes he wasted his potential already, but whose mom is kind and understanding and fiercely defensive of him to the rest of the world because she knows her child is worth so much more than his ability to fit in or get good grades. A Percy who comes to camp and is suddenly surrounded by people just like him, who excels in battle and finds friends who just get him, who slowly relearns who he is and what he’s capable of, learning that his struggles can be strengths sometimes, and finding confidence and acceptance through this community in a way that he’s never had before.

One thing I always take into account about the debate over Nico being isolated/Underworld kids getting discriminated against: Hades is not the only Underworld god with a cabin at CHB. Hecate has one, too. She's the goddess of night, witchcraft, and ghosts. Lou Ellen never appears to be treated the way Nico was, even though Hecate and Alabaster sided with the Titans and Nico and Hades didn't. I'm not sure if that's intentional or just inconsistent writing. She's also one of Will's best friends, which makes it especially weird that so much of TSATS revolved around Will being uncomfortable with the Underworld and Nico's powers, since Nico isn't the only Underworld kid Will is close to.

Anw you're right. I just feel like Hades got the worse deal of the treatment because he represents/ is associated with the Underworld, you know? And Nico, as a result, falls to it too. I mean. If there's a child of Persephone, people would most likely chill with them despite them embracing their mother's queen of the underworld side. 🤔🤔

Jeez no wonder the man's bitter. Should have left Olympus to fall under Kronos' hands...
