I want a romance set during slavery.
I want to see the love that made us. The love that persisted. The love that bloomed when they poured poison on its roots. I want it.
I don't want to see those people. Or hear those words. It can be mentioned.
I'm sick of people disrespecting the lives and legacy of our ancestors. "I am not my ancestors." You got damn right you not. Because you don't have half the heart to do what they did.
We are here right now because even in what was the worst time of their lives, they had the hope and courage to know that that was not going to be the end of their story or their bloodline.
I'm so sick of the love that got us here always being an afterthought to the trauma.

text below the cut
while Her Imperious Condescension's colonial pursuits never falter, She does take breaks.
And when She stops, So do I.
And, on some rare occasions, when the crew leaves the docked ship to visit a space station,
I get to leave with them.
Onboard the station, they take care of me, as ordered.
I can't function well without the wires anymore.
Doesn't matter, I'm always connected to wires these days.
The mechanics dote on me, and I'm often the most intact of the helmsmen docked for maintenance.
Sometimes I wish the crew would be more careless with me, and give me a chance to fade, like the rest of them do.
But, I know that all She will give me are a few, rare, days.
Spent in my small body looking outside, for as long as She will allow. So I go through the motions.

also i am a notable court of owls disliker, but i am always wondering about the differences there would have been if snyder had done it as the dickbats story sequel to gates of gotham he had planned. because i think i remember hearing about him saying something about going into families like the drakes too, and this part in gates of gotham #1 sticks out to me
that's tim mentioning a grandfather in reference to the bridges being called the gates of gotham, as you can see:
tim mentions that the bridges were called the gates as a nickname at the turn of the century, but that his grandfather called them the gates too, which we learn is also a reference to the gates brothers who built the bridges. which to me, kind of seems like the seeds being planted for tim's family through his grandfather to have some kind of insider knowledge of the founding of gotham (i'm assuming the drakes would have been a court of owls family potentially). like this could just be a throwaway line, but giving tim a grandfather like this seems meaningful.
i just...i imagine the dick & tim of it all that we could have had. rolling in the deep here.

no one asked but here's a graphic depiction of the way virtually every romantic relationship in tsc is connected to one another
spanning 200+ years , 74 people and 20+ books. romance is beautiful 💛 tsc fans will tell you they hate a love triangle but girl i think we have bigger things to worry about literally what is this 💛
here's a version without any of the parental/ancestral relationships in an attempt to make it easier to understand but......... well
