The Fellowship and how they would realize their feelings
A/N: I am finally back!! I am so happy to be able to write again and I apologize that you had to wait so long for your request :( omg I never got like a headcanon (??) request and like I am so excited!! Especially cause it's kinda a big group and like I never wrote anything for the hobbits or like for Aragorn or Boromir hihi <33 (Tbh it was like so hard cause I really noticed I don't really know much about their characters or well I don't really know much about them?? idk idk... so some could be a little bit off so I apologize!!) But I still hope you like this!!!
⇢ ˗ˏˋ Warnings: fluff (maybe some ooc behaviour) ࿐ྂ ⇢ ˗ˏˋ Words: 1.3k in total ࿐ྂ ⇢ ˗ˏˋ Request: Yes (thank you <33) ࿐ྂ
Tumblr media
Aragorn:
I think he would notice his growing feelings for you rather quickly. He would probably notice this after watching you argue with passion about some kind of topic with another person. The way you stand behind your opinion and fight for the things you love and adore. The passion that lines every single word that passes your lips. The way your eyebrow raises at your opponent and their silly sentences, that absolutely make no sense to you. Honestly, I doubt that much changes from his behaviour because he already is a caring person. Maybe his hand would sometimes hold onto your hand to make sure you know that he stands behind you and your decisions. Maybe he also tends to polish your weapons for you and maybe he also prepares a few arrows for you if you decide to use a bow. And maybe, just maybe he shows you a few tips and tricks with the sword in order to make sure that nothing could harm you. Because he knows, that you can handle yourself in any kind of fight. But practice still helps to ensure your safety, especially in the case that the both of you get separated.
Tumblr media
Legolas:
Like Aragorn, he would catch onto his growing fondness for you rather quickly. He probably would notice his feelings after catching you being so incredibly sweet and kind towards one of the hobbits. The way you immediately tried to help Frodo through his doubts. How you tried to cheer him up by telling him that he will make it. That all of you will make it and finish the quest at hand. You always try your hardest to brighten everyone’s day with your positivity and your cheerfulness. Legolas couldn’t do anything else than fall for you head over heels. The warmth that you always spread around captured him and his heart. He would probably (definitely) ask to braid your hair (in case you are totally unaware of the custom behind it). But he would probably also try being constantly close to you. Not in a clingy way. Well, more like a moth that was drawn to a flame. (Maybe a tiny bit in a clingy way). And oh as soon as the quest is over he will try to find any kind of artistic measure to capture your heart with.
Tumblr media
Gimli:
Listen, he definitely takes a while to realize his feelings. But he would totally notice some kind of admiration after you beat him in battle. The way you just jump from one enemy to another and rip them apart. Your strength and the way you just push through them with ease. (He still will huff after you declare that you definitely killed more enemies than he did). He would also try his best to deny his feelings and try to act indifferently or like ‘he doesn’t care’ (Even though he definitely cares). He would definitely clean your weapons and sharpen them for you. After returning home he will forge an axe or sword for you. Maybe even a courting bead if the time has come for him to stop battling his feelings and just face them.
Tumblr media
Boromir:
I think he would take a little while to notice his feelings towards you. Probably due to the fact that he mostly is being occupied by the power of the ring or maybe due to the pressure of the quest that lays heavily on his shoulder. He knows it is an important journey. So his heart did stutter after you reassured him with your kind words. The way you spoke with him and the way you just would listen to his worries. It felt like you really cared for him and his wellbeing and he really just needed someone to talk to. Someone who was willing to listen to him (especially because I feel that some people tend to misunderstand him). And you just happen to really want to listen to his worries and try to push him through it. Try to show him that you would be by his side while he follows the path of the journey. After he realized his feelings for you he would definitely try his best to take care of you the way you did for him. He would support your decisions and if you happen to have a bad day he would stand by your side and listen to your worries and just do the same things you did for him. Care for you and give you the support you need.
Tumblr media
Sam:
Oh he would totally catch onto his feelings quickly. Probably after receiving your praise for how well he had prepared dinner that night. The way your eyes lit up at the first taste of the soup and how you hummed in approval at the flavour. He definitely would blush and smile dumbly while stirring the pot (definitely lost in the thought of your beautiful smile). He definitely would be more fidgety and bashful around you. He would probably also share some of his portions of food with you (In case you are hungry or you already finished your food for the trip). And maybe he would give you just a little bit more food if he was the one preparing the food (either for breakfast or dinner or the portions for travelling idk idk). (And maybe just maybe he would carefully prepare like a cute flower crown or smth for you.)
Tumblr media
Frodo:
His feelings for you were definitely the last thing on his mind. He would definitely notice them however, after you carefully hold him close to you after another one of his nightmares he had. Gently stroking his hair while holding him towards your chest, mumbling to him that everything will be alright. He didn’t even notice the way he had clung onto you. But you didn’t mind that. All that you wanted to do was reassure him and try to give him the strength he needs to push through this. His heart filled with warmth at your kindness and at the support you lend him. Every time when he struggles, he just looks at you and he immediately feels better. He will definitely try to reassure your worries and try to be there for you the way you always seem to be there for him.
Tumblr media
Merry:
I think he would be a little like Pippin when it comes to the realization of his feelings. Like, he would definitely not notice his feelings at first, but after you did protect him from a few Orcs, he couldn’t help but admire you. He wanted to get stronger (and maybe protect you too yk?) So he will definitely learn a few sword fighting skills from Boromir and Aragorn, but he will mostly try to practice with you. To understand the way you swing your sword and to understand the fighting tactics you use. (He also just wanted to spend more time with you) And maybe just maybe when the time has come, he will raise his sword against an Orc and protect you.
Tumblr media
Pippin:
Oh he would definitely take his time realizing his feelings. But he does realize them, after he notices that you seem to be one of the only people who was not completely mad at him for his constant clumsiness. Yes, he made mistakes. But that is normal, isn’t it? Everyone makes mistakes and you try to explain that to him. The way you try to make him understand that even Gandalf or Aragorn took wrong turns in their lives made him feel a little bit better. You would explain to him that mistakes need to happen in order for him to grow as a person. Nobody is perfect, is what you told him with a beaming smile. But he couldn’t believe your words if you sat in front of him and just existed. He would definitely try and make you laugh as much as possible. Especially if the days or nights are rough and maybe everything is grey, he definitely still will try to brighten your day with either very silly harmless jokes or pranks.

i was inspired by @allysunny 's fic where miguel watches snow white and i loved it so much its literally so wholesome. GO READ IT.
and after that i watched a lotr fanart reel with the evenstar theme and i began to wonder how mig would like Lord of the Rings. cuz he has to if the relationship is going to work im sorry-
So here's the product of my labour lmfao im doing the first movie only because this would be way too long if it was all three
MIGUEL WATCHES LOTR(extended edition ofc)
-I feel like he'd come across you either looking at fanart or edits of the characters and be intrigued.
-"what's that, tesoro?" nosy mf he'd smush onto your shoulder from behind, your hair ticking his nose lightly.
"it's lord of the rings, babe. how have you-"
and you realise mans is from 2099 how tf is he going to know what lord of the rings is.
and thats how you end up sitting in front of the tv at 8am in the morning with tea and breakfast and the shire theme playing from the tv.
-"They're dwarves?" Miguel asks when he sees Frodo next to Gandalf
"No, they're Hobbits."
"But Hobbits are basically dwarves?"
"Nope, different race, honey." you kiss his cheek as his eyes squint in confusion.
=Merry and Pip remind him of ahem certain spider people
-He gasps when Bilbo disappears and is like wtf when he sees him reappear and have a meltdown over the ring.
-He gasps AGAIN when you tell him that gandalf actually left frodo in the shire for 17 years and not like a few hours or days
-gets annoyed at merry and pippin AGAIN
-fucking loves samwise but thinks he needs a bit more spine(give him a chance wait till the end of the series)
-he will raise an eyebrow at you trying to stop your squeal when looking at the first glimpse of this strider and his pipe.
-i feel like the nazgul would freak him out(just a little but its the horses)
-THE HORSES i feel like he wont give af honestly about them because he can co exist with widow on the team but since he has the phobia he wouldnt fawn over them(not me pssh i love the pretty horsies)
-absolutely thinks frodo is going to die when hes stabbed by the nazgul
-his eyes widen when arwen our queen rides in and you squeal again
-he admires arwen and her abilities, that scene with the river and the nazgul makes his jawdrop.
-"tesoro i like this movie." "slut" "im YOUR slut" *mwah*
-he loves the rivendell and the set design is honestly breathtaking he gets so into it
-arwen and aragorn are adorable and he holds you tighter when the flashback scene between them is shown
-you clap when you see legolas ride in and he sideeyes you yet AGAIN
-sees the appeal tbh
-he loves that you're so passionate about something and want to share it with him and he sees it as an honour that you're willing to do this, spend an entire day watching a movie series with him its baffling to him
-you on the other hand get worried that he finds it boring but then when he gets into it youre ecstatic that he likes it too and you both can enjoy something thats so close to your heart.
-it can be hard to relate to someone who's so different from you, like mans is spiderman, a geneticist, leads an elite strike dedicated to the multiverse-
-but you both gel in a lot of ways (which is why dude loves you and would die for you and kill for you either way what bliss)despite leading such different lives and now there's one more thing you can bond over and it fills you with happiness and you have to snuggle into him and he holds you tighter in response, smooching the top of your head
-absolutely despises boromir at first(it changes)
-thinks elrond is bossy asf(look whos talking babe)
-he gets worked up when boromir starts coveting the ring and is like he should die
-sniffs when the man actually dies in such a heroic way
-i think he has to cover his mouth when aragorn finds boromir and kisses his forehead because its such an emotional scene and this man has gone through such loss and probably similar things in his own battlefield except he wishes he could have given his teammates better goodbyes.
-when the movie ends yk the way it does he immediately puts on the next one.
-"babe wait i have to pee!" "pee fast then and come back!" *pats your ass as you walk past him and you try to swat him because that doesnt help after holding in your pee for like 3 damn hours
-he really likes it and he loved experiencing it with you, listening to your commentary sometimes, rolling his eyes lovingly when you grin at aragorn or legolas or sam or arwen, but he loved it even more because it was a piece of you that was bared to him and he accepted it and loved it too because it was YOU
-and because its a legendary piece of art.

___________________________________________________________
We continued for the next day and a half until we finally reached the borders of Weathertop or as it is known to some the great watchtower of Amon Sul.  I flew back down towards Aragorn and he extended his gloved hand to me and I landed on his forearm and let out some squawks and trills telling him I found where we could rest for the night.
“Well done White Wing.” He said as he gave me a gentle scratch on top of my head.
“What did she say?” asked Merry.
“There’s a place just ahead where we can make camp tonight.”
“Thank goodness, I thought we’d be walking all night too.” Pippin sighed with relief.
“Just how far is this place Strider?” Sam asked him.
“Not far Master Gamgee. White Wing will guide us there.” I let out a shriek and took off flying over the four hobbits squawking and trilling before flying on ahead.
Over the hills and clifftops and soon within the hour just before sunset, we arrived at Amon Sol.  I flew back towards Aragorn and landed on his shoulder as he told the Hobbits.
“This was the great Watchtower of Amon Sul. We shall rest here tonight.” The four hobbits looked up at the tower and Merry said.
“So….we make camp at the foot of this tower?”
“I’m afraid not. Higher ground will give us the upper hand in case the Nazgul are still following us.” At that statement from Aragorn, all four of the Hobbit’s face grew grim and scrunched up at just how much they were going to have to scale up.  “Come, if we are to get to the top before dark.”
“And I thought trees would be the tallest thing I would climb.” Merry grumbled.
“I don’t think I’ll ever scale up a tree again after this.” Pippin agreed.
“He’s right though. We don’t have much choice.” Frodo told them.  Without another (at least verbally loud) complaint, the five of them walked up the tower staircase whilst I flew up ahead and surveyed the top of the tower just to make sure no threats could be found.
Midway up the tower along the side edge, the Hobbits dropped their packs and lay there on their backs exhausted from the long travels we had without any rest.  I flew back over to Aragorn and landed on his forearm scanning the area.
“Are we safe?” he whispered to me in Elvish.  For now I squawked out to him.  He then set me down on one of the large rocks and as I preened my feathers, Aragorn set down a tarp to reveal four Hobbit-sized swords (which were really Elvish daggers).  “These are for you. Keep them close. White Wing and I are going to have a look around.”
As he spoke, he handed each hobbit a sword (which brought back memories of when Bilbo first got his sword Sting at the Troll cave).  He extended his arm out and I flew to him and flapped my wings frantically.
“Stay here.” He told them firmly as they looked or admired their newly gifted swords.  He then walked off leaving the four Hobbits alone on the watchtower whilst we surveyed the area some more.
I looked up at the sky to see the dark, ominous black clouds blocking the sunset.  That alone made a shiver go through my body as my feathers ruffled anxiously.
“I know my friend, this dark fog has me uneasy as well.” He said as he gently stroked my wing.  “But I’ll need your eyes to scout ahead. See if the Wraiths have caught up to us, or if anything worse comes our way. Find me once you’ve found it.” I nodded and let out a couple of trills and a squawk.  “Yes, yes I too will be careful.”
He gave me a gently scratch under my chin before extending his arm out and I took off flying into the dark fog letting out a proud call.
As the sky grew dark and nightfall came upon the land of Middle Earth I soared through the skies keeping a sharp eye out for any signs of the Wraiths, Orcs, goblins or spies of Sauron.  But then my eye caught signs of a light in the North, right where Weathertop was.  I quickly flew towards it and my heart sunk.
Curse the Hobbits and their troublesome stomachs! They had lit a fire signaling our location.  And if that wasn’t bad enough, the piercing sound of the Nazgul’s cries sent my body into a frantic frenzy.  I took off to find Aragorn as quickly as I could squawking and trilling out in a warning call.
When I finally came across him I flew around him in a panicked manner squawking and crying out.
“White wing! White Wing cease your panic and calm down!” he extended his arm out and I landed on it before telling him what I saw and heard. “They what!? I knew I had heard them but I didn’t think they would find them this fast! If you ever return back to normal, I suggest you give those Hobbits a stern talking to about their eating schedule.”
Oh I will! I get that Hobbits must eat 7 times a day but there is a time and a place where a campfire is needed to prepare food.  I just hope we’re not too late! We then took off running back towards the Watchtower.
Aragorn along the way grabbed himself a torch and preparing it as well as drawing out his sword.  We scaled the Watchtower with haste and that’s when my ears heard the sound of Frodo screaming in pure agony.  I flew on ahead and was horrified at what I saw before me.
Frodo was down on the ground with the One Ring on his finger, the Witch-king Angmar standing over him had stabbed Frodo in the shoulder with his most dangerous weapon, a Morgul Blade!
I let out a shriek and flew right at Angmar.  And even with the fear that he is known to eminent off of his very being to whomever dares challenge him, I swallowed that fear and tackled him face on.  My wings flapping frantically beating his face and my talons scarring his ghostly mouth and hallowed cheekbones.
Soon my backup arrived with Aragorn coming in with a battle cry waving the flaming torch as well as his sword at the four remaining Nazgul. I was then grabbed by Angmar in his fist and I frantically cried out to which Aragorn rescued me by waving the torch right up Angmar’s robes, setting him ablaze.
The second his grip loosened I flew out of his hand and flew off to handle the other remaining Nazgul.  As Aragorn was fighting off against one of them, another was coming up behind him, sword raised high.  I let out a cry and flew downward and stopped the sword with my talons and redirected his blade at another Nazgul, the two of them starting to fight each other till I swooped in grabbing the hoods of their robes and pulling as hard as I could till they both fell over the tower.
Frodo, who was now visible having taken the Ring off his finger, looked deathly pale and cold as Sam stood over him protectively along with Merry and Pippin watching Aragorn and I handle the remaining Wraiths.  I knew exactly what Frodo was going through, the dark poison slipping through his very body and what he was probably seeing for I too have seen it when Sauron tried to possess me so long ago.
I took notice of one Wraith trying to sneak away but I flew towards it and kept swooping down at it frantically calling out to Aragorn who threw his torch right at the Nazgul’s hooded face setting him ablaze, retreating and screeching like a coward.
I flew back towards Frodo letting out a couple of worried squawks and cries as Sam called out to Aragorn.
“Strider! Help him Strider!” I looked down at the Morgul blade and flew beside it.  Even though it still sent shivers up my body, it didn’t give me as much fear like it did before.  Aragorn looked down at me and he picked it up informing the Hobbits just how injured Frodo truly was and that it wasn’t gonna be something Aragorn could do.
“He’s been stabbed by a Morgul Blade.” The blade disintegrated into dust leaving only the hilt as Frodo continued to cry in utter agony. “This is beyond my skill to heal. He needs Elvish medicine.” He picked Frodo over his shoulder who groaned in pain and we quickly scaled down the Tower.
Walking down a familiar trail Aragorn led ahead of us holding another torch telling the Hobbits to hurry as the sounds of the Nazgul pierced the night sky.
“We’re six days from Rivendell. He’ll never make it!” Sam said in a panic.  I looked up to the Moon and back to Aragorn and quickly flew to him and told him where they could briefly rest and where to potentially find some Athelas to slow the poison that ran through Frodo’s body.
“You sure they’ll be some there?” I let out a couple of squawks and said.  “Very well. I’ll get them there. Scout ahead to see just how close they are.” He told me. I took off flying however I wouldn’t be scouting ahead, but seeking council and to transform myself back into my normal body once more.
I managed to find the troll cave where I found Thena’s power and where Thorin and Bilbo got their swords after our encounter with the three trolls.  I look up to the moon and closed my eyes reaching out to Cain.
‘Brother Cain, brother Cain. Can you hear me?’ the moonbeams shined down upon me and his voice replied to me.
‘You wish to return to your normal body to save the Ringbearer Frodo Baggins.’
‘Yes. Please Cain Frodo is my dearest friend, the nephew of the first Hobbit I’ve ever come to know. I promised Bilbo I would keep an eye on him, I—I cannot lose him the way I was nearly lost.’
‘You know what this will mean don’t you? Once you turn back to your Celestial form, there is no hiding from Sauron anymore. His forces will hunt you down, much like they will the Ring. And the lost King of Gondor.’
‘I know the risk brother. But I’m done hiding from him. If Sauron wants me, he’ll have to kill me in order to obtain my body and powers. Because I’m done being afraid of him.’ I heard him sigh and he said.
‘Ikaris definitely gave you his stubbornness. But it is also your motherly heart for the Hobbits that drives you to this decision. Very well, I shall return you to your true self once more.’ My body went laxed with relief and I soon felt the same magic that was used to turn me into a hawk, surround me once more.
I was lifted high into the sky as I recalled my human form. My skin color, the length and color of my hair, my eyes, everything about me as I felt my body began to shift and grow once more.  The cracks of my bones and the expansion of my organs made me groan out in pain until I finally let out one last bird shriek which turned into a woman’s scream before I was slowly let down onto the ground.
Panting and feeling weak I looked down at myself to see that I was truly back.  Ten fingers, human skin, no feathers, wiggling my ten toes within my boots instead of talon claws.  A soft nose instead of a sharp beak and soft (though probably untamed and wild) hair. Dark brown hair with the two white streaks the framed both sides of my face.
I reached up to make sure and I sighed with relief to feel that both Fili and Kili’s familial braids they gave me were still intact. Slowly I raised myself onto my feet but it took a bit to regain my balance and Cain told me.
‘It’ll take you time to adjust being in your human body once more.’
“Thank you, brother.” My voice croaked out after not using it for over 17 years.
‘Five Wraiths are right behind you. The other four are biding their time in the shadows waiting for the five to bring you to them. Your only hope is to go through along the Hidden Valley trail and then enter Rivendell by the river.’
“I’ll get Frodo there with Makkari’s speed.”
‘Be sure to tell Aragorn that his Lúthien is searching for them. She can guide them the rest of the way there.’ I smiled and said.
“I’ll tell him. They’ll be in good hands with Arwen. Thank you again brother Cain.”
‘Just be safe little sister. As I said it’ll take time for your body to adjust. Which means using the Sound Celestial’s speed could prove fatal if you’re not careful.’
“I know. But I’ve got to try. As I said; I made a promise to a friend to keep his nephew out of harm’s way. And you know that I will see to a promise through and through.”
‘That I do.’ Cain’s voice spoke and I know there was a smile to the way he said it. ‘Good luck Hela.’ He said before our connection was broken.
I took the first step and much like a newborn fawn, I stumbled around a bit till I found my footing and I went off to search for Aragorn and the others.  Pretty soon the light from Aragorn’s torch as his body was crouched down to the ground was within my vision.  Lightly smirking and taking out a small dagger I kept hidden within my boot I silently stalked up to Aragorn and placed the dagger right at his neck.  He froze and I felt his body tense as I told him.
“Really Strider? Have I taught you no better than to never let your enemy see you in the shadows?” he turned towards me and when he saw that I was back to normal he softly spoke my name.  To which I gave him a smirk and I took the dagger away from his neck and pocketed back in my boot.
“You have returned to your true self.” He said to me.  I nodded.
“I’ll need them back Aragorn.” He breathed out through his nose and took out a small sack hidden within his belt and handed it to me. I untied the sack and inside of it were the Celestial gems.
I knelt down and dumped them to the ground and one by one I placed them back into each slot along my gauntlets leaving only one slot remaining blank.
“I knew I could trust you with them.” I said.
“The voice that came to me in a dream the night before I met you as a hawk told me where to find them. But never did I think I’d be worthy to be the keeper of them till the time came.”
“Most wouldn’t be. But I know you Strider, I know you would never use these gems for evil purposes.” I cupped the side of his face and his eyes closed as his face leaned up against my palm.  “Now come, we have a Hobbit to save. Gather up the Athelas and I’ll see if I can’t call Frodo back from the Shadow world.”
He nodded and I took off back towards the stoned trolls where I along with Bilbo and the Company were nearly cooked for dinner.
*3rd Person POV*
In his weakened state Frodo lay there cold, sweating and feeling his very soul being pulled into darkness.  However that all changed for a brief moment when a powerful light came from his right.  A light so powerful and golden it was like he was looking at the sun itself.
A female figure slowly walked towards him and as the light briefly toned down he saw the familiar face of Hela walking towards him.
“Frodo.” She softly called to him.  “It is I, Hela. I’ve come to help you.” She spoke in her Celestial tongue.  “Listen to my voice, come back to the light.” Weakly Frodo turned his gaze away, his eyes shutting as he continued to softly wheeze and gasp for air.
“Is that…..” Merry started.  It was at that moment Aragorn came beside Hela and tore some of the Athelas off the plant and quickly began to chew it up, while Hela hovered her hand over Frodo’s injured shoulder with one hand and cupped his face with the other, softly calling his name.
“It’s lady Hela.” Sam answered in awe.  Hela shook her head gravely and said.
“He’s fading fast.” Hela pushed aside some of the clothing to reveal the wound from the Morgul blade on Frodo’s shoulder.  As Aragorn placed the Athelas on the wound she continued, “He won’t last long with how fast the poison’s spreading through his body.” Frodo let out a choked gasp.  “I need to get him to Lord Elrond as fast as I can.”
She picked Frodo up carefully in his arms.  She placed a soft kiss to the side of his head and said.
“Makkari’s speed is the only chance he’s got.” She looked down at the gauntlet and the red gem shined brightly and soon her normal Celestial attire shifted to her sister Makkari’s Celestial uniform.
“Hela you’re not going by yourself are you?” Merry asked her worriedly.  However with Makkari’s power, she did not hear the young Hobbit’s concern.  She turned to Aragorn and signed to him.
‘There are five Wraiths behind us. The other four are bidding their time, they plan to close us in and kill us off one by one. Arwen is out there looking for us, she’ll guide you the rest of the way to Rivendell while I draw the Nazgul away from you.’
‘You’ve only just came back as a human. Are you certain you can keep up your sister’s speed?’ Aragorn signed back as well as whispering faintly to her.
‘At this point we cannot argue. I’m the only chance Frodo’s got now.’
‘But it is not just him they’re hunting. And you cannot hear them coming.’ Aragorn signed, his eyes pleading with worry.
“What are they doing?” asked Pippin.
‘Frodo’s dying, if I can make it to the river’s path. The power of Elrond will protect us.’ Aragorn looked away but Hela cupped his cheek in her hand. Her eyes burning with a fierce and burning desire to protect Frodo and ensure he got to Rivendell by any means necessary.  ‘I’m done running from them.’
Aragorn took her hand in his and softly said to her.
“As you wish.” Hela softly smiled and pressed her forehead against Aragorn’s before the two of them separated.
As Hela covered Frodo’s head with his hood and adjusted him comfortably in her arms, a hand gently gripped her shoulders and Aragorn signed as well as whispered to her.
“Hela, run hard. Do not let them deter you.” She nodded then gripping the back of Frodo’s head and neck, she took off running leaving behind the Celestial light-stream that came with the Sound Celestials.
“What are you doing? Those Wraiths are still out there!” Sam exclaimed.  Aragorn took in a deep breath before telling them.
“You all trust Hela, don’t you?” the hobbits all nodded. “Then trust that Frodo is in the safest hands possible. Hela will see to it that Frodo gets to Rivendell, her power is strong. In fact stronger than it’s ever been.”
“But how did she get to us so fast? Or know that we’d be here actually?” Pippin asked.
“She’s a Celestial Pip, they know all and see all.” Merry lectured him.
“You fools don’t you get it, she was the hawk the whole time!” Sam snapped.  Merry’s and Pippin’s eyes went wide at Sam’s accusation before turning to Aragorn who merely looked at them with a ‘think carefully’ look.
“You are indeed clever as she’s told me Master Gamgee. Now come, we haven’t much time. Though she’s taken off with Frodo, the remaining Wraiths could still be lurking in the shadows.” Aragorn then guided the four hobbits and the pony onward to find Arwen (who would soon meet them halfway out of the forest by morning).
*My POV*
As swift as a wild horse and with the speed of a shooting star, I ran through the very fields where Radagast and I handled the orc pack so that Thorin and his company along with Gandalf and Bilbo could escape to the Hidden valley entrance of Rivendell.
However this time I was heading for the rivers that surrounded the borders of the realm of Elrond.  Keeping Frodo close to my chest and my hand holding his head so that he wouldn’t get whiplash, the trees and fields passed by me in a blur.  But as we came through a thicket, I saw the dark shadows of the Nazgul starting to close in on me.
First it was just one to my left but on my right, two more came out from the thick trees.  But what I was shocked to see was that the Wraiths were actually keeping up with my speed. Their horses huffing and snarling as their hooves stamped deep into the earth to try and catch me.
I took a brief look behind me and soon saw that the rest of the Nazgul were coming right from behind me, their horses foaming at the mouth and I knew their piercing screeches were echoing throughout the fields.
Unaware of my surrounding and seeing the overwhelming feet of all nine Nazgul tailing close behind me, I had ran straight through one of the trees knocking it completely over and ended up rolling over a couple of times.  I kept Frodo close to my body shielding him from harm as I quickly regained my footing and sped off once more before one of the Nine could grab us.
They continued to pursue us and coming closer and closer, trying to surround me from all sides like a pack of rabid wolves.  And that was just the case now.  All nine had me completely surrounded, even one Nazgul kept pace right in front of me to close Frodo and I in the circle.  It was then I noticed Angmar extend his hand out towards Frodo who rested against my chest.
In desperation and in fear, I let out a scream that Makkari was known to use that no other Sound Celestial could do.  A scream so powerful and so loud, it shakes the very earth at her feet and could have the power to take down even the mightiest of beasts, she called it her Sonic-Scream.
The Nazgul and their black horses fell back or were pushed forward by the shirr wind-force of the scream which gave me time to run with a sonic boom for good measure to ensure a good distance between us and them. I wove and skidded across another thick forest but the Nazgul were quick to adapt (as mentioned before they are neither living or dead. Though they can be knocked out by such a force, they can get back up just as quickly).
I wove around the trees, skid underneath large logs and even underneath the very stomachs of their black horses.  I leapt over one log and kept running until I could feel the wetness of the river at Makkari’s boots.
I slowed down and once I was on the other side of the river, I turned and faced the Nazgul and quickly shifted into Thena’s Celestial armor. Once they reached the river’s edge, their horses reared back snarling and going mad, while the Nine themselves screeched in agony, sensing the powerful magic that protected and surrounded the borders of Imladris.
The black horses stamped their hooves and shook their heads madly, rabid slobber coming out of their lips as the Nazgul looked at me through their cloaked hoods.
“Surrender yourselves, Celestial of Death.” Angmar hissed. Using Thena’s magic I conjured up a sword and challenged the Witch King.
“If you want us, come and claim us!” at that challenge, the nine withdrew their swords and held them high up crowding together to try and intimidate me.  Then they slowly charged forward and I looked around at the water before chanting out the spell Lord Elrond taught me so long ago that would raise the waters and wash away all evil.
Nîn o Chithaeglir
lasto beth daer;
Rimmo nîn Bruinen
dan in Ulaer!
Nîn o Chithaeglir
lasto beth daer;
Rimmo nîn Bruinen
dan in Ulaer!
I heard and felt the water slowly raise from my boots to my ankles and once I was done, the sound of a thundering tidal wave came charging forward.  The Nine and myself looked over and I smirked as I backed away from the water’s of the river while the Nine tried to flee.
As the wave rolled in fast and fast, the image of great Horses soon began to take shape within the waves until finally they rose high over the Ringwraiths’ bodies and with a final screech, all nine of them were drowned by the rushing waters.  Unable to escape or flee from its raging current.
A soft grunt and a firm nod I knew they were finished (for now at least).  But that’s when I heard the weak groans and faint gasps from my arms.  My heartbeat quickened as I gently set Frodo down, his eyes that were once filled with light and wonder, were now void of any life and growing dark.
“Frodo, no! Frodo dear don’t give in! Not now please!” I pleaded as I shook his shoulder.  He looked up at me with a blank stare as his body finally went limp.  “No, no, no, no.” I picked up the young Hobbit and held him in my arms.
A single tear fell from my eyes as I prayed to myself and held my hand over his injured shoulder.
‘By the grace of the Celestial Prime. By the healing touch of all Celestials of Life. Let your power pass to him. Let him be spared from the Shadows, bring him back to the Light.’ He shoulder glowed and I quickly morphed back into Makkari’s uniform and arrived at Rivendell without any further hesitation.
Already Lord Elrond was expecting me and once he saw me, he ordered me to bring him to the healing wings.  Together the two of us worked together to bring Frodo back to the light.
“Lasto beth nîn, tolo dan nan galad.” Lord Elrond would call out to Frodo softly every now and then.
It took about 2 days but finally Frodo was beginning to mend. His spirit had been spared and now all he needed was some rest.  When Elrond gave me the good news, I took his hands and thanked him.
“Thank you my Lord Elrond. Bless you, bless you.”
“I do not deserve all the credit. Had you not been willing to bring him here he would’ve been beyond our aid. And it would seem the skill of the Celestial Prime’s gem also helped bring him back into the light.” He told me.
“Still I cannot thank you enough for what you did for Frodo. I-I would not have the heart to tell Bilbo if we failed him.”
“It would seem you and Gandalf both have seen the resilience and strength Hobbits have.” He said as he placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. “Take some rest. You have run swiftly and hard, not to mention after being a hawk for almost 20 years.”
“Thank you mellon nín.” I said with a bow and he gave me a soft nod acknowledging my praise and gratitude.

okay this is pretty random, but did you read / watch lotr? that post you reblogged about it being post-apocalyptic just stopped me dead in my tracks, i’m wondering if i should read / watch if after all these years haha i was pretty damn young the first time i watched the films and i haven’t read the books…
Aight so I grew up watching the movies, I came to the books much later. I actually started by reading the Hobbit and then watched the movies with my friends. I actually never finished reading any of the books til I took a 22 hour road trip and my buddy Will had library copies of the audio books.
I'm not actually the biggest fan of how Tolkien does fantasy, tbh. I was just discussing with @pigeontheoneandonly the other day how betrayed I felt discovering that their names were not Frodo and Sam, but that was his attempt at translating these languages into English for us. Not to butt heads with the big Tolkien fanboys out there, I do admire all the thought that went into his worldbuilding. But let's get my own struggles with reading Tolkien out of the way right now.
I don't know if I'd recommend reading the books. They are, by design, plodding and character driven. Plot happens at the speed of Hobbits crossing the mountains on foot. What I can and always will give the books is you get more of that sweet, juicy party interaction, and several of the more minor characters in the movies had their due from the novel stripped from them for expediency of story telling. Theoden got to steal Eomer's greatest speech from the novels, for example, and as my memory serves you get more of Faramir as well.
What I can tell you is that, in no small part because of Tolkien's work, most modern fantasy exists in a period of world thinning. Magic is draining from Middle Earth as the Elves leave, and as ages pass knowledge is lost. This sets the tone for most modern fantasy really, from popculture works like H*rry P*tter to Phillip Pullman's homage to Milton's Paradise Lost in the His Dark Materials Trilogy. Game of Thrones exists in a world were magic is scarce and Dragons are few and far between, same with Paloni's Eragon. More recently the Shania Chronicles does this too. Dragon Age is another great example: the Orlesian Empire and Tevinter Imperium are shrinking, and while that may be a good thing for humanitarian reasons we no longer live in the age of Andraste, where the maker intervened directly in mortal affairs.
Funnily enough, even eastern fantasy pulls from this. Think Neon Genesis Evangelion (sci-fi not fantasy, but what is sci-fi but fantasy reskinned?) or Princess Mononoke/Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind. Truth be told, most fantasy authors use world thinning to make clear the stakes.
World thinning is also a great excuse for readers/characters to discover great archeological works. Places like the Great Pyramid, or Stone Henge, Machu Pichu, they leave us awestruck because it is unclear to us how such amazing things were accomplished. This sense of wonder, and at the ache for peoples and genius lost, is at the core of the fantasy genre.
In all seriousness, I'd encourage you to re-read/re-watch any fantasy and look for those moments. Many if not all of the best Fantasy stories will have this buried in the subtext. It plays on a very human nostalgia.

Frodo would spare Saruman’s life for no reason other than “he was good once” and that is very Christian of him

If Faramir went to Rivendell, how would the whole ttt/rohan plot be different?
A good question that I have spent an unreasonable time thinking about! My first LOTR fic was going to be an attempt to answer this, but then I got so wrapped up in not having the answers that I sidelined it and wrote WC instead. So I think instead of giving you one definitive answer I’ll give you a couple scenarios I think are plausible? If that’s not too much of a cop out lmao? Apologies in advance for the inevitable spelling errors, I did this on my phone and my dyslexia is off the charts today.
I think it’s basically unavoidable that he goes via Rohan first, geographically he’s sort of left without an option there. When he’s there, we get into this issue of whether and how he and Éowyn interact. Worth noting, I think, that the Unfinished Tales has Éomer living in Aldburg by the War, but Éomer does seem to imply he’s around for Boromir passing through. Is this because he knows and already is a fan of Boromir? Maybe! Or maybe Éomer goes to Aldburg after.
But I digress. We have to ask the question of whether Faramir falls in love with Éowyn because he was always going to fall in love with Éowyn, or if it’s because the things he’s gone through immediately preceding it primed him for it. I perhaps quite cheaply — come down on the side of Faramir always having it bad for her on first sight. And contextually I think that comes from his, rather sweet, enunciation of the way his regard/love changes for her. He says that at first he pities her, and then he gets to know her and he doesn’t pity her anymore, he respects and admires her. That’s an interesting dynamic to bring into play in basically every AU, because you get this double barrel characterisation of his attitude to her changing, and his own character maturing/sharp edges softening.
I think he off the bat he sees that she’s beautiful, and immediately is drawn to her for that. Shallow? Maybe! But, to badly paraphrase my ol fav Victor Hugo quote — love always begins with a glance.
I imagine he stays for a short while, maybe a week, two at most. At this point I think that Éowyn’s basically viewing him as an official guest that she has to entertain, and I think Faramir is, in his own, slightly stilted, slightly wanky way, putting the moves on her. This can go, imo, one of two ways. She can either be receptive to it (which is a nice thought!) or she can be aware of it but mostly ignore it because, really, she’s got lots of shit on her plate.
Either way, he leaves Edoras at some point. The big question is where does his go from there?
One thing I toy around with is that, given his pre-existing relationship to Gandalf, maybe he’s willing to trust the Istari a bit more and goes straight for Isengard? Which, and I think I did the math on this once a few months ago, would have him arriving at Isengard around the time Gandalf’s getting his shit kicked in by Saruman lol. I think this could be a really compelling plot point, but I’ll be very honest with you, I 100% don’t have the imagination or writing skills to figure out how it proceeds from there, so I’m not going to try to.
If he goes the normal Boromir route, he still loses his horse at Tharbad and walks (lmao jesus???) to Rivendell. When he gets there, I think he’s immediately going to have everything he knows put to the test in quite jarring ways. First off, he’s going to be infinitely more deferential to Elrond, Aragorn &c when they’re trashing Gondor. He’ll push back a bit, no doubt on that, but he’s going to be starstruck by Aragorn in a way that Boromir just wasn’t.
No real difference I imagine between Rivendell and Lothlórien, except that he’d definitely be laser focused on palling about with Aragorn, and he’d probably spend more of his time being friendly with Frodo than with Merry and Pippin tbh (not in a douchey way, I just think he and Frodo vibe a little better. Though I bet he and Merry had some interesting chats about pipe weed history).
The underlying question here is what sort of relationship does he have to the ring? I don’t buy this idea that he’s not tempted by it, I just think that what the ring offers him is a bit shit. We don’t know what the ring tempts him with, he’s not clear on that in TTT. I can’t really see the ring being like ‘oh I’ll give you a king to follow’ because that is some intensely nerdy shit, but is somehow the one thing I could see Faramir actually being tempted by. Regardless of what it offers him in this AU, he resists it on the basis that he’s got this mythical king he’s been desperate for, and he’s not gonna risk that for anything.
Lothlórien comes next, and oh my god when I tell you this is the part I genuinely have no answer for. I stopped writing my first fic at Lothlórien because I couldn’t cope. Tbh it probably lowkey fries Faramir’s brain, and for so many reasons. The whole godmoding Númenórean stuff he’s got going on probably interests Galadriel a bit, and so that whole conversation is going to be wildly different than it was for Boromir. But what does she say to Faramir? I have no idea. I really don’t. There’s also probably a million and one things also going on psychologically for him at that point, which makes dealing with this bit difficult. Really difficult. So I’m gonna, uh, conveniently smash cut away.
Parth Galen! Again, another two potential splits here. The first, (from here on out I’ll refer to as Plot A) which I find rather endearing, is that he goes off with Frodo and Sam when Frodo makes the decision to split. I don’t know that I believe he’d do it, but it proves for a very delightful interpretation of his character.
Plot B is that when the Orcs show up, Faramir survives not by virtue of his being a ~ better warrior ~ or whatever than Boromir, but by the terrain surrounding Parth Galen being something he’s far more in the habit of dealing with, and by virtue of his having a bow at his disposal. I know there’s room for an interpretation of Faramir as not primarily an archer, but narratively I think that’s less interesting. So he’s an archer. He’s an archer and also his priority is on Aragorn first and foremost, so Merry and Pip still get taken, and Frodo and Sam use the hubbub to GTFO, which is actually slightly more in line with the movie’s chronology, funnily enough. The three hunters become four, and then go on Merry & Pippin’s trails.
In Plot A, they’re hauling ass across the Emyn Muil, bolstered in some ways by Faramir’s experience as a Ranger. The problem is the issue of getting into Mordor and whether or not they pick up Gollum. I think, in a way that frustrates me immensely, they do end up taking Gollum, not because they need a guide, but because Gollum fulfils this deep psychological need for Frodo, and I think he would have argued for keeping Gollum regardless. Faramir is going to be fucked off about this, but will ultimately, I think, be deferential to the ringbearer.
So they go across the Dead Marshes, but they do NOT attempt the Black Gate first because Faramir’s not a fool. Do they go to Henneth Annûn? I say yes, but with the caveat that in all likelihood Boromir is gonna be there, which is gonna complicate stuff tremendously.
Over to Plot B!
The four hunters go to the Mark! They meet Éomer! Hey! Éomer recognises Faramir! (And he’s probably a little fucked off that he lost his horse lol). But whatever, he knows this guy, so he’s probably gonna be like, uhhh, everything you saw before in Edoras is much worse now. Also my cousin's dead and everything is bad. Here’s some horses, sorry for maybe accidentally killing your pals, see ya! And at this point I think Faramir’s probably having a, hmmm, g e n t l e  p s y c h i c  c r i s i s, because if he’s still very 👅 for Éowyn (which he is, sorry, he has to be) then he’s going to want to go there ASAP. Obviously though that’s not gonna happen, so: Merry and Pip chasing, Gandalf finding, Edoras arriving.
Which means Éowyn. If, at this point, she and Faramir already have something of an arrangement going on (nudge nudge) then she’s really not gonna give a shit about Aragorn. You know how in TTT it’s not even clear that she actually sees Legolas and Gimli? 100% that vibe with Aragorn too. Théoden’s gonna get his house in order, they’re going to head to Helm’s Deep, and Éowyn’s gonna get named head of house. (Faramir, if he starts off just thinking she’s beautiful, is going to have quite the paradigm shift here, because he’s going to have to start reckoning with her as not just a beautiful woman, but as a very, very intense person. This is how his love for her starts to mature.)
Sometimes I dream about him being like, ‘hey! I have some first hand experience of ruling a kingdom, how about I stay and…….. lend you a hand……..’ to Éowyn while she’s keeping watch on Edoras. This is wildly unlikely, but a delightful thought nonetheless. In the more likely case, which is that he goes to the Hornburg, she’s going to start feeling some strain about this whole war shebang, and it’s going to lead to some difficult conversations. Chief among them is that Faramir, as second son, actually has basically nothing to give her, which is not exactly a great position to be in when you’re in love with the niece of a king. I’m of the opinion that Éowyn’s not fussed by that stuff (she agrees to marry him when he’s prepping to give up a shit ton of power anyways), so she’s probably like, 'no, fuck you, we’re getting married.' And then he leaves, and it starts to emotionally unsettle her more and more.
If they don’t already have a thing, then it either begins at this point OR he gets overshadowed by Aragorn. In either case, off to Helm’s Deep he goes.
Helm’s Deep happens, I think Faramir ends up extraordinarily impressed by how the Rohirrim handle the Dunlenders afterwards, which also begins to soften his harsh opinion of them more generally.
They go to Isengard, Pippin looks in the Palantír, and away Pippin and Gandalf go. Both Gandalf and Faramir here would recognise that it would be batshit insane for Faramir to go back to MT now, because Denethor would read him like a picture book and he’d have to admit to the entire mission of the Fellowship.
Over in Plot A, I think we’re going to have some real emotional complexity vis a vis Faramir showing up at Henneth Annûn with two hobbits, a ring, and Boromir in control there. God, it would just be a disaster. My incredibly generous interpretation of this is that Faramir keeps the plan vague enough that Boromir lets them pass unhindered. My less generous interpretation is… yeah I don’t wanna do it tbh. It’s not pretty. It's also, to be clear: not an indictment of Boromir as a character. His response is entirely rational for someone expected to lead a kingdom and for someone put up against the unbelievable power of the One Ring. The reason Faramir continuously gets to pass largely untempted by the ring is because he's a guy with no actual responsibilities once you take the Rangers away. His understanding of his duty to Gondor is almost entirely conceptual in nature. He can think and talk about defending Gondor as it once was because there are several people above him in the hierarchy defending Gondor for what it is. This is also not an indictment of Faramir. He and Boromir just have wildly different realities to contend with.
They are going to go through Cirith Ungol even though Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumbass both speak Sindarin and don’t cotton on to what its name implies lol. This whole scene is much shorter because Faramir’s significantly more cautious, so there is no Orc capture and Sam doesn't take the Ring. This is where things get a bit complex, and where I don’t think I have the imagination to say much more. Sorry!
Back in Plot B, the lads catch up with Éowyn as they prep to go down the Paths of the Dead. If she and Faramir are a thing, this is where the real emotional distress kicks in for her. All of the men in her life have, at one point or another, functionally abandoned her, and here’s Faramir, love of her life, about to do the exact same thing. Faramir inevitably goes with the Grey Company even though she begs him not to. When she tries to convince them not to go down the Paths at all, he is in the fortunate enough position to throw up his hands and say 'not my call, actually. King’s in charge,' which lessens the emotional conflict there somewhat.
No part of me doubts that Éowyn wouldn’t then immediately go over his head to Aragorn. She would, she absolutely does not give a fuck. And she’s going to get knocked back re: joining them in exactly the same way as in the book, because Aragorn’s take here isn’t actually dependent on her personally, it’s dependent on the duty she’s been charged with, which is taking care of her people. (Also going to be an interesting narrative parallel to a later conversation between Faramir and Aragorn after the Pelennor, which I’ll explain in more detail later.)
Faramir will, perhaps somewhat less dismissively, say this to her. He learns much more obviously the way to talk to her on her own terms, and he’s not gonna fall into the trap of letting her be like ‘you just want me to wait and die after all the men are dead.’ He’s going to probably give her some line about her being the last organised line of defence, and he might even invoke Haleth! It’s not going to work, because Éowyn’s very aware of the apocalyptic nature of all of this, but it’s not going to cause such abject hatred and fury as it otherwise would.
If she and Faramir are not a thing, her emotional distress is as it is in the book, except now Faramir’s trying not to pout in the background. He might even step in to try and soften the blow.
Regardless, she ends up as Dernhelm, she rides to the Pelennor.
Boromir is the one responsible for the Osgiliath retreat, and because it’s heavily implied that Faramir only keeps his seat because he’s got this dumbass Númenor garbage going on ('master of man and beast' — king Beregond), Boromir’s going to get killed by the Witch king here.
This is going to send shockwaves through not just Denethor, but Minas Tirith more generally, because Boromir is fucking adored. Denethor’s going to go high holy crackers much quicker, mostly because Gandalf is a shit stirrer and is going to waste no time at all in announcing that Aragorn, The Rightful King, is on his way, and Denethor will — correctly — surmise that Faramir has chosen Aragorn over returning with whatever Isildur’s Bane is to Gondor. This is the end for Denethor.
Éowyn rides from Dunharrow, slays the Witch king. Faramir and Aragorn show up with the Army of Dead, Faramir does not end up injured, but does end up as the Steward (obviously) and (obviously) aware that Éowyn is in the HOH. And also that everybody else he loves is dead. Yeehaw.
Here’s where I think things get really interesting. I think, counter to the way this is portrayed a lot of the time, Faramir doesn’t go to the Black Gate at all. I think he stays in Minas Tirith, not just to organise the wider range defences (esp the Rohirrim dealing w the Druadan) but in this very grim preparation to lead the retreat from Minas Tirith if/when Frodo & Sam fail. I think he's kind of fine with this for two reasons. The first is that him being conscious to process the death of his father, and it coming hours after the death of his brother means that he's going to have a personal-political crisis, and he's going to have to take the defence of Gondor more seriously than he did before. Second, Aragorn's going to tell him to fucking stay put, and he's going to be fine with it because it means he's going to get to spend the last few days of his life with Éowyn.
He and Éowyn reunite in the HOH, there’s still a lot of deeply emotional stuff going on, but, at least now Faramir’s conscience is clear re: marrying her because, well, he’s the Steward now. Also their reunion is going to take on greater significance because she’ll have killed the thing that killed his brother. So, that’s a lot.
If they are not a thing before the Pelennor, she's still going to drag his ass over to the HOH so she can bitch about being stuck there. But this time he's not a fellow hospital-prisoner, he's having to actually do things, and he's going to use that to his advantage in terms of keeping her from doing stupid shit. I think he's going to try to involve her in some of the strategic questions re: the retreat if the Morannon feint fails. I think he's going to make a point of talking to her to get her help on dealing with the Rohir forces that are in and around the City. I think that's going to go a huge way to helping to ease her misery, and it's going to be such a significant vote of trust in her (even after she's done the unthinkable and deserted her people) that she's going to fall in love with him here, as per. And the contrast between him and Aragorn is going to be all the stronger for it.
So yes. Those are just some of the possibilities I think! Sorry for the word dump!!

2, 4, 5, 6, 9 (Starved), 10 (Anti-Anxiety), 20, 21, 27, 29, 30, 33, 49. Sorry it’s a lot!
2) What fandoms do you write for and do you have a particular favourite if you write for more than one? While I have written for many fandoms in the past, I tend to hyperfixate and usually only write for one at a time. Right now, that is Sanders Sides.
4) What is your favourite genre to write for?If I’m reading this ask correctly, my fav fic genre is hurt/comfort.
5) If you had to choose a favourite out of all of your multi chaptered stories, which would it be and why?Oof...that’s actually kind of tough. I’d say probably Starved? I do like @outside-observations  but it’s sort of stalled on me for the moment. And Superfluous was SO FUN to write but it’s only 2 chapters. Starved probably has to take the winning spot here.
6) If you had to delete one of your stories and never speak of it again, which would it be and why?I would say probably either Anti-Anxiety or Captive. Anti-Anxiety because I despise the way it turned out and got so lost in the process of writing it, and Captive because it’s a prologue I thought I had a whole fic ready for and now I’m stuck coming up with an actual fic.
9) In your Starved fic, what’s your favourite scene that you wrote?Ah! my favorite scene is when (spoilers!) Virgil is talking to the others after the confrontation, and he thinks they know what the doll was for but they thought it was for something else, and they’re having this parallel conversation where they’re talking about two different things but don’t realize it. Then when they do realize it, and he’s all embarrassed, but they’re just like, “holy SHIT how did we read this situation so wrong?????” and they go from “wait shit we thought he was beating us up in effigy and he...he just wanted a hug????” That scene gave me The Feels when I was writing it and tbh it still does when I reread.
10) In your xxx fic, why did you decide to end it like that? Did you have an alternative ending in mind?Oh man. So I basically spent weeks trying to figure out a way to wrap up that stupid story and I had the last chapter written as it’s posted, but I was totally unsatisfied with it. But at the same time I was just SO READY to be DONE with that stupid story that I was like, ‘You know what? F*ck it” and threw that chapter on the ground and ran away from it like the flaming bag of doo it was.
20) Are there any stories that you wished you’d ended differently?I mean...the answer to the last one should probably tell you that, lol.
21) Tell me about another writer(s) who you admire? What is it about them that you admire?Oh man, too many to count here, but there are tons of writers in fandom and out that I admire greatly! My favorite writer ever is Stephen King, though. I adore the way he describes things, and the fact that his work is accessible while still being bone-tinglingly spooky is just awesome to me. Some folks think he over-describes, but I enjoy the atmosphere his descriptions build up.
27) Do you make a general outline for your stories or do you just go with the flow?I generally go with the flow. I only outline if I get stuck. I usually have a vague idea of the ‘shape’ of the story I want to tell, but I sort of let the story tell itself.
29) Do you have a story that you feel doesn’t get as much love as you’d like?Truthfully? No. I feel like I’ve been incredibly lucky with the amount of attention my stories get.
30) In contrast to 29 is there a story which gets lots of love which you kinda eye roll at?Anti-Anxiety. I just. I had plans for that story but it went so sideways on me that anytime someone talks about it I just want to cringe, shove the story behind my back, and gently guide them over to Starved or something else instead.
33 - already answered
49) Can you remember the first fic you read? What was it about?Hmmm. I can’t, no, but I can say with some confidence it was probably a Frodo and Sam story from Lord of the Rings. That was my first real online fandom.
That was fun, thank you!!!

🔥 if you're still accepting them, Aragorn?
This is more of an opinion about the text and writing-craft than an in-universe sort of opinion, but I guess…I’ve heard this thing that a problem with book!Aragorn is that he isn’t ~*%relatable%*~ or something? Which I don’t think I could possibly disagree with more because like…why…would I want…to “relate” to Aragorn? And why would it be a problem that he isn’t relatable? Aragorn IMO is not supposed to be relatable, and is not improved by being more relatable. Aragorn is not the main character, or the pov character, or an audience-identifying character or in any way someone whose major strengths as a character come from being relatable. Aragorn is a good character because he’s not relatable – he’s larger than life and impressive and mysterious and awe-some (in the old sense of the word). This is like, prime politician bullshit – why would I want a leader who is someone who was just like me? I want someone better than me. Unless of course the point of the book is to show how someone just like me can become someone better than me – but that’s very very much not the point or the central topic or central character arc of the book at all.
Tbh just in general, I find the obsession with characters needing to be “relatable” in order to be good or interesting or admirable or sympathetic to be really side-eye just in general (also it generally aligns, like with movie!Faramir, with this audience-patronizing idea that unusually noble characters aren’t believable or some shit), but it’s especially true of Aragorn because that’s just so completely not his role. The fact that Aragorn’s whole arc during LOTR doesn’t take up too much pagetime doing steep-character-development or coming-of-age or accepting-ones-destiny or reluctant-hero stuff is good, it’s what allows the other characters to do them, and for him to stick to more unusual things, and therefore for all the characters and storylines to feel so much fresher and more raw and uncushioned or restricted by straight trope-y-ness than most heroic-quest-stories do.
And also this whole minimalist approach to his relatability and foibles and stuff, and the authority-figure hobbits-eye-view of him throughout FotR, is what makes the moments where he IS fallible and relatable actually meaningful and surprising and not cliched. The fact that he feels so unrelatably majestic and mysterious and dramatic and cool (still in a good way) in FotR is why it’s so poignant and striking, instead of predictable and pointless, and conveys the direness of the situation so compellingly, when the first chapter of TTT after the Fellowship is dissolved, has Legolas and Gimli finding Aragorn crying his eyes out over Boromir’s body and saying he has no idea what he’s supposed to be doing now. It’s very efficiently effective characterization and storytelling and is memorable and meaningful without hogging anything away from Frodo and Sam, or the story’s central point/plot.
