When you get held captive for 2 months, lines get blurry.

"Did you think you could get rid of me that easy?" Slade chuckled. “Ah, kiddo. It’s going to take a lot more than a little push to kill me” He dragged his sword against the floor. "Normal people don't survive that"

He climbed out from under the desk, and made his way to the middle of the room to have the most space to fight back. “Weird flex but okay”

Okay so this fic started because I just really really wanted to write a renegade fic and I had pieces of it written in my draft but never like a full thing and I still have some in my drafts- but I decided to flesh it out and boom the renegade fic was born

I wanted a fun banter between them (actually lemme see the drafts I can find) on second thought let’s not- (I found them but it’s kinda like not the best) okay wait timeout I kinda ate with this-

Here’s some of the other drafts that inspired it but didn’t make the cut:

Scene:

No no no this wasn't supposed to happen. Robin stared down at his team mates, not really processing anything at all, all crying out in pain on the ground while he held the knife. None of this was supposed to happen, they had an agreement.

His friends. The people he grew close with and called them a second family. They laughed together, cried together, worked together. They were supposed to grow up together. He wasn't supposed to be the source of their pain.

"Slade stop it" he begged. "SLADE I AGREED TO DO EVERYTHING YOU WANTED ME TO DO. STOP IT"

"You didn't do everything"

"I don't kill"

"Well, face the consequences"

Dick had a moral crisis. He couldn't block out his friends screams. At that moment he made a split second decision. He grabbed the knife and held it to his throat.

"Stop it or I'll cut" Dick gave an ultimatum. He didn't have a death wish but if it was his friends or himself? He'd sacrifice himself in a heartbeat.

"Don't do it" Wally managed to get out through the blur of pain.

"I'm sorry"

Tense seconds went by, and Dick drove the knife deeper into his skin. He cut through a thin layer of skin, he could feel the blood drip down his throat.

After a minute the screams stopped

"Well-played" Claps echoed from his com. "It'll only work once Grayson. You aren't as valuable as you think. Return to base or I'll start it again" As a final note, Dick was shocked by his own bodysuit. Wasting no time, he gave a two-fingered salute and retreated.

He doesn't know when he'll see his friends again, or his dad. But until it's over he hopes to never see them again. He can't afford to hurt them. So what if it costs him his life? They'll be safe and that's all that mattered.

I have other scenes but this one of my favorites. The others were uh not the best written but I don’t mind cause I just wrote them to get the idea out

But for the specific scene in the ask, it didn’t change too much I really did want the “weird flex but okay” bit to stay the stuff that changed in the fic was how slade was introduced and the timeline of it all like deciding if I wanted to be an aftermath fic or a during the arc, and all that jazz

Slade being creepy with the dragging the swords was also intentional I wanted him to have that mysterious vibe and I think I showed that pretty well

rating the transformers movies I've watched just based on the movie and my personal opinions:

Transformers (2007): solid 7/10. rewatchable, goodish plot, good transformers, kinda bland humans I don't particularly care for, could be better but overall okay.

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen (2009): like 4 1/2-5/10. kinda boring plot but its still rewatchable. even blander humans, weird body horror bit with human disguise Decepticon. it's decent, I guess?

Transformers Dark Side of the Moon (2011): 6/10. where did Mikaela go and who is this new chick? she's cool ig, not very interesting. Sam is still the blandest character ever. I cried when I thought the Autobots left. fuck the government they're dumb. actually liked this one more, the plot was more interesting (I was more invested). better than revenge of the fallen. kickass fight scene at the end.

Transformers Age of Extinction (2014): gonna be honest before I rate it- I didn't finish this one. I had like a half hour left and was very bored. 1/10 but it only gets that one because I got to see Bumblebee be immature (as he should) and there was a First Robotics Competition robot in the background of one scene (I participate in FRC). who the fuck are these people. you killed ratchet and I'm mad about it. what happened, I feel like I missed a whole movie. there's like seventeen subplots and I'm confused. the whole angry overprotective dad and disobedient i-think-shes-supposed-to-be-cool daughter thing is, ngl, kinda annoying. not a fan.

Bumblebee (2018): I actually wanted to see this when I first saw the trailer. 7 1/2/10. I liked the plot for the most part, was a little annoyed with the main characters main stick being that her dad died, little disappointed Bumblebee didn't shift into a Camaro during the final fight scene. overall interesting plot, decent human characters, could've been a little bit better but overall good!

I haven't watched the rest so I might come back to this once I do. this is a personal opinion thing, please don't hate. I'm not an expert, these are just how I feel. I really wanna get more invested in transformers but I can't find much to watch or do anything with them, so if you have suggestions, feel free to leave them in the tags! please don't hate...

Enigma

Warning for anyone else with sensory issues, there was a moment involving nails on glass that felt and sounded really uncomfortable. Not a fan of horror so probably won’t be tuning in, but the school setting could be interesting considering the problems surrounding the Thai education system.

A Boss and a Babe

Choices have been made picking an English title for this show but I like a band called Bump of chicken so I am immune this. I haven’t watched Enchante yet so this trailer is going to be my introduction to Forcebook. It was a cute introduction! No one is wearing a school uniform! Not sure what the plot is yet but might tune in to support my fellow boomers in bl.

Find Yourself

The heterosexual community is also making their contribution to the office romance genre. I kinda like this type of age gap romance, ngl. Looks like a well-intentioned show for ballad loving moms.

Stop the press!!!! I actually cried a bit when the trailer dropped, it was a spontaneous reaction. I was pretty sure this was coming because they’ve been teasing it for so long, but still. It’s real!!! And it looks so good!! Just checked and the director is a woman. I couldn’t be happier. Love the insecurity, love the status gap. Love that it’s simple and feels true. Though Milk as a nobody is bizarre to me, girl I would’ve been obsessed with you haha.

I just watched him and this other guy in the Only Friends trailer where they shot a sex tape, it’s wild being a bl viewer. I like the last scene. I’m easy to please, I’ll probably watch this.

Wednesday Crush

Ohm has reunited with a gun. My attention span is wandering off again. Is that bisexual lighting. I’ll watch if they provide an appropriate number of bisexuals to go with the lighting.

Last Twilight

You can immediately tell this is by p’Aof, it has that vibe. The story feels a lot more fleshed out than a lot of the others. I’ll probably watch for the director but I’m honestly not entirely sold on the casting. You need a certain type of presence to carry this type of story and I’m not sure if these actors have it but time will tell. At least Ayan’s mom is there collecting her paycheck. Namtan’s five seconds of screentime distracted me.

Loneliness Society

This feels a bit like the movie While You Were Sleeping. I like that movie! Probably won’t watch this though unless I run out of study material. I love Janhae, give her roles I can actually watch please.

Only Friends

Stop the press!!!!! I am screaming. I am laughing. I am pressing watch again. I am insane. I love the mess that is Friendzone, I am the target audience of this show. The ensemble is great, I’m already sensing so many vibes and moods. During The Eclipse I kept thinking how I want to see Neo, First and Khaotung explore different roles because they have a lot of potential and range, so I’m super excited to see them and the others take on these characters who maybe aren’t always universally likable or do the right thing!!! And I enjoy that everyone in the group is fucking around and finding out because some bl viewers can be quite strange about your fave even shaking hands with someone they’re not selling mascara with. Though having said that I do maybe want Firstkhao’s characters to end up together even if one or both of them are messy people because their chemistry is just that great so who am I to cast the first stone haha.

Yeah because systemic oppression of queer communities for millennia means it’s understandable when members of those communities sometimes act out/react badly. Mailin has every privilege in the bag so of course flaws aren’t so easily forgiven

Hi anon! 🧇 Ngl I thought this ask was going to go in a different direction, one that was going to make me complain a lot more lmao.

I was talking about badly written seasons specifically. I'm not talking about queer characters (or any kind of minority characters actually) behaving badly. I love Isak and he was an asshole to like 95% of people he came across. Cris was also an asshole. Kieu My was a bystander to bullying and pulled some dick moves in s5 and s6. I hate to even put Ava in this paragraph, but when she had a personality, she didn't just exist to be Mailin's hypewoman, she had her own motives and pain that meant she didn't say "you go gurl!" to every stunt Mailin pulled. Lol of course members of oppressed communities aren't always precious angels, but we as a fandom give wayyyyyyyyy more leeway to white/light-skinned queer characters than we give cishet (or otherwise) characters of color.

We also give more leeway as a fandom to ASSUMED queer white characters, as we saw during s6 when the Druck social media team had to DEFEND Ava in youtube comments because commenters were massively siding with Mailin. And it wasn't just on youtube. Here on tumblr many people gave Mailin every benefit of the doubt even when Druck kept showing that she was more focused on coming across as the wokest person in the room, than on actually being a good friend to Ava and Fatou. And that was because even in s6, Mailin was assumed ace or sapphic or both. Same with pretty much every Sana/Vilde conflict. Vilde and remakes were given a lot of leeway because people thought she was sapphic. (And to be clear, I think a queer reading of Vilde makes a lot of sense. I'm not saying people are wrong for thinking Vilde is gay. I'm saying that because we/people think Vilde is gay, Vilde enjoyed a loyal fandom who defended her in fandom discourse.)

So if I'm fine with some queer characters behaving badly, why am I not okay with baby Robbe and Isi and whoever else? Well, because they're fictional characters first of all. Ideally, the character arc of a Skams main will be about ("you know what that is?") GROWTH. Isak was taken to task for pretty much every shitty thing he did, and eventually he learns to be more patient and generous (in his season anyway lol, s4 is a bit more complicated) as shown in week 10 when he's a completely different person to Vilde, and lets bygones be bygones with Emma. Likewise Cris was slapped across the face with the consequences of her actions until she made more efforts to understand the people around her and focused on giving them what they needed. Nora G realized that she'd been going through life thinking she had it all figured out, when abusive relationships are more complex than she thought looking at them from the outside. I do not think Robbe was given a character arc that addressed the bits the writers decided to add for funsies, like accusing Sander of abuse or the hate crime. Isi's redemption arc after bullying their childhood friend is, lmao, nonexistent. The love story with Sascha is perfunctory, Sascha and Lou were included because the season had too many poc as leading characters, and Sascha really only exists to make sad faces when Isi once again mistreats him. Then they're given a happy ending as well as the compulsory sex scene.

So you said Mailin's flaws aren't so easily forgiven, and I will say, depends on the viewer. If Mailin has every privilege in the bag, then Sporty Spice has one more. And yet I had to see on the tag a post about how op actually prefers Sporty to Mailin and thinks he's a more compelling character and his season would've been better. The thing is though, with this writing, Sporty would've been just as flat of a character and any storylines just as "how do you do fellow kids". But people like op would've loved it anyway because the actor is so cute. And there are plenty of people (see: youtube commenters circa s6) who still think Mailin is fucking great and think those that attack her are misogynists and "reverse racists" and "fake woke" and "looking for something to hate".

My conclusion being that of the post I already made. Eva Mohn also had pretty much every privilege in the bag, but her season was well written, her character arc made sense, her flaws were addressed, and the character (and by extension, the teens who Eva represented) were validated wherever she was right. And if Druck absolutely had to rob Ava of her well deserved season, the least they could've done was deliver a good Mailin season. And they didn't.

Edit: Also like I said on the tags to a reblog, I don't even place most of the blame on the writers. Q3 were also criticized for a bunch of issues in s3 and s4, but they decided to get educated, invite a diverse film's collective (Jünglinge) onboard and try to improve. And they weren't given the chance to complete this gen as they envisioned. If this bunch of writers, who are after all inexperienced, decide to improve and incorporate fan feedback, ZDF will likely get rid of them too. The problem is ZDF, and the writers are perhaps even more expendable than the cast at this point.

I have a lot of Thoughts and Emotions about the Les Mis UK and Ireland tour and I am going to talk about them now. I’m not really a theatre kid so these will just be my rambles about fave songs and moments and my emotions. Under the cut for spoilers

First of all we had SUCH GOOD SEATS we were right in the middle of the stalls and we could see e v e r y t h i n g - That isn’t relevant to the tour but it’s important to me that you know

I loved how after Valjean’s Soliloquy as the music for At the End of the Day starts we get the title of the show against the backdrop. I am NOT doing that description any justice but it was really cool and that was the moment where I was like HOLY SHIT I’M WATCHING LES MIS

shoutout to Nic Greenshields’ Javert for just being a SUPER IMPOSING and scary figure like that man is TALL AND BROAD AND I WOULD BE SCARED OF HIM. I liked his performance for the most part. Stars is one of my favourite songs in the show and I think he did a great job of it. I have more to say on Javert’s Suicide but we’ll get to that later. 

Dean Chisnall as Jean Valjean was good, but like tbh he didn’t make a massive impression on me. Some of his songs were very shouty, especially Valjean’s Soliloquy. Props to him though because anyone who can play a role like Jean Valjean is massively talented and deserves all the credit. 

I’m not really a crier at all, but I said to aro-enj before we went to the theatre that if I cried at I Dreamed a Dream they’re doing something right. Katie Hall’s Fantine was fantastic and heartbreaking and I did shed a tear, so good for her. 

omg though at the end of Lovely Ladies, Fantine’s first client was the factory foreman!!!!!! He takes her hand and says “Ah yes, the virtuous Fantine” and I s2g I’ve never wanted to climb down all the seats and onto the stage to punch a character in the face before but I was feeling it there. 

The Confrontation was good, but this production had a lot of like, cheorographed fight scenes with lots of punches etc and ngl I found them very distracting at some points?

omg there was a super cute bit following Castle on a Cloud where baby Éponine and Madame Thenardier were copying each other and doing the same mannerisms in a “like mother like daughter” type thing and it was super funny and cute

Thenardier and Madame Thenardier were fun in general- More on that later- But Master of the House is a bop and sorry if you disagree but it’s true

THEN IT WAS 1832 TIME BABYYYYY- Look Down, Paris is another fave of mine and the staging and everything was amazing and of course aro-enj and I did a major flail when we saw our dude our man our guy Enjolras. Also I was such a HUGE FAN of Gavroche in this production he had so much spunk and personality and he was just the coolest lil dude, I really really enjoyed him.

TIME TO TALK ABOUT RED AND BLACK BABYYYYYYYYYYYY. I really enjoyed Samuel Wyn-Morris’ Enjolras. He was intense and passionate and was not there at all for Grantaire and Marius’ fucking about. There were a good few eyerolls and glares but he also wasn’t overly aggressive which was great to see. Steven Hall’s Grantaire was really great as well- Very rowdy and drunk and floppy- During ‘Lamarque is Dead’ and ‘Do You Hear the People Sing?’ he was always over at the side of the stage not actually participating in the Revolution which I thought was very very good characterisation. 

And yes, there was ExR. There was a point in Red and Black, I can’t remember when, when Grantaire gave Enjolras a big shit-eating grin and fixed his...Cravat or vest I can’t remember which but I was like YAS. I AM FED. 

ok ok real talk I absolutely adore A Heart Full of Love, I just think it is so damn sweet and romantic and I absolutely loved the staging of it. Marius throws a pebble at Cosette’s window to get her to notice him and I was like omg I cry. They are in LOVE, your honor. 

For me the biggest surprise of the show was how much I enjoyed Will Callan’s performance as Marius. Marius isn’t a character I really focus on a lot but he was the perfect mix of bumbling and romantic and just the sweetest boi and I loved watching him. During In My Life he did a big dramatic twirl thing and it made me giggle because it was just so Marius. 

Nathania Ong’s Éponine was just fantastic. So much personality and On My Own took my damn breath away. I think Éponines are generally cast really well but Nathania’s was playful and young and so so sad at the sad time which is perfect for Ep. And she absolutely made On My Own her own, I had chills. 

omg also I can’t remember what part it was at, I think it was just after A Heart Full of Love? But Marius kind of introduces Eponine and Cosette and they recognise each other which I thought was a really great moment. And there was a part where Eponine has fallen over and Cosette helps her up and it was very sweet

Big fan of Javert’s barricade outfit. How do you do, fellow revolutionaries? 

AGAIN GAVROCHE IS JUST THE COOLEST CHARACTER IN THE SHOW. He straight up gave Javert the middle finger at the barricades and I died it was hilarious. 

SPEAKING OF DEATH, TIME FOR SADNESS THE MUSICAL. 

A Little Fall of Rain was heartbreaking, when Gavroche saw it was Eponine who had been shot he ran over and just stared at her and you could see the shock on his lil face. I always think there’s not enough emphasis on the fact that Eponine and Gavroche are siblings so it was a very nice moment. And when some members of Les Amis lifted Eponine away Enjolras went to Marius and wrapped him in a hug ;_; there were some really good Marius and Enjolras friendship moments in the show in general (aro-enj said they understand Marius/Enjolras shippers now :o)

Grantaire and Gavroche had this really sweet big brother/adoptive father and son relationship, and Grantaire was always trying to distract Gavroche and take him away from the Revolution and it was breaking my heart. During Bring Him Home they fell asleep together in the corner of the stage. I cry. 

AND THEN WHEN GAVROCHE DIED GRANTAIRE CARRIED HIS BODY AWAY FROM THE BARRICADE AND KEPT SHAKING HIM AND TRYING TO GET HIM TO WAKE UP AND IT WAS THE SADDEST THING I’VE EVER SEEN

OKAY SO then it’s the final battle everyone is dying. Marius gets shot and both Grantaire and Enjolras run to help him at the same time. They look up and their eyes meet and they hug. 

I witnessed an ExR hug with my own two eyes and I am literally never going to shut up about it or stop thinking about it. besties I am feral. 

OK SO NOW EVERYONE IS DEAD. The barricade got moved away but Gavroche was left on stage and the cart came out with Enjolras’ body on it and they put Gavroche beside him. Big big big ouch. 

And then Dog Eats Dog. I like Thenardier well enough and he was a great comedic character earlier in the show, but comedy during Dog Eats Dog hits a wrong note for me. This is one of the most sinister and dark parts of the show, so getting a couple of laughs in when 1) you’ve already had a LOT earlier in the show and 2) you have a comedic song i.e. Beggars at the Feast before the show finishes, it felt unnecessary 

OK SO JAVERT’S SUICIDE WAS KIND OF WEIRD???? Nic Greenshields got quite shout-y at some points, and while I understand your acting goals here because of Javert’s despair, I am also going to expect you to like...Hit the right notes. But it definitely wasn’t terrible. Also the staging was super weird for it imo. When he jumped there was a special effect to make it look like he was falling, but his limbs were flailing everywhere and honestly it just kind of looked silly and comical and I actually snorted. Not exactly the dramatic ending for Javert I was expecting. 

EMPTY CHAIRS AT EMPTY TABLES RIPPED MY SOUL FROM MY BODY AND KICKED IT TO DEATH. I’ve already said I really enjoyed Will Callan’s performance as Marius, and he was truly excellent here. It was absolutely heartbreaking and his voice and acting were superb, and then when you think it can’t get any sadder Les Amis come out of the shadows and stand around Marius as he sings. At the end Les Amis fade into the background again, and Marius shares one more look with Enjolras before he disappears. SAD. 

Also Thenardier changed the “this one’s a queer but what you gonna do?” line in Beggars at the Feast to “this one’s a queer but I’ve tried it too.” Thenardier is bisexual it’s canon now. 

ok so FINALE TIME. @ the person whose phone rang LOUDLY during the Bring Him Home reprise if I ever find you I’m going to BITE YOUR ANKLES. 

But anyway. One thing I really really loved is that when Fantine came back SHE HAD HER LONG HAIR AGAIN. It really annoys me that Fantine cutting her hair is a symbol of how far she’s fallen, and yet oftentimes when she comes back in the finale when she’s at peace she’ll still have her short hair???? Make it make sense???? So I’m really really glad they fixed that. 

The Finale gets me every damn time man. I think I’m going to get through it and then I hear “And remember the truth that once was spoken...” And I lose it. So yes more tears were shed, which again means they did it right. Also Valjean saw the Bishop again during DYHTPS and they hugged and it was wonderful, I love seeing the Bishop and Valjean meeting again in heaven. 

BUT YES THOSE ARE MY THOUGHTS the show was so so excellent and so worth it. Stand out performances for me were Katie Hall’s Fantine, Nathania Ong’s Eponine, Will Callan’s Marius and the Gavroche we had that day (not sure which actor we had). haikyuu!! team christmas parties

a/n: this is a suuuuper late christmas-themed post because it was kinda crazy here but i hope you guys enjoy these headcanons of how christmas parties are like with the teams

karasuno: 

a very chaotic yet very festive christmas party

nishinoya and hinata especially are very excited for it you could tell by the way they hum christmas songs in the locker room

naturally sugawara suggests holding a christmas party in his house but the only one he sends invitations to is tsukishima because he's the likeliest one to back out

in fact, sugawara probably sends an invitation to tsukishima's house every single day and at this point both akiteru and his mom are anticipating 'kei's first christmas party with friends'

hinata was too excited that he was there at sugawara's house two hours early but they spent a lot of time decorating the entire place

yamaguchi was there just as early because he thought it would be polite and he even brought a box of chocolates for sugawara's family

all of them also decided to do a secret santa gift exchange to make things fun and so they wouldn't have to give everyone gifts

the only ones who gave everyone gifts though were asahi (HE MADE UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATERS FOR EVERYONE) and yachi who gave everyone some cookies that she baked

everyone mentally thanked kiyoko for getting yachi as assistant manager

ennoshita's secret santa was tanaka and because he knew that ennoshita has been wanting a starbuck's planner, he enlisted noya's help in getting one

did this mean they both chugged 12 starbucks drinks all by themselves in one day? yeah pretty much

when ennoshita got his gift everyone understood why tanaka and noya were extra hyper that day

kageyama also got tsukishima as his secret santa

tsukki actually tried to exchange with yamaguchi but daichi caught him and said that there were no exchanges

he was also planning to get kageyama a plastic tiara as a gift but daichi also caught him (is2g he's everywhere)

eventually tsukishima settled on giving kageyama a volleyball cause he couldn't go wrong with that

kageyama was actually really happy with the gift but kinda pissed that it came from tsukishima of all people so he was just kinda squinting at tsukishima wondering what to say

anyway they didn't fight that's a christmas miracle

yamaguchi got daichi's name for the secret santa and gifted him a coupon for a free spa visit

daichi has a new favorite child

jk yamaguchi has always been his favorite child

hinata actually got KIYOKO to give a gift too and he was anxious for an entire week worrying about what to give her

he ended up asking natsu for advice and then gifting kiyoko a cute little phone charm

she thought it was sweet and still keeps it to this day

seijoh:

oikawa already had a group chat for a christmas party when december started hanamaki and matsukawa spammed it with memes and santa emojis for the first two weeks

finally when they got around to planning, iwaizumi offered to hold the party at his house 

surprisingly, the earliest one there was kyoutani because ofc he's helping his senpai set up

imagine the both of them trimming the christmas tree i'm jlgkjalg 

kyoutani even brought his own christmas decorations (they're little dogs with santa hats on them) 

kindaichi and kunimi were next to come in and they brought a little gingerbread house that they made themselves

y'all oikawa came in last because of 'traffic' but iwaizumi's like 'bullshit, you live next door'

he was late because he was watching the doctor who christmas special 

matsukawa and hanamaki are of course in charge of all the party games that last throughout the night

they have a newspaper dance game and they intentionally paired up oikawa and kyoutani 

they were the first ones to lose the game because kyoutani wouldn't come a foot near oikawa and that's about how wide their newspaper was

iwaizumi and kindaichi easily won but kindaichi was flustered that iwaizumi carried him bridal-style

you can bet they also brought karaoke and yahaba surprised everyone with his rendition of 'all i want for christmas is you'

also matsukawa and hanamaki did a really good duet of 'baby it's cold outside'

oikawa wanted to make a speech about his friends being his family and them being his best christmas gift ever but hanamaki stopped him

oikawa ended up giving one anyway when the party ended up going on until much later and everyone cried

everyone except kyoutani who was wondering why everyone was crying until he realized that iwaizumi was going abroad for uni

shiratorizawa:

these guys are so close that they just had to have a christmas party together 

goshiki ofc volunteered his own house and was deadset on making it the best christmas ever for his senpais

except tendou may have told him that ushijima's favorite decorations were mistletoe so ofc goshiki hung mistletoe ever

the funny thing is ushijima DOES like mistletoe. he thinks its classy and simple but he doesn't know about the kissing thing

meanwhile shirabu and tendou are on the side wondering if they should tell either of them

semi lost some kind of bet (probs with shirabu and kawanishi) and now he has to dress up as santa claus for some reason

lmao angry santa semi i love it already

tendou made some handmade chocolate truffles and half of them are delicious but the other half have a piece of onion in the middle

but the delicious ones are like REALLY delicious so everyone plays this sort of russian roulette game with tendou's chocolate truffles

semi kept on getting the onion truffles until reon felt bad for him and gave him his chocolate truffle

it ended up becoming a christmas tradition

ushijima actually gave everyone a gift and it's matching knee pads

shirabu actually loves them except he doesn't want to wear them out so he never wears them

also he gets cold really easily so even though the christmas party is indoors, he's wearing a sweater and a coat and a quilt on top of that

he honestly looks so cozy that by the end of the night everyone is cuddled up next to shirabu

EXCEPT USHIJIMA ALSO INVITED COACH WASHIJO TO COME IN

ushijima: he's our coach and therefore a part of our team so of course i invited him

no one can argue with him there

coach washijo was surprisingly a nice guest but everyone was extra courteous around him

semi served him some hot tea and shirabu even gave his quilt

goshiki was hiding in his bathroom because he might get lectured on his serves

they didn't know what activities to do with coach washijo around so tendou suggested watching their volleyball games (yes, goshiki has them all on tape) and coach washijo was all like 'i watch you play all the time why would i want to do that now?'

eventually they settled on watching Polar Express and it was nice

nekoma:

their christmas party is also a costume party because kuroo said so all of them came in christmas-themed costumes

AND THEY WERE ALL GROUP COSTUMES

the third years roped in shibayama and they all dressed up as the characters from 'A Christmas Carol'

shibayama was christmas past, kai was christmas present, kuroo was christmas future, and yaku was scrooge

kuroo: it's perfect because you're short and mean

it's funny because they all end up capitalists

okay but tbh the second years plus lev also went all out for their costumes because they come in as HOME ALONE

i'm clearly biased when it comes to my favorite christmas movies

fukunaga and taketora are the two robbers, kenma's kevin, and lev comes in as the house

it's basically a cardboard cut-out of a house that he and alisa made

the first twenty minutes of their christmas party is basically just them arguing about which group had the better costume

eventually they decide to actually enjoy the party

they end up playing a lot of parlor games and even though kenma hates how loud everyone is, he's still determined to win all of them

i swear, he ended up pushing lev out of the way during musical chairs, also grabbing the chair before sitting on it

but then after that kenma decides to play games for the rest of the night except kuroo confiscated his game console (again)

you can bet yaku and fukunaga cooked the christmas dinner for everyone

kai takes a million pictures for the memories but he's really a perfectionist about it and go crazy whenever lev moves two millimeteres too far to the left

when the pictures are developed kuroo has them developed on matching t-shirts and forces everyone to wear them during practice matches

inarizaki: 

ngl they're not SUPER into christmas but they're just mildly curious about the celebration

it's mostly the miya twins who initiate it as a way for all of them to have a get-together during the winter break

kita thinks it's a good idea and invites them all to his house

he's actually quite curious about christmas as a religious celebration so he reads up on it a lot and even starts to up his own nativity scene as decoration

he ends up asking his teammates if they want to bring anything to add to the nativity scene

suna brings his gundam figurines and atsumu has an acrylic standee of momo from twice

and now those are joseph and mary

aran and kita take one look at the nativity scene and go 'this doesn't look right' but atsumu looks so happy to have momo there that they just leave it be

osamu is in charge of food ofc but he can't make up his mind on what to cook so he ends up cooking a little bit of everything

ofc atsumu has to be the one to help him but he ends up tasting and eating a good portion while osamu's cooking

*insert fighting in the kitchen*

suna's just walking around taking pictures of everything and uploading them to his snapchat (which has a lot of followers)

kita also hung up stockings for everyone and suna was expecting it to have candy but its full of fruit and healthy snacks

suna’s also the first one to fall asleep right smack on kita’s couch 

atsumu’s just about to draw on his face with permanent marker but kita has a disappointed look so he stops instantly

in fact, ALL of them end up falling asleep in the middle of kita’s living room 

they look so cute aran is in the middle with each of the miya twins on his side. suna is sprawled all over the couch with his face buried in the cushions. kita is sleeping right next to the coffee table with his arms crossed over his chest

kita’s grandmother walks in on them in the living room and knows FOR SURE that she doesn’t have four grandchildren but she’s making them breakfast anyway

Why I like them: ksdjhf where do i BEGIN. she's that one character who was INSTANTLY my favorite; i fell in love with her voice, her demeanor, her personality, everything! but i also love her and relate to her on a deeper level--how she's seen as less mature because of her likes and hobbies, how she represses her negative emotions for fear of making other people hurt or uncomfortable, growing up isolated. also i really love her creativity and her growth from someone sheltered to someone with a bit more worldly experience who takes initiative, but in that growth she never lets go of her love for unicorns or fairy tales or the color pink or her joy and kindness and belief in the best of people! i love her so much

Unpopular opinion: kinda wish we got more time for jester introspection/inner conflict in the travelercon arc? it got kinda wrapped up pretty neatly and i do wish we could've gotten more conflict. i do like that her friendship w artagan was reaffirmed in the end, but idk i do wish there were some more challenges thrown her way in that regard and that would make it all the more satisfying to see her rise above it all and fight for her beliefs and win in the end. also ngl some of the shipping discourse i see is Weird and im just gonna leave it at that. also there's more to jester's humor than d!ck jokes and i kinda don't like how one-note it all started to become in the later episodes

A wish: continuing from the first point in the unpopular opinion section, would have LOVED to see the timeline where the traveler actually was taken to the feywild and jester turned to the moonweaver for help. while her faith in artagan is definitely strong in canon i feel like that kind of arc would have made her faith feel even STRONGER. also i wanna see her feywild adventures

Why I like them: oh golly gee ANOTHER character i relate to! gifted kid burnout syndrome my beloathed. mainly the experience of being considered a prodigy early in life and then expected to preform to that standard every time. also i LOVE essek's arc and his character development, he grew from someone cold and isolating to someone who cries over a person he didn't even know (mollymauk) and all that growth was SO satisfying to watch. easily my favorite character arc

Favorite episode (scene if movie): episode 91 was SO GOOD

Favorite season/movie: despite being a Molly Stan, essek was easily my favorite part of the aeor arc! (mostly bc the molly and lucien stuff made me stressed and emotional while watching; essek was nothing but satisfying to watch) anyway i loved being able to see that growth in real time!

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: that after the m9 are all gone, that he doesn't ever find happiness again and slips back into loneliness. i would like to think he's able to find more friends, more adventures, and more love while still honoring his old ones, and he's able to live a long and happy life

YEAHAHA TELL ABOUT TGCF GO OFF I'LL PROBABLY READ IT NO MATTER WHAT <3!!

OKAY RAMBLE UNDER CUT IT'S LONG

I stumbled upon the donghua on netflix randomly two weeks ago because I was trying to check netflix for a movie and saw a preview of it at the top of the page. It was the scene where Xie Lian sees a wraith buttefly for the first time before Ling Wen tells him two deputy gods have arrived to help him; I thought the animation was so pretty and Xie Lian's voice sounded so soft and gentle and immediately wanted to give it a try after I found and watched the movie I wanted to see. During that time I also read the little summary netflix gives you, and thought it was interesting (and also a little fruity alsdgh, if only I knew!)

So after watching the movie (I found it on another website), I returned to netflix and started watching the first episode. Ngl, I was a little confused at first because I was trying to get the characters and plot down and had completely forgotten the summary, and kept watching.

And then I reach the end of episode two and get punched in the face with the most homoromantic scene I've ever seen in an animated show. I was still confused because I didn't know who the fuck this new person is or why there were suddenly flashbacks but holy shit it was so tender and romantic, I was losing my mind with it. Especially because I thought the fruitiness wasn't intentional!

Eventually I remember the netflix summary mentioned something about Xie Lian joining forces with a demon or something and figured out that's who he met in that scene, and tried to brush it off so I wouldn't go insane.

Yeah no bilibili didn't have mercy on me and the fruity moments kept coming adglasldgkh. It wasn't until episode 5 that I found out why though.

It was pretty early in that episode and it was the scene where Xie Lian learns Hua Cheng's name from Ling Wen, and when he compliments it so calm and softly (I lost my mind again at that) the camera suddenly cuts to Ling Wen looking like she's about to have a heart attack and I thought it was so funny I wanted to take a screenshot. HOWEVER, netflix doesn't let people do that, so I googled Heaven Official's Blessing (english for tian guan ci fu/tgcf) to see if it was playing on any other streaming sites.

As I skimmed the information panel to see if showed anything useful, my eyes glanced at the reviews and immediately caught on one word: "LGBT". I was like "OH WAIT, WHAT?" and immediately clicked on the review, and read the first three. When all of them mentioned it was a bl and amazing and I confirmed the fact with another google search I actually lost my mind that time because WHAT???? IT'S GAY AS FUCK?! ON PURPOSE?!

That's also when I realized all those moments were actually intentionally fruity lasdkgh

I binged the rest of the donghua that night, it was great. I loved it so much. I also learned there was a manhua, and easily found it, so I binged all the available chapters that Saturday.

IT WAS SO GOOD- it had a lot more explicitly romantic scenes because it wasn't under a censorship watch and the art style holy SHIT!!

I'd also learned sometime between watching the donghua and reading the manhua that the original source for them is a novel series, and so of course at that point since I was obsessed with tgcf I wanted to read them. So when I searched for any online translations after preording the first novel that Sunday and saw a couple of them available, I immediately started to read it lmao

AND OH MY FUCKING GOD THE NOVELS, THE FUCKING NOVELS KILLED ME!!! Such tender moments. Such heart-shattering moments. Amazing characters. I actually cried a little bit when I finished the last novel exactly a week after I started reading it, and it's officially my favorite thing ever rn lmao, even though I'm still unsteady with some of the names alsdk

I could keep screaming if you'd let me honestly, like all the tender, sweet moments or how I hate Qi Rong so fucking much but he's so funny at the same time, or just about so much other things

Can we just talk about the ending of KawoShin open discuss. *sort of spoilerish*

I feel like I’m the only one who’s like reallly disappointed LMFAO--ya’ll there’s so much “canon” alternative universe and merchandise for Kawoshin in Evangelion that it kind of makes me upset to realise this couple just went down the drain. Yeah, I can see how people were like, “Kaworu’s toxic” or “Kaworu has a hero complex for Shinji” to which I say are valid points. But the toxic thing I feel like can also be applied to pretty much everyone around Shinji tbh, except for Rei. I did NOT, like Asuka at all but I really love her character though, and I felt for her a lot throughout the series.

I did not ship them either because honestly, Shinji and Asuka seemed better off playing the sibling dynamic instead of trying to play bf/gf which honestly is kind of forced by their living situation. Also since they’re in a similar disposition non existent father and dead mother, you’d imagine they would rely on each other for emotional comfort. Though Asuka—her personality I feel like she can’t differentiate between familial love and romantic love and the affection she wants is a bit of both. But, her character tries to be “mature”; she wants romantic love more and does this through sexual means and romantic gestures e.g. like kissing. One of my friends told me that you can’t stay friends as a boy and a girl cause eventually you catch feelings. Which I say is kinda dumb cause I have a lot of male friends, and I definitely don’t harbour those feelings, but I guess it’s a common phenomena.

I think this is what happens in this case, of Asuka and Shinji. Even after rejection of instrumentality they actually are depicted as childhood friends. But knowing how they both were before to each other, it was not good tbh. Also to mention the choking like thrice— bro if anything, this showcases a really abusive relationship and I think this outstretches the idea of their character tropes. Which I firmly stand by saying they’re superficial to each other. AsuShin were never really there for each other and are using each other in a forced situation. However, you can’t deny that they didn’t at some point catch feels, also Shinji is pretty consistent how he still cares about everyone around him. Which I really like how they add that to his character because it reminiscent of Yui, because you see a duality of both his parents personality in Shinji throughout the series—it’s a really nice touch. But bruh, if we gonna talk about that coma scene—I’m out LOL.

Thoughhhh, she is a true definition of best girl I really like her arc, fighting drive, and her skills as an Eva pilot 😭💗--but bruh she’s still a toxic and sometimes annoying tsundere trope, but still she’s 14 what can you do. So I feel like Kensuke and Asuka are actually a pretty good combo, cause he’s always been pretty mature even without parents. Also Asuka was into older guys, so I guess this is a win win?? Also Rei and Shinji, I honestly cannot get my head around it cause that’s pretty much his mom—so in a way that’s like either his half-sister or mom-ish clone?? Idk but Yui is definitely the donor LOL.

Kaworu and Shinji I felt like brought a bunch of things out of each other. I don’t know which timeline begins first, but I’d like to think the manga, the anime (plus its movies), and then to the rebuild series. Because I think that order is kind of pivotal to observing Kaworu’s character development from being a person who’s trying to understand human feelings to then the kinder person we see in the final series. You can tell how he’s changed and he knows Shinji a lot more as well as being considerate to him e.g. giving him personal space or letting him work at his own pace. Also that “we’ll meet again.” Is an obvious nod to how he’s done this before.

His literal story in every timeline is always romantic LOL, like bruh I can’t remember which game it was but basically a bad ending of Kawoshin route is that you reject Kaworu and he starts the third impact 🤡. Also I don’t know why but I started to see a weird dynamic between those two, in the manga their interactions reminded me of Asuka and Shinji—which Shinji is the tsundere Asuka here. I don’t know if this is relevant but the older character relative to the character they’re with seems to play off a mature vs a childish person trope. Asuka is younger than Shinji and Shinji is actually younger than Kaworu. Then again I could be overseeing this but istg manga Kaworu and Shinji mirror the whole Asushin dynamic. Like he’s seriously agressive against Kaworu, then after killing him he admits liking him. 🤡 I don’t know which is funnier no homo Shinji, homophobe shinji, or just closet Shinji who needs to realise sexuality is a spectrum so he could’ve idk—come out as bisexual, but whatever manga Shinji lol that timeline is over.

Anyways the development of these two is real and I think the rebuild timeline shows them at their best bringing their own personage out from each other like how they both enjoy music together--WHICH I’M SO SAD WE NEVER GET TO SEE THAT CELLO AGAIN. Then there’s those feelings of humanity, love, kindness, etc. Which yeah an angel could represent those things, but Kaworu is still his own person, self-aware of a cycle and if you think about how he initially was there to USE Shinji, but ultimately turned on that plan set by SEELE because he loved Shinji (and a bunch of other things like him showing Kaworu humanity). I also can see the argument, how “ideal” Kaworu is to Shinji, but he’s more self aware of the time he has before he KNOWS he’ll die and knows how to act for himself in that duration to make the most of it. All with Shinji. At some point, I think he fell in love with Shinji tho I don’t know where it began tbh—considering that all those alternate universes do exist. Kaworu does romantically love Shinji--so, in some universe they both reciprocate their feelings to each other. 

In the last movie during that convo with Shinji. Like bREH it’s so emotionally moving because Kaworu remembers ALLLLL the timelines and how he’s been with Shinji and later Shinji himself recalls the events too. Where they show the scene from the manga and anime. Kaworu cries after being set free from the EVA cycle. Which, I definitely understood what he meant by him saying “it’ll be lonely” and how Shinji changed or that he’s actually different this time.

Either way, Shinji did right by him because it’s always Kaworu who has the purpose of “trying to save Shinji” but it always ends up the same. I thought that was really moving because Shinji tells Kaworu he’s gonna let him live a life for himself for once and he wants the same for everyone as well. Which was honestly so meaningful cause I think Kaworu’s character and like Rei too when they start to realise how to “live” like a person and not another puppet it’s truly liberating. Another thing I forgot, bruh Kaworu calls Gendo his father and ngl I feel like this is kind of a weird lore situation because I for sure don’t think he’s the donor. I think he calls him that as an insult because he knows Gendo’s whole doing and relative to Shinji—I kind of see it as a joke LOL. Like it’s equivalent to saying, “daddy chill”, or “hey look it’s daddy and his plans to end the world” also I kind of like to think of it as a father in law thing cause you know, Kawoshin *winks amirite*

The ending, I’m honestly hoping is just an open ending because it gives everything an actual start of their adult lives not being dictated by extraterrestrial forces. Though, I’m kind of wondering if the world doesn’t have EVAs does that still mean everyone else still has the same backstory, and do they remember? Maybe Mari really is just a coworker lmfao, and there’s still a chance for Kaworu and Shinji cause ngl, they did have a convo (presumably from the spoilers) about still remaining close afterwards and that stare at the ending seems very hopeful.

I call bs from Anno saying, “oh Shinji is based off him and Mari off of his wife”, like honestly any OCs made theres always some part of yourself made into that character. Which is probably why a lot of people relate to the characters in EVA because they’re based off real things (e.g. those war machines characters are named after and people around them). I think why Kaworu and Rei are together at the end, is bc they’re very much the same. They’re mass produced dolls—which oddly enough that’s the case for all the children except they don’t recall the loop. Kind of funny also how both Kaworu and Rei became farmers lmfao so ig it runs in the family (yes that’s right I like the idea that they’re siblings it was always noted that they’re like “the same”).

Another thing, i think why the rebuild really did well for Kawoshin and in my opinion canonised it—the convo with elder Ryoji Kaji (Misato’s baby daddy) that there was a time he felt incredibly lonely and depressed thinking Misato didn’t love him and so he started looking out for himself. So self love and found himself a hobby in farming which he suggests to Kaworu—basically saying he might feel like Shinji doesn’t love him but he’s gotta remember to take care of himself. if I go thru a breakup ill feel like it’s the end of the world but Kaji says y’a gotta self love broe and take care yo self gad dam fam 😭 💗.

Though, that look at the end from Shinji to Kaworu—I’d like to believe there is still hope that one day when they’re a bit stable in their adult lives, they’ll run into each other.

a/n: aight guys I’m not dead! i haven’t really had the time to write much, but aaron tveit lives in my heart rent free so here’s these dumb kinda specific really long headcanons:

so you both probably met pretty early into aaron’s career

it’s probably safe to say both of you would have the same if not similar careers, broadway and acting

and though aaron was lucky enough to get his big break, you had unfortunately not (yet) and had to wait tables for a couple years after college

Spring 2021 anime review (first impressions)

I started watching some of the new spring animes coming out and wanted to give my opinion of them so far (I saw someone do this and I wanted to do my version as well). Enjoy!

Don't toy with me, Miss Nagatoro:

This anime is basically just a slice of life but with the two main leads being a nerdy boy and a sadistic girl. Honestly the anime wasn’t what I was expecting considering the controversy around this before it came out. I actually really enjoy the show and while some of the scenes are a little weird overall I think it’s beautifully animated and brings something a little different to the romance anime category. I really recommend this one to people who like romances and slice of life’s but a little warning if teasing and some light bully aspects effect you. (I didn’t think it was too bad but to people who are sensitive to those topics maybe pass on this one)

Mars red:

I LOVE THE ANIMATION ITS SUCH A LIKE COMFORTING STYLE ANIMATION. The first episode was kinda boring to me but THAT OUTRO AND INTRO im so Interested in how the plot is going to pan out but overall it’s such a vibey show like this whole thing feels like a warm Thursday night under the stars and idk how else to explain it. The vampires are cool and I’m glad they are doing something different with the plot instead of using the tired plot points of all shows with vampires in it.

Rating so far: 8/10

Odd taxi: 

This reminds me of a mix between durarara and beastars vibes. I think it’s such a chill anime but with underlying mysteries and stories playing out behind the scenes. I wasn’t really into it at first but the whole show has a very rainy night mood with it and it does the show well. There is so much stuff unexplained and so many little side stories that I can’t wait to see how they get tied it. Plus I like the main character, he literally reminds me of a cranky old grandpa and it’s nice seeing his perspective on things. Also the little bit of humor is really cute.

Rating so far: 7.9/10

Shadows house: 

I’m a big fan of the whole living doll thing in the anime and I love the idea of living shadows. I think it’s very different but really good and the whole theme is great. The show is more slice of life than I thought but I think it’s going to get more horror aspects which I’m excited to see. Overall it’s cute but the dark undertones are so cool and I’m invested. ALSO THE INTRO AND OUTRO SMACKS GOSH ITS SO GOOD ESP THE OUTRO JUST LOOK IT UP PLZ

To you eternity: 

wow. Literally just wow. Um this anime so far has been beautiful and amazing. I genuinely love this show so much so far and have cried during all episodes :). I literally have like no words just the story telling and animation is PERFECT IS SO BEAUTIFUL OH MY GOSH. I RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE LITERALLY ITS SO GOOD

Tokyo revengers: 

ngl I didn’t think I would like this anime and the first part of the first episode was very boring to me but honestly I really love this show so far. Not the direction I thought this was going to go (I tried to not do too much research) but after the second episode, I’m so hooked. I really enjoyed the shows concept idea and love the whole “uwu sad boy finally sticking up for himself” troupe going on. I thought I was going to hate the main character because at first he just seems like such a depressing spineless guy, which I’m being a little harsh it’s not that bad. Anyways The main character is actually not annoying or anything and I love that there is already character development in the first episodes. Overall I really recommend this anime just for the story itself. I can’t wait to see more and how the plot unfolds.

I’m so happy there is a lot of different and more unique art styles throughout this spring season. I genuinely love new art styles and just new concepts in general and it’s really cool actually keeping up with all of these shows so far! (Also I am up to date with all episodes release so these are all based off what I’ve seen) Anyways hope you enjoyed❤️

persona 5 strikers thoughts and feelings

This is going to be a long post. Like, the type of post you’d only really have time to read when you’re trying to sleep but you’re not ready to be unconscious yet so you’re just looking for something to do to spend your time with minimal effort. 

So in 2018, a masterpiece was born into the world: Into the Spider-verse was released and it was amazing—it’s honestly the best spiderman movie we have without a doubt, and it’ll be very far into the future before Spider-verse is beaten as the best spiderman movie. Them’s the facts. Then in 2019, Spider-man: Far From Home was dropped. It’s a great movie! Great characters, great continuation of who these characters are and works fantastic as a continuation of a story. It’s really hard trying to take the torch of a previous movie (or in Marvel’s case, juggling twenty something movies) and come up with a new movie that both works on its own, as well as being the next step in this series of films. Thus, with that idea in mind, I think it’s kind of unfair to judge into the spiderverse and far from home, because these are two movies with two completely different objectives in mind. 

Okay, so this is still a persona 5 strikers post, I promise, but the idea is the same: Persona 5 could basically do whatever it wanted—new story, new characters, new everything, and it’s just plain old awesome. However, Persona 5 strikers did not have that sort of freedom. It was bound to the original game, and it had its own rules and stuff it had to keep intact, characters they had to work with, and on top of that, it had to justify its existence as a sequel (lets pretend money doesnt exist lmfao). 

SO, the big question is: did it do that? Did it justify its existence? 

And my answer: holy fuck did it ever do that

I came into this game knowing the extreme bare minimum. I knew there was someone named Sophia, and i knew there was roadtrip, and i knew there were Personas. That’s my knowledge of it before i played it on the Switch.  I should also clarify like, early on, that i was not expecting anything from this game. At all. I was the world’s biggest cynic of this game—if you scroll down my p5s tag far enough, youll just see me complaining about a game that hasn’t even come out yet. I was fully expecting to have this be a Waifu show, and any male character that isn’t Akira to just be shoved aside like some kind of nerd in a high school hallway, and i have never been more pleased to be wrong. In fact, i actually owe it an apology, because of how fucking rude i was for no reason!!! Because this game deserves everything to be honest. 

Persona 5 strikers is, frankly, insane. Insane in the sense that it got to pull shit off that just would never have existed in the original game, because the original game is scared. It had to be as impressive as possible and garner as much attention as possible. Strikers does not have that problem—every single person who bought that game does not need to be convinced that persona 5 is a good game. They already played it. That means Atlus can just fuck around and have a good time, and man did they have a good time. There’s still scenes that still shock me if i think about it too hard, because i’m used to atlus having to follow this sort of rule set when it comes to persona 5 (or any of the main games im assuming, but i havent played them.) And on top of that, there’s still shit that’s Atlus Trademarked Branded in a good way. The style of story of story telling, and revealing the mystery that is so integral to what p5 is, is still there. 

So, to make this even a little bit comprehensible, i will make a list! 

First of all, What is this game?

In short, this game is an OVA of an anime. It’s bonus side content that has one thing in mind: to showcase these lovable characters more by putting them in fun situations. That’s it, and it is just phenomenal. That was the main point of, i’d say, like forty hours of the game. It’s just fun times with fun characters. 

But to get deeper of what i think is happening, or what they were thinking during the development, is that this is a second opportunity. Persona 5 (as we all know) had a lot of problems, and we were not quiet about those problems. We yelled it all out, made posts, made complaints on every social media platform ever. And Atlus heard all of them, and Strikers is a way to mitigate those mistakes. Aside from being a fun OVA, Strikers also works to be a deeper exploration of these characters—more specifically, the characters that did not receive much in the original game. Creating this sequel is having the ability to redo what they felt (or to be more specific, we felt) in the original game while adding new ones. I will get to that in a second.  

The format of the game 

Absolutely brilliant to throw them on a road trip. P5V already forced us to experience Shibuya for 200+ hours, and im so glad that they didn’t do that again. Going from town to town, making us experience these new places alongside our favorite characters is so good, and it just makes sense. It’s fun, it’s lighthearted, and it’s actually shockingly good. But one thing i do want to talk about early on is the way the story unfolds and the villains that they use, and what they do with it because it’s very interesting. 

So as we explore japan and stuff, we encounter jails, and with those jails comes an antagonist. This antagonist works to be a parallel to one of our characters. That character will find it in their hearts to feel bad for the antagonist, because the antagonist could have been them had the original game not happen. At first I thought all of the thieves were gonna get an antagonist, and i was really hyped for the ryuji one. And then came to hour forty of the game where i realized “yeah that’s not gonna happen. There’s just not enough time.” And i was right, and the game ended. But i am not salty at all, honestly, because the people who got a direct antagonist were: Ann, Yusuke, and Haru. (we wont count zen and sophie). 

Is there a trend??? Yes. these are all characters in the original game that have received the worst treatment by atlus. The three of them are basically cast aside the minute they finished their original arc, and its horrible! BUT that’s why this is the path that atlus chose for them—to give them more depth, and screentime, and a way to show their inner self. That isn’t to say that the ones who aren’t those three (makoto, futaba, mona, akira, ryuji) didn’t get anything. Futaba still has her thing at the end with ichinose, and she was very prevalent and animated during the rest of the game. Mona and Akira have to be a focal points, that’s just the nature of the game. The other two though, I will talk about in depth in a second.  

Makoto

Y’all i poke fun at shumako fans sometimes cause its kind of easy and fun, but i honestly love makoto. In my very first playthrough of p5 (my first ever jrpg game, first persona game, i had no idea what i was doing), i had only maxed out two characters: ryuji and makoto. And i know she had a lot of screentime and love in the original game which is great, but i truly felt like she was dissed in this game. Her only roles were

A driver

Someone to tell them “we don’t have a choice. Let’s keep going and see where this takes us.” (seriously, if you replay this game, you will see how much she does this)

Idk, i just wish she had more to do, especially compared to how much love they gave the other characters. 

But let’s talk about some of the new characters! 

Zenkichi

Damn you atlus. Damn you and your insistence at bringing in cop characters. I was fully on board with hating zenkichi, i was fucking ready for it. I was convinced that there was nothing they could do convince to like zenkichi. I was immune to their copaganda. 

And then i ended up loving him, which makes me sad a little bit. I didn’t realize how desperate i was to have an adult who has a persona. Someone who wants the world to change just as much as they do, while still having that aspect of them that makes them adult. Like??? As someone who is technically an adult, its a breath of fresh air. An adult. Who fights. For justice. Using a persona. And god i love akane so much, and her obsession with the thieves (that scene is probably in my top ten fave scenes of the game). Also what i loved about zenkichi is that he fucking hates the cops!! He hates the system of the cops!! And thats why i actually really started to love him!! Because i thought it was atlus saying that the systematic problem of the police cannot be solved by one person, and zenkichi threw away his badge. I actually cried at that part!! 

But then he became a cop again, and i was just :/ but as a character, i really love him to bits and would love to do a study on him, or at least use him as an outside pov. But! i absolutely love his persona, since im a les miserables fan hehe

Sophia 

she’s probably my favorite new aspect of the game. I was ready to not like her—again, i just suck like that, lmfao—and when i saw her, i was scared that she was just another waifu. I mean, she was very cute after all. But then as the game went on, i thought she was a little too cute. And even further into the game, i finally slapped myself in the face and realized oh my god shes not a waifu. Shes a sister. 

That blew my mind, im ngl to you. A female character that isn’t supposed to be romanced? By jove, what a miracle! 

And she…is an amazing character. Im sorry, i just love her so much. I love her so much that she  probably ranks as my fifth or sixth favorite character which is surprising even to me. Everything about her is delightful and invigorating. She’s funny??? Her comedic timing is amazing, and she has such chemistry with the rest of the team. She’s actually useful to the plot, and while her character design is a little too on the nose for me in terms of cuteness (i mean, good god she’s wearing oversized sweater to show how cute and tiny she is, and her hair has literal hearts in it), she is absolutely lovable. 

But what i actually really wanna gush about for a second is sophia at the last stage of the game. You get the idea, i dont really like to get excited over things, so at this point i figured that there was nothing this game could do to shock me. 

And then sophia had a persona awakening. 

Like. holy fuck did i yell. I didnt realize what was happening until the music had already kicked in. and its just so fucking smart!!! Sophia??? The ai?? With no heart?? gOT A PERSONA???? AWAKENING??? BECAUSE SHE LEARNED WHAT THE HEART IS AND THE PASSION THAT YOU NEED IN ORDER TO GET A PERSONA??? I started crying honestly, because it was just so smart. And looking back on it now, its obvious!! Of course it would lead to this, it only made sense that the culmination of her character arc leads to her getting a persona, nothing else would have been as good. Also, her voice actor is just amazing?? When she was talking to ichinose at the end, i actually got incredibly emotional because of the line reads. Its just so spot on and it really captures the essence of sophia.

Muah. five stars Atlus. You got me. 

Ryuji <3!!!!

Oh man. Oh boy. Okay. so where do i start. 

Yall know i love him. Hes probably my favorite fictional male character of all time, and he is the one i was the absolute most cynical about in this game. I was expecting literally nothing. Nothing. Like. nothing. I thought he was just gonna keep being used as a joke, or a gag, and he’s gonna be super horny all the time for the other girls and it was gonna make me mad and there was gonna be some insane homophobic/queerphobic jokes in every other scene and i know i was being unfair, but i cant help it. 

And then i played the first two hours of the game, and i cried the entire time. Because ryuji has never been better than he is in this game. Its crazy. 

The ryuji in persona 5 strikers is who ryuji should have been/how he should have been treated this entire time. From the actual funny jokes (for example, the gold bar joke + his reaction to it in the beginning of the game), defending his female friends instead of being the one people need to defend from (natsume arc), and the fact that he was the one to be there with morgana and akira in the very beginning of the game. Its such a small thing that they didnt even need to do, but it was such an integral part of the original game for me, that i just was convinced that nothing like this was going to happen. But then it happened. Its just small stuff like that that could have been overlooked but it wasn’t because this game? Persona 5 strikers? Fucking loves ryuji. 

The actual respect they gave this boy is insane and i wasn't ready for it. Like, they gave the shujin trio lunch, they gave the little charm of the katana when they were in natsume’s jail, and, in my opinion this is the second-best thing that they could have given ryuji is sophia. Ryuji and sophia are the pinnacle of a brother & sister bonding relationship in the game that isn’t akira & futaba. And its really prevalent too?? Small stuff from the beginning of the game (pulling her out of a jail, calling her shorty), but then you have the iconic “shut the fuck up” scene, and that scene was so well characterized and written and voice acted, that somehow him saying “fuck” was the least exciting part of that scene to me. Ryuji is an older brother to her, like its undoubtable, and its only further cemented at the end of the game where Ryuji helps out ichinose because he knows how much sophia cares about her. This game. Love ryuji. And i love. This game. 

You know what else i love? Akiryu. 

Guys. i was fully prepared to starve in terms of akiryu. But theres just. So much of it. I wont get too deep into it, because i think this aspect of the game for me still needs marinate a little bit. Like, what was that last shot when EMMA died and Ryuji walked to approach Akira so they could relish in their victory together?? And the smile from both of them??? What the fuck. That was amazing. Also Joker being saved by Ryuji when he was about to fall from the cliff to save sophia??? WHAT. The LEADER AND HIS RIGHT HAND MAN? WHAT. anyway. If theres anything i want to keep for myself in my own brain, its the akiryu aspect of this game, so i wont talk too much about that part of things (instead, itll probably manifest in fic lmfaooo). 

Sure, there’s tidbits of stuff i dont like that they gave ryuji: sexualizing ann in that one cut scene and making him touch the jails even though it hurts, and i recognize those and frown at them, but for the most part, i am blown away with how they treated him.

Basically, Ryuji has never been better. From the opening of the game with him being the first text message and the one to sling his arm around akira, to the very last cut scene where it was ryuji wordlessly leaving because he’s so confident that they would never be separated for long, this game adores Ryuji and i am so so happy to say that.

The Royal aspect of things

Yeah, i had to talk about this, but itll be a short thing i just wanted to point out. Because the last part of this game...is persona 5 royal. Which is curious. Like taking reality and giving that power to someone else so you dont have to experience suffering anymore? And even like, the final section just looked a lot like the top half of maruki’s palace?? And whats even crazier is that we had a boss fight with sophia, just like how we had a boss fight with sumire? Royal and Strikers have like, the same thesis statement. It’s kind of uncanny.It’s interesting, it’s like atlus came up with these two ideas, and then just decided they liked both of them so much that they just did it twice. I don’t mind though—actually, in terms of how the last Palace/Jails go, i probably like them both about equally. 

Though i did love the final battle in this one more than i did in royal. Splitting into teams?? Thats cool as fuck, and really innovative and i didnt see it coming. It also kicked my ass. A lot. 

Now for the last stretch: the small stuff!

The music — bomb as fuck. In my heart, Daredevil is ranked the same as Rivers. Axe to grind is also amazing, but Daredevil owns me

Akechi — i really debated whether or not to talk about him, but i figured a bullet point should be enough. Im really shocked that he wasnt in this at all. Like not even a name drop. If this is an OVA, and the point of the game is to please the fans, and akechi is arguably the fan favorite character, i was really ready for something. But there was nothing, except for the pancake hallway if that even counts as a reference. Thats it. Thats all i wanted to say about him.

The humour — FUCKING HILARIOUS im convinced that in my fifty hour playtime, five of that is dedicated to me laughing and unable to continue the game 

Akira — so much personality! His lines of dialogue are crazy sometimes (like. Whats up with him saying Ryuji has ‘nice abs’ when they were in bath? Im crazy and even i dont know what the fuck that could mean) 

Battle system — oh my god i almost forgot to talk about this. I love it! I kind of miss the turn based aspect just because i found it very comforting for some reason, but this hack and slash style of gameplay is so invigorating because i do feel like it justifies shit like the baton pass and huge attacks.  This battle system fully encompases how the Phantom Thieves are supposed to fight, you know what i mean?

Anyway, thats my thoughts on strikers. Loved it. Amazing. 9.3/10, wouldve been higher but Konoe’s Jail almost bored me to death. Also im a monster and i didnt do any requests that isn’t a fun one, teehee. As if i play persona 5 for the persona aspect of things.

i have so. many. thoughts. i'm gonna put them under the cut bc spoilers lol

alright. so people thought that wanda stole vision's body, and we learned that it was Wrong.

when wanda interacted with the mind stone at that experiment, she also interacted with vision before he was even made. so i'm thinking the reason why wanda could feel him was because wanda carried a piece of himself in her all along. sooo when that creating the reality scene came and wanda created her own vision from that interaction with mind stone many years ago,,,,,, it was brilliant.

also vision's small note of "the place we can grow old" on that small map was too damn cute, ngl i teared up a bit. i loved wanda's goodbye to vision, by the way. that "i can't feel you" hit really deep and made me gasp, it was very touching.

wanda's favorite tv shows used as a reference in her own reality detail was so fucking good!! i literally didn't see it coming and i loved it tbh.

agatha is a bitch but we like bitches in here, her plan was also smart. she literally put wanda through her traumatic memories from the beginning to see what caused her to become this powerful to create her own reality... it was good plan, let's agree on that.

VISION'S BODY ACTIVATED WITH WANDA'S POWERS?? *sweats* OHHHHH FUCK. that means we're in for an emotional action scene on next week's episode. in fact, we might get another scene like creating the reality in that episode due to: Emotions. and i think that's when that Big Cameo is gonna happen.

all in all, it was great episode. actually episode eight might be my favorite one so far. i really liked how they showed us wanda's past.
