Japanese Anemone Windflower 🌸 I am finally taking this off my list to write about on the website. Unfortunately, I can’t take credit for growing these from seed or bareroot because they were in the garden. Surrounded by beautiful hostas and a few new additions to this part sun garden the bees zoom around enjoying the flowers. Check out the video that shows how this plant makes the space sing in late summer to autumn on my website today! link: https://brenhaas.com/japanese-anemone-windflower/ Thank you for taking the time to check this out friends! #perennials #gardening #autumncolor #pink #easytogrow #gardenchat #brenhaas #blogpost #vlog #howtogarden #flowers #floweringplants #ohio https://www.instagram.com/p/CT2rcAGL_VW/?utm_medium=tumblr

Hey, here's a little walk through on how to sow smallish seeds such as Lettuce, Pak Choi and Tomatoes in a pot.
Sowing in pots, seed trays or modules can be a great way of growing if you plan to prick out or transplant you veg once they have germinated.
Doing it this way means that you don't have to thin out the seed bed, you reduce the likilhood of pests and diseases damaging seedlings and you can make better use of bed space.
Here's the steps for the photos.... In this pot I sowed Lettuce:
1. Overfill a pot, seed trays or module tray with compost.
2. Tap the pot down to consolidate the compost and use a flat piece of wood or your hand with a sawing motion to push excess compost off.
3. Firm the compost down using a piece of wood that's been cut to the same shape as your container or the bottom of a similar size and shaped pot. The compost should be just below the rim of the pot for small seeds.
4. Get your seeds out of the packet!
5. Carefully sow the seeds evenly over the surface of the compost.
6 and 7. Use a sieve to cover your seeds to the rim of the pot with compost. Carefully remove any excess compost being careful not to remove seeds that are buried just under the surface.
7. Water the pot gently. Be careful not to let water puddle, otherwise the seeds will float away.
8. Wait for the seeds to germinate!

☀️ 🍅 summer bounty What I learned from gardening the first time is that 🍅 should’ve planted tomatoes separately in their own containers and not in the main planter with the kale and arugula sans herbs 🌿 NEVER NEVER plant mint in the main planter with other plants = SUICIDE = WEEDS ☞︎ they need to be contained by themselves or they will steal all the nutrients 😡 🌱 Basils can be planted underneath the tomato plants for shade and foliage to survive the heatwave 🔥 👧🏻 gardening is a nice family activity and kids/parents love seeing their plant babies grow! 🔜 What should I plant next for the Fall season? — — #instanomss #vegetables #howtogarden #pollinatorgarden #grownfromseed #containergarden #vegetablegarden #gardenersofinstagram#freshfromthegarden#gyo#thisweekoninstagram #grownfromseed #tomato #tomatoes #containergardening #organicgardening (at Vancouver, British Columbia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CR2mm_4M8Tj/?utm_medium=tumblr

Not the neatest flower, but it is very pretty and a rich colour. I bought a straggly plant of Pelargonium ‘Cola Bottles’ last year (you can guess the scent of the foliage). . Dedicated to the divine AMP @myrealgarden in thanks for my pic earlier. . It was outside in a pot all winter, which it survived with aplomb. As it was a messy shape, I have been removing stems back since it came back into leaf and it is improving in shape. . This is the first flower to open. There are many more buds yet to open, so hoping for big things. . #pelargonium #cola #scentedleafpelargonium #scentedleaf #notageranium #gardenproject #gardeningadvice #gardenista #gardeningtips #plants #iplantsman #mygarden #mygardentoday #flowers #pink #scentedleaves #garden #plantingdesign #howtogarden (at Crowborough, East Sussex) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAlePvMgP2j/?igshid=1tec8o0gs9l24

SITE ANALYSIS : SOIL (Part 2) Succulents or drought tolerating plants do survive in well drained loamy soil, but their original adaptation would have been to sand or dry clay soil. Similarly each plant would have adapted to certain type of soil, and novice gardeners would find it hard to identify what the plant needs. Hence a general mixture of Clay, Sand and Silt with organic matter known as Loamy soil is preferred for a wide range of purposes. How to make your soil loamy? Clay soil : Mix lot of compost and add sand (if available ) 1:3 ratio, you can also add cocopeat, vermiculite or perlite too. Sandy Soil : Mix only compost in ratio of 1:1, if possible use from varied sources like vermi compost, leaf compost, animal waste compost etc By doing so you're providing them good water retention, aeration and importantly drainage. As a *general rule of thumb* you can use this trick to identify your soil type. Hold the soil in your palm, clench your fingers and release. 1. If its hard and forms a definite shape it's clay 2. If it completely loses shape and flows like particles it's Sandy 3. If it partially retains shape but crumbles loosely then it's Loamy and good soil. Hope this helps you understand about soil. Please let us your thoughts or questions. #goodsoil #soilproperties #learngardening #learnwithcherry #soilhealth #sand #clay #redsoil #shape #shapes #plan #gardenplan #howtogarden #cherryplants #ilovegardens #smallgardens https://www.instagram.com/p/B_OXvSbAlCb/?igshid=2ycqfjvldvch

Getting to Know Your Garden Soil!
Here’s a few  gardening tip’s and tricks to help you enhance your garden’s foundation.
1. Raw Egg The solution for a thriving plant may be as simple as planting a raw egg. As you prepare your pots with soil, simply include a single raw egg at the bottom. Over time, the egg will decompose and works as a natural fertilizer for the seedlings. You can also use crushed eggshells which work just as good as whole egg. Eggshell has calcium, nitrogen and phosphoric acid which make them an ideal choice for garden use. So next time you boil or fry an egg don’t throw away the egg shell but instead Recycle them to grow seedlings. When the seedling is ready to be planted outside, place the shell and seedling directly in the ground. The eggshell will decompose over time and help fertilize the soil. 2. Banana Skins Bananas contain a number of nutrients including potassium, phosphate, sulfur, calcium, magnesium and sodium. All of these things can help promote healthy growing for plants. best way to effectively use banana peels is to cut them up into small pieces so that they can decompose faster. This will result in organic matter that helps establish rich soil 3. Ash If you have a fireplace, you'll love this free method for raising pH levels. you simply scatter the ash around the soil as a way to lower acidic levels. This will make it easier to grow a fresh crop. 4. Leaves Allowing leaves to rot over a garden during winter will provide nutrients for the soil to prepare it for the next growing season. The leaves work to pull the organic matter back down into the soil making it dark and rich. 5. Epsom Salt Epsom salts are especially good for soil. Low pH levels are usually an indication of a magnesium imbalance. To boost pH levels in the soil, dilute Epsom salt with water and spray on the plants. The vegetation will soak up the welcomed nutrients.   6.Use Compost Regularly While using bits and pieces of natural matter can be helpful, combining many pieces of compost will only go one step further toward enriching your soil. There are a number of benefits of using natural compost regularly it works to improve the soil structure while using less water and warding off common plant diseases. The soil benefits from added layers of nutrients, especially before a growing season.

Hey, making new plants is really easy! Dividing them is a great way to establish new plants quickly.
Spring and Autumn are the best times to divide plants. Summer can be too stressful because of the dry weather and the fact that the plant is in full growth. Winter is fine but it's a bit trickier when you can't see the shoots as easily.
Not all plants can be divided, but pretty much every herbaceous or evergreen plant that has multiple growth points from the base can be.
In these photos I divided some herbs. They were Chives, Oregano, Mint and Lemon Verbena.
Here are the steps:
1. Either dig your plant out of the ground or remove it from the pot it's in.
2. If it's got weeds or moss around the crown, remove them
3. Cut the plant into half, quarters, eighths or as many sections as you think you can get away with. You might need to trim some roots to make it easier to replant or repot.
4. Either replant or pot up and you're done! Don't forget to put some organic fertiliser down and water everything. I used poultry manure this time.
