Walker Funeral Home
Near the intersection of Central and Monroe in Toledo stand a pair of nondescript white buildings. They don’t look particularly strange, but according to many former employees, both are quite authentically haunted by the ghosts of former clients, the dead and dying. Unexplained noises and strange, moving shadows are among the weird things said to manifest themselves here at night.
The place has been many incarnations. It has been the Walker Funeral Home, then a private ambulance company, and then it stood abandoned for two years. Today, it’s an insurance company. In the funeral home days, the dead were embalmed and memorialized here, but not always in the most conventional sense.
One example involved an October 29, 1960, plane crash at Toledo Airport which killed twenty-two people, including sixteen players from the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo football team, who had just lost to Bowling Green, 50-6. The plane carrying the California team tried to take off in a thick fog but made it just three hundred feet in the air before its left engine went out. The plane crashed into an orchard and split in two. (The sixteen deaths made it America’s worst sports-related air tragedy until that time, but it would not be Ohio’s last. On November 14, 1970, the entire Marshall College football team was killed in a plane crash in Huntington, West Virginia.) Some or all of the bodies of the crash victims were brought to the Walker Funeral Home temporarily and spent the night there under the watch of employees. According to stories we’ve heard, the ghosts of these young men may have stayed behind, along with those of some other victims.
Former Owner Returns
I used to work in that building for the ambulance company in the early ‘80s, and there was a lot of spirit activity at that time. Victims of a place crash who were brought there in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s still hung out in the basement and would knock things off walls, open and close doors, or just take a walk. The wife of the former owner of the ambulance company told me who the spirits were; she was there the night they were brought in. After the former owner (Gene Spradling) passed away, he was also seen. I was visiting a friend there one night, and Gene walked right through the hallway. My (ex) husband and I both saw it. -Letter via e-mail
Gino’s Ghost Haunts the Office
One building is said to be haunted by the ghost of a man who had a heart attack while working there for the Walker Funeral Home. We call the ghost Gino for the man’s first name. While stationed there, we heard many footsteps above us at night where his office had been. One time, we had to leave the building altogether because we heard what sounded like a basketball dribbling upstairs getting stronger and louder until paint from the ceiling began falling on us. One female that work there woke up screaming one night saying she felt someone touch her and then saw an older fat guy run for the stairs. This was enough to get me to leave again, and this is only one of the buildings.
The adjacent building was the site of many more hauntings I’ve heard about. My own experience is the only one that kept recurring. Most nights as, as we were returning to quarters from a run, my partner and I would scope the parking lot for vagrants or people who shouldn’t be there before we opened the bay doors. On more than one occasion, we would see a light on, on the top floor in the adjacent building, and each time, a young woman in a dress would come to the window and stare at us. One night, after seeing the figure, we got brave and called some law enforcement friends from the area to help us search the building. We went to the room that had the light on, expecting to find a vagrant camped out there. The only thing we found was a room that had untouched dust on the floor and no lightbulbs in the sockets. We got the willies and split. We never went back into that building at night. -Anonymous

At least something is being done. Hopefully this passes and DeWine is smart enough to sign it. Not holding out too much hope, though, since he’s saying this crap:
Gov. Mike DeWine said when Ohio drops down to 50 cases per 100,000 people for two weeks, all health orders would be lifted, including the mask mandate.
Currently, the Ohio Department of Health is reporting 155 cases per 100,000 people.
Fuck that. What an arbitrary number. End the unconstitutional mask mandates now.
