cycle syncing tip:
estrogen (increasing in follicular and ovulatory phases) is kept stable with FAT. Healthy fats (ghee, avocados, olives, fatty fish, olive oil, MCT oil etc.) keep blood sugar stable. Along with increased fiber to usher out excess estrogen, FAT & FIBER during these phase create hormonal stability and calm and decrease symptoms of estrogen dominance.
progesterone (rises in the Luteal phase to keep the endometrial lining intact in case of pregnancy) is kept stable with increased calories, specifically WHOLE FOOD CARBS (sweet potato, sweet plantain, ripe fruit etc.). I always imagine progesterone like a bear; you need to feed it and let it rest. Feeding progesterone lengthens the time between ovulation and your bleed and keeps PMS symptoms at bay

Hi dear! First of all, the mandatory reminder that I am not a doctor so you should always pair your consultations to traditional authorities and folk healers (curanderos, yerberos, rootworkers, etc) with a visit to the corresponding doctor or licensed medical professional.
Also, always, always research each of these herbal allies before consumption and look for dosages, contraindications and drug interactions. You need to be making educated choices regarding what you're drinking and why, and how it's going to affect your body. Check with a professional when in doubt, describe to them your goals and why you want to use said herbal ally.
With that being said, yes, I have some recommendations. If you're the type to enjoy tea (and who isn't!) you can try drinking adaptogens in the morning, that is, herbal allies that help your body deal with inner and outer stressors and normalize everything. There's an immense variety of them, my personal favorite is mate (Ilex paraguariensis), which is common here in south america but other popular choices are ginseng (Panax ginseng) and ashwagandha (Withania somnifera).
Depending on what the other symptoms are (if you're anxious, depressed, have headaches or bleeding between periods, etc) there's different herbs that may help to adress the source of each of those issues. St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum) is common for depression, irritability and anxiety related to hormonal and reproductive health issues but has many drug interactions so consult with a doctor first. Chamomile works better for me personally, and has almost to no side effects or contraindications, but it is milder than st. john's wort and works in your body differently too. Each person's needs are different. Damiana (Turnera aphrodisiaca, Turnera diffusa) is a good hormone balancer and nervine, but it's not recommended for long-term use. Hoffmann recommends Vitex agnus-castus as a overall hormonal normalizer regardless of what hormone is causing issues, but says any bitter tonic can help, and there's many depending on which systems and symptoms you want to adress alongside the mood swings.
Basically, we'd need to see what other symptoms alongside mood swings you have and what the source of the issue is (if it's a specific hormone or stressor or what's the trigger to the problems you're facing, so we can know which systems we need to be addressing more holistically), while also being careful to not cause any harmful interactions with drugs or medication you may already be taking for these or other issues. Herz got to have her new comfy bed to lay on at my endocrinologist appointment today!
I think the appointment went really well. We discussed the vertigo issues that have been re-emerging along with the joint pain. She wants me to slow down on my taper, so I'm going to stay at this dose for a couple of months. I need to keep my patience hat on and not rush into anything. I'm so used to pushing through feeling bad that I am rushing taper, thus not giving my body the time it needs to adjust.
We're doing a LOT of bloodwork: full thyroid panel, adrenals, testosterone (no point in doing estrogen since my menstrual cycle is regular for the first time in my life), vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, and DHEA
I LOVE not producing hormones *sarcasm*
Having a doctor who actually listens to me and is willing to work with me is such a game changer.

Cortisol is what helps regulate your metabolism, blood sugar levels, memory function and reduces inflammation. Cortisol is great.
BUT if you’re someone who is consistently stressed, have pituitary gland issues or are on certain medication, there’s a chance your cortisol levels may be high.
Signs your cortisol levels may be high:
- weight gain, mostly around the midsection and upper back
- weight gain and rounding of the face
- fatty deposits between shoulder blades
- deep purple stretch marks on your abdomen
- easy bruising
- muscle weakness
- severe fatigue, easily tired
- irritability
- increased anxiety levels
- difficulty concentrating
- high blood pressure
- headaches
- thinning hair
- difficulty waking up/low energy in the mornings and difficulty falling asleep/high energy at night
So what can you do?
- Let’s get it checked out by a doctor before we worry and add onto the stress.
- Identify stress triggers. Keep a stress diary and write down the fact. Then analyze what about the situation caused you a negative reaction.
- Learn to recognize thoughts that cause stress.
- Pay attention to the quality of your sleep.
- Exercise regularly. Try more low impact exercises and preferably avoid exercising at least 2 hours before bedtime.
- Find something to do. Try out different hobbies. Gardening, journaling, crocheting, art, learning something new, tufting, baking, pottery. The list is endless!
- Laugh often. A study published in 2008 found that even the anticipation of laughter leads to a decrease in blood levels of cortisol, as well as two other stress hormones, adrenaline, and norepinephrine.
- Get a pet. A study showed that interaction with animals affects stress and found that long-term interaction with dogs, even strangers, as well as pet ownership, has a positive effect on cortisol levels. In addition, the interaction between owner and dog increases the level of oxytocin in both.
- Eat more cortisol-lowering foods. Think dark chocolate, probiotics, black tea, green tea, avocados, green leafy vegetables, berries, bananas, nuts and seeds.
- Spend time in nature. A simple walk around the neighborhood, walking barefoot in the grass, birdwatching, gardening, a walk in the park! Just being outside and doing some deep breathing will work wonders.

What Is Precocious Puberty & How Can Hormones Help?
Puberty that happens too early is called “precocious puberty”. This means a child's physical signs of sexual maturity develop too soon, sometimes as early as 8-9 years old. This includes breast growth, pubic hair, and voice changes. These are known as secondary sexual characteristics. Sometimes, this is the result of CAH (Congenital Adrenal hyperplasia) a common form of Intersex. Precocious puberty happens before age 8 in girls, and before age 9 in boys. Most children with the disorder grow fast at first. But they also stop growing before reaching their full genetic height potential.
Gonadotropin-stimulating hormone (GnRH) is made by the hypothalamus in the brain. It causes the pituitary gland to release gonadotropins. These then cause sex hormones to be made by the ovaries in girls, or the testes in boys. The GnRH blood test may show the type of precocious puberty. Luteinizing hormone (LH), Follicle stimulation hormone (FSH), A form of estrogen called estradiol, Testosterone, Thyroid hormones.
