“I have no idea who it could be.” Kuroo leaned back, starting to forget that you were there and present when he dived into his thoughts.
“Didn’t you just say he got a love letter from her, Yaku.” Lev asked, kicking his feet out from under himself to get comfortable for the seemingly long thought process.
“I was messing with you, dumbass. She never gave any of us one of her letters. They were therapeutic, not romantic.” he gave a softer kick than he had in the past to Lev’s thigh. “If I had to take a guess, I’d say Inuoka.”
“Why me, Yakkun?” So looked confused, taking a bite of a pastry. “I’d say you over all of us.”
“It’s the way you always knew she was down, and when she needed a hug vs when she needed her space. You were like a little emotional support puppy, and I know she liked kind guys like that. Especially the way she holds onto you.” Yaku took a drink of his can, “Why me?”
“You were the first to get her kisses.” Inuoka answered. “You were, well are, always confident and logical. Until you got that first kiss anyway.”
“Oh yeah, I remember.” He smirked.
“You’re fucking face that day was golden, dude.” Kuroo started laughing hard at the memory, soon the rest of the boys did as well.
“It was that game against Nohebi for the represented spot.” Yaku looked out the window into the night sky fondly. “After I got hurt, and after we won. The excitement, the adrenaline, I can still remember that first kiss. It was so soft.”
“You think about it a lot?” You asked from the kitchen table, he turned to you with a smile, and a simple nod.
“So then it’s Yaku?” Lev turned to you with a curious gaze, pouting when you raised your eyebrow at took a drink.
“Nah, even if I was the first to get her kisses, I wasn’t the only one. Kenma was after me.” Yaku turned to his former setter.
“Don’t drag me into this.”
“You just asked her for confirmation that it was one of us!” Kuroo teased.
“It could be you, you know.”
“What do you mean?”
“You’re always the first person she calls when she needs something, any time or day and you’re always there within minutes to her rescue.” Kenma picked up his game, “after Yaku left for Russia anyway.”
“I agree that it could be you though Kenma,” Kuroo started, looking at his friend for a reaction. “You were the first person to start staying over when she got her apartment, and the first person to get to sleepover after a chat stream with her.”
“Does anyone think it could be Lev? or Yamamoto?” You chimed in, looking to get there gears running.
“Oh.. you two did have that dance in the rain. That was kind of romantic.” Inuoka turned to Lev.
“I forgot about that, in our third year.”
“How do you forget something like that you damn idiot.” Yaku spat, kicking Lev, “I’d kill for a memory like that.”
“It was super dorky and awkward, no you don’t.” Inuoka started, “she was in the area after visiting her parents and it started pouring, Lev held the umbrella but it broke and started panicking. He fell over onto her in a puddle!” He was cackling. Yaku ready to kill Lev for his stupidity. “He stood up, apologizing profusely when she just took his hand and tossed him into the puddle too. When they stood they started laughing, and she just grabbed his hands and started swinging in circles.”
Yamamoto started cackling, he had never heard this story before.
“If I’m being honest, I don’t think it’s Yamamoto.” Kuroo turned, “Sorry to say, but you did treat her differently than anyone else.”
“That’s exactly why it could be him.” Kenma pointed out, “He didn’t freak out with her all the time the way he did with Karasuno’s managers. He was a little more respectful, even if he was still a handful.”
“Of course I was. She was our manager and I didn’t want to make her uncomfortable.” he took a second to think, “I remember how sad she was when I asked her why she seemed so upset one time, after I did freak out a little over how attractive Karasuno was. That was when I learned about her insecurities and tried to be better.”
“That’s... very mature and didn’t think of it that way.” Kuroo smiled, “Touché.”
“There are more memories, but these seem to be our core memories hmm? What leaves us to think she fell in love with each other?” Inuoka looked at his feet in the distance. “I really have no idea. All of us have some good memories together, and alone.”
“That may have been her point.” Kenma looked over at you, “You didn’t want to seem like you were playing favorites did you?” You shook your head, agreeing with his statement.
“I’m glad you came to this outcome yourselves.” You smiled, grabbing a handful of letters from the box after digging through them. Slowly you walked over to each boy and handed them the little folded piece of paper. They read through there letters pretty quickly, and once they were done, you sat down in front of the group of boys.
“So.... who is it?” ah, the present tense. All five boys looked at each other their letters in there hands, whoever it was. It is still is.

Burn (a short story)
The fire burned her eyes and the smoke made her cough, but she didn’t regret starting it. She had to get out of there, even if it killed her. After all, death was just another form of escape. Anywhere would be better than the two-hundred square foot shed that had been her home for the past four months.
She heard footsteps tramping across the grass, and a voice mumbled words that she couldn’t make out, but she knew it was him. She held her shirt over her mouth, trying to find breathable air. She was poised to the left of the door, opposite the hinges, waiting for her captor to become her rescuer. At last, she heard his angry, muffled voice and the click of the multitude of locks. She counted each one as her heart accelerated. One…two…three…four…five…
The door burst open, and she seized her moment. As his lanky bodied staggered into the smoke-filled room, she thrust the door into him. He staggered backwards, giving her just enough time to slip past him and out into the yard. Without even stopping to catch her breath, she took off running across the field. The sunlight burned her eyes, and she stumbled and fell, catching herself with her hands on the way down. She could hear his footsteps thundering behind her. He may have been clumsy, but it didn’t slow him down much at all.
As she scrambled to stand back up, he reached out to grab her sweatshirt, just barely snatching its hood in his slimy hand. She gasped for air as she was thrown back onto the ground. He was on top of her, and she tried to scream, but the smoke had taken her voice. Hands were swinging wildly as she tried to scratch, hit, or punch him, but his grip on her wrists was too strong. Thinking on her toes, she forced her knee up into his crotch, sending him reeling onto his back in pain. She rolled over and was on her feet again, this time sprinting at full capacity.
She continued to cough, trying to clear her throat, but she couldn’t muster up a loud enough scream. Eventually, she could hear his footsteps again. He didn’t dare call out after her for fear that someone might hear, although there didn’t appear to be any houses around for miles. When she finally made it to a road, she was nearly run over by a passing minivan. She ran after the vehicle, manically waving her arms in the air. As it sped on, her throat tightened, and it became harder for her to breathe.
Defeated, she turned around to see that he was still after her, and he wasn’t slowing down. This was it, she thought. She wondered where she would live now that her shed had burned. Would someone come to investigate the fire, or would they assume it was on purpose? Would he even bother to keep her around anymore?
When she turned her eyes back to the road, however, the minivan had turned around and was headed her way. She ran faster and waved her arms with great purpose. As it came to a stop on the side of the road, she turned around once more, but he was gone.
“Honey, are you alright?” A middle-aged man with a greying hair and a mild Midwestern accent had gotten out of the van and was cautiously making his way over to her. She could see what she assumed to be his wife and two kids staring at her from the van windows.
“What’s your name?” the man asked.
“Casey,” she said, finally finding her voice. “My name is Casey.”
“Well, Casey, can we take you somewhere? Home, perhaps?”
“Yes.” She didn’t swallow the lump in her throat, this time. “Home.”

Good Choices (Akaashi Keiji x f!reader) — 18+ MDNI
A/N— This is my first time writing something like this! I wasn't entirely sure where it was going while I wrote it, but I like where it ended up. Let me know what you think! (also if anyone wants to message me and lmk if I need to add any tw to this, pls help me I am new) WORD COUNT — about 2.5k
He was staring at you again.
You had caught the man with dark hair and deep blue eyes glancing your way multiple times that night.
You were at an arcade bar for your long-time friend’s bachelorette party. Everyone else had been throwing back shots all night, but you weren’t much of a drinker, so you only had enough to make you a little more than buzzed.
Every time you caught him staring at you, he quickly looked away, turning his attention back to the game he was watching his owl-haired friend play. You definitely weren’t looking for a relationship right now, but you couldn’t deny that he was very cute.
“Go talk to him, biiiitch,” your best friend and bride-to-be drunkenly slurred.
“What? No way,” you declared, waving a hand dismissively.
“I’m totally shitfaced and even I can tell you got the hots for him,” she giggled, slapping a hand on your shoulder. “You deserve some hot, meaningless sex with a total stranger.”
“Stop talking like that, people will hear you,” you shushed her, brushing her hand off of you.
“Oooo he’s looking this way! Hey!” she hollered at the man and waved him over, nearly knocking off her plastic tiara in the process. He looked completely flustered and you immediately felt bad for him. Your friend’s drunken antics often led to shenanigans like this.
You pulled her hand down and nodded apologetically to the man, but at the same time, you noticed his friend was waving at the two of you. The owl-haired man grabbed his dark-haired friend’s arm and practically dragged him toward the bar you were leaning against.
“Hey hey hey!” bellowed the owl-haired man.
“Hi! I’m getting married next weekend!” your friend blurted out. Before either of them could respond to that, she was summoned over to do another shot.
“Make good choices!” you called out after her. Then, you slowly turned your attention back to the two men in front of you.
“I’m Bokuto and this is Akaashi,” the owl-haired man said energetically as he grabbed his friend’s shoulders and pushed him slightly toward you.
“Uh, hi,” you uttered. “I’m y/n, nice to meet you guys.”
“I’m gonna go hang out with your drunk friends! You two have fun.” The owl-haired man called Bokuto winked and strolled away before either of you could protest.
“Don’t worry, he’s harmless,” the man called Akaashi finally spoke. He nervously rubbed the back of his neck. He was wearing a blue t-shirt with a grey collared jacket and semi-fitted dark blue jeans.
“Yeah, but she’s not,” you jested playfully. He smiled, a subtlely sweet action that made your heart beat just a little faster.
“Can I get you a drink?” Akaashi asked, waving down the bartender. Up close, you noticed how soft his hair looked and imagined running your fingers through it.
“Crown apple with cranberry,” you replied. He nodded and gave both your orders to the bartender who whipped them up quickly, passing your mixed drink to you and a beer to the man next to you. You both took a long sip.
“So, I take it you’re at a bachelorette party?” he asked, running his finger along the rim of his glass while clearly avoiding eye contact with you.
“What gave it away, the fake diamond tiara or the pink glittery sash?” You took another sip of your drink and admired his sharp jawline.
“Actually, it was the squealing, drunk women calling for more jello shots.” You nearly did a spit take as you coughed up a laugh. So he was cute and funny.
“She’s been my best friend since we were kids, although we couldn’t be less alike.” You chuckled lightly, surprised at how easy he was to talk to.
“What, you mean you don’t want sparkly props and jello shots at your bachelorette party?” The corner of his lips turned up in that sweet smile again.
“Ha! No way. If I ever get married, it’ll be very low-key.” You were already halfway done with your drink, and you felt warm and bubbly inside. You were a giggly and talkative drunk, so if you kept going, you’d be entering dangerous territory.
If he took note of your big if, he didn’t bring it up, which you were grateful for. You didn’t feel like opening that can of worms (also known as your ex-fiancé) tonight, especially with a stranger.
“So what do you do?” Akaashi asked. He spun on the barstool a little to face you. His cheeks were tinted pink. Your knees brushed for a millisecond and you felt a chill up your spine.
“I’m a landscape architect at a small, local company,” you replied, forcing out the words through your increasingly foggy brain. You finished your drink, motioned for the bartender, and asked for a glass of water. You took two big gulps, then said, “What about you?”
“I’m a manga editor.” Your jaw dropped as he rattled off a few of the manga he had worked on.
“I love those!” you gushed, reaching for his arm on the counter. You made eye contact with each other and you quickly removed your hand and placed it back in your lap. Your face was red hot, and not just because of the alcohol.
You chatted for a bit about work, hobbies, friends, etc. He played volleyball in high school, and his best friend (owl-haired Bokuto) now played professional volleyball for the MSBY Black Jackals.
While he talked, you took note of the enthusiasm in his voice when he talked about things he was passionate about. The admiration in his eyes when you talked about your friends. How intoxicatingly soft his lips looked and how fiercely his dark blue eyes bore their way into the deepest part of your heart.
Your buzz was already wearing off, so you couldn’t even blame your thoughts on the alcohol. Why were you so taken by him?
“Y/n?” Akaashi’s voice snapped you out of your thoughts.
“Sorry, what’d you say?” Your cheeks flushed, embarrassed.
“I said it looks like your friends are leaving.” He pointed to the door.
Sure enough, you glanced over to see all the ladies gathering to leave. The bride-to-be stumbled her way over to you.
“Heeeey,” she drawled. “So we’re gonna go back to the hotel now.”
“Oh ok…umm,” you paused, feeling Akaashi’s gaze on you. “I think I’ll stay here for a bit if that’s ok with you. I can catch an Uber home.”
“Of course of course girl.” She winked and leaned in for a sloppy hug. With her face next to yours, she whispered, “You better get some of that tonight.” You blushed. With a wink and a wave, she sauntered back to the group and headed out the door.
You looked at your phone to check the time. “Shit, it’s dead. So much for the Uber.”
“I can give you a ride, if you want,” Akaashi offered, fidgeting with his empty glass on the bar top.
“Oh, that’s really nice of you to offer. But what about your friend? He doesn’t seem quite ready to leave just yet.” You laughed a little as you both saw Bokuto playing skee-ball with a cute, tall brown-haired girl. He was loud and energetic, and she seemed to match his energy well. They high-fived.
“We drove separately; he’ll be ok.” Akaashi’s dark eyes were bright and eager.
A few minutes later, he opened the passenger door of his car and closed it before running around to the driver’s side. You gave him directions to your apartment, and it didn’t take long before you were idled on the curb out front. You weren’t ready to leave him yet, so it was now or never.
“Wanna walk me up?” you asked. Judging by his offer to give you a ride, you felt like he was into you, but you were awful at reading people, so you could never be sure.
“Oh, sure,” he stammered. Was his heart beating as fast as yours?
You made your way up the five flights of stairs (of course the elevator was out of service) to your apartment. Standing in front of your door, you nervously twisted your keys around your finger. The tension between you hung heavy in the air like a wet towel.
“Do you wanna see the place?” you offered.
“Sounds good to me,” he said. You led him inside your modest one-bedroom apartment.
“Can I get you something to drink?” you asked, tossing your keys on the entry table and guiding him to the kitchen.
“Water would be great,” he said, leaning his back against the counter.
You handed him a glass of water and grabbed one for yourself, leaning against the counter opposite him. You watched as his eyes scanned the room.
“It’s not much,” you confessed sheepishly.
“No, I love it,” he said sincerely. “You have so many plants; I would never be able to keep them all alive.” You both laughed.
“Yeah, most of them have come from friends over the years. I studied landscape architecture in college. Plants are kind of my thing.”
“That’s really neat.” He looked like he was biting back what he really wanted to say. You kept your gaze on him and damn he was hot. His hair, his eyes, his insanely sharp jawline. Everything about him was just so…magnetic.
“So how long have you—” he cut himself off. Then, “Oh, fuck it. God, I really want to kiss you.”
“I really want you to kiss me.” You admitted breathlessly.
He set his glass down and in two strides was standing in front of you. Without wasting time, he put his hands on your face and you buried yours in his hair (it was just as soft as you’d imagined). When your lips met, you felt like you were floating in another universe. He was soft and firm, and the way he took charge sent a shiver from your head to your toes. His tongue found yours and he tasted like beer and spearmint gum.
Eventually, you broke apart. He blushed and said, “Sorry, I don’t normally do this kind of stuff.”
You tried to catch your breath, but your heart was beating too fast.
“What do you mean? Go home with a random stranger and make out in her kitchen?”
He laughed. “Yeah, that. I’m a relationship guy, not a hook-up guy.”
“Who said anything about a hook-up?” You rested your arms around his neck. He looked puzzled.
“Oh, are we not going to…”
“Oh, we’re definitely going to. But who said it had to end there?” You grinned, and after a second, he caught on and smiled back, but it wasn’t his sweet smile anymore. This one was more…devious.
In one swift movement, he grabbed your legs and hoisted you onto the counter. He positioned himself between your legs, your dress hiked up to your waist, and pulled you close. The countertop was cold on your bare legs, but he was warm and you could feel his heart beating rapidly in his chest. You wrapped your legs around his waist and brought your lips to his again.
This time it felt more urgent. Less perfectionistic and more desperate, but in a good way. In a way that made you feel wanted, needed. You explored each other’s mouths a bit and then his lips were on your neck and you let out a small groan when he hit the spot that always gave you goosebumps. He chuckled a little.
“Don’t laugh at me,” you whispered. He chuckled again but continued to kiss your neck, collarbone, shoulders, any part of exposed skin he could reach. Your hands were tangled up in his dark hair, head thrown back. He ran his hands under your dress around the small of your back, then slowly caressed upward. You suddenly remembered your earlier decision to not wear a bra with this dress. You got goosebumps.
His lips returned to yours, occasionally biting your lip playfully. He lifted your dress up and grabbed your ass, not aggressively, but with a sense of burning urgency, like he needed to touch you everywhere to know you. You ran your tongue along his teeth, this time making him softly groan in pleasure.
“Bedroom,” you managed to get out between kisses and moans. Not breaking your lips apart, he picked you up, his soft hands warm against your cold thighs as he carried you to your bedroom. He set you down on the edge of the bed and pulled his lips from yours. You laid down as he kneeled and slowly and methodically kissed his way down your body until he reached your thighs. He looked you in the eye for consent and you nodded, desperate for him to explore you.
He hiked your dress up to your waist and began kissing your legs, making his way to your inner thigh. Your legs trembled and you let out a small whimper. He reached up under your dress and found your breasts, taking one in his hand and lightly running his finger over your nipple. You moaned louder, unable to stop the wetness from forming between your legs.
Just as his tongue was hovering over your panties, his hot breath tickling your wet skin, his phone rang.
“Shit,” he said, fumbling into his pocket for his phone. He pressed ignore. “Sorry, where were we?” You grinned as he lowered himself to you again and returned his tongue to its previous position. You whimpered softly and your legs continued to tremble.
Then, his phone rang again.
“Shit,” he repeated, this time looking at the caller before pressing ignore. “Sorry. Again.” You smiled, trying to remain in the heat of the moment and not let the interruption bother you.
But before he could even return to you, his phone rang a third time. You groaned, but not in pleasure this time.
He sighed, said, “So sorry, just give me one sec,” and swiped to answer it. Whoever was on the other end sounded like they were crying.
“Bokuto, just calm down, ok. It’s going to be fine. Where are you?” Akaashi said. Your mind flashed back to the image of owl-haired Bokuto at the arcade bar playing skee-ball with the pretty brunette.
“Ok, I’ll be right there.” Akaashi sighed as he ended the call. “I’m so sorry, but my friend needs me.”
“Everything ok?” you asked as you sat up on the edge of the bed.
“Yeah, he gets this way sometimes.” Akaashi sat next to you on the bed and put his hand on your knee. ”I guess the girl he was with was only flirting with him for the free drinks, so he’s pretty distraught about it. I’m the only one who knows how to get him out of his funk.”
“It’s ok, I understand,” you said with a smile. He was sweet, but you wanted to do one last thing before he left. You got up and stood in front of him. Then, you straddled his lap and wrapped your arms around his neck. You kissed him slowly and sensually, slightly moving your hips as you did. His eyes widened, but he grabbed your hips and his body tensed.
You gradually pulled your lips away from his. “Just a little something to remember me by,” you whispered in his ear.
“Oh trust me, I could never forget you.”

CHAPTER TWO

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you slipped the coins into the slot, humming a tune as you grabbed the milk from the bottom slot. you still had a sinking feeling in your stomach, the doctors had explained hinata's injury relatively well but worry still gnawed inside of you at the thought of shoyo missing out of the olympics he's longed for playing in since he was a child.
you let out a small yawn as you stepped out of the elevator. you were sure there were purple bags forming under your eyes, you had only slept for a few hours, tossing and turning in the waiting room chair. you could see hinata's room door was slightly ajar, and you could hear an unfamiliar voice coming from inside. you gently knocked on the door, making your prescence known as you slipped in.
'i bring beverages', you say in a sing songy tone, attempting to lift the mood in the room. your cheeks immediately fluster when you notice the unfamiliar face in the room, who you'd clearly just cut off. you stepped off to the side next to yachi, spurring on the handsome stranger to continue his sentence.
you silently slipped the carton of milk to tobio, who threw you an appreciative smile. your eyes flicked back to the man sat next to shoyo. he had on a dark blue polo, and you could see a small japanese flag above his left peck. you quickly deduced he was someone with the japanese team, here to check up on the ginger. he had short, dark, spiky hair, and black slacks adorned his lower half. he leaned over to probe at hinata's calf, feeling around for any further aches and sensitive spots.
you noticed the expensive watch on his wrist, and how the muscle of his biceps and triceps fought against the cotton of his shirt. suddenly, you felt more self conscious of your appearance. you tucked your hair behind your ears, trying to untangle the knots that had formed. you pressed your lips together, and your eyes caught shoyo's for a second.
you held out the drink, giving him a look asking if he wanted it or not. his brown eyes beamed and he nodded eagerly, happy to get his fix of juice. you unscrewed the cap, quickly bringing the drink over to the man sat up in the hospital bed. taking in a sharp breath, you muttered a meek 'excuse me', slipping between the man in the polo and the hospital bed. your eyes fluttered back to the blackette, unable to resist a glance at his handsome face.
shit. he was looking right at you with such an intense gaze. his olive green eyes were drilling into your own, eyebrows furrowed and jaw protruding. he raised an eyebrow as he caught you staring, and your stomach dropped.
your stomach wasn't the only thing that had been dropped though, as when you finally broke your gaze there was a puddle of juice on the floor, soaking into your socks and into the cuffs of your jeans. you slapped a hand over your mouth, heart thumping as you let out a weak 'sorry', before making a dash out of the room.
run and run you did, only stopping to unlock your car door, throwing yourself in the back seats and covering your face in your hands. your phone was already buzzing in your back pocket, and you couldn't start to think of all of the texts flaming you which were yet to come.

The room was silent, the boys reading there letters and looking at each other.
“Is it... none of us?” Lev looked sad almost, and you shrugged your shoulders. He was wrong, and it took him a second to figure it out only after Kenma said something.
“Not all of us are here.. there is only six of us.”
“Then who else could it be!?” Lev laid back into the pillows with an exasperated sigh, you laughed sitting on the couch.
“Got my hopes up it was me.” Kuroo teased, falling off the sofa when you reached over and shoved him off. They all had good points, and good memories with you, it was hard to see who it might have been, even narrowing it down to those who weren’t in the room. There was the chance, that yes, the crush, the current still, crush was there and it was one of them. You wouldn’t have said anything if you weren’t ready, but it was a fun thought and a good trip down memory lane.
Kenma started the movie as Lev reached over to turn off the lights. How they talked you into a horror thriller, you had no idea but it worked in someone's favor. Lev sat between your legs, cowering under a blanket even in his twenties, not that you were any better.
The moment that the door in the movie swung open, so did your own door. The sounds of screaming and panic filled the room before the light in the entry way turned on, revealing another of your nekoma alumni.
“Hey pretty girl.. didn’t mean to scare you.” Fukunaga stood in the doorway, taking off his shoes and setting a plastic bag on the counter.
“Shou... you scared the shit out of all of us. I don’t wanna die just yet.” You smiled, your heart racing a million miles an hour. You stood and walked over to the new member of the party, looking into the bag while he slipped his arms around your waist, completely ignoring the room full of guys.
“What? The chocolate gets attention before me?” He pouted, and you moved what little you could with his arms in a vice around your waist.
“Yes. Always.” He spun you around, pinning you against the counter while you crossed your arms in a huff. You could see the boys behind the chef looking at you two in disbelief and confusion. “Come on princess, gimme my kiss.” you caved, leaning forward and giving the part time comedian what he was looking for. It was when you shared a kiss with him that it clicked and the whispers stopped.
“It was Shohei!?” Inuoka collapsed forward, landing on Lev with a thump before you and Fukunaga broke your little kiss apart.
“Was what me?”
“The crush from high school... that she still has a crush on..?”
“Oh.. you guys have no idea? I thought the whole thing was obvious.”
“Don’t be coy.” You teased, lightly smacking his shoulder, he smirked in response.
“No.. it wasn’t be back in high school. We’ve only been together for a few weeks, was going to tell you guys tonight all at once.” He grabbed a small box from the bag and took your hand, leading you to the pillow fort in the living room and sitting you on the ground between his legs.
“So who was it?” Kenma looked at you, and you shared a look with Shouhei. After giving him a nod, he spoke.
“It was Akaashi, then I stole her heart with my awesome jokes.”
“I KNEW IT.”
“Shut the fuck up Kuroo.”

The Thief
I want to tell him everything,
but how can I?
There are too many “what ifs,”
too many risks I’m not prepared to take,
too many doors I can’t push open.
Sharing a room with him is torture.
I’ve convinced myself that some
of him is better than none,
but perhaps I am wrong.
  Sometimes he leaves
and I am okay.
But sometimes he leaves
and I think he has taken
my breath with him,
a part of me.
  I crumple to the floor,
melting into a puddle
of my own insecurities.
I am broken.
  He has stolen my heart,
and I don’t know
how to get it back.

⪻⪻ Chapter 3 ⪼⪼
A Formal Introduction
Do Not Disturb (Haikyuu SMAU)
SYNOPSIS: You’re a housekeeper at a hotel in Miyagi. One day, as you were going about your cleaning duties, you found yourself accidentally intruding on a nearly-naked man asleep in his room. Mortified, you vowed to never come face-to-face with that man again. But fate had other plans…
PREVIOUS — MASTERLIST — NEXT
“Housekeeping!” you called out, hesitation obvious in your airy tone. You desperately hoped there was no response. No such luck.
“Come in,” a deep voice crooned from beyond the door. Your heart picked up its pace as you slid your keycard, turned the handle, and pushed the door open.
This time, the room was illuminated in the early afternoon sunlight. The air conditioner hummed away in the corner of the room, sending goosebumps down your arms and legs. You slowly stepped into the room and closed the door behind you.
“I was hoping I’d see you again,” the man (now fully clothed) was sitting on the edge of the bed, one leg crossed over the other while he tied his shoes. He wore a pair of dark blue slacks and a light blue, long sleeve button-up shirt with no tie, the top two buttons unbuttoned.
“That makes one of us,” you muttered under your breath. He finished tying and finally glanced up at you. He looked like he was about to say something snarky, but he sucked in a breath and closed his lips as if he could no longer speak.
“I’m so sorry about yesterday,” you began. “I had no idea someone was in here and I feel awful for invading your privacy like that and I—”
He held up a hand to stop you, the muscles in his shoulders flexing beneath his shirt. “Please, it was my fault. I was out late the previous night and knew I’d be sleeping in the next day, so I should have put the sign up. I apologize for making this awkward for the both of us.”
The friction of his deep voice against your ears made it hard to pay attention to what he was saying. When you realized your mouth was hanging wide open, you snapped it shut and took a deep breath in through your nose. Before you could say anything, he spoke again.
“I’m Kuroo, by the way.” He stuck out his hand and you took it in yours; it was strong but soft and warm.
“Y/n,” you replied, trying to ignore the electricity between the two of you that nearly stopped your heart.
“Nice to meet you, y/n,” he said. “I suppose you’ve already seen more of me than most, but I figured a formal introduction was in order.” A pink tint formed on his cheeks as he pulled his hand from yours. Was he nervous? You couldn’t imagine a man with his stature ever feeling nervous.
You crossed your arms behind your back, gripping your forearms tightly to keep your hands from shaking. His hazel eyes scanned the room as if he was wary of making eye contact with you.
“So, when’s a good time for me to come back and clean your room?” you asked. He perked up and finally locked eyes with you.
“Well, I’ll be gone most of the afternoon,” he said. Your heart sank a little. Clearly he wasn’t interested. You felt like a fool for assuming he would be.
“But,” he continued, “I don’t have any dinner plans.” A small grin formed on his face. As much as you tried, you couldn’t stop the pathetic curve of your lips as those words left his mouth.
“I’ll be sure to have it clean by then,” you replied, sure that all the oxygen in the room had selfishly abandoned you.
“If you just so happened to find yourself here around 7 tonight, I suppose you could join me for dinner. But you’d have to pick the place. After all, I’m not from here.” He winked. Your stomach tightened in a knot.
“I think I could manage that,” you agreed breathlessly. He ran his fingers through his tousled hair as he stood up and grabbed his wallet and hotel key card. He was easily almost a foot taller than you. You turned to lead the way as you both exited the room.
The door closed behind you and then it was just the two of you standing in the hallway, the familiar smell of fresh linens and cleaning products wafting from your cart.
“Meet you in the lobby at 7?” he asked.
“I’ll be there,” you smiled.
“See you then, y/n.” He gave a small wave before turning around and disappearing around the corner. As soon as he was out of sight, you put your head in your hands to hide the biggest grin you’d had in years. You just loved the way he said your name.

FUN FACTS
⪼ y/n could hardly focus on work after that interaction and had to use every ounce of will power not to snoop in Kuroo’s room while cleaning
⪼ Mika squealed in delight and promised to help y/n pick out what to wear
⪼ Kuroo barely paid attention in his meetings that afternoon ;)
⪼ Would anyone want a bonus chapter of that scene from Kuroo’s pov? Lmk!

Omg it was so amazing! I still can't believe it happened. I don't even care that it got cut short because the little that we got was pure perfection
honestly though. and tyler was such a sweetheart okay. when he said, “we’re giving you as much music as we can.” and “there’s nowhere i’d rather be. than playin’ music with you. in the pouring rain.” two of my friends got really really good spots. during the trees finale, one was right next to josh and the other was next to tyler.
