The fact that Shuro ridicules Laios for the very same traits he loves Falin for. This is a very common phenomenon with male vs female autistics.

Let me explain.

I am an autistic woman. My best friend is an autistic man. People are generally drawn to me at first because they are romanticizing my autistic traits into the “manic pixie dream girl” trope. To them, I’m quirky, funny, free spirited, “not like other girls”. It usually doesn’t last long though, because when they get to know me it becomes less charming. But I still have the advantage in first-time social interaction.

My male best friend on the other hand, is constantly targeted for his autistic traits. Traits that are IDENTICAL to mine. Let me be clear, we are EXTREMELY similar. He is the male version of me. People think he’s off-putting and weird (even though he’s wonderful).

Shuro is clearly in love with the IDEA of Falin. He’s in love with the romanticized version of her, but he doesn’t really KNOW her.

I'm sorry if this isn't articulated well and is a little rambly, I'm autistic, please take my words with a grain of salt. as a former member of that "whump community" (who's still into that kind of media) I know most of them are tifs, tho I was in it more when most of the popular writers on tumblr were still girls. It's also primarily autistic people from my experience.

you're definitely 100% right that they're not identifying as real men, I'm detrans and i don't even conflate the 2 in my mind which i think is a thing most RFs don't get about yaoi and this kind of thing, i didn't want to be a real guy, fictional men r like their own species lol. they're everything real men could never be. it might be hard to understand if you're less chronically online but I'm sure though not consciously, fictional men aren't even really related to real men in most of these people's minds.

With whump stuff I was always more uncomfortable or uninterested when it was a woman, maybe because women in media being hurt and weak is the norm (and it feels too real seeing a woman getting hurt since there's a closer connection), and it happening to men is an intriguing reversal. More male attracted women (im bi) are into more sensitive guys which sadly mostly exist in media, so it's just escapism.

I think that's also why they identify as trans males, they want to become closer to the fictional ideal of a male who can be soft and sensitive, or possibly being autistic and having trouble separating your special interests and escapist fantasies from every facet of your life.

I think you’re onto something here. Brutality against female people is so common that we’re completely desensitized to it, and consequently, female characters being brutalized doesn’t emotionally move us. Either that, or brutality against female characters is highly sexualized, and further dehumanizes them.

On the other hand, brutality against a male character is unexpected and unusual. Therefore, we are emotionally moved by it and able to recognize it for the tragedy it is. Indeed, this might explain why the “whump community” almost exclusively romanticizes the torture and anguish of male characters, and why so many of its members identify as trans guys.

Furthermore, have you noticed that most of the tropes this community romanticizes are things that, at least in real life, female people are primarily the victims of? For example: rape, kidnapping, stalking, being drugged, being sold. It almost feels like an attempt to vicariously garner empathy for female suffering, without the element of being another cliché female victim. I feel like they impose female suffering onto male characters because they know the audience actually empathizes for males and views them as full human beings.

In the end, I think it all comes down to female people’s desire to be fully humanized and to escape gendered stereotyping. For example, you stated that many trans-identified females “want to become closer to the fictional ideal of a male who can be soft and sensitive.” But why is a soft, sensitive male character so much more charming to them than a soft, sensitive female character?

Because in their eyes, softness and sensitivity in a male character is seen as authentic; it’s seen as a consequence of his unique personality. But softness and sensitivity in a female character is seen as expected, as stereotypical—it’s seen only a consequence of her gender. This is also why characters who are fathers are adored, while characters who are mothers are overlooked or scrutinized. Because a male character taking care of children is kindhearted, nurturing, selfless, compassionate. But a female character taking care of children is just doing her job.

Basically, I think many trans-identified females would like their softness and sensitivity to be viewed as authentically as we view softness and sensitivity in males. I think many trans-identified females crave for their characteristics to be viewed as consequences of their unique personalities, rather than consequences of their gender. They crave to be seen as human first and female second—not the other way around.

The sword is, in her own estimation, pretty much all she's good for. That and her smoking hot bod and terribly charming sense of humor.

i lied. anyway i think now i’ve cracked the code. taylor, despite making incredibly mediocre music and generally not being an interesting artist, as well as a billionaire (inherently evil), is actively practicing some kind of sympathetic magic and imbuing her music with it, like she said on the album, puttng narcotics in her songs. but this witchcraft is very specifically tailored to charm every listener into identifying her generic lyrics with their specific situation/identity/interest, moreso than most other pop artists. that’s where gaylors and ‘autismlors’ (neurodivergent girls who armchair-diagnose taylor with autism, you’d be surprised how many there are) etc come from. they genuinely see themselves and their niche experiences in her lyrics and grow to believe that she is part of their community.

that’s why they start noticing cryptic symbolism as evidence of their theories (‘lavender haze’ signifying that she’s queer comes to mind) — her iconography and lore is so expansive that there is something for a person of virtually any demographic to latch on to and demonstrate as ‘proof’ that she is [insert label here]. this works wonders for marketability and popularity — every one of these demographics flock to purchase her albums and buy tickets to her shows because that’s not Pop Star Taylor Swift, that’s their icon. your own personal jesus, like depeche mode said? no, your own personal taylor.

how did i come to this conclusion? well, i have the misfortune of being a big fan of the 60-year-old sci-fi shitshow Doctor Who (it’s been my autistic special interest for 5 months now). and listening to TTPD, i found myself believing that taylor is also a fan and the relationship between a companion and the doctor is what the lyrics of Down Bad are based on (won’t go into detail, for more info literally just scroll down to my previous post). of course i didn’t really believe that, but the seed of “what if?” was already planted in my mind. and that’s when it clicked. this is the interest i’m most focused on right now, so i see it in taylor’s lyrics. a young queer girl from middle america who’s just come out will be heavily focused on her newfound identity, so of course she’ll see it in taylor’s lyrics.

this theory is semi-serious. i don’t actually believe in things like this. but if she had entered into a soul contract with some strange deity of musical correspondence. would you really be surprised?

Y/n fiddled with her fingers as she contemplated opening the basement door. She knew Rodrick was practising right now, and it would be uncomfortable for her to sit through it.

She paced the hallway until she decided to sit on the couch, but she saw the time. It was almost 6 pm, and his parents would be back from the supermarket. So she left his home.

A few minutes later, his parents got home, and Rodrick looked for her everywhere.

"What are you looking for, Rodrick?" Susan's voice startled him. He put his hand on his chest as he took a breath of relief.

"Jeez! Susan, don't sneak up on your kids like this." Rodrick made a note to talk to Y/n tomorrow as he made his way to his room.

The following morning Rodrick pelted stones on her window. He smirked when he saw her window open. "There's my pretty girl? Come down. I need to see you properly."

Y/n blushed and ran down the stairs. Straight into his arms. She smiled as she felt his hand drawing circles on her back.

"You alright, sugar? You went without saying goodnight," he asked, lightly pinching her cheek.

Y/n shifted her weight between her legs, her palms sweating. "Uhh... I actually had something in my mind."

Rodrick squinted his eyes at her. "what is it, sugar?" he gently caressed her arm, trying to calm her nerves.

"I wanna listen to you practice." she pouted as she looked up at him

Rodrick sighed. "Sweets, you know my loud music will make you uncomfortable, and I can't have that." his tone was soft.

His heart broke when he saw disappointment on her face. He took her hand and walked with her in the neighbourhood, hoping it would clear her mood.

"Here you go, Rodrick". He immediately pockets the "mom bucks". Greg looked at his older sibling in suspicion. Rodrick barely would leave his room...somehow making Greg do all the chores. Now he was happily doing chores, being nice to him.

Greg saw as he ran upstairs, and he quietly followed him. He peeped through his door to Rodrick, taking out a stash of money from under his bed. He sat on the bed and started counting the money.

Rodrick looked at his drumsticks which looked like they could break any moment. He shook his head and ordered the noise-cancelling headphones. Greg hid when Rodrick got out of his room.

The following morning Rodrick was confused when he found a few extra dollars in his stash. He turned around and saw Greg hiding and smiled. Rodrick thought he won't be pranking Greg...at least for a month. He quickly gift-wrapped the headphones and went to Y/n's home.

He could feel himself falling in love with the girl more as she brightened up as she saw the headphones and said. "Rodrick...you didn't have to buy this...these things are costly..."

Roderick interrupted her. "Take it as your early birthday gift. And now you can sit through my band practice." he shrugged. He could buy all the headphones in the world just to see her smile like that.

"What about your drumsticks?"

He blushed. Mentally he was picturing their marriage. "I can put tapes, and it will be good as new."

"I don't deserve this."

He pulled her closer to him, kissing her cheeks. "You deserve all the nice things. And I did this because I want my girl there when I practice. You are my lucky charm, my love, my heart."

Y/n blushed and asked, "Can I kiss you?"

He smirked and opened his arms. "Kiss me all you want, sugar."

Rodrick instantly felt her lips on him. He couldn't help but smile as she kissed him.

"I love you, Rodrick." She declared breathlessly.

The main reason why I really don't like Shuro is because he only bothered to know Falin personally, and that's why he finds her weirder behavior charming and complex, while at the same time having the audacity of finding Laios annoying despite he and his sister being on the same level of autistic behavior and not even bothering trying to be his friend, thus showing the true kind of hypocrite that he really is.

I'm baffled, truly. I'm very low on spoons right now, but I'd like to give you a formal reply: it's not really like that? Laios is more direct than his sister, while Falin is shown to be more socially aware and caring. Toshiro (Shuro) who comes from a show-don't-tell, high context culture would appreciate the more quiet Falin than Laios. From Toshiro's POV of Laios, he was putting in effort of getting to know Falin (taking her to dinner for one), and Laios would just barge in.

He didn't hate Laios, either. He didn't see Falin as the girl version of Laios, and there have been many posts talking about that topic that I highly recommend you read. Falin and Laios are different people, and it's an injustice to reduce them to being on the same level of autistic behavior. You can already see that with how they behave in both the anime and manga.

I know this won't change your mind right away! That's fine! I also just want to say that not everything has to be reduced to ableism against autistic people. Sometimes personalities clash due to cultural differences and that's fine. Sometimes a person just rubs you the wrong way, and that's fine. It doesn't have to be blown out of proportions into this black and white scenario like this. I wasn't even a Toshiro fan, but I empathized a lot with what he was going through. That's why I'm writing the posts and replying to you guys, just to shine my own perspective on the situation.

Ultimately the reason Percabeth is such horrifically bad ship yet gets praised so much is that while Percy and Annabeth canonically love eachother,they also canonically don't like eachother LMAO.Percy's constantly wishing Annabeth was extremely different than who she actually is because he finds her unbearable and hard to be around and finds escapism in being around people who're unlike her with the biggest example being him having been in love with Rachel before they settled into still close exes

There's also his friendships with the Grace Sibs,Thalia had infinitely better progress with him in TTC than Annabeth has in the entire saga and he admires her a lot more too and it's a running theme that Jason is Annabeth's opposite and Percy became instant best friends with him upon first meeting and all three of their first meetings are more charming and unique than Percy saying his type is princess-y girls in his narration but Annabeth hating being seen as one because she's gnc and 'You drool when you sleep'.I also think if anybody is Percy's cosmically intertwined soulmate it's not any s/os but Nico and Hazel and by that i mean in a found siblings with him also being their pseudo-parent way.All their dynamics are interesting and richen their characters and they're from different time periods which only adds to how special their bond is

And on Annabeth's end.......She kinda straight up hates his existense.She's always talking about how stupid he is and that he's useless without her and i get that Rick tried to sell it as affectionate teasing but she's angered by it so often it's obvious it's just Rick being a cishet nt white old man.She gets angered by finding him attractive too?????This trope can be good but Percy never actually does anything,he's literally just existing and that includes not actively pursuing her back since he dosen't want her even half as much as she thinks she wants him.It's rare compared to her mean-spirited comments he explicitly never consented to and finds unnecessary and one of the many thing's he wishes she wasn't and he never returns her physical assaults so 'they're demigods and it's normal!' excuse dosen't add up

Yeah,they're dating in canon and gonna get married.Percy's also gonna not only go to college but a demigod college when again and again and AGAIN he says he dosen't want to be a half-blood and he's only going so he can live out a traditional lifestyle with Annabeth so so much for 'his thether to his mortal side' i guess.Annabeth never got any shit from Poseidon like Percy did Athena or terrorizing like Aphrodite does everybody else she talks to and Percy was forced to narratively forgive Luke,again,only because of Annabeth when he groomed him for a bit and abused him tons too and it's so vile to gaslight us into thinking Luke was anything but a serial pedophile and beyond far right to Percy's lifelong outcasthood and anarchy and Annabeth as a direct victim of his sick sexual 'interests' in plausible deniability font due to being a pg series.Percabeth is the peak cishet romance norms taken up to 12 like the Olympians and it's embarrasingly obvious nobody saying they're t4t has ever been in a transmasc4transfem relathionship

Oh sweet anon, if you know anything about me, you know I too am a glinda girlie ✨

Glinda actually takes her studies very seriously, she just doesn't want anybody to know she takes her studies that seriously.

Not a morning or evening person, but a secret third option (hating any time of day except the sweet spot between lunch and afternoon tea).

First thing she does when waking up is putting on make-up. She's one of those people who have a very strong dislike of seeing their own face without it.

I believe it's canon that she's terrified of lightning/thunderstorms, but I'd like to add to that: prefers to sleep with a night light on. (she convinced Elphaba of getting one in their second year).

In her first year gets really confronted by the fact how dirty everything gets. Like, she's so used to having a clean room, clean clothes, clean everything, as if by magic (aka her mom or Ama). But now that she's a student, she actually needs to clean herself. And oh boy, does Ms. No-Dust-Anywhere get confronted by the fact that her (borderline obsessive) expectation of cleanliness requires like 3 cleaning days a week. Poor girl.

Side note, whose fucking clever idea was it that you get dirty while trying to clean? That should be, like, illegal — Galinda Upland, at some point.

If comphet did not have Glinda in such a chokehold, she'd actually be the one who'd fall first. Not Elphaba.

Secretly loves to stay indoors and curl up under her blankets. Read a book or do a puzzle or just have long talks with her roomie. She calls them pajamas day, and they have to end with a dinner of pancakes. yum!

Sweettooth. Like. massively.

Similarly as to Elphaba, realizes for the first time that she can be at ease in her living space. Fully let her guard down. It's a bit of a revelation that she doesn't have to be On all the time, not even in her own house (or mask, if you want to interpret her as autistic/neurodivergent).

Cried once over a broken nail (the Charmed Circle still teases her about it).
