I hope everyone who tries to act like emphasizing Miles blackness 'erases' his puerto rican heritage knows that that's literally not how it works in actual latino culture.In fact,it's the opposite.I'm the daughter(and son and child)of a divorced dominican couple who are a black man and a white woman and i was raised by my mom's side of the family and i CANNOT TELL YOU how many times her and the other nonblack people in my life like my teachers downplayed my blackness.I was told i'm 'not really black' because 'we're all mixed at the end of the day!' and that i look indigineous as a compliment because i look like a perfect mix of both of my parents.Not only that but that caused me to grow up almost completely disconnected from my blackness because i had no black friends either and gaining them later on in my life was incredibly healing and i love myself for being not just latina but afrolatina

Black people aren't erasing Miles latino heritage by being happy he's like us.You're erasing his AFROlatino heritage and perpetuating something that traumatized me and so many other afrolatino kids and i DEMAND you either cut out that shit out or leave the fandom.Now

A collection of things in The Owl House season 3 that makes this Dominican/American blob of a person happy to see:

The Dominican flag behind Gus and those decorations around it. You can buy those as souvenirs and some people sell them hand made as well!

The Gifina dolls behind Willow! I used to love these dolls as a kid because they were cute to me (even though some people find them creepy). They're usually made of clay and are very delicate so you have to wrap them extra well if planning on bringing them back with you.

Camilla's hair wrap! Almost every woman in my family has slept in/gone out with their hair in these wraps. It's kinda like a combination of a bonnet and a cap to keep hair as smooth as possible. Hair is usually wrapped around your head in sections and secured with Bobby pins!

Speaking of hair...

Luz's pigtails! My own mother used to tie my hair in these styles with pink hair lotion. Sometimes it was in four sections sometimes three. It kept my hair protected and she used to put little hair ties with these kind of marble things at the end that made a very satisfying clink clink sound every time I walked.

Eve vs Eve by Rosaly Martínez, photographic installation, mixed technique, 2023

I wanna talk for a bit cause I remembered this art piece I saw at an art show back in october. (Kinda long post ahead)

My mom, sister and I went to an art show held in memory of this local artist, can't remember his name, but some of his art was shown among a ton of other artists (there was no theme for the show afaik)

We're walking through the gallery, seeing so many amazing pieces, and we get to the second floor and come across this piece, displayed on the floor. My heart instantly jumps to my throath.

I'm looking at it, surely it can't be...? In this country? But it has to be... maybe i'm just weird but it really looks like it doesn't it? And like you don't get it, it's so fucking hard to see any kind queer anything here, especially displayed so openly like this, even my art college, where like half the students and staff were queer, did nothing for pride month. Maybe I'm dumb and dramatic, and the fact that I don't go out much likely affects my perception, but unless I'm with my gay friends it feels so lonely being queer in any way, not helped by the fact that the only "right" we have is not being outright illegal.

All of this to say that I was taken aback by seeing something like this in a public space, i couldn't tear my eyes away from it, as my mom and sister were confused by the piece I felt myself fighting back tears, the plaque with the piece and artist's name wasnt next to it on the floor but instead in a wall close by, so I didn't see it initially, but as soon as I read it i almost cried, I felt so seen it was overwhelming.

Later that day I searched for the artist and found her insta, and just to confirm I saw that, indeed, the piece is about gender transition, specifically the artist wanted to talk about it since it's still a vontroversial topic to most, personally I felt such compassion and empathy, presenting these different steps in someone's life as ultimately equal in importance and normalcy, both are resting so peacfully as one gives birth and the other has different gender affirming surgeries.

Again, maybe I'm just being dramatic (I can be like that...), but this is truly how i felt seeing this piece and just wanted to share.

all of my clothes are too big for me since starting adderall has made me drop a ton of weight and i'm actually scared to weigh myself because i'm concerned about how low the number is gonna be. if anyone has tips for force-feeding yourself without throwing up when all food sounds heinous, or foods that are generally agreeable even on a volatile stomach, please tell me.

Ruben didn't realised how fucked his mom's behavior was until he met the others. Like he'd be telling what he thought was a "cute fun story" about his childhood and finish to the others looking at him like "what the actual fuck". And he's like "what?" Latino headcanons are absolutely based and one of my favorite thing's ever,however,i feel a thing gringos often miss with them is that they make the characters they headcanon like us be too normal.Latinos are weird as fuck dude and i would know because i grew up in Dominican Republic.Even if you don't know any latinos personally,you can easily tell by the good canon rep for us in media.Jaime Reyes?Miles Morales?Luz and Camila Noceda?Yes they are fantastic representation because of their cultures being accurate the irl ones but also because they're super strange.That one netflix show with the last word in it wants what these legends have
