pérez doesn't seem to know bart's supposed to be older than fourteen any more than deodato did but spurrier is in my good books for now for the fact alone that he's aware of how important max and bart are to each other.

Spoilers for Flash #7!
Things are getting weirder as reality continues collapsing, which has left Linda in a daze and Barry not acting like himself. I dearly hope that's why he swears at Hartley here, because profanity isn't usually his thing. But at least he's realized that something malevolently strange is happening, which is a first step to solving it and finding Wally (who is currently injured in The Gallery). And it's good to know that Hartley is still at TerrificTech and doing scientific work of his own, and has the trust of Mr Terrific. Maybe he'll end up combatting the mysterious piper who afflicts Linda and we saw last issue with Evan and the tentacled eyeball monstrosity.
The main plot of the issue is Max and Bart getting rescued from the Uncoiled by the Linear Men, and they speak to an agent of the group called Inspector Pilgrim who explains that reality is collapsing due to the activities of speedsters. His own ability to travel up and down his personal timeline has been hampered as of late because of this. It turns out that the Linear Men (who are essentially "timecops", as Pilgrim describes them) are putting the universe's speedsters into suspended animation to deal with this problem, and Bart and Max suffer the same fate.
My guess is that Inspector Pilgrim is Jai West -- as travelling along his own timeline would explain why he visited Jai a few issues ago -- but we'll have to see. The ability does sound a bit like Hunter's, although he couldn't travel backwards and was more about adjusting his speeds as he went forward. We know that Jai has been developing new powers that aren't exactly speed-related, so this seems consistent with that, and Pilgrim specifically mentions Gold Beetle and describes her as "kinda family". Jai and Gold Beetle will be in a relationship in the future, so this is also consistent. He also claims to be a big fan of Bart and Max, and if he is Jai it'd make imprisoning them particularly awkward for him.
It's a pretty good issue even despite the info-dumping, and I'm glad to see Hartley again. Hopefully Max and Bart won't be out of action for too long!

So theres a story idea that popped into my head. I was reading the brave and the bold comic and in the last issue Barry is grieving over his dead wife, Iris. In the issue, Hal explained how he didnt really know how to help him so he decided that Barry should move in with him so hoepfully their friendship can help heal Barry.
I was planning on writing a fanfiction about Barry’s grief. And not just losing Iris, but losing his mother, losing his father (im not sure if Henry is even still alive, but even if he is alive Barry still lost his father). Even losing random strangers that The Flash couldn’t save in time. I was planning on it being in multiple perspectives (Barry himself, Hal, Nora right before she died, and Wally). And it being more about Barry healing from his trauma and depression.
Then I thought, why stop there? There is so many heroes who has to deal with grief constantly. What if there was a fic collection called “A Heroes’ Grief” with multiple fics of several heroes grieving over the people they have lost.
With Hal Jordan this can be while Hal is Parallax after Coast City was destroyed and Barry already being dead. This one can be in Hal obviously, Bruce, Oliver, Dinah, Diana, and Wally. Just Hal reflecting on all the people he lost (Barry, Iris (Iris dying obviously effected Barry more but it hurt Hal too), His father, and the entirety of Coast City).
Im not well knowledged about Booster Gold or Blue Beetle (the original) but a story about Michael grieving his best friend, and having to realize that theres nothing he could have done to stop it. Would be a good one.
Diana and loneliness. Something i think DC writer’s haven’t really thought of was that because Diana is immortal she most likely held people at arm’s length after Steve died because she knows that no matter what her time with them is limited. Diana is probably used to seeing the people she loves age and die, and being powerless to stop it. Diana in a way has become numb to this and instead of considering the time she has with people as a gift and as something precious. She thinks of it more as a ticking time bomb. This is purely in Diana’s view and its just Diana grieving tons of tons of people and then realizing the Justice League isn’t immortal either and a lot of them will inevitably leave her too.
Bruce is a big one. I don’t even think I really need to go into this but i kinda want to start it when he’s a kid and still trying to register what happened. Back when he was a kid he was far more vulnerable and emotional. He wasn’t used to just bottling in his emotions until he cracked. I want this one to be more in Alfred’s pov then anything.
The last one I had was Bart actually. This is more referring to YJ Bart, but his story is set after Barry died in Crisis and Hal dies after sacrificing himself (yes i know Barry is not dead in YJ and Hal hasnt became Parallax yet but this is set further in the future) I always felt like Bart’s grief was not talked enough about in YJ so I wanted to explore that. But not just Bart grieving Barry but the people he lost while in the reach apocalypse (his family and any allies) and Bart grieving Wally.
Unfortunately I had lost motivation in writing but i just wanted to put this idea out.

Got not tagged but saw this meme and wanted to do it :D
I tag @namekian-maoh and whoever else wanna try!
How many works do you have on AO3?
56 so far.
What’s your total AO3 word count?
600021 at this moment... damnit, I like nice and round numbers more XD
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
29 XD well, some are crossover and some are almost-the-same (especially with Video games where I often take multiple entires in a series into account and tag them accordingly)
As for my fandoms:
Video games: Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Among Us, Bowser's Fury, Deltarune, Don't Starve, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Final Fantasy XV, Luigi's Mansion, Mario & Luigi RPG, Monkey Island, Pikmin, Pocket Monsters | Pokemon, Super Mario & Related Fandoms, Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Odyssey, Super Paper Mario, Undertale, (+ AU of Undertale)
Comic/Cartoon/Manga/Anime: Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, Yu-Gi-Oh! (All Media Types), Homestuck, Gravity Falls, DCU (Comics), Booster Gold (Comics),  Blue Beetle (Comics)
Books/Movies/Divers: Harry Potter, Mystery Skulls Animated, Olsen-banden | The Olsen Gang (Movies), Ties of Lapis (Skyrim-AU),
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
1. PTA Sans and other glorious things
73016 words, 3192 Kudos, so far my most successful work XD It’s still ongoing. Undertale Fanfic, Monster-on-the-Surface, True Pacifist Ending, PTA AU, SansxToriel in the Background, everybody is here, mostly happy, silly and only a small dose of angst from time to time. Later chapters with more story.
2. TrioBlasterSets AU - Six puppys and 3 flames
270813 word, 758 Kudos. I write this AU together with @namekian-maoh . Still ongoing. Undertale Baby-Blaster AU with some Underfell and Underswap thrown into it. Dadby, Badster, mostly family fluff and dealing with the experiment!gaster-blaster Background of 3 skeleton children. Also 3 flames who take care of them that have way more drama going on themselves than nessessary. Chapters are not in chronological order. Has a few Spin-offs too (including some NSFW oneshorts about the flames and their relationship ;) )
3. So I won't regret another day
19214 words, 320 Kudos. Undertale Underfell AU, Underfell Sansby with some healthy relationships, the planning of a revolt against an insane king, monster still being monster and not really made for violence in an violent setting. If officially finished but I write new chapters when the fancy strikes me.
4. Grillby's
9894 words, 265 Kudos. Deltarune/Undertale fanfic with a Spin, named Plushyrune (aka Deltarune where eveything is the same, just with Sansby and Sans makes plushies). Started as just pure silly fluff, kinda got a plot now about the kids of Deltarune. Still ongoing, new chapter is 80% done ;)
5. Something old, something new...
6579 words, 208 Kudos. Pure Post-Pacifist Surface Sansby fluff. Mostly from Grillby’s POV how they fall in love and be silly and in love. Still ongoing, haven’t really had to mojo to write more for it lately, but I WILL return at some point.
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I try to! I used to not comment on comments because I had this irrational feeling of “cheating the numbers” if I reply to comments but... screw that, I want to interact with people! So I try to answer any and all comments now :)
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Ufff, for me it’s a tie between The last chip  and Laughter in the Darkness. The Last Chip is a Yu-gi-Oh! Fanfic in a series of Kaiba spiraling downwards after the Manga/Anime ended and sets up the events of Dark Site of Dimensions. It ends pretty much with Kaiba ending up getting borderline suicidal in his Obsession with the Pharaoh.
Laughter in the Darkness is the Epilog I wrote for my Gravity Falls x Amnesia Crossover where Ford is pretty much an Amnesia-Protagonist and archives the very worst ending for himself. Mind the tags if you read this. It ends with Ford at the lowest possible point for himself and its open ended if he is going fully insane or if Bill Chiper really is still around. (and it’s not clear what outcome is the better one)
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Nah, not really. I am a chill writer in my own little corners of the fandom and most people leave me alone. I did get one “But Queer is a SLUR” comment way back in the day where it was still all “????” to say that out loud. But otherwise? Nah. I am not important enough for hate, lol.
Do you write smut? If so what kind?
I have XD Not much thou. I wrote so far an mastubation scene with the one going down on himself heavily NOT BEING ALRIGHT while doing so XD Other than that I have 2 NSFW Undertale fics with some hot flame-on-flame action. I do like writing not-standard-sex (as in Sex that doesn’t requite human genitila) Otherwise I like to hint or describe feelings more than the act itself. More lime than lemon ;)
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of. As I said, I am not important enough for that.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
I had some ppl asking for permission to translate (which of course) but as far as I know there are no translations out there as of yet.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yeah, I am writing the TrioBlasterSet AU with @namekian-maoh I did Co-write some fics way back during my fanfiction.de time too but that’s a long time ago.
What’s your all time favorite ship?
I ship a lot and am a dirty multishipper XD I have to many ships to really call one out as my favorite.
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
TrioBlasterSets AU because there is always MORE to tell with this AU XD
What are your writing strengths?
I am the Queen of Worldbuilding and Crossovers baby!
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Only do it if you have a REALLY good reason for it AND if you have a good gasp on the language. Like, nothing takes me out of a fic faster than reading stuff in horrible German written by people who were to lazy to just copy/paste the word from google translate (my time in the Apollo Justice fandom has seriously scared me. It’s Fräulein, not Fraulein or Fraülein! Also you can’t just swap ei and ie around THOSE ARE DIFFERENT SOUNDS! als we have the letter ß it’s a shap s sound you can’t just use/not use it as you please!)
Also in 90% of all cases it’s just not nessessary. Write what you wanna write, TELL us it was said in a different language OR let the POV character just tell us their hear something said in an other language they couldn’t understand.
What I want to say is: Have some respect of the language you want to use!
-
What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?
I THINK it was Harry Potter? IDK I wrote a cringy Star Trek Parodie when I was like 14 or so and those OCs went through a lot from that time on forward but Idk if that even counts XD
-
What’s your favorite fic you’ve ever written?
The Game of Our Life It’s a series of Mario x Homestuck Fics I wrote before Undertale came along and swept me away XD I love all my fics of course but this one was the first really big one I finished on english and it was the one I am most proud of of the world-building. It has angst, it has lore, my writing style was just really developing there and I am just proud of it. (Also it’s very self-indulging so yeah XD love it a LOT)

MAFIA of MONSTERS?? Tell me more 👀 👀 👀
OHOHOHO YOU JUST OPENED A CAN OF WORMS, BUDDY!
I’m going to put this under a read-more because I’ve got a lot to rattle off!
The Monster Mafia is exactly that: a group of monsters that engage in organized crime! They operate in New Haven, a heavily magically-influenced city that's home to a whole plethora of magical creatures dubbed “Monsters”.
Marx Spinnerrett, who l just answered an ask about, is our lovable protagonist, a country boy with a heart of gold that was accidentally hired by said mafia. The story (which I desperately need to write) follows his misadventures as he comes to term with his new lifestyle.
He’s also technically immortal, but that’s a whole ‘nother story.
I have at least 16 other members designed!
Tumblr media
Anna Bychkov-Devereux is a bull-like Monster that was born in Russia. She immigrated to New Haven when she was only a teenager and ended up becoming a pit fighter (which is how she lost her right eye). Joined the Monster Mafia not too long after! She’s a professional boxer now and is married to Sophia Bychkov-Devereux :)
Sophia Bychkov-Devereux is a squid-like Monster that was born in France. She immigrated to New Haven after graduating from college and pursued a profession in law, where she was adopted into the Monster Mafia as a master of finances. She’s married to Anna and is actually her accountant!
Jin Vertebræ is the bartender/owner of the Black Rose, a bar where the Monster Mafia base their operations! No one actually knows much about their background, but some people have spread the rumor that they used to be human, but became a Monster after living in New Haven for too long. Nobody asks, though. Last person that did ended up on the bar’s menu.
Holly Hammerhands is an autistic Monster and talented surgeon! She was recruited by the Monster Mafia sometime in her twenties for her skills and has been an indispensable member ever since. She’s blind and senses the world around her my clacking and grinding her teeth, as well as making different clicking/squeaking noises. Also kicks ass at darts.
Sinclair Hammerhands is Holly’s adopted Monster daughter, who was left on her doorstep as a baby! She isn’t necessarily a member of the Monster Mafia, but happily claims she will be one day. Holly does not like this claim. She’s a big fan of picking locks and getting into places where she shouldn’t be.
George and Lenny Slithera are a pair of conjoined, snake-like Monsters often referred to by the rest of the Monster Mafia as “Snake-Eyes”! They bicker constantly and are pretty unreliable as a result. Pretty good at playing Poker and Craps, but that’s probably because they work ok tandem cheat.
Tobias Thunderhorn is a beetle-like Monster that works with his parents as a butcher. He’s a sweet guy, really, and would actually rather be a baker! Never really tells anybody that, though, since they’d just poke fun at the guy.
Charlie Caine is a worm-like Monster that functions as the Monster Mafia’s primary loanshark! Most of the time she works at a local strip joint as a standup comedian. Her sense of humor is absolutely atrocious and consists mostly of dark/immoral jokes. She’s essentially what happens when you season a tapeworm.
Mortimer Sporestool is a fungus-like Monster that owns a casino! He used to sell used cars and scam people out of their money when he was younger. Smells like cigar smoke and always keeps cards hidden in his sleeves. Do not take bets from this man.
Travis Valentino is a burlesque dancer! He acts as an informant for the Monster Mafia, in a way, since he tends to... get around. Ever since Marx moved to New Haven he’s been all over him, but it’s all been a harmless little game, really. Mostly.
Willow Waxing is a Monster made out of wax that works for New Haven City Hall as a receptionist! She’s smarter than she lets on to be and is incredibly ruthless in the workforce. Snacks on candles like they’re Hershey’s Kisses.
Greta Folter is a goat-like Monster that films “home movies” as a source of income, and by “home movies” I mean snuff films, which is why she’s a part of the Monster Mafia to begin with. Certified MILF hunter. Likes a woman who can kick her ass.
“Tío” Tony Umbraluto is actually the big bad bastard in charge of the Monster Mafia! He’s a slime Monster, with all of that goop kinda wrapped up in a dark, congealed skin. Was groomed into assuming the mantle as a child by his parents and filled that role well. He’s incredibly charming and compassionate in the public eye, since he works in City Hall as the mayor’s aide, but is ruthless and cutthroat behind the scenes. Unsure of whether or not to murder Marx and bury his remains under a construction site.
Thomas Umbraluto is Tony’s twin brother and Marx’s love interest! He works at a joint called the “Sanguine Café” as the vocalist of a jazz band. Defected from his parent’s demands to join the Monster Mafia when he was of age; led to a horrible split between him and the rest of his family. He can’t stand being around Tony anymore, five minutes in a room together and they’ll start throwing hands.
Ennard Blackthorne Copperfield Mirrormask is a marionette-like Monster that owns his own magic shop, called “Ennard’s Enchantments”! He’s more of an affiliate of the Monster Mafia, supplying illegal magical items and things like that. Most of the time, he’s either experimenting with black magic or ripping holes in the fabric of reality. It’s fine.
Borris Crowfoot, last but not least, is a bird-like Monster and the chief of the New Haven Police Department! He’s a dirty cop and often risks his career to aid the Monster Mafia (probably forced into joining the family against his will when he was younger). Has two little girls and is recently divorced since his wife discovered she was a lesbian and it’s funnier than her being dead.

Beside The Dying Fire (part ten)
[DnD AU with the tour!verse]
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9
Word count: 4271
------------------------------
Hot. Scorching. Sweltering. Searing. Balmy. Parching. Oven-like. Those, and so many other words could describe the desert Katherine and her companions were trekking through, Katherine just couldn’t think of anymore because her brain was being melted.
The Brazen Empire--or just “Braze”--was the desert territory on the far east side of Atlas. It was boxed in on all sides by tall, platformed plateau mesas called the Highland Cliffs, which kept the land in solitude from the rest of the continent.
Golden rolling dunes stretched out as far as the eye could see—which, to be fair, wasn’t very far because Katherine was sure she was seeing mirages everywhere. Cacti and shriveled shrubs stuck out of the ground, somehow surviving in the wasteland despite the cruel elements. The sky was an eye-bleedingly bright blue with not a single cloud in sight, letting the blisteringly hot sun rain down on the land.
And Katherine HATED IT.
“God, this is awful,” She panted, sweat burning in her eyes. Her dirty blonde hair felt like tassels of fire on her head, and her ears were like little torches attached to her skull.
Catalina laughed. “What are you talking about? This is amazing!”
Catalina had grown up in Braze, so she was used to the desert life. Katherine and Joan, however, were not as fortunate to have been raised in a scorching wasteland of dehydration and skin disease.
Katherine sluggishly wiped away a torrent of sweat from her brow. Jane had given them supplies for the journey to the different territories, but the glass bow strapped to her back felt like it was burning her alive. Joan was lucky enough to just get a simple ebony dagger, but she looked just as miserable. Her grey felt clothes and extra fur paddings for protection looked like they were roasting her like a chicken. Hints of blotchy sunburns were already starting to appear on her long, whip-thin white tail and ears.
Catalina gazed over a sand dune, looking for any signs of her home city. Behind her, Joan doubled over, heaving her breaths. Katherine could see several streams of sweat cascading through her white-blonde hair.
“We shouldn’t be far.” Catalina said, turning back to them. It was clear she was trying not to laugh at their discomfort. “Just a little longer!”
“Easy for you to say,” Joan wheezed. She lifted her tail to keep it from touching the sand.
  “Trust me! We’re almost there!”
They began their trek once again.
“So, what’s this area of sand called?” Katherine asked, falling into step beside Catalina. “Wasteland Number Six?”
Catalina laughed. “This is Droughtmaster Dunes,” She said.
Katherine blinked. “That’s actually very fitting.”
Her friend laughed again. “Isn’t it?” She looked up at the bright blue sky, smiling. “I’m actually happy to be back. Nothing beats the sun here.” She stretched her arms out to catch the rays and signed happily.
“And that’s a good thing!” Joan barked from behind them. Heavily hindered by the sun, she was falling behind slightly. “The sun here SUCKS!”
Catalina tittered. “The mythical bovine, the Brazen Bull, was said to have made Braze, which is why it has that name. The Bull made everything here. It dug out the land it claimed for the territory, it lifted Highland Cliffs with its horns to protect us from other territories, it scraped its hooves through the ground to create the canyons, it stamped its feet to created pools for oases, and, after it was all done, it shook out the dust in its fur and filled Braze with sand.”
Katherine smiled as she listened to Catalina talk. Her friend rarely ever spoke about her homeland, so it was nice to see her reminiscing over her childhood territory.
However, she went quiet for a moment and fiddled with the sunstone necklace around her neck, lightly touching her belly with her other hand. There was an unreadable expression on her face.
“Just a fair warning,” Catalina said, “that my family is kinda weird.”
Katherine chuckled lightly. “Alright. I’m sure they’ll be fine, though. After all, you turned out amazing.”
Catalina smiled again, nudging her. “Aww. You softy!”
Katherine smiled back. “I speak the truth!”
“I need water,” Joan wheezed from behind them.
“We’re almost there, sweetie,” Catalina said, giving the poor Tiefling a sympathetic, but amused look.
She was right. After clambering over a particularly high sand dune, the capital city of Braze was revealed.
Aragon was a city that was smartly built around several oases. Shiny golden walls that glittered in the sunlight boxed in the civilization, and the tips of sun-dried brick houses and a particularly tall tower could be seen peeking out from over the high edges. Hints of a huge skeleton was sitting behind the furthest wall in a sunken sand pit. The clamor of people could be heard as the three of them approached the front gates where two Aasimar guards stood, wearing long, protective garbs covering every inch of skin and holding spears. They bristled as the trio approached, but their jaws weirdly dropped open after a moment.
“Princess Catalina!” The grey-skinned guard exclaimed. “Y-you’re back!”
Katherine’s and Joan’s heads whipped around to Catalina, their eyes going wide.
  “Princess?!” They both yelped.
“Surprise!” Catalina said weakly. She gathered herself up regally and turned to the dumbfounded guards. “I request to see the King and Queen.”
Both guards nodded hastily. “Of course, princess!” The grey-skinned one said.
“Right this way!” Said the other.
The three of them were whisked inside the gates.
Aragon was filled with sun-dried brick houses and sturdy wooden huts. Merchant tents and carpet canopies were set up on the entrance pavilion, where shop owners hawked their wares to anyone who passed by. Fruits and fried meat, protective desert garbs and sunscreening oils, venomous scorpions to use for something and vials of antivenom--there were so many different items being sold. The smell of sizzling meat and roasting scarab beetles and brewing coffee swirled through the hot air, attacking Katherine’s nose with aromas that made her mouth water.
Small pools dotted the city, rippling softly in the heated breeze. Some of them were burbling like a fountain, while others were edged by lush greenery that seemed to be surviving much better than the plants outside the walls. Children were playing in a few of the pools, keeping cool in the midday heat, but some adults were collecting water in buckets.
A bronze statue of a giant bull sat in the center of the city, in front of the steps leading up to the palace. It was reared up on its hind legs with its fur bristled in powerful rage and horns thrown up in the air. Smoldering coals were set in its skull, and the furry tufts of its tail were crackling with orange fire.
The palace behind the statue was huge and majestic. It seemed to be made out of actual gold, glowing in the sunlight. Gemstones were inlaid across the outer walls, sparkling like colorful eyes. There were no front doors so the breeze could filter inside, so the guards led the three of them right inside.
Two thrones were sitting at the back of the wide, high-vaulted entrance room. They were made of solid gold, embedded with rubies and emeralds and cushioned by soft camel fur pillows. A curtain of water was pouring out behind the royal seats from the ceiling, collecting into a bubbling trough pool. The desert could be seen rippling behind the sheet of water.
And in the thrones sat the king and queen.
Queen Isabella was glowing like a polished garnet. The dress she wore was made of silk, in a rich dark orange shade that allowed her thick black hair to be shown to best advantage, and edged with ribbon and lace that perfectly set off her fire-like amber eyes and dark tanned skin. Golden veils wreathed her blood red wings, and yellow diamonds, topazes, sunstones, and tourmalines hung from her arms in glittering curtains of wealth. An elaborate headpiece made of gold and rubies sat on her head, with strands of gemstones dangling down into her face. Three golden medallions hung around her neck- one had a symbol of a broken rib cage etched on it, the second had what looked like small intestines forming the shape of a coiled snake, and the third had a faceless head.
King Ferdinand was less flashy than his wife, wearing simple cotton clothes with a camel fur cape around his neck and onyx wristbands on his wrists. His skin was slightly blotchy from sun damage and his hair was long and ash brown. Pale orange-salmon wings were folded neatly against his back, not nearly as big as the queen’s.
The two of them leapt to their feet from the throne when Catalina walked in.
“Catalina!!” They both cried, bustling over to their daughter. They threw their wings around Catalina, swaying her in glee, but Katherine noticed how Catalina just barely hugged them back.
“Oh, my dearest desert flower,” Ferdinand said. “You’re finally home after all these years!”
“It’s so good to see you again,” Isabella said. “You’ve been gone for so long!”
Catalina nodded reservedly. “Yes. It has been.”
The king and queen stepped back, taking in the sight of their daughter. Isabella’s joyous expression faded into a calculating one when she noticed Catalina’s pregnant belly, while Ferdinand just blinked at it.
  “You’re pregnant,” Isabella said.
“Yes, I am,” Catalina said, ruffling up the feathers in her hair. “I hope that isn’t any issue, Mother.”
Isabella considered the bump, like she thought the baby was going to jump out now and steal her throne. “Who’s the father?”
“His name is Arthur.” Catalina said.
  “Where is he?”
  “Not here.”
“You aren’t with your baby’s own father anymore?”
  “Oh my god.”
Catalina glanced back at Katherine and Joan for a moment, giving them a, “Here we go again” kind of look. She turned back to her parents with as much reserve as she could manage.
“What is he?” Ferdinand asked, glancing at Catalina’s belly every few seconds.
“A human.” Catalina answered. “I hope that isn’t an issue, Father.”
Ferdinand just cleared his throat and looked away. Katherine could tell that he didn’t have as much power as his wife, therefore making him weaker in disputes, even ones that don’t have to do with court matters.
“You shouldn’t just sleep with random strangers, Catalina.” Isabella scolded.
“I’m not!” Catalina barked, her face heating up. “Arthur is--was different! And why does it even matter to you? It’s not your body, it’s mine! And if I want to use it to sleep with people, then I should be allowed to!”
“Well, your body is holding my grandson. Or granddaughter.” There was something icy about the way Isabella said that word, and Katherine noticed how Catalina shuddered and set a hand over her belly protectively. “Plus, you’re still my daughter and I’m concerned over what you’re doing. You already ran off and disappeared for five years!”
Catalina rolled her eyes. “Don’t act like you weren’t happy.”
“I wasn’t.” Isabella growled, her blood red feathers standing on end like an angry cat’s fur.
“Sure you weren’t.” Catalina challenged her.
Ferdinand quickly put himself between his wife and his father. “That’s enough, that’s enough,” He said. “The point is that Catalina is home safe. That is what matters.”
“Hm. Of course.” Isabella said, settling her expression back into stolid noble maturity.
Catalina growled softly underneath her breath, and Katherine set a comforting hand on her shoulder. Isabella glanced at her, an eyebrow twitching up.
“Introduce us to your friend, Catalina.” The queen said.
Grinding her teeth a being ordered around, Catalina said, “This is Katherine. And this over here is J--”
  “TIEFLING!”
Katherine jumped at the cry. Isabella suddenly whipped out a hidden dagger from inside her right wing, her face contorting with rage and feathers ruffling up into two big red masses. Several guards around the room jumped to attention with their weapons raised, and even mellow Ferdinand growled softly and raised his wings to look more threatening. Meanwhile, Joan just blinked in frightened confusion, curling her tail in close.
“Catalina, you brought a TIEFLING into our home?!” Isabella shouted, and Katherine saw Joan wince and lower her ears.
“I didn’t recognize it at first,” Ferdinand said at her side, slightly more to himself than to the others in the room. “Why does it look like that? Aren’t they usually red or blue?”
“Her name is Joan.” Catalina said, stepping up beside Joan, exuding a protective aura. “And she’s with me. There’s no need to worry.”
“There is every reason to worry,” Isabella hissed. “You brought a Tiefling into our city! A TIEFLING!! Don’t you know what they are?” She didn’t wait for Catalina to answer her, “They’re DEMONS! Goat-faced, hell-touched, unbirthed DEMONS!”
“Mother, will you stop shouting?” Catalina said, agitation biting her words. A few people from outside were peeking in and ogling the scene with wide, curious eyes. “Joan isn’t bad. She’s my friend. And you’re not going to throw her out.”
Isabella narrowed her eyes at Joan, sizing her up several times. She sniffed. “We’re going to have to put her through decontamination.”
  “Mother--”
“You will not fight me on this, Catalina.” Isabella said firmly, turning her knife-like gaze on her daughter. “She will be back with you soon enough. But she is a Tiefling and this needs to happen for our safety.”
Catalina clenched her fists tightly, but said, “Fine.”
Isabella smiled like a venomous snake. “Very good.”
Catalina turned to Joan and cupped one of her cheeks. “You’re going to be okay, sweetheart. My family is just super paranoid over some races and feels the need to do a really stupid examination on them before they can have free reign in the city.” She brushed an unruly lock of white-blonde hair out of Joan’s face. “You’ll be out in no time, alright?”
Joan nodded quietly, and Catalina gave her a quick hug before a group of guards came to take Joan away. The young Tiefling glanced back at Katherine and Catalina, her tail slightly tucked between her legs and ears folded back, before disappearing down a hallway and out of sight. Isabella shook her head with a look of visible distaste.
“I don’t know why you would ever befriend one of those beasts,” The queen said, earning a growl from Catalina. Katherine put her hand back on Catalina’s shoulder, hoping to provide some comfort to her. “Anyway, I’ll alert the chefs. Your arrival back home needs a celebration!”
And celebrate they did.
That night, when the desert dropped to a startling cold temperature for a blisteringly hot wasteland, the Brazens of Aragon rejoiced in the return of their missing princess. Firelight emblazed then night sky, the Bull’s horns were lit with golden flames, and a band played Catalina’s favorite instruments. Cactus juice, strange alcoholic concoctions, and camel milk were passed out in tinted yellow glasses, and roasted desert fruits, grilled meat, and spicy hot foods were served on bronze trays you could see your reflection on. Aasimars danced and twirled in the main pavilion, celebrating gleefully, all while Catalina stood at the top of the steps leading to the palace, receiving guests and graciously accepting their best wishes. Everyone had a smile for her. Some of the adults looked at her appraisingly--only to be expected, Katherine supposed, as she was royalty--and many of the youngsters tried to flirt. Catalina humored them lightly solely for the entertainment of their reactions.
Katherine got lost in the festivities rather quickly. One moment she was getting her tongue melted by a painfully spicy dish, and then next she had a glass of translucent greenish juice thrust into her hands. She tasted it as she tottered up to Catalina and made a face at how bitter it was. Catalina laughed lightly.
“That’s Snake Wine,” The princess told her, “It’s made out of cactus juice that we put a dead snake in and leave out to ferment in the sun for a week.”
Katherine silently spit the mouthful of Snake Wine back into her cup. Catalina burst out into laughter so loud it rivaled the blaring music and made several people’s heads turn in curiosity.
“That is, umm,” Katherine said, covering her mouth. “Ah--”
“Horrible?” Catalina smiled and passed her a napkin. Katherine took it gratefully.
“Your words, not mine,” Katherine said, wiping her mouth. “But yes.”
Catalina giggled. “It’s better than that weird berry crap you used to have me drink.”
Katherine gasped with a wounded expression. “Berry Milk is amazing, thank you very much!”
“Berry juice and milk do not go together! You have to choose one, Kat! ONE! You can’t have both!”
They both laughed, earning even more confused stares.
“Are you happy to be back?” Katherine asked after a moment of serene silence between her and her friend.
Catalina shrugged, losing her smile. “I guess. I mean, I like seeing the city again and all my old friends, but…” She cast a frustrated expression at her parents, who were chatting animatedly with two old nobles. “Like I said before, my family is weird.”
Katherine frowned. “I’m sorry.” Hoping to get Catalina’s mind off of her family issues, she looked over at a tall orange tower in the far right corner of the city. It was made of dried clay, with several twists, points, and spires, and Katherine noticed the deep red of a Kobold snout peeking out of one of the large barred windows. “What’s that?”
Catalina looked at the tower. “Oh that’s Hotshot Hall. It’s our prison.” She said. “Mother doesn’t like having the prisoners near the palace, so they’re kept as far away as possible.” She wrinkled her nose.
“Ah,” Katherine nodded, watching the Kobold pull back inside the tower.
“Well, maybe you’ll get to see a Calf Scramble while we’re here,” Catalina mused. “So that’s something to look forward to.”
“Calf Scramble?” Katherine looked at her confusedly.
“Oh, it’s great,” Catalina said. “Five people are taken out to the sinkhole in the back of the city and have to try and catch these camel calves we release with them. It is HILARIOUS to watch them run around and slip in the sand!”
Katherine smiled. “I look forward to it!”
“Princess Catalina! Princess Catalina!” An eager young voice called.
“A princess’ work is never done,” Catalina said to Katherine, smiling. She bumped her shoulder affectionately. “Have some fun, Kat. I’ll talk to you again later.”
Once Catalina whisked off to go speak with more people, Katherine delved back into the party for a little while longer before straying away to explore.
Aragon was truly a lavish city, even for a civilization in the middle of a desert wasteland. She passed by several cozy-looking houses and lively bars decorated with desert flowers, all abandoned for the celebration.
She soon found herself in a small clearing between buildings where an oasis pool sat. Two bendy palm trees swayed lightly in the breeze, and clustered of paddle-shaped succulents hounded the edges of the pool. Katherine sat down on a smooth stone and looked up at the sky, where every single star in the entire universe seemed to be visible.
  “Beautiful, isn’t it?”
Katherine jerked around, nearly falling off of the rock and into the pool.
Queen Isabella was standing in an alleyway feeding into the clearing, darkness shrouded over her. She stepped out into the moonlight, and all her gemstones glittered like eyes around her.
  “Yes,” Katherine nodded, composing herself.
“Why aren’t you celebrating?” Isabella asked, standing above Katherine.
“I’m just taking a breather, Your Majesty,” Katherine answered. “Is that alright?”
Isabella eyed Katherine suspiciously. “Of course,” She said slowly. She looked up at the sky. “When did you meet my daughter? You seem to be good friends.”
“Five years ago,” Katherine said. “She lived in a city next to my forest village and wandered in one day. After an interrogation, I was showing her out and we just started talking. She kept coming back after that and became a regular visitor in the village.”
“Hm.” Isabella said. “Well, I thank you for bringing my daughter back home safe.” She looked down at Katherine and smiled, sending chills down Katherine’s spine. “I am so, very pleased.”
————
The celebration was still going on when Katherine eventually turned in for the night. She went to her lavish guest bedroom in the palace to sleep, but not before visiting Catalina.
Catalina was in her own huge bedroom, sitting under the marigold velvet blankets in her equally giant bed. She was looking down at a painting in her hands, and didn’t look up from it when Katherine walked inside.
“I ran away because I wasn’t happy in Aragon.”
Katherine walked over and sat down next to Catalina. The painting she was holding had four girls in it, all smiling and engulfing each other in their wings.
“I was restricted from doing so many things and Mother watched my every move.” Catalina went on, her voice brimming with hate. “I couldn’t stand it.” She brushed her hands over the surface of the painting, an expression of longing in her eyes. “You probably think I’m just being selfish and snobby, but you don’t know how things happen here.”
“Then tell me,” Katherine urged softly. She set a hand on Catalina’s thigh, letting her know she was there for me.
Catalina sighed. “The queen rules in Braze. And that’s great, you know, girl power, yay!” She laughed dryly. “But the way we take the throne…” She trailed off, shifting uncomfortably. “Only daughters, nieces, granddaughters, and aunts are allowed to challenge for the throne. And they do this by fighting the queen. To the death.”
Katherine frowned, quickly understanding why Catalina didn’t like the system.
“Mother’s three sisters died young, so she didn’t have any competition growing up.” Catalina went on. “She challenged my grandmother when she was twenty-two and killed her swiftly. Crushed her ribs during the fight. Then, she married Father and started having children. She said she would only humor four female heirs. No more than that.”
She pointed to the tallest girl. Her wings were dark indigo and powerful-looking, and she had glowing golden skin. Dark brown hair was cut short around her head, bordering her fiery green eyes. She was wearing the sunstone necklace that Catalina now had around her neck.
“That’s Juana, my second oldest sister. She had the wildest temper and always thought of fun stuff for us and my other sisters to do. She also LOVED to challenge the teachers she had.” A smile pulled on Catalina’s lips, then quickly disappeared. “She challenged Mother when I was ten. I swear, she nearly beat mother to death; Juana did not mess around when it came to combat. And she would have won, too. She should have won. But then Mother, bleeding, bruised, and pinned on the ground beneath her, looked up and said, ‘I’m proud of you.’ Mother doesn’t say that often. Rarely ever. Juana hesitated, smiled, and then Mother slashed her stomach open with a dagger hidden in the bends of her wings. I still remember Juana’s face. That look of realization. She had looked down at her organs now hanging out of her stomach and grabbed at them like she was going to try and put them back in, then looked at me and my sisters with the most agonized face I’ve ever seen on her before.” She dipped her head and swallowed thickly, blinking back tears. “I think--I think she thought she failed us.”
After a moment of silence, Catalina swiftly wiped her eyes, sniffled, and then pointed to the next girl. Her wings were narrow but shiny and the color of raw salmon and hibiscus flowers. Her tree bark brown eyes were calculating and calm, but her smile was bright and beaming.
“That’s Maria. My oldest sister. She was like the voice of reason for the group, but she always got dragged into mischief anyway. She was also really good at getting us out of trouble. Except that time Juana mooned our history tutor.” She laughed, tracing her fingers over Maria’s long brown hair. “After Juana died, she became a lot more protective over me and my sister. I never thought she was going to challenge Mother, but she did when I was sixteen. Because Mother gave birth to another female child. A healthy baby girl. But, three days after she was born, she just--disappeared. One night, she was there, and then the next morning she wasn’t. Nobody ever said anything about her again, but Maria was furious because she knew Mother had killed our baby sister.” She swallowed thickly. “Maria was never a fighter. She was good at non-lethal combat, not--not what the challenge for the throne was. After she was beaten senselessly, cut up and bleeding all over the sand, she begged Mother for her life, saying she forfeit the challenge and wouldn’t try to overthrow her again. And Mother decapitated her.”
With the sadness of losing her sisters came anger, and Katherine saw Catalina grip the sides of the painting tightly and grit her teeth in rage.
Catalina pointed to the last girl. Her wings were fluffy and a goldfish orange color. She was small and had large, innocent dark amber eyes and sun-kissed brown hair she kept up in a messy bun.
“That’s Isabella Jr. Pretentious of Mother to name her that, huh? We just call her Izzy.” Catalina said. “Izzy’s the youngest out of the four of us. She was always worried in a cute way and was super smart. After Maria died, she became a lot more clingy towards me. I let her sleep in my bed at night because she was too scared to sleep alone. Not that I blamed her. Mother always looked at us like she was just daring us to challenge her. It scared the poor thing.” She shook her head. “But then I ran away. I left Izzy alone. I didn’t tell her where I was going or what I was doing, I didn’t even leave her a note or ask her to come along. I just--left.”
She gently touched her pregnant belly. “I hope they aren’t a girl. I can’t stand the thought of Mother doing something to them to get rid of competition.”
She shook her head and looked up at Katherine, her eyes shining in the candlelight. “This may be my home, but this is not my family. You and Joan are.”

Fjorclay Mech Au maybe? thanks!
“hello, mister fjord.”
he startles, almost pitches over the railing.
caduceus clay is a strange one.
he could say that— has, actually, said that— about everyone else here, but with caduceus he really means it. he says he’s from somewhere up north, out of empire territory, and he flies like it, too.
that is to say, caduceus clay kinda flies like shit.
not that he really needs to fly well— the grove’s a tank, it’s got those big beetle wings and debris just kinda glances off ‘em, and unlike jessie he seems perfectly content to stay back and run support instead of anything fancy. the grove has these wicked little drones it sends out, like tiny versions of itself, and caduceus lets them crawl all over him when they’re back in the hangar for repairs.
it’s a little creepy, maybe, but mostly fjord’s just fascinated.
(“she’s a family heirloom, actually,” caduceus hums, rubbing at the snout of the grove, where dust has collected in ghostly sprays. “you wanna see something?”
“uh—“ fjord says, and looks around. they usually leave caduceus to fix the grove himself, he’s noticed, the techs. this far end of the hangar is quiet, a little dark. “sure.”
caduceus smiles, and there’s a second where fjord’s waiting for him to do something, waiting to see what caduceus wants to show him.
then, he sees it.
the grove is moving.
just a little motion, leaning herself against caduceus’s hand, but it still stops him dead.
caleb would say there was someone or something else in the cockpit, maybe, but fjord doesn’t even know how caduceus gets into the grove. there’s a half-open cockpit near the head, and he sees caduceus in it, alright, but how he gets there from here, fjord has no idea.
neither do the techs, he thinks. and caduceus really isn’t the type for autopilot. parts of the grove are made of wood, for god’s sake— glossy, petrified wood inlaid with these crystalline panels.
“how—“
“she was a gift, you know?” caduceus says, and lets his hand fall. the grove settles back onto its legs, silently. “not just to me. my family, they’ve had her for more generations than we can count.”
if fjord knows one thing, it’s mechs don’t last that long. passing your life’s work onto your kid— your partner, even— that’s getting lucky. maybe not with him and vandren— and, well, avantika, too, it’s starting to seem— but that’s different.
caduceus’s doesn’t seem like his kind of different.
caduceus seems a little like a better kind of different.
“yeah?”
“she isn’t always a beetle, either. clarabelle had her last, and then—“ he frowns. “well, i think the mother called her home before she sent her to me. i don’t know what happened.”
“the mother?”
“she made the grove,” caduceus says, a little dreamily. “and she fixes her up every time the next person needs her, so she’s exactly what they need. so she suits them.”
he’s quiet, for a long moment. fjord is about to ask, and the reason he doesn’t quite get to it is that there’s just so much to ask— fjord has never heard of another maker like his, the idea that there could be someone else, something else than this, is so immediately intoxicating and terrifying it steals his breath. and caduceus seems almost choked up, for perhaps the first time, fjord has no idea what to do with that.
but caduceus turns back to him again, and smiles. it’s a lovely, dizzy sort of thing, a lazy pull to the corners of his mouth, watching fjord with those strange, wide eyes. “do you think she suits me, mister fjord?”)
(he does, indeed.)
below them, in the repair bay, fathoms is getting looked over. under the grime and silt of the last mission, the places where it had eaten up the scrap of the weaver, summer’s dance and all, still show through. when fathoms recycles something, it’s never subtle.
always wants to show them off, fjord thinks, and the chill that runs down his spine when he looks at the half-exposed core, lidded like some awful eye, feels even colder than it had yesterday. even friends are prizes.
“are you ever afraid that it’ll eat you someday?”
yes.
“what?”
it’s really impressive, how caduceus gets at what he’s thinking without even trying. fuck’s sake, he’s not even looking at fjord, just down over the rail at the big underbelly jaws of fathoms where they’ve been pried open to fix the broken teeth.
“such big teeth,” is all caduceus has to say to that, “is it even possible to not be hungry, with teeth like that?”
“i—“
“i spoke to the mother,” caduceus says, and looks over at him. “and i think she can help you.”
“deuces, i, it’s not that simple—“
it’s too late for him, isn’t it? the promise of it, of piloting uk’otoa himself, like not even vandren could, for all his talk, used to be so alluring it was like the want was gnawing at his insides. now, though, he just feels empty. it’s stupid, it’s in every book, but he wonders for a second about what it means to be a pilot. about which of them, him and the big snake buried below the sea, is piloting which.
“it can be, though,” caduceus says gently. “if you let it.”
fjord looks down at fathoms, thinks about the glitter of the weaver under the moon and wonders if he can salvage the parts of the summer’s dance. he wakes up, some nights, eyes stinging with tears, missing molly something fucking fierce, and wants to tear the gold back out of fathoms.
you didn’t earn this, he thinks. chew up someone else’s grave.
“i’ll think on it.”
“it’s your decision.” caduceus covers fjord’s hands, clenched as they are on the rail, with his own until they loosen. “but you don’t have to live like this.”
he can see it, then, in that moment. caduceus passes something into him, some divine spark from his mother, and in his mind’s eye he sees himself in the cockpit of something bright and cold and sharp, gleaming like snow beneath the sun. like silver to a forgotten gold.
“maybe,” he says, and it rasps traitorously from his throat. “can i be there, again, when you call her?”
“of course,” caduceus says, “she’d be happy to see you,” and maybe the warmth is slight, but it comes after so much nothing, after so much cold, and there in the hangar it feels like caduceus has dropped the sun into fjord’s chest, warm and searing and alive.

August third Prompt Serene.
EDIT: I completely forgot to add ages. Luna is 25/26- asra 23/24. Not gonna lie, I don’t know what the cannon ages are for Asra - some say he is like 26/28 at the beginning of the series and I am going with that cuz I write about adults.  A/N: This is set in pre-canon. The Prompt Serene.
No major triggers just the mention of minor characters fate's. This is domestic fluff with an ominous ending. (spoilers ((kinda?)) if you have not finished any routes). Rating is M for language, sexual themes, and minor character death. This is asraxmc (my mc Luna) Summary: Luna and Asra love each other and such love cannot even be stopped by death, right? “Fuck!” Luna keened as she finished her orgasm. She was on top of Asra, who beneath her was a panting mess of a person. His face flushed like hers and his breaths shallow as he praised her with breathless admiration. He finished a short minute later and sighed with her sweet nothings echoing in his mind. She got off of him and they got themselves under the sheets and Luna laid her head on his chest. Asra kissed the top of her head as they caught their breaths.
The outside world didn’t exist when she was here in her partner’s arms. The sun had begun to set, warm colors of the ended day streamed in through the hastily closed curtains. There was a serenity in their breathing syncing. The silver of her laugh and the gold of his smile. She was his moon and he was her sun. Why not have a little star or two around?  Their serenity happily broken by the pitter patter of little feet. Or the sticky fingers that poked their faces and smelled of the honey jar they stole into when their parents were occupied. Luna’s smile caused her cheeks to hurt.
“The Masquerade is soon,” Asra broke the silence with his tender voice. “What should we dress up as this year?”
Luna was silent for awhile before she said her peace, “Actually, before we discuss this there is something else I- I have been meaning to ask.”
The stammer prompted Asra to rise onto his elbows and Luna sat up. The linen blanket pooled at her bare waist. She tossed back her long black curls and didn't dare meet him in the eyes. Asra frowned, “Luna, is everything alright? You're not shy.”
They both shared a chuckle. He took her fidgeting hand in his and rubbed the palm of her hand, he waited for her to be ready. Luna took a deep breath and said at last, “What if I didn't drink the tea?” she lazily pointed at the lukewarm tea nestled cozily in the saucer. “What if I didn't drink the tea for the next few times...what if I said I wanted to grow our family?”
Asra's face journey was a short one. There was first confusion, surprise, fear, concern and then excited. “Is this what you want?” He asked with a content smile, his warm skin tone contrasted beautifully with her cool skin tone as he cupped her cheek. She had averted away from him during his processing. They met again, purple with blue. “Yes, Its taken me several months- but you're all I have Asra. My aunt is dead- my sisters and brother are gone and probably dead, my parents as well- if I have anyone else, I wouldn't know. And you- well, hopefully they can get out soon.” Luna chewed on her lip, they didn't like to talk about Asra's parents.
Asra's gaze shifted to their hands between them in their laps. Their knees touched and her head went to his shoulder. He embraced her and rubbed her back, “I think, I might need some time to think about this, is that alright?”
Luna glanced back up at him with a shy smile, “Yes, I think that's fair- I did kind of spring this on you.” Luna reached over and drank down the tea in two long drinks and placed it back down. “It's not that I don't want a family, Luna, its just that I have not spent months thinking about this- I swirled it around once or twice but I never thought hard on it.”
Luna chuckled, “I think it's because I am a little older than you.”
“By a few years.”
“Ah, yes, but it can still make a difference.” “We will readdress this after the Masquerade.” They laughed, Asra laid back down and began to list off the animals they could go as this year. Even throwing in that Muriel might need help with his costume. His voice faded from her ears, becoming almost white noise, she looked at her deck. The Arcana was whispering to her. They sounded like they were fighting, some calling out for her attention and others bickering amongst themselves. Her eyes went back and forth from Asra's relaxed frame, his hands behind his head and eye dancing with delight and the ever growing noise from her deck.  Then she heard it. The skittering of ….beetles? Red began to grow in her peripherals as she stared at her deck. Her vision tunneled and all she saw was red seeping in around her deck. Her pulse quickened she smelled smoke and tasted iron. Asra's voice disappeared completely under the cacophony of the cards. Absentmindedly she rose from her love nest and went to the dilapidated dark stained wooden dresser and reached for the top of the deck. The MOON frowned up at her. She inhaled sharply- illusion, deception, difficult times, fear and hidden things. She was compelled to flip the next although she resisted but nonetheless she flipped over the next Card. The TOWER. Her hand shook above it. Tears welled in her eyes and cast off hotly down her cheeks. Danger, crisis, sudden change and destruction was all it said to her.
Luna hyperventilated. She resisted but her hand drew one last card. DEATH. She knew it didn't mean physical death but illness it said- an end and a failure. It was unbearable, she peeled herself away after she scattered the three cards. She turned away as the two cards on top of the deck called to her. She hit something warm that smelled of green and ginger tea. Asra, naked as the day they were born, held her close.
“Luna, you frightened me, what did they say.”
Luna shook her head in his embrace, his words were golden notes that cut through the skittering sounds of beetles and screams. She just buried herself into his embrace and he shushed her comfortingly.

So it’s the holiday season, which in a lot of households means presents. You know who has more merch than almost any other Flash villain (1. being Reverse Flash as of my last count)? Captain Cold!
Have a Len lover in your life? Need to give your family gift ideas? Peep this list, y’all!
I used to own...basically everything with Len on it. I had the largest Flash collection in the southern US until about 3 years ago, when I sold the vast majority of it, and gave away even more. These reviews come from in-hand experience. Let’s start with the Original Lad:
DC Direct Captain Cold
Tumblr media
Holy macaroni, was this figure terrible. Yes it was comic-accurate at the time, but you could not pose it, you could not keep it standing, and the face when you removed the glasses? Nightmare fuel. Still, it was a figure from 2001, and they really were doing their best, so I’d have to rate this guy a 2 out of 5.
These next two came out around roughly the same time, but could not be more different in quality. First up, DC Direct Justice Captain Cold
Tumblr media
Strictly speaking, this figure was beautiful. Yeah it was in the hyper-realistic style of Alex Ross, who I’ve never been a fan of, but it was toned down in a way that made it less uncanny valley. The figure had stubble painted on, and if you removed the hood (which you technically could but shouldn’t), he had hair under there! But still, this was a DC Direct figure from 2008, so it had all the same flaws that a figure from that time period tended to have: absolutely a bitch to pose, hard to keep upright without the base (I let mine lean against the wall whenever I needed the base for even more precarious figures), joints prone to snapping if you worked him too hard. Still, by far my favorite of the DC Direct/Collectibles Len figures, if not my favorite full-size figure. 4.5 of 5.
Meanwhile in big box stores across the nation, DC Universe Classics was releasing their best wave yet, wave 7. Man, I had that whole thing aside from Aquaman; Big Barda, Flash, Kid Flash, Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, and of course, Captain Cold
Tumblr media
This is the ugliest Len figure. Hands down, the least visually appealing. Which is a shame, because it’s also one of the best! Completely comic accurate until you hit the upper torso/head area, a ridiculous amount of articulation, with the single best cold gun of any of these figures...but jfc that expression. The weird poncho/hood always bothered me too, because while it was almost comic accurate, something just threw it off the track and made it look more ridiculous than cool. 3.5 out of 5.
After the New 52 hit, DC Collectibles released 2 Captain Cold figures in rapid succession, one that was packaged alone, and one that came as part of a 7-figure set
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Can you spot the differences? There’s just one: the Len from the 7-figure set is in a dark blue suit, and doesn’t come with the ice mace and ice dagger. Like all DC Direct figures before them, these DC Collectibles figures are pretty to look at, but offer very little in the way of articulation. They could be hard to keep upright, which was annoying, as neither came with a stand, and do not try to take off the hood. Nothing under there. Still, they were very pretty depictions of a popular redesign, so I feel alright giving these guys a 3 of 5.
DC Collectibles spat out a final Len figure for the CWverse line back in 2015
Tumblr media
As a big fan of Wentworth Miller and his face, I feel this figure could have been better. I mean, I’ve seen Arrowverse figures that are spot on, and this one just is not. Maybe it’s because the goggles obscure a good portion of the face, I don’t know. That being said, I love this figure, and it’s actually one I re-bought at a convention recently, along with the Heatwave figure from the same line, that hadn’t been released when I’d started selling off all of my toys. The costume is show-accurate, the figure comes with an extra set of hands, and the gun is just really cool. This is a solid 4 of 5 figure.
These next toys aren’t action figures per say, as they don’t do much in the way of action, but they’re cute and I like them, for the most part.
Funko took over the market and the world back in 2010 when it first introduced the Pop Vinyl figures, but it took a hit TV show to get Flash villains other than the Reverse Flash into production. There are 3 Captain Cold Funko products currently out, the two Pop Vinyls and a Re-Action figure
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, I love the first Pop Vinyl. The round, lifeless black eyes of the Pops have freaked me out for a long time, but with Len in his sweet goggles, this Pop is perfect for me. I actually have him on a shelf in my closet. The variant...look, I like how they included the actual real-life hairline Wentworth Miller has, but those creepy eyes just kill it for me. The Re-Action figure, by the way, is garbage. They’re supposed to be based on the lines of toys that came out back in the 80s, but all that means to me is little to no articulation, weird molds that look nothing like the character they’re supposed to be, and few if any accessories. Why is he wearing a tie??? Just. The worst. 5 of 5 for Pop 1, 3 of 5 for Pop 2, and 1 of 5 for the Re-Action figure.
There are a bunch of figures that came out before Funko’s reign that have little to no articulation, and here they are:
Action League Citizen Cold, from the Batman: The Brave and the Bold line
Tumblr media
I love a good boy??? 5 of 5, absolutely perfect. No you can’t pose him, but he already comes in a dynamic, interesting pose. This is my absolute favorite of all the non-poseable figures, and I miss mine all the time.
Imaginext, a line of toys for very young superhero fans, made a New 52 Captain Cold a few years back
Tumblr media
Honestly, Imaginext toys are ridiculous, and I love every single one of them. They’re great toys for little kids, and yeah, Len is completely bald underneath that hoodie and ice gun backpack, but he has a snowball cannon to compensate with, so who’s the real loser?! 5 of 5, beautiful.
Did you kno w that back in 2011, McDonalds put out a line of Happy Meal Young Justice toys featuring Captain Cold??? Did you want to know? Too bad, you know now.
Tumblr media
My dad’s dog chewed up his ice projectile, rendering the actual immobile figure completely useless...but I still really like it??? Like, it’s a toy that came with food that I sweet-talked the counter guy into giving me. It’s a worthless little nothing of a toy...but I still like it. 3 of 5.
Pocket Heroes were a weird little line of 3-inch figures that came in two-packs. One of those packs contained Flash and Captain Cold
Tumblr media
You can basically only move their arms and legs, and while this figure comes with a cold gun and a remarkably ripped set of abs and pecs, the design never really appealed to me. 2.5 out of 5.
I collected MiniMates once upon a time. 2.5 inch figures that were basically fancy LEGOs? Deal me in! ViniMates are uh. Not that.
Tumblr media
ViniMates are 6-inch figures and I Do Not Like Them. Being made of vinyl makes them almost completely free of articulation, so the post you get them in is the one they stay in. Also, this one is based on the show-interpretation of Len and it seems to be smoldering at me. Don’t like that. 1 out of 5.
On the other end of the vinyl spectrum, the Mini-Mezitz line from Mezco is simply delightful.
Tumblr media
Mini-Mezitz were 2-inch figures with articulation in their arms, legs, and neck joints. I love mine, and they have been hanging out on the top of my bookcase for like 7 years now. 4 out of 5, absolutely weird-dorable.
Eaglemoss once put my blog on the front page of their website without telling me, back when I was actively snapping pictures of my Flash collection. The Eaglemoss lead figures, once you get past the fact that yes, these dudes are made of painted lead so maybe handle with care, are a good staple in any collection. Captain Cold got two
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both Eaglemoss figures came with information booklets about Captain Cold, though the chess piece New 52 version focused almost solely on his New 52 history. They’re both very detailed, and I really like them. 3.5 out of 5.
I never watched Thomas the Tank Engine as a kid...but I saw this weirdass thing in a HomeGoods one day and just kinda. Stopped and stared.
Tumblr media
He’s a train. Len is a train now. Don’t like it. 1 out of 5.
So there’s this company called Kotobukiya. They’re most famous for their bishoujo statues, but they make guys too. I had the Flash Kotobukiya statue, back in the day. I was not collecting Flash stuff when they made a Captain Cold one.
Tumblr media
I’m actually apparently getting this as a gift from my boyfriend for Hanukkah. He finally got access to my wishlist. This statue is based on the Francis Manapul New 52 redesign, and it is what we call Big Sexy. Frankly, I give it a 5 out of 5.
No offense to Wentworth Miller, but my favorite Captain Cold TV appearance is always going to be his role in the JLU episode, Flash and Substance.
Tumblr media
The JLU figures were all godawful, but hell if we as a fandom didn’t gobble them up back in the day. I had all the available Rogues, Len, Heatwave, Captain Boomerang, Weather Wizard, “Justice Lords Flash” (who was really just Reverse Flash, let’s be real), Mirror Master...it’s the most complete set of Rogues you can get, actually. But they were terrible figures; the Dorito-like shape of the shoulder to waist ratio combined with the narrow feet of the figure guaranteed that these toys would not stay upright without a stand. They had no articulation, and most came without weapons. But you could get three-packs of them in Target for like $12, and they were designed with children in mind, so. 3.5 out of 5, because frankly, the Timmverse designs will always tug at my nostalgia strings.
Captain Cold is available in two official LEGO forms
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first is from the Mighty Macros line, and features Len vs the Flash in a racecar vs snowmobile race. It’s very cute and easy to build. The second is the more challenging Gorilla Grodd Goes Bananas set, which also includes Flash, Grodd, and strangely enough, Batman and Wonder Woman. I never owned that set, and it’s pretty hard to find these days, regularly running $80 and up. Both sets are a 5 out of 5, though, because LEGO does not mess around when it comes to quality fun.
I saved my favorites for last. In the 70s, there was a line of toys called MEGOs, which were plastic-bodied toys with cloth suits. Mattel, and later the Figures Toy Company, would both do their own versions of Captain Cold
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first version, by Mattel, is amazing. Mine is literally sitting next to me as I type this. I took him to Universal with me when I won a trip to Halloween Horror Nights back in 2015, I take him to the movies with me when I don’t have anyone else to go with, he’s my little buddy. My dad’s dog, again, chewed his left arm completely off at one point, but I don’t care. I love him. As for the Figures Toys version, I actually won a fairly cheap auction for him earlier this week, so we shall see! I don’t know if I like how he has the whole “Super Friends hypothermia Len” look going on, but I do like how his costume isn’t just cheap, tearable vinyl. We shall see what’s under that hood soon. I give the Mattel one a 5 out of 5 for the years of joy he’s given me. The Figures Toys one is pending, but I’m gonna give a tentative 4 out of 5, because it really does look nice.
You could get Len in other forms, like as a game piece in the Heroclix and Dice Masters games, as a paintable figure for a Batman tabletop roleplaying game, as trading cards, as a set of guitar picks, as a card holder, as a very hard to find but still lovely statue from DC Direct, in official pin form from Funko and Fansets, on an old 7-Eleven cup, and of course, in the pages of the comics...but I’ve always liked toys, so that’s what I decided to go over. Hope y’all enjoyed this, and maybe got some ideas for your own collections.

i told my bro abt this dream and hes just like why are your dreams so dark (so like, tw for this one)
but honestly i didnt really consider this dark it was oddly beautiful if scary. im going to fill in parts with what i think could have happened there but im also not going to include the details for what the room looked like in every scene besides whats neccassary, cause this was so vivid i could try to describe to you what each PERSON looked like and people usually dont even have faces in my dreams!
its still long so heres a read more
beginning of the dream im walking home at dusk and im coming from a direction i almost nvr walk, except for when its halloween. so it may have been halloween in my dream, the sunset is a beautiful BRIGHT orange and its on the side of my house rather than behind like it usually is but thats a minor detail.
cause around the house behind mine theres a very strange cloud formation, much lower than i usually see clouds and its not foggy but its just, theres clouds wrapped around the house except for the front and the wall just goes up and up and up to the top and slightly past the house. paired with the sunset i think thats really beautiful so i take some pics with my phone and go closer just to see how close i can get before the clouds disappear and then i’ll go home
i didnt get to go home, the clouds wrapped fully around the house and a strong, something, stopped me from leaving. also there was like an evil to/riel so she mighta been the one doing that
next part of the dream kinda jumps around so ill have to infer some parts but essentially the house changes from the building ive seen there for you know, my entire life, to a small dark wooden mansion. also muffet is there and guess what she ALSO sucks. and then theres this bitch blond haired human pony tail man and hes dumb and i dont like him. im not allowed to leave and im kinda enslaved i guess (my bro called me a prisoner with a job when i told him and it was stupid funny). muffets off on a job after i get settled in there and i dont know what happens to make me so submissive considering the next part of the dream focuses on another servant but whatever they did was REALLY REALLY BAD cause at every point after this im terrified of fucking up and ive pretty much given up on getting out.
this next part was more of a flashback sequance that happened later but for ease of reading im going to add it here instead. first other servant i meet is a beautiful large green shiny beetle man, seriously hes gorgeous and so well spoken and kind. when he was brought into the house he was introduced as just a regular human man, still as beautiful as ever tho, was hired to play piano for a party. as hes fiddling away with the keys though if you looked around you could see bright shiny green and gold strings just, laying flat against the wall, piano, his suit, etc. turns out those were his beetle wings but stretched out and distorted and at this point hes discovered cause to the untrained eye those look like decorations, but its how his kind disguises themselves. cause he can change his entire appearance except for his wings, so they have to try and hide their wings in the environment around them.
they didnt like him lying but it was calm at first. muffet invites him to a small welcoming dinner, just for a chat. they share a platter of food on one plate, partly meat, but most of whats facing him is just a lot of rice packed into a line. he slowly pecks away at that as he carries a polite conversation with muffet, but nvr touches the other side of the food. after hes abt halfway through it she asks “Why aren’t you trying the other food deary?” and he responds “I wasn’t sure if I was allowed to Miss.” and has a bite.
after whatevers in that food kicks in he keels over in pain and she makes it very clear how things go in this house. he listens, he does not act without being told to, and if he ever tries to pull a stunt like that again he’ll be dead. “Am I clear deary?”
since he was there before i was some times passed since that happened. hes currently being punished by mr asshole blond ponytail man and his punishment is all of his meals are very plain. just rice and unseasoned meat. the chef clearly put effort into each platter tho as theyve been shaped into increasingly elaborate shapes the longer the punishment lasts. im not quite sure why this is a punishment? maybe beetle man isnt getting all the nutrients he needs and thats harder for his kind, perhaps he has a taste for good food and this is just the most the ponytail dude can get away with as a punishment since muffets in charge of the house, or maybe its meant to bring up bad memories of when he first came here.
this next parts, really foggy
back to me and muffets talking to someone through a large portal in the room? plans are made abt making humans lose hope and wiping out humanity. the vegan next to me is very excited abt this and comments on it and im just like, bro, that would be super bad for the earth and also immoral? and shes like oh right. at some point i befriend a guy even tho we hated each other at first but he’s moved elsewhere after some time
time skip to muffet informing me that due to my most recent mistake my family is going to be killed. at this point im just sick of it i’ve been here for months im miserable im lonely, i miss my family im just kinda, unstable
really unstable
im shouting at her if shes going to off my family she has to kill me too cause i cant live knowing theyre dead because of me or live without them, just sobbing, kill me, please just kill me i cant stay here anymore she sends me to my room and i pass by my beetle friend but neither of us says anything, also passed by some buff monster but its irrelevant. i dont go to my room instead im just looking through hallway after hallway, opening a storage closet and just trying to find SOMETHING to work with because yeah im miserable, yeah this is probably going to backfire but you do NOT. FUCK. WITH MY FAMILY! so i have to leave. i dont care if this might kill me i have to get out of there with whatever the hell i can find. what i find is two deflated balloons with little plastic bits inside that when u press a button they light up and im like OKAY maybe i, maybe me and beetle man can use this to signal to each other! thats great i can do this i can. i think i may have been crying and laughing here after my exploring Im hiding behind a sofa in a room in the furthest corner of the house cradling my little weird balloon bundle, just trying to find space to think. im safe because u cant see me from the door and the blinds on the window are drawn already. it feels like i havent seen the outside in a while remember how i said i was really unstable? this felt completely real in the dream so maybe it was real due to dream logic, but it feels like desperation in hindsight. i clicked both of the balloon lights on and realized i could use it as a phone! i need to call mom i miss her so much. so i do and she goes honey where are you? and im just crying and saying i love you, i love you so much im okay mom, its okay, and shes like are you at school??? and i just turn into a mess. at this point i look through the sheer curtains on the window and notice my brother driving a really tall truck moving some construction supplies. it sucks that hes here too but im just so happy to see him even if i know i cant talk to him. maybe if they dont find out we’re related he’ll be okay and then i leave the mansion, and i run. nothing here is familiar. im somewhere in the woods. i try to run to the front and see all of the construction workers there making something, but besides all the people somehow the dirt is just, this sheer cliff up up and up in front of the place. so i run to the back and try to get through the barrier around the place. i think i do but its not exactly easy. i fought off a possessed wild boar, but it was the size you think a pig would be, so like a medium sized dog, it just tried to bite me and while it hurt i just hit it til it stayed down long enough for me to bolt after im some distance away, further into the forest on a wide path i meet a human whos instantly on guard to fight me. i spray paint in his eyes and then run on i meet a strange human on the same path and he smirks at me and puts paper in front of his eyes to stop my tactic. i go hey fuck it maybe the fumes will disorient him and spray and his magic stops the paint in mid air and im like dude that is SICK, before he flings it back at me
i dont know how but i beat him too but the next part of the dream im finally somewhere residential, houses along the water, its a warm but not too warm day, light breeze, so all in and beautiful. i feel like im seeing and breathing freely and clearly for the first time in, i dont even know how long. its bright and while i know i have to run im just going to keep running, im free for now.
i use my little balloon contraption and call up my mom again now that im somewhere im positive no one will hear me. i tell her im sorry but i cant go home, that this is likely goodbye, and i cant guarantee ill get out of this alive but it’s okay. i love you so much. and she has to leave too. i stress this. she has to leave, cut all ties, cut all things that could trace you and get out of there.
and then my alarm woke me up
its hard to explain why some sections of this dream were so scary, just the feeling of wrongness, isolation, powerlessness, and just some distant pain that i dont know what it was. it felt like the longer i was there the more my world was ending

“Make me awesome.” >:)
I see where they put Enter’s charisma.
Nate’s parents return from overseas in a scene so gooey, you start to see why this airs on Nick. Steel definitely makes the scene upon meeting his adopted mother and father, trying to be the best son with what he “researched.” Dude’s definitely the Ziggy Grover of the group with a dash of Gem and Gemma by far.
Speaking of expies, Ben and Betty offer to take the Silvas’ luggage to their hotel and... do a good job organizing them. I was actually surprised until they proceeded to loose every single bag on the way in their dinky golf cart. Saddest part is that they’re still much better than most airlines baggage claims.
Too easy?
Nate learns that their parents are leaving and that they want him to join them on a mission in Costa Rica that’d keep them from Coral Harbor for months. I have to admit that I like that Nate’s parents don’t put the pressure on their son, knowing that he’s got work to do at Grid Battleforce. The Rangers support him going overseas, especially the core trio who have a few distant family members
Nate gives the others a run down on what he does in the lab with Devon taking over weapons while Ravi helps with Zord Maintenance. Zoey offers to help Megan in the lab while the Beetle Brothers try out analyzing organic DNA. Steel tries to cheer Nate up by mentioning Zoey chatting with her older brother long distance. I like he’s a high-tech himbo. Heart of gold, dumb of shiny metal ass.
Speaking of high-tech, Robo-Roxy teleports in a mad dash to attack Nate and Steel because... she was bored I guess. Seriously, she just bolts in without a Robotron or a plan to take the DNA Scanner until after she’s outmatched. Why do I get the sense she made a bet with Blaze on who goes out next and lost? :P
Robo-Roxy makes off with the DNA Scanner after narrowly avoiding Devon and Zoey’s finishers. Ravi makes it to the scene far too late after getting stuck under the Wrecker Zord. In the Crystal Dimension, Scrozzle sets up the DNA scanner with the Robot Chamber letting them to create Clawtron from organics. Roxy pops in to combine her Ranger form with the flower DNA Steel’d scanned.
Nate tries to help Zoey create a new scanner when his parents arrive so they can catch their plane on time. The Bumbling Burkes arrive with their newest self-delivering luggage that sadly have a very weak pair of clamps. I think I enjoy the pair a lot more when others are caught up in their antics such as the people nearly getting hit by the luggage on the way to the hotel. Now that’s fun.
Zoey’s short-circuits the DNA Scanner and disrupts the Transport system by proxy just when Robo-Roxy is spotted with Clawtron. This means they can’t morph without their Morphers or even use their weapons. I will say that they could’ve used their Beast powers only to find themselves overtaxed way too soon. Ravi hulking out on Robo-Roxy would be a cool way of foreshadowing.
Nate is about to board the plane with his parents when Commander Shaw calls him up for him. He promises his folks that it won’t be long while calling up Cruise for a ride. Without the Transporters, he gathers the weapons and morphers in a bag to distribute into the field. As in, Cruise stays on the sidelines tossing out weapons as they see fit. I’m getting some Shinkenger vibes ala the Kuroki here.
Ravi and Zoey take Robo-Roxy while Devon takes Clawtron with Nate, going Beast-X Mode. I’m guessing that Cruise is automatically digitized during the power up sequence off-screen since we don’t see him during the attack. Nate gets a good shot in by riding Devon’s Cheetah Charge and slicing up Clawtron.
Steel, all the while, had engaged with Clawdrone with his Jet Zord before Nate jumps in with the Beast Wrecker and Devon with the Red Battle Zord on the King Zord. After Robo-Roxy retreats, the Rangers come clean about how they don’t know squat about how Nate does it and need him at Grid Battleforce. Sadly, this means that he has to say goodbye to his folks for a long while now.
I really have to give props to Abraham Rodriguez in this episode because he really sells Nate as a kid reconciling with his parents and the work that they have to do. I kinda wish that Tyler and James had this sort of episode back in Dino Supercharge. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was an idea for it used here.

Booster Gold would love E.M. Forster’s Maurice and here’s why
This might get a little crazy but bear with me, if not for the actual content then for some of the best quotes you’ll ever read. Since DC doesn’t do shit with Booster Gold or Blue Beetle until it’s time for one of them to be evil or die (or both), that clearly means that I get to steal the characters and make them my own and that’s exactly what I plan on doing. I’ll put this all under a cut because golly gee I went off on this one. Also, like, this went from analysis to a little fic of sorts??? Have no clue what happened honestly.
Ok so even though Booster is from the future I’d imagine that he’d still have to read some old ass books in school, even if “old ass” to them means like,,,now for us. BUT for the sake of this, I’m just gonna mirror Booster’s education and discovery of Forster off of how I discovered Forster with little detail changes.
So in this English class, everyone in the class has to choose an author that they’ve never heard of before and read a few books from them and make a project of any kind that they think represents the author and whatnot right. The teacher maybe hands out a list of authors put in different categories of what they write and since it’s the future I’d think that the list probably has a few more LGBT authors than mine did, but Booster sees it and says he’ll give mister E. M. Forster a try because it’s a goofy name so he reads this book called Maurice. Now Maurice isn’t one of his more popular books, it’s actually kind of hard to find in book stores and I’m pretty sure it got most of its fame because of the story surrounding the book rather than the actual book, but the point still stands.
Booster starts reading Maurice and literally from the first page absolutely falls in love with it. The dedication page says nothing about Forster’s family, nothing about his friends, it only says:
Begun 1913
Finished 1914
Dedicated to a Happier Year
Now Booster isn’t a pro at history (at least this point in history) but he’s pretty sure that the dedication in the book and the LGBT category Forster was in on the teacher’s list probably had something to do with each other and not in the good way. But still, he reads on, already convinced that he’s going to like the book just from seeing that. And he’s right.
Like I said, the future is probably hopefully a lot more open to different genders and sexualities so it’s not like Booster is particularly closed off about the fact that he likes girls and boys, but it still kind of is a complicated thing to come to realizing, and instantly he’s drawn to Maurice as he tries to navigate his feelings once Clive is in his life, showing him all these ancient Greek texts that are about same sex love and Maurice and Clive end up spending a lot of their time together. Booster just keeps waiting for this thing to fall apart because he knows this isn’t how same sex love happened back then, he knows that something has to go wrong. Yet Clive and Maurice continue being happy together and being off in their own little world.
That is, until Clive realizes the dangers of being a practicing homosexual at this point and what it could mean for his future. This is it, this is where the story changes and it’s only going to go downhill from here. Except...it doesn’t. Sure, there is a chunk of the novel where Maurice has to deal with the fact that Clive, his first love, left him after opening his eyes to his own sexuality, but it doesn’t end like that. And once Booster finishes the book, a little teary eyed and unable to let go of the story, he reads the author’s note and falls even more in love with it once he reads Forster saying,
“A happy ending was imperative. I shouldn’t have bothered to write otherwise. I was determined that in fiction anyway two men should fall in love and remain in it for the ever and ever that fiction allows, and in this sense, Maurice and Alec still roam the greenwood.”
So after the project is finished, Booster has other things to focus on and kind of forgets about the book for a little while. He goes through all of the time travel, ends up with the JLI and all that stuff. And then as they’re hanging out, they start talking about school and all the dumb books they had to read for classes and someone asks Booster what kind of cool books they have in the future. He responds with “I wouldn’t know, I was reading old books too” and he remembers his favorite project he did in high school and starts getting really excited to tell them all about it. He keeps the story itself for himself, just tells them all about the cool poster he made that represented the Forster books he read. Eventually the conversation drifts off to something else but Booster’s still stuck on this book that he connected to a few years ago.
He gets a new copy of the book and falls in love with it all over again and starts underlining the passages that he likes and making little comments on the edge of the pages. He comes back to read it every few months when he’s having a particularly hard time or even when he’s having a good time, whenever he just wants to look at it with a fresh perspective. He leaves different notes and likes different quotes every time.
“There has been, is, and always will be every conceivable type of person.” He likes that one when he starts thinking he stands out too much and people won’t like him because of it. Finds comfort in the fact that it was like that back then too.
“He could die for such a friend, he would allow such a friend to die for him; they would make any sacrifice for each other, and count the world nothing, neither death nor distance nor crossness could part them, because ‘this is my friend.’” He liked that one before him and Ted had such a close bond and he didn’t have any true friends in this time yet, not knowing how close him and Ted would get and knowing that the quote would become a little too real in the coming years.
“He lived on, miserable and misunderstood, as before, and increasingly lonely. One cannot write those words too often: Maurice’s loneliness: it increased.” That one jumped out to him after Ted died and he was left on his own for the first time in years without realizing how much his best friend meant to him until it was too late.
There was even one line that he remembered word for word from back before any of this hero business even started, when he was in his own time and didn’t know what he was going to do with his life. Maybe it’s what brought him here without him realizing. “The past is devoid of meaning like the present, and a refuge for cowards.” He was a coward, he couldn’t manage to get anything right and he was terrified of what would happen when he grew up and lost his good looks that everyone kept him around for. So he ran away to the past and now he’s here.
It was when Ted came back that Booster decided that he needed to share the book that meant so much to him with somebody and so who else to share it with than his best friend? So he brought out the book one night while it was kinda slow for the JLI and Ted was hanging out with Booster in his room. The book at this point was pretty beat up, had sticky notes and pencil and pen all over it. Ted was immediately curious, as Ted is all the time, and saw how nervous Booster was and immediately knew that this was something important to him. And they spent the rest of the night talking about Maurice, the quotes that Booster comes back to time after time and what it meant to him as a kid when he read it for the first time. They’d both be lying if they said there weren’t plenty of tears that night.
After that night, Booster read it one more time and this time a new quote jumped out at him. “He had brought out the man in Alec, and now it was Alec’s turn to bring out the hero in him.” He realized that Ted was Alec all along and maybe it was possible to have a happy ending, maybe Forster wasn’t lying when he gave Maurice and Alec that happy ending so long ago.
Years and years later, that quote from the authors note his first readthrough of the book stuck with him, and when Ted and Booster finally got married, the inside of the wedding bands reminded them that no matter what happens, “A happy ending was imperative.”

50 Mother and Son Quotes Praising Their Bond
Our latest collection of mother and son quotes praising their unique relationship. These mother and son quotes will help you celebrate their special bond.
Mothers play a critical role in the life of their sons. There is a deep connection between a mother and son that starts from the time a woman gives birth to her son.
Although fathers also play an important role in the life of their sons, the bond between mother and son is simply special. A mother is the first person who truly understands and knows everything about her son since he has been inside her for nine months.
Mothers play various roles in the life of their sons. A mother is her son’s best friend, his protector and hope, a source of encouragement, and most of all, a mother is an adviser to her son.
While fathers are teachers, mothers are advisers. It is due to these special roles of a mother to her son that the bond between mother and son needs to be celebrated.
Below you will find our collection of inspirational and wise mother and son quotes, mother and son proverbs, and mother and son sayings, collected over the years from a variety of sources.
Mother and Son Quotes Praising Their Bond
1.) ”There has never been, nor will there ever be, anything quite so special as the love between the mother and a son.” – Anonymous
2.) ”A man loves his sweetheart the most, his wife the best, but his mother the longest.” – Irish Proverb
3.) ”Mothers are inscrutable beings to their sons, always.” – A.E. Coppard
4.) ”Sons are the anchors of a mother’s life.” – Sophocles
5.) ”All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” ― Abraham Lincoln
Tumblr media
