As an Ares fan who doesnt really like Hephaestus, even I wasnt liking the depiction of any of the gods. They dont CARE about the myths whatsoever, they just did whatever the hell they want. Aglaia isnt popular so they’ll NEVER use her (i doubt the writers even knew she existed). Theres like a game mechanic (and this exactly exists because I was watching my friend play the game) where Aphrodite offers to have s3x with Kratos and you literally have like quick time events of you having like sex with Aphrodite. IM BEING SRS, I HATE IT.

If your understanding of Hephaestus as a character and his relationship with Aphrodite comes solely from the GOW Games maybe stfu idk

How do you feel about The Song of Achilles? It’s personally one of my favorite books, but I know a LOT of people have opinions on it.

I really tried to like it, I REALLY DID. For months upon months I like gaslighted myself into pretending I loved it because I saw it all over tik tok and I wanted to SO BAD but the character development really threw me off?

I felt like Patroclus had little to no character that wasn't connected to Achilles and I get its called "Song of ACHILLES" but as a romance tragedy book it kind of ruined the romance AND the tragedy. I was bored of Patroclus until the very end and it was when he started to have some agency. I got so mad whenever he forgave Achilles over one act over another. Like when he found out Achilles had kids with Deidameia, he didn't know... what she did to him. He just assumed he got a wife and he did not act at all as angry as he should've been. He felt too fake to me, and now Achilles

ACHILLES BORED ME TO DEATH but was also OBNOXIOUS. I would rather the tantrum-throwing hissy fit Achilles then the perfect holier-than-thou Achilles. Like I understand its from Patroclus' view, but he was so PERFECT. I don't even write APOLLO like that in my fanfics!!! I hate it because he had SMALL little flaws and Patroclus fucking ignored them ALL until the end. And even in the end Patroclus was more upset than angry, I wanted him to be angry because it was only right of him. He done everything Achilles asked and more, and he asks Achilles to do this one thing and he won't ARE YOU SHITTING MY COCKBALLS? Like at least if Achilles was a recognized asshole to Patroclus and Patroclus fought back a bit I'd be fine but NOOOOO.

Also Achilles almost never seemed to show that he loved Patroclus anywhere near as much as Patroclus did to him. Like I guess he said he was handsome? the cutest thing he did was protect Patroclus in the war by killing any soldiers that went near him. ADORABLE. Other then that, there was several times where I was like "If Patroclus isn't obnoxiously beautiful (he seems to be just basic attractive) why DOES Achilles like him so much? What's so special about Patroclus other than his obnoxious loyalty???"

Anyway that's my thoughts, BUT the good thing is Song of Achilles introduced me to Greek Mythology and now I can't let it go :DDD

How do you characterize Patroclus?

THANK YOU MY BEAUTIFUL ZOEY FOR THIS ASK BECAUSE I WANTED IT SO BADLY.

The perfect Patroclus in my opinion is the Patroclus from the Iliad AND the Patroclus from the Song of Achilles. I personally think that Madeline Miller did Patroclus so dirty, when he had so much potential.

Patroclus accidentally killing that kid and becoming traumatized in result... what if because of that he understands the notion of controlling your strength? or not letting your anger grow out of control? I think Patroclus is a naturally, and rightfully, angry character, when I really don't think he is at all in the Iliad or the Song of Achilles. I think he's angry, but for more of a righteous reason.

He doesn't blow up when he's disrespected. However when he sees injustice, THATS when he blows up. He's been treated like shit for his entire childhood, I really like the idea of him having a moral compass but also... not being perfect either. He's clearly biased towards Achilles when it comes to his morality, and his morality can sometimes be cancelled out by loyalty.

I love the contradictions of Patroclus being BOTH. He's gentle like SoA, but he's also strong. An immovable object if you will (well until he's dead). He's brave, but wasn't always that way, it was something he had to grow into. He's Achilles' no.1 supporter and defender, but simultaneously the person that would yell at Achilles the most.

Patroclus is kind of the morality and the heart, something Achilles unfortunately lacks... I like the idea of him going from SoA to closer to The Iliad version of him as he grows up. I don't mind if he was meek and quiet at some point, but i LOVE the idea of him becoming a fighter of sorts and being more confident in himself and his ideals.

My Thoughts on the Trojans (after reading the Iliad)

One thing about me, I’ll always call Hector and Paris a cunt (Paris moreso) no matter what Achilles has done. Because let’s talk about it:

-The trojans quite literally only had Apollo because Ares and Aphrodite kept getting their asses handed to them (it hurts but its true). AND to top it all off they lost Ares. If I was any trojan and found out Ares, GOD OF WAR, left me I’m giving up immediately ☠️

-HECTOR aint even kill Patroclus in a fair 1v1! Patroclus called him a pussy and said his boyfriend is going to kill him and I GIGGLED because yeah 😭

-Paris is a cowardly idiot either way. Whether people want to believe Helen loved him or not, hes STILL a coward idc.

-Idk how people can think the Trojans were the ones in the right. You STOLE their queen (because im pretty sure she loved Menelaus), then LOOTED Menelaus afterward, then dipped after a treaty? Wtf was Menelaus supposed to do? You think he would be respected as a King if he let that shit slide?

-If I was Hector id kick Paris out of Troy and make him give that woman back so quick the ship wont be able to sail. Idgaf if hes my brother I dont even know him like that 💀 they have Achilles and you won’t me to risk my balls so you can get ballsdeep in a woman who DONT WANT YOU? What is this? I have a WIFE and KIDS and OTHER siblings? Fuck that.

Can we talk about the fact that I had literally no creative writing inspiration AT ALL, and after the eclipse and seeing HYACINTHS, I ran to my computer and wrote an entire chapter with little to no problems?

You should write an actual greek mythology book!” I say hell no because I dont want to end up with a book like Percy Jackson 😭 so when a huge amount of people tell me something I just believe it.
