Anxiety, Depression and Mental Health
Covid-19 has made mental health more invisible than in pre-pandemic days. It’s sad that mental health doesn't show up in the physical sense. For example, a blood test can’t diagnose depression, anxiety, depression or other mental health issues.
Mental health is invisible
The fact that it is invisible for many, underlies the discrimination of what people with mental health issues have to deal with. Society tends to deal with what it can see, although not everyone deals with what they see. With an ‘I’ll be alright attitude’ mental health and health may take a back seat, until it’s too late. Men tend to take that tack more than women.
Society tends to have an opinion also, but for those with anxiety and depression, the temporary paralysis is a real issue. When a problem is unseen, it is easier for others to ignore the 'undercurrents.'
It's important not to judge
But unless you walk a mile in another person’s shoes and you see and feel what they feel, people often ignore that something like anxiety and depression can incapacitate someone from going about their day, or getting out of the house, as if they were feeling physically paralysed.
The help for someone with anxiety and depression to enable them to leave the house, is different from someone with a physical disability, but it’s not any less real. Covid-19 has changed people's perceptions on mental health. In the early days, for two minutes, mental health was talked about through the media. I continue to talk about it on my blog.
Happy Birthday Sheila... it's our birthday today and my first without her.

Photo by @the_positiveway8 All of your feelings are valid and it's important to feel them all, even the hard ones. This is something it has taken me so long to learn. I spent so many years bottling up my feelings. Believe me, once you've tried to cram them down for long enough they will explode out at some point anyway. Even if you hate to cry, for example, you still have to let it out sometimes if you're really sad. But it's also really important to learn how to feel your feelings and let them out in healthy ways, not by turning to substances or lashing out at someone. For me personally it really helps to talk things through with my therapist and have her help me identify my emotions. And honestly I have learned so many ways to let my feelings out by searching on Pinterest. Let me know if you want me to make a follow-up post sometime of different ways you can let feelings out. Writing about life
“In order to write about life first you must live it.”– Ernest Hemingway
Wise words from a wise author. Someone that just got ‘life.’ I’ve had to get life, it’s not something that has come easy, it’s something that I’ve had to painfully work through.
By the nature of breathing, we’re living. But until you have worked out and understand life in the whole, you can’t really know about life. When we understand, we can change certain aspects of our life, enough to live a different kind of life.
I’ve had to weather many storms. I write about my traumatic life. It is important to put the right slant on your life, not the way you would like to see it, but the way in which it happened. What I write is painful, but it has been necessary.
My writing has been an open door. We live our lives without thinking what our lives mean. We get up, we get washed, we work and earn money, we socialise, but we don’t stop to think about what that all means in the whole. We don’t always get the best out of life and that is two-fold.
It starts with parenting and in a world that is governed by politicians making rules, they need to make the right rules. And while the government continue to deny the virus still exists, I continue to struggle through decisions that are keeping me stuck at ‘home’ in the pandemic.
From an early life I was always looking at the whole, while I was looking inwards at my own life. I’ve never thought differently. A deep thinker from an early age I was always in reflection.
It’s been a difficult life, one that I know I have bravely born, but it doesn’t feel that way. I have struggled at life.  As I continue to write, I continue to reconcile. I’m not sure I ever will, but I shall continue to write, so that through hope I am able to live the best that I can.
