both. NSFW | godric of gaul, eric northman
A spin-off piece from Between Blood and Barren Homes where you, Eric, and Godric explore your new, developing relationship.
Pairing: Godric/Eric Northman x OFC/You
Rating: 18+
-;
There are so many ways this could have started.
With a kiss?
With a push?
Maybe with anger, yes. Definitely with anger. But it was the sort of anger frustration was made out of, the sort desperation reeks of. You know?
Maybe Eric started it first. Oh, Eric started it first
One day when you’re in your room, and you’d come back from swimming, or you’d gotten out of the shower and the entire room reeked of you– your body wash, your hair oils and shampoo, your body lotion. God, Eric steps one foot into the hallway outside of your bedroom door and he can smell how sweet you are. He can hear you on your bed, taking care of your hair, he’s so attuned to you in that moment that he can hear the very strands of it moving
And he comes to you, because God, how could he not?
It hadn’t been like this at first.
He had hated you at first, as he did all things. But now…
He had told himself over the past weeks that you were just a means to an end, whatever it took to keep his Maker alive, whatever it took to see that Godric didn’t meet the sun– he paid your price, he kept you safe, he did it all
And in doing so, he fell in love with the woman that you are
And oh, the woman that you are
So he comes into your room under false pretences, and he tells you it’s dangerous tonight, because there had been a meeting held, and foreign vampires were in the area. And he looks at you as he says this, in his black tank top, and his cheeks are flushed and you can tell, you can tell, that he’d just fed. Because there was that look in his eye that he always got, a man satisfied, a man sated, a man ready to suck the blood out of the world– and he was staring at you
“What?” The woman asked. Her legs crossed, a bathroom wrapped tightly around her body. She had become accustomed to this, being so vulnerable around the place now. In a home full of vampires it wasn’t hard to be reminded that you were at the mercy of their wills.
“What?” Eric’s voice taut, snapping, despite the kindness he had been predicting all these weeks. He was on the verge of something he couldn’t name. A foreign wind blowing him off an unknown cliff. Towards you, towards you, towards you
“Despite me giving most of my attention to your Maker, as per your request, Eric, I can still tell when things are off with other vampires too. You know?”
His feet bring him forward towards you, as though your words are a lasso around his neck. Step, step, step– and there he was standing before you. Your neck craned up, up, up– fuck, how tall was this man?
“What do you see?”
There were those words again,
Often, often, often would you have heard it from Godric’s mouth
“Tell me what you see.”
It meant: tell me there is more to me than the monster I had made
It meant: tell me that you do see more man in me than that
It meant: Tell me you know that I will not hurt you
“What do you want me to see?” The woman asked. She was careful. She knew the dance. Unlike with Godric, one could not so easily tell Eric Northman he too wore his emotions in his eyes. That same glint, that same wound.
Eric remained quiet as he stared at you. His eyes fixed on the small bump of skin on your neck. You were right there, your throat was right there, but he couldn’t.
He swallowed hard and he stepped back.
“You’re taking care of Godric.”
But it meant: I see the way my Maker looks at you
It meant: I see the way you look at him
Because despite the man he was, oh, the man he was, Eric Northman would not feed or kiss or fuck the woman his Maker held so closely to him
But why…
Why was she staring up at him like that?
Why was she standing up?
Please, please don’t stand up
Fuck, she was walking towards him.
And why did her hand have to feel so soft? And why did the ghost of a heart thrum in his chest where she touched it? Fuck, fuck, fuck–
“You look like you could use some care too, in your long life.”
And what could he do?
What else, truly, could he have done but kiss you in that moment?
Gentle intention and hard lips. Your legs were wrapped around him before either of you knew it. And then changed, turned, Eric found himself on the bed in the next moment and you on his lap, facing away from him
He took pleasure in the way he had to crane your neck, exposing it for all its glorious divinity, his entire palm stretched over it as his hand held your chin and his mouth devoured yours
Saliva mixing, gooey tongue over tongue, he traced your teeth and everything else you would give him
There was a heat building up in the room as your body struggled against his, struggled for more, struggled for deeper, harder– fuck, Eric, your voice called out
“Do something before I lose my mind.” The whimper in your voice unravelled him. The sound of the hinges to your bedroom creaking, unravelled him even more.
He stopped kissing you, a string of saliva pulling between the two of you, as your heads turned to see Godric standing in the doorway. How had he been so lost in you that he couldn’t hear another vampire approaching?
How had he been so lost in you that he couldn’t feel Godric approaching? But there he stood, in all his glory, white linen pants and a grey sweater that dipped so, so deliciously down his chest. Collarbones peaked and tattoos displayed lifetimes of story and chaos. Godric stood as he stared, unmoved, unblinking. And the woman’s breath was bated, but there was a heat in her body and between her legs that wouldn’t stay sated for long. And Eric, oh, sweet Eric, Sweet boy, Eric.
He held in a breath, then exhaled three times before he plucked up the courage.
There was nothing left to do but this.
He had gone too far, he had been too brave. Now, he was going to have to be more bold. More daring. Makers had killed their offspring for far, far less. But here he was now and this was the chance he was going to take.
For a moment he could feel Godric’s wrath, Godric’s pain. For a moment all those months of doubt and discourse within his Maker on whether or not he should or could do anything to you came to a front.
Eric could sense it all now, Godric hid nothing from him
And a bright red monster reared its head, jealousy the colour of blood now
And he wondered for a moment if this was his end
And he wondered for a moment if Godric would spurn those centuries of love and faith between them
And Eric moved his hand on your jaw, and he turned her wide, open, wet mouth to Godric, and he ripped open her blouse with his other hand
A gasp left the woman, of course it did, as Godric stepped closer. The door closed behind him, and he stepped closer, closer, closer
Moments passed as he stared at her, and the cold air made her nipples hard, and the feel of Eric pressing into her back, and the look of Godric’s gaze pressing into her front– it was too much for a woman, she was just a woman, and fuck, she needed someone to do something–
Her back arched as Eric’s hand trailed ever so slightly, cautiously, waiting for Godric to accept the invitation
And he did.
Mouth dipped, fangs bared, Godric stared at the woman as though centuries of restraint were put to shame
He wanted to touch you
But first, he had to ask
Silence rang in the room.
But he couldn’t ask.
The woman’s wide eyes looked up to him, pleading
“Godric, please.”
Please.
Of course he would. Anything. Anything you could do or say or want from him, if you said that word, the entire world was yours. But you weren’t asking for the world. You were asking for a kiss.
“What is it you want?” Godric’s confidence grew. The trepidation in him sizzled out, and where he had initially mistaken your lust for concern, he leaned closer to recognise yours eyes’ true intent. “It seems you have your fill of man in my progeny.”
Your head shook, vehemently. Because for all that had happened between you and Eric, if Godric in this moment didn’t kiss you, you knew you’d go insane. Your hands lifted up and reached around that stupid, simple fucking sweater and you pulled him so hard he crashed into you. And his fangs slices at your lips, and your tongue, and your blood floated into his mouth and you didn’t care.
Because Eric was kissing your neck now
And Godric’s tongue was sliding over yours
And Eric’s hands rested where your gown once was and fuck, it was cold, and fuck, it was hot at the same time
Hands slid over your body as it danced with the sound of ripping fabric. You were naked before you knew it, Eric’s fingers inside of you before you knew it, your hips grinding into them as Godric held you still in his progeny’s lap, before you knew it.
He didn’t break the kiss, not even as Eric moved you further up the bed and Godric followed, lapping at the bloodstream from your mouth where his fangs had cut
“I want to taste her.” Eric’s request was simple, and you damn near died when Godric pulled himself away. And the woman’s eyes followed his, as it looked away from him to his progeny behind her head, and she could do nothing but grind and whimper as Eric stuck his tongue into his Maker’s mouth, stealing the blood Godric had taken from you.
They kissed until the blood was depleted, and then Eric turned your head for more. And Godric bent his face lower, lower than you had expected him to go, to place his mouth over the other set of lips that craved their attention. A gasp left you as his tongue slithered along your folds, cold hands holding them apart, and Eric swallowed those gasps whole. His hands never ceased their attack on your breasts, or your nipples, and the sensation of having two mouths on you, of having Godric and Eric surround you, of having the sheer power and the knowledge that if they wanted to, they could snap you in half with less than a thought.
The woman’s hand gripped into the hair of the smaller man, Godric groaned, the feel of having his hair pulled an unfamiliar and all but welcoming sensation. It had been so long since a woman had tempted him this much, and so long even still since he had felt so connected to Eric through the bond. The thing that linked them together as maker and progeny thrumming with life and blood and lust. And the woman’s body hummed with it, too, as Eric bit his tongue and gave her his blood as well. It was more than what she could handle, more than anything she could handle, and she found her body shaking and her legs wrapping around Godric’s head as she came down from her first orgasm. The first of many, that night.
But Godric was quick. Quicker than she had time to recover, he flipped her over onto his son’s chest and pressed his own into her back. His hand moved her head, turning her neck as his lips sought out hers. He wouldn’t let her go that night without a thousand kisses to her lips. But her head moved, her hand lifted up to grasp his hair again and she dragged it away from her mouth and placed it, to his shock, against her neck.
She felt his dick throb against her ass, and her eyes looked up to Eric as she looked up at him, a silent plea. A distressed beg. She wanted them–
“You want us both to…?”
Godric’s words died on his lips as her gasp overtook the sound of the room. Eric’s teeth plunged into her, not needing further invitation, and Godric’s eyes blared angry and violent and lust-filled before she pushed his head down as well and his teeth sunk into her, too. Her second orgasm overtook her then, and her body shook as the two of them drank from her in tandem.
“Please,” her words were barely a whisper when they finished. “Please. I need it.”
“Who, sweetheart?” Eric asked. His nose rubbing against hers, his tongue still licking his lips. “Whose cock do you want first?”
“Both,” her words were breathless as her head slumped. The desperation was making her tired, and she needed them to relieve her of the pain between her legs.
“Both?” Eric was amused. His eyebrows shot up at the gall of the human woman between them. He was about to interject on behalf of his maker, knowing that the smaller man wouldn’t want to put the woman through that much for her first time with them.
But Godric had been unravelling since he smelled her and his progeny together in the hallway
If he was being honest with himself he was unravelling since the first night he had met her
And fuck, she asked so nicely
How could he deny her anything?
And fuck, she felt so good and soft, and alive between the two of them
Godric’s voice beat out into the open air before Eric’s could.
“Hold onto his shoulders.”

The Party No One Remembers
Tumblr media
When Eric thinks of Godric, as he was before he died, in recent history, there's one night in particular that comes to mind. Only he, Pam and Bill still remember the event clearly, because all of the humans in attendance had had their memories wiped. All, that is, except for you and Sookie- but both of you had gotten so blackout drunk that glamouring wouldn't have been necessary, even if it had been possible for someone to do it to Sookie, and even if Eric had been able to bring himself to do it to you.
Flashback to the night in question...
It was late, only a few hours before dawn, around the time when the party had slowed down and most of the hangers-on had gone home. All of the decent ones, anyway.
"Let's play spin the bottle!"
One of the nameless humans suggested it, and had set the game in motion before anyone had even agreed.
The first spin stopped on Pam and Sookie.
Bill, who didn't know the aim of the game, hadn't been paying attention, and was caught off guard when Pam appeared beside his then-girlfriend, tilted up her chin with a manicured fingernail and laid a surprisingly chaste kiss on her mouth, finishing up with a suggestive tug on her lower lip.
The game had nearly ended right then and there when Bill had tried to throw Pam across the room- but Godric had intervened, ever the voice of reason, (albeit one interrupted every few seconds by Sookie's drunken giggles).
Eventually, Bill had simmered down, but he kept a protective hand on Sookie's shoulder for the rest of the night, and the bottle didn't settle on the pair again after that, always mysteriously wobbling in the opposite direction just when it seemed about to stop.
The second spin stopped on Eric and Jason.
Jason, who had been eyeing up the girl with the short skirt next to him, had jumped about a foot in the air when Eric's cold hand had closed around his bicep, eyes flying wide as the blond vampire ensnared his lips in a brief, but passionate, kiss.
The third spin stopped on Isabel and Jessica.
Ignoring Bill's disapproving look, the redhead practically leapt onto Isabel's lap, wrapping her thighs around the older vampire's hips and locking eyes with her expectantly. To everyone's surprise, Isabel indulged her in a minute-long make-out session before kicking her off.
The fourth spin landed on you and Godric, who had only sat down in the circle after resolving the commotion with Bill and Pam. Clearly, his intention had not been to play along- but then, what was a kiss to a vampire of his age?
Nothing, of course.
Or so he had thought, right up until he had cupped your cheek and was leaning in to kiss you- and he had sensed Eric's displeasure.
********************************************
Godric cocked his head, so that his progeny, who was seated beside you in the circle, entered his field of vision. His jaw was set in a hard line, and his blue eyes were full of an emotion that Godric would not have needed their connection to name.
Jealousy.
Yes, but underneath it lurked something more. He probed the feelings Eric was emanating through their bond, and was surprised to discover a twinge of guilt. Less surprising was the hunger, mingled with possessiveness and desire- but there was a stronger emotion threading all of it together, an undercurrent of--
"Godric, are you going to kiss me or not?" you huffed, tugging at the cold hand that was still cupping your face.
That was a good question.
Godric hummed, stroking your cheek and brushing his nose with yours, until your eyes fluttered closed again.
Eric hadn't kissed you yet. That much was obvious. You clearly weren't his, either- if you had tasted Eric's blood, Godric would have known. But why was that? Why was he pining for you? It was most unlike Eric not to act.
Of course, he had only just reconnected with his progeny, so he did not know of the circumstances surrounding the two of you, but all the same, it was hard for him to imagine what might be keeping you apart.
Perhaps he just needed an incentive?
A ghost of a smile graced Godric's lips before he closed the distance between you at last, claiming your mouth in a sensual kiss.
And as he did, several things happened at once.
The humans got bored of waiting for the kiss to happen and started spinning the bottle again.
At the same time, a few of the vampires got up and left the circle- Bill among them, leading a very wobbly Sookie away with him.
And then, just as your hand reached out and grasped Godric's shirt, Eric's fangs dropped.
Only Godric and Pam noticed this, but the former feined ignorance, taking his time with your lips before pulling back and placing a ticklish kiss on either side of your mouth.
You laughed, eyes fluttering open, and for a fleeting moment Godric saw you as Eric sees you.
Beautiful.
Exciting.
Fascinating.
His.
But the moment passed as quickly as it had come, and, drunk as you were, you remained oblivious to it, excusing yourself before skipping off to the bathroom to freshen up. Godric chose that moment to wander outside, and Eric followed him, hastily retracting his fangs.
"Is there something you want to say to me, Eric?" Godric asked, in their mother tongue, glancing at his progeny.
Eric remained silent, avoiding his maker's gaze. Godric could tell that he was at once trying to find the words, and unsure whether or not he should speak them.
"We have shared food before, but this was different, yes?" he prompted. "You do not want to share her with anyone, not even me."
Eric shook his head emphatically. "I would do anything for you."
"Ah, Eric..." Godric sighed and turned his face up to the moon. "I have lived for what feels like an eternity. I have seen and done what feels like everything, and have met and tasted, killed and savoured what feels like every human there could be, such that few things have meaning to me anymore. Very few, indeed.
"But for those few things in which I can still find meaning, I would do anything. I would not give them up, or let them from my grasp, even if my own maker ordered me to."
Eric still recalls the thrill of fear he had felt at these words.
This wasn't the Godric he knew. Something within his maker had changed- that had been clear from the moment he had rescued him from that accursed church's basement. There was so much he wanted to say. He felt like he had to say something, anything, to snap Godric out of it and bring back the man- the vampire- he knew, before it was too late. He couldn't help but feel like he was running out of time.
Yet the silence stretched on and on between them, until finally, desperately, he blurted, "You are important to me."
Godric smiled knowingly and held his gaze. "As you are to me. That is why I am giving you this advice."
"I don't need--" Eric protested.
"You love her. Have you told her this?"
Eric clenched his jaw and shook his head. "It's... complicated."
"Well, long as our lives may be, they are still finite. True death awaits us all- we are not so different from humans in that regard. If I were you, I would not waste too much time. Think about what this life means to you, my son."
And with that, Godric had gone.
********************************************
There was one other memory that stood out to him from that night, though this one didn't really involve Godric at all.
Flashback to the night in question...
"Hey! Eric!"
It was after Godric had left him alone outside. You caught up to him on the stairs leading up to your rooms for the night, and wasted no time in (as Eric thought of it) pushing his buttons.
"Did you enjoy your kiss with Jason?" you teased, poking him in the ribs.
"No," he said, shortly. "Did you enjoy your kiss with Godric?" The question came out a little more sharply than he had intended, but thankfully you didn't seem to notice.
You nodded frantically, then quickly shook your head, frowning.
The corner of Eric's mouth twitched. "Well? Which is it?"
"He took way long- too long," you said, stumbling over your words and, at the same time, careening into Eric's side, nearly pushing him over the edge of the bannister and falling down the stairs yourself. He caught you with some difficulty, one hand gripping the bannister hard enough to warp the metal, the other grabbing your arm much more gently and tugging you into an awkward half-hug.
Your hands, meanwhile, were less well-behaved. Somehow your floundering fingers had come to rest on the front of his trousers and under his button-up shirt.
"Mmph. This is dangerous," you muttered, squeezing the denim- or, rather, the hardening length you could feel through it.
The situation was absurd enough to be comical, but Eric couldn't laugh.
You were right- it was dangerous. He was overstimulated, and vulnerable- what with your hands squeezing his cock and scratching at his bare skin, your delicious pulse thrumming right under his nose, the turmoil of his feelings for both you and Godric swirling in his breast, the sight of you kissing his maker still fresh in his mind's eye...
For the second time that night, his fangs dropped.
In the blink of an eye you were both inside his room, with the door locked and you pressed flat against it. One of his hands had your arms pinned above your head, while the other tangled in your hair, pulling your neck just so, making the vein there stand out against your skin. His teeth grazed it...
"Eric?"
Not like this.
He released you, and a split-second later he was sitting on the edge of the bed on the far side of the room.
You stumbled over to him, confused. Eric very much doubted you had even been able to process what had just happened, and felt a further stab of guilt as you asked, "What's wrong?"
But he just shook his head.
"We'll talk about it in the morning."
If you remember any of this.
"Eric?"
"Yes?"
"I don't feel so good..."
And with that, you face-planted onto the bed beside him, groaning in pain. He saw you safely into bed in your own room, and spent a restless day in the too-big bed in his separate, temporary, light-proof suite- alone.
********************************************
Of course, you hadn't remembered anything about the party when you had awoken late the following afternoon with a terrible hangover.
So that conversation had never happened, and since that night, nothing else has happened between the two of you, either.
But the more Eric reflects on these memories, the more he thinks: Maybe it's time he took Godric's advice.

“Hello?” You said as you opened the door slightly. You frowned when you saw a strange man on the doorstep. Ordinarily, you would have looked through the side window of the door, one that was tucked around a corner that allowed you to peek at whoever was at the door.
“I just wanted to update you on the fact that there’s a vampire on the loose in the area.” The man said. Though you opened the door just a crack you noticed that he tried to see over your shoulder into the house.
“Ok. Thank you.” You tried to shut the door and he slammed his hand on the door.
“Maybe I should come in and check there’s nothing in here for you.” he said. The look he gave you made your skin tingle unpleasantly.
“No thanks.” You said and used your whole weight to push against the door and close it. You hurried to slide the lock on the door and went to check the downstairs windows before you could get to the kitchen to check the side door. It burst open and the man ran at you.
Suddenly he was caught by the throat and lifted in the air.
"Did you leave your doors open?" Godric said as he held the man with one hand. The man dropped his weapon, a metal one that would be of no use against a vampire. “I would finish locking up.” You nodded and hurried to lock the windows and back door. You moved a chest of drawers in front of the door between your garage door that led into the kitchen just to be sure. When you came back to the living room you found that Godric and the man were gone so you hurried upstairs to close and lock the windows. It would get stifling hot but you’d rather heat than get attacked. As you closed the windows you saw a truck. Two more people were inside. At least they were for a few moments. Godric whizzed around the car in a blur and sent them on their way.
“I hope I didn’t alarm you.” He said as he came up to the window you’d been watching out of.
“Only surprised by your speed.” You admitted. He smiled as you let him in.
“I don’t think they’ll be back. They’re probably who were giving you the feeling of being watched. You live quite far away from town. I could stay though if you’d like.” Godric smiled as you nodded.
“Yes, please. I know I'm not supposed to but I feel safer with a vampire around.” You admitted. Godric chuckled as if he found what you said genuinely amused him.

Hii! Could I request an Ominis x Fem Ravenclaw reader. Something like the Reader is really interested in the giant squid in the lake, so Ominis tries to sneak her into the Slytherin common room (with the help of sebastian maybe?) So she can get a better look at it
"J'adore les calamars géants<3" "Je t'aime."
Have a Look (O.G)
I always loved the idea of the Giant Squid in the lake, and apparently it was supposed to show up in POA, but they scrapped that script :( Anyway, I like having the reader/Sebastian describe things to Ominis, because I do the same thing to my two blind cats, even though they don't really care, but they're very good at getting around. I hope you enjoy!<3 (there's a meme hidden in here, I laughed a bit after I wrote it and just kept it there)
Tumblr media
Students chattered around you as you walked with Sebastian and Ominis through the halls, classes over for the day. You held a book you had borrowed from the library about the history of the castle, flipping through the pages as you walked. Ominis stuck close to you, leading you through the halls as you kept your eyes glued to the pages, muttering. “You have plenty of time to look at your book, you know. Perhaps it could wait until we’re no longer walking?” You shook your head, the sound of the pages turning the only response to Ominis’ question. He sighed, instead making conversation with Sebastian. Sebastian chuckled, glancing over at you. “Ravenclaw’s do what they do best, you know.” Ominis sighed, grabbing your sleeve as he pulled you over and closer to him, seconds before you collided with another student.
“Found it!” You said to yourself, tapping your finger to the page you had flipped to. By now, the three of you had made it outside near the lake, one of the spots you hung around after classes. Sebastian plopped onto the soft grass, sighing as he watched you walk to the dock. Ominis followed you, your footsteps tapping on the wood as you walked to its edge. “I suppose you found another entry about the Giant Squid?” Ominis asked, finding a post, and using it to help him sit down, listening as you let out a hum and sat down next to him. “Indeed. Listen to this!” You said excitedly, reading from one of the entries. “Say’s here that it’s suspected that the Giant Squid is actually Godric Gryffindor!” Ominis let out a scoff, shaking his head. “There’s no way, how old would that make him?” You tapped your chin as you tried to do the math, furrowing your brows. “It was the Tenth Century, so at least a thousand years?” Ominis shook his head as he smiled. “You think a thousand-year-old wizard would want to be a giant squid? What would he even do?” You shrugged, flipping through the pages again.
“Oh, never mind.” You sighed, closing the book, and placing it beside you. Ominis turned his head, confused. “What’s the matter?” You bit the inside of your cheek as you hung a foot over the water, swinging it slightly. “It said it was unlikely, given that he, you know, died.” Ominis chuckled as he leaned back, the warm rays of the sun tickling his face. “Perhaps the squid was his pet? That would be rather interesting.” You shook your head, looking over the water as small fish swam by, small ripples forming as their fins skimmed the top. “All the books ever say is that its big, they don’t even agree about what colour it is.” You brought your foot back up, crossing your legs and you rested your arms on your knees.
Ominis sat beside you in silence, thinking. Sebastian had mentioned that there was a spot in the Slytherin common room where you could see the squid as it swam by, but since Ominis wasn’t able to confirm it, he had no idea if Sebastian was joking with him or not. There was also the problem with getting you in; you weren’t a Slytherin. You watched as Ominis’ face changed as he thought to himself, admiring the way he looked in the sun. Sebastian walked up to join you at the edge of the dock, a collection of flat pebbles in his hand that he had collected. “I bet I can skip the farthest.” He said, smirking down at you. You smirked as you got up, grabbing Ominis’ hand and bringing him up with you. “If you think you can beat me, why don’t you place a bet on it?” You teased, grabbing some of the rocks from Sebastian’s hand. He thought for a moment, trying to figure out if it was worth the loss of a Sovereign. “Perhaps. How about, instead of coins, you do some of my assignments for me when I win, Miss Knowledgeable?”  You scoffed in response, nodding as you tossed a stone, skipping it five beats away. “If you win, Sallow. And that’s a big if.” Ominis smiled as he listened to the two of you as you skipped the stones, Sebastian’s voice whining each time yours skipped farther. “Oh, I didn’t say what I wanted when I won!” You paused, thinking. “How about, you have to buy me some sweets next time we go to Hogsmeade?” Sebastian sighed as he nodded, skipping another stone.
The three of you walked back to the castle, Sebastian’s face sour after you had bested him at skipping stones as you hummed to yourself beside him. Ominis walked between the two of you, still pondering to himself on how to let you see the squid you had become so fascinated with. You began to turn off to the hall that led to the Ravenclaw common room, waving to Sebastian. “I’m off, I’ll see you two tomorrow!” Sebastian waved to you, turning to head to his own common room. Ominis stood, quickly blurting out. “Meet us here around midnight, there’s something you must see.” You looked at him, puzzled. “Midnight? But that’s after hours. Where would we even go?” Ominis shook his head, “You’ll see.” With that, he turned back and walked with Sebastian, who looked at Ominis in confusion.
“What are you planning?” Sebastian asked, walking into the common room. Ominis walked toward the part of the room that showed the lake, beckoning Sebastian to follow. “You said you could see the giant squid in here, right?” Sebastian looked through the glass as he nodded. “Right, it swims by a lot at night. Why do you ask?” Ominis pointed to the glass, the cool surface smooth against his finger. “She wants to see it, so why not show her?” Ominis said, already set on his plan. Sebastian could only shake his head, “There’s no way she’d get in. Even with the password, someone will spot her.” Ominis smiled as he pointed his finger into Sebastian’s chest. “Only if she looked like a Ravenclaw. Most will be sleeping, anyway. We can give her an extra set of robes to change into so we can sneak her in, pretty simple.” Sebastian smiled, feeling that his devious actions had rubbed off on his friend after all these years. “Since when did you get so daring, Ominis?” He shrugged, turning to head back to the couch. “She loves the thing, why not let her see it when we basically have it in a giant tank?” Sebastian nodded, following Ominis as they busied themselves until the time ticked to midnight.
You waited anxiously outside the staircase, shivering slightly as a draft passed by. You wracked your brain for an explanation for why you were to meet the boys so late. You sighed as you shifted your footing, looking around for any sign of Ominis. A small light appeared at the end of the hall, and you watched as two shadows made their way over to you. You quickly ducked behind a pillar and held your breath, not wanting a professor to catch you sneaking around after hours all by yourself. “Y/n?” Ominis whispered, appearing beside you. You jumped; eyes wide as you turned your head to be face to face with the boy. Ominis felt the air shift as you jumped and the small puff of air that left your mouth as you gasped, taking a moment before realizing that he was too close. “Sorry, I didn’t know where you were.” He apologized, taking a few steps back. You settled your breathing, placing a hand to his shoulder to steady yourself. “It’s fine, just scared me a bit is all.” Sebastian popped up beside Ominis, a sly smile on his lips as he held a bundle of robes, causing you to jump slightly again. Ominis smiled as he felt your grip tighten on his shoulder, opting to take hold of your hand and leading you away from the stairs.
“What’s that you’ve got there, Sebastian?” You asked, eyeing the bundle in his arms. Sebastian smiled as he pushed the robe into your free hand, “You’ve been sorted into Slytherin tonight, time to get dressed.” You frowned, looking between the two boys. “Why?” Ominis shook his head as he let go of your hand, tugging at robe you were currently wearing. “No time, just hurry and change.” Sebastian watched, amused, as your face flushed, quickly taking of the blue and black robe; with the help of Ominis. You quickly slipped into the new robe, the green becoming a stark contrast to what you usually wore. “Now what?” You asked, watching as Sebastian took your original robe and hid it behind the pillar, pointing to it so you knew where it was. Ominis grabbed your hand once again, leading you down the hall they had come from.
“Now, you need to remember this word, ok? It’s important.” Sebastian stated, and you nodded, confused. “The door needs a password, or else you can’t get in. At the moment, it’s Blighters, so don’t forget it.” You nodded, repeating the password to yourself. “Blighters, got it. But why do I need a password?” You asked, furrowing your brows. Ominis chuckled as he walked listening to Sebastian sigh. “Aren’t you supposed to be in Ravenclaw? Smart?” You nodded, frowning. “We’re sneaking you into the Slytherin common room, obviously.” You sighed, shaking your head. “I was sort of hoping you weren’t going to say that. We could get into serious trouble, you know.” You stated, looking around as you walked. Sebastian scoffed, “Obviously. Look, it wasn’t even my idea this time. You can thank Smitten over there for that.” You looked at Ominis, who turned his head and nodded, a slight pink dusting his cheeks. You playfully slapped Sebastian’s arm, ignoring the nickname he had given Ominis. “You’ve corrupted our boy!”
You walked up to the entrance of the Slytherin common room, eyes wide as you looked at the details around it. Sebastian and Ominis stood beside you, watching in amusement. “I just say the password then?” You asked, turning to Ominis, who nodded. You took a breath, watching the snakes that had settled around the door frame. “Blighters.” The two snakes began to move, and you watched in amazement as they seemed to just slither along the wall, revealing the door to the Slytherin common room. You smiled as you peaked inside, unsure if you were able to walk in. Sebastian walked in first, turning and gesturing for you to follow. You looked over to Ominis, who in turn grabbed your hand and led you in.
You spun around, taking in the details that surrounded you. Although it felt like a cellar, it felt cozy at the same time, the warm light from a nearby fireplace casted soft shadows on your face. “This place looks amazing! And you get to live here?” You breathed, walking over to paintings and artworks on the wall. Ominis smiled as he nodded while Sebastian began to walk to a couch. “Yep, coziest place in the castle, if you ask me.” He said as he plopped himself on the cushions. Ominis walked over to you, grabbing your sleeve and leading you to another part of the room. “Have a look at this.” He said, bringing you up to the window of water. You gasped, watching as fish swam by, the lake just on the other side of the thick glass. Ominis sat down in one of the many seats beside the glass, often used to observe the life of the lake. You followed and sat beside him, still watching the water as the life inside buzzed about. “This is amazing!” You breathed, a large smile growing on your lips. Ominis smiled in return, listening to the soft gasps of amazement you let out each time a fish swam close to the glass. You turned to him; eyes wide as you thought about earlier.
“Can you see the squid from in here?” You asked, almost in a whisper. Ominis nodded and smiled as he gestured to the glass. “I remembered Sebastian mentioning it, so I wanted to sneak you in so you could see it. It usually passes around this time, actually.” You smiled as you wrapped your arms around Ominis’ neck, a string of thanks leaving your lips as you held him tightly. Ominis was caught off guard, but quickly wrapped his arms around you in response, smiling as he pressed his face into the crook of your neck. Sebastian smiled as he watched, glancing over to the lake as a tentacle rose up. “There it is, y/n! Look!” He shouted, pointing at the glass. You released Ominis and quickly made your way to the glass window, watching in awe as the squid slowly rose in the water.
“Ominis, come here!” You shouted, grabbing for his hand as you brought him over. Ominis looked at you confused, unable to see what you were seeing. “It’s giant! Bound to be at least two meters! And the books were all right, it’s just different colours!” You described the squid to Ominis, who began to form a picture of it in his head as you continued. “It’s a mix of colours, it’s kind of red, maybe pink? But it has spots where it’s white, and its arms are different colours too!” The squid continued to swim around, its long arms propelling it around as it seemingly performed for you. “I can see its beak too! It looks the size of Sebastian’s head.” “Are you saying I have a big head?”  Ominis chuckled as the image grew clearer as you spoke. You watched as the squid turned, showing off one of its eyes. You gasped, watching as it flickered from yellow to a pale green, one that matched Ominis’ eyes. “Ominis! It just copied your eye colour! That’s amazing!” You grabbed his hand in excitement, watching as the squid placed a tentacle to the glass, its suckers pressed against the glass, almost demonstrating to you.
Ominis felt his face heat up as you squeezed his hand, excitement lacing your voice as you began to recall information from one of the books you had read. “Apparently, it’s sort of…domesticated. Like it was a pet a long time ago. One of the authors said they fell of a boat in the lake once, and that the squid pushed them back to the surface and to the boat, like it was helping them.” Ominis nodded, listening to every word you spoke. Sebastian had retreated back to the couch after you had made fun of his head, having seen the squid multiple times since he was sorted into Slytherin.
You watched the squid for a few more minutes, until it slowly swam away in search of food. You yawned, leaning your head onto Ominis’ shoulder for support. “I’ll walk you back to your common room, so you don’t fall asleep on the way there.” He offered, and you nodded, making your way back to the door, waving to Sebastian. The two of you walked down the halls, silent yawns escaping your lips every now and then. “I apologize for keeping you up so late,” Ominis said, breaking the silence. You shook your head as you smiled, grabbing his hand and giving it a gentle squeeze. “It’s all right. You let me see the giant squid, and I loved it.” You had made it to the staircase leading up to your common room, and you picked up your robes from the ground. You changed into them and offered the Slytherin robe back to Ominis, who shook his head. “I have other robes; you should keep it in case I sneak you in again.” You smiled as your cheeks heated up, letting out a soft thank you.
The two of you stood there in silence for a moment, unable to turn and walk away from each other. You looked down at your feet as you thought back to the squid, thinking about how you may have never seen it if it wasn’t for Ominis. Quickly, you looked back up at him, placing a hand on his shoulder. Ominis’ brows furrowed in confusion at the sudden touch, but quickly replaced it with shock as you softly pressed your lips to his cheek. You smiled against his skin as you whispered a final “thank you,” before pulling away. You watched in amusement as he was left speechless, fiddling with his sleeve as he tried to find the words to say. “Again, some time.” He muttered, and you smiled, leaning over, and placing another kiss on his cheek before heading up the steps. “Some time soon, I hope.”

Chapter One
Not Over Yet
A soft laugh blew air over your ear as you gave a stretch of your paws. "I do like spending days like this," Ominis whispered, nudging against your head. "Me too," you admitted with sleep settling over your mind again. You had chosen an area not far from the castle, but secluded so no one would see a house cat lounging with a leopard. Though you both took the forms of cats, they were vastly different. "It's nice not having worries or years worth of homework to do." He chuckled. "I can imagine." You peaked out from under your lids, seeing him smelling the air as he tensed. "Sebastian's prowling again?" "He's nearby, but I think he's learned his lesson about scaring you while you sleep." You huffed as you moved your head to lay across his paw. "It's his own fault." "Was not. You shouldn't have clawed me that deeply!" His voice drifted your way, getting you to look over seeing the silver fox just before he was tackled by the red one. "You shouldn't have said anything," Anne teased, bouncing away from her brother and sat down next to Natty. "You lose. You owe us a butterbeer." "That's not fair, I was defending myself!" Sebastian looked towards you. "You're helping me buy them." "No, I'm not. I just wanted to relax in the sun. You wanted to play hunter/prey." Poppy raced over, breathing heavily. "Professor Fig," she started almost wheezing, but she said enough. You climbed up to your feet and shifted, getting her to sigh. "Is he hurt?" She shook her head as the Sallow twins, Natty and Ominis shifted. "He needs to talk to you." You didn't wait for more information, before you raced off towards the school, your friends trailing behind you. Your time as animals had given you opportunity to explore the area well and an agility to avoid tripping over vines and branches. Too many things could have gone wrong. The repository, your father, Ominis's parents. It was better to get the information quickly. Fig was waiting at the castle gates with an official looking man and Sharp. "Ah, here she is." You slowed to a walk, noticing their eyes turn to you. "What's this about?" The man you didn't know, clocked your friends, before speaking. "May we speak in private?" "Uh?" Fig gave you a smile, motioning for you to follow. "We can use my office." Sharp stopped your friends from following, which made you look back worriedly, seeing them mirroring it.
For added security, the man you didn't know placed a spell on the room to prevent people from listening in. "Am I in trouble?" Fig shook his head, a small smile showing on his face. "This man is Richard Jordon, an auror," Sharp mentioned. The man taking it as his que to begin, he took a step towards you. "We're having a problem with a Hamlet, I'm sure you're familiar with, Feldcroft. Specifically in Rookwood castle." Confused, you glanced to Fig. "What does this have to do with me?" "We can't see the cause of the destruction, but I know you can see things others can't. We think you might be able to help us." "Destruction?" "Rookwood castle had been destroyed and sucked up completely. It's eating its way towards the town." Your eyes bugged. "I can definitely see how that's a problem." "I need you to go to that town and stop it if you can. It's protected by aurors right now and they have been able to slow it enough for us to evacuate the towns people." "When do you think it's best to leave?" "As soon as possible. So please, get ready quickly." "I'd like to go with her," Fig said quickly as you headed towards the door. "Very well." When you opened it, you saw three figures outside, hidden by the disillusionment charm. You hurriedly shut the door. "Such nosey friends I have," you teased as you headed down the stairs. "Are you in trouble?" Ominis asked, breaking his spell. "No, there's just an issue in one of the Hamlet's the aurors think I can help with," you answered quickly leading them from the room. "So, they came here to request your help?" Sebastian asked, earning a sharp shushing. "What? This has to be huge. What's really going on?" "I'm going to talk to the keepers. They may have more insight."
They followed you down. Anne, who hadn't been down in the map chamber, looked around in awe. "I was wondering when we'd see you. Charles told us about the destruction of his castle." "What?!" Sebastian asked stepping closer to see your face. "Sebastian, please. I'm trying to find this out too. I will explain everything." His heckles soothed so you looked to the keepers. "Can our magic go unstable after long periods?" "Not as far as we know, but the magic at Rookwood castle had been tampered with by Ranrock. There's no way of knowing if he missed one and broke it's container," Percival answered. "If it is, I can't imagine the devastation it'll cause." "According to the auror, it's taken Rookwood castle and slowly heading towards Feldcroft," you said, with Sebastian trying to step forward again, but was held back by Anne. "They're taking me there once I'm ready." "What?" Ominis took your other side, his brows pinched. "It's too dangerous." "If I don't go, it'll take out Feldcroft. The aurors are slowing it and have evacuated the town." He made a small noise to let you know he didn't like this idea, but didn't press it. "It does seem ancient magic is the probable cause of the disruption, but we won't know for sure until you visit and tell us," Bakar replied, getting you to sigh and nod. "You're not going alone!" Ominis said, quickly catching your wrist. "This could be a trap as much as it could be ancient magic." "Ominis-" "You already told us where to go. We will go there and wait for you to show up. There's a floo network right outside," Sebastian said as Anne nodded. Grumbling, you nodded. "Fine, meet us in Feldcroft and don't let anyone see or hear you." Ominis squeezed your wrist, before following the twins out of the chamber. "Let's hope none of us get hurt." "Your friends are capable," Nimah replied, smiling at their retreating backs. "Besides, they could be what saves your life in the end. It's best to let these things run their course." You huffed as you turned to leave. "Good luck!" They called after you.
Richard apperated you and Fig to Feldcroft, seeing a large dome of magic being held by many different aurors, but what was worse was the angry swirl of magic violently thrashing just inside it. "By your expression, I'm guessing they were on point?" Fig asked, grabbing Richard's attention. "Oh, yeah. It's not as bad as Isadora's, but its still substantial." You nearly jumped when you felt a hand slip into yours. "Let's go, but out of safety for the Hamlet, we can only keep the barrier open for a few seconds," Richard said as he led the way towards the large dome. "Do you want me to go with you?" Fig asked, glancing at you. "No. No one should follow me in. There's no guarantee it wouldn't hurt someone who did." Fig nodded, but the hold on your hand tightened, silently defiant. You moved closer, feeling the hand let go. "Alright, ready?" You nodded, taking a deep breath as Richard pointed his wand at the barrier, creating a hole large enough for you to fit through. You moved in, your hair immediately swirling due to the wind the magic was making. You looked back as the barrier closed, Fig's worry made you smile sadly. "I'll be okay." He gave a nod and smiled the best he could as you turned and began towards the crater. You slid down the side, trying to be careful, but you hit into something soft and warm. "Are you okay?" Ominis asked, the disillusionment charm falling, quickly followed by Sebastian and Anne's. "What are you doing in here? Didn't you hear what I said-" "Given what happened last time, I wasn't going to let you come in here alone," Ominis clarified, helping steady you when you slipped on rubble. "And we're just nosey," Sebastian teased, but the smile fell when he saw how terrified you were. "You're turning into a teacher. We can defend ourselves." "I wasn't-" "You came in here thinking you weren't going to survive this, didn't you?" Anne asked, getting both boys to look in your direction. "What?" Ominis asked softly, his voice trembling. "Did you-" "No, not die. But, you can't see the magic that's swirling around our heads. It's strong." Sebastian nodded. "Which is why having back up is important. We can protect you while you do your thing." You couldn't exactly expect the aurors to let them out, it would be devastating. "Fine, but just keep protego at the ready. Please?" Keeping a hold on your hand, Ominis followed you, ready to protect you if needed as the twins trailed behind. You found the mass of magic by a broken repository. With Ominis beside you, Anne on the other and Sebastian at your back, you began to force it back into a cage. The strain making Ominis's hand tighten. The moment you had it enclosing, it exploded, shooting hot air your group, which Anne and Ominis instantly protego-ed. The air became thick, almost painful to breath as Ominis tried to cover your body with his as much as he could. Dust and smoke obscured anything outside the shields. Finally, when everything settled, you saw the repository was gone, but you were in the side of a cave. "Uh? What happened?" Sebastian asked, looking back at you. You shrugged. "This hasn't happened before." "Well, it could have caused it when you sealed the magic. But, let's go tell everyone the good news," Anne said, glancing around. You wanted to point out the magic was gone, but decided to just follow the group out of the cave, seeing no aurors, no Fig and no Hamlet, just a large empty field. "The air smells different," Ominis whispered as he held up his wand. "We don't know either," you admitted once you seen fear replace shock.
Everything had changed, none of the villages were there anymore as you walked towards Hogwarts. "I've got a bad feeling," Ominis said as you noticed the Quidditch pitch was gone. "You're not the only one," you whispered as you pushed open the door to Hogwarts, seeing it deserted. "Okay?" Sebastian said, drawing the word out. "Where is...everything?" You continued towards the great hall, Ominis freezing for a second. "What's wrong?" "I hear voices, but none I recognize." Taking a deep breath, you pulled the door open, the noise drawing everyone's eyes to your group. Your eyes saw four figures where you've only seen in pictures. "Good lord," you whispered, instinctively taking a step back. "What?" Ominis asked. "We're about to meet Godric, Helga, Rowena and Salazar," you answered softly, as they headed towards you, getting Ominis to tense as you moved back from the door.
The four of you stood in front of the four of them. They were watching you closely, taking in your clothes and the snake patches on your robes that were similar to the green on Salazar's. "From a different school?" Godric asked. You nodded, grateful to Natty for telling you so much about her school and hoped they wouldn't question the lie. "From Uganda. Our parents were from here originally and had us out there due to no school. When they heard this one was starting, they transferred us." Salazar looked at each of his companions. "And you just happened to be dressed in robes we haven't given out yet and don't recognize?" "These are the kind of clothes in Uganda. They told us about the patches, they picked the ones they thought we'd be in." "We'll be the judges of that," Salazar replied standing up. "First, I want to know your family status." As if rehearsed, Godric, Helga and Rowena sighed together. "We're all purebloods," Sebastian said quickly. He started hissing, his eyes darting between all of you, his eyes landing on Ominis when he hissed back. Parseltongue, huh? I guess he would want to know that. "Very well, I'll take you in my house." He said that with such a tone that it made you shiver. "Follow me, I'll lead the way."
You knew where it was, but you were surprised when he walked into it with you. The students waiting wore older style wool robes covering their tunics. "We're way over dressed," Anne whispered as Salazar swooped over to the middle of the room. "Now, to make things clear for our new students and to know what's required of you," he said waving his hand seeing a girl stand up, her eyes glowing green. "The Imperious curse," Anne whispered, horror clearly heard, making you grateful you were too far from the other students for them to hear it. Ominis unconsciously took a step closer to you. "Tell us your name," Salazar said, his voice dripping in venom. "And your blood status." "Amara Apollo. I'm a half blood." Ominis was now pressed into your side. "In this school we only accept purebloods. Your parents will get the message," he said pressing the tip of his wand to the girl's chest, pulling a glittering mist from her. You inhaled, drawing Salazar's attention as your eyes remained glued to her magic now stuck to his wand. He pressed it to his chest, stealing it as his eyes flickered. "Avada Kadavra!" The room flashed green and the girl fell to the floor as the room cheered. Salazar looked around at all the shocked faces of the new students, his eyes landing on you after you had fixed a neutral expression. He smirked as he moved closer. "Clean up this mess." He stopped in front of your group. "You're certainly welcomed in my house. I look forward to watching you grow." He left the common room, making you let out the breath you had been holding, as everyone else moved to go to their dormitory. "Poor girl," Anne whispered once the room was empty. "Why did he say that stuff to you?" Sebastian asked. "Salazar has ancient magic. He stole her magic before killing her." "Great, supercharged psychopath."

warnings: swearing, kissing, dangerous stunts and theo being stupid (ryan gosling in the notebook style), unedited since i wrote this in the middle of the night on no sleep again lol. enemies to lovers if you squint a bit
author’s note: since everyone loves theo i’ll pretend this isn’t just for my own selfish needs <3 (especially the notebook reference) also surprise surprise mc is a gryffindor as always, you’d never know i was a slytherin my bad guys… as always let me know what u think! enjoy, angels 💌
Tumblr media
The first time Theodore Nott asks you out, you spill a pot of ink directly into his lap.
It’s not like you meant to do it. But when there’s a Transfiguration worksheet to be getting on with, the Slytherin boy seated next to you by Professor McGonagall asking you out would surely take anyone by surprise.
The second you twist in your seat to look at him in shock, your arm slides the pot right off the desk and directly onto his grey trousers, instantly staining them with the black liquid before you have a chance to speak.
Your hands fly to your mouth to stifle your gasp and you look up at him, anticipating an angry glare in return. Instead, he looks mildly surprised at the ever-growing stain on his crotch, but mostly… amused?
“A simple ‘no’ would have sufficed, darling,” he says, raising an eyebrow and suppressing a smile.
You begin stuttering out an apology and scrambling for your wand to wave away the stain before you can do something stupid like attempting to rub it off with your sleeve. Your cheeks instantly heat up at the humiliating image now plaguing your mind and you barely contain a sigh of relief when you realise the lesson has finished.
It’s a miracle your shoes haven’t left scuff marks on the ground in a cartoonish trail with the speed at which you leave the classroom. Godric knows why Theo Nott of all people wants to ask you out, but since it can’t possibly be for any good reason, you’d rather not think about it too much. This, however, isn’t helped by Hermione pestering you about why you look so flustered for the entire walk to the Charms classroom.
Twenty minutes later, her attention is finally diverted. On the other hand, it’s because she’s berating you for accidentally burning the end of her left eyebrow off with a charm gone wrong.
The second time Theo asks you out, there are thankfully no ink pots around.
“Hey,” he whispers from behind you, making you jump within an inch of your life despite his low volume. You swivel in your chair to glare at him, incredulous. Seeing that he’s startled you, Theo grins. “Sorry. What are you doing?”
“Baking a cake,” you deadpan, once your heart has started beating at a normal pace again. Holding up your Potions book, you feel the annoyance start to seep in when Theo continues looking at you, undeterred. “What does it look like I’m doing?”
Apparently unfazed by your sarcasm, he drags out the chair next to you and spins it around to sit on it backwards. Settling his arms on top of the backrest, Theo rests his chin on them to look at you. “You never did answer my question.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” you mumble, eyes scanning the page in front of you but taking in nothing. “If you’ll excuse me, I have to study-”
“Are you going to make me ask you again?” he sighs. You panic a little at his bluntness and continue pretending to read, not knowing what else to do. Theo takes your silence as encouragement and shuffles his chair closer to your own. “Go out with me.”
The arrogance practically drips off his voice, and the pit of anxiety in your stomach immediately turns into irritation instead. “No,” you grit out, slamming your potions book shut to scowl at him. “And I don’t hear you asking anything.”
“Okay,” Theo says slowly, nodding as though he understands. It’s clear that he doesn’t though, because the next words out of his mouth have you stunned. “Please, oh please, will you do me the absolute greatest honour of going out with me?”
”Merlin,” you exhale, pinching the bridge of your nose. Dropping your hands into your lap, you see no solution other than gathering your things to return to the common room. “You’re having me on…”
“I can assure you, I’m not,” Theo says quickly, stopping you from leaving by gently grabbing your elbow. You stop in your movements to catch him looking more unsure than you’ve ever seen, and you’ve never been more perplexed. “I’m completely serious right now. Go out with me?”
“Wh- I don’t even-” you sigh, cutting your senseless muttering off to cross your arms over your textbook. “Whatever happened to a simple ‘no’ sufficing, darling? Aren’t there a million other girls for you to go and pester? Godric knows you’ve got an entourage following you half the- What are you looking at?”
Amazingly, Theo’s expression has lost all trace of vulnerability and now displays a slightly faraway look, his signature lazy grin in full effect. “Sorry, I didn’t hear a word after you called me ‘darling’.”
Resisting the urge to hit him over the head with your textbook, you take a deep breath and grasp the potential weapon tighter in your hands before speaking. “As hard as it is for me to believe that girls actually fall for this rubbish, your history with them shows that they do. Don’t think for a second, I’m going to let you use me like they do.”
Theo considers your words for a few seconds, mulling them over as carefully as though he’s trying to solve a brain teaser. Eventually, he seems to come to a satisfying conclusion, because he tucks his hands into the pockets of his trousers and tilts his head. “So you need me to prove I’m serious about this… and then you’ll say yes?”
“Oh, for the love of-” Huffing, you turn on your heal without saying another word and storm out of the library. Theo doesn’t follow you, allowing you to clear your head and think about the incredibly odd interaction.
You’re climbing through the portrait hole into the Gryffindor common room when you realise you never actually refuted Theo and his theory to make you go out with him. Whether or not it was on purpose, you can’t quite decide.
Over the next few weeks, you start wishing you had stopped Theo before he could start trying to prove himself to you.
You can’t go a single day without the question of going out with him popping up. Much to your bewilderment, it isn’t always him asking. Sometimes it’s his friends, sometimes it’s students at the Gryffindor table who are sick of the multiple owls every morning flocking to your table with a note in their beaks. Sometimes it’s even your friends.
“I mean, really,” Hermione says at breakfast, huffy as always when reprimanding someone. “It’d be benefiting everyone if you just went out with him. Why don’t you, anyway?”
“He’s a Slytherin,” Ron butts in, talking to Hermione as though he’s explaining something to a child. He takes a gigantic bite of his toast before speaking, his next words coming out muffled. “Surely that’s reason enough.”
“No, that isn’t reason enough,” Hermione says sternly, furrowing her brows. “A good reason would have been all the girls he’s always with. Of course, that’s flown out the window recently. He’s also never given them as much attention now that I think about it.”
“He’s definitely not the worst of the group either,” Harry adds, leaning in as nosily as Ron. “Not like we’re talking about Malfoy…”
“Don’t you two have Quidditch tactics to be discussing?” you snap, exhausted by the subject already. The two boys hold up their hands in surrender, before shuffling down the bench. Whether that’s to be closer to the Quidditch team, or to get away from you before you start throwing hexes - you aren’t certain.
The fact you’re awake early in the morning on a Saturday isn’t helping your sour mood, and the Quidditch match being between Gryffindor and Slytherin only adds to this.
“We’d better go and get a good seat at the front, so we aren’t on our tiptoes for the whole game like last time,” Hermione says, already sliding off the bench. You give your cup of coffee one last longing look before you allow yourself to be dragged away.
You haven’t even made it onto the Quidditch pitch before you’re already wishing for that cup of coffee to give you strength, because you find none other than Theo standing outside the Great Hall in his green and silver Quidditch robes.
As soon as he spots you, Theo plasters on that charming smile of his and opens his mouth, no doubt to ask you if you could talk privately.
Hermione interjects before he gets the chance. “Don’t bother, I’m leaving.” She simply sighs when you look at her, betrayed. “He’d have convinced you anyway! I’ll save you a seat.”
You watch her leave, helplessly before turning to Theo and crossing your arms. “Yes?”
“I have a proposition for you,” he says simply, getting to the point. The proposition has, without a doubt, got something to do with you and him and a trip to Hogsmeade, but you gesture for him to continue nonetheless. You can’t deny it’s been entertaining watching Theo come up with new ways to ask you out these past few weeks. “I’ll throw the match and let your lot win if you go out with me.”
This startles a laugh out of you, something between a chortle and a gasp. “Oh, you cheeky bastard,” you exclaim, but you can’t help grinning. That was quite possibly the last thing you expected him to say. “First of all, I think my lot is perfectly capable of winning on their own. And secondly… as funny as it would be, I’d rather not have your death and Malfoy’s subsequent imprisonment in Azkaban be on my conscience.”
You only realise just how wide your smile is when it starts to fade under Theo’s unwavering gaze. His lips twitch up into a smile and you immediately frown as an automatic response. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“You’re bantering with me,” Theo says, grinning as though he’s extremely pleased with himself. You realise with a jolt, that yes you were bantering. “One step closer to agreeing to go out with me.”
“That’s not happening,” you protest, but it sounds fairly weak, even to you. “Like I keep telling you, I’m not going to be one of those girls.”
Theo shrugs. “And I think you already know you’re not one of those girls. It’s fine, I can wait.”
The relaxed manner in which he says this has you flabbergasted to say the least. Truthfully, you aren’t completely sure why you haven’t just agreed at this point. No one in the whole school is used to witnessing such extravagant displays from Theodore Nott, so you’ve accepted the fact you’re an outlier in this particular subject area. You’re starting to think Hermione’s right, and it’s pure stubbornness that’s keeping you going.
“You’ll be waiting a long time then,” you say, giving Theo a bland smile.
“Nah,” is all he says, the smile still gracing his unperturbed face. “Keep an eye out for me in the Quidditch stands.”
Theo winks at you before walking away in the direction of the pitch and you linger in the castle for a good few minutes before snapping out of it and walking in the same direction.
You find Hermione quickly at the front of the Gryffindor stand and you’re about to ask how long until the game starts when Lee Jordan’s voice begins to boom from the commentator stand.
“Strong start for Gryffindor with Katie Bell taking the Quaffle and- nope, Vaisey’s taken it and passed it onto Urquhart, his fellow Chaser and the new Slytherin captain.” You’re thankful for Lee’s commentary as it’s easy to follow and you probably wouldn’t have a clue if it weren’t for him. Surprisingly, he keeps it professional enough for a while. “Ginny Weasley tries to take the Quaffle after a near hit there to Urquhart, thanks to new Gryffindor Beater Jimmy Peakes and that very solid Bludger over there. Unfortunately, he missed-”
“JORDAN.”
“Sorry, Professor McGonagall, I meant fortunately. Slytherin Chaser Mattheo Riddle now has the Quaffle and seems to be aiming to score and- oops! He’s missed, thanks to Gryffindor Keeper Ron Weasley. Good on you, Weasley,” Lee says, unable to be impartial as shown by McGonagall’s glare. “As for the Slytherin Keeper, Nott seems to be distracted by something in the Gryffindor stands. Or should I say someone.”
Laughter echoes in every stand, much to your utter humiliation and some people even start whooping and cheering in your direction. Theo’s antics are common knowledge at this point, but it doesn’t make the laughter any less embarrassing. You try and maintain a shred of dignity by standing still and glaring as hard as you can at Theo. Horrifyingly, he starts to fly in your direction.
Lee looks at McGonagall before speaking, but she merely shrugs helplessly, looking flustered herself. “Er, well it seems Slytherin are open for Gryffindor to score. No one seems to be taking advantage, however, as I think I can speak for everyone when I say we want to know what’s going on with Nott and Y/N.”
Glancing at the others, you realise Lee is right and all the players are hovering in place, making no move to continue the game. They look partly confused, but mostly nosy.
Theo stops just outside the Gryffindor stand, his attention focused wholly on you. You raise both eyebrows in question, waiting for him to speak. “Go out with me.”
“Unfortunately, I can’t quite hear what Nott is saying, but I think we can all guess he’s asking her out again,” Lee says, causing a few more cheers and even a couple groans. “Take the hint, mate.”
“Theo, get back to the game!” you hiss, wrapping your arms around you as if it’ll shield you from everyone’s eyes. “You’re embarrassing m- What the fuck are you doing!”
Theo swings a leg over the side of his broomstick so that he’s sitting completely facing you, legs dangling dangerously off one side. Lee sits up a little in his booth and McGonagall looks positively horrified. “For unknown reasons, Nott is balancing precariously in a position no Quidditch player wants to- Merlin, he’s hanging off his broomstick!”
Everyone in the crowd screams and shouts when Theo slips off his broomstick, but they quieten down and watch with fright when they see he’s still holding on with both hands. You think you’re going to faint.
“Theo,” you plead, with the same voice you’d use to coax a bloody kitten out of a tree. “Get back on your broomstick. Please.”
“Only if you go out with me,” Theo says, eyes determined despite breathing a little heavier. The broomstick is thin and despite his strength, it’d be hard for anyone to maintain a grip for long. “Say you’ll go out with me and I’ll get back on.”
“Just say it!” Hermione grabs you by the shoulder to shake you.
Professor McGonagall seems to have shaken out of her previous daze and begins scrambling around for her wand while Lee narrows his eyes to better assess the situation. “Godric, Y/N. Just say ‘yes’ and end everyone’s misery already.”
“But…” you trail off, hands shaking as you keep your eyes on Theo’s white knuckles still gripping the broom. “I don’t want to encourage this stupid behaviour.”
Theo rolls his eyes as though he can’t believe you’re still objecting. He shakes his head at you, though his chest is shaking with laughter. “Go out with me, and I swear I’ll never do anything stupid again. Fucking hell, I’ll quit Quidditch altogether if you want.”
You open your mouth to say something, you’re not sure what, but before you can get a word out, Seamus Finnigan pipes up from beside you. “Personally, I say let him fall off the bloody thing.”
Tutting, you turn to Theo just to find the idiot raising an eyebrow challengingly. His left hand begins to loosen on the broomstick, deliberately.
“Theo, don’t you dare.”
He drops his left hand completely and you scream, the noise drowned out by everyone else’s yells.
“OKAY!” you yelp, heart in throat as you watch Theo dangling from his broomstick with one hand, clearly struggling. “Okay, I’ll go out with you, you stubborn idiot!”
The Gryffindors that hear you, begin to cheer, setting off the other houses and once McGonagall sees Theo begin to pull himself up on his broomstick, she visibly relaxes, slumping in her seat as she clutches her chest. Lee soon gets the message. “Finally, after a good month of watching Nott pine pathetically, Y/N has agreed to go out with the poor bast- Er, beggar. Sorry, Professor. By the way Nott, you’ve got detention for a week.”
Now sitting normally on his broomstick, Theo grins at you like the cheeky bastard that he is, with elation clear as day on his face. You struggle to fight off your own grin and you can tell by his expression you’re not doing a very good job at it. “Pull something like that again and I’ll push you off your broomstick myself,” you warn him, though it lacks any real threat. You were more worried than angry, and it definitely shows. “Okay?”
“No more stupid behaviour,” Theo promises, sounding sincere as he nods, messy hair falling into his eyes. The wind blows it out of the way almost immediately and you find yourself wanting to do it with your fingers. “After this, though.”
You furrow your brows as Theo flies close enough to the Gryffindor stand to get off his broomstick and hop right into the crowd, landing next to you. Broomstick in hand, Theo doesn’t take his eyes off you when he holds it out to Hermione. “If you don’t mind, Granger.”
Clearly baffled, Hermione gingerly takes the broomstick from him and watches the two of you, as enraptured as the rest of the school.
You face Theo properly, looking up at his eyes to see them glittering with pride and achievement. You tilt your head in question, wondering why he hasn’t yet returned to the game.
Theo answers you by gripping your waist to pull you into a stupidly dramatic, dizzying, wonderful kiss. His lips are soft against your own and cold from the wind, but the shiver that runs down your spine has nothing to do with the temperature and everything to do with the way Theo is pressed against you.
You could go on forever, but the cheers and claps and hollering around you remind you that you’re surrounded by all your peers and, Godric, your teachers.
Pulling away, you clear your throat and attempt to gain back some of your dignity by keeping a serious face. Theo attempts nothing of the sort as he’s still wearing a silly grin. You try and avoid his eyes for the sake of your nerves and you mutter the first thing that comes to mind. “Erm, good luck then. I hope you win.”
This is the wrong thing to say surrounded by your fellow Gryffindors as a few of them boo at you.
Theo rolls his eyes at the dramatics, while you simply scowl, pointedly at Seamus who seems to have boo’ed the loudest. Hermione is beaming at you when she hands Theo back his broomstick, though she also gives a little frown directed at Seamus.
Getting back on his broomstick, Theo hovers near you outside the stand. You lower your voice to a whisper that only he can hear. “I still hope you win.”
Theo shrugs, looking more relaxed than you’ve ever seen him during a Quidditch game. “I’ve already won, darling.”

“MY NAME IS HARRY POTTER. I come from twenty-years in the future, you’re my mum — one of my ‘em, actually. It’s complicated. And you’re married to James Potter, Remus Lupin, and Sirius Black.”
You blink.
“Get the fuck out of my room!”
Harry James Potter has dodged many things in his life. Killing curses, jinxes, girls, Draco Malfoy, and Dudley’s sloppy punches, but he’s never had to dodge his sixteen-year-old mother’s fuzzy slipper before. (Godric, that sounds weird, even in his head.) He doesn’t know precisely how he arrived here. In the Slytherin common room, to be exact, in your dorm. Harry remembers duelling with Death Eaters, Hermione calling his name, and a flash of light hitting him square in the chest, then he remembers waking up in the cold tiles of the snake dungeon. He nearly throws himself off the window when he meets your eyes, bleary from interrupted sleep — it’s not often he gets to meet [read: one of] his dead parents, after all, three had been brutally murdered by Voldemort, and one killed by his own loony cousin. He misses Sirius, though. A lot. And right about now, he could do with some of Hermione’s nagging and brilliant plan-making.
At present — or past, Harry guesses — he watches you scramble out from your duvet, hand clumsily reaching for your wand as you snarl at him. He wonders if his mother knows that he’s encountered other creatures far more threatening than her. Oh shit, he realizes with all the forces of an angry Hermione Granger, isn’t this the last thing he’s supposed to do? But, well, Harry has given, and given, so much of himself all for the greater good — just this once, he’d like to see his parents alive and well. Even if they were currently trying to blast him into the walls.
“If you’d just let me explain, mum—!” Harry pleads, nearly dropping his glasses after dodging one of your stinging hexes. Godric, you’re crazy. “Please!”
“Stop calling me that!” You screech, eyes set ablaze.  Harry finds that you’re quite dynamic with your attacks. A hairbrush, followed by a stinging jinx, then a thick History of Magic textbook — which rudely hits him in the face, but he doesn’t dare complain because you’re his mother, and he’s respectful like that — and after you’ve exhausted your breath, running him into a corner, and your nostrils flare with the stubbornness of a lion, you point the tip of your wand at him. “If this is another one of the Prewett’s shitty pranks, I want you to leave! You are in the girls’ dormitory beyond midnight, and so help me, if you aren’t walking out that door in the next five seconds, I will kill you and string you up by your bottoms for everyone in school to see! Maybe all your stupid rumours of me being a Death-Eater might come true after all!”
“You’re a Death-Eater?” Harry asks dumbly.
You growl furiously, and Harry figures that was not the right thing to say. “I wonder what McGonagall would say if I delivered your head to her on a silver platter.”
“Professor,” Harry corrects with a toothy grin. “Professor McGonagall.”
You slam his head against the wall.
Definitely the wrong thing to say.
Harry groans, little Dobby heads floating around his vision. Why was this so much harder than actually facing Voldemort? Quick, he needed to think of something, otherwise he’d end up eviscerated to ashes on your cold, stone floors. Harry is pretty sure you’d use his remains as decoration to send off a message to your enemies.
“You hate your father,” Harry slurs through the pain, remembering Remus’s stories of how you were the gentlest magical being he’s ever had the privilege to love — now that Harry thinks about it, Remus was being extremely biased, nothing about you is gentle at all. “He’s forcing you to marry someone old enough to be your grandfather. You love to read Muggle literature but had to stop when your father burnt your whole collection of books. Your favorite novel is Persuasion by Jane Austen. It’s the one book you carry with you everywhere, you could never get tired of it.”
Your grip on his shoulders falters, but the fury in your eyes crackles. “This isn’t funny.”
“It’s not meant to be funny, mum,” Harry croaks, voice cracking pathetically — strange how this is the most he’s ever uttered the word, mum; it’s a peculiar string of letters, foreign on his tongue. “You have tremors in your left leg from when your father cast the Cruciatus curse on you. One of your dearest friends is a Hogwarts house-elf named Pipley. You cheated on your Transfiguration essay once, and—”
“That’s enough!” You bark, eyes narrowed in dangerous slits. “I don’t know where you heard those from, you creepy, little stalker, but if you want to keep breathing, then I suggest you shut up.”
Harry scoffs — you don’t understand. Everything he’s learned about you is from Sirius and Remus. They talk about you with whispered devotion, your name like a prayer on their lips, their eyes glazed with wistfulness as though they could see you reaching out for them — but you were dead in Harry’s time. Yet, you might as well have been alive with their tales of you.
(“She’s a different kind of beautiful,” Sirius had said, a year after breaking out from Azkaban, sitting by the fire in Grimmauld Place, taking a swig of decade-old firewhiskey, “The kind of beautiful you don’t want to take your eyes off from because you’re afraid she’ll disappear from your eyes. But you won’t forget her, oh no, you’ll memorize the freckles and moles on her skin, the scars from her years, the light in her eyes, and the way she holds her head up high. You should have seen her, James, she. . . she was — is glorious.”)
“I told you,” says Harry firmly — although he loves his mother very much, she’s beginning to wear him out, “My name is Harry James Potter, I come from twenty-years in the future. You are one of my parents.” A lightbulb flashes in his head. He squirms in your hold, reaching for his robe pocket until he finds the thing he’s looking for. Harry dangles the ring in front of you, grinning in success when your eyes flash in recognition. “It’s—”
“A family heirloom,” You say breathlessly. The alexandrite winks under the light, a familiar gold band with the Latin inscription of your House words. “Where did you steal this from?”
Harry rolls his eyes. “You left it for me in my Gringotts vault. It’s my heirloom now. You have to believe me, there’s no way you can deny this.”
You take a step backwards, nibbling on your lower lip, as you stagger to your bed — Harry nearly stumbling to catch you in case you fell; adjusting to the living proof of time travel was quite difficult, he, of all people, should know. He exhales, dragging a hand down his face. “Magic, amirite?”
You throw a pillow at him, which he catches gracefully thanks to his Seeker reflexes, as you plop down in the comforts of your quilts. “Sleep. The other girls won’t be back until the end of the holiday. We can deal with whatever this is in the morning. It’s way too early for me to process the idea of a future Potter spawn following me around.”
Harry smiles. “Yes, mum.”
Tumblr media
ONE THING THAT his fathers failed to tell him about you, and that Harry had to learn himself, was that you took ages to get ready. You sat on the chair in front of your vanity mirror, the birch wood legs whittled with snakes, and it was as though you had a Sticking Charm on the cushion. Harry didn’t know there could be so many creams, oils, and serums, and powders one put on their face. He blanches when you turn to offer him a cream for his under eyes. (“Suit yourself.” You shrug, turning to brush your cheek with dusts of pink. “Just saying, those dark circles aren’t doing you any favors.”)
“What am I like in the future?” You ask, a kind lilt to your voice, much like a warm hug, much like home.
Harry stiffens, shoving his hands in pockets of the robes that were twice his size — you had given him the garments of Lucius Malfoy to change in, which you apparently had stolen from his room. It’s come full circle, really, the Sorting Hat had once told him he would be great in Slytherin, and now here he was, looking fabulous in green — because he was about to hurl at the feel of the velvet on his skin, knowing slimy Lucius Malfoy had worn it. (“No son—” You pause with a tight purse in your lips, as if you still can’t accept the fact. Harry doesn’t blame you. “—no son of mine will be parading around in red of all colors, future or not.” And Harry finds that he really doesn’t care, so long as you call him your son.)
“Loved,” replies Harry gruffly, avoiding your eyes in the reflection of your mirror — they were piercing. One look and Harry wanted to spill all of his deepest, darkest secrets. He remembers the photographs in his album, the one he’s stared at so many times as a child. It’s a moving photograph of the five of you, fresh out of Hogwarts, each wearing a smile that stretched from ear-to-ear. Before Sirius and Remus, it was the only semblance of proof that Harry had — that you had once been alive. Remus is holding you by the waist in the picture, twirling you around as autumn leaves fell. You were — are — loved, and Harry thinks there’s no better description than that.
(“I bloody hated her cat,” says Remus with a roguish quirk to his lips, regalling Harry with more talks of his parents. “Sirius, too. We just never got along with the little creature. But your mother loved it, and we would have done anything to make her happy. She deserved it, you see. She deserved more than what I had to offer her, but still she chose me anyway. And I am a selfish man, Harry, I crave glimpses of her and the whispers of her voice. She has made me a mad man whose only reprieve is her touch.”)
You hum knowingly. “Stupid question, I guess. Since you aren’t allowed to reveal anything more about the future.” You sigh, gracefully threading your arms in the sleeves of your shirt, a green tie in the center of your collar. “Except, of course, when you gave me a heart attack in the middle of the night by telling me the last thing I want to become — no offense, I just don’t see how a relationship with those rowdy bunch would work. They get on my nerves far too much for me to ever feel anything other than disgust.”
Harry doesn’t need a mirror to see that his expression has contorted in confusion; brows knitted and upper lip crinkled. By their memories of you, you all were madly in love in Hogwarts. Damn. This just made his trip to the past a lot harder. No maze seems to be ever just a maze.
Luckily, you don’t notice him brewing a grand master plan to bring his parents together. Instead, you say, “But you don’t seem to be phased by any of this. If I had been thrown twenty years into the past, I would have puked my guts out twice at some point.”
“Thanks for the image,” says Harry with a scowl. Truthfully, it had either been a present with a noseless Dark Lord to face, trauma to unpack but really never have the chance to, or a past where all of his parents were alive, and a chance to talk with them for however long he has. He knows where he’ll be staying, thank you very much.
“Anytime,” You reply with an impish smile.
Your heels pad across the floor as you walk over to him, mouth clicking as you pat the top of his head, full of wild, untameable Potter hair. “You need a trim soon,” You mutter, frowning, as you brush the thick strands away from his eyes, then you gasp — and Harry knows exactly what’s coming next. “Oh, you’ve got Evans’s eyes. That’s freaky.”
“I know.” Harry grins.
“Here’s the plan,” You say as you lead him out of your room, making sure no one saw him walking out of your door and getting the wrong impression — because that would be so wrong on many levels, but also, explaining to someone else that the person beside you was a time-traveller was just complicated in general. The Slytherin dungeon is unfamiliarly familiar, eerily quiet, as the two of you made your way out. “Just say you’re Potter’s distant relative, twice or thrice removed, and you’ve always been here. If you lie to their faces enough, they’ll believe it eventually.”
“Will that work?” Harry doesn’t really mind — he needs a connection to James, his father, if he’s going to work out a connection between you and the others, because at the moment, it doesn’t seem like you’re too fond of them. There’s a tick on your jaw every time you mumble the word, Potter. Nevertheless, Harry decides he’s going to spend the duration of the holiday break trying to set you up with them — on the list of most insane things he’s ever done, living out the Parent Trap was high up the tally.
You shrug. “They’ve fallen for less.”
(“She’s got this adorable habit when she lies,” Sirius tells Harry, whipping up a stack of pancakes for their breakfast — Remus browsing through the morning paper. It’s the closest he’s ever been to a normal family. “It’s not obvious to her, of course, but I know her more than I know my own name. So we play along with it.” For a moment, he stops drizzling the maple syrup on the well-cooked batter, gazing at Remus fondly. “D’you remember that, Moony? She led us straight to one of her pranks, and we ended up covered in slug slime. She was so obvious — with her adorable fucking giggles. I need help with Charms, she said, and we knew right away it was a set-up. But it didn’t matter. I’d happily let her lead me to my ruin.”)
The Great Hall is the same as Harry remembers. Now that most have returned home for the holidays, those who stay back mingle with students from other Houses, sharing meals under the bewitched ceiling, their low murmurs and hushed Christmas greetings bouncing off the walls. Harry scours the four tables to find a hint of blazing red hair, or the scent of impending trouble. Fortunately, he doesn’t have to search very far. As fate would have it, James Potter finds you — and where he is, Sirius Black is sure to follow.
You’re barely seated when James comes bounding over to your table — more precisely, he struts, and Harry is horrified to ever be proven wrong by Snape, of all people. He ignores the roll of your eyes as he drags a leg over the bench, sitting to face you as Sirius occupies the space to your left before Harry can even sit down. He can’t even fathom how weird it is to see his parents as rambunctious teenagers. Lovesick, rambunctious teenagers.
“Morning, dove.” James preens under your glare, stealing a grape from your bowl with a boyish smirk. His hair looks as though he’s ran his hand through it many times. “You look ravishing today.”
“As always,” Sirius pipes in. “But that eyeshadow really isn’t complementing your skin tone, my darling.”
You smile at him, right before your lips twist into a cutthroat sneer. “Piss off, Black.”
James stifles a laugh as he shovels a mass of potatoes on your plate, then pumpkin pasties, and slides a steaming cup of Dragon Well tea in front of you.
“What the hell are you doing, Potter?” You reach over to smack his arm when he sprinkles apple slices and bacon on your breakfast.
“What does it look like?” James smiles lopsidedly. “You need to eat more, honey.”
(In the future, Sirius will tell Harry, “It started off as a joke, a way to get on her nerves — but then, it just became this thing about taking care of her, making sure she got enough sleep before her tests, wondering if she had breakfast or dinner, staying with her in the library, walking her to the Slytherin common room, and sending her stupid notes just to make her laugh. You don’t get it, Harry. I’d give my every breath to ensure her life. We all would.” Harry doesn’t see Sirius any more during that evening, but he hears a bottle crashing against a wall, cracking into a million pieces, and the masked sound of Sirius sobbing, and Harry decides to leave him alone for the night.)
Then, you tear your eyes away from James — he huffs, pushing your plate to you, mildly annoyed that you’ve deprived him of your eyes; they were his favorite part of you, you see, so expressive and full of life; James thinks you put the stars to shame — and thankfully, you remember that Harry still exists. You lightly smack Sirius’s leg until he gives Harry some room to sit. “Potter, meet other Potter. It’s the holidays, shouldn’t it be the perfect time to let go of House prejudices and spend time with family?”
James looks at Harry up and down. “You must be from dad’s side of the family with all that hair.”
Harry lets out a breath of relief. That was easy — way too easy. When he takes the vacant space in between you and Sirius, you dump all the available food on his plate, just as James had done for you.
“Eat,” You say with a tone of finality. “You look like the wind could snap you in half.”
“Yes, m—” Harry stops himself before he could finish his sentence, avoiding Sirius’s curious gaze.
“Wow.” Sirius pokes Harry in the shoulder and in the cheek. “You really look like a mini-James, you’ve even got his terrible eyesight.”
“Oi!”
Your fork clatters against the silverware as you turn to Sirius with a shrill. “Not that I do enjoy your company — because, trust me, I do not want you here at all and would very much prefer if you got out of my sight — but why are you here? The Gryffindor table is over there. Unless your housemates finally got sick of you, Potter, which I can definitely see happening.”
James chuckles, tossing another grape in his mouth without taking his eyes off you. “It’s as you said, isn’t it? It’s the time for putting aside House prejudices. And I think it’s a lovely day to enjoy a meal with my favorite snake.”
“Drop dead,” You retort, digging into your chicken with a little more force than necessary.
“Oh, dove.” James shakes his head, a teasing grin pulling at his lips. “It’s cute that you think death will keep me from you.”
(Harry’s been told before, probably by Sirius, that this line had been wedged into his wedding vows for you. “A dramatic one, James was,” Sirius chuckles to himself one morning, Harry and Hermione listening intently, “He always said he’d rather die than ever hurt her. There was this time in seventh year, they had a fight — it was ugly — and she had ignored him for a week. James cried in Remus’s arms begging him to cut his heart out, saying that he didn’t deserve to keep on breathing, not after making you cry.”)
“That is so creepy,” You say in disgust, scrunching your nose. Sirius chortles at your side. “I still wonder why Evans agreed to go out with you.”
“It’s all part of the charm, dove.” James winks. “It’s all part of the charm.”
Harry wants to barf, actually.
After breakfast, James then decides to introduce Harry to Lily, Remus, and Peter. (He’s gonna need the patience of a saint to not Avada Kedavra that rat on the spot.) Harry had spent the whole morning watching Sirius peel oranges and give them to you with a smitten look in his eyes — naturally, you gave whatever Sirius offered you to Harry, and each time Padfoot would visibly wilt. If he were in his Animagus form, Harry thinks he would be whining by now, tongue out and all. James and Sirius follow after you like lost puppies when you extricate yourself from the table.
“Where are you going?” James calls, hot on your heels as you leave the Great Hall.
“Away from you, Potter!”
And James actually sighs when you turn the corner and disappear from their peripheral vision. Seconds later, he turns to Harry with a blinding smile, “She’s definitely charmed.”
Harry chortles.
“Well, come on then!” James guffaws as he wraps an arm around Harry’s neck — this is so, so strange. They begin walking in the opposite direction of where you went. “I still can’t believe we’ve got another Potter here and in Slytherin. I think I would have remembered Minnie calling your name during the Sorting Ceremony. What year are you in?”
He’s supposed to start his sixth-year in a few weeks. “Fifth.” Technically.
“We should ask Lily,” says Sirius, hands in his pockets and ebony ringlets tickling his nape. “She’s got the best memory out of all of us.”
It’s odd, Harry thinks, meeting the person who’s got his eyes — or the other way around, as people have told him. It’s like someone carved out the emeralds of Lily Evans’s eyes and bestowed it upon Harry for safekeeping. She sits beside Remus Lupin, head resting on his shoulder, hands clasped together, as they enjoy the shade. Nex to them, oblivious to their intimate conversation, is Peter Pettigrew — with his rosy, cherub cheeks and innocent blue eyes; not at all the image of a pathological, cowardly liar. Their heads snap in attention as James boisterously cries for their name.
“Marauders — and Lily-pad — meet ickle Potter.” James lightheartedly whacks Harry on the back, to which Harry feels his lungs spill out from his mouth, he’s sure there’s an imprint of his father’s hand on his back now.
“There’s two Potters in Hogwarts?” Sea-green eyes look at him in scrutiny as Lily knits her brows. “How even is the castle still standing?”
James cackles like it’s the best joke he’s ever heard in his entire life, slapping his knee for dramatic effect. Oh, well, at least they’re buying Harry’s half-baked lie. At this point, it’s not even baked, it’s just wet, soggy, and poorly done. “Good one, Lily-pad!”
Sirius ruffles Remus’s shaggy blonde hair, canines bared in a wide grin. “This one here’s Moony, uptight prefect in the morning and absolute beast in the evening.”
Harry blanches. Surely he was talking about his furry problem, right? Right?
Remus doesn’t even flinch, just peels off Sirius’s hand from him and extends his hand out to Harry. “Please do not mind him. Remus Lupin, nice to meet you. Although, I can’t believe this is the first time we’ve met. We would have definitely remembered if we had another Potter in our midst.”
“It’s true, we Potters are just hard to forget,” says James, smiling cheekily.
Harry pokes the inside of his cheek with his tongue. “Mum didn’t take the Potter name. I’m part Dursley. Muggle.”
Lily hums, toying at the ends of her bright hair. “Dursley, huh? What a familiar name.”
“It’s a common one,” Harry assures her — not at all the names of the people who would take him in after they died. And make his life miserable.
“I suppose you’re right,” says Lily, unconvinced.
“And this is Peter.” James introduces the boy eagerly, pride in his voice — as though this isn’t the person who literally allies himself with Voldemort. As if Peter won’t betray his friends all because of fear.
“N–Nice to meet you,” Peter stammers with a nervous fidget, “Any family of James is a friend of ours.”
Harry’s eye twitches.
Tumblr media
IT IS ALMOST COMICAL — the way their eyes land on your figure, bursting through the courtyard from the corridors, winter cloak swishing with every step, tendrils of hair swaying in the crisp wind, and head held up high, thick books under your arms. You pause in front of the Marauders, face blank, then you turn to Peter, greeting him with a: “Hello, only Gryffindor I can tolerate.”
Peter’s cheeks burn a saccharine hue of pink. Oh, no, no, no — absolutely not — Harry will not stand for a little crush Peter Pettigrew has on his mother. He needs James to act now. “Hi,” Peter replies shyly.
Lily quirks her lips. “Hello, princess, see your score for the Astronomy test yet?”
You scowl. “Zip it, Evans.”
The sound of Lily’s laughter fills the atmosphere — it’s the sort of melody that makes flowers bloom in deserts. “Had a bit of difficulty with the star charts?”
Sirius pinches your cheek — Harry thinks you’re going to murder him on the spot. “Difficulty? I think this one just slept through the whole thing.”
James snickers. “Must have been one hell of a nap, princess. You were drooling on my jumper.”
“I most certainly do not drool!” You gasp, appalled, eyes wide as you step away from Sirius.
Sirius rolls his eyes. “What? Is drooling too barbaric for the pretty, little pure-blooded princess now? Newsflash, pet, you’re just as human as we are.”
“Oh, you horrible, loathsome, infuriating—” You whip around to beat his chest with the course book in your grasp — it’s the kind of book Hermione would consider for light reading.
“Irresistibly attractive—?” Sirius supplies for you, grin widening with as he captures your wrist with his hands.
“In your dreams!” You shrill.
You exhale slowly, eyes closing, chest rising when you take a sharp inhale. You open your eyes and stare straight at Harry — for a moment he fears that you’ll bite his head off. “Harry, dear, will you accompany me to the library? I think I’ve found something important regarding your situation.”
Harry nods. “Is it time already?”
“Yes,” You say firmly. “And time is of the essence. Come on.”
“Wait!” Lily calls out to you as you turn to head back to the castle, Harry in tow — he tries to avoid the way James is glaring at your linked arms. “Hogsmeade next week?”
Your jaw falls to the ground — this must have been unrehearsed, if the others’ reactions were anything to go by; Remus had dropped his book in shock, Sirius looked like he couldn’t decide between applauding Lily’s bravery or shaking her, and James was somehow frozen in time. “Excuse me?”
“You’re excused, princess,” says Lily, dimples poking out of her cheek as she takes another step towards you. “You, me, Hogsmeade. A date. I’m sure you’ve gone on one of those before.”
Harry elbows your stomach as you stare at Lily in shock. It takes a few moments to break you out of your stupor. “A–And what makes you think I’ll just go with you?”
Lily shrugs. “I’m fit. Aren’t I, Remus?”
“The fittest,” says Remus without missing a beat.
You laugh incredulously. “Do you just expect me to go along with this? You’re mad, Evans.”
Harry glares at you. You need to go along with this.
“Are you scared, princess?” Lily’s face is inches away from yours, noses almost touching — Harry doesn’t know if he should keep watching this painful way of flirting — as she grins at you, happiness barely contained within her eyes.
To your credit, you don’t back down. (Harry has to say this for the masses: he saw your gaze flitter down to Lily’s lips for a split second.) “Stop calling me that, Evans.”
“One date, then.”
You growl in exasperation, eyes flickering to the boys behind her back — pretending not to hear their conversation. “I suppose I’ll have to deal with them as well?”
Lily beams and Harry swears sunflowers could grow in her direction. “We’re a package deal.”
“Unfortunately,” You utter — but Harry notices it, the lack of venom in your voice. You straighten your posture, nose lifted haughtily, “I choose where we’re going.”
“Done.” The sun peeks out from the cloud just as Lily smiles at you.
“And I want to—”
“Done,” Remus interjects raspily, peering up at you from underneath his lashes. “Anything you want, it’s yours.”
You fight a growing smile, but continue, “If we’re going out in public, you’re going to have to wear—”
“Done,” says James giddily, he looks as though he could kiss you in front of everyone without a care in the world.
“You can’t just agree to anything I say!” You flap your arms in frustration.
“Yes, dear,” Sirius teases.
“Do you know how much you piss me off, Black?” You squawk. “Because you are this close to—”
“You are so fucking beautiful,” Sirius confesses, every pretense shed raw from his skin, sincerity pouring from his words.
“I—” You falter, heat rushing to your cheeks. “You’ve gone mad.”
“It’s your fault, dove,” says James, eyes twinkling like crescent moons as he smiles. “You best take accountability for this.”
“You’re incorrigible — all of you,” You say as you avoid their gazes.
(But they were yours. Past, present, and future. They loved you so much that their soul was no longer their own — it was yours; yours to keep, yours to break, and yours to love. It would be unjust to ask them why they loved you. Do we ask why the sun rises each day without rest? Do we ask a daisy to stop blooming, or a tree to stop growing after it has endured storms and floods? After all, we do not ask why humans follow the light in a tunnel shrouded in darkness.)
“Come on, Harry, let’s go.” You reach for his hand, he notices immediately that the tips of your ears are pink, and your palms are warm with sweat. He barely sees Peter wave goodbye before you tug him in the direction of the castle entrance.
“Wait up!” Remus catches up to you two in quick strides, offering to carry your books for you — not that you agree, stubborn Slytherin that you are. “I’ll walk you to the library.”
“There’s no need for that, Lupin, thank you.” You dodge his eyes, lips tightly pressed together, nails slightly digging into Harry’s arm.
“Remus,” He says with a twinkle. “Call me Remus.”
“Alright.” You pause. “Remus.”
(In that moment, Remus wonders if you remember decking Lucius Malfoy in the face to defend him in your fourth year. He didn’t think he deserved to even breathe in the same air as you — the pure-blooded princess, dressed in clothing worth more than his life, adorned in jewelry he could only dream to afford, raised to believe she was better than everyone else. Then, you beat up Evan Rosier the next month in the courtyard, eyes ablaze, extravagant silk marred with grass stains and mud, and knuckles split open. You spit blood on the ground, looking at Lily then back at Rosier. “Red,” You say, kicking him one last time in the stomach, unafraid of McGonagall’s wrath growing louder and louder. “Just like everyone else. Like those Muggleborns you fear. We’ve all got dirty blood, Rosier. Suck it up.”
“I’ll tell your father about this!” Rosier bellows through bloody teeth.
“Tell him!” You grab his neck and slam your forehead against his. “Tell him that I decide my own future now!”
Remus doesn’t even have to think about it.
He falls in love.)
Tumblr media
FUNNILY ENOUGH, IT’S LILY who gives you her heart first, before anyone else does. It’s the last month of her first year at Hogwarts — it still hasn’t quite sunk in yet that she was a witch. Her, not Petunia, but her — Lily Evans, the witch. Apparently, some people can’t believe it either. A girl from Ravenclaw calls her this foul word, she’s heard it a few times now but it always hurts the same. James and Sirius get into a fight for her honor, now faced with detention later this evening. But she can’t help but wonder, what if they were right? What if she really didn’t belong in this world? It was too good to be true, anyway. Perhaps she’ll just run a flower boutique with Petunia.
“Oi.”
The sound of your voice startles her, and she nearly topples over in the Great Lake. Lily catches sight of your Slytherin colors and resigns herself to another round of name-calling. “What do you want?”
“They’re wrong, you know,” You tell her, ignoring Lily’s question. You look down on her with your nose raised arrogantly — she wishes she could be like you. Born to be magic. “You’ve got a terrifying brain locked up in your head there, Evans. And they know it, too. They’re scared.”
Lily scoffs. “I’m just a Mudblood to them. There’s nothing to be intimidated by.”
You sneer. “Don’t say that word. You’re more than that. More than them. They’ve got long ways to go to prove they have a place in this world. But you — you’ve defied the odds and you were destined to become magic. You don’t have to prove anything. You have the right to be in the wizarding world and no one can take that away from you.”
Then, you pivot on your heels, not bothering to hear her reply. “You’re my rival now, Evans. Do keep up. We’ve got an Astronomy test tomorrow. I look forward to seeing how you do then.”
Lily just gapes. She’s certain there’s butterflies in her stomach. Her heart thumps wildly against her ribcage. Lily raises her hands to feel her blushing cheeks. There’s a light unfamiliar sensation in her stomach — like the urge to kick her legs and scream into a pillow, or more precisely, chase after you and hold your hand.
She stiffens.
Oh.

between blood and barren homes. | godric of gaul
Listen. Um. this isn't proofread and it's almost 3am and i have godric brain rot now (AHEM THANK YOU TO A CERTAIN ANNON) and im so sad and soft for this man and someone sEDATE ME-- this is kind of a spin off slash continuation slash re-writing slash idk man fuck you im tired--of Man or Monster like it's the same lady person thingymabob whatever i dont have to explain myself to you
Pairing: Godric x reader
-;
An ink tattoo stained his skin, peaking from the confines of a grey cotton sweater. She had seen imprints of them littered along his skin at the church, where he had been dressed in white linen clothing. Did he always dress like that? She wondered.
The vampires of Bon Temps often adorned leather, skin-tight to admit status or, perhaps, feel the pressure and heat of their atmosphere in the ways they had lost since their becoming. But Godric was different here, in that regard, in so much as that he seemed to want to relinquish himself of the world’s weight in whatever manner he could. There was so much to tell in the way a person dressed themself, there was so much to tell still in all the ways Godric held himself. Her eyes wandered from where he sat, on that golden white chair, a seat fit for a king were it not anyone but him who sat upon it.
Stan approached and spoke, she could hear them from where she stood, but not see his face. “Welcome home, Sheriff. We are all very relieved.”
Stan Baker could have perhaps afforded himself a bit more of that relief to his tone. She thought that perhaps if someone thought he was more bothered by the entire situation, they wouldn’t be far off. She could remember the cowboy’s booming voice in the church, the anger in his voice as he challenged his Sheriff’s verdict. Maybe he had a problem with authority, or maybe his problem just lay with the way Godric ran things here in his nest. Maybe he thought he could do it better. Her head tilted as she watched him leave the front of the long line up to Godric’s chair, her eyes trailing his movements, lifting to meet his gaze. It had been trained on her since he turned from Godric, watching her as she leaned against the wall, as she watched Godric—as she watched him now.
Stan almost moved towards her, almost opened his mouth to speak to her, almost pulled her aside to have those words with her that he had promised earlier. If only it wasn’t for the increasing pressure of something against his back. Nothing physical, no, the stare of a gaze, of knives incarnate, of a piercing something—warning, perhaps. A threat? No, but something closer to a promise. He didn’t turn around to look at the boy-king who had still been sitting, the movement of her eyes from his to a spot behind him told Stan all he needed to know. He passed by her with not even a single, second look.
“Hello,” she greeted him later, after she had moved outside of the house. “You stood up.”
“You would not come to me.” She laughed lightly, her system shutting down, then resetting. Every word of his tongue rewired every part of her brain. There was something she had become used to with Eric, and even the other vampires of Bon Temps and Dallas, that every conversation with them was a dance, a play to be held. But with Godric, it was different. He wore all his truths in those wide, open eyes.
“I feel special.” She murmured, her eyes refusing to look at his. There was something in her she knew would crumble if she looked at him. But he looked at her, his entire body turned to her as he looked down at her, his head tilted, his arms hanging loosely and unused at his side. Were he a human man, perhaps he would have crossed it, perhaps he would have tried to look where she was looking. Perhaps he would not have come to see her at all. Were he a human man, this would be different. Perhaps they would have spoken about something else, something about the weather, about the party, about—
“Are you?” Were he not himself, this would not be happening.
“Why did you forgive Hugo?” Her question retaliated his. “I’ve seen vampires kill humans for less of an infraction.”
“Why do you believe I did it?”
“Stan Baker thinks you soft,” she blinked as she tilted her head. “Weak. He thinks you hold too much empathy for humans in your age. Perhaps he believes they’d finally convinced you that you all are the monsters they believe you to be. He thinks you did it because you’ve grown fond of them. Isabella Beaumont believes you a kind man, more human than humans, that you hold an empathy and understanding for our kind she wishes to emulate one day. She believes you’ve done it because you are merciful.”
“And you?”
“I think you did it because you’re tired.” Her final verdict caused a small, amused smile to begin festering on his lips.
“I was watching you while you did it,” she relented. “I’ve been watching you all night, really.”
“I’ve noticed you,” he admitted. “But it seems now you can’t meet my eye.”
“No,” she shook her head, staring harder into the eyes of the night. The stars that glimmered above them, the music and chatter that drafted like wind from the inside of the house—there were some people who moved from the confines of its walls to escape into cooler air, but when they noticed the pair, particularly the look Godric gave them, they scurried back inside without a moment’s thought. He had been waiting to hear this human’s words and thoughts and the way she had taken notice of him since they’d met in that church, now, he would not let anything else deter him. “You’re far too intimidating to speak the truth to your face.”
“And what truth would that be?”
When she didn’t respond, he waited.
And when he grew tired of waiting, he spoke again.
“Would you rather not tell me?” His head tilted to look at her, but she remained quiet again. Perhaps it was because she was thinking, but perhaps, and he hoped this was not the case, that she had finally come to her human senses, and the prey drive kicked in. Perhaps in her silence, her body caught up to her mind, and she realized now that the silver around her neck and the silver caressing her fingers would do oh, so, precious little to deter a determined vampire. “Do you take pleasure in seeing me beg to hear your voice?”
“Is that what this is?” She turned to him finally, and her dark eyes met his glistening ones. Always glistening. And she had to steel herself to keep the contact their eyes held. “Have you come here to hear the musings of a human girl? What I might think of this entire situation? Of vampires, and hunters, and men who deem themselves greater than the will of a God that had forsaken them so long ago?”
And her anger rose now, quicker than anything he could have imagined. It washed over him for a moment as he was deterred from her, shocked at how silently it seemed to have crept into the night. Inside of the house, he could feel his progeny stir as well. Eric could sense each and every single atom of his maker’s will shift as the woman stared at him, finally. Finally.
“To berate me for my musings of this world? Of your world? I’d gotten enough of that from your offspring, thank you. You come out here and you ask me these questions as though you yourself do not already know the answers. Know what it is that I will say. Would you hear me say it, then?”
Her body faced his, her anger, too, stared at him now. “That when you forgave Hugo for his human folly it seemed more that you were chiding a child for not sharing its toys? That it angered me that you regarded so little of your own safety you would forgive someone because they were loved by another, who you held close to you. Do you truly regard yourself so little?”
“That is not why—”
“No, of course it isn’t. Right? You’d forgiven him because it was meaningless, wasn’t it? To fight and bicker and extend the situation more than it should have gone on. To bring more bloodshed into this house and your home and among people you swore to protect. You forgave Hugo because you are tired, and you cannot bear the thought of bringing a single ounce more of heartache into this world than you already have.”
A beat passed between them, and she turned from him.
A frustrated sigh escaped her. Thin hands came up to squeeze at the bridge of her nose, eyes shut as she tried to suppress the oncoming migraine. She didn’t feel the movement in the air when Godric left, but she knew when Eric took his place.
“You shouldn’t have brought me here.” Her words were defeated.
Eric’s words greeted her angrily. “You’re supposed to help. Not make him worse.”
“Eric!” Another voice called out to the man in front of her, charging up to him from the house to the grass where they stood.
“Not now, Miss Stackhouse. I’m not in the mood.”
“Oh, you better get in the mood after all you’ve made me do. Why is it that—”
“Not,” his face turned to the waitress, his voice growled. “Now.”
But Sookie Stackhouse wasn’t a woman easily deterred. She was a woman in customer service, and more so, the other woman mused, she was all too familiar with vampires and their mood swings. She made to leave, but Eric Northman grabbed onto her arm and forced her to stay. “What did he say?”
“Weren’t you listening?” The woman shot back. “Don’t you have a connection to him that you can tap into, can’t you hear his thoughts?”
“I can’t.” Eric supplied after a moment of silence, and both women looked at him with a mixture of shock and curiosity. “He shuts me out when he’s with you.”
“Godric?” Sookie asked after a moment’s breath passed. “But why would he do that, he’s your maker isn’t he? What’s going on here?”
“It seems the issue Mister Northman hired you for stemmed rather more deeply than simply locating his maker.” The woman stares into the wide eyes of the vampire-Viking. “Your maker is found now, but a part of him is still missing, isn’t it?”
“She’s like you.” Eric turned to the waitress, as he explained the other woman’s presence here.
“I’m a development fault,” the woman seethed in reply. “A malfunction in genetic code. I’m not like her.”
“My informant assured me that you were helpful.” Eric shot back, refusing to take defeat as the final outcome. “We will stay here until the end of days if that’s what it takes.”
“Your informant was wrong!” The woman leaned in closer, hoping to whichever god that was listening that no other vampire could hear her. “The vampire I helped already wanted to live, it needed a sign. It needed something to grab onto, a rope, a buoy—a thought. I’m not a miracle worker, Eric Northman, my abilities cannot save a man who believes he is the incarnation of sin.”
“All this is about Godric?” Sookie asked as she stepped closer. The three of them stood now in a ring, an inner circle of people too desperate to accept their truths. That Eric was losing the only part of his family he’d had left, that Sookie was a part of something bigger than she’d originally thought—and the other woman, that she was more than a simple girl with kind words to tell strangers. “What’s wrong with him? He wants to die?”
“He’s succumbing to a fate he believes is befit for a thing like him.” The woman said, her eyes never leaving the ones of the vampire still clutching onto her. “All those years of grief have built the foundation of a thing that cannot be toppled, Eric Northman, by what I possess.”
“You have the ability to bring vampires closer to their human state—something that many a vampire have been searching for for longer than your human history dates back to. If you don’t help me, you can be assured that I will spread this knowledge to every line of communication among my networks, and I will sell you to the highest bidder.”
The woman scoffed at him, and he tightened his grasp on her arm. “You wouldn’t do that.”
“No?” He mused. “And why’s that?”
“You wouldn’t do that,” she mused again, and her words floated to him like something on a dream. Something like water rushed, like smoke inhaled through a chimney passage, there was a warmth that fluttered across the open air between them that caressed him in a way he had not felt since ages ago. The open fire, the roast of a meal hunted, there was laughter in her eyes he had remembered seeing in his mother’s, a scream of joy filtered through there, too, jovial like a baby’s laugh. He had a sister once, for some odd reason, he remembers her now. “That is not the man you are.”
And then a wolf’s howl. A scratching of claws against silver—and death rushes over him.
He was quick to retract his hand from where it gripped her. Quicker, still, to break his eyes from hers. Fuck, he thought. Fuck!
Sookie witnessed this all. Her mind was a soft hum between the vampire she could not hear, and the woman whose mind sounded as though the soft hum of a jewelry box never ceased its song. There were hummingbirds and the sound of rain that pelted through her thoughts, Sookie wondered, if all that calm was a front for something far more sinister. Without a thought she reached forward to touch the woman’s skin, and without thought her mind flashed with images of ruins and ash. A striking image of a city burned, skin singed to the bare bones of grief and haunt, a ghost fluttered there from her to hers, and Sookie’s mind far more than the shrapnel of war was now laced with the torment of what came after. The woman before her was a survivor of all things she had not witnessed.
Sookie saw for most parts images of blood, teeth sunken into tender flesh, vampires who hated the taste of blood and craved the heartbeat of it along their teeth. Images flashed, of vampires ripping their own fangs out, images flashed, of humans hanging from dead trees linked to more dead roots to more dead soil. Sookie hunched over, her body turned as the contents of her stomach wretched itself up through her body and onto the grass behind her.
And the woman looked on, as the empath reached her capacity, and the vampire-Viking was made afraid. She turned away from them with a sigh, and her eyes grew heavy as she began her walk from them.
“You should not have brought me here to him, Viking.”
But Godric found her later. And he stood behind the threshold of her now opened hotel room door. And she stared at him for a moment before her head turned towards the room in an inviting gesture.
For a longer moment than what she would have normally allowed, the two of them stood in the room alone together as silence pressed on. It had been some time since they had come from his home since she had showered off the blood and the gore since they had had to come to terms with what had happened.
“I came to see that you were alright.” Godric confessed, and she stayed silent as his words littered the space between them.
“I am glad that you were unharmed during the attack.”
“It was an unfortunate matter, I should have taken it into consideration.”
“I fear my faith in humankind was somewhat miscalculated.”
A pause. Were she sub-human, perhaps she would have heard the smallest intake of a breath he did not need.
And then—
“Tell me what you saw.”
“Did Eric tell you why I was brought here?” She asked finally, snapping at him. Or to him. She didn’t know. Her arms came to hold her, and her eyes stared at him in anger. He knew now, that it was not directed at him. He knew now that for all the insight she had, she could not understand herself half as much as the way her abilities allowed her to understand others.
“He did.” He said. “Tell me what you saw.”
And her eyes shut in pain. She remembered now what had happened at the house. The argument, then she had went inside. Sookie followed after, then Eric. They had gone back to what they had been doing, and she was left wondering all the things she wishes she could not. There was so much hurt in a single room, and the smells of the pasts of all the vampires that littered around her almost made her dizzy. She could smell their desperation in the air. And then something else overtook it.
A loud beeping, a yell. Then an explosion.
Godric’s body was over hers in an instant. Quicker than she could have thought he’d shelter her, his eyes boring into hers, his body hit with the shrapnel and splinters of wood and house foundation. He grunted once, then twice as metal sunk into his body. It didn’t hurt him, she didn’t think. But there was a twinge of discomfort that hit him at the intrusion of foreign material into his body.
He lifted himself off from her the moment the explosion and its aftermath ended. He made sure she was alright, and then he left to lick the wounds of his home.
“How many died?” She asked him as they stood in the hotel now, hours later.
“Too many.”
“How many are wounded?”
“Tell me what you saw.”
“A boy!” she snapped at him eventually. Her arms tightened around her again.
Her mind brought forth the image he requested. Of a boy standing in the midst of a desolated living room, walls racked with blood dripping and smothered, she could smell and taste it in the air. An explosion of death, of something claiming life, of a thing used to destroy all that was left of a people who mocked it.
“A boy standing there alone,” because he was alone. Godric’s vision stood out to her as she shut her eyes, and she saw him taking note of all the destruction that had befallen his home. “You looked around like it was the first battle you had ever fought, a sorrowful madness, empty grief, the shell of a house haunted.” He moved through the area like he had seen the same image a thousand times before, and none at all. She watched him as he had walked over broken planks and splattered bodies. “You stood there like the brokenness of that home was your birthright.”
And those words in particular punched him in his chest. In his gut, somewhere, something dropped to its knees and wept. “Like there was nothing else you were owed but this.”
Were he human, perhaps, he would have missed the beginning of her tears. “Why do you believe that your ending must be ill-defined?”
“There is no other way to make amends for the wrong I have caused.”
“You are not only the sum of the wrong you had done!”
A pause haltered their conversation. A whisper of a thing that had been long dead and buried resurfaced between them now. But she would not give in so easily.
“Pale lips,” she whispered. “Blue fingernails, the red beneath your eyes. Even to a passer-by, it’s evident you have been mistreating your body. Eric told me you refused to feed. How long has it been? Dawn has come and your eyes droop and yet here you are, being verbally abused by a human girl who’s seen less than a fraction of your lifetime. How often do you forego sleep as well?”
He smiled at that. Yes, he thought. Less than a fraction but with an amount of grief to challenge my own.
He watches her as she moves to grab the remote. Shutting the sun-tight blinds to protect him from the sun yawning. Even in her anger, the thought of him. His eyes moved to her, watching her body as she commanded it, from her legs to her arms, to the movement of her eyebrows to her mouth. Everything about her enchanted him forward, and he heeded the command of his heart to grow closer to her. She noticed too late, and he was reaching out to hold her face in his hands.
“Why is it that you care so much?” His head tilted in curiosity. Maybe he wanted to know if it was because of what she was, maybe he would have accepted any lie she told him.
“Eric brought me here to help you.”
“But why does your failure to do so upset you this much?”
His words were like a punch and a kiss dancing. Rare was the occasion brought that she failed. Rarer even still was the comfort that failure was okay.
Her hands lifted to hold onto his wrists, and her head fell forward as tears threatened to spill. A lump formed in her throat, and she wondered how she could tell him of all the things her abilities allowed her to see in him. Instead, her hands lifted to trace along the tattoos of his chest. Along his collarbone, she traced the Roman-like patterns. A protection circle around his throat. Chief, warrior, nobleman. Perhaps. Perhaps if they had more time, she could have asked him about it. Perhaps if they had more time, she could have known him more.
Soft hands lifted and moved, he stood back from her for a moment after she tugged at his sweater, and he held her gaze as he lifted it over his head. There was something between them merging, something forming and twisting like a glob of material in space, forming to the vibrations of the universe around it. He dropped the cloth to the ground, he stepped closer to her. She touched the tattoo along his arms, those ancient words on his right one, palm laying flat and circling, those water-shaped markings of his left one.
He held her close as she pushed her chest to his. Skin barely meeting skin. Her hands trailed down the expanse of his spine, a thrill rushed through him, nails raking softly from the top of the serpent to the bottom, at the base of his spine and the small of his back—where she scratched up and held her hand to the brand on his shoulder. A slave’s marking. A deed of having had been owned. There was no escaping all the past selves of himself he had been, beneath the microscope of her hand.
“Tell me what you see.”
His voice was begging now. She could not resist it.
“Too much,” her words whispered against the skin of his throat. “I wish we had time.”
“We have time.” He lied.
“Do you swear?”
And she wondered when it was that things between them had changed. Perhaps somewhere between the first or last insult she had spewed at his face. Perhaps, maybe even, between the first and second kind act. When she had saved him in the church—when he had saved her in his home. There was a poetry to that, that in the end Death was still an angel of God. Still in service to the being that had created them both.
“Godric?”
“Yes?”
“You deserved a kinder world.”

pairing: lorenzo berkshire x fem!slytherin!reader
genre: fluff, sweetheart enzo, brief suggestive content, enzo is a big softie basically
summary: in a world filled with men, there’s lorenzo berkshire, a sweetheart and gentleman
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lorenzo Berkshire was a sweetheart.
Everybody knew that the down to earth Slytherin couldn’t hurt a fly even if he wanted to, and weirdly did not fit the stereotypical mean Slytherin persona despite hanging with Draco and his friends.
In fact, a lot of things that Lorenzo did were out of the ordinary for his crowd of people. Whenever Draco would pull a first year by their backpacks so their bodies would fling back, Lorenzo always muttered an apology after, offering the first year a cookie the next day. It was just who he was; he was a sweet boy, and that often meant he was also very clueless.
Sure, he was smart in his classes, but in everything else? Lorenzo was practically the virgin of all virgins.
“Her eyes are up here Enzo,” Pansy teased, watching as Lorenzo’s eyes finally shifted off your chest to look at Pansy in the eyes.
“Huh?”
“Well I know they’re nice,” you tease further, “but it’s rude to stare, y’know.”
“Oh,” Lorenzo’s eyebrows furrow, clearly confused. He’s either great at playing the dumb role or he genuinely has no idea what you and Pansy are inciting.
“What do you mean?” Lorenzo then moves his hand over to touch the gold colored necklace on your neck. “I was just looking at the new necklace you got. It’s nice.”
Oh. You didn’t think anyone would notice your new necklace. You bought it over the holidays when you went back home with your family, and had just started wearing it now.
“Thanks Enzo,” you say, placing a kiss on his cheek. He pulls back flustered, but he mutters a you’re welcome under his breath.
“LO BOY!” Lorenzo is quickly pulled into a headlock by no other than Draco Malfoy, who seems to find his friend struggling hilariously funny. “Oh what’s wrong Lo? Got your head in a knot?”
“Boys.” You and Pansy mutter, rolling your eyes as you both get up from your seats, heading to the much more quiet Great Hall.
- - -
The next time you see Lorenzo is in your Potions class. He’s on the left of you, and you’re almost falling asleep at the boring lecture of your professor. He always seem to talk more than actually teach how to mix potions.
“Pssst,” Lorenzo mutters to your partner as he hands her a slip of paper. “Be a peach and pass it to Y/N?”
Your partner, who has developed a little crush on Lorenzo only blushes, accepting the piece of paper and tapping you on the shoulder.
“Here,” she says, “it’s from Lorenzo.”
Your eyebrows quirk up, slowly unfolding the crinkled paper.
Your hair is pretty today
You bite your lip, trying to suppress a smile. Lorenzo just knew how to swoon a girl over, didn’t he? He doesn’t even have to try and your knees would still feel weak.
So my hair isn’t pretty on other days?
You scribble down, passing it back to your partner who passes it to Lorenzo.
His eyes grow wide when he reads it, opting to shake his head quickly.
“Not what I meant,” Lorenzo mouths.
“I know,” you mouth back, giving him a smirk. “Thank you Enzo.”
And you both end up more pink than the potions that were made in class that day.
- - -
“What do you even do in your free time?” Theodore asks, poking Lorenzo’s cheek repeatedly to annoy him. “Like read?”
“Like read?” Lorenzo mimics back. “Yes, I read. You should too Teddy, it’d be good for you.”
Theodore rolls his eyes, “I don’t need to read. And don’t call me Teddy.”
When you arrive in the dining hall, Theodore and Lorenzo already make a space for you to sit in between them. Usually, Pansy and Draco would be sitting across from the three of you, but today, they were off doing Godric knows what.
“Pans and Draco not here today?” Lorenzo asks, still focusing on the assignment he was finishing up before dinner ends.
“Nope,” you say, popping the p. “No idea what they’re doing.”
“Oh,” Theodore chuckles, “I have a few ideas.”
That makes the two of you burst out laughing, and Lorenzo finally looks up from his paper.
“What?” He asks. “What’s so funny?”
“Oh Enzo,” Theodore places a hand on his friend’s back, “never change.”
Lorenzo rolls his eyes, shrugging Theodore’s hand off. “Whatever that means.”
When Theodore finally heads off to the Slytherin common room, you and Lorenzo are left alone, the small conversations of the other students surrounds the two of you.
“Working hard on that assignment,” you say quietly to Lorenzo, bringing up your hand to pull a few strings of hair that were poking his eyes.
“Well someone’s gotta be the smart one in our friend group,” he says teasingly.
“Oh, so you’re saying I’m not smart?” Your hands start to wander, coming to each of Lorenzo’s sides to tickle him. He was especially ticklish around his abdomen.
“H-hey! Stop that!” He laughs, pushing your hands away. “Okay okay, we’re both the smart ones.”
“And Pansy,” you add.
“And Pansy.”
- - -
When you walked out to the lake that sat across from the Slytherin common room, you didn’t expect to find Lorenzo feeding the ducks. He was crouching, softly throwing a few pieces of crushed up bread at the ducks that now surrounded him.
“What are you doing Lo?” You ask, walking beside him.
“Not too loud,” Lorenzo says, “you’ll scare them away.”
He continues doing what he does before he runs all out, deciding to finally turn to you and throw an arm around your shoulder. “Evening.”
“Evening Enzo,” you say, pressing a kiss to his cheek. It was out of habit, and you did it regularly, but it didn’t stop Lorenzo from blushing every time it happened.
“I was feeding the ducks,” he explains, although it was pretty clear what he was doing. “I like them, they’re nice and pretty. Draco sometimes throws rocks at them, so it’s kind of my way of apologizing for him.”
You ruffle Lorenzo’s hair slightly, giving him a small kiss on the cheek. “Oh Enzo, you sweetheart.” But he doesn’t hear you, instead, choosing to admire the scenery of the lake.
- - -
“You know what’d be funny?” Mattheo says, already laughing before he could get out the rest of his sentence. “If we pied the girls. Pansy and Y/N.”
Lorenzo’s ears perk up at this, but he keeps quiet. Why was his friends always looking to get into trouble?
“They’d totally kill us,” Theodore comments.
“That’s why we have to do it.”
The boys had already gotten two pies and their plan figured out before Lorenzo could stop them. He watched as they hide it behind their backs, approaching you and Pansy who were both engrossed in your conservation.
“Wait,” Lorenzo mumbles, quickly following his group of friends. When he sees their hand from their back move as they speak to you and Pansy, he steps in front of the two of you, getting hit straight in the face with the two pies.
“Huh..” Lorenzo says, wiping away the whipped cream that was covering his eyes. “Key lime.”
“Enzo,” you say, knowing that this was probably one of Mattheo or Draco’s dumb ideas again. “You guys apologize to Lorenzo right now.”
The three boys sigh defeatedly, muttering a quiet sorry to their brunette friend who’s still wiping the whipped cream from his face.
“Why’d you do that Enzo?” You ask him as the two of you sat down on the grass. You’d finally got all the whipped cream off his face with a towel, and although Enzo won’t admit it, he was kind of grateful he did end up getting pied. After all, a pretty girl was cleaning him up after all, and not just any pretty girl, his close friend.
“Cause you’re too pretty to get pied.” He shrugs, which makes you smirk.
“Too pretty?”
“Well yeah,”
You laugh at Lorenzo’s honesty, and finally, you lean in to give him a kiss on the lips instead of the side of his cheek.
“Did you just-”
“Shh,” you say, grabbing ahold of his hand. “Just let me appreciate you right now. In a world full of just men, you’re a gentleman Enzo.”
And Lorenzo only smiles, knowing he’s finally got the girl of his dreams.

✰  ✰  ✰
“(Y/N), you’ve got to get out of bed at some point.” Hermione said. She was sitting on the side of your bed while you laid fully wrapped under the covers. Hermione gently tugged the blanket down from your chin, but you whined a little in protest.
“‘Mione, I seriously can’t do this yet.”
Theo, your boyfriend of over a year had broken up with you only a few short days ago. You’d been in bed ever since, heartbroken over what could have been.
“(Y/N), I know you’re upset, but you have to get up. I can’t let you live the rest of your life in bed! Don’t you know how badly your bum would hurt from laying all of your life?” Hermione joked.
A small smile grew on your lips. “Yeah, that would be pretty tragic. I have too nice of a butt to let that happen.”
Hermione laughed. “There she is! I’ve missed your little jokes. Ron and Harry have become quite boring without you around. I think they’re worried about you.”
You groaned. “Nooo. I hate when people worry about me. It’s just so awkward when I have to be like ‘I’m fine’, ‘no really, I’m fine’.”
Hermione shrugged. “Well, are you?”
You sighed, pulling the covers down from your chin. You looked up at her, a forlorn look on your face. “Definitely not, but I suppose you’re right. I don’t want to be stuck in here for the rest of my life. I just, I just don’t think I can handle seeing him right now.”
Hermione looked at you sadly. “I know. I hate seeing you so upset like this. God, what I would do to put a hex on that boy. He’s quite deserving of it, I would say. Maybe a rat’s tail, or a snake tongue.”
You giggled and sat up in bed. “Or how about we make him bald, or worse, blonde.”
Hermione laughed at that. “Oh, Godric, then we’d have another Draco running around. I don’t think I could handle that.”
“Me either,” you laughed. Slowly, your smile dropped. “I just hate him. Well, no, I don’t hate him. And I hate that! I hate that even after breaking my heart I still love him and long for him.”
Hermione sighed, “I’m sorry, (Y/N/N), I wish I could say something or do something to make this better, I just really don’t know what.”
You shrugged, “yeah, it is what it is. It’s not your fault he’s an ass.”
She chuckled. “So, what do you say? You wanna try to get down to the great hall before dinner starts? I’m sure the guys would like to see you again.”
You thought it over for a minute. You really had missed your friends. Other than Hermione, you’d ostracized yourself from everyone just to avoid Theo.
But were you really ready to see him again? You didn’t think you would ever be ready to see him again.
“You know what,” you stated, “I am gonna go to dinner tonight. And I’m gonna ignore him and see my friends who I’ve missed and ignore the hell out of him because he’s an ass and why should I be the one who has to stay in bed all day?”
“Woohoo!” Hermione cheered. “You’re amazing, let’s get you showered and dressed. I hate to say it, but if you’re gonna get back into the world, you need to wash your hair.”
You chuckled as you picked up a piece of hair to inspect it. “Yeah, okay. Shower first, look really pretty, eat dinner, come back. Piece of cake.”
You pushed the covers off of you as Hermione stood from the bed.
She said, “I’m gonna grab your clothes, so just get in the shower. We shouldn’t be too late to dinner that way.”
You nodded and headed to the bathroom. You were gonna go in there, socialize with your friends, reassure them you were fine, and everything would go back to normal. You hoped.
✰  ✰  ✰
“(Y/N)!” Ginny shouted as you and Hermione made it to the Gryffindor table. She stood up from her seat and pulled you right into a hug.
Releasing the breath you didn’t know you were holding, you smiled and held her even tighter in the hug. Ginny was an amazing friend to you. She had tried her best to see you, but you didn’t let anyone in. Only Hermione since she shared the room with you.
Pulling away, Ginny dragged you to sit down next to her. Hermione followed suit and sat on the other side of you. “Oh, we’ve missed you so much, (Y/N/N). We’ve all been so worried about you, haven’t we?”
Harry and Ron sat across from you. They both nodded their heads, agreeing with Ginny.
“Yeah, what an ass,” Ron scoffed. “Honestly, someone needs to knock that bloke down from his high horse. He doesn’t know what he’s missing, (Y/N/N).”
“Yeah,” Harry replied as he pushed some mashed potatoes in his mouth. “Theodore is a walking red flag. I for one am not sorry for him. He lost a good girl and he’s gonna regret what he’s done.”
You smiled at them. “Yeah, I am pretty awesome. Thanks guys.”
They chuckled and continued eating. Merlin knows those two could eat an entire quidditch field full of food.
“Ahem,” a throat cleared from behind you.
Turning around, you saw Enzo standing there sheepishly.
“Uh,” he stuttered, “hey, (Y/N).”
“Oh,” you said. “Uh, hi Enzo. Do you need something?” You couldn’t hide the crack in your voice. Damn it.
Enzo was probably your favorite of Theo's friends. He was always the one you had most in common with, and therefore connected with pretty easily. You’d never hung out one on one, so you couldn’t really say he was your friend.
“I-no I don’t need something, per say. I just wanted to talk to you. Alone, if, uh, that’s alright.”
You looked back at your friends, unsure if you should talk with him or not. They all seemed to be the same amount of weary as you were, but you were intrigued.
“I don’t really want to talk to Theo, if that’s what this is.”
Enzo shook his head. “No! Ahem, no. I wanted to talk to you. To, uh, apologize kind of? I don’t know. It’s fine if you don’t wanna talk to me, this was silly, I’m sorry-“
“It’s fine, Enzo,” you cut off his rambling. “I’ll speak with you.” You looked back at your friends as you stood up from the table. “I’ll be right back.”
They nodded their heads as you let Enzo lead you away from the table and out the door.
Once you two stood out in the hallway, Enzo kind of just shuffled his feet around, almost as if he was shying away from talking to you.
“Am I supposed to say something first?” You questioned, crossing your arms over your chest.
“No, sorry,” he said as he rubbed the back of his neck. “I just feel a little awkward. I know what happened between you and Theo, but I guess I just hoped that didn’t mean we couldn’t be friends anymore.”
Your eyes softened a little at his confession. Enzo’s cheeks blushed a little as you stared at him.
You sighed. You and Enzo really had been good friends, and you weren’t exactly keen on losing his friendship.
“I mean,” he continued, “you’re the only one who doesn’t make fun of my poetry, you’re the one I go to when I want to talk about books or get recommendations from, and I just would hate to lose our friendship just because I’m friends with Theo as well.”
Your heart melted. “Enzo, of course I still want to be friends with you. I will admit, I was a little nervous you wouldn’t want to talk to me anymore after Theo broke up with me. I really enjoy being your friend.”
Enzo smiled in relief. “Oh good. I thought this would be more awkward and a little bit more sad than how it’s actually going.”
You giggled. “Thank god. I don’t know what I would have done if I just had a real breakup as well as a friendship breakup.”
Enzo smiled awkwardly. “Yeah, I am really sorry about that. I don’t know why he would ever break up with you in the first place. You’re so kind, and I thought you brought the best out in him.”
You forced an awkward smile. You really did not want to be talking about Theo right now, especially not about how you made him a better person.
Before you could reply, a voice yelled out from behind you.
“Oi!”
Turning around, you could see Theo storming up towards you and Enzo.
“What the fuck, mate?” Theo huffed as he got in between you and Enzo.
“Woah!” You shouted, backing up as Theo got up into Enzo’s face.  “Theo, what are you doing?”
He ignored you and kept talking to Enzo. “Are you hitting on my girlfriend? Right after all the shit we just went through?”
“What?” Enzo squeaked. “I’m not hitting on her, I was just talking to her.”
You were pissed. Your fists balled up at your sides as you stomped up to Theo. You grabbed onto his shoulder and yanked him away from Enzo. Theo didn’t see it coming, so he stumbled and fell back a couple of steps.
“Get the hell away from him,” you growled. “And what the fuck is wrong with you, Theodore?”
You got between Theo and Enzo, pushing your finger into your ex-boyfriend’s chest accusingly.
“First,” you said, “you break up with me, break my heart, and then you have the fucking nerve to come up here all righteous and accuse Enzo of whatever the fuck you said, all while calling me your girlfriend when you’re the asshole who broke up with me!”
You glared at Theo, watching as his anger turned soft. “I am not your girlfriend anymore, Theodore Nott. You’re the one who made that happen, so you have no fucking right to come up in my conversations acting like I owe you anything.”
“(Y/N),” he softly said. “I… I’m sorry. You’re right, I shouldn’t have come out here all crazy. I just, I hate seeing you with anyone else, even if it’s one of my friends.”
He turned to talk to Enzo, “I’m sorry, mate. Will you give us a few minutes?”
Enzo nodded his head and gave you an awkward smile before heading back into the dining hall.
You huffed, settling down a little as you stared at Theo.
He looked tired. His eyes had circles underneath them, and his cheeks didn’t have their usual flush to them. He was as gorgeous as ever, but he looked drained.
“You don’t look so good,” you pointed out, trying to sound nonchalant.
Theo frowned and softly said, “neither do you.”
Your lips pulled tight in a frown. Theo didn’t need to know how much he had affected you with the breakup.
You sighed, “what are you doing, Theo?”
He shrugged and put his hands in his pockets awkwardly. “I, uh, I’m not really sure. I just didn’t like seeing you with Enzo.”
“Why? You broke up with me.”
Theo huffed, “I don’t know. I just don’t like seeing you with anyone else. It still feels like I’m supposed to be there. Like I’m supposed to be the one with you. I miss you.”
You shook your head as hurt started to creep back into your heart. “Don’t say things like that to me, Theo. Not after what you did. I loved you, and you broke up with me out of nowhere for no good reason, either.”
“I’m sorry,” he tried to reach for you, but you shrugged off his hand. “I don’t know why I did what I did. I just know that I regret it like crazy. I want to be with you, (Y/N). I’ve always wanted to be with you, I was stupid to let you go. Can you forgive me?”
Your lips pulled tight. “Theo, I can’t just get back with you like this.” You said. “I don’t trust you anymore. You broke my heart, and broke my trust. You gave me no reason for the breakup, so who’s to say it won’t happen right after we get back together?”
He shook his head. “Dolcezza, no. I won’t do that to you, not again. What can I do to prove this to you?”
You shrugged. “I don’t know. I can’t get back with you. Not like this, and not so soon. You really hurt me, Theo.”
“Well, what if we try being friends at least?” He suggested.
“You wanna be my friend?”
“No,” he said immediately. “But I’ll settle for being your friend for as long as it takes to win you back.”
Your heart warmed at what he had said. Maybe you could try being friends with him. He did really hurt you, but you’d be lying if you said you didn’t miss him.
“Okay,” you decided, “I’ll give you a chance to be my friend. Don’t hurt me again, Theodore, or I’ll get Ginny on you.”
He chuckled. “Don’t worry, darling, I’m gonna do whatever it takes to get my baby back. I can promise you that.”

You're unbelievable (derogatory) | James Potter
Tumblr media
Pairing: James Potter x Fem!Reader
Word Count: 5.3k
Summary: You're best friends with James, but since his new relationship with Lily, you find yourself standing on the side more often than not.
Your friendship with James breaks when he has to choose between you or Lily, and it's only after the damage is done that he realizes the consequences of his actions.
Note: Lily's kind of a not cool in this fic. Not proofread, mistakes (grammar and maybe continuity because I rewrote the middle from memory) Time lines are wrong, howarts is endless.
_______________________
“James Potter, you’re unbelievable!” You exclaimed, and if not for the widest grin ever plastered on you face, those words could hold an entirely different meaning. You gave James a tight side hug while you clutched your precious gift to your chest.
“Well, you better believe it darling,” Sirius appeared on your left. “Prongs made us stand in line for that signed copy for eight hours. EIGHT HOURS,” he complained and shook James back and forth by his shirt collar.
“And not to mention, he woke us up at 2 o’clock in the morning for that,” Peter happily reminded him, and Sirius wailed at the memory and dramatically dropped to his knees. You stumbled back and James was quick to hold you steadily.
“Oh, quit it with the theatrics,” Remus mused, and he pulled Sirius up from the floor where he had slouched his entire weight against your legs. “It wasn’t that bad.”
Sirius huffed. “For you maybe. Because you secretly wanted to get your book signed too,” he accused Remus. Remus sheepishly shrugged.
James pressed a kiss to your temple, and you melted inside. “Happy birthday, love,” he whispered with a fond smile, and you bashfully looked away.
“Thanks,” you muttered awkwardly. Godric, you despised the attention that birthdays bring along.
“On that note, I’m heading towards the library,” you excused yourself. “But thank you guys so much for getting that book for me, I love you guys so much,” you said and blew them a kiss as you stepped backwards to the door.
“Hold on,” James frowned. “We’re not celebrating?”
“Uh, no I have to work on our Potions assignment.”
“Oh. Well, let me walk you to the library, yeah?” James offered, but you had an inkling feeling that it wasn’t really a question.
You laughed and pulled a face at him. “I can’t stop you anyways, can I? You’re an absolute menace, Potter.”
“I’m just trying to spend the day together.” James wrapped an arm around you and guided you towards the door.
“You know, the day on which the world has been blessed with your birth. And just as it was always meant to be, might I add, because look at where this led, such a perfectly beautiful day to celebrate.” He winked.
“Today is a wonderful day,” you hummed in agreement. “But you know I was supposed to be born late April, not March. So not really ‘as it was always meant to be’ at all,” you pointed out.
James rolled his eyes. “Uh, yes it was. Otherwise, we would’ve never met at the hospital and become bestest friends.”
“That’s not even correct gramm-”
“Besides, didn’t see you much today,” James unbotherdly continued.
You shook your head in amusement. “Come along then,” you pretended to relent in a joking manner. James was already pulling you along anyway.
You looked back at the rest of the marauders. “You guys also coming?”
You got an unenthusiastic hum from Peter and nothing from Remus, who was too deep in his book to have heard you. You looked at Sirius.
“Darling, I love you, but that’s six flights of stairs,” Sirius laughed, and he settled in on the sofa.
You gasped in fake horror. “So, is that the limit of your love for me?” You sniffed and pretended to wipe away a tear. “I guess-, I guess that’s it then. We’re just not meant to be,” you sighed.
“I know, darling. And I’m sorry. Just know, it’s not you, it’s me,” Sirius solemnly agreed.
You opened your mouth to continue your devastating-sad-ending-love-story when James, who had felt strangely annoyed at Sirius, impatiently grabbed your hand and pulled you out the door.
You enjoyed the feeling of walking hand in hand with James, even though it was short-lived. He let go of your hand as soon as he realized he was still holding it, and you two walked next to each other in a comfortable silence. Again, short-lived.
“I swear, one of these days, Lily might give me a chance. She smiled at me yesterday after supper, you know.” James happily bragged, eyes in a dreamy haze, no doubt imagining Lily.
You peered up at him and quietly admired his blissed look. It may never be directed towards you but seeing him so happy really made you glad and all warm inside.
Not that you’d ever let him know that.
Instead, you snorted at his words, tiptoed, and slung an arm across his broad shoulders. “In your dreams, maybe,” you sassed at him. James wanted to huff at your reply, but at your struggle to reach his other shoulder, he couldn’t help but laugh wholeheartedly, and he wrapped his arms around your shoulder instead.
“You’ve got to stop growing, James,” you protested and ducked out from under his arm.
“Quite the opposite actually, perhaps you should start,” he mocked you and you reached out to shove him but he put a step back out of the way fluently and then smoothly pulled back his shoulder just in time when you tried to shove him again. “So predictable,” he tsked. You opted to stick out your tongue instead.
“So,” James started. You hummed in reply. “Mum’s asking if you’re spending Easter with us again,” he casually mentioned.
“Oh really, Euphemia is asking me huh,” you teased him.
James looked away embarrassedly.
“Hm, not sure,” you shrugged nonchalantly. “Think I’m gonna be sort of preoccupied with my cousins from Ireland,” you looked at him through the corner of your eyes and caught his disappointed expression. A grin grew on your face like that of a Cheshire cat and you nudged him again.
“Oh, come on James, I’m kidding, you know. I’ve literally never not spent Easter with you. Besides, I live right across the street, James. I can literally come over any time, even if my cousins visit.”
“Yeah, but I meant like stay over at my house for the whole holiday,” James pouted. You glanced at him and smiled fondly. “Well, again; I live right across the street. So I guess I can also just go and visit my cousins at my house any time.”
You finally reached the bottom of the staircases and stopped mid-step. “Bloody hell, I forgot my books.”
You shot James a sheepish smile. “Sorry, I just have to go back up real quick, but it won’t be long at all-.”
“I’m right behind you, love.”
“You can’t be serious,” you gaped at him.
James was beaming. Sirius and Remus’ jaws were slacked on the floor and Peter frowned as if he was trying to comprehend James’ statement.
“She agreed to a date!?” Sirius shrieked out. “But-,” Sirius stammered and he let his eyes fall onto you for a split second. It was very quiet for a moment while all of you processed this news.
“Well, I’ll be damned, Prongs,” you grinned up at him. “Not such a far-fetched idea after all.” You smiled encouragingly at him and he shot you a grateful look.
“Congrats,” you nudged him, and that seemed to break the rest of the marauders out of it, all congratulating and offering date ideas.
You zoned out for a moment. A bitter-sweet taste in your mouth. You we’re thrilled for James. You knew how much she meant to him. But that little piece of hope that you had unconsciously clung onto, made the news tough to take.
Regardless, you were just happy to have James in your life. He was your best friend, and you would support him, no matter what. Because you knew he’d do the same for you.
“When’s the date?” you curiously asked.
James scratched his head. “Uh, next week, Friday night.”
“Wait, Friday when you were going to take me to see the blue crescent moon?” you deadpanned.
“I’ll take you to the next one, I promise,” James solemnly swore and he put his hand on his heart.
You huffed in disappointment but quickly turned around to face Remus with a sweet smile. “Remus, my best friend,” you started, and instantly got pulled back by James who wore a pout on his face.
“Wait, it was supposed to be a you and me thing,” he whined while he tugged you back into his side. You stuck your tongue out and ruffled his hair.
“You’re busy, and the next blue moon is going to be a full moon, so we’ll be with Remus,” you pointed out. “And after that, it’ll be another two years until the next.” Then you skipped back over to Remus.
James hummed in thought. He knew you were right. “Fine,” he reluctantly said. “But I’m taking you to watch the passing comet next month,” he bargained.
You stuck out your hand with a laugh. “Deal,” you grinned.
“It’s a promise,” James confirmed.
It became clear to you that you might have overestimated your own importance to James after he and Lily officially started dating.
Your eyes were searching for James, and you decided to confront him when you spotted him.
“James!” You ran to catch up to him. You smiled at Lily with a small wave. “Lily,” you acknowledged her. “Can I borrow him for a moment?” You asked her. She shrugged and waved her hand in a discarding manner, “of course.”
“Hey uh, you didn’t show up yesterday, just checking in?” you asked James in concern when Lily was out of reach.
James mind blanked for a moment. He was racking his brain about ‘yesterday’ and his eyes grew wide when realization hit him. “Bloody hell, I completely forgot!” He exclaimed.
“Yeah,” you laughed, relieved that he was alright and had just forgotten about it.
“Well you didn’t show up in the astronomy tower so I tried looking for you, but I couldn’t find you. I asked Sirius for the map, but can you believe it? He said he’d lost it.”
You chuckled when you recalled his apologetic expression and completely missed the way James shut his eyes and pinched his nose in guilt.
“I’m so sorry,” James said. He pulled you into a hug.
“Eh, don’t worry about it, Sirius joined me to watch the comet pass by. Wasn’t that impressive, but it did look like a falling star so I guess I made a wish, and-”
“Can have him back now?” Lily’s voice came from behind him, and he quickly released you. “Yeah, of course,” you rushed to say, but she had already grabbed him by the arm and led him away.
James looked back at you and mouthed a ‘sorry’ at you. You shook your head dismissively and raised your thumbs up.
It was only during the next missed hangout, two weeks later, that you found out he forgot because he’d been with Lily instead.
Peter had seen you off to find James, and had watched you return three hours later, a sad look on your face.
“Not again,” he’d groaned and slipped up. You couldn’t be angry at James because you realized that he was just putting effort into his new relationship. Peter had hugged you and you two had spent the evening sneaking into the art room to paint each other.
Peter was surprisingly a splendid artist and you had put the painting that he painted of yourself against the wall on the floor next to your bed, and gave Peter the one you painted of him.
“Damn, Peter,” James nodded at the canvas. “You painted that?”
“Huh? Oh,” Peter was getting dressed and pulled his sweater over his head. He looked from the painting to James. “Uh, Y/N did,” he beamed. “It looks good right?”
“You guys painted..?”
“Yeah, cause you didn’t show up again yesterday,” Peter casually mentioned. “You know, she was-“ He didn’t get to finish his sentence, because James had already sprinted out of the room to find you to apologize.
But as usual, James thought it had to be a grand gesture.
Flowers! Lily liked flowers. Girls like flowers, perfect. The idea popped up in his head, and he went to work to cover your entire dorm and bed with flowers.
It seemed like a perfect idea.
Until it evidently wasn’t.
“Shit, I’m so sorry, it slipped my mind,” James apologized for the thousandth time as he sat by at the side of the hospital bed with the rest of the marauders. They shared a look with each other.
“Well, I bet you’ll never forget about my severe flower allergy ever again now,” you joked in attempt to console him. Your face was swollen and your eyes were bloodshot.
You smiled at James and tried to push back the hurt you felt at the fact that he forgot about something as important as that.
“I’ll make it up to you,” James quickly promised with a grimace.
“Do you get that same sense of déjà vu or is it just me,” Sirius remarked from the other side of the bed.
“No, I get it too,” Peter agreed almost too quickly.
James frowned at his friends for the little jab. They knew he didn’t do it on purpose right? He looked at Remus for support.
“Better be one hell of an idea,” was all he said.
“Oh come on,” you attempted to kick Sirius weakly with your leg but failed because your legs were still half paralyzed.
“Stop giving him such a hard time,” you started. James shot you a relieved look.
“He’s already feeling shit for almost killing me,” you grinned and James groaned and dropped his head on the side of your bed. You moved your arm with some effort and let your fingers stroke through his hair.
“I’ll be the best best-friend there is, starting from right now. I’ve got so many ideas for Easter holiday and it includes your favorite chocolate,” he promised in a muffled voice.

Whatever you imagined his ideas for activities during the Easter holiday included, it wasn’t with Lily in the picture. Yet here you were, sitting across of her at the dinner table.
They were both deeply engrossed in each other and you and Fleamont shared a look.
“How’s your year been, sweetheart?” Fleamont asked and he looked at you over his glasses. You smiled at him, relieved.
“It was great so far, I mean, despite being bedridden for two weeks, but the guys have been great,” you jumped to talk about your adventures.
“I went to watch the blue crescent moon with Remus, and the comet with Sirius. And I’ve painted with Peter! I’ve got to say, he’s painted me in a flattering light,” you rambled on passionately.
“Oh, and we’ve started a study group thing together, it’s basically just Remus and I trying to help Sirius and Peter though,” you lightheartedly joked.
“We’ve played some harmless pranks too, like turning every toad into a cat and every cat into a toad, it was utter chaos!” You shared and at his disapproving look and focus on James, you quickly intervened. “Don’t worry, James didn’t do anything, he’s been good,” you joked.
You missed Fleamont’s raised eyebrows.
“I’ve been swimming in the lake with the boys and pranked Remus and Peter with Sirius and pretended to be merpeople, you should’ve heard their screams!”
Your eyes were gleaming at this point as you relived your happiest moments so far. “Well, until Remus cast a spell on Sirius that turned him into a slug of course.”
“So when the four of us went to Hogsmeade…” You continued to ramble on and failed to notice how James’ eyes subconsciously trailed over to you every now and then, listening in on the conversation and realizing his name never fell once.
Lily noticed his divided attention and was unsurprisingly and rather justifiably annoyed at James.
She voiced out her concerns to James that very night during which you had excused yourself and gone home across the street.
You didn’t want to third wheel and Godric forbid should you share a room with Lily.  She hated your guts as it was and you didn’t feel like being smothered in your sleep.
When you had offered to go back home, you had sort of hoped he would say something along the lines of “No, please stay” and instead were met with a “Yeah, that’s probably for the best”.
And now, all he could wish for was chilling on his bed with you next to him while he was being chastised by Lily. His eyes glanced up and he stared at the enchanted bedroom ceiling full of stars, Lily’s voice long gone from his mind.
“Are you even listening to me?” She waved her hand in front of his face and he fought the urge to pull an annoyed face at her.
At his lack of response though, she repeated herself. “I’m your girlfriend. I thought you wanted this?”
James let her words sink in for a moment. She was all he ever wanted. And it was so so different from what he’d imagined it would be like.
Of course, he wasn’t planning on breaking up or anything, he didn’t want to be that douchebag that was only in it for the chase after all. And he hoped somehow that those feelings would return sometime.
She was everything he wanted. He just wished she’d be more interested in his friends, less disapproving of his pranks, or more proud of his achievements at Quidditch.
He would appreciate it if she were just a little bit more patient with him, and shared a little bit of his humour.
He just wanted her to be more open and enthusiastic about their relationship and himself.
He wanted her to be a little more like you-
He reeled back from that revelation. Oh.
Oh no. That would ruin his friendship.
“-and you know what, you can’t have both, James,” Lily continued and he snapped out of his thoughts.
“I can’t be your girlfriend if she’s in the picture. So choose. It’s me or her.”
James stared at her in surprise and then walked out of his room without another word to her.
He looked out the window at the real starry night sky. It seemed to him that he’d lose you regardless. But maybe, he’d be happy with Lily. She was all that matters, he convinced himself.
“Don’t you see how wrong it is that she’s making you choose,” you asked him incredulously, but your eyes looked at him pleadingly. James forced himself to look back at you and shook his head.
“No, she’s-, she’s right,” he mumbled, and you staggered back at that. “I mean, you’re a girl, you know?” You raised your eyebrows in an unimpressed manner. “Astute observation.” You dryly remarked.
“And everyone assumes things about us, so please, you have to understand that this isn’t fun for Lily either,” James tried. “I just can’t be friends with you and be in a relationship with Lily at the same time.”
You opened your mouth to protest, but he cut you off.
“I can’t,” he urged. “And between you or her, I choose her. She’s my girlfriend,” he reasoned.
“And I’m your best friend since we were born,” you stubbornly retorted.
James looked at you beggingly, hoping that you’ll understand his predicament and that you’d make it easy on him. At the squint of your eyes and the deepening frown on your face, he gulped. “Please. I’m really sorry, but I have to choose her,” he finished weakly, doubling down on his decision.
Realizing that he wasn’t joking, it felt like he might as well have punched you in the gut. Your stubborn look flickered to hurt and then morphed into an ice-cold front of indifference.
You took a deep breath and collected yourself. You stared at him up and down, not recognizing your best friend in him anymore.
“You’re unbelievable,” you shook your head at him, and your voice was devoid of any emotion. With no other words to address the situation, you pushed past him roughly.
Months passed by and the summer vacation started. Then it ended and Hogwarts began again. All without a word from James. He had stopped spending much time with the marauders, mostly busy with walking after Lily.
Sometimes he would glance at you when she wasn’t watching, and he’d feel so lonely.
He waited for you during the vacation, but you never went to yourr house across his. Instead you spent your time with your cousins in Ireland.
When he made his way towards the platform on September 1st,  he felt weird. First of all, he was slightly reluctant to go. He realized that he had thoroughly enjoyed his holiday without Lily.
But secondly, and perhaps most importantly; This was the first time ever that he went to the Hogwarts Express by himself, without you by his side, and an epiphany cleared his mind. Everything was so wrong.

You eyed him up and down. With lack of better words, he looked terrible. So terrible, that you might’ve pitied him any other time, because how could you ever be angry at James, when he looked so sad.
When his eyes are glassy and red. When his hair is disheveled as a result of an undoubtedly rough night. When his voice cracked at his sloppy apology. Or when his lips trembled almost unnoticeably when you said no.
But all of that wouldn’t magically clear away your own misery of the past months.
“I was supposed to be your best friend,” you enunciated slowly. “It’s always been you and me. Merlin, we’ve known each other since we were born and they ran out of baby cribs at St. Mungo’s, so they put us together in one!” you exclaimed.
You bitterly scoffed to yourself at the reminder of your literal lifelong friendship.
“But you cut me off for a relationship with Lily? Lily who rejected you for years and when she finally did agree to date you, never even gave you the time of the day?”
You stared at him incredulously and had to remind yourself to tone down your voice a little. You had unconsciously been raising it and didn’t want to attract unwanted attention.
“You followed her around like a lost puppy and cast me aside because she didn’t trust you for being friends with a girl and you were so easy to discard me,” you laughed humorlessly, trying to mask your hurt feelings. “I guess I must’ve really not meant all that much to you.”
To James’ credit, he at least had the decency of looking remorseful. His own words were replaying on a loop in his head. Of course he regretted it all.
“You can’t come back after that and expect me to just open my arms for you,” you firmly stated.
James looked at you helplessly, and you let out another laugh in disbelief. “Oh, Godric, you did,” you stared at him with wide eyes in surprise.
James could feel himself getting flustered and spoke up again. “I just thought that maybe-,”
“No, no, no. Like I said, I’m not doing this again.”
“Please, lov-, Y/N please, if you would just let me prove to you that you do mean so much to me,” His voice was getting increasingly more desperate. “I just want-, I need you to give me a second chanc-”
“A second chance? James, you are way past that. You’ve already had a second chance,” you bitterly told him. “Merlin, I’ve given you a second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth chance. I would’ve given you a thousand chances, but even that, you threw away.”
You tiredly rubbed your face. “I have nothing left to give you.”
Your words hit him in the face and his chest tightened.
“Oh… No, I-, I definitely understand.” His voice came out quietly.
James wanted to hide away. He felt utterly pathetic and ashamed at his own actions.
“I’ll uh, I’ll leave you alone, then.” He turned around but stopped mid step.
“But Y/N? If you ever change your mind, or if you ever need me, I’ll be there for you this time. Always right behind you.” James let his eyes linger on your face for a moment, taking you in. Merlin, he really missed you.
Your mind struggled to find the words to properly articulate all that you’ve felt these past months.
“For what it’s worth, I’m sorry too. For not trying to fight for you more,” you sympathetically offered.
“Oh, what? No, that’s-, it really was all my own fault. I chose her over you, and it was stupid. I was stupid, not you.”
“I don’t know. I feel like I should’ve tried harder to find a solution. I regret it too, you know, that we lost us.”
James frowned at your words.
“You-, I don’t even-,” you sighed. “I thought we would be in it for life, you know,” you eventually confessed, and James eyes widened. He wasn’t sure if he understood that completely, but his heart had made a small jump at your confession. Surely you didn’t actually mean…?
“Maybe not side by side as lovers or anything,” you quickly tried to cover yourself, but instead confirmed James’ thoughts. “But I was so sure we’d be partners nonetheless.” James watched you smile fondly, but sadly at the thought.
“I tried so hard not to be jealous of the fact that I was no longer the first person you’d go to for everything.” You chewed on your lower lip and James forced himself to pry his eyes away from it.
“You could be again,” James whispered to himself. But it was loud enough for you to hear it. You chose to ignore it and the way your heart tugged.
“But it was never an issue of jealousy when you actively forgot me on so many different occasions and then just kicked me out for her.”
“I'm sorry, I don’t know why I… how I even…”
“Look, I have to go,” you settled on, and nodded awkwardly at him. “But thanks for apologizing,” you added before you left.
You’d gone about your life according to the same routine of the past few months and paid James little to no mind. Though he was spending all of his time with the marauders again, you somehow found a way of disappearing right when he would arrive.
Days passed and James watched you laugh at the punchline of the joke that a ghost had told you. So close and yet so far.
James knew that you told him no when he had asked if things could go back to the way they were, but he couldn’t give up on you. It was as if something was physically stopping him from doing so.
He wanted you to see him again, but would never cross your boundaries, which left him in a difficult position.
The first opportunity presented itself when he overheard some guy talk shit about you. Except he only saw red instead of an opportunity. Because how dare they.
“She’ll give in someday. I’ll show her how to have a good time. Godric knows she’s too prudish, wouldn’t even let me-“
James surged forward before he could even think and grabbed the guy by the collar, his wand was pointed at the boy’s throat in a matter of seconds, a piercing glare on his face as he gritted through his teeth.
“Don’t.” It was a warning and the boy heeded it and scrambled away when James released him.
“What are you looking at,” he called out to the students that had stopped to watch what was happening. They too, quickly scrambled away, pretending they hadn’t seen a thing.
But by supper, everyone had heard about it, including you. You looked at him from further down the table and nodded at him with a appreciated smile.
James heart skipped a beat and he dreamed of you that night.
So what else could he do for you that would make you happy, he wondered while he wandered around the castle. The marauders were hanging out with you right now, leaving James to his own devices.
“Books!” He yelled out loud and it startled a cat. “Signed books had been successful, right? But what books, and how to…” He muttered to himself.
You stared at the pile of books that started to form next to you while owls flew in and back out again, only to return with more books. When you opened the one on the pile to your left, you saw that it was signed by one of your favorite authors.
Your eyes grew wide and you quickly inspected the signature from up close. Your hands stroked the beautiful hard back cover of the book. First copy.
People all over the great hall were looking at the spectacle  but you just laughed and blew a kiss at the last owl.
You glanced at James because you knew it was him who orchestrated all of this. Only he would know all your favorite authors and books.
James simply offered you a smile and continued eating his food, but he was absolutely beaming inside at the gleeful look on your face.
You visited him in his dorms that night. “James,” you whispered. You held your finger to your lips as a sign not to wake the others.
“James, thank you for the books, they’re amazing,” you told him. “But James, you’ve got to stop. Don’t fight on my behalf. Don’t spend so much money on me. Please “ you begged him.
James’ smile fell. “I made you uncomfortable,“ he noted. You sighed and sat down on his bed. “I used to give you gifts all the time,” he weakly defended himself.
“I don’t want to forgive you,” you started. James looked down.
“You hurt me. Do you get that? You hurt me and broke our friendship and I don’t know when I’ll want to be friends again, but it’ll never the same when I do. So you have to stop doing all of this. You can’t try to buy it with gifts and heroic deeds.”
“I don’t want it to be the same either,” James sighed out in a defeated tone. “I just need you with me. One way or another. I’m not trying to buy anything, I just want to make you happy.”
You understood his words and the implied confession behind them. After all, you had felt the exact same way months ago.
You sadly smiled and pressed a kiss to his cheek. James closed his eyes at the contact and tried to savor the moment. You really were his greatest regret.
“I don’t want to forgive you,” you stubbornly repeated.
“You don’t have to. I just want to be there.”
“Right behind me, right? No matter what pace?”
“Of course,” he replied.
It took time. Months and months actually, where he respected your boundaries and slowly inserted himself back into your life, with your permission of course.
At first simply joining you with the marauders again. Then thoughtful actions such as giving you his spare quill. Later on even sitting next to you during Transfiguration and building up to study nights and eventually back to star gazing.
However slow it was, everything was worth it, James thought to himself as he opened the door to invite you in for the Easter holiday.
“Hi, thank you for coming over,” he widely smiled.
“Ah you know, I live right across the street, love.”

Slytherin!Heeseung x Gryffindor!reader
Trope: Headboy x Headgirl
Heeseung was beyond elated when he got his letter back at the manor, stating how he had become the head boy of Hogwarts. His family of pure bloods were even prouder, however, his cocky smirk dropped the second he met with the entirety of the prefectorial board at the Hogwarts express, prefect compartment to be precise.
Seeing you standing there with the batch stating ‘head girl’ was not something he wanted to see, not when you were someone who came from a non wizarding background, someone who was in Gryffindor.
How could they make you the head girl? How could they think he’d be willing to spend his time working with you of all people. His hatred for your likes was visible from day one, his taunts and threats didn’t bother you, and that’s exactly what bothered him. The urge to make your life living hell was his motto more or less, even more so this year.
“It’s absurd, man. Let her be now, it’s our last year here for Godric’s sake,” Jay huffed out, irritated that Heeseung couldn’t shut up about the new Gryffindor quidditch captain giving you too much attention despite your blood status.
“It doesn’t fucking matter, why do people like her anyway? What happened to keeping the muggles away from the likes of us?” He gritted his teeth, accidentally stabbing the piece of chicken too hard with his fork at dinner. The sight of you snuggling close to the said captain infuriated him more than he let on.
“Well, she’s not a muggle if she can do magic, and extraordinarily well at that,” Jay offered, having done with Heeseung being a dimwit and not realizing the truth behind his anger.
“Wow, thanks for the support, mate,” Heeseung rolled his eyes, looking back at you again.
He’d make sure to wipe that smile off of your face while taking rounds later—at least that’s what he promised himself. Taking rounds was probably the time he looked forward to the most, given that it was the perfect time to criticize and show hatred towards you.
However, the second you meet up at the staircase, telling him to divide areas since you do not wish to work with him anymore, he loses it. He completely loses it, scoffing and grabbing your wrist, pulling you into the room of requirement right behind you.
“What the fuck—” you tried to scream, but he was quick to cover your mouth with his hand.
“What? Can’t even look my way now that you have a quidditch captain chasing you around?” He scoffs, eyes full of hatred, the kind you had never seen before and it made you scoff.
“Well, newsflash, Lee. I never wanted to look your way from the very start. In case you haven’t noticed, it’s you who’s clearly obsessed with me,” you seethed out, not caring about the proximity despite your breathing getting heavier.
“Ah? Me obsessed with the likes of you? Don’t flatter yourself, darling,” he said, tone almost challenging, his hold on your wrist tight, just like the hand that was grabbing your waist now, making you gulp but not back down.
“So, it shouldn’t matter to you if I snog my quidditch captain, or more,” you whispered with a smug smile, feeling his hand squeezing your waist tighter.
“You cannot do that,” he warned.
“Oh but I did—”
You couldn’t finish your statement and nor could Heeseung control his actions anymore, pressing you up against the wall and shoving his tongue down your throat, kissing you in the messiest way he could muster to mush out all the sane thoughts coming his way.
This was the sanest he had felt in ages.
“You’re fucking mine,” he groaned against your lips.
“No, fuck I’m not,” you smirked, testing him further, loving how he had finally given in to the truth—that he wanted you.
The room of requirement was sly, preparing a bed as he pushed you on it, getting on top of you while getting rid of his robes, “oh, babe, I’ll show you who you belong to.”
“Took you way too long, Lee,” you chuckled, gasping the second he pushed your panties aside, feeling your wetness on his fingers with a smirk.
“Been waiting, eh?” He asked, cocky as he pushed two fingers in with ease, your back arching as you moaned.
“Talk about yourself,” you smirked, pulling him into another rough kiss, messy of all sorts as he sucked on your tongue, pumping his own cock by lubricating it with your wetness.
He wasted no time, in aligning himself to your entrance, pushing his cock in one go to bottom out, groaning at the tightness that squeezed him, thrusting almost instantly when he saw nothing but pleasure on your face with a promise to claim you his.
“Fuck, I knew you’d make a perfect whore, always so desperate for my attention,” he groaned, snapping his hips to yours, the noise resonating the room.
“You can’t even thrust properly, ah—” he sped up to shut your mouth, your toes curling as you held on to him for support, chanting his name like a mantra the whole time as he proved just how much and how well he can fuck you.
All night.

Slytherin!Jay x Hufflepuff!reader
Trope: Animagi Jay
It took him a lot of patience.
In fact, it took everyone in his friend group a lot of patience to keep their mouths shut for a whole month, a single mandrake leaf resting in their mouths. However, they wanted to do something iconic, which would be—turning into an animagus to cause trouble whilst being unregistered at that. The whole process was tedious.
Jay was losing his last bit of sanity, watching you smiling softly and being kind to others, which was a usual thing per se.
The only problem was how he couldn’t verbally bother you.
It was known to be his favourite pastime, inserting himself in your life and bothering you for existing.
Why? Because that’s what he should do, being a slytherin. He had a personality he needed to live up to, and he knew hell would break if anyone as much as gets a hint about Jay’s infatuation with you.
The solution? To make sure he says the meanest things so he wouldn’t have to see your smile. You don’t get why he’s mean to you. His hatred goes as far as it concerns you, and you’ve never seen him calling anyone else names but you.
So, seeing you being happy and not once thinking about him since he put the leaf in his mouth had his blood boiling, especially when you agreed to attend Slughorn’s party with a random ravenclaw boy. The same party he was gonna ask you to attend with him—or bully you into attending with him, but the smile on your face gets him mad.
He scoffed, ignoring the whole situation and focusing on the transformation process, completely missing the look of sadness on your face when he left without even acknowledging your presence, his mind deep in different thoughts.
Of course you’d be happy without him.
However, the success in becoming an animagi had him smiling. He was a big black cat—a royal panther, while his other friends turned into a bird and a dog.
He went out to explore the place in his animal form, getting out of Hogwarts castle to visit the black lake, not once thinking that he would find you here at night.
Your back looked peaceful as you stared at the lake, and he was silent as he made his way towards you, almost scaring you the second you saw a black panther settling down next to you, a gasp leaving your mouth as your eyes shined under the moonlight.
“Hi, I’ve never seen you around before,” you spoke up, fascinated, extending your hand to stroke his fur.
Jay didn’t expect this, and he knew he didn’t have to pretend in this form, making him purr with pleasure as you gently caressed him. He was a cat after all. The warmth of your kindness was driving him crazy, he so desperately wanted you to like him back, but he knew you wouldn’t.
It became a routine for him to sneak out to meet you at night in his animal form, and he adored how you shared all your secrets with an animal, talking to him, letting him rest his head on your lap and as far as kissing his head in adoration.
He was in love with you.
He loved how you welcomed him with a pretty smile, the same smile which he wipes off your face in his human form.
Everything was going smoothly, to the point Jay had even started staring at you between classes, not being as rude as he used to be before and you never hesitated on smiling back at him, ever so kind. He wanted to talk to you, face to face, and confess.
However, that plan went down the drain. The same Ravenclaw boy was seen standing close to you, a conjured flower in his hand which he presented to you with a wide smile while Jay watched it unfold with the nastiest scowl on his face.
So being petty, Jay practically shoved you out of the way, not looking back even after hearing a little “ouch” coming from your direction as you stumbled, ignoring when you called out his name, rather proceeding to the next class.
He didn’t see you there, and he tried not to act affected by your absence, assuming that you’d have gone with the other guy, relaxing when he saw you in potions class again, his eyes never leaving your face which looked distressed. Especially after you took a sniff of the amortentia, the love potion.
His heart lurched, wondering if you smelled the other guy. And in his case, he knew he was doomed the second he took a sniff and instantly smelled of your body lotion and your favourite delicacy. His eyes met yours that very second and he had to gulp, looking elsewhere to pretend that he was fine.
That night, with a heavy heart, he sat down next to you in his animagi form yet again, this time he found you at the astronomy tower, a bandage around your arm.
“Hey, love,” you welcomed the black panther, “it’s such a pretty night,” you sighed dreamily, petting the panther next to you.
“You mind if I talk?” You asked, chuckling when the panther nodded as if he understood what you meant, “I don’t understand boys. I really like this guy but he’s been mean to me to see. It’s pathetic, isn’t it? That I smelled him in the love potion and he’s the reason why I stumbled and hurt my arm—I just can’t help it, I wish Jay would like me back but he doesn’t even look my way without wanting to look away or just comment about how I’m just a weak Hufflepuff girl,” you mumbled, not focusing on how the panther had stood up all of a sudden.
Jay’s heart thumped, he wasn’t sure if he heard it right, but it was too much, he couldn’t wait anymore.
He transformed back into his human form right there, your eyes widening as you opened your mouth to scream, which he put a hand over to muffle your voices.
“That—that was you!” You whisper-yelled, shoving him away.
“Did you mean it?” He asked, grabbing your wrist which made you lean against the wall, “that you like me?”
You could barely breathe, biting your lip as you nodded, “I know you hate me—”
“Oh, you know nothing, baby,” he chuckled, grabbing your nape and pulling you into a kiss, making your eyes widen before he pulled you even closer, making you kiss him back eventually, getting fervent with your actions.
“Fuck, I like you so much. It was you who I smelled, in the love potion, I mean. I’m sorry for being an asshole, I never knew how to handle feeling this way for you,” he apologized, cutting the kiss and leaning his forehead against yours.
Instead of replying, you pulled him into another kiss, letting his hands wander all over your body, his self control leaving his body. He knew he had you now, and he knew he wouldn’t be letting go, especially after the little whimpers leaving your mouth the second he started kissing your neck after leaving your lips all swollen.
You were too sensitive, too forgiving.
Rubbing your thighs together didn’t help either, but the second he squeezed your bare thigh, you knew you were gone. It was the ideal place for you both to be doing this, but stopping wasn’t an option, not when he was so passionately marking you just after you told him you rejected the other boy.
Spreading your legs was easy, asking you to be a good girl and keep your voices at bay was even easier for Jay, and you obliged, your eyes rolling back as he lapped at your cunt, licking big stripes while fucking your cunt with his fingers, trying to be gentle but you were too pent up to ask him to go slower, only urging him to move faster.
That’s how you spent your night, he took you to his chamber, kicking everyone out shamelessly to fuck you into the mattress, his cock not having enough of you and your pussy clenching him, trying to hold him in for as long as you could before you both reached your high.
He knew he fucked up before but now that he actually had you in his arms, he knew he was going to cherish you forever.

Ravenclaw!Jake x Gryffindor!reader
Trope: Yule ball, fake dating
Jake was loved by everyone and he basked in the warmth of it. Being good in academics came naturally to him, he was a Ravenclaw after all. Adding to it, he was selected to represent Hogwarts at the triwizard championship, his fame and name more glorious than ever these days.
The problem? He had everyone’s attention but the girl who he claimed to have a tiny crush on.
He wanted to ask her to be his date for the Yule ball, however, the chances were slim as another Gryffindor boy named Heeseung, asked her right before Jake could even call out her name.
Jake wasn’t the only one suffering. You stood there beside him, watching the scene unfold with the same wrath in your eyes.
You wanted to go to the ball with Heeseung.
“Tough luck?” Jake asked, not sparing you a glance as you both watched him from a distance as they hugged gleefully.
“Talk about yourself, champ,” you crossed your arms, “she didn’t even think twice before saying yes,” you commented, jaw clenching, “she’s gonna get her heart broken, he’s gonna turn her into a situationship too.”
“What? We have to warn her,” Jake spoke, eyes widening.
“Oh, I tried, but she actually really likes Heeseung,” you huffed, “and here I thought I meant something to him.”
“Go with me,” Jake breathed out, finally looking your way, taking your beauty in.
“What?” You exclaimed, turning your head to look his way too.
He was beautiful, there’s no denying him. His hair was a bit on the messier side, lips pink and swollen from biting (he was nervous), and eyes full of hope.
“To make Heeseung jealous, of course!” He defended his statement and your eyes widened in understanding.
“Oh,” you let out, “so we’re doing all this fake dating thing, now?” You teased him, loving how his cheeks got redder but he only stepped closer, shrugging.
“We’ll have fun, you’ll get to be with the triwizard champion, it’s a win-win for you,” he offered, smirking and you smiled humorously.
“Sure,” you agreed, not paying attention to Heeseung who witnessed this interaction of yours.
It was easy to keep up with him, the rumours of you two being together spread like wildfire, especially with the Yule ball coming up, which only favoured you, granted that Heeseung had tried to approach you several times but Jake hadn’t left your side at all.
In fact, you were scared how easy it was to be in his company, “she wanted me to teach her how to ride the broom,” Jake had told you once, and he was one heck of a flyer, despite him not being in the team.
Naturally, you offered him to teach you that instead, watching how his eyes lit up and he nodded. Something about Jake was endearing to you—like how he helped you ride the broom with him sitting behind you. It felt real, too romantic the way he held on to you, smiling as he pointed out the various spots you could see from the height.
And you knew he felt it too, his heart pumping out of his chest as you rested your back against him.
It felt too real to him when you got him a tie that matched the colour of your dress, asking him to match with you, and he realized he had stopped thinking about the other girl completely as he helped you around with studies and you helped him feel alive.
Somewhere along the lines, you had forgotten that it was all fake, simply because it felt real to the both of you. The hand holding, the snuggling closer, the soft smiles on your faces, none of it was fake.
It didn’t hit you till you were on your way to meet Jake, only to find the other girl already talking to him in a corner, your jaw clenched at the sight of them talking about something you couldn’t make out from this distance. Your mind wasn’t sane as you stepped back and rushed to your own room, wondering if they had gotten together.
You knew it could very well be a misunderstanding, yet you didn’t do anything about it, especially when Jake didn’t come to meet you at all today.
You were slightly heartbroken as you woke up the next day, everyone seemed happy to the point they couldn’t stop talking about the Yule ball tonight, doing their hair and skincare already and you tried to join them, knowing that you can’t run away from it no matter what the situation would be.
Now, clad in your gown, you most certainly did feel better, looking in the mirror to find the prettiest version of yourself, you felt beautiful as you walked down the stairs, smiling gently when you found Jake waiting for you by the stairs.
His breathing hitched the second he saw you, eyes twinkling as he took you in, heart beating faster when you stood in front of him. It was magical how he took your hand, kissing your knuckles gently, “you look beautiful,” he whispered, your face heating up at the compliment.
So, you postponed asking him about the other girl, focusing solely on him as you were called for the first dance with Jake—the Hogwarts champion. He treated you well, he looked like the prettiest man alive, pulling you closer and dancing with you like he meant it when the rock band came out, but after a while, you stopped, pulling him out when he got you drinks to talk by some secluded area—a classroom nearby.
“I saw you guys talking,” you told him, admitting how you would be okay if he leaves you now and he how doesn’t need to put up this act anymore, making his heart lurch, “fuck—no! I asked her to stay away because,” he gulped as he met your eyes, “because I like you, not her.”
Everything felt rushed after, his lips on yours, your fingers in his hair, bodies pressed against one another as he messed up your lipstick, “I like you so much,” he kept mumbling between the kisses, lips trailing down to mark your neck.
He knew what he had to do—kiss every inch of you till you understood the depth of his words. He wants you so genuinely it makes your heart beat faster, his eyes full of earnestness as he comes up to kiss you again, but more than that, he wants to taste you, give you the pleasure you deserve.
Getting down on his knees was easy for him, getting under your gown even easier. You breathed in deeply when you felt him burying his nose in your pussy, pushing your panties aside to lick a stripe of your cunt, leaving a small kiss on your clit right after.
His movements were slow and calm, his hold on your thighs tight as he devoured you, seeming as if he’d be hungry for ages. You could have sworn you never felt this way before, gripping the table you were leaning against tightly, you tried your best not to fall down with how your knees were getting weaker by the second as his tongue was pushing around much faster than before.
“Jake—” you gasped, seeing stars as you finally came undone, your whole body felt as if it was on fire but Jake was just getting started with you.
Getting out, he looked more disheveled than ever, taking your hand and making you feel his hardened cock, “see what you do to me, baby,” he whispered, pulling you into another kiss, unzipping your dress as you cried about how much you need him.
Soon, your dress was on the ground and his body was connected with yours in a slow rhythm, full of lazy kisses and smiles, your face hidden in his neck as you bit him to conceal your moans when he hit that one spot which had your whole body weak.
You looked so beautiful, it made him lose his control, the sight itself had him twitching with the need to fill you up.
When you kissed him again, he finally let go, loving each second of it, knowing that you were truly his now.

Gryffindor!Sunghoon x Slytherin!reader
Trope: quidditch players, enemies to fwb
“Gryffindor! Gryffindor! Gryffindor!”
“Slytherin! Slytherin! Slytherin!”
The chants were loud, the crowd going wild at the sight of you and Sunghoon circling around each other before the game—something you always did as a challenge. It most certainly didn’t help that you were on par with each other, both chasers for your respective houses.
Watching you guys bicker was something everyone enjoyed, especially when it was about your houses and their reputations.
“You better watch out, Park,” you smirked, taking your position, “Slytherin is taking the win today,” you sang, watching his smirk grow.
“In your dreams, darling,” he whispered, winking at your right as the whistle blew.
The chants were loud and so was your motivation as you grabbed the Quaffle, successfully throwing it in one of the hoops as the crowd cheered. Watching Sunghoon scowl was a sweet treat, especially when you winked at him, passing by with the quaffle again.
The game continued for a while, your house leading by thirty points, much to Sunghoon’s dismay. You were having more fun teasing him rather than playing the actual game.
However, the second the snitch was caught by your seeker, Sunghoon got hit by a bludger, falling off his broom. You should have been celebrating his downfall (pun intended) yet you couldn’t help but worry, eyeing his figure while your team celebrated their win.
It was out of character for you to visit him in the hospital wing, but you did it, showing up with the pudding he liked—and you had no clue why you knew it. He was surprised to see it, looking away with a scoff, “why are you here, huh? To boast about your win?” He asked.
You rolled your eyes, “I came here to see if you were doing well but seeing as you can still work that mouth of yours, I’ll just assume it’s alright,” you huffed, leaving the pudding behind. Sunghoon gulped, watching you leave the hospital wing with a huff before eyeing the pudding and eating it, a sudden warmth spreading in his chest.
The bickering worsened since that day, because you had to overcome the fact that you showed care to him, your friends telling you to fuck the sexual tension out—which you won’t do even in your wildest dreams.
Sunghoon was just as furious cause he couldn’t stop thinking about you showing up at the hospital wing just to visit him, his taunts and that smirk annoying you more than ever now, you just wanted to punch him, or shut him up. It didn’t help that he looked awfully attractive with that smirk of his.
Fighting even during the dinner time was getting on everyone’s nerves, to the point you had to go to detention for pulling pranks on each other.
To diffuse this tension, he met you before the next quidditch match you had against him, “oh, ready to have your ass beat, Park?” You asked him with a mock smile.
“We’ll see who gets their ass beat, darling,” he spoke, invading your personal space by whispering in your ear, “let’s make a bet, if I win then I get to fuck you tonight.”
“What the fuck, Park?” You asked, eyes widened.
“You want it too, baby.” He says, a lazy smirk playing on his face, “besides, I won’t bother you ever again if I lose. So, do we have a deal?”
The deal was too tempting, and you weren’t sure if it was because of the fact that you’ll, (1) either be ignored by him or (2) have sex with him.
You grabbed his hand, shaking it with no aim whatsoever, you felt too lost but also determined to put up a good game.
However your mind was busy imagining his lips on yours, the smirk still present on his face, and that’s how you barely put the Quaffle in through the hoops while Sunghoon played with more energy than ever, awfully determined to win the match—win you.
The verdict? He won.
And as lost as you felt, you weren’t sad about it, in fact you were staring at Hoon who was celebrating, his eyes still on yours with that stupid smirk on his face which clearly said: you’re mine for the night.
Being in his room was crazy, the fact that he had successfully pushed out all his roomies was even crazier.
“Not fighting back anymore, kitten?” He raised his brows, his features looking sharper up close now that he had you under him, his weight on you barely giving you any space to move, his scent only driving you crazier.
“You’re the one who gave up, Park,” you finally whispered, pulling him closer by the collar with your usual expression full of mock, your finger tracing his jawline, his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down, “you proposed the idea of fucking me—been thinking about me then?”
His fingers traced the curve of your neck, trailing down till he settled on grabbing your waist, “what if I have? What if I wanna see you shut the fuck up when I make you cry on my cock?”
“I’d like to see you try,” you chuckled, pushing your knee up to caress against his crotch, making him hiss.
It didn’t take him any longer to practically rip off your robes, attaching his mouth to your nipples, flicking them with his tongue as he cupped your cunt as a warning to shut your mouth, but you couldn’t let him win, opening your mouth to mock him again, only to have his tongue shoved down your throat, his fingers kneading your flesh, rubbing your wetness with all his strength to have you whimpering under him.
“I hate you so much, Park,” you mumbled, breathless.
“Feeling’s mutual, kitten,” he groaned right beside your ear, finger fucking you now as his thumb worked your clit roughly, yet giving you the kind of pleasure you never thought you’d receive.
You feel hot as the guy you hate makes you moan uncontrollably, stopping right before you were about to reach your high with his same stupidly attractive smirk when you whined out of desperation.
“What’s the hurry, kitten? We’ve got all night.”
