I remember watching G.I. Jane years ago with Demi Moore as a female trying to become a Navy SEAL. During the movie, there was a scene when the training officer told her “When I want your opinion, I’ll give it to you.” Obviously, that is NOT the way I recommend leaders (or people) act, but it’s a quote that comes to mind whenever somebody says “in my opinion” or “I’m entitled to my opinion”. ‍ When it comes to opinions, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If you live in the United States, your opinions … your speech is supposed to be protected and free. We have the right to our opinion, however, one of the problems with opinions is they can be habit forming. We have an opinion that may actually be in our wheelhouse, and we liked talking about that thing or providing a hot take so much that we then proceed to travel outside our lane. We start opining on everything. ‍ We’re entitled to our opinions, but we don’t have to have an opinion on everything! Sometimes, it’s best to just observe, think, and process. Maybe we should try to understand multiple sides to an issue. The Fest Is Open!

The 25 Days of Voyager and Prodigy is back! 

We will be taking names for days starting today, 15 November! We will first be putting one person per day and then, once all days are taken, can then start adding a second person to each day.

So what is this exactly? Basically on the day you sign up for, you post an original fic, video, manip, gif set, fanart … ANYTHING! The only stipulations:

It must be related to Voyager or Prodigy

It can be for any ship (or none!)

It must be winter OR holiday related (whichever winter or holiday you want!)

We usually ask that you just post your gift for your day on your own tumblr and then we will share it here. If you post a fic on AO3, (collection tag coming soon) just post the link on your tumblr and we will share it. If you don’t have a tumblr, that’s fine too! Just send it to one of us and we will share it for you! Just be sure if you share it, that you tag this tumblr so that we can find it on your day, otherwise we will have to start hunting for it.

To sign up for a day: Please reply, reblog or PM this year’s fest runners ( @gijane-7702​ and @elephant-in-the-pride-parade) and tell us what day (or more) if you’d like and one of us will get you signed up!

I was really hoping to give it digital line work and color, but 1: no time, and 2: my scanner is apparently busted. ...So we get a photo of a drawing with some text.

I know most of you, alongside me, cannot wait for Janeway and Chakotay reuniting Again. But this is not about Janeway and Chakotay, I'm Sorry. I made this fanart Sketch a few days ago. And I think Dal R'El and Gwyndala the Unifier is Perfect to me. They Gravitate so much, that I am glad this ship has executed well enough!! Winter, 2377

My childhood home shimmers into existence before me. Actually, I’m the one shimmering into existence, but it’s all about perspective. 

The house looks exactly like it has in my memory for all these years: two steps up to the wraparound porch, a wooden swing near the door, white wooden shutters that frame each window, and the dark green door that flings wide open as I approach. A reddish-brown ball of fur shoots out of the house, across the porch, down those two steps, and barrels right into me. 

I lose my balance and suddenly I’m sitting on the hard, half-frozen ground, but I don’t feel the cold at all because Molly - my Molly - has her paws on my chest and is licking my face like it’s covered in peanut butter. 

I used to watch those holos - of dogs reuniting with their owners after years apart - with a healthy dose of skepticism. I always thought they must be rigged somehow, or maybe the owner hadn’t really been away all that long. For seven years, I never dared let myself hope that I might be in for such a greeting, and yet here I am, my face covered in dog slobber and my own tears and all because Molly remembers me. 

She starts to settle and for the first time, I realize we are being watched. My mother leans against the door frame with a smile on her face and a steaming mug of something (coffee, I hope) in her hand. I’ve seen her since arriving, of course, at Starfleet headquarters and over com calls, but the vision of her now completes the image of home that I have carried in my mind's eye for so long. My heart swells with gratitude as I stand, brush myself off, reshoulder my Starfleet-issue duffle bag, and walk up the two steps to meet her. 

“Welcome home, Katie,” she beams as she palms one of my cheeks and presses a kiss to the other. In one fluid motion, she has taken the duffle, pressed the coffee mug into my hand, and turned me back towards the yard where Molly waits. “Go on,” she nudges, and I do. 

The sky is a soft gray and although it has not snowed yet, I’m sure it will soon. I can smell it in the air. I’ve missed that smell.

I walk the well-known path that leads around the house and down the hill past my thinking spot under an old oak tree. Eventually, the path will curve back towards the house so there is no chance of me losing my way this time. I stop at the oak and run a hand over its rough bark, grip the worn down knots in the trunk that I used to use for climbing. That tree has borne witness to so many important moments in my life and today is no different. Even the barren branches seem like arms welcoming me home. 

Molly runs ahead and waits in turns, barking to encourage me to hurry up or I’ll miss the incredible blade of grass she’s found or the occasional flake of snow whirling around her head on the breeze. I reach down to scratch behind her ears every chance I get, and not just because her soft fur warms my cold hands. 

The house comes back into view and I see my mother sitting on the porch swing under a blanket, waiting for us to return. I climb the two steps again with Molly close at my heels. Mom lifts a corner of the blanket in invitation and I snuggle in next to her and rest my head on her shoulder, just like I used to when I was little. Molly curls up at my feet and the three of us look out at the yard and watch the flurries that have now started to fall in earnest. Mom wraps an arm around my shoulders and kisses the top of my head. 

It is good to be home.

By the time Ro caught a public train to Bloomington - disguising her uniform under a grey parka - it was nearing nine pm. The small city was well on its way to being covered in white snow and blustering winds.  She walked off the train worried that the hike to Janeway’s home might be too much in this blizzard, only to find there was someone familiar here waiting for her.  "Captain" she rasped, her hand drifted to the phaser in her pocket. "I'm glad I picked the right train," Chakotay said his convivial tone belied the tension Ro could see in his bearing. Her eyes immediately found the outline of his own weapon hidden inside his thick jacket. "Couldn't get through to your combadge with the interference from the storm." Ro frowned. The storm wasn't so bad that it should do that. Chakotay carried on as if they were old friends and not two barely acquaintances both far too armed for the dangers of a sleepy public train station. He spoke as if he'd been expecting her. “I’m glad you could make it for dinner with the family tonight.”
