“There’s a phrase, “sitzfleisch”, which means just plain sitting on your ass and getting it done. Just showing up for work. My uncle Raphael was a painter, and he used to say, “If the muse is late for work, start without her”. You have to be there. You have to be there, and do it, and grind it out, even when it is grinding and you know you’re probably going to rewrite all this tomorrow.”

For those unfamiliar, Star Trek: Prodigy is a gorgeous, heartfelt adventure ideal for everyone and especially those unfamiliar with Trek.
The story is about kids enslaved on a mining asteroid, who uncover an abandoned Starfleet ship, the USS Protostar, and use it to escape.
As they race from The Diviner seeking to capture them and the ship, they learn from the Protostar's hologram version of Captain Kathryn Janeway all about the ship's technology, the ideals of the Federation, the rules of Starfleet, and the potential of their greater selves.

NOTE: The show has been removed from Paramount+since this trailer, and it's now available on Netflix, where Season 2 is awaiting release.
Not long ago, I conducted a poll to see if anyone would be interested in a Substack newsletter about my current projects — as well as opportunities for more in-depth Q&As about some of the cool things I’ve worked on like Star Trek: Prodigy, Trollhunters, and more.
The answer was a yes, so here it is!
Subscribe, read, and enjoy.
Oh, and I’d appreciate it if you’d give this a reblog here on Tumblr, if you’re so inclined. It would help me out as a start things up over there.
