relationship | streamer!kuni x gn!reader

♡ patch 1.1 // masterlist for kuni’s patch notes — ✧ !
Tumblr media
it was not grocery shopping day, but the two of you could have planned your last run better.
alas, the two of you didn't. so on his off-day, the irritated streamer found himself lacing up his shoes and heading out in the rain to get a few missing ingredients for dinner. unfortunately, to his partially concealed displeasure, you were busy streaming a new game to your community, so you had to opt out of ‘yay, quality time!’
he did click his tongue and turned away from you when he heard that earlier.
upon announcing he was missing a few things and needed to head to the local grocery store, you pouted and said you had 'felt sooo bad' and woefully wiped an imaginary tear... grieving that you couldn’t help with the shopping and you were ‘stuck at home doing suuuch boring things’.
he had merely scoffed and waved you off, commenting that he could handle shopping by himself while you entertained your community. besides, based on personal experience, you'd just drag him down a random aisle and spend extra money, anyways. probably buy some random room decor that clashed with his apartment's vibe.
he’s thinking about the eyesore plushies you put on his couch.
kunikuzushi was the one who liked curating the grocery list for each night’s dinners, neatly crossing off each item as he dropped them into the silver cart at the market. he just… happened to forget a few things this week. not his fault; probably yours, if he had to surmise.
these days, the two of you had a shared note on each person’s phone where someone listed their desired items. you had started it after you complained there wasn’t enough room to write your items on his sticky notes. pursing his lips, he could hear your complaints even now as he walked through the overly white fluorescent lighting in the store.
‘kuni, the little cat picture in the corner is cute, but it literally takes up a quarter of the damn note. get with the times, grandpa. check this shit out—‘
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
while kunikuzushi preferred walking into stores with a pen he had stolen from his mother's office and a sticky note crumpled in his back pocket, he had to begrudgingly admit the electronic approach made things a lot easier ever since you moved into his apartment. another mouth to feed and suddenly, his little slip of paper wasn’t sufficient when you started annoyingly mixing your spam texts with pleas for snacks on the way home. or scrawling over his items with your own chicken scratch.
his neatly manicured thumb scrolled through his notes before pulling it up. when he pulled up the note again to mark ‘garlic’ off the list, he squinted as he scanned for what else he needed for the evening. fortunately, he had half the mind to check the pantry and fridge before heading out, so most of the produce was accounted for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
he had already gotten your snacks and shampoo. the conniving young man debated on grabbing you a garbage shampoo brand but decided against it, deeming it unworthy of a few bucks for the joke.
...he tossed in your joke item for the fun of it.
navigating the cart through the store, he finds himself in the seafood section, peering into the cold, open fridges to find a rosy-toned fish. he hums to himself as he scans the various styrofoam-packed salmons, eyeing the price tags on each of them. god, the economy was horrid-
dully, he mulls over how expensive everything was getting and he grumbles to himself about how seafood couldn’t be on the menu as often as before. unless you were willing to chip in with the cash. or if he was willing to drop a quick ‘hello’ to his mother; he’s sure she’d scramble a few hundred his way. he rolled his eyes at the thought of him mom shoving money into his account, thinking that was the way to rekindle their relationship.
anyways. seafood. dogshit economy.
feedin’ for two or whatever.
well, not in that sense.
“...do they even want salmon?’ he wonders as he paws through the pile of sealed fish to find a smaller fillet for the two of you. leftovers were always welcomed, but he'd get tired of leftovers after a few nights in a row. while he wasn’t entirely sure if you’d like fish tonight, he knew who did:
him.
so, tonight was salmon since you weren’t there to stop him. sucks to suck; maybe don’t stream. maybe. maybe cook your own food?
he’s kidding. sorta.
with mild delight, the pleased young man grabbed a fillet of skinless salmon and gently placed it into his cart as he scanned the aisle markers to find the beauty section. as he rolls his cart into the aisle, the indigo-haired male was greeted with various brands of drugstore makeup. as his eyes scan for the familiar packaging of your cosmetics, he scoffs at the shoddy selection.
the wall of eye products was messily kept and a lot of the sections were not even in stock.
“intentionally using cheap makeup for such a delicate and pretty part of your face?” he mutters, spinning and catching his phone in his hand. he trails over and squats in front of the brand you like, but frowns as he notices even your eyeliner was out of stock. in the back of his mind, he could hear your jabs about him being a rich brat and buying overpriced black and red liner.
kunikuzushi would only huff in response every time, fully knowing he’d get to tease you harder when you’d both get caught in the rain and only your makeup was smudged and melting. while you’d whine at him, he’d only smirk as he used a tissue to tidy your face up. holding your cheek in his hand, you’d pout at him and he’d briskly tut at you, commenting about how ‘you’re being quite the brat, don’t you think?’
truthfully, he wasn't judging you for using what worked within your budget. he just found it irking you didn't want to accept his offers to supply you with something he thought worked infinitely better. last month, he had nonchalantly left a fresh tube on his dresser near your jewelry. when he saw both your jewelry and the tube missing, he walked to the bathroom in hopes of finding you prepping for the day. when he coughed and leaned against the doorframe, you whipped around. with a sheepish stare, you tossed it back to him, only for him catch it and dryly comment that he conveniently ‘received an extra in the mail’ and ‘you were welcome to have it, seeing that you already tainted it with your germs’ as he twirled the liner back in your direction.
he knew you liked it, noting that you were reaching for it (and not your old one) when you wanted to accentuate your eyes for the day. seeing that you went back to requesting your old tube of tar, he figured you were too shy to ask him for more or didn't want to spend the extra cash.
in the corner of his eye, he could see himself beaming slightly in the small mirror riddled with lipstick and nail polish swatches; with your choice actually out of stock, he didn't have to come up with an excuse for failing to buy it.
“...just let me spoil you for once,” he swallows thickly to himself as he rises from his squatted position and heads off for the last item on his list. as he exits the aisle, cursing when the cart squeaked as he navigated left, he fiddles on his phone to let you know your makeup was a no-go. he rolls his eyes at your message of ‘booo, lame. get there faster next time 🤡!’
kunikuzushi huffs and pockets his phone, the old sticky note crinkling deep inside.
in the produce section, the young man was strolling through the rows of vibrant fruits and vegetables. inspired by recent events with a knife and fruit, he had one thing in mind and one thing left on the list.
he stops right in front of a small six-pack of mangoes and clicks his tongue when he notes the lack of options.
even these were out of stock today?
gruffly, his eyes dart around the area, checking to see if he could find the familiar cardboard box containing at least twenty-four mangos. that big box of mangoes would sit peacefully on the pantry floor while nearly ripe ones were transferred to the fruit bowl until they were fully ready for munching… and kunikuzushi was quite good at knowing exactly when that was.
“are you fuckin’ kidding me?” he hisses as he lifts the plastic packaging high above his stature to examine the six mangoes for bruising. as he rotates the plastic casing, he squints at the cute stickers riddling the skin, “organic, too? i know damn well these plump shits are not organic,” he clicks his tongue in irritation when he notices the group he was holding was so verdant; upon glancing at the others, he realized they were all green and unripe, but at least at various degrees.
irritated, he growls lowly as he plops the plastic packaging of overly green mangos into his cart, dutifully separating them from the salmon. the pack sat right where a baby would’ve sat. he ignores the amused stare of a produce stocker nearby.
but…
he eyes another pack.
‘normally, i’d buy that large box of them… six isn’t enough,’ he mulls over, leaning against the handle of the cart, wheeling it back and forth.
since you streamed a few times a week, and he enjoyed was forced to give you snacks, six honey mangoes would not last for the two of you. especially since he liked having some fruit as dessert. while kunikuzushi’s track record for cutting ripe fruit was damn near perfect, the occasional bitter surprise would find its way onto your desk midstream and he’d snatch it back for himself when he'd see a slight grimace grace your visage.
give him five minutes and you’ll find a plate of freshly cut and sweet fruit on your desk. turn around and you’ll find kunikuzushi idly scrolling on his phone, nibbling on the bitter pieces without complaint.
he snatches another set and sets them gently into baby seat of the cart.
but twelve is still obviously not twenty-four.
he stood there, thinking admittedly a little too intensely about this as he impatiently tapped his foot against the linoleum floor.
doing the math…
taking into account the number of days you both streamed and how many meals he’d like to have fruit with…
how many potential bitter ones ruining his record...
his amethyst eyes narrow as he glowers at another set innocently sitting at the top of the pile.
Tumblr media
“oho, welcome back! let me help you,” you cheered as he grunted and stepped through the door with every single plastic bag in his arms. you tutted as you removed a bag one by one from his arms, rubbing the reddening and marred skin. as you relieved him of the purchases, you tsked at his lightly soaked shirt from the rain, bounding over to the kitchen to explain you also just ended your stream. kunikuzushi only nodded now and then as you hummed to him what you and your chat had done today. a nod or scoff pointed in your direction, depending on the information you were sharing as he dried himself off.
“... could you believe that? her boyfriend left her,” you start, talking about insider knowledge about other streamers in the community. if kunikuzushi was a dog, you’d know his ears would’ve flicked with excitement at the sound of gossip, “and she…”
as you babbled on and on about some streamer’s current relationship status, you stowed away the lemons, but quickly took them out after remembering your boyfriend would need them soon. you turned with a twirl as you plopped them onto the counter near the sink, looking for the next item to store. in one of the bags, you spotted a small plastic container. your eyebrow quirked at the salacious joke item he actually bought, but you pocketed the little tube without a word.
kunikuzushi’s calm voice cut through your thoughts.
“put those in the pantry, will you?”
you glanced at the man rinsing the tomatoes in the sink, his back remained turned away from you. the shoulders of his shirt were still slightly moist from the rain and the hair at the nape of his neck seemed to stick to his skin. knowing him, he was probably ready to toss the shirt off to cease the uncomfortable sensation.
you had caught the quick nod in the direction of the tiled floor. your eyes floated on down and–
“holy shit.”
your eyes widened at the stack, no, the army of green fruit on the tiled floor, “kuni, what? why…did you buy like, forty mangoes?” you squatted down near the and gawked at the back of his head. you quickly started counting the number of packages, but he cut you off.
he snorts at the sink as he rubs the red skin of a tomato under running water, “forty-two of them, idiot,” he corrects, dropping the red-rubied produce onto the drying rack. his slender back was still turned away from you as he grabs the lemons you placed on the counter. the busied man clearly had no issue with his purchase as he continued to scrub the produce as you stared from the floor.
before you could jab back at him at the sheer absurdity of it all, he finally continues, “i’d say it’s a good idea. we stream for a total of six times per week; more, if we feel generous. i eat fruit daily. unfortunately, not all mangoes… cooperate,” he mutters that last part tersely, “so, statistically, that ruins my efficacy; i might eat more than one or two a day.”
as you stare at him, the sound of running water fills the silence. you rest one of your hands on your hip as you listen to him explain his rationale.
kunikuzushi murmurs slowly, as if choosing his words carefully. “they are at various stages of ripeness if you’re concerned that we won’t finish them all,” he reasons quietly. he grabs a plush towel to dry his hands, but as he turns and slides his jewelry back onto his digits, he freezes upon seeing your amused gaze and teasing grin. your posture told him all he needed to know that an onslaught of teasing was coming and he sighed and crossed his arms. he pursed his lips, waiting.
you coo at him as you round the table, giddily placing your hands on his shoulders. the streamer glowers as heat rushes to his ears as he barks out, “what? is there an issue with my logic? i’m not wrong with my math.”
you squeeze his shoulders gently as you laugh freely, drumming your fingers against the moist fabric. “your math checks out. i’m just… surprised you bought… well, forty-two of them,” you admit, your head craning to the small tower of them. the green gradient was evidence of kunikuzushi’s careful consideration; the bottom-most set was the greenest, with the top being closer to yellow. oh, he definitely thought long and hard about this at the market.
oh, he was so cute for that…
“you liked them the other day,” he uttered plainly as his eyes wander to look at anything other than your teasing smile, “so, i’m just doing you a favor.”
he notes that he was staring at his couch riddled with your plushies in the other room, but he was still able to see the hearts in your eyes as he spoke. he coughs and one of his hands darts to his mouth to cover the smile threatening to rip his face in half when he sees how touched you were over a simple act of just… buying you fruits. he could also see a slight warmth flooding your face, but unlike you, he had the strength to refrain from teasing someone for that.
he’s lying, by the way. he’s just too embarrassed.
…was it really that big of a deal though? he didn’t think so.
he just wanted you to be healthy with him.
you pat his cheek before kissing him on his crinkled forehead. he sputters, but you ignore his flustered huff and swat in your direction. you trot back to the tower of fruits, “you know, people usually just say ‘i love you’. you’re an odd one, kunikuzushi,” you coyly stick your tongue out at him before hoisting everything up. he hastily steps over and grabs the top three, muttering about how ‘you’re going to drop them on your feet—’
‘odd, but so very endearing,’ you think to yourself as you readjust your grip.
the young man rolls his eyes as the two of you meander to the pantry. as you open the pantry door, he debates on if he wanted to offer a potential reason for buying as much sweets as he did. he had thought about it before… kunikuzushi was a little stuck, if he had to be honest. logically, next time the two of you go shopping, he could just buy less to avoid your half-hearted teasing and just go to the store again the following week. but something painfully nostalgic tugged at the back of his mind when he hobbled through the front door earlier and watched you rush to him to relieve him of the heavy bags. he gnawed on his inner cheeks as he felt his cheeks bloom.
“auntie—” he clears his throat once again as a flush rushed up his neck, “—aunt makoto would buy me a lot of fruit growing up. and she’d cut them into shapes…” he trails off, impatiently waiting for you to make room on the floor for the abundance of produce. you hum, nodding as you recalled him bringing up his lovely late aunt in the past. a sweetheart who made her mark during his early life.
you place the first three sets on the floor; the only sound filling the apartment now was the quiet hum of the air conditioner, the ticking clock, along with the rustle and crinkle of the plastic as you set the packages down. he tsks at your crouched form, hating your lack of effortful response to such a vulnerable statement. “…if you didn’t want me to feed you, just say so—“
“—never said that!” you chirp from the floor.
as you turn to grab the next three, you surprise him by hopping up to peck him on the lips; he scowls before folding his arms with a huff. with a pleased laugh that rang prettily in his ears, you gripped the clear containers and squatted down once more to neatly set the fruits on the floor. your gentle approach was to prevent any unnecessary jostling and subsequent bruising to kunikuzushi’s little gifts. near the set of three, you note the small box of mandarins ready to be transferred to the fruit bowl.
from the corner of your eyes, you can see his socked feet take a tentative step closer. you assumed it was because he had noticed the orange sweets needing to be relocated, but as you right yourself up, he hesitantly wraps his arms around your stomach and presses his face against your warm back, releasing an embarrassed and nearly silent, shuddered exhale. deciding you teased him enough for today, you placed your hands on his and refrained from poking any more fun at his delicate ego. unbeknownst to you, you both closed yours eyes and as he relaxes, taking in your warmth and scent.
behind his eyelids and deep within his mind, he could almost perfectly replay his aunt happily bursting through his childhood home’s front door, a sparkle in her eye as she showed off all of the melons and cakes she had bought him. auntie makoto would have angry, scarlet lines from the heavy bags digging into her beautiful skin as she set the gifts down; her beautiful voice rang clear as she excitedly cooed at him to distract him from her discomfort. he remembered he’d rush over to bring one bag to the kitchen because that was all he could manage at the time.
his wonderful aunt would eagerly lift him into the kitchen and plop him onto the chair pressed against the counter so he could watch her prep his favorites. starry-eyed, he’d clap over every star and heart-shaped watermelon she fed him. she always fed him the sweetest pieces of melon and smudged frosting onto his nose as they laughed together in the big, cold kitchen.
it had been awhile since he’d come to enjoy such decadent and sugary treats, as those memories and flavors had only morphed into something more bittersweet over the years.
in your grasp, you could feel his hands easing as he releases a content sigh.
after a few more seconds of peaceful silence, he was phasing back to reality and shoving away the nostalgia for another day. he continued to nuzzle himself deeper against your back, retightening his hold around your midriff.
kunikuzushi softly murmurs against your frame, his voice muffled by the fabric of your shirt. his teensy smile was hidden behind you.
while you couldn’t quite pick up on his quiet words, context clues helped you piece together that the forty-two pieces of honey-yellow lumps in a box and his soft mumbling against the warmth of your back were just his admissions of ‘i love you’.

Monsters walk at night (Monster!Price x f!reader)
Another one for @glitterypirateduck Price writing challenge!
Scenarios used, 16. ‘A Pursuit takes place’ and 44. 'A world where mates exist':
Warnings: monster fucking, NSFW, unprotected p in v, partial smut, literally getting chased down.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It started off as an innocent walk through the woods by the large cabin Price had rented, (seemed more like a house when you saw it), stating you all needed a break. He had distributed the rooms when you all had arrived, securing the perimeter and making sure the security cameras and alarm system worked. You remember the day clearly.
The fridge was fully stocked as were the bathrooms, all the amenities needed for a few days stay away from civilization. You walked into the kitchen getting ready to make some food, the drive there was long and you were absolutely starving. “What are ye plannin ta make and can I have some because I am famished.” You turned to find Johnny strolling into the kitchen. “Well I wasn’t offering to make dinner just looking for a snack, but it’d be a shame to have the cabin burn down.” Johnny groans from the table, “It was one time bonnie! Was nae like I was plannin on burnin the place up!” “Johnny you set the place ablaze tryin to make CUP OF SOUP!” “I was tired!”
Price walked in shaking his head as Ghost and Gaz came in behind him chuckling. Simon piped up, “So you makin food or not?” You roll your eyes, “I’ll make a steaming pile of dog shit just for you Ghost.” “Make sure it has garlic and potatoes, yeah?” After dinner was decided on, (not dog shit), everyone settled in for the night with the exception of you and John. “Fancy a walk luv? There are lights on the trails.” You think about it for a minute and nod, “Sure. Seems like a nice night, gotta walk off that meal too.” You both chuckle and walk outside, the night warm so there was no need for jackets.
You both had been walking for about 20 minutes, the scenery beautiful and calming, making small talk as the scent of Price’s cigar smoke wafts around in the night air. The light from the cigars burning tip gave Price’s already attractive features a boost, almost making him look scary in the dark of the woods. “You know, I could use a bit more exercise. Up for a chase?” You look at him confused as he takes a hit from his cigar and blows the smoke upwards, the red embers showing in his eyes.
He leans closer as you take a step back, his eyes gleaming, his teeth seeming sharper. “Run.” That was all you needed as you took off into the trees. You don’t know how long you ran before you finally heard his boots hitting the ground behind you. He was far but not by much, the sound of his boots thudding loudly, almost like he was heavier now. You had briefly stopped behind a large rock but continued when you heard his voice ring through the forest, loud and strange. “Run all you want sweetheart. I can smell you from a mile away.”
You had barely made it to a clearing when you were tackled from behind. You managed to turn over, finding Price but he looked different. Horns protruded from his head, a spiked tail swaying behind him, teeth razor sharp and eyes glowing like the flames of hell. “Caught you darling. Smelled you the second you started running. Getting chased down turn you on?” You blushed, turning your head away. Sure you had always found Price attractive, you knew he wasn’t totally human, and maybe you had some disrespectfully spicy dreams about him, so who could blame you for being turned on.
He nudged your cheek before moving to your neck, inhaling your scent. “My mate.” “What?” “You’re my mate luv. Smelled it the second you walked onto base.” “ O-oh, um I-“ “Do you accept? I may be a monster but I’m not an asshole. I’ve seen your dreams, heard your whispers.” “This isn’t a joke right? Because…I love you, have for a while and if this is some weird or cruel joke just so you can get laid it’s not funny.”
His eyes widened, stunned. “You think so low of me? That I would make a joke of something so serious?” You shake your head no and he sighs in relief. Nuzzling into your neck, he licks and groans as he tastes your flesh mixed with sweat. “Do you accept?” You nod, “Words, dearest.” “I accept.” A rumble forms in his chest as you kiss him and you both begin to undress. You had felt the bulge of him rubbing against your thigh through the talk and it had you needy.
To say he was large was an understatement as you openly stared at the size of him. “It’ll fit fine luv, no worries.” You nodded hesitantly, “Please be gentle.” He kisses you to smooth your nerves as he slowly pushes in, catching all your pretty noises in his mouth. “That’s it darling. You were made to take me.” He was only half way in but you already felt so full of him but he continued to slip inside unhindered. When his hips finally connected with your’s he left out a drawn out moan into the night air and pulled back slowly. “I hope you’re ready sweetheart, because it’s about to be a long night.” Running a hand over the obvious bulge in your skin, you clench and that’s enough to get him started.
The night is spent surrounded by the sound of his hips meeting your’s, breathy moans, the name of your captain loud on your lips and hands firmly gripping his horns for the ride. He didn’t let up until the sun had almost broken the horizon, both of you spent and newly mated.
The kitchen was always your favorite place to be when you couldn’t sleep. Something about the ability to hear every single noise in a space where usually you’d be lucky to hear the person next to you speak at a normal tone.
You had come in through the back, placed your stuff down in the locker that had your name written on a green piece of tape, your insanely patterned bandana was snug around your head just above your forehead, something you always wore when cooking. Now, the sounds of the water running as you washed her hands filled your ears and was followed by the clunks of pulling the knives out, the blade tinging as you set it free from its case. Now slicing, the quick quippy sounds of the thin slices of all the items you needed to prep. Basil, onions, garlic, fig, and parmesan cheese. All the ingredients you picked up from the grocery story that was still open this late. The chopping and the sizzling filled your ears in a similar way that music would fill someone else’s. It kept you grounded, kept you calm, kept you in the moment.
“Late night snack?” A voice interrupted that tranquility but surprisingly, there was no reaction from your side. You kept steady as your hand tossed the garlic and basil in the olive oil, other hand equipped with a spoon ready to add in the parmesan ricotta mixture.
“You’re lucky I don’t scare easily.” Your voice was steady as you focused on the pan in front of you.
Mikey looked down and laughed before he made his way from the office over to his best chef and best friend. He leaned against the prep area, hands crossed as you had your back to him.
“You should toast the breadcrumbs.” Mikey said as he took in what you were doing.
Immediately, your head turned to look over your shoulder and shot the man a look. “I’m a one-woman show here, Mikey. I’m getting to it.”
“You know, I can help you out.” He had crossed his leg over the other now as he waited for a response. “Only if you want to.” His arms were now uncrossed as he raised them in a surrender.
Your head tilted, the only invitation he needed to start helping out.
“I’m making arancini, fig and garlic arancini.” You specified.
“Rice balls. You’re making rice balls.” Mikey teased. “What inspired the fig?” He asked as he toasted the bread crumbs at the stove next to you.
“Remember when we went to that bar the other night?” You looked up at him, despite being a few feet down from you, he still towered over you in height. “While you and Richie were off doing God knows what, I ordered shit from the bar. They had this fig, arugula, and goat cheese pizza.”
“Jesus Christ, what fuckin’ bar were we at?” Mikey laughed at the fanciness of how it all sounded.
“That place, Porta. I’d say it was more hipster than fancy.”
“God, I don’t even remember.” Mikey laughed before placing his attention back on you and continuing the conversation. “So the pizza was good?”
“It was, and I just kept thinking what would go well with fig and landed at a rice ball.”
“Arancini.” Mikey corrected you with the biggest grin growing on his face.
A laugh left your mouth as you took the sauce off the heat, wanting it to cool down slightly before pouring it into the egg mixture that was already placed in the fridge.
The silence fell over the both of you and you both continued to move around the kitchen. Mikey stood with the bowl of rice in his hands, resting it on the prep counter as you stood over and poured in the egg mixture. Mikey was whisking it around rapidly, that way the eggs didn’t scramble. The smell coming from the bowl was filled with savory scents of garlic and sweet touches of fig reduction.
“You good, buddy?” Mikey was looking at you as he stirred everything around. It wasn’t so much in reference to your current state, which was focused as you concentrated on pouring the egg mixture in, but more in reference to why you were here late.
Buddy. Such a Mikey term. The two of you knew each other for years, meeting when you were smoking in the back of the restaurant you used to work out. To put it in simple terms, he poached you. He had just grabbed a bite at said restaurant, with his brother Carmy, a detail you found out later since Mikey came alone to the alley in the back where you had been taking a break. He asked if you had made the slow braised beef and proceeded to tell you about his restaurant. You never walked back into that restaurant again and started at The Beef the next day.
As time passed, things got close with Mikey. The two of you just fed off each other, you vibed effortlessly and one day that led to more. You spent a majority of the night locked in the office making a bed out of the table, the floor, the bookshelf, anything that had an inch of a flat surface, Mikey took you. That however, never amounted to more. It was always just sex. There was no label on what the two of you had, no real dates, no holding hands, just stolen moments around the restaurant, late nights in the kitchen, nights out at bars, and overnights spent at each others places. But that never made anything awkward because despite their being no label, everyone knew there was something between you two. It was impossible to miss. The way you two got along, the way you spent every waking moment together, whether you were at the restaurant or not. But what the real dead giveaway was, you two moved in the kitchen like you had perfected a choreographed dance, every, single, time. There was never any missteps, any arguing, no bumping into each other, you just glided by each other, calling out kitchen terms and directions. It was a sight to be seen, everyone thought so. Including the family. Sugar and Carmy were impressed when you came by for the first time maybe a month into starting at The Beef. Richie had already seen how the two of you worked together but both Berzatto siblings were shocked by it.
“Hey, you good?” Mikey repeated himself and bent down a little to look into your eyes.
“Yea, sorry.” You shook your head from your thoughts.
“I don’t buy it.” Mikey pressed you again for more information. “What’s with late night rice balls?”
“You ever feel stuck?” There was no point in trying to hide what you were feeling from Mikey.
“Uh, just every day of my life.” You let out a breath through your nose in a sort of chuckle. “I just, wish I could get out of here.” The frustration was littered in your voice.
“Where would you go?” He set the bowl down now that everything was stirred, and he turned to face you.
“Anywhere.” You turned too so you were facing him.
“So let’s go.” His voice raised, like what he said and meant didn’t need planning, didn’t need money, he spoke it outloud like it was the easiest thing to achieve.
“Yea, where?” You were about to start naming off places around here in Chicago as a joke but he was quick to answer you.
“Italy.”
You frowned but a smile was growing on your face. “Italy?” You questioned.
“Yea, let’s go to Italy, we’ll eat all the rice balls in the fuckin’ country, we’ll learn how to make ‘em like a true Italian. We’ll eat our way around Rome, Sicily, Naples, it’ll be great, just me and you and Italy.” He was so energetic in how he spoke, his hands were in the air, his voice was echoing off the kitchen walls.
“You, me, and Italy?” You questioned him as your head nodded in agreement.
“You, me, and Italy.” Mikey nodded with the biggest smile on his face.
____
Time might’ve passed and a lot of things might’ve changed, but sometimes stayed exactly the same. You were pushing through the back door of The Beef, bag and kitchen tools in hand as the clock ticked past 1AM.
“Mikey?” You called out, expecting to see him appear in the kitchen. You called out again and heard nothing. It was odd, but also maybe not. He had been distant lately, you picked up on that when most nights he didn’t come back to your place. You knew things had been tough for him, he was having money issues and as a result moved back in with his mother, he was stressed. Every time you did get the chance to see him, he wasn’t fully there, sometimes you’d taste alcohol on his breath, others you could tell his mind was caught in a thought or 20.
Moving to the lockers, you saw the door open just slightly and the lamp on illuminating a ton of paperwork. You saw his hand resting on the table and slowly peaked in.
Now, you had your suspicions, they were probably more than suspicions, you knew. You knew Mikey was hooked on something. But you didn’t want to accept it. But there it was, slapping you right in the face. It had been functional, he had been functional, which is what made it easy for you to question, for you to say nothing. After tonight, you’d regret it, you’d regret staying silent, not giving in to your suspicions, voicing them out loud.
You took in the sight of him, he was so out of it, you could see his glazed over eyes even from the distance you were at. The giveaway as if everything else wasn’t so obvious was the pills scattered all over the paperwork in front of him.
“Mikey.” The urgency hit you just as much as the the scene of him. You were next to him in seconds, shaking him awake.
The smile that filled his face as he stared at you, the smile that warmed your heart, the smile that melted you, the smile of your best fucking friend was breaking you.
“What–what’re you doin’ here?”
“How much did you take, Mikey?” You moved forward to the table to search for a bottle, a pill count, see how many were on the table, but Mikey’s hands began to grab your arms.
“No, no, no, no, no. Stop, you’re ruining the fun.” Mikey complained, his voice was slurred.
You pulled back immediately, uncomfortable and unsure what to do. Your heart was beating fast and before your tears could even start falling, Mikey started yelling. “You’re ruining the fun!!” It was a repetition of what he had said before and all it did was secure your feet frozen to the ground. “That’s all anyone ever does anymore. Ruin the fucking fun.” He spun in the swivel chair like a child and when it stopped spinning he looked at the bookshelf and began speaking again, but this time more at a whisper.
“Even my own fuckin girl. I can’t have anything.”
You snuck out the door, searching for your phone in your pocket. The irony that in your hastiness, you spent more time looking for it than if you searched for it with purpose and patience.
As you picked your phone up to your ear, your hand was shaking. “C’mon, pick up, pick up.” You mumbled, taking your other hand to pick at your lip.
“It’s 1 in the fuckin’ morning, I’m neck deep in shit diapers, if this is you and Mikey asking me to go out, I’m blocking your number for eternity.” Richie seemed stressed in a completely different way.
“Richie, it’s Mikey, he uh, I don’t know, there’s pills, he’s awake–sort of?, he’s angry, I don’t know how much he took but he, he uh, I just need help, I need you down here, can you get down here, please?” The shakiness in your voice was the dam holding back your tears.
“I’ll be there in 10 minutes. Keep him up.”
With that Richie hung up and you were moving back into the office, you squatted down and turned the chair so he was facing you. “Mikey, babe?” You tried to keep your voice soft. His red, glossy eyes met yours as he plopped his head down to look at you.
“My girl.” A little bit of hope filled his face, he reached his hand up to cup your face. The impulse to pull away was strong but you stayed there, you stayed there with him and let him speak to you.
“You’re so pretty, you know that? So pretty. And you’re so talented, you can throw down, you know that? Best fuckin slow braised beef I’ve ever fuckin’ had.”
The amount of compliments he was giving you, it should’ve had you elated, floating, with butterflies but instead it was making you sick–uneasy. And you just had to sit there and let him say it, over and over again. You were counting in your head, hoping that once you got to the 10th 60th second count, that Richie would be here.
“Hey hey hey, you listening to me?” Mikey moved slightly to look at you, even in his fogged state he could tell your mind was elsewhere.
“Mhm.” You nodded, tears welling up in your eyes as you stared into his eyes.
“You, me, and Italy, baby. You, me, and Italy.” The second time he said it, it was in a whisper like he was desperate for it to be true. Like if he said it low enough the world would grant him the wish. That’s when you really saw him, saw what was happening in his brain. Alongside that hopeful look was one of peace and happiness. The absolute gut wrenching emotion you felt in your heart when you realized it. How being high set Mikey free, set him free from his demons, in some weird twisted way this was the closest you’ve seen Mikey to his usual self.
Before your heart could break anymore, you heard Richie’s voice behind you and he was slipping into your spot and picking Mikey up.
______
“You know I remember this one time, we went over to Mikey’s place, the one on Courtyard, me, Carm, and Richie, and it was Sunday, Braciole night. We walk in, Mikey’s got the game playing so loud in the background, we start prepping, cooking. I remember he told me not to put raisins in the braciole even though that’s how mom did it. And he just, he had this smile on for those first 30 minutes, like he had something planned, like he was in on the joke. But the thing is none of us knew what the joke was. And then, the door opened, we were all confused at who it was and then, this woman appeared. Mikey introduced her to us, he was so happy, and we were like shocked, cause Mikey, our big brother, the player, brought this girl over to our fucked up family Sunday night dinner. She didn’t care that the TV was loud, that we were even louder, that Mikey and Richie would tell the most insane stories, over and over again, and in fact, she moved around the kitchen like, well, like she’d known us all our whole lives. I don’t know if I ever saw Mikey so happy.” Sugar was sitting in bed, her phone on speaker while you sat silent on the other line.
“You at the restaurant?” Sugar cleared her throat.
“Standing right outside it.” You spoke up, trying to hide your tears from the story Sugar just told.
“I’ll be there soon.” There was rustling on the other side of the phone, like she had started to get up and get ready.
“Sugar?” You questioned, worried she was about to hang up.
“Hm?” She hummed.
“Thank you.” It was two words but sometimes you needed to hear it. How much Mikey loved you, he didn’t tell you often, but you felt it, you saw it. But now, that he was gone, that all that was left of Mikey for you was the things he left at your place, the memories you shared, you took the antidotes Sugar occasionally told you and kept them someplace special.
“I’ll see you in the chaos.” Sugar replied back to you in which you did the same.
For a few seconds after the phone call, you stood there, staring at the gutted restaurant, staring at the mayhem happening behind the glass, which was normal for the restaurant, whether it was in business or not. But right now, standing outside, in the peace of the quiet reminded you of those late nights in the kitchen, and you were destined to hold onto that peace for just a few more minutes.
Eventually, you joined the chaos. Greeting everyone as you made your way through the renovation. Finding yourself getting swept up into something in the immediate first seconds you entered the front door. After an hour or so, when you wrapped up your job in the front, you made your way to the kitchen.
“What’re you doing?” You placed your stuff down in the office as you walked past Richie, Fak, and Marcus who were gathered around someone’s phone watching a video, arguing back and forth. Natalie stood up from the chair in the office and placed a hand on your shoulder in a half greeting and walked over to the arguing men. Your eyes lingered on the office table and chair a little longer than normal, letting the memories flood into your brain for a short few seconds before you turned to put your attention back on everyone.
“Scraping and painting and fighting over moving the lockers.” Marcus spoke up.
You turned around and stepped out of the office, staring at them trying to attempt to move the lockers. Carmy had appeared now, yelling at them to keep it down and when the mention of Mikey’s locker still being locked was announced, that’s when everyone silences.
“Just fuckin’ open it.” Carmy spoke up.
A hat. June 5th, 2010. Taste of Chicago. The booth.
You smiled at that. You weren’t there for the booth, but you heard all about it. From the family, but from Mikey, it was one of the many stories he’d tell you over and over and honestly, you’d do anything to hear him tell it 200 more times.
Carmy handed the hat to Richie, and as he turned around his eyes fell on your.
“Yo, uh, I got something for you.” He said and walked right past you into the office, searching for something. As everyone went back to working, you turned and took a few steps towards Carmy as he moved the papers around looking for something.
“So, uh, we’re sending Ebra and Tina to culinary school, for them to stay sharp, learn some new shit, and uh, I–we, Syd and I figured you didn’t want or honestly really need that, so uh–here!” He proclaimed the last word louder than the rest as he found the envelope with your name written on it and handed it to you.
You looked down at it for a second and then back at Carmy, you two didn’t talk much in general, but you definitely didn’t talk much about him.
“You and Syd…” You started to say as you mindlessly tapped the envelope against your skin. “You uh,” You wanted to say that the two of them reminded you a lot of you and Mikey, the effortlessness in the kitchen, the way their ideas just bounced off each others and how they brought this new sense of life to each other. But it was that last thought that weighed heavy on you. There was a point that Mikey brought a new sense of life to you and you did the same to him but unfortunately that emotion, that feeling, had changed at some point, at no ones fault but it didn’t stop you from not cherishing it more. “Just, don’t take it for granted.”
“Yea, yea.” Carmy nodded, getting where you were coming from but also not really wanting to get into it and you were okay with that because you didn’t want to get into it either.
Carmy’s eyes moved down to the envelope and back to you. Taking the hint you nodded. “Right.” You said quickly and began to rip the envelope open. As your hand reached in and pulled out the papers in the envelope, you saw the word United and then followed by a seat and time and that’s when you saw the airports.
ORD – NAP
Naples International Airport.
“Carmy.” You looked up, eyes shocked.
“It’s what Mikey would’ve wanted.” Carmy nodded and walked by you, taking his hand to rest on your shoulder and then tap it as he exited the office.
You stared down at the tickets, trying to take in everything.
“You, me, and Italy, Mikey.”
gluten & dairy intolerant and sick as shit: a “what the fuck do i eat?” primer
most gluten-free, dairy-free (hereafter abbreviated gf/df) recipe sites are so clearly written by people who have the energy to cook - consistently enough that they don’t need to worry about food spoiling - and money for tons of ingredients and equipment. as a person who’s bedridden a large portion of the time, this is useless as shit!
so here’s how i’ve kept myself alive the past 6+ months for other sick folks looking for a realistic starting point, in descending order from least to most energy required. in addition to being gf/df, i can’t eat raw vegetables or red meat, need to avoid/minimize seeds and artificial sweeteners, and try to minimize soy when possible, so these suggestions align with that.
as always, check the labels first! other folks feel free to add on with any suggestions!
meals
gf cereal - chocolate gf off-brand rice krispies are a go-to low-energy meal that can also be a snack
bananas with peanut butter
rice cakes are my best friend - they’re like 4x cheaper than gf bread and the easiest option i’ve found so far. my go-to is rice cake, vegan cheese, 4 slices of deli chicken, a pinch of salt; 4 of those makes a filling meal for me
gf toast with peanut butter or butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar
gf oatmeal in the microwave, seasoned with brown sugar and cinnamon. if you need to avoid cross-contamination, make sure to only purchase oat products that are certified gluten-free; they can easily get cross-contaminated from wheat in the field
tofu scramble - season with curry powder, garlic and onion powder, chili powder, and salt. add whatever veggies you want - i do (frozen or canned) spinach, mushrooms, and tomatoes
gf chicken nuggets - if i have a little extra energy i’ll make a vegan ranch using a vegan mayo base
gf/df pizza - they’re expensive. i’m sorry.
gf/df nachos - vegan mince with gf taco seasoning, olives, vegan cheese, corn tortillas chips. for a lower-energy version, i melt vegan cheese on tortilla chips in the microwave and add torn-up deli chicken and seasoning
frozen gf fries - plain or with vegan cheese sauce, vegan cheese, and/or vegan mince (seasoned with garlic powder, chili powder, paprika, and salt)
rice with ingredient - canned beans and/or peas; canned tuna cooked with curry powder; frozen edamame and canned salmon cooked with gf (tamari) soy sauce, honey, and chili powder
fish tacos - frozen fish cooked with cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt, pepper; cilantro-lime rice; avocado if you’re up for peeling/cutting; vegan cheese; corn tortillas
snacks
pre-popped popcorn
tortilla chips
gf/df cookies
gf/df chips (crisps) - in the UK, Seabrook is a great gf brand, and the classic ones are df as well
gf/df protein or granola bars
gf/df ice cream
tangerines, clementines, etc - they last longer than other fruits
I wish you’d write a fic where impulse is severely nutritionally definitely cause all he eats are snacks and he has a crazy metabolism so his friends have to start cooking for him
I would SAY Tim is the one who notices, but Tim Drake survives on Bat-approved nutrition bars and illegal energy drinks and Alfred forcing him to come to regularly-scheduled Batfamily dinners, not anything as crazy as "deliberately interrupting casework to feed himself at reasonable intervals". I would say CASSIE is the one who notices, but her powers are godly-blessing-based and probably don't actually require a balanced diet to maintain. Suzie doesn't have to eat at all, and Cissie and Anita just have normal human metabolisms. Like, Olympian-athlete normal, but normal.
So it's Kon and Slobo who one day both pause mid-conversation, SLOWLY turn their heads, and stare DIRECTLY at the mountain of cheap generic-brand snack wrappers that their skinny-ass speedster left all over the base again and are both like ". . . wait."
And then it's Kon and Slobo who can't either of them cook worth a damn who wreck the kitchen arguing about how to make fucking spaghetti or something and why humans CAN'T eat arsenic or fucking CYANIDE, no it doesn't make it TASTE better, jfc--I SAID NO, SLOBO, PUT DOWN THE RAT POISON--!
And Bart just sits there on the other side of the kitchen counter with a very full mixing bowl of undercooked spaghetti and a whole loaf of overdone garlic bread in front of him and just feels very, very LOVED right now, okay?
Surprise Surprise - - Mason Mount x reader.
summary: a surprise taken a different route when you suddenly meet his mother at his house…
based on a recent request i received 🫶🏻
Your feet were starting to ache as you stood in the checkout line at the grocery store. Your eyes roamed at the small cart filled with different veggies, pasta, garlic bread, meat, chips, and snacks. Making sure to get Mason his favorite chocolate chip cookies and red wine, along with a deck of cards to play.
After a disappointing game at stamford bridge, you wanted something that’ll cheer him up. Originally your plan was to stay at your flat and have a nice relaxing night, but he deserved it after the week he’d had.
You gently placed the items for the young woman to scan. “Give me just one sec!” you pleaded as you ran off to get a bouquet of roses. After paying you loaded the bags of groceries into the back of your car making your way to Mason’s house.
“Hi Andre! How are you?” you greeted the security guard at the community gate showing him the authorization code. “Great Ms. Y/n! He isn’t home yet, but I'm guessing you have something up your sleeve?” his tone coming off in a teasing way. You smiled and nodded.
“Nothing really, just a nice meal and relaxing night,” you replied, he gave you a nod understanding. “We’ll i’ll make sure he doesn’t suspect a thing, have a nice evening Ms. Y/n!”.
“You as well! Be safe and careful!”
Soon enough his house smelled wonderfully. With the food on the stove, the cookies baking, the mixture of spices! You stirred the alfredo pasta slowly, making sure it didn’t thick up or didn’t get runny.
You cut up the cooked chicken into small slices, as well as the garlic bread. After washing your hands, you took out the cookies and set them up in the glass plate he had on his marble countertops.
Mason wouldn’t be long, after a game like tonight, the team gives each other pep talks. Avoiding being up how they played for another day. Your phone began to ring, seeing Andre’s name flash across the screen. You frowned and answered the call quickly.
“Hi Andre! Is everything okay?” your voice was shaky, he stayed quiet before answering. “Well Ms. Y/n, Mason's mother is on her way. Along with her husband and Lewis.”
“I figured I'd let you know, since you were planning to surprise him,” he continued. Your throat closed up, unsure of what to say. “Uh thank you for letting me know!” you quickly said goodbye running your hand over your forehead.
Your relationship wasn’t fairly new or old. The two of you talked about meeting your families, but not under these conditions. You’ve heard nothing but great and supportive things from them. Always being there for your Mase.
Did they know who you were? Has Mason ever brought you up? Would they think you’d be enough for him? All the questions unanswered blocked your senses. You knew if you started to overthink it would lead to a small panic attack.
After practicing some breathing exercises you’ve done with Mason, you ran to the bathroom fixing yourself up, applied a bit of perfume on your wrist and threw your hair up in a bun. Your outfit was one of his black nike hoodies with some slight boot cut jeans.
You stayed in the kitchen coming out when they appeared in the living room. “Smells good in here, did he cook before leaving?” his mother asked. You stood in the hall unsure. She gasped when seeing your figure, the rest of them following her movements.“I’m sorry dear, but who are you?” she asked.
“I’m sorry, so rude of me! I’m Y/n, it’s very nice to meet you,” she saw you as a nice person and shook your hand. “Likewise. Please call me Debbie, this is my husband Tony and my other son Lewis. Mason didn’t mention he’d have a friend over?”
Friend? So they didn’t know about you… Disappointment grew inside you. Becoming kinda sad at the thought. You’d figured maybe, just maybe, but you stood corrected. Did he even want to introduce you, after saying he would? Or keep you private like always?
You shyly waved seeing them chuckle. “No no! Me being me wanted to surprise him after tonight's game.”
“Ohhh I see! Well I'm sorry, if I had an idea Mason was going to have a friend over I would’ve helped you sweetie,” she walked beside you into the kitchen seeing the area lit up with candles and the roses in the middle of his dining table.
“You did this? It looks amazing! Don’t get me started on the smell! What did you make?” She appreciated your work walking around seeing how everything was decorated. “I made some alfredo pasta, with garlic bread, and some chocolate chip cookies,” you said, becoming more comfortable around her.
“His favorite,” she teased, seeing you blush. “Lucky guess?” you shrug your shoulders. “There’s more than enough food if you’d like, please help yourself,” you urged. They gladly took the white bowls and filled them up with pasta and bread.
After offering drinks they settled with red wine. “I'll help,” Lewis offered and you nodded. You excused yourself and went to the front of the house where he kept the wine cooler. “So you’re the infamous Y/n! They might not know you but I sure do. I’m Lewis, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you!” he said.
So maybe not his parents but his brother knew you? “You’re the infamous Lewis, likewise,” he pulled you into a comforting hug, laughing then pulling away. “I didn’t want to mention anything in front of them, respecting your guy’s relationship of course,” he said leaning on the doorway.
“Thank you, truly! I’m still in shock, I've heard amazing things from them, and meeting them under different circumstances threw me off guard,” you admitted. He shook his head understanding. “Talk to him about it, I saw the flash of sadness wave over you when my mother said ’friend’.”
You shared another laugh before grabbing the wine glasses and the red wine. Seeing as Mason wasn’t coming soon, you as well grabbed a bowl. Before you sat down Mason walked in, and took a step back in confusion. You avoided his eyes knowing they were staring right at you.
“Mason, honey!” his mother stood up and hugged him, comforting him after the match tonight. You still refused to look up into those brown eyes you deerly love. “Hello everyone! Y/n nice seeing you…” his voice stern yet so gently and nice.
You started to think this whole surprise idea was a terrible mistake. Maybe you should’ve stayed home and facetimed him like you did. He wouldn’t be in the mood to have this many people after today’s results.
You patted the inner corners of your mouth before replying back, “Hi Mason, I made some dinner if you’re hungry.” They didn’t suspect a thing only Lewis as he gave you those eyes. Mason frowned at your words or maybe how you looked kinda upset.
Mason wanted to talk to you, get some answers to the whole ordeal. He was expecting to come home to an empty and lonely place, but seeing his family and you here was a major throwback. He walked over and pretended to look for something. “Y/n, can you come help me find something in the cellar?”
“I can?” Lewis peeped, but Mason glared at him. “No, it's fine. She knows where it’s at,” he motioned his head over, making you sigh before excusing yourself once again. He interlocked your hands, practically forcing both of you out the room. You flushed seeing the veins on his hands.
He closed the door to the office, placing you on top of the black desk. “I’m sorry! I know this isn’t what you wanted. It was meant to be a surprise, some dinner then a game of cards. I had no idea they were coming, if I did I wouldn’t be here, respecting your time as family of course.”
He shushed you, knowing your body as how it responded to being under lot’s of pressure. He stood between your legs, hugging you tight by your waist. You let out a small sob, but refused to cry. “It’s okay baby. It’s not your fault. Trust me I love the idea of just us two enjoying your surprise. Just calm down and listen to my voice.” He kissed softly across your forehead and temple.
After a few seconds of silence you pulled back and sniffled. You looked up into his face, seeing his bright smile. “I love you Y/n. The little things you do like this. I was already planning for us to meet them at my next game. I mention stuff about you and they tease me because I don’t give them a name. But it looks like you’ve gotten it down my love.”
“They think I'm your friend. A friend who cooked, baked, decorated, and even bought you roses,” you cringed and laughed loudly. He snorted before grabbing your cheeks, you leaned in and kissed him, hearing him hum. “This friend of mine sure is special then,” he joked, making you whack his arm playfully.
“I’m sorry I am. I told Lewis about us way long ago,” he reasoned. “Mason I'm not mad, maybe disappointed at first but none of that anymore,” you reassured him, seeing him relax his shoulder a bit. “I’m all yours after they leave, promise.”
“Okay handsome. Let’s go back out there,” you stood up leaving but he gripped your wrist turning you around, you saw him shake his head. He placed one final kiss before walking off in front of you saying nothing.“You little…”
True to his word he did what he promised. You got along with his parents and Lewis just fine, more than great. Lewis sensed you talked about it slightly and felt comfortable. His parents told stories of him when little, including a time, he refused to leave the training ground because he lost a game to Declan. You told them more about you, them happily hearing even cheering on your success.
Days later it was the Chelsea v Westham match. You had Mason's black jersey on, walking into the tunnels as he led you up the cubbies. There you saw Lauren, Sophia and Paula, waving over at Andrea. After saying quick hellos you followed him to his family. You grew a little nervous but they knew you. As a “friend”…
“Mom. Dad. I'd like you to meet my girlfriend Y/n.”
Law
-Law is a decent cook. He isn’t the best and usually knows how to make the basics, such as rice, pasta, chicken, and Japanese curry.
-He is really good at making onigiri (Riceball) they are easy to make, easy to snack on while working and he can eat a lot.
-He just knows enough to survive and get some flavor in his food to make it edible
-He really doesn’t experiment with food as he wouldn’t know how or what to do or barely understands the difference between spices and what flavors would mix well together.
-But he can follow directions to T when it comes to a recipe book, but if it is a more complicated recipe, he might have difficulty following and feel a bit more overwhelmed and there would be some directions he barely understands.
-He really isn’t a fan of cooking or cares for it too much as he just looks for what is edible and good. He would rather spend his time in his books studying, working, or training. He doesn’t have time to cook.
-He will however take time or practice took with his S/O or for his S/O if they want him to.
-He will care about his S/O’s health and while he wouldn’t have the best diet, skipping meals. He will care about his S/O making sure they eat and eat healthily.
Tumblr media
Ace
Butter Squid, or Jinmichae or Ojingeochae, is a Korean snack, typically jerky.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't know if it's usually eaten at movie theaters, but I found this recipe specifically for Movie Theater Butter Squid.
I went with the snack and not the Garlic Butter Squid Calamari dish that comes up when you just straight look up "butter squid" because, one, Korean-based game, and two, since it's a movie update I went with the snack because I don't expect people to bring whole dinner plates to the movies.
This is for anymore who was curious on what Butter Squid is for our new director.
Don't skip the resting time: Keto bread recipes often call for allowing the batter to rest for a few minutes. This step helps the dough absorb the moisture, leading to a better final texture.
Vegan/Vegetarian shopping list:
Pre Made salad bags (it’s a lot cheaper to just buy bagged salad and add to it, then buying a bunch of ingredients that will go bad if not used)
Make a list of fruits and vegetables that you like and get them (some times if you get the funky shaped ones you get a few cents off, even if you don’t that stops the funky shaped produce from being tossed)
Nut butters (most almond and peanut butters are vegan, jelly and Jams aren’t because they’re made with gelatin)
Bread, check the ingredients because a lot of breads are accidentally vegan/vegetarian ( Vegetarian/Vegan (link) Sandwiches will be your best friend)
Pasta (like bread a lot of pasta is accidentally vegan, CHECK THE INGREDIENTS)
Rice and beans are some of the cheapest things to buy, buy them dry and you can have them for a while in your pantry
Google vegan ramen, (if you’re like me and love spicy ramen then you’ll be happy to know Samyang 2x spicy hot chicken flavor Ramen in the red pack is VEGAN they use artificial chicken flavor rather then animal products. Vegan Kimchi regular and spicy is a lot easier to find then you may think just look for ones without fish sauce and shrimp)
Tofu (tofu is very versatile and it’s great source of vegan/vegetarian protein made from soy, it takes flavor beautifully and it’s relatively cheap firm/extra firm is best)
Cheese (there are so many vegan cheese options, for grated parmigiana follow your heart has both grated and shredded, Violife has a block. Violife has the best shredded substitutes, and singles. Daiya is a little weird in my opinion however they’re cheddar dairy free Mac and cheese is amazing (you just gotta use different pasta then it comes with)
Meat substitutes ( We’ve come a long way with decent vegan meat substitutes, beyond meat makes a whole variety of plant based meat substitutes that are very tasty especially if you’re still craving that meaty texture. Impossible meat substitutes also has amazing plant based meat substitutes, Impossible also has vegan chicken nuggets that tastes like McDonald’s and even have dino shaped ones. Light life has everything from vegan sausage crumbles to Bacon, the vegan bacon and hot dogs are amazing)
Eggs (just egg and simply egg are planted based substitutes for eggs, they’re liquid like an egg beater but can be used in place of eggs from a scramble to a baking ingredient)
Dairy (Vegan milk/coffee creamer you got options coconut, almond, soy, oat, pea protein. Pick what you like best. Personally California farms Oat milk in original and California farms oat vanilla creamer are my favorites. I’ll throw cream cheese and Yogurt in here as well Kite Hill regular and Strawberry cream cheese are my favorite, Kite Hill blue berry, and Strawberry vegan yogurt are my favorite. MIYOKO’S vegan butter)
Snacks (Lenny and Larry’s plant based chocolate chip cookies, Spudsy sweet potato puffs they have a million different flavors I like the hot fries. Vegan rob’s dragon puffs these are the vegan equivalent to hot Cheeto puffs but without the red dye 40. Vegan rob’s also has cheese puffs)
Sauces (Anne’s goddess dressing is very tangy, Diaya blue cheese and Caesar dressings are amazing, can be thick though, they also have ranch but I got a vegan homemade ranch recipe. Hot sauce, Franks, Cholula, Tabasco, and Tapatío are vegan. Ketchup& mustard are vegan. Hellmans and follow your heart have vegan mayonnaise,Sir Kingston’s and Follow your heart also have chipotle Mayo. Follow your heart also has vegan sour cream)
Seasonings (seasons you should have in your cabinet click here, the dollar tree sells all these for a dollar and most grocery stores sell adobo)
hi!!! i was wondering if you had any tips for going into a cal deficit for someone that really enjoys food for its flavor? do you have any flavorful low cal meals/snacks? this is my biggest struggle because all the enjoyable food i eat is very high in calories :/
Heey! I totally get your struggle lol. Here are some things you can do:
Have alternatives that are lower in calories
(kinda obvious and boring, I know, but let's start here)
Try switching to zero calorie drinks, light versions of sauces, 0% or low fat milk, yoghurts, sweeteners, eggs to egg whites (or mix both), fried food to baked food, fatty meat to lean meat etc. Whatever that's going to be similar but lower in calories.
Examples:
Craving a Big Mac? You can make a Big Mac salad. You know there's lettuce, onions and pickles in your regular Big Mac, so make it the base of your salad. Make a low calorie version of Big Mac sauce (like you can get light mayonnaise instead of regular one and mix it with a 0% fat yoghurt). There are some really good recipes online.
Craving fries? Have them baked instead of deep fried, so they are lower in calories, but still taste nice with some ketchup.
Search for low calorie recipes like soups and salads that include herbs, spices and flavourful food that is low in calories like mushrooms, onions, pickles, garlic, ginger, kimchi etc.
Mix your favourite food that is high in calories with food that is really low in calories
Examples:
Craving fried chicken? Have 2 wings instead of 5, with a salad on the side or just cut the meat and mix it with a salad. Have a bite of the thing you like, have some salad, repeat. It's still enjoyable and you end up being full.
Craving a strawberry shake? Get a small one (or share it with someone) and have water on the side. Drink some of your shake, drink some water, repeat. It's going to make you full and water seems to taste better after having a taste of sugar too lol
...or just drink as much water/tea as you can before having a meal
It's easier to enjoy a small portion of your favourite food when feeling full. Also try to chew it slowly so you can really focus on the taste.
Now, these might not be the best advices, but really helped me when desperate:
Just chew your food and spit it out. Might take some practice to resist the urge to swallow (lol I can't) but this actually saved my ass from binges many times when I felt this urgent need to stuff my face with food asap, yk.
Eat some salt/hot spices/hot sauce. This one helped me to resist cravings for salty/fried food. I'd even carry around a small bottle of hot sauce or this soup sachet from instant noodles when I was going out and had a hard time resisting cravings lol.
Anyway-
I hope it's going to get easier for you soon. Good luck!
Good afternoon!
A question for Murdock, what food do you enjoy cooking the most?
A more general question, what are each of the Rising Volt Tackler’s favorite foods?
I like to cook a lot of things. I mean, I pretty much know how to cook almost anything I'd find outside. From berries to a basic stir fry. But if I had to pick a favorite? Then it would be a roast. I mean if you're asking for my intel on what each member of the team likes to eat here it is: Friede: That'd be grilled steak, I'd say he enjoys it the most. His plate gets wiped in a mere few seconds. Orla: Orla? You'll always see her snacking on something like dried vegetables or pickles, or she'll add extra greens in her meals. Mm, her favorite dish? It has to be roasted vegetables in olive oil with garlic. Mollie: That's an easy one. Fish, she loves eating all kinds of fish. Whenever ludlow catches one while fishing it usually ends up going to her. Liko: Hmm.. She's not much of a picky eater. This might surprise you, but she actually likes tofu. She loves noodles too. She absolutely loves it when I cook a noodle based dish. Roy: Oh, he's a meat lover like Friede. I mean, he loves his meat. All kinds of meat. If there's something that has meat in it, he'll probably enjoy eating it. Again, not much of a picky eater. Dot: Yes, She eats my cooking- Sometimes... she prefers light dishes that are easy on the stomach. And yeah, believe it or not she's got a sweet tooth, so she usually craves stuff like pastries. -Murdock
