Writer’s ask game: anything you haven’t already been asked or answered
😘
4. How do you channel characters' voices and personalities? I watch scenes over and over again, and honestly I find reading other fic helpful. This sounds awful, but reading examples of something that isn't in their voice or matching their personality makes it clearer when it's right.
6. Do you prefer writing shorter, standalone fics or longer, multi-chapter stories? I definitely lean toward one-shots. (And let me just call myself out here... I've written one multi-chapter fic and it's been sitting unfinished for 5+ years 🙈) So if I was to try to tackle another multi-chapter idea, I'd need to have a clear vision for how to have it play out.
8. Do you have any rituals or habits that help you get into the zone? No, but I really should try to create some lol.
9. Have you ever collaborated with someone else on a fic? Yes! It's a fun challenge and I'm excited to do it again!
13. What's the most challenging aspect of writing fanfiction for you? Feeling confident in my ideas. That feels like a stupid thing to say, but I struggle with coming up with ideas for stories. If I have a vision, I can (usually) execute it, but so often I find myself questioning if an idea is worth writing or not. (Also summaries, they're a bitch!)
16. How important is it to you to stay true to the original creator's vision while writing fanfiction? It's extremely important to me. To me, that's the whole point of fanfiction - you love the characters enough that you want to play with them! If you throw their original characterizations out the window, you're just writing original fiction and plugging in the characters' names. [steps down from soapbox]
17. What's the most memorable comment or review you've received on one of your fics? Oh man, can I say all of them??? I truly cannot express how much joy a comment brings, and I absolutely go back and re-read them when I'm feeling down about my writing. My favourite is when someone quotes my work back at me, I swear it makes my face hurt from grinning so hard!
19. What's the most unusual or unique setting you've used? I guess the ski cabin because it's so far removed from Los Angeles?
20. How do you approach action sequences or intense moments? Action scenes are scary, and I'm not super keen on tackling that again - but I will say what helps is (I sound like a broken record on this point) having someone you can bounce things around with, and (as stupid as this sounds) blocking it. I mimed kicking my husband down the stairs to figure out where Lucy's foot would connect with her attacker (and good thing I did, because it was way higher up than I'd guessed!)
22. What role does humor play in your writing? Do you enjoy adding comedic elements to your fics? I don't consider myself a funny person. I try to inject humour into my writing sometimes (depending on the situation), but I'm not sure it's super successful!
23. How do you write endings for your fics? Do you prefer open-ended or conclusive conclusions? I hate endings. Hmm maybe this is my answer for #13. I think sometimes you go into a fic knowing exactly how you want it to end (sometimes even down the closing line), and other times I find myself circling the drain, totally lost on the right way to close it. The story never really ends as far as I'm concerned, so I lean more open-ended I guess? Especially since I tend to write more missing moments.
24. What advice would you give to someone who wants to start writing fanfiction? Don't be afraid to ask for help. Check your grammar (little things like your/you're go a loooong way). And please make sure you're spelling characters' names correctly... But truly just go for it. There's an audience out there for pretty much everything!
26. How do you approach plot twists or surprises in your fics? So I'm absolutely evil and absolutely live for this kind of moment. I still feel a sense of (villainous) pride over the plot twist I threw into the end of the opening chapter of an old fic. It's fun keeping people on their toes!
27. What two (or more) fandoms would you like to see a crossover for? Would you ever write it? Do I have to pick? Because I'm truly not a fan of crossover fics, especially between fandoms! And I don't really watch many other shows right now, so it's hard to say. Chenford getting called in to break up a fight between queens on RuPaul's Drag Race? That's the best I can come up with!
29. Are there any characters, relationships, or general character dynamics you've never written about but would like to try? Nearly everything I've written in this fandom is jut Tim and Lucy. Other characters' involvement has ranged from minimal to nonexistent, so I think it would be fun to play with that more. Top of my list would be to write more Tim and Angela moments, because they're my favourite relationship outside of Chenford.
30. How do you handle writing multiple storylines or subplots? I've never tried!
31. Do you prefer writing from a single character's perspective or switching between different viewpoints? I think I prefer picking a single character and writing from their perspective (still in the third person though), but I'm certainly not opposed to switching back and forth.
32. Have you ever participated in fanfiction contests, challenges/fests? YES! @chenfordsecretsanta, we'll see y'all again next year! And I participated in Chenford Week for the first time last summer!
33. How do you incorporate world-building elements into your fics? I haven't really done this, I tend to just stick within the show's universe.
34. Are there any fic writing tips or tricks you've learned along the way that you'd like to share? If you're unsure about dialogue, say it out loud. It's weird but highly effective. And for the love of god, if you wake up in the middle of the night with an idea (because that's always when it happens) make the note. No, you will not remember it in the morning.
Now I need a fucking nap, holyyyyyy. If you've made it to the end, congratulations, you deserve a trophy 🏆

8, 14, and 64!! (If any of these have been picked then pick the ones you want to be asked :) )
YAY thank you, friend!! I've answered a couple of these so I'll pick some fun ones for you. 💕
10. Cltr+f "blinks" on your WIP & copy paste the first sentence/paragraph that comes up Ed blinks and rapidly scrolls up and down the page. That can’t be it. A studio doesn’t just fucking cancel someone that successful. Ed had reviewed all the film grosses, both domestic and international; the numbers were there. And Ed saw the way the man danced; Stede was a phenomenon on his feet. And HB Low just let him fucking get away? Were they absolutely insane?
14. how do you write emotional scenes? Do you ever feel what the characters feel? Do you draw from personal experiences? I rely a lot on music to get me in the right headspace. My go-to song, because I feel it gets into ALL the big Ed/Stede emotions for nearly every situation, is The Story. I will literally listen to every version I have on it on loop for however long it takes while thinking about whatever situation the characters are in and then go. I do sometimes draw from personal experience, but alas, I haven't had a Great Big Love like Ed and Stede, so when it calls for that, it's mostly just the power of imagination.
11. Link your three five favorite fics right now I haven't had as much time as I'd like to be reading, but a few that are lingering on my brain right now!
2 Fluff 2 Furrious by @monksofthescrew: the sequel to the PHENOMENAL Fluff. Summary: In which Ed and Stede and their (!) ten (!!) dogs take an unhinged and perhaps ill-advised roadtrip in a dog bus. It's cute. It's emotional. It's Ed and Stede stupidly in love with SO MANY CUTE DOGS. And it's an absolutely impeccable Ed voice. WIP, just one chapter for now, but I've read the next and it's SO GOOD.
Moment of Truth by @trans-top-stede and karawrites: It's the most gloriously frustrating time loop; set during 2x06, Ed and Stede can't come until they learn how to fucking TALK TO EACH OTHER!!!!! I'm a few chapters behind and I am very excited to catch up this weekend, but oh my god, the EMOTIONS and the SEX it's all so good.
The Incident at Direfold Manor by @helloimjennsco: GOOD SPOOKY HORROR. It's the kind of uncomfortable feeling, something lurking in the shadows watching you vibe and it's SO UNSETTLING I LOVE IT AND AM SO CURIOUS TO SEE WHERE IT GOES. Still a WIP, and this is one I'm REALLY glad to be reading as it posts because the twisty turnies are so tasty.
The Tolling Bells by @edsbacktattoo: Recently completed, absolutely gorgeous fic with a unique premise that feels all the more poignant after the cancellation. I just keep thinking about how there is NO POSSIBLE UNIVERSE THAT EXISTS, real or fictional, where Ed and Stede DON'T find each other and fall in love, and how lucky we are to get to witness that. Good shit.
I Spit on Your Grave by @epersonae: A complete one shot! I have accepted this fic as canon now. The conversation Ed and Stede have is one I was really craving in S2, and this version of it scratches that itch perfectly. And because it's epersonae, you know it's some really beautiful, emotional, evocative writing.

hello dear
P:  Where did you find the most inspiration for your story The Ring-In?
all the credit for the ideas behind the ring in has to go to @dustratcentral aka ifyoustay aka my beloved trash goblin 💜
I recall an interview given post season 3 where there were hypotheses about a wedding/honeymoon in hawaii, and rosie and I looked at each other and said "why wait? send them to someone else's wedding in hawaii!"
and suddenly that devolved into 3am messages of "you know what tarlos should do? food swap" and "you know that kid we decided to write in? make her more unhinged" and "you know what the fandom deserves? carlos getting railed. write it."
and thus, the ring in was born. also, this reminds me I have to write the sequel, which is impossibly more rogue, so THANK YOU FOR THIS ASK!
pictoral reference is rosie to me at all times:

20 Questions for Fic Writers!
Thanks for the tag, @thefinaljediknight
How many works do you have on AO3?
Four
What's your total AO3 word count?
10,370
What fandoms do you write for?
A Series of Unfortunate Events/All the Wrong Questions by Lemony Snicket and The Secret Series by Pseudonymous Bosch.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Associates (A Series of Unfortunate Events/All the Wrong Questions)
Without Shedding a Tear (The Secret Series)
Unsafe Territory (All the Wrong Questions)
Places (A Series of Unfortunate Events/All the Wrong Questions)
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I usually do in order to show my gratitude that someone took the time to leave a comment.
What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
It's either Places or Without Shedding a Tear. I can't quite decide which one oozes out more misery.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Associates. Well, to be fair, it's been my only fic with a happy ending thus far.
Do you get hate on fics?
Fortunately not.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
No.
Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I don't write crossovers, but did imagine some insane mashups of basically all the media I ever consumed as a kid. And sometimes, I scribbled them down. Those were dark times.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
No. Is that a thing?
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not yet.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No.
What's your all-time favorite ship?
I don't ship. Romance isn't my genre.
What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I am lucky enough to no longer have such a thing.
What are your writing strengths?
Definitely dialogue. Give me two arguing characters, and I'm happy. Conflict, story, it's all there.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Descriptions. They're the curse of my existence.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
This one is tricky. I haven't written dialogue in a different language from the rest of the fic before, but I'm not an English native speaker, so you might say I'm writing dialogue in another language all the time. Thoughts? Dialogue is the easy part.
First fandom you wrote for?
Depends on how you define writing. Technically, it was a children's book called Peter and Anneli's Journey to the Moon, for which I scribbled down my ideas for a sequel when I was six. (Again, dark times.) The first fandom I actually published for was The Secret Series.
Favorite fic you've ever written?
What a cruel question! How can you expect anyone to choose between their babies?! If I absolutely had to choose, I'd probably pick Without Shedding a Tear, because it was the first fic I published, the one that ignited the spark. And because the Secret Series fandom is so tiny it needs some extra sympathy.
Tagging (no pressure), @volunteerfelinedetectives, @dragoneyes618, @acacia-may, @jacobsnicket, @accidentallylita, @cleverqueencommander, @tangentiallly, @sianitha-snicket, and whoever else wants to play!

I was tagged by @tokkias in this WIP-Share game, so here we go!
rules: share the first line (or two or more!) of every current wip you have (that you feel comfortable sharing) and tag some writer friends! feel free to add the titles of your documents if you see fit
\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Dragon Bound (Chaptered)
“The only question that matters is this: How do we choose?” Murmurs lifted around the room again before someone cut in loudly.
“Ultear! You can’t seriously be in line with this idea!” The small-framed older man crossed his arms over his chest, his frown deepening.
“I see no other alternative Yajima. Four of those dragons are ravaging our nation, killing at will. If the sacrifice of one person can stem their bloodlust, then the only question that needs answering is…how do we choose?”
Villainy (Working Title, Chaptered)
The first time he saw her was at some high society function, he didn’t remember which one. They were young, no more than 6 and 7 years old. The adults were talking around him when he noticed the blonde girl in her puffy blue dress and shiny black shoes. She was holding an elegant woman’s hand and kicking her feet aimlessly. He tugged on his father’s sleeve insistently.
“Dad, can I go play with her?” he asked when Igneel leaned down to him. His father glanced over at the child his son indicated and smiled.
“Of course you can. Mind your manners, son,” he warned lightly. Natsu beamed at his father and practically bounced across the room. Igneel watched his son completely forget his manners, failing to bow to the girl or her mother.
No Title
Natsu tugged at the stiff collar of his shirt. He knew he was lucky to be a footman, especially in a house as prestigious as the Heartfilia Estate, but that didn’t make the uniform any less itchy. He was grateful for his promotion, truly. He’d never expected (or wanted) to be more than just a kitchen boy. What job could be better? The work was heavy and the hours long, but he was a strong young man, so it never bothered him. Besides that, working in the kitchens gave him ample opportunity to swipe a bit of whatever Mirajane, the cook, was making that day.
But being a footman meant more free time, better pay, and better perks. As a footman, he would get to travel a bit, instead of getting left behind all the time. An empty manor could be an adventure of its own, but he wanted to see the world more than he wanted to explore the empty gardens that he already knew back to front. Footmen also had a better chance of being taken seriously when trying to buy land or a home, and Natsu wanted nothing more than to build a home along a river somewhere and while his days away fishing and dreaming.
No Title
“So, what is it like when you become E.N.D.?”
Natsu looked over at her. Lucy was laying on her stomach, waving her bare legs in the air as she read through a book. She was sitting up on her elbows now, looking up at him. “What’s got you thinking about that all of a sudden?” he wondered.
Lucy ran a slender finger along the page of her book. Something I read in here reminded me of that Tartaros guy, Jackal. He was able to choose between his forms at will, remember? Can you do that? Or is he something separate from you entirely?”
Natsu hummed thoughtfully, trying to remember the feelings he’d experienced in his limited transformations. “I think I could learn to do it….I remember what happens when I take his form, so it’s not like I’m….gone or anything. Lucy nodded and tapped her lip thoughtfully.
Futures (Working Title, One Shot)
“Lucy, now that it’s over, I just…. I wanna hold her. What do you think? You would know her better than I do…is she ready?” he asked the stone. “Did your Natsu ever manage to tell you how he felt? I don’t think he would have. He didn’t have to watch you die.” He fell silent for a long time, just staring at the tree branches sightlessly.
“I think about that a lot. Did he love you as much as I love her? Did you love him too? ……Does she?” His voice was barely above a whisper. He glanced over at the stone and sat up on his elbows. “I wish things could have been different for you and him. I hope you find each other again,” he murmured. He pushed himself into a squat and gazed at the flowers he’d left.
“Happy Birthday Lucy,” he said gently before standing up. “Wish me luck.”
There you go! A hand full of snippets for snacking! I'd love to hear your thoughts or feedback, and to see what you are working on too! I think Tokkias already tagged all my writing friends except @kiliinstinct.

🕯️, 🛼 ,🍄 , 🍬
🕯️: on a scale from 1 to 10, how much do you enjoy editing? why is that?
Maybe a 7? I’m a big believer in “you discover the story you’re writing while you’re editing it”, and fixing does feel satisfying, but…it does feel a little demoralizing sometimes to realize that stuff you thought worked…actually doesn’t 😅 it helps having an outtakes document though, so I don’t have to send deleted words into the void
🛼: Describe your latest wip with five emojis
😭🥺🔥🫂🧐
🍄 : Share a headcanon for one of your favourite ships or pairings
Since I’ve got ATLA on the brain (I’ve been watching NATLA with a friend and it’s been making me miss the OG)…here’s one for my dearly beloveds, Maiko:
Mai and Zuko got married pretty quickly after the war. They still had communication issues to work through, and had to figure out how to get back to where they used to be, but they knew there was no one else for each other but them 💞
(Comics? What comics? I’ve never heard of those)
Izumi was born several years later, when they felt more solid and secure in their relationship and felt more ready to have a child (and after the Sages stopped pressuring them to have a child. They took their sweet time, thank you very much)
🍬: Post an unpopular opinion about a popular fandom character
Ooh here’s one: Amunet Black is not funny or quirky, and Caitlin working with her should’ve been WAYYYY more criticized than it was. Really, Caitlin should’ve been going undercover to take Amunet down, like in your wonderful fic :D

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ POV ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
(Ask Game)
POV: something that’s already happened, retold from another character’s perspective
This is a super fun one to consider, and right away I thought of Sweet Dreams Are Made of Bees, because Benrey is being SO weird for that whole fic due to The Situation. So let's see a small snippet of what was going on with him that covers a short span between Chapters 2 and 3:
"Hey, Benrey," Gordon says, and how is he so calm? Benrey nearly ripped his arm off just a few minutes ago, but he's - it's like he's ignoring it, and that's never happened before. He's not making any sense, he's not working right, and there's nothing Benrey can do about it but continue to listen. “I’m...having trouble with this. How do you think Dr. Coomer would explain this situation to me?”
Oh. Now there's an idea. Benrey thinks about it for a moment. He's never had another person in this space - another real person, like really real - but it makes sense that since they both know Dr. Coomer, they should be able to come up with a pretty accurate...puppet, or whatever they're called. He can't think of the word right now. He can't think of much without his thoughts circling back around to - yes, that, exactly. Stop thinking about that.
Benrey huffs quietly and shrugs. Only one way to find out if this will work, and that's to try it. “Why don’t you, uh, why don’t you ask him?”
"What?" Gordon sounds distracted, and Benrey risks a quick glance at his face. Luckily, he's peering over Benrey's shoulder with that focused expression that suggests Joshua is about to do something that Gordon believes is reckless. Here, in this place, his green eyes glow like the slime Dr. Coomer loves so much (and claims to be allergic to).
Benrey knows better now than to try to mention that - apparently "slime" isn't an acceptable thing for human eyes to be compared to. But Benrey likes the color, and doesn't understand why - oh, right, can't think about that. Can't think about this. Think about - think about Dr. Coomer, and his way with words, how he can describe things, how he's so smart even if he says dumb things about Benrey wanting to stay with Gordon...
"Wait, what?" Gordon says, startling, and Benrey slams his eyes closed and wrenches at the image in his stupid dumb brain. It's worked before - don't think about that - it can work again, he has to make it work again -
“Hello Gordon!” Dr. Coomer says cheerily as he lands heels-down on the ground several feet away.
“Dr. Coomer?!” Gordon yelps as Coomer steps forward and collapses soundlessly into a cross-legged position next to him and Benrey.
“Hello, Gordon!” Dr. Coomer says again. “Hello, Security Chief Boper!”
Wait, why would he - oh, right, that tracks. Benrey was trying to make a version of him that would put Gordon more at ease. But he still has to check for himself, and there's only one way to be sure. “Hey, uh, you got credentials? Passport, or...can I see it please?”
“Hang on -” Gordon starts to say, but Dr. Coomer is already handing Benrey a brown leather bifold with an embossed seal on the front. Benrey nearly sighs in relief when he can read the words on the seal. He forgets why that's important right now, and he doesn't have the brain-space to think about it. (Don't think about it don't think -)
To distract himself, Benrey flips the bifold open and peers at the inside. There's a picture of Dr. Coomer - oddly blurry, but that might be Gordon's influence, Benrey's not sure - and another set of seals and stamps and information that Benrey honestly doesn't care about right now. Normally he could use it to verify where he was, but he knows all too well at the moment. He doesn't need a reminder in text.
Instead, Benrey flips the bifold closed and sinks his aching teeth into the soft material, the taste of dusty leather bursting across his tongue. He's been clenching his jaw so hard that it's a relief to bite something like this, something with give. For a moment he almost considers -
Dr. Coomer coughs discreetly, and Benrey yanks the verification out of his mouth. He can't go down that path, no matter how easy it would be. He can't think about it. (Don't think -)
When he hands the bifold back, Dr. Coomer winks at him, a genial smile tucked into his mustache. ...Maybe Benrey made sure he was a version that would put his own mind at ease, as well. Wouldn't that be nice, for once?
“All present and accounted for," Benrey mumbles. "You’re, uh, good to go."
“What the fuck,” Gordon says.
“Hello, Gordon!” Dr. Coomer says again.
Benrey sighs to himself and squeezes his aching eyes closed. This version of Dr. Coomer should be able to keep Gordon busy and help him figure things out. They're both way smarter than Benrey is when it comes to thinking things like this through - probably from all the theoretical...whatevers they have so many of. Doesn't help Gordon when he's trying to figure out how to put together Joshua's newest LEGO kits, but it's gotta be good for something, right? They'll figure it out, and Benrey won't have to think about anything, and then both he and Gordon can wake up and everything will go back to normal and be fine forever.
Right?
Don't think about the other possibilities, don't think about the blood or the gun, don't think about it, don't think -

1, 2, 3 fic writer asks <3
1. Do you prefer writing one-shots or multi-chaptered fics?
one-shots. i like a little self-contained adventure, it must be said.
2. Do you plan each chapter ahead or write as you go?
a little of both? my brain definitely works faster than i write, so i'll eventually start taking down notes for what's to come. i don't believe i've ever known the ending to a fic before starting to write, though, i'm very much a 'let the story take me where it wishes' kind of gal.
3. Describe the creative process of writing a chapter/fic
step one: get an idea that inspires me
step two: pick a title and set up the google doc
step three: write the first couple paragraphs and feel very pleased with myself
step four: hit wall
step five: write anyway
step six: hit new wall
step seven: go over what's already on the page, tweaking and gathering momentum for when i reach the end of what's written and letting the rhythm lead me into new, inspired sentences
step eight: repeat steps four through seven until complete
step nine: read the whole thing over, see how it feels as one entity
(optional) step ten: send to bethany!

1, 5, 10, 18, 21!
1. What inspired you to start writing fanfiction? Having my heart completely and utterly ripped out by canon. My last ship was sunk in the worst possible way (read: they destroyed seasons' worth of character development and contradicted everything we knew about the beloved characters). So my first foray was an attempt to reconcile myself with that.
5. What techniques do you use to create believable dialogue? I watch and rewatch a million times until I feel like I have the characters' voices down, and then as I write I try to really hear the words in the characters' voices in my head. Sometimes I even say lines out loud to make sure it sounds natural.
10. What's your favorite part about the fic writing process? Finishing a fic. It's so satisfying when you wrap something up in a way you feel good about, and then put it out there for others to see. It's super vulnerable, but it's so gratifying. I also love those days where the words are just pouring out. They're rare, but amazing.
18. Are there any fics or authors that have been particularly influential or inspiring to you? Well I have to say @timandlucy because she truly inspired me to start writing in the first place, and for that I am forever grateful. I think I take a little piece of inspiration from everything I read, intentionally or otherwise. You can't read something great and not think about it through yourown lens.
21. Have you ever used fanfiction as a way to explore your own emotions or personal experiences? Already answered this one :)
Thank you!!!! Fic writer asks

20 Qs for Fic Writers
Thank you so much for tagging me, @mppmaraudergirl!
How many works do you have on AO3? Currently, I have 62 works on A03! That is going to change in the next few weeks, but I have to say that I cannot believe that there's 62 works on there.
What's your total A03 word count? My word count is currently at 1,254,232 words.
What fandoms do you write for? I only write for the Harry Potter fandom. I used to write some Gilmore Girls fanfiction, but that's over a decade ago by now. I was very, very, very young when I wrote those fics.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos? I find it incredible to see that a fic that I wrote in the summer of 2017 is still the fic that received most kudos... anyway, here you go! 1. Game of Thrones 2. It Only Takes A Taste (When You Know It's Good) 3. Call It What You Want 4. Knocked Up By My Ex 5. Shout Out To My Ex You can find them all on my AO3!
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I generally do! I have been slacking a bit for the past four chapters of Call It What You Want, but I will reply to those in time too!
What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I tend to write angst with - in general, I would say - a happy ending. One of the angstiest works I have ever written is probably Gold-Plated Love.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I would say that all have a happy ending, especially considering all the ignoring of Jily canon I do. I will, I think, leave this up to my reader!
Do you get hate on fics? I get the odd comment every once in a while. I have to admit that I'm not very good at not letting it get to me. I am trying to be better about it and also am thinking that if 98% of the comments I've ever received are positive, I should not complain.
Do you write smut. If so, what kind? I do, yes. It's all Jily smut and my latest work Call It What You Want - which will be complete tomorrow - is the smuttiest thing I have ever written.
Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? No, I have never been interested in doing so. I write loads of AUs, but crossovers don't really appeal to me.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of!
Have you ever had a fic translated? No, I am fairly certain no one ever did translate one of my fics. Someone once created a podfic for one of mine.
Have you ever cowritten a fic before? No! But I'm looking to change that. @athenasparrow and I are cooking something up.
What's your all-time favourite ship? Jily. There is no other answer.
What's a WIP you want to finish, but doublt you ever will? I plan on finishing all of them, but I can't finish them all at once. Maybe some my extremely old ones... I think I'll want to rewrite them completely if I open them again.
What are your writing strengths? Oh, that's a difficult one! I think one of my strengths is conveying emotion. At least, I hope so, because I work very hard on that one.
What are your writing weaknesses? I am afraid that people will sometimes find my writing repetitive, boring and/or long-winded. But I hope that's not the case.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? Only when it makes sense. It would feel weird if it's out of the blue.
First fandom you wrote for? Gilmore Girls, I wrote Rory/Logan fanfiction. But I must have been 12-14 at the time.
Favourite fic you have ever written? Oh, that's difficult and very much depends on the day and the mood I am in. I have a soft spot for all of my works. But today I'm excited about finishing Call It What You Want, so let's say that one is today's favourite.
Tagging @athenasparrow, @annabtg, @practicecourts and everyone else who would like to be tagged. No pressure on anyone, though!

hello love, R for the alphabet writer asks pretty please? 💖
rae 💜
using this ask to apologise in advance to everyone and anyone but i really felt like doing an ask game so here i am, on your dash.
R: Which writers (fanfic or otherwise) do you consider the biggest influence on you and your writing?
typically, my sources of inspiration include: things i overhear on the train in the morning, internet memes and rogue things that happen to me that i swear would ONLY happen to me. but although i take inspiration from many sources, influence is a different question?
when i started writing fic again, i was deep in the 2021 rwrb obsession and i think my writing was heavily influenced by the work i was literally INHALING at that time.
i think first and foremost i took so much inspiration from @clottedcreamfudge. I mean we all know CCF has depth, but the slightly ridiculous edge to some of her fics felt so on brand for me, and i think reading a lot of the CCF archive taught me to lean into that. the witty dialogue, the pacing, the clever use of side characters to build the story - nailing that is my writing dream.
i feel very inspired when i read any @indomitable-love work because the amount of care and precision written into basically every line of siobhan's fic is incredible. reading ATG was a masterclass in how to take characterisation to another level, and how to build an emotional arc that is hard hitting and makes sense. i had so many 'oh, that really ticked all the emotional boxes for me' moments in that fic. it is truly a treasure.
as we know, i didn't write smut pre-2021. i truly didn't even READ smut. who knows why? anyway i was so convinced i could never write it, UNTIL i read the great works of our lord and saviour aka. you aka. Ms. Rae Rmd-writes Railmedaddy. The ficspiration of the neighbours fic took me out and made me realise like hey...there is actually a lot of skill to this and maybe i could? learn it? and i'm still on that learning journey but i think the think about your E rated scenes is that you weave so much emotion into them - there's a purpose to every smut scene, even if it's a PWP it's driving characterisation in some way. which makes it all very intentional. i find that very inspiring.
i also have to credit @everwitch-magiks for inspiring me every day to be more intentional with my word choice and edit better and WRITE LESS because the amount of stuff evie can pack into a 3k fic is honestly out of this world. but long before i became a ridiculous overwriter, i have been inspired by evie's characterisation (her alex always sounds so perfect to me, in particular) AND her creativity. there are canon fics and then she goes and writes a space AU and also a figure skating AU and magical realism and hashtag soulmates aka. the most beautifully meta thing ever, and a whole fic based around AITA? she has breadth and it makes me kind of mad.
ANYWAY. there are many more but i've already gone on for too long! thank you to everyone who creates stuff for me to read, i know i'm picking up things all the time, and it wouldn't happen if people weren't so damn talented 💜

🛼🥤🍄 for writer truth or dare.
🛼: Describe your latest wip with five emojis
✨🌙💞⚔️😒
🥤: Recommend an author or fanfic you love
Pieces of a Broken Mirror by RetroactiveCon (whose Tumblr I unfortunately don’t know 😅) is the most WONDERFUL post-Mirrorverse fic series, I love it to pieces (…no pun intended), absolutely worth your time if you, like me, were super dissatisfied with how the aftermath of that situation was handled (fics 2-4 in particular for that)
🍄: Share a headcanon for one of your favourite ships or pairings
Iris has loved Barry almost as long as Barry has loved her — she was just nervous to share her feelings for the same reason Barry was (if it was unrequited, they both feared it could ruin their friendship)
And especially after Barry moved in with her and Joe…she didn’t want to lose him 🥺 and as his self-designated forever protector, she vowed not to do anything that might potentially hurt him…including confessing about her feelings for him that he might not share
