Honestly, I stopped using my tumblr drafts/likes to bookmark CC ages ago. Mostly bc I’d just lose what I saved for later anyway in the total mess that is everything else I throw in there.
I use my browser bookmarks instead. Many early access creators will release in monthly intervals. I’ll bookmark their Patreon, and put the date I last checked it in the bookmark’s name, so I know when to check it again.
I also instinctively check for new unlocked CC at the start of every month anyway. Or if I follow their tumblr, whenever they release a new set, it’s likely they’ve unlocked or will unlock an old set fairly soon so I know when to look.
My only other suggestion is… and this is a kinda last resort thing, bc I know everyone hates this site, but I check SimsFinds also, since 98% of anything that gets posted on there is free, anything that isn’t is usually marked as such. Download an ad-blocker so you won’t have to be subjected to their horrors, and no you don’t have to hit the download button and go through the wait timers. Instead, find the url or creators name by either hovering over the preview pic, or looking below it on the download page, and just google it instead, bc fuck that site severely otherwise.
There is one other way to avoid all this mess, but it’s such a hot button issue, honestly if you’re okay with it, it’s likely you’re already doing it anyway, lol.

So I've been sitting on this thought for a bit but. I want to make an informal propaganda post for Gaiaonline! It's a site that's got its pros and its cons, but I feel like it'd really appeal to some of the tumblr crowd, and also I just like to gush about things I like and Gaia is one of those things
So: What is Gaiaonline?
Tumblr media
Gaiaonline is essentially a social/avi dressup site, with a lot of love poured into the site's setting! The big draw of course is having an avatar to personalize and plenty of items to dress them up in, but there's other features as well:
Tumblr media
Such as numerous minigames (more on one of those later), and even manga featuring backstory and escapades of the site's npcs (don't let the cool panel crops fool you though - a lot of it is silly gag bits lol)
There's also a few options for socializing, as well - you can of course dm people, but there's also forums, profile comments, and statuses. The forum even has semi-recently gained the option for night mode! The site also has their own selection of emojis, some standard and some... not so much xD
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of profile - you can have a decently customizable profile! Gaia provides options in-site, but if none of those are your cup of tea then you can use an external url (or photobucket, but they both watermark nowadays and also are switching to pay-only accounts so I don't recommend that option) - you can add images on the profile, and a background, and have multiple text boxes that can be customized for various uses! Gaia also has aquariums that can display on your profile, but I don't use those anymore so I can't say much on them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So your avi isn't the only thing you can stylize! Speaking of which... How about those avis?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can get a wide array of items, and with the right inventory the world is your oyster! There's even a slew of franchise/fandom-inspired items, either from old promotions or just designs made as homages!
Tumblr media
(Example Adventure Time-inspired item on the marketplace - Many users sell their items there, so it's wise to check in from time to time!)
Gaia also historically turns to its userbase for item inspiration, and sells the winning designs from the contests it hosts in the shops, so you could show off your own design tastes if you feel like they're lacking your dream item.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ Example store - complete with a storefront where you can see other user's avatars out front if they're shopping there! The screencap of Moira the NPC is from the middle of the Halloween event they host yearly, hence her dialogue box and Harley Quinn Cosplay.
Don't have money? Not to worry! Gaia offers "Daily Chance" items and money, sometimes including random chance mini-events that can give you some sweet loot AND a fun time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Still, maybe you want something more... Interactive? Not to worry!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Allow me to introduce.... zOMG! A flash game - yes you heard that right, FLASH game - where you can run around and kill things, take on quests from npcs, and earn more gold, make friends and more! As stated, it's a flash game, so they had to come up with some workarounds - but they offer suggestions on-site that work with some success in my experience! The drawback is it can be a bit laggy, but sometimes it's just fun having an excuse to see your avatar run around and shoot things. Or slash things. or fling flaming meteors at things. You know how it is.
All in all, it's a very silly site, but one that I find holds a lot of charm and a place in my heart even now. I can't recommend it enough, and hope this appeals to someone reading. :)
P.S. : CONS OF GAIA
Tumblr media
This post is already too long so I put cons (and some general disclaimers) under the cut, feel free to read at your discretion:
So as much as I like to gush, there are some notable cons to Gaia, which feel noteworthy to share. I only spend my time in the areas of the site covered above, so apologies if there's anything I fail to mention:
The economy. Good Lord, the Economy. It got so bad Gaia literally had to change from Gaia gold to Gaia platinum because the inflation got so bad - and then they never properly addressed the setup that led to this in the first place. If you buy from the Gcash stores or from the regular storefronts, it's nbd - but the marketplace with its auctions and its user-established prices can get downright brutal. Gaia has also taken recently to flooding the daily chance items with high-quality items from days past - which may not be the worst (especially not for new users) but I do strongly suspect it isn't helping the economy front much.
GCash - Personally I find this a drawback, but a lot of Gaia's push, especially of late, is GCash. This makes sense - there aren't a lot of users left atm, so no point in hosting events, but it does get a little old removing announcements for items only available for real money sometimes. This is something I hope would see a change though, if enough people decide to join.
Filters - there are unfortunately some curses and the like banned to keep the site 'friendly' to younger ages which. Sometimes backfires on their own announcements or npc dialogue. You can type and send the word, iirc, but it will get automatically filtered accordingly. That said, avatar items can get exceedingly raunchy, or have curse words in their displays even, so the bar is.... Nebulous, here.
Flash Player - Gaia has been around for a long time, since 2003. A lot of functions are defunct or buggy, or in the case of zOMG! as mentioned above, require an outside party tool to help it run smoothly. They do what they can do address it but it has impacted things and probably will continue to do so.
Social media - I would say this site doesn't quite qualify as such, as the ability to share media is middling at best. You can post writing, or art, using the forums or the journal function, but it's far from ideal. Other aspects, like profile comments, can be clunky for communication purposes, so while Gaia has some decent options, it's not up to speed with the big giants in social sites nowadays.
Mobile app? - there IS an app for phones. But at the moment, it's only for dressing up your avatar - none of the other functions are available. If you use this site for avi dressup, this is no big deal, but it could be better.
There's other cons, but these feel like the big ones to mention.
Tumblr media
Lastly, unrelated but disclaimer: Most of these pictures are my own screenshots, avis, etc, with some minor exceptions - I tried to stick to my own content and accounts (yes I have Several accounts) for showcasing here, when not using official resources. If anyone recognizes themselves or a friend in here and wants it removed/changed/blacked out/etc just give me a shout.
Also, shoutout to @shyyren who features in a few of the screenshots, edited the economy meme, and is my current gaia buddy who encouraged me to make this post lmao

I found out more about the Ao3 bookmark search - the best way to find fic recs, fanfics on other less searchable sites, and to organize your own bookmarks!
My initial post explaining what this is can be found here, now here's what else I learned:
While in the normal work search, selecting 'complete works only' is part of the normal, clickable filtering system, that part is missing in the bookmark search, and seeing just lots of incomplete works as many people bookmark wips to get update emails frustrated me for ages - now I found a workaround!
In the filter section (see first post), below the include and exclude stuff in the 'More' section, you can find the field "search within results"
Tumblr media
Typing "complete: true" here will show you only completed works! The opposite would be "complete: false" for WIPs only.
The same also works for a bunch of different stuff:
if you're looking at your own bookmarks page, "private: true" shows you only the bookmarks hidden from the public
"restricted: true" is for works only visible for archive users, "restricted: false" of course the opposite (useful for example if you want to send someone who doesn't have an Ao3 account some fic recs)
"bookmarkable_type: Series" to not get bookmarks of individual works but only of series
You have to be exact in the spelling here, even making sure the empty space is there and the capital letters are correct, otherwise it will error and show 0 works!
You can combine several of them with an empty space - no comma! - for example to get only finished series under "bookmarkable_type: Series complete: true"
And then, this one is particularly genius to get new fic recs of stories you wouldn't otherwise find on Ao3 at all: "bookmarkable_type: ExternalWork" is for bookmarks of stories not posted to the archive but for example ff.net or livejournal!
Yes, there are bookmarks like that on there, and you can add your own bookmarks of non-ao3 fics on your bookmarks page - "bookmark external work", you then just have to add the url and copy the summary etc!
Tumblr media
If the fic doesn't have a proper summary, feel free to add your own summary in the 'notes' section so people have an idea what it is about, just leave the actual summary the way the author put it on the site they posted it to.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The more info and especially tags you add, the easier it is for people to find the fic rec later! As you can only add 'relationship' and 'character' tags for the actual bookmark, adding more things like the tropes of the fic etc to the 'your tags' section helps here. This means that when you are searching through 'bookmarkable_type: ExternalWork', to filter the results further you need to add tags in the 'bookmarkers tags' field (see top of first screenshot, marked green), not to the work tags sections.
I found most of this info and more here on Ao3!
Because tumblr mobile is a menace and will only let you copy by paragraph, I put the exact searches separately below the readmore so you can easily copy-paste and don't have to worry about typos!
complete: true
complete: false
restricted: true
restricted: false
bookmarkable_type: ExternalWork
bookmarkable_type: Series
private: true
private: false
bookmarkable_type: Series complete: true

♤ RP Rules ♤
▪︎ Status: Open
Disclaimer: Minors DNI. This blog is 18+ and run by a person above the age of 18. For your safety and mine, do not engage.
I am not comfortable with public RP in posts. If you want to roleplay, let's please keep it in DMs here on tumblr or my discord if you want that. Just message me and we can work something out.
Fandoms:
▪︎ Marvel (MCU, including Loki and Moon Knight)
▪︎ SCP Foundation
▪︎ Supernatural (up to and including at least season 5)
▪︎ Good Omens
▪︎ Night at the Museum
Any other fandoms I'm more than willing to discuss. Just name them!
Limits: I don't have a whole lot, but for very heavy/dark topics I need to be comfortable and/or know my RP partner on an OOC level. I absolutely reserve the rights to stop at any time I feel uncomfortable, and that goes for them too.
I don't do non-con. Ever. Some violence is fine as it's part of some of the fandoms I'm in, but excessive gore or torture scenes has to be talked about extensively beforehand.
I personally only play OCs because I don't have the confidence to play any canon characters myself. While I'm mostly looking for OC/canon RP, bringing in your own OCs is perfectly fine too! I don't mind writing multiple characters, however.
▪︎ Feel free to talk to me outside of the RPs, too! I love getting to know the people behind their muses and what they get up to! <3
▪︎My timezone is CET/CEST but I can discuss a workaround. Just expect my replies to be slower if the timezones are too drastically different as I might be asleep.
DNI if you are a: Proshipper, terf, racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, etc. Minors DNI, just to make sure it’s hammered in there.
To let me know you've read and understood these rules (there is a reason I wrote them up in the first place), add the names of my muse's siblings at the end of your message.
Current Muse: Nadine Amari
(TW for implications of some extremely dark topics including non-con, pedophilia, violence and death. None of this will ever happen IC, but are still very important parts of this muse's backstory and who she becomes as a person.)
Link to backstory here!

hiiii sorry if this is Super weird !!! but i know some people look at their past writing n cringe a little yet also still love it a little but (n this goes out to anyone tht wants 2 answer too!) have u ever cringed at like. recent writing? bc i cannot 4 the life of me look at smth i wrote even seven months ago bc im just so embarrased..... do u or anyone else have advice on how u could overcome smth like this? i know cringe is dead be free n live ur life !!! but sometimes i cannot. help but just. Explode
Not weird at all! Though I'm not great with the advice personally, (clear and concise answers? Idk her), maybe someone else can help a little more as I have lots of lovely brilliant people following me!
But I definitely have cringed at some of my recent writing. I'm always going to cringe at some of my writing and be like what was I thinking, I can't write, while other times I'll be like, wow I actually can write. It's forever in flux. Sometimes, that's just how it is because even in the smallest intervals of time, you're constantly growing as a writer, learning new things every minute, every second, and with every new thing taken in, every new experience or reading or etc. under your belt, you see further into how the gears of writing turn, and occasionally that means you start to perceive more flaws in your own writing, whether real or imagined, because you're looking for them now, you're looking at the embroidery from behind with all the loose strings and stitches, you're looking at the clocktower from between the gears on the inside, watching them shudder and jolt a little unnaturally when most other people just see the face.
For recent writing, it's an especially tough beast because unlike writing from the further past, you're not far enough removed yet, so you still can't really look at it objectively, you're still stuck inside the clocktower, unable to see the view as an outside observer. So, maybe everything is going to look a little wonky regardless of whether it really is or not, and there's not much to do but keep learning and improving from it in the meanwhile, step back for a second, give it time and space, and be kind and patient with yourself as you take a walk around back to the front of the tower and see whether you can still see the gears and everything from there.
My analogies tend to get out of hand and may not be the most solid or helpful, so I'll drop that... but you feel me? Maybe you will still be cringing at it later, but that means you've come further as a writer and can pinpoint how to fix it/improve it or use the experience and observations for your new work, honing in on what exactly about it is making you cringe, maybe it's something with an easy workaround, or maybe with fresh eyes, you'll see it's not as bad as you thought and there's some good in there after all, maybe a mix of both.
Usually, it really is a matter of time. When I posted my first ao3 fanfic last year, I couldn't bear to look at it again, the thought of it made me sick. I had reread it multiple times at various stages to the point where I was just like if it's bad, it's bad, it's out there and there's nothing I can do now, and the thought of it haunted me, like people are gonna think the style is weird, it's ooc, it's this, it's that, etc., aah, but I reread it finally again last week and... it was fine. It was totally... fine. Meanwhile, another story I had been working on, I came back to it after a while and realized the dialogue was stilted and the prose repetitive, so I had to rework it, but that's fine too, no shame in that. It takes a while to find what works.
Anyway, I'm starting to ramble and repeat myself, and my keyboard keys are all sticking because I spilt milk on it the other day, rip, so yeah! That's all I can tell you personally, but if anyone wants to jump on and add something else, feel free! And I wish you all the luck in your writing quest! Take care.

Iframe w3schools

#Iframe w3schools update#
#Iframe w3schools code#
The easiest way to start is using the p5.js editor, you can open the web. If you're more of the copy-and-paste type, or just want an in-page preview of what you'll be getting, here it is. This page walks you through setting up a p5.js project and making your first sketch. You can grab a copy of the file to use and tweak as fits you best. If you want to use my reset styles, then feel free! It's all explicitly in the public domain (I have to formally say that or else people ask me about licensing). In other words, this is a starting point, not a self-contained black box of no-touchiness. Fill in your preferred colors for the page, links, and so on. It should be tweaked, edited, extended, and otherwise tuned to match your specific reset baseline. CSS gives you the power to dress your iframe up a bit.
#Iframe w3schools code#
longdesc: Was used to specify URL containing a long description of an iframe. While I am a strong supporter of using the HTML strict doctype and writing validating, standard-compliant code iframes will not validate, which leaves us with two options: Either suck up the iframe-related validation errors or switch to HTML transitional doctype for the pages with iframes. src: Specifies the URL of a document to display in an iframe. I don't particularly recommend that you just use this in its unaltered state in your own projects. Places a set of security and usability restrictions on the iframe. There isn't any default color or background set for the body element, for example. The reset styles given here are intentionally very generic.
The different attributes of tag are: Attribute.
But this tag has been deprecated in the new version of HTML, i.e., HTML 5.
Reset styles quite often appear in CSS frameworks, and the original "meyerweb reset" found its way into Blueprint, among others. To use an iframe as the target frame for a link, the specified target attribute of the link should refer to the name attribute of the iframe. The tag is a container tag of HTML is implemented for creating scrollable text or images within a web page from either left to right or vice versa, or top to bottom or vice versa.
The general reasoning behind this was discussed in a May 2007 post, if you're interested. With that in mind i changed gatsby-node.The goal of a reset stylesheet is to reduce browser inconsistencies in things like default line heights, margins and font sizes of headings, and so on. Went through the issue and pieh's comment offered a workaround and a explanation on what is happening. src: URL: Used to to define the web address of the inline. width: Pixels: Used to specify the width of embedded frame (default width is 300 px). frameborder: 1 or 0: Used to specify whether an iframe should have a border or not.
Like every other tag, the
tag also has a few attributes associated with it.
The web browser can display another document within the current page, including the scrollbars and borders.
#Iframe w3schools update#
You need to update X-Frame-Options on the website that you are trying to embed to allow your Power Apps Portal (if you have control over that website).
The
tag defines a rectangular area within the current document or web page. Most probably web site that you try to embed as an iframe doesn't allow to be embedded.
name: text: Used to provide a name to the iframe. The iframe in HTML stands for Inline Frame. Did a little search and it seems your issue is related to Properly serve HTML files in the static directory #13072. Used to specify the height of the iframe (default height 150 px). Loading of iframes can be prevented by installing a browser add-on, for example, NoScript from Firefox. It seems that on build you can see the actual html without any issues. Tried gatsby build & gatsby serve and i opened up on one window and and i can now see the content as you can see below:.Issued gatsby develop and opened up and i'm presented with the folllowing, also on the right side i tried to access the page directly and as you can see by the image the issue persists:.Import React from "react" export default ( ) => ( this is content for the page )

Out of curiosity, I’ve noticed you don’t touch on tri, any particular reason? I know a lot of fans myself included don’t care for it but I don’t wanna assume that’s the case
I had a feeling I was going to get this question eventually, and I tussled with myself for quite a while on whether I should answer it publicly or privately, since this is a blog I’d like to mostly dedicate to appreciating the nuances and themes within Adventure and 02 and how carefully they handled all of the topics within, and I’d like to hold back on negativity for the most part (just because I talk about there being a meaningful reason behind most creative decisions in Adventure and 02 doesn’t mean I necessarily like all of them, I just don’t feel like this is the place to be adding those kinds of personal sentiments, because this is meant to be an analysis blog, not a review blog). That said, my meta has been getting a lot of traction lately (thank you so much! I really appreciate it!) and I do feel like this question must have crossed people’s minds at some point since it is a bit of an elephant in the room, so I think people have the right to know the answer.
To those of you reading this who are fans of tri., I sincerely apologize, since some less than kind things are going to be in this answer (although I do hope that maybe the tag would have successfully caught in some blacklists for those trying to avoid this kind of negativity).
The short version of the answer is that “I couldn’t get it to work, and I don’t have the energy to do it.” The long version of the answer is that I did actually try to analyze and pick apart tri. in detail a year ago, but unlike with Adventure and 02, where looking at it deeply and trying to extract details out of it revealed that a lot of it did make sense or at least have a reason behind it, looking at tri. with this level of depth made it fall apart even more. The contradictions and things that don’t make sense aren’t just one or two things you could safely ignore like with, say, Armor Evolution to the Unknown or Tag Tamers or Hurricane Touchdown, but practically permeate the entire text of it (and this is especially the case when you bring 02 into play, but even if you were to isolate Adventure into a vacuum, there are too many things that still don’t make sense), and it’s on every level as well; not just plot and worldbuilding, but also meaningful theme.
In the end, I don’t think this is just something that can be chalked up to mere happenstance, and I think the core of the problem is something that can be accurately summarized in the story of the two tri. scriptwriters who were fans of the original series, but kept getting their scripts rejected because it wasn’t “mature” enough. It’s not limited to just this incident, and it permeates a lot of the sentiments behind what you hear in tri. staff testimony -- a constant sentiment that the original series was a “kids’ show” that didn’t go into any kind of meaningful depth, and that the new series was meant to be “mature” in comparison. This is very, very painful for me to read, as someone who adores the original series because it had a significant level of depth and nuance that so many kids’ shows at the time wouldn’t even dare (and sometimes even to its detriment, since I’ve often complained how the series was too subtle for its own good, or kept going into things that would go over its target audience’s heads) -- contrast the statement about 02 that they wanted it to be a lighter series at first, but felt that it would be wrong to shy away from important things they wanted to say.
The entire premise of the series doesn’t work if you take even a single Adventure episode into account (45, which singlehandedly dismantles most of how tri. is even supposed to work), and there’s this thread of acting like the morality of killing/the morality of friendly fire was somehow new to this series when it comprised a whole quarter of Adventure and nearly the entirety of 02, and with so many other sentiments like this, the only conclusion I can reach is that they cared so much about that “maturity” that actually paying any mind to the series it was meant to be a sequel to was that low on the priority list. For me, who's mainly here to pay respect to the level of detail and thought and depth that the original Adventure and 02 staff put into their series, it just feels unfair to expect me to bend over backwards and compromise the integrity of the analysis just to make it “comply” with a series that never intended to be consistent or make sense in the first place.
Even if you do selectively include tri. elements, the more you try to involve, the more all of the contradictory facts and themes between Adventure/02 and tri. come into conflict like two magnets with the wrong sides facing each other, and you are repeatedly going to come into crossroads where you will have to commit to one over the other. At that point, the sheer level of speculation and workarounds to make it happen, and the things you'd have to toss out or modify from what was originally meant to be a comprehensive analysis, make it into less of an analysis and more headcanon and fanfiction. Which is perfectly fine if you want to go that route, I mean -- it's just that this isn't what this blog is for, because I'm trying to analyze and inspect what (the very uniformly consistent) Adventure and 02 were trying to say before another series (one that clearly had zero fundamental interest in maintaining any of that) came around fifteen years later. I include Kizuna mainly because it is incredibly easy to fit in comparison, given that it not only had original staff, but also is clearly made with just as much attention to detail and focus on meaningful theme as the original series was, and so it’s fairly easy to integrate it into an Adventure/02 analysis without much trouble -- in fact, Kizuna additions conversely often enhance and further elaborate on things that were already in the original series, so the helpful additions it adds far outweigh the work it takes to include it -- but that’s not the case for tri. at all.
Nevertheless, as I said, this is not a blog meant to focus on negativity. There are people who found something in tri. that spoke to them, or don’t really put so much weight into what the staff said or thought, and would like to see it in a way that works for them. I personally encourage this sentiment; just because I happen to be someone who treasures Adventure and 02′s integrity so much that I refuse to compromise does not mean I should inflict these feelings on others who don’t see it the same way. Because of that, I personally felt it was better to simply not cover it, rather than derailing every single analysis to make an aside about everything about tri. that doesn’t make sense, because that’s also going to be hurtful to anyone who does like one or more of the series and wants to make it work. But, after all, this blog is my personal analysis and way of seeing the series, and I cannot see it in a way that makes it work (and especially don’t have the energy to make an attempt for something I do in my free time), and so I would rather just pass the baton to those who feel more up to it instead; in other words, I’m not trying to invalidate tri.’s existence for those who want to make it work, and rather my stance is “I can’t figure out a way to make it work myself, so I will leave the reasoning to you.” Moreover, I’ve implied this a few times, but a lot of the ideas on this blog or in any of my analyses are not things I came up with on my own, but from sharing ideas and having discussions with friends in my private time, and I feel like I would be doing them a disservice by weaponizing all of the insightful things they’ve given me to dunk on something else. I love 02 a lot, and one of its major themes was trying to make the most positively productive thing you can out of what you have, and advocating for people to maybe appreciate something they may not have thought about before feels like a better use of my time.
If you are interested in my analysis of tri. from last year, I still keep it on hand mainly because -- well, to be frank about it, nearly every tri. diehard fan I’ve had a personal encounter with has said some very nasty things to me about how I’m not “smart” enough to appreciate the series, or how I’m being “unfair” about it, or how I’m not a “real fan” for not singing its praises, and so I mainly put this together as a collected document and proof of how I (and the few others who helped me put it together) did actually make due diligence and put proper scrutiny into trying to make it work (and couldn’t). (If you happen to identify as a tri. diehard fan and have not said this kind of thing to people, I sincerely apologize and want to make clear that I don’t want to pin the entire tri. fanbase as this kind of person; this was just my personal experience.) I wrote it mainly as catharsis and for the sake of other people who were interested in a detailed analysis, and also for the sake of other people who might have gotten these kinds of dismissive insults and wanted confirmation that their feelings weren’t baseless, or for bridging the gap between people who did like the series but want to understand why there are people who don’t (this apparently was a testimony from a few people who read it). That’s also why I’m linking it right now, since I imagine that there might be people curious about said aforementioned analysis after I’d just brought it up. However, I do warn that there is a lot of frustrated negativity, and that there is a sense of bias in that I wrote this “going in with doubt” instead of the more positive attitude I have with Adventure or 02 in that I assume there was a good reason for everything, and, frankly, if you like tri., I don’t actually suggest reading it or bringing that kind of negativity about something you like into your view. I also ask that people understand that the linked document is where I dumped all of my feelings cathartically and I do not enjoy dwelling on it further, nor bringing up this document when it doesn’t feel necessary, so I apologize, and I hope the stance I just expressed won’t taint anyone’s opinion of me too much...^^

Staged's Anna Lundberg and Georgia Tennant: 'Scenes with all four of us usually involved alcohol'
Not many primetime TV hits are filmed by the show’s stars inside their own homes. However, 2020 wasn’t your average year. During the pandemic, productions were shut down and workarounds had to be found – otherwise the terrestrial schedules would have begun to look worryingly empty. Staged was the surprise comedy hit of the summer.
This playfully meta short-form sitcom, airing in snack-sized 15-minute episodes, found A-list actors Michael Sheen and David Tennant playing an exaggerated version of themselves, bickering and bantering as they tried to perfect a performance of Luigi Pirandello’s Six Characters in Search of an Author over Zoom.
Having bonded while co-starring in Good Omens, Amazon’s TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s novel, Sheen, 51, and Tennant, 49, became best buddies in real life. In Staged, though, they’re comedically reframed as frenemies – warm, matey and collaborative, but with a cut-throat competitiveness lurking just below the surface. As they grew ever more hirsute and slobbish in lockdown, their virtual relationship became increasingly fraught.
It was soapily addictive and hilariously thespy, while giving a voyeuristic glimpse of their interior decor and domestic lives – with all the action viewed through their webcams.
Yet it was the supporting cast who lifted Staged to greatness,Their director Simon Evans, forced to dance around the pair’s fragile egos and piggy-in-the-middle of their feuds. Steely producer Jo, played by Nina Sosanya, forever breaking off from calls to bellow at her poor, put-upon PA. And especially the leading men’s long-suffering partners, both actors in real life, Georgia Tennant and Anna Lundberg.
Georgia Tennant comes from showbiz stock, as the child of Peter Davison and Sandra Dickinson. At 36 she is an experienced actor and producer, who made her TV debut in Peak Practice aged 15. She met David on Doctor Who 2008, when she played the Timelord’s cloned daughter Jenny. Meanwhile, the Swedish Lundberg, 26, is at the start of her career. She left drama school in New York two years ago and Staged is her first big on-screen role.
Married for nine years, the Tennants have five children and live in west London. The Lundberg-Sheens have been together two years, have a baby daughter, Lyra, and live outside Port Talbot in south Wales. On screen and in real life, the women have become firm friends and frequent scene-stealers.
Staged proved so successful that it’s now back for a second series. We set up a video call with Tennant and Lundberg to discuss lockdown life, wine consumption, home schooling (those two may be related) and the blurry line between fact and fiction…
Was doing Staged a big decision, because it’s so personal and set in your homes? Georgia Tennant: We’d always been a very private couple. Staged was everything we’d never normally say yes to. Suddenly, our entire house is on TV and so is a version of the relationship we’d always kept private. But that’s the way to do it, I guess. Go to the other extreme. Just rip off the Band-Aid.
Anna Lundberg: Michael decided pretty quickly that we weren’t going to move around the house at all. All you see is the fireplace in our kitchen.
GT: We have five children, so it was just about which room was available.
AL: But it’s not the real us. It’s not a documentary.
GT: Although some people think it is.
Which fictional parts of the show do people mistake for reality? GT: People think I’m really a novelist because “Georgia” writes a novel in Staged. They’ve asked where they can buy my book. I should probably just write one now because I’ve done the marketing already.
AL: People worry about our elderly neighbour, who gets hospitalised in the show. She doesn’t actually exist in real life but people have approached Michael in Tesco’s, asking if she’s OK.
Michael and David squabble about who’s billed first in Staged. Does that reflect real life? AL: With Good Omens, Michael’s name was first for the US market and David’s was first for the British market. So those scenes riffed on that.
Should we call you Georgia and Anna, or Anna and Georgia? GT: Either. We’re super-laidback about these things.
AL: Unlike certain people.
How well did you know each other before Staged? GT: We barely knew each other. We’ve now forged a friendship by working on the show together.
AL: We’d met once, for about 20 minutes. We were both pregnant at the time – we had babies a month apart – so that was pretty much all we talked about.
Did you tidy up before filming? AL: We just had to keep one corner relatively tidy.
GT: I’m quite a tidy person, but I didn’t want to be one of those annoying Instagram people with perfect lives. So strangely, I had to add a bit of mess… dot a few toys around in the background. I didn’t want to be one of those insufferable people – even though, inherently, I am one of those people.
Was there much photobombing by children or pets? AL: In the first series, Lyra was still at an age where we could put her in a baby bouncer. Now that’s not working at all. She’s just everywhere. Me and Michael don’t have many scenes together in series two, because one of us is usually Lyra-wrangling.
GT: Our children aren’t remotely interested. They’re so unimpressed by us. There’s one scene where Doris, our five-year-old, comes in to fetch her iPad. She doesn’t even bother to glance at what we’re doing.
How was lockdown for you both? AL: I feel bad saying it, but it was actually good for us. We were lucky enough to be in a big house with a garden. For the first time since we met, we were in one place. We could just focus on Lyra . To see her grow over six months was incredible. She helped us keep a steady routine, too.
GT: Ours was similar. We never spend huge chunks of time together, so it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. At least until David’s career goes to shit and he’s just sat at home. The flipside was the bleakness. Being in London, there were harrowing days when everything was silent but you’d just hear sirens going past, as a reminder that something awful was going on. So I veered between “This is wonderful” and “This is the worst thing that ever happened.”
And then there was home schooling… GT: Which was genuinely the worst thing that ever happened.
You’ve spent a lot of time on video calls, clearly. What are your top Zooming tips? GT: Raise your camera to eye level by balancing your laptop on a stack of books. And invest in a ring light.
AL: That’s why you look so much better. We just have our sad kitchen light overhead, which makes us look like one massive shiny forehead.
GT: Also, always have a good mug on the go [raises her cuppa to the camera and it’s a Michael Sheen mug]. Someone pranked David on the job he’s shooting at the moment by putting a Michael Sheen mug in his trailer. He brought it home and now I use it every morning. I’m magically drawn to drinking out of Michael.
There’s a running gag in series one about the copious empties in Michael’s recycling. Did you lean into lockdown boozing in real life? AL: Not really. We eased off when I was pregnant and after Lyra was born. We’d just have a glass of wine with dinner.
GT: Yes, definitely. I often reach for a glass of red in the show, which was basically just an excuse to continue drinking while we were filming: “I think my character would have wine and cake in this scene.” The time we started drinking would creep slightly earlier. “We’ve finished home schooling, it’s only 4pm, but hey…” We’ve scaled it back to just weekends now.
How did you go about creating your characters with the writer Simon Evans? AL: He based the dynamic between David and Michael on a podcast they did together. Our characters evolved as we went along.
GT: I was really kind and understanding in the first draft. I was like “I don’t want to play this, it’s no fun.” From the first few tweaks I made, Simon caught onto the vibe, took that and ran with it.
Did you struggle to keep a straight face at times? AL: Yes, especially the scenes with all four of us, when David and Michael start improvising.
GT: I was just drunk, so I have no recollection.
AL: Scenes with all four of us were normally filmed in the evening, because that’s when we could be child-free. Usually there was alcohol involved, which is a lot more fun.
GT: There’s a long scene in series two where we’re having a drink. During each take, we had to finish the glass. By the end, we were all properly gone. I was rewatching it yesterday and I was so pissed.
What else can you tell us about series two? GT: Everyone’s in limbo. Just as we think things are getting back to normal, we have to take three steps back again. Everyone’s dealing with that differently, shall we say.
AL: In series one, we were all in the same situation. By series two, we’re at different stages and in different emotional places.
GT: Hollywood comes calling, but things are never as simple as they seem.
There were some surprise big-name cameos in series one, with Samuel L Jackson and Dame Judi Dench suddenly Zooming in. Who can we expect this time around? AL: We can’t name names, but they’re very exciting.
GT: Because series one did so well, and there’s such goodwill towards the show, we’ve managed to get some extraordinary people involved. This show came from playing around just to pass the time in lockdown. It felt like a GCSE end-of-term project. So suddenly, when someone says: “Samuel L Jackson’s in”, it’s like: “What the fuck’s just happened?”
AL: It took things to the next level, which was a bit scary.
GT: It suddenly felt like: “Some people might actually watch this.”
How are David and Michael’s hair and beard situations this time? AL: We were in a toyshop the other day and Lyra walked up to these Harry Potter figurines, pointed at Hagrid and said: “Daddy!” So that explains where we’re at. After eight months of lockdown, it was quite full-on.
GT: David had a bob at one point. Turns out he’s got annoyingly excellent hair. Quite jealous. He’s also grown a slightly unpleasant moustache.
Is David still wearing his stinky hoodie? GT: I bought him that as a gift. It’s actually Paul Smith loungewear. In lockdown, he was living in it. It’s pretty classy, but he does manage to make it look quite shit.

ADHD Tips!
I have amassed these over the past few years through both personal experience and from others online. If you don't have ADHD, still feel free to share and use these if you need! Many of the issues we struggle with are experienced by people without ADHD, and ADHD is often comorbid with many mental illnesses. Feel free to add on to this post or take and share these wherever you like.
Catagories are: General, Meds, Teeth, Laundry, Shower/Getting Dressed, Food, Water, Sleep, and Homework
General Tips:
Use alarms for everything you struggle with doing on time. Everything.
Most things with ADHD wre much easier to find a workaround for than to force yourself into doing.
If you have trouble with procrastinating, there is usually something specific stopping you. If you can't figure it out or can't stop it, just do your best to procrastinate by doing other things you need to do.
If you're able to, find other people to rely on to either help you or just be there for you.
Meds:
Use a pill organizer, even if you only take one pill. Being able to look at today's day and see if you've taken it is much easier if they're split into days.
If you have a hard time remembering to take them set yourself an alarm for every single day and keep your meds where you are most likely to take them.
If your meds taste bad, give yourself a treat after like some juice or a candy. If you can't eat after them then drink a good amount of water.
If you have a hard time taking meds at a certain time of day, ask your doctor if it would be alright if they were taken at another time. Some of my meds are normally instructed to be taken in the morning as they often cause sleeplessness, but I take them at night because I know for certain I can take them every day at night. Some meds really need to be taken at a specific time of day and if you take one like that, try to incorporate taking it into some sort of routine.
Teeth:
If you have a hard time brushing your teeth daily try to figure out why. If it's the toothpaste, buy a different toothpaste (kid's ones will taste more fun). If it's the toothbrush buy one with softer or firmer bristles. Kid's toothpastes will often lack the fluoride that helps protect your teeth, so be wary of that.
If you take meds, keep a toothbrush near them to try to associate brushing them after or before taking the meds. Dry brushing them is always better than not brushing them at all. Some people find that brushing their teeth in the shower works best. If you have several toothbrushes around the house and just brush your teeth when you see one, it will be much better for your teeth than brushing them with toothpaste only sometimes.
If you can't floss with normal floss, there are floss holders that work pretty well, or even water flossers. It's best to do it daily but I guarantee that flossing every so often is much better than not at all. If your gums bleed, be more gentle and do your best to be more regular so they bleed less. If they still bleed with regular gentle flossing be sure to talk to your dentist to try to figure out what's wrong.
Mouthwash is a good addition to your routine. Find one that you can tolerate. It's recommended and best to use it after brushing and not to dilute it, but if you can only use it by deluting it, something is still better than nothing.
Laundry:
I use pillow cases for my dirty laundry. For me it's the exact size of one load of laundry, and having several smaller bags if dirty laundry means that you can keep them in several places instead of just one designated basket. If there is one in reach wherever you remove your clothes you are more likely to put it in the dirty laundry than leave it out.
If you're the one buying the laundry soap and doing your own laundry, be sure to pick one that you like the smell of. I personally buy scentless laundry soap because the strong smells hurt my head.
Using a bag or basket that is the size of your washer and dryer means there is less commitment than hauling several loads of laundry.
If the worst part of doing laundry is folding clothes, don't fold them the way you're used to. Turn it into a game or hang them or stack them all up and fit them in your drawers that way. If you're home most of the time or wrinkles just don't matter to you, leave them in the bag or just shove them in your drawers. It takes up more space than doing it neatly and putting them away but sometimes it's just not worth it.
Shower/Getting Dressed:
If you have trouble picking clothes in the morning, do that at night. You can change your mind in the morning if you really want.
If you have trouble getting up and getting dressed, just put your clothes on the night before. If you sweat a lot in your sleep this might not be the best plan.
If you have a hard time showering regularly, try to figure out why. If it's the smells, find unscented or better smelling soaps. If it's what you use to wash your skin with, use a different thing or just use your hands. If it's the getting dry part, use one towel and switch it out to a new one when it gets damp.
Turn on the fan if it gets too hot or stuffy, or even crack the door when you're done showering so it cools down even quicker.
If you have a hard time showering because you don't do well with seeing your body, shower in the dark. There are night lights that plug directly into outlets that can provide some light without making it bright, or you can use candles.
If you have a hard time with standing that long, invest in a shower chair or try to find one at a thrift store.
Food:
Snacks are fantastic to keep in your room if you can. If you have any sort of pest problem or have pets, keep them in a sealed container. Juice boxes and pouches are also fantastic to be able to grab while you're In The Zone without having to think about it.
It's good to keep easy foods on hand for when you're just exhuasted or can't think of what to make. In our pantry, I have ravioli, oatmeal, microwave rice sides, stovetop rice sides, ramen (some made on the stove and some cup ramen), cereal, canned chili and soup, canned tuna, mac and cheese, instant potatoes and pasta with bottled sauce. In the freezer, the foods we always have are pizza, pizza rolls, fries, broccoli, waffles, sliced strawberries, and burritos. Be sure to pick foods you like and can make in a pinch.
Eggs are quick and easy, and you can even crack one in a mug and add salt and pepper, mix it and microwave it for a very fast snack. Potatoes and rice are filling and take more time but are a great base to other foods like eggs or sauce or cheese. Both can be made in the microwave if you don't have an oven or stove, it's too hot to use them, or you're worried about burning yourself. Make sure to wash the potato skin well if you're keeping it on.
You don't need to stick to the normal breakfast foods for breakfast, lunch foods for lunch, and dinner foods for dinner. If you love breakfast foods, make those for dinner. If you hate breakfast foods, make dinner foods for breakfast.
Try to incorporate fruits and veggies into your daily foods, but don't feel bad if you can't. There's no shame in not liking or being unable to eat some foods, just do your best to give your body the nutrients it needs. If your fresh fruits and veggies always go bad before you can use them, just buy frozen ones. Frozen fruits and veggies are usually frozen at peak ripeness and will last way longer than fresh. Some frozen veggies even come in microwavable bags for quick and easy cooking.
If you're stuck when making food, just eat the ingredients by themselves. This could be fruits, veggies, cheese, meats (unless it needs to be cooked first), and bread. I find that if I have a snack in the kitchen before making myself food, that's often enough to trick my brain into food mode and let's me make a meal.
When you're making yourself food, be sure to make leftovers! Don't make a huge amount unless you're willing to eat it for most meals so it doesn't go bad, but making just double or triple the food and storing it in the fridge is a very easy way to make less work for future you with only slightly more work for current you.
If you have trouble actually remembering to eat, set alarms or reminders for yourself, or even see if a friend can remind you to eat whenever they're eating. If there are meds you need to take with food, keep them near food so you remember to eat with them. If you feed a pet, eat before or after feeding them.
If you live with someone else, see if making food for more than just yourself makes it easier. If I need food and ask my partner if they also want food, it's always easier for me to make food when they also are hungry and need food.
Water:
Use several water bottles so you don't have to keep getting up to refill them. If it helps, you can have a morning water bottle, an afternoon water bottle, and an evening water bottle and try to have the water gone by the time you go to switch to the next one.
If you struggle to drink enough because you don't like water, try tea or adding fruit to your water or another water flavoring. Liquids that aren't water do also contain water! Soda will often make you thirstier, so try to make sure you're drinking things that aren't just that though.
Sleep:
Ignore what neurotypicals will tell you about sleep. They will tell you to only use your bed for sleep, but if you go to bed sooner if you read or scroll on your phone in bed than if you do it out of bed, do it in bed. Many sleep hygiene tips are the opposite of what is best for those of us with ADHD.
If you can't sleep with silence, try listening to music or a podcast as background noise. If you have a hard time sleeping in bed, move your blankets and pillow to the floor or a comfy chair. When I lived alone I would vary between sleeping on the bed and the couch.
If you wake up hungry in the middle of the night, eat closer to when you sleep. Common sleep advice is to not eat before sleeping but it's what works best for me. Alternatively, keep snacks by the bed. If you're worried about needing to brush your teeth after, keep a toothbrush by the snacks.
Melatonin and other sleep aides are often at least slightly helpful for people, and if you take them make sure you're following the instructions for how to make them most effective.
If you have trouble keeping a bed time, use alarms.
If all else fails, and you're able to, find a job or school that you can work around your sleep schedule. When I was able to work, I worked a swing shift job and got up at noon.
Homework:
I have not been in school in two years so these are from memory or what I've picked up from others since
Make a space to do homework that is free from distractions that will distract you fully. Use the background noise that helps you work best. The key to distraction and ADHD is learning what distractions are helpful and what distractions will get you off track. Neurotypicals will tell you that your space needs to be quiet and bare of anything interesting. Ignore them. If you have a hyperfixation at the moment, it is vital that you do not let it anywhere near your homework space. It will win over your attention with no effort. Use headphones if you are working in a public space. If you do need silence, headphones with no music playing can help, or use a pair of earmuffs or earplugs.
Take breaks when you feel you need them. Your math will not get done if you are having a meltdown from stress. Time how long you've spent on homework and then spend a fifth of that time as a break if you have time. Alternatively work for a half hour and take a short five minute break, or spend an hour and take a ten minute break. If you have a hard time refocusing after a break, don't do anything interesting during the break but instead do some stretches, have a snack, and get more water.
Don't try to do homework hungry. Have a snack before starting if you need to, and be sure to have water readily available.
If you have a lot of homework or several different subjects, take 5-10 minutes at the begining to organize what you are going to do. If possible, work on the thing that has the soonest due date, the most important to your grade, or the subject you have the lowest grade in. If you have a lot, do your best to alternate hard material and quick easy material to give your brain a bit of a break. If it helps, don't be afraid to pause your hard stuff to work on easy stuff for a bit if you have time.
If you need help, try to find someone that will actually help you in the way you need. If that's not possible, there are often YouTube videos on the subject you need help in. If you choose to find a video, I have found that it is best to find one in incognito mode (or a designated school google account) so YouTube does not suggest you videos you are interested in. This also helps to keep your school stuff from your fun stuff.
Finishing something partway is often better than not turning it in at all. This is something that is even more true in the "real world" than they lead you to believe in school.

Lockdown Fluff getting to you? Five lovely diets to shed those not-so-loved kilos
Tumblr media
It’s been a great deal of time since the initial lockdown. A lot of things changed after the 2020 lockdown phase was over. But what remained constant was first, the Corona Virus and second, the extra fat we all accumulated because of the cooking and eating spree we had during the lockdown last year.
As we scroll through the Insta feeds all we see are people doing yoga, the Zumba and the Suryanamaskars at home, which does inspire us to do something. Sure. But that’s the ideal world!
In the real world, people get inspired alright but after spending just 30 precious minutes of their day in a downward dog position, they give up. But let’s not blame just the lockdown, we haaaaaate exercising. So, even while the gyms and parks opened up temporarily before the 2nd wave hit us, we still excused ourselves from exercising. Not that we scored even pre-lockdown – Busy schedules, unending projects, ever-scary deadline – there was nothing that encouraged us to keep that workout regimen going.
And whats worse? Those non-Insta-worthy photos and many many discarded selfies that picked a raw nerve within us - often making us feel miserable about our own lack of self-love. Well, let’s not beat ourselves up and let’s recollect that there exists an 80/20 rule – 80 per cent of the recipe to lose weight and look good is, Nutrition or Diet. So even while you skimp on that 20, let’s get you 80% up there at least.
But in this area, be warned crash diets are not the way to go. So if you’re looking for a 5-day-5-kg crash diet, stop reading right here.
Over the decades, we have seen and heard our friends follow so many of these diet fads:-
The dramatic reduction of the bread and pasta under the Atkins and Keto diets – low carb, high protein, high-powered diets that start the process of ketosis in your body.
Vegan and vegetarian diets that insist you only eat plant-based food – so no eggs, meat, dairy, seafood for you while on this regime.
The Paleo diet that takes you back to the stone ages eating foods only that can be hunted or gathered – so eat nothing that came in a tin/box/plastic bag/foil wrap.
Vegan diets prescribing to eat nothing but raw plants in their uncooked, natural forms.
The Whole 30 diet where you go through a 30-day detox by eating 3 “Clean” meals a day-  free of inflammatory foods like beverages, baked goods, junk stuff, legumes, dairy, sugar, sweeteners etc.
Since these were generic diet plans read off the internet, they worked for some while failed miserably for the others. One has to accept that every individual has unique body requirements, what may slim me down may not work for you at all, making you tired, hungry and discouraged by the process.
So rather than blindly following a diet, check out a convenient diet plan to suit your body type and your goal. Here are some of the trending ones this season you could check out and see what fits you best.
And oh, did you know that summer is the best season to lose weight?!!
 The Mediterranean Diet
Tumblr media
One of the most popular diets for many years, the Mediterranean diet comprises of the food eaten in the Mediterranean region including whole grains, fruits, vegetables, fish, olive oil and healthy fats. Red wine, eggs, and dairy products are included in a moderate amount, while red meat and saturated fats are consumed less. It has numerous health benefits like weight loss, reduced cholesterol, reduced risk of cancer and other chronic illnesses, and diabetes control. Fairly convenient to follow, it always remains one of the top trending diets of most years. Although a little bit of activity is warranted with it to take full benefit of the Mediterranean culture.
The DASH Diet
Tumblr media
Sounds like hype but it isn’t. DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension where the purpose is to control blood pressure through diet. So this is serious business. The diet includes whole grains, vegetables, fruits, lean fish and meat, low-fat dairy products, all of which are low in sodium. This diet not only reduces blood pressure but also helps reduce the risk of chronic illnesses, ensuring a healthy heart and promoting weight loss.
But be careful of going overboard, low sodium is not good for your general health either.
 The WW Freestyle
Tumblr media
Do not mistake this as a form of sport. WW Freestyle, among the most popular diets, is a program designed on a SmartPoints system. Here, each food and beverage item is assigned a point based on its nutritional value. The dieter’s current weight and goal decides the number of points that one can consume daily.
Formerly called Weight Watchers, this diet program has over 200 SmartPoint foods, starting with fruits and vegetables at 0 points. Online chats, workshops, weight check meetings and the support of weight management experts keep dieters motivated through this community approach program. Who knows maybe you could make some friends online who follow the same regime. Worth a try, huh?
The Flexitarian Diet
Tumblr media
The dietitian, Dawn Jackson Blatner introduced the word ‘Flexitarian’ in her 2009 book, "The Flexitarian Diet: The Mostly Vegetarian Way to Lose Weight, Be Healthier, Prevent Disease and Add Years to Your Life,".
As the name hints, ‘flexitarian’ is a combination of two words: flexible and vegetarian. In her book, the dietitian suggests ways of following a healthy vegetarian diet without sacrificing meat. The idea is to include fruits and vegetables, whole grains, dairy products and proteins like beans, eggs, etc. in your diet. A wholesome diet with low consumption of meat ensures weight loss and reduced risk of heart diseases, cancer and diabetes.
 The Intermittent Fasting
Tumblr media
Fasting is a tradition existing for centuries. But the intermittent fasting fad gained momentum just a years ago. In the simplest terms, intermittent fasting means assigning time slots for food consumption and fasting the rest of the hours of one’s day.
The most popular methods within this diet plan are the 16/8 method, the 5:2 method, and the Eat Stop Eat method.
In the 16/8 method, dieters only eat during an 8-hour time window (e.g. 12 noon - 8 pm) and do not eat anything outside that time window (e.g. from 8 pm till the next day at noon).
In the 5:2 method, dieters have a normal diet for five days of the week and restrict their food consumption for the remaining two days.
The Eat Stop Eat plan is similar to the 5:2 plan though more rigorous. In this plan, the dieters eat everything during the week except for one or two days of complete fasting. Research has proven weight loss, better metabolism and reduced diseases with intermittent fasting methods, making it one of the top favourites of weight-watchers for years now.
You should be able to follow any of the above diets provided when you know what your goal is. Sit down, chart your daily activity and decide on a realistic goal - weight loss, healthy lifestyle, better drive, higher energy, regular bowel movements could be one or many of your objectives.
Research what you can and cannot eat in each of these diet plans. Even if it’s difficult to gather ingredients to follow some of the diets to the absolute, be prepared to find alternatives and workarounds so that you don’t get demotivated once you have started out on a path.
A realistic and practical plan based on your requirements would help you follow a diet plan for a long time. Restrictive dieting will only lead to excessive binge eating when you are off the diet. Instead, make small gradual changes to your lifestyle, give up some habits on a consistent basis (reduce smoking, drinking more water, stopping caffeine consumption, walking while talking on long phone calls etc.) and adapt newer ones as you go and you are sure to see longer-term sustained health benefits,
‘Cos that’s all that we at Dais World care for – “The health and well-being of our readers.”
Eat well, be well, stay home, stay safe – wishing you great health!

Who is The Best VPN Provider?
When attempting to decide the best VPN for you, there are various key models you ought to look at.
It incidentally turns out to be the very standards that we search for when leading VPN surveys.
Some prominent things to look out for include:
Logging strategy
Are there any IP spills?
How quick is the VPN?
Does it permit torrenting?
Will it unblock Netflix?
What number of workers does it have?
What nations are those workers in?
What number of associations would you be able to have at one time?
Is there an off button?
Does the VPN parent organization fall under the ward of a reconnaissance collusion?
We've gathered the entirety of that data in an exceptional accounting page, which we've made accessible for survey.
Here is the connection to our testing accounting page.
VPN Frequently Asked Questions
What are the advantages of utilizing a VPN?
A VPN will shroud your IP address and encode your web traffic with the goal that your meeting remains totally mysterious.
In any case, how can it get that going?
In the first place, the VPN covers your IP address, which is the reason it's critical to ensure that the assistance you're utilizing doesn't release your DNS or IP address.
Seeming like you're elsewhere permits you to sidestep geo-hindered content or uncensor sites. It likewise helps columnists and security activists under tyrant systems get away from backfire, prison time, or more terrible.
VPN's make a safe passage around your whole web association (for the most part utilizing OpenVPN burrowing convention), ensuring your program, yet in addition your application movement, as well. Most VPNs utilize 256-bit AES encryption that makes it basically outlandish for your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to follow which sites you're visiting.
Be that as it may, it likewise implies your own information stays ensured.
Further perusing: What is a VPN? (Novice's Guide)
Is a VPN completely legitimate?
Indeed, VPN use is completely legitimate in 97% of nations around the world.
In any case, we reality checked 196 VPN country laws to affirm that a few nations control VPN use, while others boycott them by and large.
Just "Government Approved" VPNs should be utilized in:
China
Iran
Oman
Russia
Turkey
Joined Arab Emirates
Getting found utilizing one that is not supported could mean fines, prison time, or both.
Be careful when in these nations, however. Since you can practically expect to be that "administration endorsed" signifies they share a few (if not all) information with every administration when called upon.
Would you be able to utilize a VPN to stream or watch Netflix?
You can utilize VPNs to stream substance and watch Netflix, however not every one of them work with certain web-based features.
We found that generally 70% of the VPNs we tried can fly under Netflix's geo-hindering radar.
Those numbers are very acceptable, considering Netflix has forcefully followed VPN associations and intermediary workers over the most recent couple of years.
Their permitting limitations are feeling the squeeze, so they're busy and all things needed to forestall individuals in the U.K. from streaming U.S. substance (and the other way around).
Our tests uncovered both Surfshark and NordVPN work perfectly on numerous workers.
That implies they're proactively keeping away from identification from Netflix. Also, it implies you can rely on them working effectively later on, as well.
Other than Netflix, individuals additionally use VPNs to sidestep geo-limitations, watch sports channels, or much other real time features like HULU.
Further perusing: Best (Working) VPNs for Netflix (2021)
Are VPNs ok for torrenting?
Indeed, VPNs can keep your association protected and unknown when you're torrenting or utilizing P2P associations.
We've accumulated the best VPNs for torrenting and tracked down that most fall in one of four classifications:
Permit limitless, unlimited torrenting
Permit restricted torrenting just on explicit workers
Permit however don't energize and don't
Try not to permit
Torrenting associates you to distributed (P2P) record sharing to download gigantic documents at lightning speeds. Without a VPN, you leave yourself uncovered from the others on that equivalent association.
The issue is that torrenting is most notable for bypassing intellectual property laws to wrongfully download content.
Furthermore, numerous VPN organizations avoid the possible blowback from specialists.
Do VPN suppliers keep log documents?
VPN organizations ought not be keeping log documents, and every one of them guarantee that they don't. In any case, many actually do, which is the reason it's critical to do your exploration.
In the wake of going through 118 distinctive VPNs, we tracked down that 26 of them will gather at least three significant log documents that would handily uncover your own behavior.
They all say they "don't log." But a considerable lot of them do. Try to delve into their security approaches and terms of administration to perceive what, precisely, they're logging.
For instance, practically every one of them will follow total data transfer capacity use so they can screen their own worker execution.
That stuff is no issue.
It begins to get a little interesting when they track when you sign in or out of their administration. What's more, you'll need to run for the slopes when they track the individual sites you visit.
To exacerbate the situation, a ton of them use excessively confounded lawful ballyhoo to befuddle the issues.
They'll word it's anything but a way that makes it sound blameless. Where it doesn't seem like they'll follow the documents you download.
Further perusing: 15 free VPN administrations that can offer your information to outsiders
Would you be able to secure a switch, Smart TV, or game control center with a VPN?
You can totally utilize a VPN with your switch, Smart TV, and gaming console, as long as the VPN you're utilizing has support for those gadgets.
Fortunately, the vast majority of them do. In the event that they don't, they regularly have a workaround like a manual OpenVPN arrangement.
Preferably, go with a VPN that locally upholds the stage you have as a primary concern.
Suppose that is a switch. Setting up a VPN association at your Internet source implies you can secure your whole association. However, it additionally implies you can successfully add however many gadgets to a protected organization as you'd like, as well.
On the off chance that you do have to do somewhat more difficult work, click here to peruse our full aide on setting up a switch VPN.
Mutual benefit.
Moreover, setting it up on your Smart TV will help you all the more effectively stream geo-hindered content on Netflix, Hulu, and others.
You can change worker areas directly from the actual gadget and essentially cycle through the most ideal alternatives to at last access whatever content you want.
Will a VPN hinder web speed?
All VPNs will affect speed here and there. You can expect a 30% drop from even the best VPN frameworks on the planet.
Truly, everything reduces to what VPN you're utilizing. Some of them just lethargic you down a bit, while some totally gut your paces.
Why would that be?
Consider it along these lines:
Without a doubt, they're adding another layer of safety. In any case, that likewise implies they're adding more circles for your traffic to bounce through.
Those extra hindrances mean you can generally anticipate a log jam or something to that affect.
The key is to discover a VPN that doesn't totally wreck your traffic, all things considered.
We rehash a similar speed test for each VPN we survey.
In the first place, we get the benchmark perusing without a VPN so we can analyze.
Then, at that point, we associate with a couple of various workers to attempt to aggregate a fair-minded, joined rating.
All through this cycle, we've seen some that may just dock your association a couple of rate focuses. Odds are, you wouldn't see it.
In any case, we've likewise seen some terrible ones, as well.
A portion of the suppliers we've audited have eased back our association somewhere around more than 100%!
That would make streaming substance practically incomprehensible. In any event, noting messages would be a battle.
We've positioned each VPN from first to the last spot. So reference the positioning on each in case you're concerned.

Tumblr media
Ready to kick off the new school year? Here’s a step-by-step guide for students.
Be prepared for school with simple to-do lists
Before the school starts, preparing for the move from home to uni can be very daunting, particularly difficult if the uni is in another city or even country. To help yourself a little bit, writing everything down and getting reminded is what should come in the first place.
For example, creating a packing list by using the “Packing Template” in TickTick and then divide the lists into multiple “Sections”: clothing, stationeries, electronic gadgets, and etc. A reading list regarding one of your newly chosen courses can also pre-equip you with a general idea and get you ready for shifting to the study mood. Meanwhile, a social list for the events you’d like to attend in the welcoming week, and societies you’d like to join will prepare you for a new start of uni life. A document list for enrolment, or a sightseeing list to explore the new city where you’re going to stay, are also essential for your quick settling.
Tumblr media
Build a study-based workaround
Step 1: Creating different Lists for different courses you’re enrolled in.
Step 2: Creating different Tasks for components of the course within each list.
For example, in the list called Sociolinguistics, there could be three tasks: Task A: Lectures, Task B: Seminars, Task C: Workshops. Here, you can set the tasks as recurrent, for example, 10-12 am every Friday for Task A: Lectures.
Step 3: Adding Subtasks within the tasks. I suggest you create those subtasks according to the topic of each class.
For example, under Task A: Lectures, there could be many subtasks: Lecture 1: code-switching, Lecture 2: translanguaging, Lecture 3…
Subtasks can be further split if necessary. For example:  Lecture 1: code-switching can be divided into three new subtasks in the second level: Preview, In process, Revision.
Step 4:  Defining the context of your tasks/subtasks with Tags.
In the daily study life, it’s common to have different types of tasks, e.g. Reading, Discussing, Researching, or Writing. Therefore, you can actually add different tags to the tasks to make sure they are well sorted out, and then plan out accordingly based on their contexts.
Step 5: Prioritizing your tasks and identity what’s important.
I believe you may have heard about the Eisenhower Matrix before (sorting your tasks based on urgency and importance). Important and urgent, important but not urgent, urgent but not important, not important and not urgent. Based on this, TickTick offers 4 choices of Priority: High, Medium, Low Priority and No Priority, to help you decide what needs to be done first.
Step 6: Taking notes and connecting everything related to the course.
When taping into a task/subtask, you’ll find a wide blank area for task description. You can write down/upload more details here regarding your tasks, whether it’s reading resources, professors’ contacts, random ideas, or lecture notes from the class. Markdown (a way to quickly add formatting like headers, bold, bullet points, and so on to plain text) is supported here in the task description section, in order to help you take notes easily and beautifully on your digital devices.
Not a fan of digital writing? Not a problem. You can also add attachments in the description, to include any files you feel relevant to your tasks, like notes written on paper.
With these steps above, you’ll find all your course-related materials and tasks can be well organized and scheduled just in one place.
* Would also like to plan out social and daily life? Then creating multiple Folders to collect lists is what you need to do. Move all lists for study in one folder, and get another for social life. Easy, right? Or simply subscribe to other calendars, and all the events from there could be synced into TickTick.
Tumblr media
Beat procrastination with Time Blocking
When the courses begin, the struggle comes in the form of knowing exactly what to do but just can’t find enough motivation to actually do it. With so many tasks at the same time, like readings and group assignments, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. The 48-hour essay writing and one-night-oil exam reviewing are probably the most often heard stories in the uni.
How to be a master of time management and stop being the last-minute person, is perhaps the most important skill we should all learn in uni life. One of the solutions for this could be practicing Time Blocking with TickTick’s built-in Calendar.
Step 1: Customizing when week 1 starts at the Date & Time Settings in TickTick.
The first week you set can be the first week when your courses begin, and the following weeks will be able to show in sequence in your TickTick calendar.
Step 2: Arranging tasks in the calendar.
After going to the calendar, you’ll be able to see tasks you’ve created before, as long as they have a due date. For example, it will show the timetable of your classes, social events synced from your local calendar, or other tasks in daily life.
If you’d like to add, move and arrange new tasks, simply use the feature “Arranging Tasks”, where all your tasks are  displayed by Priority, Tags and Lists. Via drag n’ drop, anything can be put into time blocks in the calendar. What’s already in there can also be moved.
Learn more.
Tumblr media
Be more focused with Pomodoro Technique
With so many distractions around us, it’s even harder to stay focused than we thought. One of the main features designed to help you keep focused in TickTick is actually called Focus.
Within Focus, there's a Pomodoro Timer. Based on the Pomodoro Technique, it’s a pre-set timer normally combines a 25-minute work session with a 5-min break. This goes in cycles at least four times, and you’ll then get a longer beak (normally 15 minutes). You can always change the settings for these sessions.
So, to get Pomo started, you may first have to choose a task you’d like to focus on, and then a white noise as the background sound. Start working till the Pomo timer ends, and you can’t back out of the app, otherwise you would lose this Pomo. But if you’re an Android user, there is actually an allowlist in which you can add other apps. You’re then able to use other apps with your pomo timer keeping running in TickTick.
Find more about Focus.

Be active in group work with Kanban boards
Group assignments take a big part in uni life. What may become the hindrances sometimes are the responsibility division within the group, disconnection with others’ progress, or inefficiency  in group communications. Kanban in TickTick offers a solution.
First used by line-workers in Toyota’s factory, Kanban is a project management method to visualize your workflow. Group work can be displayed on different Kanban boards, so that you can clearly see what should be done by who, when it needs to be done and what’s the progress of others. Commenting on tasks on Kanban also makes it more efficient to communicate with other group members.
Go to TickTick and enter a list, you can then choose to switch it into the Kanban view. Here, you can place tasks onto different boards divided from person to person or phase to phase. Each task can be assigned to others, as long as you share the list with them. The progress of each member can also be easily marked to keep the whole team informed. Commenting on your own or others’ tasks also makes the communication in the group come in real time. Besides, not only available on desktop, Kanban also works on mobile. This literally turns the group work into something that can be done anytime and anywhere!

I don't know how you guys have reacted to the me too and time's up movements, but mine has been to cut all those men out of my sphere of entertainment, I even cut out "witch hunt", "not all men" type dudes, and "only fondled their breasts on tv and apologized for it" men (aka Ben Affleck), because time is up for all of you! Soz, not point, but since last October, Ed Westwick has been caught up in this, and thus far 3 women have accused him of ra.pe and a fourth of sexual misconduct. Now, I know it's not Chuck's fault that his portrayer is a ra.pist (allegedly), but there is still an issue with including his face, etc in aesthetics and gossip girl material because his face is that of a ra.pist's (allegedly). Tbh, I wanna leave him (Ed Westwick) out of material and only discuss Chuck and avoid showing his face or use a dreamcast instead, but like, I dunno what you guys wanna do. Chuck is a great character, although, early on, he was quite rap.ey, the character, and it does not help that his portrayer has since been revealed to be a ra.pist. Allegedly.
- also, going back up to the redundancy issues, I love both of your aesthetic collections and playlists, so for those, I was thinking for playlist, we should make one big playlist on spotify that's collaborative, so that everyone can add their music and it'll kind of be a huge explosion of musical tastes. But also, maybe have a collection that has a link on the group info for individual playlists for characters, and the group made by us and/or others. For aesthetic collections, basically the same idea with one big collaborative collection, and then that collection will have links to other collections (yes, I'm a little ocd).
- also, also, this is completely unrelated, but I was watching trevor noah's show and he made a joke about how much trump's male employees snitch and gossip like sht, but the woman haven't revealed squat. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpmlVWFTW8A) It's really funny, and honestly, stupid people fcking up in trump's circle very publically is basically what's keeping me alive. It's just hilarious how stupid some of these people are. ___________________________ Another Update (I'll leave those up until @maybones weighs in on them)
I was working on a draft of the group description to show you guys, and I was using a template of one of my old groups and rewriting stuff and changing it to suit our purposes and I realized how many freaking rules I have (I'm so picky), anyway, some of this stuff obvs won't be applicable (like, there's one about characters dying and I don't think we were planning on going that dark. although, serena was an accessory and chuck kind of killed his dad, so meh, maybe?) anyway, I wanted your opinions on what rules to keep and/or change:
✠ RULES AND GUIDELINES {GENERAL} ✠
I. Please be kind to each other. Your characters can be total jerks, but let us, the creators and/or writers be kind, polite, and respectful (aka, channel your inner Canadian guys). There will be absolutely ZERO tolerance of discrimination. You will be immediately removed from the group, and your actions will be documented and reported. PM me immediately if someone harasses you or you notice harassment between members. ⠀⠀Ia. If you want to be anonymous, for any reason, you can send in your complaints here {https://goo.gl/kbTXeU}, it's a google form, and it doesn't ask you verify your email, and the username option, is just an option, it's not required. If I need to make further contact/information from you regarding your concern, I'll make a group announcement vaguely describing your issue, and you can send in further information anonymously again. I'll be checking the form at least once a week.
⠀II. I'm not giving this any specific rating, however, I will say, you're free to include whatever "adult" content you want, whether it be swears, gore, or the dirty stuff (I'm totally a mature, grown up adult guys). However, do be careful of polyvore's stupid censors, use workarounds like writing your story in google docs, or accents for swear words.
⠀III. This is a non-elimination group,  but characters can die. It may be used for inactive members, or if you wanna kill 'em off or maybe revive as a ghost or something else. Permission will always be asked of the creator first (with the exception of characters belonging to inactive members, whose characters may be killed off as penalty).
⠀IV. If you miss 3 consecutive contests (without informing me), you'll receive an "x", "|" will be used to break up non-consecutively missed contests, anyway, if you miss 3 in a row, that will open your character to be killed by either myself or other group members. You will be notified, but your permission will not be asked. If you wish to rejoin at a later date, and you character has not been killed off, simply pm me and continue with whatever contest is in progress. If your character has been killed off, you can re-audition with a new one, and I will transfer your points to your new character.
⠀V. Always pm me, your vodka aunt mod, if you feel you'll be unable to enter a contest, your reason doesn't matter. Just let me know you can't get your entry in, that way you won't receive an "X".
⠀VI. Plotting will be left open throughout the group, however, please establish a few of these before contests begin, and always ask permission when using someone else's character(s) and be sure to tag them in your sets. Please, PLEASE work with others, I hate when people just do their own thing in oc battle groups, this is a collaborative story, everyone's stories and ideas matter. I will call you out if I notice something that contradicts the connected story, and I will always, ALWAYS incorporate the stories of group members into the overall narrative. ⠀⠀VIa. Narrative precedence will always be given to the person who completely finishes the description of their set first.
⠀VII. There is not a list of roles to pick from, you can create whatever roles you want, however, I may ask you to change it if I feel your character may become "villager number 6" and not fit in with the action. Rules, regulations, and suggestions for roles can be found here: [placeholder].
⠀VIII. Always be sure to tag the member's when you use their characters and give credit where credit is due.
⠀IX. Plagiarism will not be tolerated and you will be removed and reported. If you're inspired by someone else's work, credit them, otherwise you're stealing.
⠀X. Sets unrelated to the group will be removed.
⠀XI. You will NOT be required to write out a full story. Story portions can be answered in paragraphs, but full stories are always welcome and appreciated.
⠀XII. Do not use templates for contest entries unless otherwise stated.
⠀XIII. Always feel free to contact me with any and all questions, and/or suggestions. You can also send them through the anonymous complaints form, found here: https://goo.gl/kbTXeU

✠ RULES AND REGULATIONS {FACECLAIMS} ✠
I'm quite picky about these, but I'm not gonna be pedantic about it this time. You do you. Having said that, there are still some rules and regulations, as well as a challenge.
⠀I. All faceclaims must be above the age of majority (that's 18+ nearly universally on the planet), there is an exception for child characters but all main OCs must be at least 18.
⠀II. All faceclaims MUST be professionals. They can be actors, models, even singers. However, they must be singers of some note signed onto a label company, like Taylor Swift, or my beloved Dima Bilan (who's also an actor. a good one. yes, I'm bragging). Your faceclaim CANNOT be someone insta-famous, youtubers, or tumblr tweens.
⠀III. Whilst I'm not going to reject any faceclaim on the pedantic basis of "I don't like them", there are some faceclaims that I will and for one reason, and one reason only. Sexual misconduct of any and all kinds. Hollywood and the media are finally cleaning house, and I don't want those dicks in my nerd sht either. To be clear, I don't care whether the misconduct was simply groping a woman's breasts on camera and apologizing about 10 years later, I am going to reject everyone who's been accused. Examples include; Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck, Ed Westwick, Jeffrey Tambor, Danny Masterson, Andy Dick, Dustin Hoffman, and fcking Mel Gibson. (Side note, these are just actors, for a wider list of men who have fallen since the Harvey Weinstein story broke in October 2017, I recommend you check out this article {https://goo.gl/Uq65Qv} by the NY Times) ⠀⠀IIIa. If you notice I have accepted someone who has been accused of sexual misconduct/harassment/assault please inform me right away, and ideally with a link to a news source from where you learned about (I will google it myself, but the ready-to-go link would be much appreciated.) ⠀⠀IIIb. Also, Alec Baldwin is on my list of rejected faceclaims. He's not been accused of anything, yet, but I'm not liking his defensive attitude of alleged rapists. Fúck off. Matt Damon also falls under subsection B, for a slightly different reason, but fúck him too. In this watershed moment, I have no time for defensive d i c k s and "not all men" a s s h o l e s.
⠀IV. The Challenge: a lot of us have certain fave fc's we use over and over again (I'm certainly guilty of that), so my challenge is for you to use a faceclaim you have never used before as your primary oc. This is gonna be based on the honour system, some of you guys I may know well, so I'll know if you're using your fave again, but others I may not, and I can't aggressively stalk everyone, so I won't call out anyone for not doing it. It's just a fun little challenge, worth 10 bonus points, if you opt to do it. But again, it's based on the honour system, I'm not gonna stalk anyone, but if I know you and you lie to me on the audition form. First, I'll be hurt, and second, I'll say sorry and tell you you're not getting those bonus points.
(I know, two sets of rules makes me such a di.ck, it's why I need your help guys!)

Changing Strings
This is a little tutorial on how, when, and why to go about changing your bass (or guitar) strings. Granted, I am no specialist, so these are things I have picked up on my own through various readings, but it should do as a summary. You can always research more into a topic if you’d like to learn more about it.
Your initial question might be why bother with changing strings anyway? A guy at the music store I bought my strings from told me he knows guitarists and bassists who never change their strings . . . they simply adjust the treble on their amps instead. That workaround is a hint to one of the reasons why: old, stretched out, dirty strings lose their tone, in particular the clarity and brightness.
Replacing your strings helps ensure the sound that is delivered to your amp is the best it can be and helps you get in some bonding and understanding of your instrument through general care, plus it gives you a chance to try out even more string types or gauges - there are many to choose from (once you start looking at them it does become a bit addictive, full disclosure).
My current preference (psst D’Addario want to sponsor me? hah):
Tumblr media
So how do you know when it might be time to switch out your strings? It’s partly up to you, because depending on how much and how often you play, you might need a more or less frequent schedule. Generally, if you start to lose clarity of sound from your strings and your playing starts to sound muddy, that’s a pretty good sign that your strings might need some refreshment. Visual signs to look for could include dullness of color, compared to shiny new strings, and little dark marks or the appearance of grunge across the strings.
Here’s a closeup on the old strings I removed from my bass. You can see they’re a bit grotty.
Tumblr media
When you play, you should always wash your hands beforehand (hah), so your instrument stays as clean as possible, which will help reduce wear from exposure to unwanted materials (like grease on your fingers from food you recently ate, etc etc). This routine, along with wiping the strings down after you’re done playing, will help give your strings some extended life too, but in time the natural oils from your hands will end up on them anyway.
Here I have overlaid the old strings over the new ones on my bass. You can see a definite difference in color, the old ones being duller.
Tumblr media
Generally, the dead sound and darker/semi-dirtied appearance will clue you in that it’s time. I noticed this on my own strings after about six months, so you can use that as a benchmark, but depending on your playing habits and which strings you have, you might need to change sooner or later.
Now that you know the why and when, let’s get to the how. The first consideration is not the process, however, but which strings you are going to use. Not only are there many many brands out there (like D’Addario, Ernie Ball, and more), but there are also many different string materials too. These include:
Nickel - for a warmer, more vintage tone
Nickel-plated steel - used for many styles, very versatile, these are most likely what is on your bass
Stainless steel - very bright, strong tone
Nylon - more likely to be used in guitars versus basses
Chrome - for an even richer tone, warmer than nickel
And you may see even more than that too. Strings also come in different winding styles - this refers to the way the outermost layer is wound around the core. Roundwound (traditional), halfwound (for less finger noise), flatwound (for no finger noise), and tapewound (for a more upright bass sound) are some of the options.
If you know which strings you currently have, you might like to stick with the same ones, and if you’re not sure, nickel-plated steel roundwounds are a pretty solid choice. If you’re feeling more experimental, feel free to choose something different - you might like the new sound you discover.
And if that weren’t enough to think about, you also have a choice to make regarding gauge too. Gauge refers to the thickness of the strings, and gauges are often referred to based on the size of the lowest string. In this case, 100 is the size of the E string of a regular light gauge set, which is a common sizing, so such a set is commonly referred to as 100s for short.
There are heavier sets available, and lighter ones too. It really depends on which feel you prefer under your fingers. I like the feel of slightly thicker strings, so I’ve gone with medium gauge, which is 105s. What you choose is up to you.
Observe the size of the medium gauge and round, bumpy appearance here for the roundwounds:
Tumblr media
As you can see, there are plenty of options when it comes to selecting your strings, from brand to material to winding to gauge to options for coating (which can add color to or act as protection for the strings from wear), and it can be a bit overwhelming. You may want to look into the difference in tone between strings and do some reading, or you might wish to follow your instincts and simply go with your gut for your choice.
One more thing to note: bass strings come in short scale, for short scale basses (which you might have if you have a smaller reach), and in long scale, for regular size basses. Make sure you choose the right one, because short scale strings will not fit a full scale bass.
Once you have chosen and purchased your strings, it’s time to get to the process of switching them in.
Tumblr media
First, be sure to loosen all of the strings on your bass (or guitar, but I’m a bassist so I’m going to use the bass term usually) evenly. Take off all of the tension. Turn the tuning keys until the strings are slack.
Now you need to remove the strings - you can either cut them near the stockhead using a wire cutter, then unwind the remainder from the posts by turning the tuning keys, or you can completely unwind them using the tuning keys to keep them intact (my preference). Once detached, pull them out through the bottom of the bridge, then put them aside.
Bass, de-stringed:
Tumblr media
Once you’ve removed all the strings, you might like to take a chance to do some cleanup of your fretboard, now that it is exposed. If you have some fretboard oil, this would be a good time to apply it (just make sure there’s no lemon oil in it, especially if you have a maple fretboard, as the lemon will dehydrate the wood and make it more susceptible to cracking). This is a time you can polish your frets too.
Once you’re done cleaning, grab your new strings. Starting with the E string, the thickest one, uncoil it if it is wrapped up, then put it through the hole in the bridge, and over the appropriate saddle, so it rests in the groove. Pull it through until the ball end rests against the bottom of the bridge. These photos demonstrate using my A string, which I wanted to rewind anyway.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now take the far end and draw it towards the lowest pole in your stockhead. You will notice a hole in the middle of the pole - stick the end of the string into this, as far down as it will go. Then, flatten the string into the slot sideways, to get it prepared for being wound down along the post.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Guiding the string down the post, start to wind it, using the tuning key. You will have to do a lot of turning, so keep at it. As you turn, gradually guide the string downward along the post, so it wraps evenly and is prevented from bunching together. You may hear some noises as the string bends.
Tumblr media
Eventually, you’ll feel the string start to take some tension (no need to worry about tuning right away, that can be left until you have all the strings on). You can stop winding at this point, and move on to the next string.
Tumblr media
Repeat the process for each string. If you have a string guide (as I do), an extra round piece of metal that is situated beneath and roughly between the third and fourth posts, make sure to thread the third (D) and fourth (G) strings beneath it, and put each string in the appropriate groove on the backside of the guide. Not all basses have this, but if yours does, it helps keep your strings in line.
With all of the strings now successfully attached, you can tune your instrument up. You may notice over the next couple of days that you will have to consistently readjust your tuning each time you play, because the strings are still getting used to being stretched out. After about a week or so though, this will likely become less of a problem.
Ready to go!
Tumblr media
When you change strings, especially if you change gauges, there is always a chance your action - the distance the strings are from the frets - might change. If your action is too low, you can experience a lot of undesired fret buzz, because the strings are too close to the frets and inadvertently touch them. Action that is too high, conversely, can cause extra tension in the strings, which means you need to apply a lot more pressure while you play.
Tumblr media
If you find you need an adjustment, you can either adjust the saddles on the bridge, or you can adjust the tension of your truss rod (the piece of metal that controls the curve of the neck and attaches to the instrument’s body). That’s a whole other issue though, and this piece is long enough already, so I’ll save that for another time. I hope you enjoyed reading! 🎸

Multi-Fandom Slash Fic Recs: Long reads for your quarantine needs
Was gonna add my own 2 cents for each rec, but it got long and I'll never post if I have to think about it anymore - may edit to add more commentary. Suffice it to say, these are all great long reads, not much angst, some smutty some not, highly improbable levels of things-working-out because it's fanfic and that's what it's for. Feel free to troll through my AO3 Bookmarks as well.
The One Where They're Stars on HGTV Series
earlgreytea68
Inception: Arthur/Eames
AU, 466,359 words 9 works Complete
Summary:
"Have you ever seen "Love It or List It"? In which Arthur is the real estate agent and Eames is the designer.
Eames is certain that they will excel at being celebrity judges.
Arthur is not so sure.
But then, that's usually how their relationship goes."
My 2 cents: Just what it says on the tin: Arthur and Eames are HGTV stars of a show which pits straightlaced realtor Arthur against flamboyant designer Eames, but the new show they're embarking on will give them a chance to work together. Arthur has his reservations - not least among them the surprise arrival of Eames' superficially charming ex. Eames, of course, has all the confidence in the world. Featuring fun design challenges, mildly insecure Athur, fluffy confidant Ariadne, reality show 'backstage' melodrama, Arthur becomes a meme, Eames fantastical decorating schemes, a Matt Bomer lookalike complete with fedora (trilby), and acres of gauzy romantic fluff.
We Begin Again Series
katherynefromphilly
Merlin: Merlin/Arthur
316,197 words 4 works
Summary:
"For many long years Merlin waited.
For the other part of his soul, for the other half of his life. He was born to serve Arthur. So that meant he was also born to wait. Even if it took a thousand years. Even if the wait seemed never to end.
Until one day, suddenly, it did.
When Arthur stumbles from the Lake of Avalon 1,500 years after his death, he finds a world unlike the one he knew. Faced with the loss of everyone he loved, and the threat of impending prophecy, Arthur must learn what it means to be not just a king, but the Once and Future King. Merlin does all he can to guide him, even as he struggles to hide his love for his king, and his fear of losing him again.
Story includes sass, banter, horseplay, & True Love."
Infinite Coffee and Protection Detail Series
owlet
MCU: Steve/Bucky
264,438 words 8 works
Summary:
"The mission resets abruptly, from objective: kill to objective: protect
Integration into adult human social dynamics requires attention and effort. Especially with this bunch of damaged bozos.
(A series of interconnected one-shots.)"
2 cents: Post-Winter Soldier Bucky works his own way through. Recovery fic from Bucky's POV, not shippy in the beginning (unless you consider MCU-canon-level co-dependency shippy I guess) and with added 'Avengers living in the Tower' flavor
The Sonnet Series
nekosmuse, afrocurl
X-Men: Charles/Erik
AU, 196,721 words 3 works
Summary:
"Erik Lehnsherr is a visiting professor at Columbia University, as well as an acclaimed and award winning poet. Charles Xavier is a lead researcher with the Genetics Department who is well on his way to tenure. But what happens when Charles has to cancel a class because half his students abandon him in favour of a mysterious new English Lit professor? Naturally he ends up sitting in in the class, where Professor Lehnsherr mistakes him for a student. It's really too bad Erik has such a strict policy against dating students. It's also too bad Erik doesn't seem to know how to use Google."
Hollywood 'verse Series

The debut feature from longtime script doctor Leonard McCoy, former show runner on sitcom "Three to Tango," centers on a college student coping with his father's terminal cancer. Chekov plays the son, Gaila the nurse. The father is yet to be cast.
Also attached are director James T. Kirk and producer Spock, the team behind the blockbuster spy-girl franchise starring Carol Marcus, the latest of which, "A Taste of Armageddon," opened last month.
(A modern-day Hollywood AU.)"
A Curious Carriage of Crystal and Cold
Etharei
X-Men: Charles/Erik
AU, 114,261 words
Summary:
"Charles, a miner from a poor village in the countryside, saves the life of Erik Lehnsherr, scion of a successful business family and the richest man on the planet Eisen. Charles is a telepath and somewhat anxious about it, while Erik abstains from relationships because the lights flicker and doors open and electronics vibrate when he gets too excited.
Also featuring a long-suffering sister, a foul-mouthed bodyguard, and a best friend with a heart that is definitely not gold.
In which there are princes, spaceships, long journeys, and old secrets uncovered. (An AU sci-fi fairytale)"
Shadowlord and Pirate King Series
Footloose, mushroomtale
Merlin: Merlin/Arthur
AU, 216,060 words 3 works
Summary:
"A fast ship, a good crew, a treasure, a Clan to lead -- that's all Arthur Pendragon has ever wanted. He sits on the Council, he supports his father's kingship, and he keeps an eye on the Imperial Conglomerate when they come too close to Pirate space.
One day the Conglomerate infiltrates the Clans and poisons the King. Arthur must search for a cure to keep his father alive and the Clans from civil war.
An escape route, a sharp knife, a target, the shadows at his command -- that's all Merlin has ever needed. He fulfills his assignments, he uses the Sterling to sustain his once-royal House in their exile, and wages a private war against the Imperial Conglomerate.
When he learns of an elaborate plot to assassinate him, Merlin does the opposite of what's expected. He flees onto a Pirate ship.
There's a saying among the Pirates: that one's fate is written in the stars. Destiny will always set to rights what has been made wrong.
Arthur and Merlin know that they were meant for the other from the moment they meet. They can feel it from across the galaxies separating them. Nothing can stop them from being together or from fulfilling an ancient prophecy."
Children, Wake Up Series
hollycomb
Star Wars sequels: Kylo Ren/Armitage Hux
non-canon after Force Awakens, 608,083 words 3 works
Warning for torture and past sexual assault (offscreen)
Summary:
"Hux follows orders and loses his way.
Barricaded in the darkness of Snoke's citadel as part of his final training, Kylo Ren senses a disturbance in the Force: General Hux in great pain, captured and tortured by a faction of radical traitors within the First Order. Ren seeks Snoke's counsel and finds him gone. He knows this is a test, and that he must resist the urge to assist the General. And yet."
2 cents: I don't even know. I started just to look at it and then somehow I couldn't stop. Two characters I find wholly irredeemable given back story enough to make me suspend disbelief just enough to enjoy the fic - now that's talent. Features background Finn/Rey and Luke/Wedge if you care about that, and generally has everyone written in a positive light except Snoke, including a surprising handful of of First Order refugees. It's weirdly not at all a dark fic, despite the premise and extreme levels of Force Ex Machina.
snipers solve 99% of all problems
silentwalrus
Fullmetal Alchemist: post-canon gen
HP crossover, 170,861 words, 59 chapters so far, WIP
Summary:
"Ed had thought, after the whole Promised Day, homunculus, entire country harvested for alchemical batteries thing, the batshit quotient of his life would have settled down some. He really ought to have topped out the meter with that one. But no. The bullshit is just getting started.
“Are you fucking kidding me,” Ed demands. “The wizards?”"
2 cents: Neither of these are my fandom, but I have read all the HP books, so I could get the gist. While jonesing for an update, I ended up bingeing FMA: Brotherhood and I have no regrets. Ed working alchemy-as-science and trying to translate wizardry into scientific alchemical workarounds is all I never knew I wanted. Team Amestris takes JKR's creation to school, with all the swearing you'd expect sprinkled throughout for ambiénce.
